Abbas calls for 'international protection regime' for Palestinians

Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas called Wednesday for the creation of a "special regime" for the protection of his people, as a wave of deadly Israeli-Palestinian violence showed no sign of abating.

Abbas called on the United Nations, "more urgently than any time before, to set up a special regime for international protection for the Palestinian people, immediately and urgently."

Accusing Israel of carrying out "extrajudicial killings", he called for the United Nations, and especially the Security Council, as well as member states to shoulder their responsibility.

"We need protection, and we look to you," he told a special meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Council on the escalating crisis.

Boston-area conference aims to change the US political equation on Israel and Palestine

But it was international pressure, culminating in the US, which delivered the final blow to the Apartheid regime. The UN had begun to take up the issue of South African Apartheid as early as the 1950s, but economic sanctions were resisted by the major Western powers Britain, France and the US. As a consequence, although Apartheid was condemned regularly in the General Assembly during the 1960s, it was only in 1977 that the Security Council adopted a mandatory arms embargo. However, the South African regime found ways to evade the measure and obtain military hardware, most notably from Israel.

Jerusalem women call for protection against Israeli violence

Palestinian women in Jerusalem are under constant attack by both Israeli state forces and at the hands of vigilantes, a coalition of groups stated Saturday.

Speaking as “women, mothers, sisters, daughters and youth,” the Jerusalemite Women’s Coalition is calling “for the protection of our bodily safety and security when in our homes, walking in our neighborhood, reaching schools, clinics, work places and worship venues.”

More than 60 Palestinians have been killed so far this month. While the majority are young men, and at least 15 of those slain were under 18 years old, women have also been targeted by Israeli occupation forces.

New Zealand is preparing a UN Security Council resolution calling on Israel to freeze construction and home demolitions in the West Bank, as well as urging the Palestinians to desist from taking steps against Israel at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, as part of a series of confidence-building steps ahead of a hoped-for resumption of peace talks.

Surprise: Ashkenazi Jews Are Genetically European

The origin of the Ashkenazi Jews, who come most recently from Europe, has largely been shrouded in mystery. But a new study suggests that at least their maternal lineage may derive largely from Europe.

Though the finding may seem intuitive, it contradicts the notion that European Jews mostly descend from people who left Israel and the Middle East around 2,000 years ago. Instead, a substantial proportion of the population originates from local Europeans who converted to Judaism, said study co-author Martin Richards, an archaeogeneticist at the University of Huddersfield in England.

MORE PEOPLE SAY MASS SHOOTINGS REFLECT PROBLEMS IDENTIFYING AND TREATING PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS RATHER THAN INADEQUATE GUN CONTROL LAWS

As Democrats look to make gun violence a core issue in the 2016 presidential campaign, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds wide agreement that gun violence is a problem but bitter and stark division on whether new gun laws should trump the constitutional right to gun ownership. The survey finds that 46 percent say new laws to reduce gun violence should be a bigger priority, while 47 percent say it's more important to protect the right to own firearms. This marks a shift away from gun laws since April 2013, when Democrats' push for increased background checks fell short in the aftermath of the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.; back then, a 52 percent majority said new laws should be a priority.

Schoolgirl executed by Israeli soldiers

Israeli occupation forces have killed six Palestinians since Saturday, including three in Hebron on Monday.

One was a 17-year-old schoolgirl.

The latest deaths brings the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip this month to 60.

At least 15 have been under 18 years old. Nine Israelis have died in the same period.

Israel carried out two air strikes on sites belonging to resistance groups in Gaza late Monday night. One person was injured by flying glass in a nearby home.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is proposing to revoke the Jerusalem residency of tens of thousands of Palestinians in the occupied city.

BEX Alert!!! - "20,000 Israelis sue Facebook over Palestinian calls to kill Jews"

A huge class-action lawsuit has been brought against Facebook in Israel, with the plaintiffs alleging the social medium failed to monitor and delete posts on Palestinian accounts inciting hatred towards Jews. The reaction from Facebook is pending.

The suit alleges that Facebook has a “legal and moral obligation” to sanitize posts instigating Palestinians to stage attacks Israelis, because the social network is “far from a neutral or passive social media platform and cannot claim it is a mere bulletin board for other parties’ postings.”

“Facebook’s refusal to remove the flood of extremist videos, statements and cartoons being posted by Palestinians is encouraging imminent violence and fanning the flames of the terrorist attacks that have overwhelmed Israel in the past month,” it says, coming to the conclusion that “Facebook’s algorithms and platform connects inciters to terrorists who are further encouraged to perpetrate stabbings and other violence attacks against Israelis.”

Fact Check: MSNBC’s Palestinian loss of land map

Last week, MSNBC aired a map (above) showing the loss of Palestinian land to Zionist settlers and then to Israel from 1946 to the present. Following criticism from Israelis and their supporters, MSNBC apologized and stated that the map was incorrect. But was it? The following is a fact check of MSNBC’s map and the criticisms of it.

snip

Were there real factual errors in the map?

Yes. There were two factual errors in the map:

?It showed the Syrian Golan Heights, which have been under Israeli military occupation since the 1967 War, as part of Israel, although the international community, including the United States, does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the area.

The map also shows “Israel” existing in 1946. While British Mandatory Palestine did exist in 1946, there was no political entity called “Israel” until 1948.

NETANYAHU SAYS THIS, BUT MEANS THAT …

The Israeli policy to kill first and ask questions later was effectively, though not formally, adopted in an effort to crush Palestinian protests over reasserted attempts by government backed Messianic Jewish fanatics to arrogate a foothold at the Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest places.

Israeli circles though obviously mistakenly thought that political turmoil in much of the Arab world presented a golden opportunity for Israel to drastically alter the status quo at the Mosque and its spacious courts, including allowing Jews to hold Talmudic rituals, which effectively means partitioning the exclusively Islamic shrine.

Indeed, in addition to killing and maiming hundreds of Palestinians, Israel took draconian measures to crush what seemed to be a renewed Palestinian intifada.

America is changing its mind on Israel: How Netanyahu is alienating his most essential ally

The current violence in Israel-Palestine—immediately following the debate about the Iran arms deal, which revealed growing fissures in American support of Israel–has brought the conflict into the foreground of U.S. political discourse. The absence of any serious mention of Israel-Palestine during the first Democratic presidential debate thus speaks volumes. It tells us that even as polls show more and more of the Democratic base shifting its support away from Israel, the leading candidates for the Democratic nomination are reluctant to talk about Israel. It will be interesting to see if they shift their stances at all in the next few months, given the stakes that are emerging. Recent polls have shown that Latinos, a critical constituency, are lending their sympathy to the Palestinians. They join the young, progressives, Blacks, and Asian Americans. This is not only the perception of supporters of Palestinian rights, this point of view is shared by advocates of Israel as well.

Deir Yassin massacre

There is, however, no doubt that many sexual atrocities were committed by the attacking Jews. Many young schoolgirls were raped and later slaughtered. Old women were also molested. I also saw one old woman who gave her age as one hundred and four who had been severely beaten about the head with rifle butts. “We promise you that soon, not one Jew will be left [alive] in Jerusalem or across Israel and we will continue until we eradicate this disease [Judaism?] from the world,” he goes on.

Ironically, Dana Husseini thinks it could swing the pendulum in favor of the Palestinians at a time when tensions in Jerusalem are higher than they've been in a long time.

Israel’s March of Madness. Towards an Ultra-nationalist, Racist, Religious Society.

Israeli democracy is sliding downwards. Sliding slowly, comfortably, but unmistakably.

Sliding where? Everybody knows that: towards an ultra-nationalist, racist, religious society.

Who is leading the ride?

Why, the government, of course, that group of noisy nobodies which came to power at the last elections, led by Binyamin Netanyahu.

Not really. Take all these big-mouthed little demagogues, the ministers of this or that (I can’t quite remember who is supposed to be minister for what) and shut them up somewhere, and nothing will change. In 10 years from now, nobody will remember the name of any of them.

… there is only one group in the country that is strong enough, cohesive enough, determined enough to take over the state: the settlers.

54-year-old Palestinian dies from tear gas inhalation in Hebron

A 54-year-old Palestinian died on Wednesday from excessive tear gas inhalation during clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli forces in Hebron, medical sources said.

A doctor in Hebron's government hospital told Ma'an that the Palestinian, identified as Hashem al-Azzeh, had a previous history of cardiac disease.

Locals told Ma'an that he was a resident of the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron, and was at Bab al-Zawiya in central Hebron when he suffered excessive tear gas inhalation.

He was rushed to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

He was not, in fact, "rushed" to the hospital, as vehicles, including ambulances, are not allowed into the neighborhood where Hashem al-Azzeh lived. He was carried by hand down to where the ambulance could pick him up, which is where he was exposed to the tear gas.

Netanyahu absolved Hitler of the final solution by placing the blame for the Holocaust on the Palestinians

Why is Netanyahu consistently attempting to displace blame for the Jewish genocide in Europe from the Germans onto the Palestinians? Of course, Netanyahu throughout his career has been determined to shatter the Palestinian national struggle. To discredit it, and to justify his campaign, his violent campaign against it. But with what’s happening in Jerusalem Netanyahu’s fanaticism has risen to the surface.

Israel Calls a Man Its Soldiers Killed a "Terrorist": Until They Realized He Was an Israeli Jew

The Jerusalem Post today describes the killing of a man by two IDF soldiers after, the soldiers claim, he was acting erratically and tried to grab one of their guns. When he was fatally shot by the IDF, says the paper, he was “believed to be an Arab terrorist.” As it turns out, he was not an Arab Palestinian but rather an Israeli Jew. Upon learning this, the “terrorist” designation was officially and “immediately” rescinded:

Jewish Israeli shot dead by security guard after being mistaken for terrorist

A Jewish Israeli man was shot dead by security guards in Jerusalem after being mistaken for a terrorist. He had gotten into an argument with the guards and was subsequently killed when he reached to grab a gun from one of them.

The incident took place as the man was getting off a bus and the two security guards were trying to get on. A dispute ensued and the guards demanded to see his identification papers.

However, when the man tried to grab one of the guard’s guns, he was shot dead, as they believed he was a “terrorist,” police said, as cited by AFP.

Two similar events have also occurred recently involving Jewish Israelis injured or killed due to mistaken identity.

Israel's Netanyahu stirs trouble by linking late Muslim leader to Holocaust

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu provoked a Holocaust controversy on Wednesday, hours before a visit to Germany, by saying that the Muslim elder in Jerusalem during the 1940s convinced Adolf Hitler to exterminate the Jews.

In a speech to the Zionist Congress late on Tuesday, Netanyahu referred to a series of Muslim attacks on Jews in Palestine during the 1920s that he said were instigated by the then-Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini.

Husseini famously flew to visit Hitler in Berlin in 1941, and Netanyahu said that meeting was instrumental in the Nazi leader's decision to launch a campaign to annihilate the Jews.

Webmaster's Commentary:

But, but, but, but ... I thought there WAS no Palestine in the 1920s!!!!!!!! :)

Even for Netanyahu, this is pretty pathetic. This piece of Muslim-bashing propaganda, constantly recycled by Netanyahu, Pam Geller, etc. ad infinitum ad nauseum focuses on a picture taken of Adolph Hitler meeting with the grand mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin.

The implication is that this meeting "proves" Palestinians are all closet Nazis.

But, let's look at some other photos.

Hitler with Pope Pius 12th. Does this picture mean all Catholics are closet Nazis?

Hitler with King Edward and Wallis Simpson. Does this photograph mean all British subjects are closet Nazis?

Hitler with France's Henry Philippe Petain. Does this photograph mean all the French are closet Nazis?

Hitler with British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. Does this photograph mean all British subjects are closet Nazis?

Hitler with President Hoover. Does this photograph mean all Americans are closet Nazis?

The fact is that as a head of state, Hitler was required by diplomatic protocol to meet a lot of people and have his picture taken with them. It is just part of the job. And as WW2 proved, not everyone Hitler was photographed with agreed with him.

Let's try some more photos.

Does this photo make Richard Nixon a rock star, or Elvis a lying crook?

I wonder how Netanyahu feels about this photo of young German Jews wearing Nazi uniforms?

Hitler with executives from IBM. In this case, IBM did sell counting equipment to Nazi Germany, some of which was used in the slave labor camps, but Netanyahu doesn't seem interested in killing off IBM.

Israeli memes mock Netanyahu's Hitler revisionism

Bibi Butchers History

Bibi Netanyahu continues his (vain)glorious attempt to ride roughshod over Jewish history with his recent speech to the World Jewish Congress. By now, you’ve heard the Israeli leader’s false claim that it was Hajj Amin al-Hussein, not Hitler himself, who planted the idea of exterminating European Jewry. Bibi even manages to quote their entire conversation, which is quite a historical feat considering there is no historical record whatsoever of what they actually said.

Despite global disgust, Netanyahu doubles down on claim that Hitler got idea of Final Solution from a Palestinian

News sites around the world today are talking about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assertion in a speech yesterday that Hitler didn’t want to kill the Jews, just expel them, till he was convinced to exterminate them by the Palestinian leader, Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. The criticism is so universal, and angry, that the remarks look to be a landmark in Netanyahu’s cynicism; they draw back the curtain for the world on his refusal to sincerely address Palestinians aspirations for freedom today.

Yet, in the face of the criticism Netanyahu is doubling down on his contention that Palestinians incited the holocaust.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is an upside to all of this (aside from Netanyahu tossing what remains of his credibility into the Al Qaeda). With such a huge whopper on full view, it is now acceptable to openly speculate on just what else Israel has been lying to everyone about for the last half of a century! USS Liberty? Israel's nuclear arms? Nothing is off limits any longer. Nothing.

Outrage over Holocaust comments intensifies as Netanyahu meets Kerry

Binyamin Netanyahu has met with the US secretary of state, John Kerry, in Berlin amid a continuing storm of criticism over remarks by the Israeli prime minister claiming that the Palestinian grand mufti of Jerusalem had suggested the genocide of the Jews to Adolf Hitler.

Although Netanyahu tried to row back on his remarks that Hitler had been persuaded to initiate the Holocaust by the second world war Palestinian leader – made in a speech on Tuesday to the World Zionist Congress – historians and media commentators continued to weigh in accusing him of everything from fabrication to helping the cause of Holocaust deniers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yeah, when you get caught telling a real whopper like that, people start to wonder what else you have been less than truthful about!

BBC implies Palestinian dead are Israeli

A prime example this week was a segment on the BBC’s flagship radio news program Today. On 19 October it broadcast a four-minute chat between veteran presenter John Humphrys and one of its Middle East correspondents, Kevin Connolly.

With 42 Palestinians killed at that time, and thousands more injured in attacks by settlers and soldiers, Humphrys began his conversation with Connolly like this: “Yet another attack on Israelis last night. This time an Arab man with a gun and a knife killed a soldier and wounded 10 people. Our Middle East correspondent is Kevin Connolly. The number is mounting, isn’t it Kevin? The number is about 50 now, isn’t it?”

Not only does Humphrys’ introduction make it sound as though only Israelis are being attacked, he quite extraordinarily implies that the 50 who had been killed since the beginning of the month were all Israelis.
