How Reuters Joined the US Government’s Offensive Against Iran

A 2013 Reuters report on Iran’s Setad has been cited in four books and was recently used to justify more sanctions on Iran by Mike Pompeo, but a look into the report’s sources and accuracy reveal questionable journalism and a clear agenda.

Mideast Fact Meets Fiction: Mike Pompeo Touts US Goodness and Threatens More of It
Pompeo’s speech seems to have been a not-so-subtle means of putting the entire Mideast region and world on notice that the U.S. is poised to initiate a new era of military intervention in the Middle East in order to “liberate” nations that continue to resist U.S. influence and regional hegemony.

During a speech given Thursday at Cairo’s American University, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered remarks that some analysts have likened to a mix of evangelism and historical revisionism regarding the U.S.’ historical role in Middle Eastern and Northern African affairs.

Pompeo began his speech by stating:

"It’s the truth, lower-case ‘t’, that I’m here to talk about today. It is a truth that isn’t often spoken in this part of the world, but because I’m a military man by training, I’ll be very blunt and direct today: America is a force for good in the Middle East.”

Prior to his speech, at an earlier press conference, Pompeo made a similarly jarring characterization of U.S. involvement in the Middle East, stating:

America has always been a liberating force, not an occupying power, in the Middle East. We’ve never dreamed of domination....”

Republican Montana Sen. Steve Daines introduced a bill on the Senate floor Thursday that would withhold the pay of members of Congress during future government shutdowns.

Daines’s introduction of the bill, sponsored by Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn, comes hours after Daines announced he sent a letter requesting the secretary of the U.S. Senate withhold his pay during the ongoing partial shutdown of the federal government.

THINGS DEMOCRATS HAVE FUNDED THAT COST MORE THAN THE BORDER WALL

After President Trump requested $5.7 billion to fund the border wall he campaigned on in 2016, Democrats have dug in, refusing to appropriate the funds that the administration says are needed to better manage the flow of immigration across the southern border.

Democrats are not traditionally known for their fiscal rectitude but are being particularly parsimonious over what ultimately amounts to a very small percentage of the federal budget. (In 2018, the feds spent $4.173 trillion overall, meaning the border wall would amount to just 1/10th of 1 percent of current annual federal spending.)

Indeed, these lawmakers have happily funded various projects over the years that cost far more than the border wall — many of which had very questionable value. Below are some examples of wasteful federal spending projects that individually cost more than the proposed border wall (some data courtesy of Citizens Against Government Waste):

Both Sides : The Unconstitutional National Emergency Farce

The argument for a wall is quite frankly bullshit. It was a selling point during the presidential campaign. It is now a battle to save face and elevate Trump’s personality. There are several more pressing issues—namely: illegal wars, a bankster manipulated monetary system, and a national debt that will flatten the country… and sooner before later.

Exasperated Democrats try to rein in Ocasio-Cortez

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already making enemies in the House Democratic Caucus — and some of its members are mounting an operation to bring the anti-establishment, democratic socialist with 2.2 million Twitter followers into the fold.

The effort, described by nearly 20 lawmakers and aides, is part carrot, part stick: Some lawmakers with ties to Ocasio-Cortez are hoping to coax her into using her star power to unite Democrats and turn her fire on Republicans. Others simultaneously warn Ocasio-Cortez is destined for a lonely, ineffectual career in Congress if she continues to treat her own party as the enemy.

Giuliani: Trump Legal Team Should be Able to 'Correct' Mueller's Final Report

Attorney Rudy Giuliani said President Donald Trump’s team of attorneys should be permitted to “correct” special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report before it is released to Congress and to the public.

His comments came Thursday during an interview with The Hill. He maintained Mueller’s investigators should first give the report to Trump’s lawyers for review.

“As a matter of fairness, they should show it to you — so we can correct it if they’re wrong,” said Giuliani, a member of Trump's personal legal team. “They’re not God, after all. They could be wrong.”

Memo to Trump: Declare an Emergency

The decisive issues on which Trump was elected were not the old Republican litany of tax cuts, conservative judges and increased defense spending. -- They were securing the borders, extricating America from foolish wars, eliminating trade deficits with NAFTA nations, the EU and China, making allies pay their fair share of the common defense, resurrecting our manufacturing base, and getting along with Russia. -- “America First!” is still a winning hand.

To summarize, the crash of the “everything bubble” has been deliberately initiated by central bankers. The worst is yet to come in 2019. Trump has made himself a sacrificial goat for the banking elites, and his administration will be taking the blame by the end of this year regardless of the facts surrounding the Federal Reserve’s program of controlled demolition. The year of 2018 was the beginning of the next phase of engineered crisis, 2019 will see the crash hit the mainstream consciousness not to mention the doorsteps and wallets of the general public.

Judicial Watch Seeks to Question Top Obama-Clinton Officials on Clinton Email Issue, Seeks Depositions of Susan Rice and Ben Rhodes on Benghazi Talking Points Documents

Judicial Watch announced today that it submitted a court-ordered discovery plan for the depositions of several top former government officials involved in the Clinton email scandal, including Obama administration senior officials Susan Rice, Ben Rhodes, Jacob Sullivan, and FBI official E.W. Priestap.

Judicial Watch “intends to update the Court regarding the depositions of Hillary Clinton and Cheryl Mills at the conclusion of the 16-week discovery period, unless the Court believes such notice is not necessary.”

The plan for discovery is the latest development in Judicial Watch’s July 2014 FOIA lawsuit filed after the U.S. Department of State failed to respond to a May 13, 2014 FOIA request (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:14-cv-01242)).

DNC Chair Won't Say 'What Changed' From 2006 or 2013 When Dems Voted for Border Security

On Wednesday morning, Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked DNC Chair Tom Perez "what changed" to convince Democrats who voted for increased border security in 2006 and 2013 to resolutely oppose President Donald Trump on a wall now. Perez did not answer the question, and attempted to combat the idea that the difference has more to do with personality than policy.

"You passed a lot of bills. [In] 2013, [Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)] voted for more border security. [Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)] voted for more border security. [Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)] voted for it. 2006, Hillary Clinton voted for it, Barack Obama voted for it; Schumer voted for it again going back 12 years," Hemmer noted.

"The Democrats believe in meaningful border security," Perez admitted. "I'm proud of the work I did under Barack Obama to make sure that we were securing our borders and countering violent extremism at home."

Americans Need a Congress that Represents Americans

US Senator Marco Rubio poses as a representative of Florida Republicans, but in truth he represents the interests of Israel. He is sponsor of legislation that punishes Americans who boycott Israel as their way of protesting Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. Muslim group sues to block 'No Boycott of Israel' measure

Maryland's ban on contracting with businesses that boycott Israel tramples on the First Amendment rights of a software engineer who advocates for Palestinians, a Muslim civil rights group claims in a lawsuit filed Wednesday.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations' federal lawsuit seeks to block the state from enforcing an executive order that Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan signed in October 2017.

The order requires contractors to certify in writing that they don't boycott Israel. The group's suit claims the order has an unconstitutional chilling effect on First Amendment-protected political advocacy supporting the Palestinians.

Marco Rubio and His Colleagues Need a Refresher on the First Amendment

First Amendment rights belong to the people, not the government. The government cannot impose its views on people or punish them for expressing views that the government disagrees with. This principle applies to both individuals and companies doing business with the state, and with full force to politically motivated boycotts. Two federal courts recently affirmed this, blocking laws in Arizona and Kansas that penalized individuals and companies for boycotting Israel. And this principle was famously tested in the McCarthy era, when many state laws required government employees to declare they were not members of the Communist Party or other “subversive groups” in order to keep their jobs.

Nancy Pelosi Accused of Excluding Progressives From Key Committees

That was how journalist David Dayen reacted on Wednesday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) announcement of appointees to three of the most powerful congressional committees, which progressives have targeted as essential for advancing ambitious policy priorities like Medicare for All and a Green New Deal.

Critics immediately pointed out that the bold progressives advocacy groups have been pressuring Pelosi to pick for seats on the Ways and Means Appropriations committees—such as Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ro Khanna (Calif.), and Pramila Jayapal (Wash.)—were entirely absent from the House Speaker’s list of assignments.

Senate Democrats Introduce Assault Weapons Ban of 2019

The odds that the bill will make it to the floor of the Senate are long. Republicans control the Senate, and just like Feinstein's previous bills, The Senate leadership will probably table the bill and not let it come to the floor for debate. -- Even if this bill makes it to the floor for a vote, it would need 60 votes to prevent a filibuster. Trump’s blood-curdling anti-migrant rhetoric does him no favors - but the most offensive thing about his wall is the rank hypocrisy of the Democrats who once voted for it!

As so often in modern American politics, it’s the malodorous stench of rank hypocrisy that most poisons the soul.

After last night’s presidential address by Donald Trump about illegal immigration, Democrats – led by Senator Chuck Schumer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi - were utterly united in their collective outrage at his stubborn insistence on building a wall along the southern US-Mexico border.
