The war in Ukraine through the eyes of a soldier – serving in the DPR Army

The ceasefire that nobody even believed in is now in complete disarray. Massive artillery attacks from Ukrainian side were launched upon Gorlovka, Spartak, Maryinka, Shirokino and several areas of Donetsk. The added deployment and use of heavy artillery and tanks, leave no doubt that military operations have escalated to new levels.

Alison Weir Replies to JVP Leaders’ McCarthy-like Attacks

I hope JVP will desist from its attacks on those it dislikes, and will instead focus on the often excellent work it is doing and that its members want.

I feel strongly that we all contribute important things to the movement for justice and peace in Palestine. It is time to stop fighting among ourselves, for JVP and others to stop their witch hunts against deeply committed writers and activists, for JVP to stop its attempted censorship and domination of the Palestine movement, and for all of us to get on with our desperately important work.

That’s what I intend to do.

IMF Humiliates Greece, Repeats It Will Keep Funding Ukraine Even If It Defaults

One week ago, we were stunned to learn just how low the political organization that is the mostly US-taxpayer funded IMF has stooped when, a day after its negotiators demonstratively stormed out of the Greek negotiations with "creditors", Hermes' ambassador-at-large Christone Lagarde said that the IMF "could lend to Ukraine even if Ukraine determines it cannot service its debt."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Talk about adding insult to injury with Greece.

but the IMF wants to put Ukraine squarely in the European sphere of influence, and wants the breakaway republics "neutralized" (more on that in an earlier post), because that's where the heart of manufacturing exists in Ukraine.

Robotic Warfare Part of Pentagon Strategy to Defeat Eurasia

Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work expounded upon the US’ military strategy in Eurasia during a speech at the Army War College Strategy Conference on 8 April, revealing critical insight into the Pentagon’s formal approach to forthcoming conflicts.

Work’s words should be read in full by any strategist endeavoring to understand the imperatives that guide the world’s most armed forces. He elaborates on the theoretical foundations of American military might, including how the Pentagon plans to counter the three types of wars supposedly being waged by Iran, Russia, and China.

The main strategic innovation being presented is something called the “Third Offset Strategy”, which in practice amounts to electromagnetic anti-missile rail guns and seamless combat integration between man and machine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work: why are you not preparing for peace?!? A peace that involves hard, good-faith negotiations, and people working together for the common good?!?

I come from San Francisco, and that's earthquake country. So are parts of China, and Iran. Can you imagine if the best experts from all these countries came together to create an affordable building material that was quake-resistant? What if they could develop an earthquake prediction system that really worked, so we can save lives?!?

You see, I do not want to live in the world it appears US Deputy Secretary of Defense Work wishes to build; a world of fear, manufactured hatred, and loathing, and ultimately war. I see the possibilities for collaboration on many scientific fronts, for example the use of 3D printing in the medical arena.

It seems to me that there is a horrifically communicable mental illness in DC, and this mental illness has to do the making of money through war at all costs, no matter how much the people of the warring countries have to suffer. And it is this simple:

"War's never fought for the reasons you're given,
those in power keep feeding you lies
And the reasons you're made to keep fighting and killing
should come as no big surprise.
It's not about freedom, or glory, or honor,
or preserving the American Way;
It's all about money, control, greed and power,
and making those who resist go away...
And making those who resist go away..."

(*From the soon to be released song by Claire Rivero, "War's never fought for the reasons you're given")

Kiev's Junta Forces Terror Bomb Donbass

Kiev war crimes include using banned chemical weapons, cluster bombs and white phosphorous in Donbass - including against civilian neighborhoods.

Reports indicate US experts are helping Ukraine produce chemical weapons for use against rebel forces. Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) intelligence learned they're being secretly developed for escalated dirty war.

On Tuesday, reported fuel-air (thermobaric) explosives targeted a Donetsk chemical plant - fired from junta held Kurahhovo village 30 kilometers away.

These weapons suck oxygen from open areas and human lungs. They generate intense, high-temperature explosions. They're much more destructive than conventional explosives of equal weight - especially when used against people in bunkers, shelters, caves and other enclosed places.

It's virtually impossible for civilians to shelter against their destructive effects. A Russian military scientist once called their capability comparable to low-yield radiological munitions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

People, IF, IN FACT THESE REPORTS ARE TRUE (and Lendman rarely gets this stuff wrong) WHERE THE HELL IS THE OUTRAGE HERE?!?!?

With so many problems here at home, and humanity seemingly on the brink of a world war (courtesy of the money junkies), that the guys in DC are spending a DIME of US taxpayer money on creating something which, when used, is a war crime, while the infrastructure in this country rots, makes me outraged.

There is a Biblical phrase which I am paraphrasing, and it is, "As you sow, so shall you reap". The US government is sowing destruction around the world at a frantic pace, and at some time, there will be payback, and it will not be pretty.

As a Christian Pacifist, understanding the depth of evil emanating from the bowels of power in this government can be more than a little ... disconcerting.

We need to stand up, collectively, and peacefully, and say "NO MORE!!!!"

Truth Has Been Murdered — Paul Craig Roberts

The Western media has created a fictional account of events in Ukraine. The coup organized by the Obama regime that overthrew the elected democratic government in Ukraine is never mentioned. The militias decked out in Nazi symbols are ignored. These militias are the principle source of the violence that has been inflicted on the Russian populations, resulting in the formation of the break-away republics. Instead of reporting this fact, the corrupt Western media delivers Washington’s propaganda that Russia has invaded and is annexing eastern and southern Ukraine. British and European politicians parrot Washington’s lies.

Russia Could Come to Greece’s Rescue. That’s Bad News for the United States and NATO.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A Russian rescue of the Greek economy, offering far better terms than the ECB would offer, would be an ironic twist to the coming "Grexit", and definitely swing Greece deeply into the Russian sphere of influence.

Unfortunately, however, the ECB has done this to itself, and of course there can be no backsliding to the horrific austerity into which it has put Greece, because then all the other nations indebted to the ECB will ask for better terms as well.

The enormous effort by eastern hemisphere countries to diversify their reserves out of the dollar and into physical gold is quite remarkable. The Hague is not Vladimir Putin’s favorite place today. Following the “war crime” comments earlier, the arbitration court’s decision to rule in favor of Yukos shareholders (and thus against the allegedly “politically motivated” confiscation of the firm’s assets by the Russian government) with a $50 billion settlement (half what was sought) has prompted a quick and angry response from the Russian government. Blasting the “one-sided use of evidence,” and re-iterating the massive tax evasion that the leadership were involved in, Russia slams “the puzzling unprecedented amount of damages” awarded, claiming the process is “becoming increasingly politicized.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like Belgium and France are playing "Economic Picadors" with these moves; Putin has every right to be enraged at how Russia has been played in this.

The question is, how is Russia going to respond, and what will Putin do?!?

Pentagon Building Cruise Missile Shield To Defend US Cities From Russia

The plan calls for buying radars that would enable National Guard F-16 fighter jets to spot and shoot down fast and low-flying missiles. Top generals want to network those radars with sensor-laden aerostat balloons hovering over U.S. cities and with coastal warships equipped with sensors and interceptor missiles of their own.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I look around, both locally and at the mainland, and realize, painfully clearly, that We the People are getting looted to make more bombs, weapons, and planes which will not really make this country more secure in any tangible way.

The only things which will create safety for Americans are hard, good faith negotiations with countries this government doesn't really like, to create win-win situations, and the US not mucking about in other people's countries to attain resources to which the US government has no moral claim whatsoever.

Unfortunately, these are two courses of action this government is pathologically unable to navigate, and that reality will lead to either a complete financial breakdown in this country, or a world war.

I sincerely wish I could see the outcome differently, but right now, there appears to be no middle ground here.

EU extends trade and investment ban on Crimea

EU governments extended for a year a ban on trade and investment with Crimea on Friday, meaning European help for Russian Black Sea oil and gas exploration and visits by European cruise ships will remain outlawed.

The measures were adopted following Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region in March last year and reinforce the EU's policy of not recognizing the annexation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One more time, and this time I will go ... real ... slow ... for the dim-witted people hired to write for the corporate media; Russia did not annex Crimea. Following the US-backed overthrow of the government of Ukraine in January 2014, Crimea VOTED to secede, as they did not want to live under a US puppet ruler (given the long and tragic history of other nations struggling under such US Juntas). Crimea had the legal right to do so under the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which grants all people the right to self-determination. Crimea then held a second election, and voted to merge with Russia. Crimea made that request and Russia accepted.

Now, we all know the presstitutes and whorespondents of the corporate media are paid liars. Following the collapse of the Sunday Times story that Russia and China had decoded Edward Snowden's files, placing intelligence assets at risk (the files were destroyed before Snowden went to Russia) one of the authors of the Sunday Times piece ducked the blame for the deception by claiming in a CNN interview that he just wrote what the government told him to write, so it wasn;t like he himself did a bad thing!

So, to all the presstitutes and whorespondents of the corporate media (and I know some of you read this web page); I know you are hired and paid to be mindless government stooges, but let's not abuse the policy!

Putin: Unilateral US withdrawal from ABM treaty pushing Russia toward new arms race

Global decisions like the US pulling out of a treaty banning strategic anti-ballistic missile defenses are pushing the world towards a new Cold War, Russian President Vladimir Putin said. Military conflicts have a far lesser impact, he added.

“Not military conflicts but global decisions like the US unilateral withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty lead to a Cold War,” Putin said. “This more in fact pushes us to a new round of the arms race, because it changes the global security system.”

Oliver Stone: Ukrainians are suffering from US 'ideological crusade' against Russia

In response to those who took exception with his claims that the Ukrainian crisis involved “outside agitators,” Oliver Stone took to social media to advance his argument, saying that Ukrainians are the victims of a US strategy akin to Cold War 2.0.

This week, Stone stirred a political firestorm with his views on what he believed sparked the Ukrainian crisis, following a private interview with Viktor Yanukovich, the former Ukrainian president who was ousted in the February 2014 coup.

"It seems clear that the so-called ‘shooters’ who killed 14 policemen, wounded some 85 and killed 45 protesting civilians, were outside, third-party agitators,” Stone said, following his four-hour conversation with Yanukovich in Moscow. “Many witnesses, including Yanukovich and police officials, believe these foreign elements were introduced by pro-Western factions – with CIA fingerprints on it.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Former head of Ukrainian Customs in Lugansk Oleg Chernousov has defected to Lugansk People's Republic because he did not want to take part, even indirectly, in the so-called “Anti-Terrorist Operation” (ATO) in Donbass. It was announced by Chernousov at a press conference in Lugansk today.

My decision to return to Lugansk came after some time of watching and analysing the activities of the Ukrainian authorities. I didn’t agree with their politics, with what’s happening now in Ukraine. President Putin said that in the recent years some currency fluctuations with the ruble have occurred, and they have been multidirectional. But "it's all in the market area," he said.
While speaking about the government's position, President Putin said that "we all understand everything but what is important is not to overdo it. The excessive weakening of the national currency has its negative components". However, the "exchange rate difference is more potent and works more efficiently than budget support" for the real, export oriented production, the president said.

Russia becomes world’s largest recipient of asylum applications, UN says

"With a total of 274,700 registered individual asylum requests, the Russian Federation became the largest single recipient of new individual asylum claims worldwide in 2014," the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.
This figure includes about 7,000 applications for refugee status and some 267,800 applications for temporary asylum in Russia. "In previous years, the combined figure had never exceeded the 5,000 mark," the report reads.
The outbreak of conflict in eastern Ukraine had a major impact on the 2014 figures. A total of 271,200 or around 99% of claims in Russia were lodged by Ukrainians, it says.
"Of the 1.47 million initial individual asylum applications registered with either UNHCR or States worldwide during 2014, Ukrainians lodged 288,600 claims - on average, every fifth claim," according to the report.

The American concept of a massive nuclear attack remains unchanged. The plan of attack exists to this day, and every US president modifies it to fit circumstances. During the first year of the war, the Soviet Union was outstripping the German economy, right since 1941. Economically, it was not just Germany that was waging war against the Soviet Union. In 1939, Germany included the territory of Austria and a part of Poland and the Czech Republic. In addition to Germany, the whole Western and Central Europe were at war with the USSR. U.S. May Position for a War Against Russia?

The Soviet Union (and its communism, which the U.S. always said was the basis for the Cold War) ended in 1991. That was the same year when the Warsaw Pact — Russia’s equivalent of NATO — also ended. In Russia, the expectation was that that would be that — there would be no more hostility between the governments of the U.S.A. and Russia. Russian leaders had assumed this, but it turned out not to be the case. (Perhaps this explains part of the reason why it turned out not to be so: Dick Cheney’s Halliburton Corporation in the 1990s estimated that Russia has enormous oil deposits.)

U.S. President Barack Obama (via his State Department official Victoria Nuland, and Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt) relied chiefly upon Andrei Parubiy (“the Commandant of Maidan”) to be the CEO of the Ukrainian coup in February 2014, and upon Dmitriy Yarosh to be the coup’s COO — its Chief Operating Officer, which in this case was not so much an executive function as a military-organizing function.

How The IMF Really Works

That’s how the IMF works. It loans billions to countries who it knows can’t pay back.

It’s a Jewish scam to ‘foreclose’ on a country’s assets.

Ukrainian activists bring makeshift toilet bowl to parliament building

The protesters, wearing face masks featuring ex-Prosecutors General Vitaly Yarema, Oleg Makhnitsky and Acting Prosecutor Viktor Shokin, were turning over "investigation files" of criminal cases opened against former corrupt politicians, to a figure, which represented President Petro Poroshenko, who had been "washing the files away" into the lavatory bowl.
"The aim of the act is to show what might happen if the anti-corruption Prosecutor’s office is subordinated to the Prosecutor General," the protesters said.
SBU Chief Faces Dismissal for 'Uncompromising' Anti-Corruption Campaign:
Poroshenko is deeply committed to cracking down on corruption — but everyone knows that anti-corruption crusades require “compromise”. Especially in Ukraine. SBU Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko did not know this, and now he is likely to be fired. Good deeds never go unpunished.

Stuxnet-Like Digital Attack on Iran Nuclear Talks May Have Come from Israel, Security Researchers Say

Moscow-based technical security company Kaspersky Lab last week revealed evidence of a new cyber attack on both its own network and those of several European hotels that hosted nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 (US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany) last year.

This follows a March 2015 Wall Street Journal report that revealed senior White House officials knew Israel was spying on talks surrounding Iran's nuclear program. The report explained, “the spying operation was part of a broader campaign by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to penetrate the negotiations and then help build a case against the emerging terms of the deal.”

Dangerous propaganda

Winning the battlefield called public opinion has never been so important nor so divisive. The western media’s assault on Russia approaches sensory overload, but is it effective? There is a vast ongoing propaganda war being played out – whose propaganda should we be worried about?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Propaganda only works when the people being propagandized do not know it, and still trust their government and corporate media to tell the truth; two factors obviously absent in the US.

China Rising — Pepe Escobar

Americans have to eventually share their preeminent position with China.”

As intellectual acumen and cross-cultural expertise go, it would be hopeless to expect self-described “Don’t Do Stupid Stuff” Obama administration foreign policy advisers — as well as Pentagon functionaries/hacks — to understand the complexities of China.

For instance, they would be incapable of evaluating all the myriad ramifications included in Professor Alfred McCoy’s masterful deconstruction of US-China geopolitics.

“The US cannot stop China’s rise. It just has to live with a bigger China, which will be completely novel for the US, as no country has ever been big enough to challenge its position. China will be able to do so in 20 to 30 years.” (Lee said that at the Future China Global Forum in Singapore, in 2011. Under Xi, China is already challenging the U.S.’s position.)

Syriza: Plunder, Pillage and Prostration

How the ‘Hard Left’ embraces the policies of the Hard Right

Greece has been in the headlines of the world’s financial press for the past five months, as a newly elected leftist party, ‘Syriza’, which ostensibly opposes so-called ‘austerity measures’, faces off against the “Troika” (International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and European Central Bank).

Early on, the Syriza leadership, headed by Alexis Tsipras, adopted several strategic positions with fatal consequences – in terms of implementing their electoral promises to raise living standards, end vassalage to the ‘Troika’ and pursue an independent foreign policy.

We will proceed by outlining the initial systemic failures of Syriza and the subsequent concessions further eroding Greek living standards and deepening Greece’s role as an active collaborator of US and Israeli imperialism.

American dreaming, from G1 to Bilderberg

G1 plus junior partners? Bilderberg? Get a job; you’re not the only show in town, any town.

What’s the connection between the G7 summit in Germany, President Putin’s visit to Italy, the Bilderberg club meeting in Austria, and the TTIP – the US-EU free trade deal – negotiations in Washington?

We start at the G7 in the Bavarian Alps – rather G1 with an added bunch of “junior partners” – as US President Barack Obama gloated about his neo-con induced feat; regiment the EU to soon extend sanctions on Russia even as the austerity-ravaged EU is arguably hurting even more than Russia.

The “civilized” G1 + junior partners could not possibly argue whether they would collectively risk a nuclear war on European soil over a Kiev-installed ‘Banderastan’, sorry, “Russian aggression.”
