Russian Central Bank Intervenes After Currency Crashes, Halts "Manipulated" Equity Futures Trading

The Russian Ruble has collapsed this morning. Despite a modest dead-cat-bounce-like rally in crude oil, the Ruble is down almost 3 handles smashing through the 61/USD level for the first time ever. Minutes after flash-crashing to 61.46/USD, officials, according to Reuters, halted trading in certain instruments to “prevent possible manipulation of equity futures market."

Attempts to pressure Russia are futile – Lavrov to Kerry

It is useless for Washington to try to pressure Moscow on the world arena; instead, it should take into account the other side’s interests, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told US Secretary of State John Kerry as the two officials met in Rome.

“When discussing bilateral relations Lavrov stressed that their development is possible only on the basis of equality and mutual interests, while any attempts to pressure Russia have no prospect,” according to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement on Facebook.

The top diplomats discussed the situation in southeastern Ukraine, and Lavrov stressed the importance of adhering to the Minsk agreements.

US isolated, BRICS to get greater voting power at IMF

Months after the formation of new financial institutions like the $100 billion BRICS Bank and the China-led Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank, Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said Friday that the organization is ready to discuss IMF voting reforms without the United States to give BRICS and emerging countries greater voting power.

Lagarde said the IMF is disappointed with the US inaction to ratify the governance and quota reforms and will now move forward without Washington.

“The IMF’s membership has been calling on and was expecting the United States to approve the IMF’s 2010 Quota and Governance Reforms by year-end. Adoption of the reforms remains critical to strengthen the Fund’s credibility, legitimacy, and effectiveness, and to ensure it has sufficient permanent resources to meet its members’needs,” Lagarde said in a statement.

Ukraine to Double Military Budget, Conscript 40,000 for Eastern War

Ukraine’s ceasefire with eastern rebels has been holding for quite some time, and even President Poroshenko now says it’s “real.” That would ruin Ukraine’s anti-Russia rhetoric if it holds, and Ukrainian policy is being drawn up to see it doesn’t.

The defense ministry today laid out plans to double the size of Ukraine’s military budget to $3.2 billion, and intends to conscript some 40,000 men into the military to fight against the eastern rebels.

What’s unclear is where Ukraine will actually get the additional $1.5 billion to spend on its war, as the nation is perpetually on the verge of bankruptcy and courting Western bailouts.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Uh.... where, precisely, does Ukraine think it is going to get this money, and how many Ukrainians are going to be eager to fight, with the Ukrainian military getting such short shrift in terms of rations, medical care, compensation, and training?!?

Just wondering, folks. And by the way, this was hard on the heels of the following article, posted 10 December, at russia-insider.com:

Ukraine’s new Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius said on Wednesday the country was in fact a bankrupt. “The state, as a matter of fact, is bankrupt, so, it is simply unrealistic to expect us to offer substantive, rather than merely declarative, programmes of motivation,” he said at a session of the Verkhovna Rada (parliemant) committee for economic policy.

Germany, Stuck with Massive Bill for Ukraine, Asks Russia for Help

The last two paragraphs in the article show that the German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble has been obliged to telephone Anton Siluanov, Russia’s Finance Minister, to ask him not to call in Russia’s $3 billion loan, which becomes automatically repayable when Ukraine’s debt exceeds 60% of its GDP, something which everybody knows has now happened.

It also says that “George Osborne, the UK finance minister, expressed surprise at the request, attendees said, saying the EU was now asking for help from Russia at the same time it was sanctioning the Kremlin for its actions in Ukraine.”

In other words in order to “save” Ukraine (and their own political reputations) the European leadership is now being forced to turn to Russia for help - the same country they accuse of invading and destabilising Ukraine and which they have sanctioned.

The New Cold War Policy Has Backfired

The world’s geopolitics, major trade patterns and military alliances have changed radically in the past month. Russia has re-oriented its gas and oil trade, and also its trade in military technology, away from Europe toward Eurasia.

The result is the opposite of America’s hope for the past half-century of dividing and conquering Eurasia: setting Russia against China, isolating Iran, and preventing India, the Near East and other Asian countries from joining together to create an alternative to the U.S. dollar area. American sanctions and New Cold War policy has driven these Asian countries together in association with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an alternative to NATO, and in the BRICS moves to avoid dealing with the dollar area, the IMF and World Bank austerity programs.

Russia Can Outshoot US' Stealth Jets (F-22 & F-35)

High flying and fast, the F-22 Raptor stealth jet is by far the most lethal fighter America has ever built. But the Raptor—and indeed all U.S. fighters—have a potential Achilles’ heel, according to a half-dozen current and former Air Force officials.

The F-22’s long-range air-to-air missiles might not be able to hit an enemy aircraft, thanks to new enemy radar-jamming techniques.

NATO Prepositions Weapons in Poland for Attack on Russia

The lengthiest excerpt from the article that’s online is at NATO’s own site, the PR delivered straight from the horses’ mouth, http://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/natosource/russia-fears-prompt-na..., which posting there is certainly validation that the article represents NATO’s position accurately, even if it does so in ‘appropriately’ vague terms. (Of course, that’s not “appropriate” for readers, but for NATO, which is the weapons-manufacturers’ trade-organization, that’s being served in this ‘news’ story.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

A NATO-led war against Russia would be utterly disastrous for the West; and if you have a difficult time of wrapping your head around that, just look at the incredible "victory" NATO has wrested from the rebels in Afghanistan, 13 years on. Their "contribution" to the US war effort here has been one very sick joke.

And please don't get me started on the aftermath of their "victory" in Libya, with the ouster of Gaddafi, which has only exacerbated the instability here, to the point where various African countries are tag-teaming their military to control the insurgents. The future of Libya is still very much up in the air.

To put it plainly, NATO and the US do not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war with Russia; and this is what makes the military confrontation scenario so scary.

And in terms of Russia's manufacturing and purchasing of war equipment, although they are not spending as much as the US government, the Russians are getting a lot more bang for their buck than does the US.

A war against Russia would be the last, desperate act of a criminally insane Western leadership.

‘Don’t Get Russia Wrong': NATO Intel Warns Against Misjudging Moscow On Ukraine – 7 December 2014

House Chooses New Cold War With Russia

Last week the US House voted overwhelmingly in favor of an anti-Russia resolution so full of war propaganda that it rivals the rhetoric from chilliest era of the Cold War. Ironically, much of the bill condemns Russia for doing exactly what the US government has been doing for years in Syria and Ukraine!

For example, one of the reasons to condemn Russia in the resolution is the claim that Russia is imposing economic sanctions on Ukraine. Russia's Central Bank Hit by Accusations of Sabotaging Ruble

The Prosecutor General's Office is looking into the Central Bank's operations after a ruling party lawmaker accused it being an "enemy of the country" by supposedly driving down the ruble and plotting "evil" against Russia.

The ruble weakened over 6 percent to the U.S. dollar over Monday and Tuesday amid Western sanctions against Moscow's over its policy on Ukraine and slumping energy prices. But Yevgeny Fyodorov, a United Russia lawmaker and member of the State Duma's Budget and Tax Committee, charged that the troubles were the Central Bank's fault.

Reckless Congress 'Declares War' on Russia

In fact, the bill was 16 pages of war propaganda that should have made even neocons blush, if they were capable of such a thing.

Just In: See How Your Representative Voted on Bill for Obama to Send Weapons to Ukraine

It’s a bill authorizing Obama to supply weapons to the bankrupt Ukrainian Government to exterminate (and/or drive out into neighboring Russia) the people in the areas of Ukraine’s southeast that had voted 90% for the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych, whom Obama overthrew in a bloody coup in February 2014; but, of course, that’s not how it’s worded.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government appears to be moving swiftly toward a war against Russia over Ukraine; at least, Ukraine is the "good reason", and not the real reason, which is stopping Russia's economic growth.

And to the 411 House Congressional representatives who voted for this, I would almost be willing to be real money that NONE of your sons or daughters are serving in the US military, either right now, or in the foreseeable future.

And I say this because, somewhere, in the data you have received about the US military's readiness, you have received information stating very clearly that the US military, at this point in its history, is not really capable of besting Russia militarily, in a conventional engagement.

And if, as just an ordinary civilian, I understand this, I am absolutely gobsmacked that you do do not.

I would like to remind you 411 that right now, the US military doesn't have the troop strength, the money, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome in such an engagement; and that is what makes the military option against Russia so completely terrifying to consider.

Yes, the US government spends lavishly for its weapons. But what is it getting, really, in terms of value for the money spent?!?

Do I need to remind you folks about the "problem child" F-35?!? And unfortunately, that is just the tip of the iceberg regarding problems with US weaponry.

The Russians and Chinese have spent less on their weapons systems, but are getting some amazing results. As reported in October 2014 in the Russia & India report:

Moscow has an array of newer weapons rolling off the assembly lines to complement these Cold Warriors. The powerful strategic bombers will be escorted by the super-maneuverable Sukhoi-27 Flanker and the newest member of the Flanker family, the Su-35 Super Flanker. Able to carry an enormous variety and number of payload, the Su-35’s most potent weapons are a ramjet-powered version of the K-77 air-to-air missile and the Kh-59 land attack cruise missile. Both aircraft are nearly invisible to radar during super-maneuverable flight.

As to China's military in their weapons technological leap forward, as reported in the August 2014 edition of wantchinatimes.com:

The observation satellite Gaofen-2 launched Aug. 19 from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, is able to discern one-meter-long objects on the ground with high resolution in full color. Russia's latest observation satellite has a 30-centimeter detection rate while that of the leading power in the race, the US, reaches 12.7 centimeters. China's Aug. 19 satellite launch means that the country will be capable of building a powerful Earth detection system in space and thus enhance significantly its military strength. The one-meter detection rate may seem far less powerful than the Russian or American satellites, but it is sufficient for most military and economic detection missions, the report said. The Chinese military equipped with the facilities for analyzing the satellite detection data will make a big stride in its competition with US intelligence capability, said the report.

IT is very difficult for me to believe that you 411 voted for this bill, understanding, with sure and certain knowledge, that you just voted for war against Russia; and yet, that was precisely what you did.

Banks love war, because all sides have to go into debt to finance it; the military industrial and intelligence industrial complex love war, because war brings money.

But what does such a war bring to the American people?!?

Absolutely nothing but devastation; bigger graveyards; and grief for the fallen, and those who have been maimed for life, all in the pursuit of private corporate profit.

I have to wonder just how many defense stocks you all hold,(and what the major defense companies contribute to your campaigns), and how you excited you're going to get when those stocks through the roof, when war comes; and that makes you 411 members of Congress who voted through this bill the real war criminals.

New York Times propagandists exposed: Finally, the truth about Ukraine and Putin emerges

It has been a long and lonely winter defending the true version of events in Ukraine, but here comes the sun. We now have open acknowledgment in high places that Washington is indeed responsible for this mess, the prime mover, the “aggressor,” and finally this term is applied where it belongs. NATO, once again, is revealed as causing vastly more trouble than it has ever prevented.

Washington, it is now openly stated, has been wrong, wrong, wrong all along. The commentaries to be noted do not take on the media, but I will, and in language I use advisedly. With a few exceptions they are proven liars, liars, liars — not only conveying the official version of events but willfully elaborating on it off their own bats.

The ink on Barack Obama's Chuck Hagel termination letter hasn't dried yet but already the US president's new, and seemingly far more hawkish advisors, are having their warmongering presence felt. Case in point: the Eastern European theater of (Cold) war, where Military.com reports that the new Army commander in Europe plans to bolster the U.S. armored presence in Poland and the Baltic states and keep rotations of U.S. troops there through next year and possibly beyond to counter Russia. Lt. Gen. Frederick "Ben" Hodges, who replaced Lt. Gen. Donald M. No to War, Hot or Cold, With Russia

U.S.-Russia relations have deteriorated severely in the past decade and they are about to get worse, if the House passes H. Res. 758.

NATO encirclement, the U.S.-backed coup in Ukraine, an attempt to use an agreement with the European Union to bring NATO into Ukraine at the Russian border, a U.S. nuclear first-strike policy, are all policies which attempt to substitute force for diplomacy.

Russia’s response to the terror unleashed by western-backed neo-nazis in Crimea and Odessa came after the local population appealed to Russia to protect them from the violence. Russia then agreed to Crimea joining the Russian Federation, a reaffirmation of an historic relationship.

Saudi Arabia Declares Oil War on US Fracking, hits Railroads, Tank-Car Makers, Canada, Russia; Sinks Venezuela

When OPEC announced on Thanksgiving Day that it would maintain oil production at 30 million barrels per day, chaos broke out in the oil market, and the price of oil around the globe spiraled into a terrific plunge. The unity of OPEC, if there ever was such a thing, was in tatters with Saudi oil minister smiling victoriously, and with a steaming Venezuelan oil minister thinking of the turmoil his country is facing [OPEC Refuses to Cut Production, Oil Plunges off the Chart].

During the closed-door meetings in Vienna, Saudi oil minister Ali al-Naimi told OPEC members that OPEC had to combat the US fracking boom. If OPEC cut output to raise the price of oil, it would lose market share, he argued. The way to win would be to allow overproduction to depress prices to the point where they would destroy the profitability of North American producers. And they’d have to cut production, rather than OPEC.

The Golden Trap of Chess Master Vladimir Putin

Accusations of the West towards Putin traditionally are based on the fact that he worked in the KGB. And therefore he is a cruel and immoral person. Putin is blamed for everything. But nobody ever accused Putin of lack of intelligence.

Any accusations against this man only emphasize his ability for quick analytical thinking and making clear and balanced political and economic decisions.

Often Western media compares this ability with the ability of a grandmaster, conducting a public chess simul. Recent developments in US economy and the West in general allow us to conclude that in this part of the assessment of Putin’s personality Western media is absolutely right.

Hacked US Documents Said To Reveal Extent Of Undisclosed US "Lethal Aid" For Ukraine Army

It has been half a year since it was first revealed that the US has been sending non-lethal aid to the Ukraine: recall that it was in early June when Obama announced he had approved $5 million in body armor, night vision goggles and additional communications equipment for the Ukrainian military.

The Mistral Affair: Breach of Contract or Hostile Act?

On November 18th 2014 Sputnik news reported that the French government has denied access to the Russian training crew for the Mistral ship Vladivostok docked at St. Nazaire. The French Ministry of Defence denied knowledge of the action but their denial is in line with the French President’s continual habit of saying one thing and meaning another. The alarming question now has to be asked whether this is just a commercial breach of contract or a hostile act, because the French government has not just “failed” to deliver the first of the two Mistral ships contracted and paid for as the press reports state, it has refused to deliver them and will not unless certain conditions are met, political conditions, which have strategic importance for Russia and conditions that can never be met unless Russia surrenders its strategic position and its defence of the Ukrainians of the Donbass.

US Should Consider Lethal Aid to Ukraine, Says Obama Nominee

U.S. President Barack Obama's nominee to fill the number two post at the State Department says the White House should consider providing Ukraine with lethal, defensive military equipment.

Testifying Wednesday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Tony Blinken said that arming Ukraine's military could force Russia to rethink its role in the conflict gripping eastern Ukraine.

Both houses of Congress have voiced support for such aid, but the Obama administration has so far stopped short of providing lethal equipment.

The Kyiv government and a host of Western nations have accused Moscow of providing direct aid, including armor and other military hardware, to separatists. NATO also has accused Moscow - which annexed Ukraine's Crimea Peninsula in March - of sending more tanks and troops into eastern Ukraine in the past two weeks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Tony Blinken: it is obvious that either you completely do not understand the true narrative of what happened when Viktor Yushchenko was removed from power, in a Western, EU, ECB putsch which put Western-centric tycoon Poroshenko in control, or chosing to completely ignore it.

After the sacking of Ukraine's duly elected leadership, Crimea, which had been traditionally a part of Russia until it was annexed by Kruschev in the 50's, petitioned to become a part of the Russian Federation. The referendum, to achieve that end, was conducted under the presence of international observers, and considered to be free and fair.

Let us be clear here: Russia did not annex Crimea: Crimea requested to become a part of the Russian Federation.

The song lyrics from Sam Cooke's "Wonderful World", where he sings the line "don't know much about history" are cute, in the context of song: but sir, it worries me greatly your historical revisionism here could have some horrific implications for the future of this both this country and this planet.

Yes, I understand that the US government and Congress are slouching toward a military confrontation against Russia on a number of fronts; with Syria; with Iran, and with the Ukraine.

With these weapons, Prooshenko will, most probably, begin ordering heavy attacks in the Eastern Ukraine provinces which have broken away, and it will only be a matter of time before Russia feels it must act.

I would like to politely point out that at this time in its history, the US military does not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome against Russia in a military confrontation. And that, sir is what makes the miltary scenario so scarily dangerous.

And Mr. President: would it be humanly possible, please, to nominate someone for this position who is infinitely less eager to ultimately lead us on a path to war with Russia?!?

This Is What Is Really Taking Place Behind The Scenes Of The Second US-Russian Cold War

It appears John Kerry is at it again. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the US Secretary of State called on him to "pay no mind" to a statement by President Obama, in which Russia was included to a list of top global threats. Seeking Russia's cooperation in Iran and on the Korean Peninsula, Kerry told Lavrov to "forget about" what Obama said. As US foreign policy credibility dissolves, we leave it to Lavrov to conclude, "it is flippant," he jabs, "it’s not appropriate for a powerful country to have such a consumer attitude to its partners - where you’re needed, help us; where you’re not, obey us."

Webmaster's Commentary:

That is the result of a lack of a coherent foreign policy. The White House is purely reactive at this point, driven by events and lured on by goals which are often contradictory to each other. There is no real leadership in DC. It's just a town of opportunists carving out the largest slice possible for themselves and their backers.

FLASHBACK - The Latest Heist: US Quietly Snatches the Ukraine’s Gold Reserves

According to reports out of Kiev (see links below), the US has quietly transfers 33 tons of Ukrainian gold out of the country and back to vaults in the US. Presumably, this sovereign wealth transfer would be counted as partial “collateral” for a fresh round of IMF, US FED, and ECB paper debt that is currently being organised for dumping into the Ukraine’s economic black hole.

Multiple inquiries to US Federal Reserve administrators into the location of the Ukraine’s gold have been met with the proverbial ‘pass the buck’, making tracking and tracking the final resting place of these 33 tonnes very difficult indeed – but one can expect that the NY Fed is probably the institution who has masterminded this financial heist.

Here's What Really Happened at the G20 in Australia

So what did in fact happen at the G20 summit?

The short answer is that it was a shriller rerun of the ASEM summit in Milan.

The same line up of European leaders joined this time by the Australians and the Canadians (Obama and Putin barely met) tried once again to bully Putin into doing what they wanted in the Ukraine, believing on this occasion that the fall in oil prices and in the rouble would make him more amenable.

In order to drive the point home a media blitz of quite extraordinary intensity was also orchestrated.

To their collective bafflement and anger, Putin refused to move an inch.
