Former FBI Director James Comey ended a legal battle with House Republicans on Sunday, announcing that he will testify behind closed doors on Capitol Hill this week after receiving assurances that a transcript of his interview will be released to the public.

Comey’s announcement brings to an end a short-lived standoff over the former FBI chief’s congressional testimony. Republicans on the House Judiciary and House Oversight and Government Reform Committees subpoenaed Comey on Nov. 21 to appear for a closed-door deposition on Dec. 3 to face questions about his handling of the Clinton email and Trump-Russia collusion investigations.

Gideon Levy Tells It Like It Is: “In U.S. Media, Israel Is Untouchable”

Gideon Levy, in Israel’s Ha’aretz newspaper, calls out American media’s cowardice. He highlights the double standard in which Palestinians can only be villainized, but Israel can only be defended, and the misuse of the term “anti-Semitism.”

How is it that an Israeli newspaper can publish this, but in the US, CNN is required to fire Marc Lamont Hill?

Meryl Streep: Trump’s ‘Children Are in Jeopardy,’ and ‘We Should Be Afraid’

Speaking at An Evening with Stephen Colbert at Newark’s New Jersey Performing Arts Center Saturday, Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep insisted that she is “scared” in Donald Trump’s America — mostly because she thinks Trump is dangerous.

During the Saturday evening event, Streep said she fears Trump because, like any parent, he will do “anything” to protect his children, Variety reported.

“I’m scared by (Trump),” Streep told Colbert. “By his possibility. I empathize with him. I can’t imagine what his 3 a.m. is like. There is a gathering storm. Everybody feels it. He feels it. His children are in jeopardy, and I feel that. I think, what if my children were jeopardy? I would do anything. Anything! To get them out of trouble. So we should be afraid.”

Deutsche Bank May Cause The Next Global Crisis

“Deutsche Bank (DB) poses as what is called a ‘National Champion’ bank and the largest bank by far in Germany, but it’s actually the largest criminal enterprise in Germany. This is quite a statement because VW is such a massive fraud…

It is insane that we allow Deutsche Bank to go from fraud to fraud to fraud…

They cheat on everything else you can possibly imagine and, typically, they are getting caught, which is also not a very good sign in terms of their competence even as thieves. Even in the United States, there has been reluctance to crack down on Deutsche Bank…

James Comey Will Obey Republican Subpoena and Testify Behind Closed Doors

Former FBI Director James Comey has blinked, agreeing to testify in a closed-door session over a series of controversies, including his department’s handling of the Hillary Clinton private email server investigation and the subsequent Russian collusion probe.

Comey announced that he had received a subpoena to testify on Thanksgiving but indicated he would “resist a ‘closed door’ thing” due to concerns of selective leaking on the part of lawmakers.

“Let’s have a hearing and invite everyone to see,” he challenged.

Comey then followed that up by filing a lawsuit in federal court late last week, again demanding a public forum.

America’s Ongoing Holocaust Of The Poor

Almost a week ago I saw a story on Zerohedge about how the life expectancy rate has fallen in the US for the third year in a row. Of course I believe that the CDC numbers cited in the article are being understated because the government is afraid to publish how high the number of premature deaths really is...

Why you need the Revolution (by Maurizio Blondet)

"The word Revolution is not, for us French, a vague word. We know that the Revolution is a rupture, the Revolution is an absolute. There is no moderate revolution, there is no revolutionary dirigism as there is the dirigism of the economy. What we announce will be done against the whole current system, or it will not be done. If we thought that this system is capable of reforming itself, that it can break away from itself the course of the fatal evolution towards the Dictatorship - the Dictatorship of Money - we would certainly refuse to run the risk of an explosion capable of destroying precious things, which they will reconstruct after a long time, of perseverance, of disinterestedness and of love. But the system will not change the course of its evolution, for the good reason that it does not evolve anymore; it is organized only for the purpose of simply lasting another moment, of surviving.

Our deficits may finally be coming home to roost

There are no “free lunches” in fiscal policy. All government spending must be paid for by taxpayers, either today or in the future. The burden of deficit spending may show up as an inflation tax, if the Fed opts to monetize the debt. -- More likely, the burden will fall on future generations that inherit a smaller capital stock and are faced with paying higher tax rates.

Israeli Police Recommend Bribery Charges Against Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is involved in several separate corruption cases — Case 1000, Case 2000 and Case 4000.

Referring the case to the Prosecutor General, who is to decide on the charges, the police recommended to incriminate bribes, fraud and breach of trust to Netanyahu and his spouse.

Case 4000 investigators claim that they have found evidence that the PM and his wife promoted the interests of Bezeq, Israel's largest telecommunications company, in exchange for favourable coverage from media sources including the popular news website Walla.

Deep Quandaries of the Deep State

The potential for a stand-off exists that will confound any effort to untangle these things, and I can see how that might lead to an extraordinary crisis in which Mr. Trump has to declare some form of emergency or perhaps martial law to clean out this suppurating abscess of illegality and sedition. That can only be the last and worst resort, but what if the US judicial system just can’t manage to clean up the mess it has made?

Chicago’s New PlayStation Tax Shows How Greedy Politicians Can Be

By Brittany Hunter

“If it moves, tax it.” That’s government’s eternal motto, as Ronald Reagan quipped. To this, the city government of Chicago has added, “If it amuses, tax it.”

A few weeks ago, PlayStation 4 users in Chicago were shocked when they turned on their consoles and saw a message from Sony. The message informed users that as of November 14, 2018, they would be required to pay a 9 percent “amusement tax” for PlayStation subscriptions such as PlayStation Now, PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Music, and others...

What Clinton's Emailgate, 'Pay-to-Play' and Looming GE Crash Have in Common

Meanwhile, in February 2017 Jan R. Weinberg, an American peace activist and founder of ‘Show Up! America', shed light on ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's controversial collaboration with defence contractors including GE and Boeing.

Citing the National Centre for Public Policy Research's (NCPPR) investigation, the activist suggested that the former secretary of state had lobbied foreign governments on behalf of GE at a time when the company was making generous donations to the Clinton Foundation.

Referring to an alleged ‘pay-to-play' scheme, Weinberg stressed that GE had refused to disclose the email exchange between then Secretary of State Clinton and the company's leadership. These emails could shed light on the Clinton-GE relations and apparently help the US authorities restore some "deleted" emails, the activist argued.

The Many Ways Governments Create Monopolies

By Mike Holly

Politicians tend to favor authoritarianism over capitalism and monopoly over competition. They have directly created monopolies (and oligopolies) in all major industrial sectors by imposing policies favoring preferred corporations and preferred special interests.

In 2017, University economists Jan De Loecker and Jan Eeckhout found monopolies behind nearly every economic problem...

This Is How The “Everything Bubble” Will End

Keep in mind, I’m not in the habit of making “doomsday” predictions. Gun Control Fails New Jersey

If that is what gun-control looks like, then I don’t want any of it. The reason gun control fails is obvious. In the criminal justice system, only the first crime is expensive: all the other crimes are free. You don’t care if you use a stolen gun or a stolen car once you are going to commit murder. There is no deterrent, no incremental penalty that changes your behavior, once you’re the gang hitman. That is why gun control only disarms honest people..which is what the Dirty Jersey politicians wanted all along. -- Gun control works for Jersey politicians but fails for New Jersey. Honest people die because of it. -- Have you had enough?

Federal Employees Instructed Not to Engage in Trump ‘Resistance’ Activities During Work

A guide to employee conduct issued by the Office of Special Counsel informs federal workers that they should not engage in Trump ‘resistance’ activities while on the job.

The agency is tasked with enforcing the Hatch Act, which prohibits employees in the federal government from engaging in certain forms of political activity in their role as public servants.

This may be the first time a government entity directly references the ‘resistance,’ acknowledging employees within federal departments should not promote activities that can be seen as either support of, or opposition to, the President.

“We understand that the ‘resistance’ and ‘#resist’ originally gained prominence shortly after President Trump’s election in 2016 and generally related to efforts to oppose administration policies,” the guidelines state. “However, ‘resistance,’ ‘#resist’ and similar terms have become inextricably linked with the electoral success (or failure) of the president.”

James Comey takes House Republicans subpoena fight to federal court

Former FBI Director James Comey has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Washington fighting a subpoena from the House Judiciary Committee to testify in a closed-door session.

Comey was served a subpoena from Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., last week and said he would only testify if the hearing was public.

In the 17-page motion filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia late Thursday, a lawyer for Comey says the closed-door deposition “exceeds a proper legislative purpose, is issued in violation of House rules, and unduly prejudices and harasses the witness.”

The House Judiciary Committee, alongside the House Oversight Committee, has been conducting a joint investigation into the Justice Department and FBI’s actions ahead of the 2016 presidential election. This includes the probe into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
