Russia Says US Is Abusing UN to Mess With Iran

Russia has mocked American attempts to line up world support for the past week’s anti-government demonstrations in Iran, even sarcastically suggesting that the U.S. let the police department of Ferguson, Missouri teach Iranians how to really put down civil unrest — a reference it returned to during U.N. meetings Friday.

“By your logic, we should have initiated a Security Council meeting after the well-known events in Ferguson,” said Russian UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya, addressing the U.S. delegation.

US abusing UN Security Council to interfere in Iran's internal affairs

By calling a UN Security Council meeting with the demand to support anti-government protesters in Iran, the US is trying to bend the UNSC mandate, which does not deal with countries' internal affairs, Russia's UN envoy has said.

“We obviously regret the loss of lives as a result of the demonstrations that were not so peaceful. However, let Iran deal with its own problems, especially since this is precisely what’s taking place,” Russia's envoy to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said.

He slammed the US for diverting attention from important international issues the UN Security Council should be addressing.

"You are dispersing the energy of the Security Council, instead of focusing it on dealing with key crisis situations>>>"

Scott Adams Warns Donald Trump on Marijuana: 'I'm Gonna Turn on This President'

Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams warned President Donald Trump on Friday not to stop states from legalizing marijuana, warning: “I’m gonna turn on this president faster than anyone has ever turned on him.”

Adams said that Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s decision Thursday to rescind an Obama administration policy from 2013 that refrained from enforcing federal marijuana laws in states that had legalized the drug was not necessarily a bad sign for users of medical and recreational marijuana, since Sessions left discretion in the hands of each state’s U.S. Attorney. He did not order a crackdown by federal law enforcement on states that had legalized it.

However, Adams said that the decision to maintain marijuana as a Schedule I drug — the most dangerous category of drugs, with “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse” — was a worrisome sign.

Private prison industry sees boon under Trump administration

Sessions war on Cannabis is nothing more than a payoff for the $500,00 these 2 private prison gave to the Trump campaign.

When it comes to private prisons in the US, the two biggest names are CoreCivic — the new name for the Corrections Corporation of America — and GEO Group. Management & Training Corporation, another company with prison operations, is not publicly traded.

Both companies welcomed the Trump era with large donations.

In January, GEO Group’s Pablo Paez, the company’s vice president of corporate relations, told USA Today it donated $250,000 to Trump’s inaugural committee. OpenSecrets’ list of inauguration donors noted the GEO Group donation, as well as CoreCivic’s $250,000 contribution.

The month before the election, GEO Group hired two former Sessions aides as lobbyists: David Stewart and Ryan Robichaux, according to Politico.

Follow the Money: Former Sessions Aides are Lobbyists for Private Prisons Group

For activists working on reducing mass incarceration as a cornerstone of criminal justice reform, the future looks more than a little daunting.

On Friday, NPQ wrote about the new memo from Attorney General Jeff Sessions that brought private prisons back into play on the federal level. We pointed out that stocks for private prisons plummeted when then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates ordered they be phased out last year. We reminded you that the day after Trump’s election, those stocks soared. Now, we read in The Nation that in October, just before the election, two of Sessions’ former Senate aides, David Stewart and Ryan Robichaux, became lobbyists for GEO Group, one of the two largest private prison companies, and that the two were specifically engaged to lobby on government contracting.

Jeff Sessions just said something the private prison industry will love

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday made clear his intentions to reverse an Obama-era decision to phase out the federal use of private prisons.

In a memo addressed to the acting director of the Bureau of Prisons, obtained by MSNBC, Sessions said the DOJ’s announcement last August “changed long-standing policy and practice” and “impaired the bureau’s ability to meet the future needs of the federal correctional system.”

Jeff Sessions’ Marijuana Adviser Wants Doctors to Drug-Test Everyone

An adviser on marijuana policy to Attorney General Jeff Sessions wants to see doctors make drug testing a routine part of primary-care medicine and force some users into treatment against their will, he told The Daily Beast.

Dr. Robert DuPont was among a small group of drug-policy experts invited to a closed-door meeting with Sessions last month to discuss federal options for dealing with the rapid liberalization of state marijuana laws. California became the sixth state to allow the sale of marijuana for recreational use on Jan. 1.

Candidate Trump v. President Trump

Throughout his campaign for president, Donald Trump attacked Goldman Sachs during both the primary and general elections, claiming the bank had gained “total, total control” over political rivals like Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He “accused Goldman of colluding with [Clinton] to ruin the U.S. and enrich the elite.” [1]

Trump even ended his campaign with a television ad derided by many as anti-Semitic, which accused the CEO of Goldman Sachs of being part of the “global power structure” responsible for having “robbed our working class, stripped our country of its wealth and put that money into the pockets of a handful of large corporations and political entities.” [2]

Despite the attacks of Candidate Trump on Goldman Sachs, President Trump has seen fit to hire many current and former Goldman Sachs executives to positions that include three top administration posts, his nominee for chair of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), and his nominee for Treasury Secretary.

Trump’s nominee for Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, is a second-generation Goldman Sachs partner, while Jay Clayton, his nominee for SEC chair, is a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell, which has been Goldman Sachs’ “go-to law firm for more than a century.” Three of Trump’s highest-ranking advisors have prominent Goldman Sachs ties. Goldman partner Dina Powell is taking on a senior administration role in Trump’s White House; his chief strategist Steve Bannon “loved” working at the bank in the mid-1980s; and his newly named top economic advisor, Gary Cohn, is the current president and COO of the company.

Justice Department Launches New Clinton Foundation Probe

Wow, that’s a hell of a one-two punch for the ‘lock her up’ crowd.

First, Justice Department officials announced they would be taking “a fresh look” into Hillary Clinton’s illegal home private email server, which was definitely hacked by foreign agents.

Now, the Justice Department has said they’ll be taking another fresh look, this time at the Clinton Foundation and whether or not it was engaged in ‘pay to play’ schemes or other illegal activities during her time at the State Department.

Cliven Bundy-FBI debacle: Another example of why the feds need to be leashed

The Justice Department was caught in another high-profile travesty last month that continues to reverberate through the western states. On Dec. 20, federal judge Gloria Navarro declared a mistrial in the case against Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and others after prosecutors were caught withholding massive amounts of evidence undermining federal charges. This is the latest in a long series of federal law enforcement debacles that have spurred vast distrust of Washington.

Bundy, a 71-year old Nevadan rancher, and his sons and supporters were involved in an armed standoff with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) beginning in 2014 stemming from decades of unpaid cattle grazing fees and restrictions. The Bundys have long claimed the feds were on a vendetta against them, and 3,300 pages of documents the Justice Department wrongfully concealed from their lawyers provides smoking guns that buttress their case.

Doug Casey: The War on Some Drugs

Longtime readers know that although I personally abstain from drugs and generally eschew the company of abusive users, I think they should be 100% legal. Not just cannabis. All drugs.

The most important reason is moral and ethical. Your primary possession is your own body. If you don’t own it, and don’t have a right to do whatever you want with it, then you in fact have no rights at all. That’s the main reason why the drug war itself is criminal, and morally insane. The economic, medical, practical, and many other reasons to repeal prohibition are important, but strictly secondary.

A rare and honest police chief

Today the average police chief is a careerist and politician with ethics not much better than a gangster.

They burn millions of tax dollars every year protecting criminal cops who should be off the force, if not in jail.

If the DEA pays them bounties for “drug cases”, they turn over every car at a traffic stop to find a seed or stem to claim a “drug bust” to get the money regardless of the injustice of it.

Trump Must School Sessions on Medical Marijuana. NOW.

School him! Good luck. ThaT man is pathological when it comes to Cannabis!
FIRE HIM!

When it comes to lower-profile yet critically important issues such as medical marijuana, President Trump’s own Justice Department has been actively undermining candidate Trump’s numerous, clear promises to respect the right of states to pass laws that allow for it.

This is important.

Candidate Trump was always very clear in his many promises on medical marijuana. In October of 2015, Trump said at a rally in Nevada “the marijuana thing is such a big thing. I think medical should happen” and then on a Michigan radio station in March of 2016 he said “I think that it should be up to the states.” Trump even went on Fox News during the campaign and said of medical marijuana “I’m in favor of it a hundred percent.” Trump’s support for medical marijuana was unequivocal and considered to be a solemn promise to the voters who put him in office.

There seems to be certain health problems with it and that would be certainly bothersome. I do like it, you know, from a medical standpoint — it does do pretty good things. Trump's Slams Iran About Human Rights, but Spares Allies

In publicly condemning Iran for its reaction to the protests of the past week, President Trump has repeatedly made reference to human rights concerns. Human rights is not an issue often mentioned by the administration.

The issue of Iran jailing protesters, and using force against some of them, is a concern that’s hardly unique to Iran, President Trump himself has provoked larger protests in Palestine, and Israel’s crackdown has involved similar mass arrests and several killings.

Countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia similarly have what would be fairly described as calamitous human rights records, but neither has faced serious criticism from President Trump either.
