The #Resistance found its new power couple!

Former President George W. Bush discovered this week that all he had to do to make the media finally like him was take a rhetorical swing at Donald Trump.

And it didn’t hurt that he teamed up with Barack Obama to do it. The result was a media swoon. The New York Times crooned: “Without Saying ‘Trump,’ Bush and Obama Deliver Implicit Rebukes.”

Trump’s Fed Chair Problem (How Do We Awaken Dorothy From Her Monetary Oz?)

Yellen would be closer to dovish Evans while Taylor would be closer to Rubebusch.

President Trump has a problem. And it is who to select as The Federal Reserve Chair by November 3rd. Of course, he can always keep mega-dove Janet Yellen. Or he choose someone new like National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, Fed Board Governor Jerome Powell, former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh or Stanford University economist John Taylor.

Macbeth Does the Stations of the Cross

Shakespeare’s deepest message was one of hope.

Considered the darkest of all of Shakespeare’s plays, it is nonetheless replete with some of the most magnificent poetry and psychological insight penned by our Bard. It is a study in the genesis and evolution of evil: vaulting ambition and the slippery slope that leads to further acts of murder until its violent end, this play that begins and ends and is soaked throughout in blood.

Is Liberalism a Dying Faith? Pat Buchanan

James Burnham called it (Liberalism) in his 1964 “Suicide of the West” — the ideology of Western suicide.

Asked to name the defining attributes of the America we wish to become, many liberals would answer that we must realize our manifest destiny since 1776, by becoming more equal, more diverse and more democratic — and the model for mankind’s future.

Catalonia crisis: Spain moves to suspend autonomy

Spain is to start suspending Catalonia's autonomy from Saturday, as the region's leader threatens to declare independence.
The government said ministers would meet to activate Article 155 of the constitution, allowing it to take over running of the region.
Catalonia's leader said the region's parliament would vote on independence if Spain continued "repression".

A referendum outlawed by Spain was held earlier this month.
Of the 43% who voted, 90% were in favour of independence.
Some fear the latest moves could spark further unrest after mass demonstrations before and since the ballot on 1 October.

Spain's supreme court declared the vote illegal and said it violated the constitution, which describes the country as indivisible.
Article 155 of the constitution, which cemented democratic rule three years after the death of dictator General Francisco Franco in 1975, allows Madrid to impose direct rule in a crisis but it has never been invoked

Webmaster's Commentary:

Prime Minister Rajoy seems hell-bent on creating a 2nd civil war in Spain; one has to wonder if NATO troops will be sent to Calalonia as "peace keepers.", under these conditions.

The other thing Prime Minister Rajoy seems to utterly ignore are the optics of such a move.

Spain is a signatory to the UN Charter, and in the UN Charter is enshrined the right to peaceful self-determination. Rajoy needs to remember this, in crushing the Catalonian movement.

And if Prime Minister Rajoy is determined to suppress the heretofore peaceful Catalonian independence movement, does that not compel Spain to do a "Sprexit" from the UN on this issue?!?

Think it through, Prime Minister, think it through!!

Barzani's Failed Kurdistan Project: A Deathblow To The Partition Of Iraq And Syria

The project to divide Iraq was dealt a deathblow by a decision of the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi to send the Army and the security forces to recover all Iraqi territories controlled by the Kurds of Massoud Barzani. The Kurdish leader was riding the horse of Iraqi partition (in fact, a lame horse) to establish a Kurdish state in the northern part of the country. Following the failure of Barzani’s project in taking advantage of the fight against ISIS and therefore declaring his “state”, every country in the Middle East is abandoning him because no one likes to be associated with failure.

Barzani sent envoys (I personally met some) around the globe who returned with apparently promising results: “over 80 countries promised to recognise the new State of Kurdistan”. These promises turned out to be false (“no friends but the mountains”), other (existing) political alliances turned out to be stronger and Barzani was left alone with his empty promises and unreliable advisers.

Spain and Catalonia set for showdown over independence bid

Catalonia is facing an unprecedented move by Madrid to seek a suspension of the region's autonomy this morning, unless separatist leader Carles Puigdemont abandons his bid for independence

Mr Puigdemont, who sparked Spain's worst political crisis in decades by holding a banned independence referendum on October 1, has been ordered by Madrid to say by 10.00 am (9am BST) whether or not he is unilaterally declaring a split from Spain.

The government of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy says it will trigger Article 155 of Spain's constitution - a measure that would allow it to start imposing direct rule over semi-autonomous Catalonia - unless Mr Puigdemont backs down.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is settng the stage for a second Spanish civil war.

I very seriously doubt that Mr Puigdemont, and his brother and sister Catalonians, are going to back down here, and things could get very brutal, with a Spanish introduction of complete martial law in the area.

Kansas Teacher Barred from Employment for Supporting BDS

Barring longtime math teacher Esther Koontz from renewing her teaching contract, solely for her political beliefs, is a flagrant First Amendment violation.

She righteously supports BDS activism, wanting Israel held accountable for its high crimes against Palestinians.

Kansas House Bill 2409 prohibits state contracts with individuals critical of Israel’s agenda. In NAACP v. Claiborne Hardware Co. (1982), the Supreme Court unanimously ruled for the plaintiff against state authorities, cracking down on boycotts of white businesses, saying authority over economic relations doesn’t limit or deny political speech.

Koontz is a member of the Mennonite Church USA. In July, it voted to divest from US companies, profiting from Israel’s illegal occupation.

She supports Palestinian rights. Her employment papers require a declaration in writing of no support for BDS. She declined and was denied the right to train

US 'not taking sides' between Iraqi forces, Kurds: Trump

Washington is "not taking sides" following clashes between Iraqi forces and the country's Kurds, US President Donald Trump said Monday, as tensions escalate following the autonomous Kurdish region's independence referendum.

Speaking after Iraqi troops and tanks swept across the northern province capturing oil and military targets from the Kurds and seizing the governor's office in Kirkuk city, Trump made clear he was not going to inject himself into the dispute between two US allies in the fight against the Islamic State group.

"We're not taking sides, but we don't like the fact that they're clashing," Trump told journalists. "We've had for many years a very good relationship with the Kurds.

"We've also been on the side of Iraq," he said, "but we're not taking sides in that battle."

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word here; you cannot wiggle out of your complicity, via your foreign policy in both Iraq and Syria, in creating this train wreck; please don't even try here, because it is making you look foolish.

Notorious US Regime-Change Specialist Targets Hungarian PM Orban

Many readers likely never heard the name of the remarkable Serbia-born political operator named Sr?a Popovi?.

Yet he and his organization, CANVAS, have played a lead role in most every CIA-backed Color Revolution since he led the toppling of Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in 2000, at least fifty according to last count.

On September 8, the professional regime-change specialist Sr?a Popovi? came to Budapest and joined with the anti-Orban opposition groups in front of the Hungarian Parliament.

It‘s clear that Popovi? was not in town to promote his Hungarian book on nonviolent regime change but rather to give aid to the anti-Orban parties before Hungarian elections in spring of 2018.

Many in Hungary smell the oily hand of Hungarian-born regime-change financier George Soros behind the Popovi? appearance now in Budapest.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The current Hungarian government, under Orban, is enforcing borders; language; and culture. They have seen what a mess unrestricted immigration has made of Germany, Sweden, Norway, and beyond, and want no part of it.

When people want to assimilate; train to work and be competitive; and embrace the cultural identity of their adoptive country, that's one thing; but attempting to enforce the cultural norms of their former countries; never learning the language, and living in the victimhood of entitlement... that is a whole different kettle of kumquats!!

Spectre of civil war looms over Iraq

It’s the most dangerous of brinkmanship and the stakes could not be higher. While not yet making the headlines it deserves, late Friday night after eleventh-hour negotiations between Kurdish and Iraqi government officials, Iraq seemed to step back from the brink of civil war - for now.

“Had the Iraqi forces kept moving for another 15 minutes, they would have hit the first red line, you could say, and would have been fired upon”>>>
***
The analyst was describing how Kurdish and Iraqi government forces after rushing troops and armour to the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, found themselves squaring off on Friday, sending political jitters across the region and beyond.

“We can’t turn on each other right now. We don’t want this to go to a shooting situation,” insisted US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis.

Trump goes full shabbos-goy – The Saker

For 10 years I have considered that my prediction of a US attack on Iran was the biggest analytical failure in my career. I now hope and pray that it will remain so...

At the risk of deepening what still might be my mistaken prognosis of 2007 I will say that yes, the USA will probably attack Iran. Since there is exactly ZERO chance of Iran caving in to the latest US-Israeli threats, not attacking Iran will now represent a major loss of face and humiliation for Trump and his Neocon masters. So the USA will go to war yet again, not for any rational reason, but solely because Bibi Netanyahu “owns” Trump and Israel “own” the USA.

WHY FRIDAY THE 13TH BECAME UNLUCKY – LEST WE FORGET (with related hilarious nsfw video)

...It was generally agreed that the charges were false, but...King Philip, who was already deeply in debt to the Templars from his war with the English, decided to seize upon the rumours ...as a way of freeing himself from his debts. At dawn on Friday, 13 October 1307 ...King Philip IV ordered de Molay and scores of other French Templars to be simultaneously arrested....Claims were made that... Templar ...recruits were forced to spit on the Cross, deny Christ, and engage in indecent kissing ...the order was said to have encouraged homosexual practices. The Templars were charged with numerous other offences such as financial corruption, fraud, and secrecy.

Some speculations regarding the accusations of homosexuality in addition to heresy: this was no doubt to seal their fate, since EVERY Catholic Priest knows intimately just how wrong these are...

To which this is the appropriate reponse, for the role the Church had in the murder of the Templars:

Julian Assange on Roger Stone & Accusations About WikiLeaks and Trump Campaign Ties to Russia

Microsoft has joined Facebook in saying it is investigating whether Russian operatives paid for “inappropriate” pro-Trump ads on its Bing search engine and other platforms. Social media giant Facebook has said a Russian company placed thousands of ads on their network at a cost of more than $100,000, including some that targeted states crucial to Trump’s victory.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo has blasted Wikileaks as a hostile intelligence service that is often abetted by state actors like Russia, and Trump adviser Roger Stone declined to confirm to the House Intelligence Committee that he was directly in contact with WikiLeaks about damaging information on then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The House of Saud bows to the House of Putin – Pepe Escobar

Saudi Arabia pivots to Russia, the new sheriff in town.

What a difference a year – an eternity in geopolitics – makes. No one could see this coming; the ideological matrix of all strands of Salafi-jihadi terror – which Russia fights no holds barred, from ISIS/Daesh to the Caucasus Emirate – beating a path to the Kremlin and about to embrace Russia as a strategic ally.

The House of Saud was horrified by Russia’s successful campaign to prevent regime change in Syria. Moscow was solidifying its alliance with Tehran. Hawks in the Obama administration were imposing on Saudi Arabia a strategy of keeping oil prices down to hurt the Russian economy.

Rumors About A Congress in Philly----

First, the individual people have to wake up and correct their political status records and actively choose and assert their birthright as state nationals---and put it on the public land jurisdiction record.

Second, they must get together with others who have "returned" and hold organizational meetings and public elections to set up their county and state jural assemblies. These are the bodies that give rise to our American Common Law land jurisdiction courts. Jural societies give rise to the international sea jurisdiction courts and admiralty courts-- so it is important that people know the difference between "jural assemblies" and "jural societies". The assemblies are the missing piece that has to be restored at the county and state levels.

Once these body politics are properly formed by eligible electors they can as a statewide assembly elect both Continental Congress members and Senators.

Identities of Three US Green Berets Killed in Niger Released, Fourth Found Dead

On Wednesday, ten to 12 Green Berets were accompanying a patrol of Nigerien forces about 120 miles north of the capital city of Niamey. They came within 20 miles of the Mali border, whereupon approximately 40-50 assailants attacked. AQIM is one of several militant groups currently in revolt against the Malian government.

The ambush was successful, killing four Green Berets and five Nigerien troops. Gunships from France, which runs their own military operations in Mali, arrived at the scene and dispersed the ambushers. Three Green Beret deaths were confirmed by the Pentagon almost immediately, with the fourth announced on Friday.

Slain US Troops Were Told Niger Area Was ‘Low-Risk’

US “training” operations in Niger took a turn for the deadly on Wednesday, when three US soldiers were killed, and two others wounded in an ambush by unspecified “enemies” near the Niger-Mali border. These are the first US combat deaths recorded in Niger, with another US soldier killed in a vehicle accident earlier this year.

The incident is raising a lot of questions, however, because US commanders had been telling everyone involved that the patrols were “low risk” and that there was little hostile activity in the area.

Now officials are trying to figure out what happened, and whether patrols became so predictable that the troops in the country made themselves a target in the area. For now, even who carried out the attack is subject to speculation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These troops were lied to, about the risk factor of their deployment here: their COs should have been much more forthright with them, about the real dangers they were facing.

National armies are the "hired guns" of major corporations, colluding with the governments which are their willing "errand boys", in order to expropriate foreign natural resources, to which they have no moral right, and make sure that those resources are only sold in specific currencies.

This is precisely what the US government is looking to do in Niger.

WARNING: There Is Going to be an Attempted Communist Revolution on Nov. 4

Back in August, I wrote about conferences held across the nation to begin planning these riots protests. Conferences were held in New York, Chicago, Austin, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. This is something that has been in the works for months, and basically, every group that is un-American is in on it.

What do they want to replace the Trump/Pence “regime” with?

I’m glad you asked. Their plan is to replace our current form of government with first, Socialism and ultimately, Communism. It says so right in their constitution. Oh, wait – I forgot to tell you – they have a draft of a constitution with which they want to replace the governing document of America. It’s called, “The Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America.” Here’s a little snippet from the introduction:

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder what the real agenda here is.

Because what will happen, should these riots take place, and spread, will ultimately be a suspension of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and the imposition of martial law at the Federal level.

As a Christian Pacifist Activist, I can never condone violence, even when I understand its root causes and underpinnings.

There are two places though which I transmute my anger (and yes, I do get angry about the state of this country), are my art, as a composer,or here on this blog, in the most logical, documented way humanly possible.

I have found Daisy Luther to be a sober, intelligent analyist of the currents in political movements both here and abroad, (and a brilliant writer on prepping), and consider this warning as serious as is a heart attack; So if you live in a dense, urban environment, because that is most likely where these riots are going to hit first, please take precautions accordingly.

Catalan crisis 'bigger threat to EU than Brexit', MEP warns

The crisis in Catalonia poses a bigger threat to the EU than Brexit, a senior MEP warned Wednesday as the European Parliament prepared to hold an emergency debate on Spain's worst political crisis in decades.

Catalonia's leader has vowed to declare independence within days, claiming a mandate from a weekend referendum which was declared illegal by Madrid and the Spanish courts and marred by violence.

Images of the police crackdown on the vote drew a vocal reaction from some MEPs, with Belgium's Philippe Lamberts, the head of the Green grouping in parliament, warning the crisis "threatened the spirit of European integration, even more than Brexit".

Several Green and far-left deputies criticised the Spanish police for their actions.

But Esteban Gonzalez Pons, an MEP from Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's Popular Party, rejected calls for mediation, saying Spain did not need "looking after".

Webmaster's Commentary:

The EU may well be in its death throes; but perhaps it will be better, economically, for those countries and industries Brussels has consistently regulated with an iron fist, and zero flexibility.

And I would like to politely remind all those EU-ers, who are also members of the UN (which I belive are all of the members of the EU), that peaceful self-determination is a concept enshrined in the UN charter.

Escobar: The Future Of The EU Is At Stake In Catalonia

Nano-Franco is Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, whose heroic shock troops were redeployed from a serious nationwide terrorist alert to hammer with batons and fire rubber bullets not against jihadis but … voters.

At least six schools became the terrain of what was correctly called The Battle of Barcelona.

Extreme right-wingers even held a demonstration inside Barcelona. Yet this was not shown on Spanish TV because it contradicted the official Madrid narrative.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How Spain, and the rest of Europe define, and work with, the Catalonian referendum, in a peaceful, responsible, adult way, is definitely going to define the future of the EU itself.

Catalan Leaders Seek to Make Referendum Binding

Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont has submitted the results of the the October 1 referendum to the Cataloina parliament, looking to make the vote official. It was a decisive “yes,” with an impressive turnout made doubly impressive by the violent Spanish police crackdown throughout the region.

The more immediate concern is to do something about that crackdown, however. Puigdemont is seeking international mediation following the vote, saying he wants to reach an understanding with the Spanish government, and avoid a “traumatic break.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The level of violence visited upon the Catalans by the Spanish police during this referendum very much reminds one of the level of violence inflicted by Franco's fascist police upon the demonstrators of his era.

And in this age of instant video and communications, there was no way for Rajoy to suppress what the world saw on Sunday:

"Total Stoppage": Barcelona Paralyzed By General Strike, Barricades As Protesters Take To The Streets

The Catalan rebellion escalated on Tuesday, resulting in a day of "total stoppage" for the Catalan capital, in which Barcelona metro stations were closed, pickets blocked main roads and civil servants walked out on Tuesday in response to a strike called by pro-independence groups as separatist activists took to the streets of Barcelona to press home their demands for independence after winning an referendum on Sunday which despite a violent crackdown by the Spanish government, saw nearly 90% of the vote cast for splitting away from Madrid.

How I Got Fired – Philip Giraldi

Exposing Jewish power in America has real consequences.

Two weeks ago, I wrote for Unz.com an article entitled “America’s Jews Are Driving America’s Wars.” It sought to make several points concerning the consequences of Jewish political power vis-à-vis some aspects of U.S. foreign policy. It noted that some individual American Jews and organizations with close ties to Israel, whom I named and identified, are greatly disproportionately represented in the government, media, foundations, think tanks and lobbying that is part and parcel of the deliberations that lead to formulation of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.

Inevitably, those policies are skewed to represent Israeli interests and do serious damage to genuine American equities in the region.

America:The Dictatress of The World

When the Constitution called the federal government into existence, the last thing the American people wanted was a powerful military. They were overwhelmingly opposed to what they called “standing armies,” which was a term used describe a big, permanent military establishment. That was why there was Pentagon, no big, permanent military-industrial complex, no CIA, and no NSA for more than 100 years after the country was established. The American people didn’t want those types of governmental apparatuses to be part of our nation’s political system.

The reason Americans were so opposed to standing armies is because they believed that standing armies constituted a grave threat to their freedom and economic well-being. They knew, from both first-hand experience and through history, that dictators and despots used powerful military establishments to destroy the freedom and prosperity of the citizenry, oftentimes in the name of keeping them safe, secure, and prosperous.

Unraveling the riddle of the Kurds’ Iraqi pipedream

Masoud Barzani has overplayed his hand – no regional powers are going to assent to partition of Iraq. Expect major turbulence ahead.

Question is will Erdogan sacrifice business interests to put political pressure ?

Now that index fingers in indelible indigo ink are out of the way, the real battle between the KRG and Baghdad begins. The Syrian Defense Forces or SDF have been blitzing southward for nearly a week to head off the steady advance of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their elite Tiger Forces. The SAA’s stunning triumph in Deir Ezzor has knocked Washington for a loop triggering all manner of erratic behavior including rocket and mortar attacks on SAA troop positions, a US-coordinated stealth attack in Idlib province, and numerous other provocations meant to divert attention from the main strategic objective, the lucrative Euphrates Valley oil fields.

Iraq plans to take control of Kurdistan region's border 'in coordination' with Iran, Turkey

Iraq plans to take control of the borders of its autonomous Kurdistan region “in coordination” with Iran and Turkey, the Iraqi Defence Ministry said on Friday.

The statement did not give more detail or indicate specifically whether Iraqi forces were planning to move toward the external border posts controlled by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) from the Iranian and Turkish side.

The move to seize the border posts is a response to a Kurdish referendum on Monday that produced a vote in favor of secession from Iraq.

Following the vote, Iraq, Iran and Turkey demanded that the KRG relinquish control over its external border crossings with Turkey, Iran and Syria.

Backed by Ankara and Tehran, the Iraqi government has demanded that the Kurdish leadership cancel the result of the referendum or face the prospect of sanctions, international isolation and possibly a military intervention.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that this Kurdish independence referendum has brought Iraq closer into the orbit of Turkey and Iran, rather than the orbit of the Occupied, Unhinged, Surveilled States of America; one has to wonder, regionally, how this is going to play out over time.

Catalans occupy voting stations to defy Madrid's order to stop referendum

Supporters of Catalan independence began occupying polling stations on Friday, setting up a possible confrontation with police who have been ordered to clear them out by Sunday morning to ensure a referendum cannot go ahead.

The central government, which has sent thousands of police reinforcements to stop people voting and has attempted to dismantle the infrastructure needed to conduct the referendum it says is illegal, insisted it would not go ahead.

Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont told Reuters in an interview, however: “Everything is prepared at the more than 2,000 voting points so they have ballot boxes and voting slips, and have everything people need to express their opinion.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

To the government of Spain; as a country which is part of the UN, for which the tenent of peaceful self-determination is enshrined in its charter, do you have any possible clue as to how lousy the optics of these moves look to the rest of the world?!?!?

The intelligent, rational thing to do would be to develop a dialogue with a soon to be independent Catalonia, and create a workable economic partnership here.

Of course, that... would be both pragmatic and intelligent.

Iraqi PM Demands Kurds ‘Cancel’ Referendum Result

The results of the Iraqi Kurdistan referendum on secession are in, with over 92% of the voters in favor of seceding from Iraq. Iraq’s Prime Minister Hayder Abadi has threatened military action in retaliation.

In fact, Abadi is now demanding that the Kurds totally cancel the vote, even though it’s already taken place and the results are already in, saying he will “never discuss” the results of the referendum because Iraq’s parliament didn’t give them permission for it.

Iraqi officials seem to be throwing everything at the situation in Kurdistan now and seeing what sticks. Demands for the Kurds to surrender their airports have been spurned, and Kurdish officials had ruled out returning to Baghdad’s rule before Abadi’s latest demands were even made.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi, a word, please; in a terse statement my late grandmother frequently used to illustrate the reality that it was past time to actually fix something, she would say: "The horse is already out of the barn."

The Iraqi Kurdish people have spoken, and with one voice; how you deal with it will, ultimately, be in one of two ways; either a Turkish-assisted genocide of the Iraqi Kurds, or a political accomodation which requires no bloodshed.

The choice is both yours, and that of the Iraqi government.

But I can assure you, that the entire world is watching.

As a member of the UN, and represented by Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, Mohammed al – Hakim, you must understand that peaceful self-determination is enshrined in the UN charter, to which Iraq is a signatory.

So you have the choice; genocide; or accomodation.

Which will it be, Prime Minister Abadi, with the entire world watching and collectively holding its breath?!?

TURKEY, IRAQ, AND IRAN CONSIDER JOINT MILITARY ACTION AGAINST THE KURDS

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu today warned that every option is on the table for dealing with Iraqi Kurdistan’s independence bid, and that they are considering a joint military operation with the Iraqi central government against the Kurds.

Iran chimed in shortly thereafter, saying they’re eager to stand with both Iraq and Turkey to rule out any possible secession of the Kurds. Top Khamenei adviser Ali Akbar Velayati termed the big “an abhorrent deviation,” adding that the region would “not allow the creation of a second Israel.”

Iraqi officials haven’t directly addressed the possibility of military action against the Kurds, though the Iraqi parliament has approved the deployment of the military into areas contested by the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, the sense I get here, is that we are looking at ethnic cleansing of Iraqi Kurds, and happening quickly.

Turkey, historically, is very comfortable with the concept of genocide:

The first genocide of the 20th Century occurred when two million Armenians living in Turkey were eliminated from their historic homeland through forced deportations and massacres.

As the Turkish government considers much of its own Kurdish population to be "terrorists", belonging to, or adhering to the principals of the PKK (even though many are completely innocent of any violence, and just requesting more rights and freedoms as an ethnic minority in Turkey), They will not hesitate to ethnically cleanse Iraq of its Kurdish population in a heartbeat, given the opportunity.

How to Bring Down the Elephant in the Room

First, a painful, but needed, clarification:

Basement crazies. Neocons. Zionists. Israel Lobbyists. Judaics. Jews. Somewhere along this list we bump into the proverbial “elephant in the room”. For some this bumping will happen earlier in the list, for others a little later down the list, but the list will be more or less the same for everybody. Proper etiquette, atleast in the West, would want to make us run away from this topic. I won’t. Why? Well, for one thing I am constantly accused of not discussing this elephant. Furthermore, I am afraid that the role this elephant is playing is particularly toxic right now. So let me try to deal with this beast, but first I have to begin with some caveats.

WORLD NEWSSpanish Police to Take Over Catalan Polling Stations to Thwart Independence Vote

Spain's government said on Tuesday police would take control of voting booths in Catalonia to help thwart the region's planned independence referendum that Madrid has declared illegal.

The dispute has plunged Spain into one of its biggest political crises since the restoration of democracy in the 1970s after decades of military dictatorship.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has said the referendum is against the law and the constitutional court has ordered it be halted while its legality is determined. Catalonia's separatist government, however, remains committed to holding it on Sunday.

Rajoy, speaking on Tuesday alongside U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, said it would be "ridiculous" if the affluent northeastern region declared independence from Spain.

Trump said he opposed the referendum and wanted a united Spain. "I really think the people of Catalonia would stay with Spain. I think it would be foolish not to," he told reporters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, a word, please; as a country which is a signatory to the UN, for which the concept of peaceful self-determination is enshrined in its charter, does the Spanish government have any possible clue about how geopolitically lousy the optics are of these moves against the Catalonian referendum?!?

SPANISH SUPPRESSION OF CATALAN INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT CONTINUES TO ESCALATE

Disobedient Media previously reported on the suppression of the Catalan independence movement in Spain. Since our first coverage of the issue, repressive tactics in Spain have continued to escalate. Disobedient Media’s report on the issue was also disingenuously smeared by Spanish media outlet El País. The press outlet also heavily criticized Edward Snowden and Julian Assange for having expressed concern on the matter.

That El País would perceive an independent news source like Disobedient Media as damaging enough to warrant such a response illustrates the deep insecurity the Catalan independence movement has stirred in Spain. El Paísdevoted a large, inaccurate chart to our coverage of the events:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Disgusting on the part of the Spanish media and government, but thoroughly predictable.

And by the way, does the incumbent Spanish President, Mariano Rajoy, want his country to remain in the UN?!?

And I say this, because he, at the moment, is having a "SMD" moment, (selelctive memory disorder moment) because he needs, and right the heck now ,to remember, that as a signatory to the UN, and an alleged advocate of its charter, the concept of "peaceful self-determination" is a value which is thoroughly enshrined in that charter.

What the Kurdish Referendum Means for the Future of Iraq

The referendum on independence for the Kurdish controlled territory, due to take place on 25 September, is the latest event billed as threatening the stability of Iraq and a good chunk of the Middle East. Seldom has a democratic poll in such a small place been so universally denounced by so many international powers, including the US, UK, Germany and France.

A White House statement emphasises “to the leaders of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) that the referendum is distracting from efforts to defeat Isis and stabilise the liberated areas. Holding the referendum in disputed areas is particularly provocative and destabilising.”

Regional powers like Turkey and Iran have likewise demanded that the referendum be cancelled and threatened retaliation if it is not. In Baghdad, the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has denounced it and the Supreme Court ruled that it was “unconstitutional”. But for all the sound and fury, it looks as if the vote is going ahead.

IRAN CLOSES AIRSPACE TO IRAQI KURDISTAN AHEAD OF HISTORIC INDEPENDENCE VOTE

The diplomatic and economic noose is tightening around Iraqi Kurdistan one day ahead of its historic independence referendum. On Sunday, the Iranian government announced closure of its airspace to northern Iraq's Sulaimani and Erbil Airports, at the request of Iraqi authorities. The Baghdad government has repeatedly threatened military intervention in Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region should the vote proceed on Monday, which Baghdad warns could provoke invasion by neighboring states. The United States too has warned that the non-binding referendum will be “particularly provocative and destabilizing” - this as Turkey musters tanks along its border with Iraqi Kurdistan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If this referendum gets overwhelmingly passed by Iraqi Kurds, which may well happen, look for a massive war in this part of Iraq, with Iran, Iraq, and Turkey, fighting Iraqi Kurds for territory, potentially completely destabilising Iraq.

TURKEY AND IRAN CONDUCT MASSIVE MILITARY DRILLS NEAR KURDISH REGIONS OF IRAQ

Today, Iraqi Kurds will vote in a long awaited and widely condemned separatism referendum that is being boycotting by Arabs and Turkomen.

The referendum which has been condemned by all regional powers except for Israel as well as condemned by the UN, US, China and Russia, has already caused both Iran and Turkey to effectively shut down Iraqi airspace for all commercial flights over the region.

Today, both Iran and Turkey have been conducting large scale live-fire military drills in their respective regions bordering parts of Iraq unilaterally claimed by Kurds.

The no-fly zone over the area which will be policed by Iran and Turkey has been coordinated with the Iraqi government.

According to Keyvan Khosravi, the press secretary of Iran’s supreme national security conucil

Webmaster's Commentary:

If in fact Kurds vote for independence, this may well create yet another civil war in sections of Iraq and Syria.

But one has to wonder; where is the US government in all this?!? Although the Kurds have been the most steadfast, valiant proxy against the jihadists in Syria, and there was an unspoken understanding that the US would support an independent Kurdish state after the defeat of Isis, that support doesn't seem to be at all forthcoming. As reported at israelrising.com last week:

“The United States does not support the Kurdistan Regional Government’s intention to hold a referendum later this month,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Friday. “The United States has repeatedly emphasized to the leaders of the Kurdistan Regional Government that the referendum is distracting from efforts to defeat [the Islamic State] and stabilize the liberated areas.” Of course, the United States should not be surprised by the drive by the Kurds for an independent state. The Kurds have for centuries pushed for their own sovereign country without success. Now, with the Kurdish Regional Government showing that they are by far the most stable entity in Iraq and have been the biggest reason behind the coalition’s success against ISIS, the drive for independence has been expected. “We know, by the way, that the State Department and possibly the [Defense Department] are personally contacting members of Congress, senators, representatives, asking them not to support the referendum,” Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, told POLITICO in a recent interview. “We’re very serious about independence. It’s kind of disheartening that for two to three years we talked about a referendum and the U.S. said that it was surprised.” The US is challenged by the possibility of an independent Kurdistan, because supporting its independence, would essentially collapse the post World War 2 security structure in the Middle East. An independent Kurdistan in Northern Iraq may only constitute a minority of the total Kurdish population and their homeland in the Middle East, but by the US supporting it, would cause Turkey to disconnect from the West and Iraq to officially declare allegiance to Iran.
