Irritated by Russia-Turkey Idlib Deal, US Ready to Undermine Syrian Settlement - Moscow

On 5 March, Moscow and Ankara clinched a ceasefire deal to stop an ongoing escalation between Turkish and Syrian forces in Idlib Province, and to establish joint military patrols in the area.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters on Friday that the US, which is frustrated over the Moscow-Ankara accord on the Idlib settlement, uses any pretext to promote anti-Russian hysteria.

She said that the Ministry has paid attention to “the intensification of contacts between American politicians and the quasi-humanitarian organisation White Helmets operating in Syria”.

“Such contacts usually end up with big problems in the region in the form of provocations and provocative actions. On 17 March, US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun met the White Helmets leader despite restrictions on contacts with foreigners introduced by the State Department in connection with the spread of the coronavirus", Zakharova said.

Russia's gold & near-zero debt give it best chance of thriving in post-coronavirus apocalypse – Max Keiser

The coronavirus pandemic has popped a quadrillion-dollar financial bubble and we can expect a very deep and prolonged period of adjustment, RT's veteran business commentator Max Keiser believes.

The financial crisis, which many believe we have just entered, stems from the times of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, with the establishment of 'neoliberal' policies "that enriched bankers and destroyed workers by giving bankers free reign to borrow and speculate without oversight or accountability," Keiser told RT. Now, governments will have to adjust to a new reality, and having a low debt and massive reserves could be the trump card, according to the former Wall Street stockbroker.

"Russia has the best hand at the geopolitical poker table. The Kremlin, for 20 years, has been doing the opposite of everyone else by reducing their national debt to near zero, and buying thousands of tons of gold while simultaneously raising living standards," he said.

The Inevitable Outcome Of The Oil Price War

In purely basic oil economics terms, Russia has a budget breakeven price of US$40 per barrel of Brent this year: Saudi’s is US $84. Russia can produce over 11 million barrels per day (mbpd) of oil without figuratively breaking sweat; Saudi’s average from 1973 to right now is just over 8 mbpd. Russia’s major oil producer, Rosneft, has been begging President Putin to allow it to produce and sell more oil since the OPEC+ arrangement was first agreed in December 2016; Saudi’s major oil producer, Aramco, only suffers value-destruction in such a scenario. This includes for those people who were sufficiently trusting of MbS to buy shares in Aramco’s recent IPO. Russia can cope with oil prices as low as US$25 per barrel from a budget and foreign asset reserves perspective for up to 10 years; Saudi can manage 2 years at most.

Pompeo and Netanyahu Paved a Path to War With Iran, and They’re Pushing Trump Again

by Gareth Porter Posted on March 21, 2020

The administration of President Donald Trump may escape the most recent conflict with Iran without war, however, a dangerous escalation is just over the horizon. And as before, the key factors driving the belligerence are not outraged Iraqi militia leaders or their allies in Iran, but Trump’s secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has long sought to draw the US into a military confrontation with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this push for war with Iran, under Trump's watch, will not end well.

Even though Iran is reeling from the effects of an horrific Covid 19 epidemic, not one single US-engineered sanction will be lifted, to speed the delivery of desperately needed drugs, food, and aid for this beleaguered country.

Right now, President Trump isn't looking at any attack on Iran's alleged "proxies" in Iran, because the optics would be awful; that, of course, is no guarantee that the Israeli intelligence, or military, hasn't got several "false flags" up their collective sleeves, to be "green lit" at the moment when Netanyahu needs "maximum coverage and distraction" away from his corruption trials, which began last Tuesday, 17 March Court Denies Request for Delays in Netanyahu's Corruption Trials

Netanyahu desperately needs a distraction here, and damned quickly; what better "distraction" than an alleged "Iranian attack" against either Israeli or US assets in the Middle East, to which President Trump would be "obligated to respond"?!?

But I would, very politely, like to mention (again) to all Foggy Bottomites (and their underlings, occasionally "cursed" with having to read this blog) that last Summer at a gathering in Moscow, a Moscow politician assured his Iranian counterparts that should Iran be attacked, it "would not be alone."
Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

The article goes on to state: "“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow.

When asked if Russia was ready to provide material support to Iran if the U.S. attacks it, Kabulov said that “specific actions are a question for the Russian president.”

“But it’s not just Russia, many other countries sympathize and empathize with Iran,” the Kommersant business daily quoted him as saying. “Tehran won’t be alone if the U.S., God forbid, takes wild and irresponsible actions against it.”

You can bet your sweet bippie, that Kabulov would never have made that statement, unless he had full, and completely supported, support from Putin to say it.

War with Russia over Iran?!?

Folks, please think about this; because the next time the Unhinged, Surveilled, State of Amerika re-introduces a draft, it will be not only becoming for your your sons, but also your daughters as well.

U.S. Oil Industry Could End Up Losing More Than 200,000 Jobs

With West Texas Intermediate below $30 a barrel and Saudi Arabia’s plans to keep pumping as much as it can for as long as it can, the U.S. oil industry is bracing for job losses that could end up in five-figure territory. “A sustained drop in oil prices would cost the sector 50,000-75,000 jobs if employment returned to its low from a few years ago,” the chief economist of PGIM Fixed Income, Nathan Sheets, told CNBC this week.

Trump To Intervene In Russia-Saudi Price War At "Appropriate Time" After Crude Hit $20

As Congressional voices and US oil companies have grown louder in urging President Trump to mount a muscular pushback against the Russians and Saudis flooding the market following their spat early this month that triggered an ongoing oil-price war — which lately witness crude falling to $20 yesterday — the administration has said it plans to get involved at "the appropriate time" and hopes to find a "middle ground". Trump said Thursday at a White House briefing: "They are in a fight on price, on output," and indicated that "At the appropriate time I will get involved."

Early this month the Saudis were caught completely off-guard when Putin said Russia would ignore Riyadh and OPEC+ plans to significantly cut production, effectively and dramatically overturning the balance of power in the oil world while declaring war on US shale, sending crude prices crashing and leaving dozens of American producers teetering on bankruptcy.

Lockheed Martin Releases Clip Of Simulated Attack On Russian Defense Systems

Leave it to a major US arms defense contractor to hype the "ever-evolving threats" to US national security in a new hugely provocative video at a time the world fights an "invisible enemy" - as world leaders are calling it - in the form of the Covid-19 panemic.

A new promotional video released by Lockheed Martin simulates what appears to be a major airstrike on Russian weaponry. Taking note of the promo which features CGI footage, Russian state media described it as a "simulated first strike on Russian positions and weapons systems."

Specifically Russia’s trademark S-400 anti-air systems are among the targets of Lockheed's own systems in the simulated portion of the video, all of which touts the comany's Advanced Development Programs, also known as Skunk Works, which is an elite group tasked with working with the Pentagon on the most advanced and secretive projects.

Watch: Lockheed Martin Uses Computer Graphics to Destroy Russia’s S-400s in New Promo

The clip, which heaps praise on the secretive Skunk Works division, notably features mostly computer-generated prototypes of aircraft, with the problematic F-35 fighter jet being the only already-existing model.

Lockheed Martin Corp has released a promotional video that appears to show a simulated airstrike on Russian weaponry.

More than halfway into the promo, CGI footage shows strikes by Lockheed’s planes on Russia’s trademark S-400 anti-air systems and a road-mobile Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile system, as the voice-over narrates about the “ever-evolving threats” to US security.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem with the way in which the US military buys weapons from its suppliers, is rife with corruption and controversy, and must change immediately, if the US is ever going to gain, and maintain, weapons superiority against Russia and China.

It is no secret that the companies creating hardware and software for America's weaponry, donate to both sides of the aisle, so that at the end of the day, no matter which candidates or parties dominate the White House, their products will still be chosen.

And unless these products are designed intelligently, brilliantly well, and honor the American people, by also being brilliantly cost-effective, they will have failed this country miserably.

What our military needs, but is terrified to ask for, are weapons which get delivered timely; doing what they are advertised to do, and with no huge cost over-runs. Russia and China have those kinds of relationships with their suppliers; this country does not.

And THIS has cost us, and will cost us, big-time in terms of defensive and offensive weapons which really work, unless and until that changes.

And I will assure you, that US weapons manufacturers very much like the situation just as it is, with their ability to deliver so late, as to render them obsolete in the field; create products which ultimately never work as originally advertised, and have cost-overruns from here to, literally, eternity.

Rockets Hit Iraq Base Housing US Troops South of Baghdad

Details are still emerging, but this was much fewer rockets than previous strikes, and so far there has been no word of any casualties in the incident. The US has threatened retaliation for further attacks, but no such strikes were yet reported.

Both sides have been hitting one another recently and talking up escalation. That this was a much smaller, casualty-free attack may suggest that the militias are trying to save face but not escalate the matter any further.

This would depend heavily on the US not looking to escalate further either, however, and all indications out of the administration are that they consider the Iraqi militias to be “Iranian proxies,” and are very keen to keep picking fights with them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As Americans are well and truly distracted (and to some reasonable degree, should be) with Covid-19; hand sanitizers; and bathroom tissue, the folks in Foggy Bottom which brought you the original Iraq War, are most probably about to bring you the Iraq/Iran War 2.0, complete with very probable Russian military assistance to the Iranians.

Madness, you say?!? Absolute madness, writ large, dear readers, particularly
when a Russian Official, meeting with some Iranian counterparts in a Moscow conference last Summer, assured them that if Iran was attacked, "it would not stand alone."

Iran Won't Be Alone, if the US Attacks. The article, from last June's Moscow Times, English Language Edition, goes on to state: "“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow.

Readers, career politicians like Kabulov do not even FART without Putin's approval; and this statement was just as much for American consumption as for the Iranian delegates attending; unfortunately, DC's lethal combination of a collective "tin ear", and general hubris, in light of the fact that the US has, ultimately, lost every war it has started since Vietnam, is not helping the situation.

Oh, and BTW, who, really, "won" the war in Iraq?!?

In short form, China. And why do I say this?!?

Take a look at the following headline, and see for yourself: Iraq signs contract with Chinese oil company to complete 80 wells in Iraq

You are probably looking at this headline, dated September 7th, 1999, foaming at the mouth, fulminating, and thinking, "why the hell were the American people not told about this?!?" It is simple; the Trump Administration didn't want you to know, so the story was suppressed in most English language papers.

Here are other articles about this, primarily from the foreign press, in English:

Iraq, China launch 'oil for reconstruction' agreement

OH, and WAIT: there's more from Reuters:

CORRECTED-China's CPECC wins $121 mln West Qurna-1 contract from Iraq

The US government is DESPERATE to prevent China from starting this development deal, so what are they going to do?!? They are going to create a situation so dangerous for the Chinese, that the risk/benefit ratio will make it "too difficult" for China to move ahead with this.

So, how will they do this?!?

By declaring "Iraq War 2.0", of course; unlike China, which very much likes to create deals to get what they want, the Foggy Bottomites will most likely declare a "national emergency", leading to yet more military conflict in Iraq, and potentially against Iran itself, from Iraq, no matter how much the Iraqi government protests, or the costs to the Iraqi and/or Iranian people.

The Coronavirus and the New World Order:“War is in the Air”"Time is out of joint..." – "Something is Rotten in the State of Denmark". William Shakespeare from his tragedy Hamlet

The worldwide fear of a hitherto unknown but supposedly highly contagious and weapons-grade virus means that many people feel paralysed, public life in several states is crippled by governments, at the same time fundamental civil liberties are “honed” or severely restricted and also the military is brought into readiness. What is going on here?

The former Soviet head of state Mikhail Gorbachev recently described the current political situation as extremely worrying. According to “Sputnik News” of 12.03.20 he wrote: “War is in the air.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

BUMP TO THE TOP

What concerns me most gravely right now, are statements from the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, regarding alleged "Iranian Paramilitary Activity", hitting the US's crumbling military stance in Iraq right now, where both the Iraqi people, and military, are demanding that the US military leave the country, and right the hell now.

We found this "little gem" in rt.com, their English language edition, yesterday: US will act in ‘self-defense’ if attacked in Iraq – Pompeo

The article went on to state: "Washington will act in “self-defense” in Iraq if its military comes under attack, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. US bases in Iraq have been repeatedly shelled recently and several servicemen have been killed and injured.

Pompeo told Iraqi PM Adil Abd al-Mahdi that Baghdad “must defend Coalition personnel supporting the Iraqi government's efforts to defeat ISIS,” the US Department of State said in a statement on Monday.

Those “responsible for the attacks must be held accountable,” the official warned, adding that Washington “will not tolerate attacks and threats to American lives” and will take “action as necessary in self-defense."

And right below that, we see the following headline: "Baghdad Summons US and British Envoys after condemning their strikes on Iraqi Targets as "violation of Sovereignty". The article goes on to state:

"Over the past week the US Camp Taji base, located north of Iraq’s capital, came under rocket shelling twice. On Wednesday, three soldiers, two from the US and one from the UK, were killed at the installation, while a dozen others were injured. Iraqi military personnel were affected by the attack as well.

While no one claimed responsibility for the deadly shelling, Washington was quick to blame Iraqi Shia militias for it and launched “retaliatory” airstrikes on them. Since said militias are an integral part of the Iraqi military, the US basically bombed its own allies, killing at least six servicemen and wounding several more."

So I have to ask; under what possible geopolitical circumstance, could this possibly make sense, in Pompeo's weltanschauung?!?

The answer becomes frighteningly real, from an except of the following article last year, in an interview Pompeo did, where he made the following statements, as recorded by bbcnews.com:;
Pompeo says God may have sent Trump to save Israel from Iran
The article goes on to state:

"US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said it is "possible" that President Donald Trump was sent by God to save Israel from Iran.

In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network during a high-profile trip to Israel, he said it was his faith that made him believe that.

He also praised US efforts to "make sure that this democracy in the Middle East, that this Jewish state, remains".

The comments came on a Jewish holiday celebrating rescue from genocide.

The holiday, Purim, commemorates the biblical rescue of the Jewish people by Queen Esther from the Persians, as the interviewer noted to Mr Pompeo.

What did Pompeo say?

He was asked if "President Trump right now has been sort of raised for such a time as this, just like Queen Esther, to help save the Jewish people from an Iranian menace".

"As a Christian, I certainly believe that's possible," said Mr Pompeo, a former member of Congress for Kansas and CIA director.

"I am confident that the Lord is at work here," he added."

OK, there you have it folks; to energize their evangelical base, a "faith-based" foreign policy has been put into play, which consistently demonizes Iran, and consistently characterises Israel as "the innocent party", in geopolitical affairs when most of the time, nothing could be further from the truth.

There's a phrase in DC, the originator of which I cannot recall at the moment, but it goes something like this; "Never let a good crisis go to waste"; now having said that, Covid 19, and its monumental spread, does comprise a health crisis of huge concern.

But please also note, today, in RT, there is a very serious article at the top of the blog with the following headline: US halts deployment & recalls troops from NATO’s biggest drill ‘Defender Europe 2020’ due to coronavirus threat

Sounds good, and reasonable, on the surface, doesn't it?!?

But what if there are other deployments to come for these military personnel, which may well not be announced beforehand?!?

I would like to politely speculate that these battles in Iraq against alleged "Iranian militia" at US Camp Taji base, and beyond, may well be only the "beginning here; the US government is flailing, in both Iraq, and in its Covid 19 response, and President Trump well knows that a combination of the wall-street melt-down with a "too-little too late" response to the pandemic, will most likely result in his 2020 candidacy going up in absolute flames, unless he "does something dramatic."

So please, do not bet that a war against Iran, and ultimately against Russia, which has declared their support for Iran should the US attack it (and publicly: Iran won't be alone if the US attacks it, says Russian official), is off the table for these people, particularly for Pompeo.

The world can't forget the fight for the Saudi crown amid virus panic: The political landscape is changing as the Covid-19 outbreak undermines Donald Trump and his allies, such as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

by Patrick Cockburn, theindependent.uk.co

The political consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic are already vast because its advance, and the desperate measures taken to combat it, entirely dominate the news agenda and will go on doing so for the foreseeable future, although it is in the nature of this unprecedented event that nothing can be foreseen.

History has not come to a full stop because of the virus, however: crucial events go on happening, even if they are being ignored by people wholly absorbed by the struggle for survival in the face of a new disease. Many of these unrecognised but very real crises are taking place in the Middle East, the arena where great powers traditionally stage confrontations fought out by their local proxies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, Patrick; let's not forget one very critical factoid, which you painfully and awkwardly attempted to camouflage by omission, in that last bit regarding Iraq's invasion of Kuwait:

[Congressional Record: January 26, 2011 (House)]
[Page H503]
HOW THE 20-YEAR WAR STARTED

The article went on to state: " Mr. PAUL. Mr. Speaker, how did the 20-year war get started? It had
been long assumed that the United States Government, shortly before
Iraq invaded Kuwait in August of 1990, gave Saddam Hussein a green
light to attack. A State Department cable recently published by
WikiLeaks confirmed that U.S. Ambassador April Glaspie did indeed have
a conversation with Saddam Hussein one week prior to Iraq's August 1,
1990, invasion of Kuwait. Amazingly, the released cable was entitled,
``Saddam's Message of Friendship to President Bush.'' In it, Ambassador
Glaspie affirmed to Saddam that ``the President had instructed her to
broaden and deepen our relations with Iraq.'' As Saddam Hussein
outlined Iraq's ongoing border dispute with Kuwait, Ambassador Glaspie
was quite clear that, ``we took no position on these Arab affairs.''
There would have been no reason for Saddam Hussein not to take this
assurance at face value. The U.S. was quite supportive of his invasion
and war of aggression against Iran in the 1980s. With this approval
from the U.S. Government, it wasn't surprising that the invasion
occurred. The shock and surprise was how quickly the tables were turned
and our friend, Saddam Hussein, all of a sudden became Hitler
personified.
The document was classified, supposedly to protect national security,
yet this information in no way jeopardized our security. Instead, it
served to keep the truth from the American people about an event
leading up to our initial military involvement in Iraq and the region
that continues to today.

{time} 1440

The secrecy of the memo was designed to hide the truth from the
American people and keep our government from being embarrassed.
This was the initial event that had led to so much death and
destruction--not to mention the financial costs--these past 20 years."

This is something which can no longer be ignored by either the American people, or the world, sir.

And to President Trump, sir, a word; your proclivity for liking the company of dictators who can "get away with" murder (literally, like Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Bin Salman, and never having to face the consequences), is something of which the American people are growing painfully tired.

Getting US troops out of Yemen, where they are enabling Saudi war crimes in that country, would be one of the most practically intelligent things you could do right now, but I am betting you won't, simply because of what could be characterized by "Imperial Hubris."

Please, have someone look up the words I have just typed, and break them down for you, simply.

Between the stock-market selloff, coupled with your lackluster Covid 19 scare response, your re-election, which seemed a safe bet several months ago, is now thrown open for question, and the challenge by your would-be Democratic contender, Joe Biden, whose mental faculties seem to be sorely, and publicly, tested by this campaign, is gaining pace.

And while there are moments when I worry about your desire to throw weapons at the bad guy (whoever the "bad guy du jure" is), I cringe to think that it might possibly be a President Biden with his hands around the nuclear football.

Putin Unleashes Strategic Hell on the U.S.

I am an avid board game player. I’m not much for the classics like chess or go, preferring the more modern ones. But, regardless, as a person who appreciates the delicate balance between strategy and tactics, I have to say I am impressed with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s sense of timing.

Because if there was ever a moment where Putin and Russia could inflict maximum pain on the United States via its Achilles’ heel, the financial markets and its unquenchable thirst for debt, it was this month just as the coronavirus was reaching its shores.

Like I said, I’m a huge game player and I especially love games where there is a delicate balance between player power that has to be maintained while it’s not one’s turn. Attacks have to be thwarted just enough to stop the person from advancing but not so much that they can’t help you defend on the next player’s turn.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have always seen Putin as a master chess player on the geopolitical stage, and no where did this become more apparent than his economic moves last week; unfortunately, the guy is generally 40 moves ahead of the entire US government, and that.... is a problem for the US government.

US now openly admits its goal in Syria is to make it 'difficult' for Moscow and Damascus to defeat terrorists

The State Department’s special envoy for Syria has just admitted that the US aims to defend jihadist militants in Idlib against ‘Russian aggression,’ proving once again that the swamp in Foggy Bottom is alive and well.
Russia and the Syrian government “are out to get a military victory in all of Syria,” Ambassador James Jeffrey told reporters on a conference call out of Brussels on Tuesday.

Our goal is to make it very difficult for them to do that by a variety of diplomatic, military, and other actions.

To illustrate these methods, Jeffrey cited the US threat to respond “in a very savage military way” against any chemical attacks, which he described as “a favorite tactic of the Syrian regime in making advances.” This is factually untrue, since the alleged attacks always happen after Syrian Army victories, as a pretext for US intervention.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hearing the consistent hissings of US government lying is enough to make me physically ill; but Jeffries is near the competitive "gold" for describing the reality that the US hires, trains, arms, and funds terrorists, to keep the Russians and Syrian government from winning this war.

I would like to politely remind him, that payback for this kind of public lying, and the actions it can attempt to justify, can be a real bear.

The Ukraine: Things Fall Apart

Volodymyr Zelensky used to play a school teacher on a hit Ukrainian TV show called "Servant of the People." The premise was simple: a video goes viral of the teacher sounding off about corruption and, before you know it, he’s elected president. The program did so well that Zelensky formed a political party called "Servant of the People," ran for president against incumbent Petro Poroshenka, and won election by a margin of three to one – not on TV, but for real. Evidently, life imitates art so perfectly in the Ukraine that it’s sometimes hard to tell where one begins and the other leaves off.

US Nukes Reportedly Delivered To Poland

In order to prevent the conflict in the region to be nuclear, USA decided to take the nukes out of Turkey. The fact of taking the ammunition out of the country was widely discussed in Turkish media.

The media informed that five C-17A Globemasters III arrived to Incerlik AB from Ramstein Air Base and took the whole bulk of nukes out to Germany, Poland and one of the Baltic States.

An official in the Air Mobility Command who wished to remain anonymous said that the nuclear ammunition had already been delivered to Powidz, Poland in early March 2020.

In this way the tensions are to rise in Europe: the biggest US maneuvers in Europe, more nukes– that can provoke reactions from Russia.

Moscow has already warned that Russian government would take responsive measures to an upcoming, massive U.S. military deployment and U.S.-led exercises across multiple European states bordering Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, just because something is the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid thing the US government could ever do, is no guarantee that it will not do just that, which is one of the most frightening aspects of US foreign policy; and right now, looking at the Turkish and Russian positions in Syria, this could potentially devolve into all-out war, as both Turkey and the US are sister NATO countries, and the US (and Israel) want Al Assad's government crushed to smithereens in Damascus.

Autarky Economics

Putin is aiming for a limited form of autarky to protect Russia against the west. This is the Britannica version and they don't like autarky. The USA used to practice a limited form of autarky with tariffs that raised money for the federal government. Before the War of Northern Aggression, the South paid most of the tariffs and the Morill tariff which tariffed outgoing Southern raw material was the last straw. The NWO boys can't be too happy with Vladimir Putin. They hate autarky and self sufficient countries.

Putin's Crude Revenge

Last week, OPEC called on Russian oil companies to lower production in response to reduced demand from China and a Eurozone bound for recession. They said no.

Just like that, oil took a nosedive, losing 25% of its value on Monday. The price of a barrel of oil closed at $33 dollars, compared to $45 late last week.

For the last decade, America's rise as an oil exporting power thanks to the expensive shale exploiting process has allowed neocons to cripple the economies of Venezuela, Iran and Russia.

‘Western ideologists will go crazy’: Putin leaves door open to run for president again

Speaking to the Russian parliament Tuesday, Vladimir Putin argued that stable leadership is good for a country in turbulent times but does it mean we'll really see him in power beyond 2024.

Putin said Tuesday that he will seek a new term when his current one is up “only if it’s approved by the Constitutional Court and if citizens support such a proposal” when they vote for constitutional amendments on April 22.

He addressed the issue during a speech in parliament after MP and the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova, called for his tenure to be reset so that he would be eligible for two more runs before being subject to the new restrictions, envisaged by the amendments.

The changes to Russia's principal law, among other things, include redistributing some powers away from the president to the parliament, banning state officials from having foreign citizenship and setting the minimum wage above the basic cost of living.

In Crashing the Oil Price, Russia Just Told the World, 'No!'

There is real power in the word “No.”

In fact, I’d argue that it is the single most powerful word in any language.

In the midst of the worst market meltdown in a dozen years which has at its source problems within global dollar-funding markets, Russia found itself in the position to exercise the Power of No.

Multiple overlapping crises are happening worldwide right now and they all interlock into a fabric of chaos.

Between political instability in Europe, presidential primary shenanigans in the U.S., coronavirus creating mass hysteria and Turkey’s military adventurism in Syria, the eastern Mediterranean and Libya, markets are finally calling the bluff of central bankers who have been propping up asset prices for years.

Russia’s Rejection of OPEC+ Was the Result of Cold Geostrategic Calculations

The world is still trying to figure out why Russia rejected its OPEC+ partners’ request late last week to further curtail its oil production next month, with this surprise decision prompting the Saudis to wage their oil price war that’s since crashed the price of this indispensable resource and caused panic across the global economy. The prevailing theory is that Moscow sought to simultaneously take down its American shale rivals while chipping away at some of Riyadh’s gradually declining market share, timing its move to coincide with the US’ campaign season and Saudi Arabia’s continued political uncertainty for maximum effect. That explanation is indeed plausible but focuses almost entirely on Russia’s economic motivations, leaving out what the author believes are the crucial geostrategic ones that actually played a much larger role in this decision than most observers have yet to realize.

Don't Be Fooled By The Oil Price Rebound

Russian Scientists Discover Previously Unknown Property of Ceramics

Scientists at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) have discovered a previously unknown physical effect, which significantly increases the control capabilities of ceramics. According to the authors of the study, their findings can be used to develop new types of ceramics with improved performance.

The TPU scientists have discovered that after treating alumina ceramics with high-energy ion beams, their structural properties change at depths exceeding ion penetration depth. A similar phenomenon – the so-called long-range effect – was previously observed only when irradiating metals.

“We’ve found that structural-phase changes in ceramics occur at depths hundreds of times greater than ion penetration depth. There is still no definite explanation for this effect; there’re still heated discussions regarding the phenomenon,” Sergey Gyngazov, Professor at the TPU Control and Diagnostics Department, said.

Good on the TPU scientists; this discovery may well change the way industrial ceramics are created forever!!

BREAKING: US Envoy to Syria: If Moscow, Damascus Violate Idlib Ceasefire, Washington, European Allies Will Respond, Possibly With Sanctions

An almost decade-long war armed conflict in Syria is drawing to a close, with the northwesten Idlib province being the last major bastion held the rebels. Fighting there escalated in recent weeks after Turkey, a NATO member, intervened in the region to slow Bashar al-Assad's advance.

The United States would respond with unspecified measures and sanctions if Russia or Syria violated the recently-agreed ceasefire in Idlib, James Franklin Jeffrey, the US special envoy for Syria, told reporters in Brussels on Tuesday.

The envoy did not elaborate on whether any action would be taken if Turkey is the side that breaks the ceasefire deal.

He did not rule out assisting Turkey in Idlib within NATO framework, including supplying missile defence systems.

“We are looking what NATO can do, all options on the table,” Jeffrey replied when asked whether the US was considering supplying the Patriot systems.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Envoy Jeffrey, I am having a palm to forehead moment, upon reading this, at warp speed.

Neither Russia nor Syria have been abusing what ceasefire exists here; it has been Turkey and the US which have been doing this, consistently.

But seriously, war with Russia over Syria and the current Syria government?!?

Are flipping kidding me, and my brother and sister Americans, with this threatened codswallop?!?

How Saudi Arabia is trying to CRIPPLE Russian oil industry by flooding world market and dropping price to 30-year low in fight over coronavirus that could hit Trump's re-election hopes by triggering US recession

Saudi Arabia slashed its oil export prices over the weekend and declared a price war with Russia that sent global markets reeling and marked the sharpest decline in oil futures since 1991.

The price drop came after Russia refused to sign on with a proposal by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to cut production globally as the coronavirus outbreak has slowed the demand for oil.

OPEC nations met with allies like Russia on Thursday and Friday in Vienna to reduce oil production by an additional 1.5million barrels per day to stabilize the market starting in April through the end of the year.

But Russia refused to join to agreement.

The city government of Moscow has as of Sunday imposed a “high alert regime” of mandatory self-quarantine for those that have recently visited foreign countries with an infected population. The penalty for such designated citizens if they leave their homes and break the quarantine is up to five years in jail, Moscow city hall has threatened.

And now, Bloomberg has the stunning backstory behind Friday's announcement that Russia is quitting its output deal with OPEC and its allies, after last week's Vienna summit meant to back a proposal by oil producers to cut output collapsed, causing a 10% plunge in oil prices, with some markets seeing their biggest one-day falls since the financial crisis.

Numerous times before in Astana and Sochi, Erdogan agreed to establish a demilitarized zone in Idlib province Syria, free from jihadists.

Entrepreneurial Russians looking to make a quick buck out of coronavirus fears are out of luck. Following concerns about stocks of medical supplies, the government has stepped in to thwart those trying to profit from the panic.

As the worldwide death toll now stands above 3,000, the Russian Ministry of Trade has temporarily prohibited the export of certain items, such as masks and protective suits, as the country seeks to keep the infection contained.

The ban, detailed on the website of the cabinet of ministers, covers a wide range of medical equipment ranging from bandages, to shoe covers, to disinfectant. The new rules will not affect supplies crossing the border for personal use or humanitarian aid, and will last until June 1. It comes on the same day that Germany introduced similar measures.

Of course it’s coincidence: Kremlin spokesman denies trolling Erdogan with bronzework of Russo-Turkish war

Some believe the Kremlin wanted to rattle Turkey’s President by placing him next to a work of art depicting a crushing Ottoman defeat at the hands of the Russians, but Vladimir Putin's spokesman says it was pure coincidence.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Moscow on Thursday to discuss with the Russian President ways to deescalate tensions in Syria’s Idlib province. When Putin and his guest were briefing the media, a clock was visible on the mantelpiece behind their backs. The instrument is decorated with a bronze group sculpture called ‘Crossing the Balkans’.

Made by artist Eugene Lanceray in 1880, the work shows Russian troops crossing over the Balkan Mountains during the Russian-Turkish war a few years prior. The war, incidentally, ended in a humiliating defeat for the Ottomans, who lost control over large swathes of their Balkan territories.

Moscow declares HIGH ALERT over coronavirus threat, imposes mandatory self-quarantines & workplace health checks

Health authorities in Russia’s capital have imposed a state of “high alert” and a series of new measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, directing anyone returning from virus-stricken locales to self-isolate.
Returnees from trips abroad – namely from China, Iran, South Korea, Germany, France, Italy and Spain – have been asked to relay details of their travel to health officials, and to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days, according to a decree published on the Moscow mayor’s website on Thursday. That means forgoing work, studies and limiting visits to public places.

Turkish Army Posts in Syria’s Idlib Merge With Rebel Positions: Russia says Turkey is violating past deals on Idlib

Turkish-backed Islamist rebels in Northern Syria’s Idlib Province have been getting more and more aid from Turkey to fight against the Syrian government. They are looking for direct Turkish backing by embedding closer and closer to Turkish Army posts. At this point, they’ve effectively merged.

This makes sense for the rebels to do, because having Syria attack al-Qaeda doesn’t look like a problem, but having Syria attack the Turkish military does. Making it less clear which is which ensures that every Syrian military operation is vilified.

Russian officials were critical of this tactic, saying Turkey was violating obligations they’d established in previous deals over Idlib, particularly deals when all those Turkish Army posts were established. This was done specifically so Turkey didn’t do exactly what they’re doing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How ever this is happening, it does not auger well for peace; for the Syrian people, and for its government.

Russia says Turkey trying to push 130,000 refugees from Syria into Greece - Interfax

Russia on Tuesday said that Turkey was trying to push 130,000 refugees from Syria into Greece, the Interfax news agency cited the Defence Ministry as saying.

The two thirds of these refugees - that Turkey is pushing from temporary camps in Syria - are Afghans, Iraqis and Africans, not Syrians, it added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What Turkey is attempting to do here, is "weaponize" refugees by having them pour into Europe, as "blackmail" for NATO not supporting Turkish military misadventures in Syria; and NATO wants no part of a fight against Russia for Syrian territory.

Erdogan’s Dance of Death With NATO

Although the evidence is murky, it appears that both Russian and Syrian jet fighters took part in the Feb. 27 attack on a Turkish mechanized infantry battalion consisting of roughly 400 soldiers. According to an account in Al-Monitor, two Syrian Sukhoi SU-22 pounded the convoy, forcing the troops to take cover. But then a pair of Russian Sukhoi SU-34s dropped advanced laser-guided bunker-buster bombs on two roadside buildings where Turkish forces had taken shelter, burying them in the rubble.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And the US government has responded accordingly, according to an article in msn.com, datelined today:U.S. promises Turkey ammunition for Syria's Idlib battle

U.S. promises Turkey ammunition for Syria's Idlib battle

It’s been a dramatic few days in Syria. The Syrian Army pushed across Idlib Province to retake major strongholds of Al-Qaeda-linked jihadists who have controlled the region for years thanks to support from Turkey.

This provoked a major escalation from Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Major offensives by the jihadists, backed by Turkish armor and air power, pushed back the Syrian army from the outskirts of Idlib city and took back the town of Saraqib at the confluence of the M4 and M5 highways which are of major strategic importance.

Erdogan warns Europe to expect ‘millions’ of migrants after Turkey opens borders

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned on Monday that "millions" of migrants would soon head for Europe, drawing accusations from EU leaders that he is trying to pressure them into backing his incursions into Syria.

Turkey gave the green light to refugees and migrants on Friday to leave for the European Union and thousands have since massed at the Greek border, triggering fears of an influx like that which poisoned European politics in 2015.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel described Turkey's move as "unacceptable" and EU migration commissioner Margaritis Schinas said nobody could "blackmail or intimidate the EU".

But Turkey, which hosts roughly four million refugees, is trying to hold off another mass influx from Syria – where government forces backed by Russian air power are advancing into the last rebel stronghold of Idlib.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Europe is singularly unprepared for this flood of immigrants, and has no cohesive way to stop them, save assassination at the borders, which is hardly likely.

But the real problem here, is the reality that Russia and Turkey are closer to war over Syria, than they have ever been before; ad US and European/NATO fire-power to the mix, and we have a recipe for disaster.

As NATO is a partner with Turkey, this makes the possibility of an intense US/NATO incursion into Syria, a lot more real than it has been before.
And we also have a companion piece, also from antiwar.com, with the following headline: Threat of a US and Russian Nuclear War Is Now at Its Greatest Since 1983
The article goes on to state: "When the Commander of NATO says he is a fan of flexible first strike at the same time that NATO is flexing its military muscle on Russia’s border, the risk of inadvertent nuclear war is real.

US Air Force Gen. Tod D. Wolters told the Senate this week he “is a fan of flexible first strike” regarding NATO’s nuclear weapons, thereby exposing the fatal fallacy of the alliance’s embrace of American nuclear deterrence policy.

It was one of the most remarkable yet underreported exchanges in recent Senate history. Earlier this week, during the testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee of General Tod Wolters, the commander of US European Command and, concurrently, as the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (SACEUR) also the military head of all NATO armed forces, General Wolters engaged in a short yet informative exchange with Senator Deb Fischer, a Republican from the state of Nebraska.

Following some initial questions and answers focused on the alignment of NATO’s military strategy with the 2018 National Defense Strategy of the US, which codified what Wolters called “the malign influence on behalf of Russia” toward European security, Senator Fischer asked about the growing recognition on the part of NATO of the important role of US nuclear deterrence in keeping the peace. “We all understand that our deterrent, the TRIAD, is the bedrock of the security of this country,” Fischer noted. “Can you tell us about what you are hearing…from our NATO partners about this deterrent?”

Wolters responded by linking the deterrence provided to Europe by the US nuclear TRIAD with the peace enjoyed on the European continent over the past seven decades. Fischer asked if the US nuclear umbrella was “vital in the freedom of NATO members”; Wolters agreed. Remarkably, Wolters linked the role of nuclear deterrence with the NATO missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere outside the European continent. NATO’s mission, he said, was to “proliferate deterrence to the max extent practical to achieve greater peace.”

Then came the piece de resistance of the hearing. “What are your views, Sir,” Senator Fischer asked, “of adopting a so-called no-first-use policy. Do you believe that that would strengthen deterrence?”

General Wolters’ response was straight to the point. “Senator, I’m a fan of flexible first-use policy.”

I don't know if that statement scares any one of you as much as it does me, but right now, my hair is standing straight up in the back... and breakdancing,

Translation from Bloombergese into English; "I will allow Israeli full, unfettered and free rein to "play picador" in the Middle East, until it gets into a fight it cannot win on its own, and then expend American troops to clean up after Israel, no matter the cost in blood and money!

And hey, invading Iran, even if Russia has pledged to support it in the case of a US invasion of it, Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If the U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Saysis no big deal!!"

Mayor Bloomberg, a word, please; there are moments when US and Israeli objectives align in the Middle East, and times when they most assuredly do NOT align; this last, and thoroughly irresponsible statement, indicates to both American voters, and the rest of the world, that you are hard-pressed to understand the difference here, and are infinitely more inclined to support Israel, no matter if it is completely wrong in its premise to wage whatever wars they feel are critical, at any given point in time, than supporting an even-handed approach to the region's politics.

THE NOBILITY OF TULSI GABBARD

SOURCE: W.J.ASTORE VIA BRACINGVIEWS.COM
In the South Carolina primary won on Saturday by Joe Biden, Tulsi Gabbard earned only 1.3% of the vote. Her poor showing was due in part to her outcast status among the Democratic establishment joined by mainstream media outlets like MSNBC and CNN.

Speaking of CNN, I caught a few minutes of coverage over the weekend during which its commentators confessed they couldn’t understand why Tulsi was still running. One person (Anderson Cooper, the weasel) suggested she was angling for a job with Fox News.

Of course, Tulsi’s principled opposition to regime-change wars and other disastrous U.S. foreign policy decisions went unmentioned. When her name is mentioned by the corporate-owned media, it’s usually in the context of the candidate most likely to succeed – in Russia.

By running in the election, Tulsi Gabbard continues to make an invaluable contribution:

Webmaster's Commentary:

This woman may well go down in history, as one of the most principled candidates in the 2020 race; that is why she was knocked out of contention, because she is no warmonger, and doesn't believe that the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika needs these endless wars to keep it alive and well.

"Russia for Russians" to be Written Into the Constitution

It was always a longshot.

But the Russians who believed that ethnic Russians should have some official status within their putative country persevered. The Russians who believed that Russians, who constitute 85% of Russia’s citizens, are not inferior to and do not deserve any less than Jews, who proclaim Israel to be the Jewish State even though Jews make up only 75% of Israeli citizens, persevered. The Russians who wanted their country to follow in the footsteps of the post-Communist East European mainstream, where nationally-minded governments from Hungary to Poland have rewritten their Constitutions to prioritize God, traditional values, and their own people, persevered.

Pompeo Wants Missiles for Turkey… To Confront Russia in Syria

When Turkey found itself in a bit of trouble in Idlib, Syria last week – a Syrian army advance had taken back much of the province and a Syrian air force strike had killed Turkish soldiers embedded with jihadist fighters – Ankara signaled to Washington that it needed help, including Patriot Missile batteries on Turk soil. The response was cool from the Pentagon, but Pompeo’s State Department is all for it – even if it means war with Russia and Iran. On today’s Ron Paul Liberty Report

Turkey in Syria: Down a Blind Alley in an Unwinnable War?

Turkish Forces Will Leave Syria – One Way or Another

Turkish troops will not be able to remain indefinitely in Syria. Their proxies will eventually be liquidated and the positions of Turkish forces surrounded by Syrian forces. In many areas of Idlib this is already the case. Additional Turkish troops and supplies fed into losing battles and what is ultimately a lost war will only delay the inevitable undoing of Turkish interests in Syria.

Ankara could – on the other hand – begin aligning its policies with the reality of what is happening in Idlib and expand its cooperation with Russia and Iran regarding the Syrian conflict – incrementally withdrawing support from militant groups, encouraging them to disarm and surrender, and gradually handing over Turkish positions within Syria to the actual military, government, and people of Syria.

Russia Can't Guarantee Safety of Turkish Aviation in Syria After Damascus Shuts Idlib Airspace

As tensions run high in Syria’s Idlib after Thursday's spike in hostilities, the Syrian state news agency SANA reported on Sunday that the "Turkish regime's terrorist forces" downed two aircraft - thought to be fighter jets - belonging to the Damascus forces.

The Russian Defence Ministry announced on Sunday that it could no longer guarantee the safety of Turkish aircraft flying over northern Syria, after Damascus moved to close the airspace over the embattled province of Idlib.

Damascus announced earlier on Sunday that it would treat any aircraft that crosses into the airspace of Syria’s northwest as a hostile target.

In Call With Erdogan, Trump Backs Turkey on Syria

President Trump had a call with Turkey’s President Erdogan on Friday, and according to White House officials, Trump backed Turkey absolutely in Syria, demanding Syria and Russia immediately halt their offensive in Idlib Province.

The White House comments again presented Turkey’s operations as trying to “de-escalate the situation in northwest Syria,” when it would be more correct to say they are trying to keep Islamist groups from being defeated outright by the Syrian government.

US rejected key talks on extending soon-to-expire treaty that limits strategic nuclear arms – Russia

The US has declined an invitation to hold a formal meeting to discuss the legal details of extending the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), which is due to expire in a year, a senior Russian diplomat has said.

Washington has decided to ditch important talks on the bilateral treaty's fate, the Deputy Director of the Foreign Ministry's Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Department, Vladimir Leontyev, told a strategic arms-themed event in the Russian parliament on Thursday.

We offered a meeting between our legal experts to make sure that we're on the same page and to negotiate a common understanding of the technical side of the extension [of the treaty], but a few days ago the Americans officially declined that offer.

Russia Deploys Elite ‘Hellduck’ Bombers for Strikes on Jihadists as Clashes in Idlib Escalate

The Russians have deployed several warships carrying Kaliber Cruise Missiles off the coast of Syria the past couple of days and these planes too.

Amid escalating clashes in Syria’s Idlib province, which have seen Turkey providing considerable armaments and direct fire support to a range of jihadist militias on the ground, the Russian Air Force has deployed its elite Su-34 ‘Hellduck’ strike fighters for attacks on militant positions.

Turkey is set to invade Syria along a 900 km front.

A Syrian friend is telling us that his sources in Syria are telling him that Turkey is preparing to invade Syria along it entire border at various points. The Russian and entire Syrian military are on high alert. Unless somebody dissuades Erdogan all hell may break loose. 2 days ago the Russians moved several surface warships near Syria and the are carrying scores of Kaliber missiles. Things are gonna get ugly. Got my ear to the ground. I hope the Russians talk him out of it.

Turkey Asks NATO to Join Its War Against Syria and Russia

Note: The events that led to this critical impasse were reported by me last night, and that report thus continues here, in order to provide context to these events.

The spokesperson for the Islamist party of Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan has called upon all of NATO to go to war against Syria for Syria’s having killed dozens of Turkey’s troops in order for Syria to defeat Turkey’s invasion and military occupation of Syria’s Idlib Province, which borders on Turkey. Going to war against Syria would mean going to war also against Russia, which is in Syria to protect Syria’s sovereignty over its own territory. If the United States accepts that Turkish proposal, then World War III will consequently result.

SYRIA - DEADLY BOMB STRIKE WARNS TURKEY TO END ITS ESCAPADES

SOURCE: MOON OF ALABAMA
The last three days of the Idleb campaign were quite eventful.

The Turkey supported Jihadis threw everything they had against Saraqib where the M4 and M5 highways join. This enabled the Syrian army to take some 40 towns and cities at the southern front. The whole Ghab plain is now in liberated and the frontline has been massively shortened.

Saraqib fell to the Jihadis but they paid a very bloody price for it as the Syrian and Russian air force continued to intensively bomb the approaches to the city. A new defensive line has now been established around Saraqib and the Syrian army is preparing to recover it.

To take the large area in the south in difficult terrain and against little resistance was more important than the temporary loss of Saraqib.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to hope and pray that someone besides Erdogan, in Ankara, is reading the tea leaves here, and understands - fully - what has to happen, which is a total and complete withdrawal of Turkish troops from Syria, and as immediately as humanly possible.

Angering Russia in this way was one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid things Erdogan could have done here, to the point where Moscow believed that the only remedy for Turkey's aggression, was a retaliation of this magnitude.

I would like to hope (and pray) that Edrogan is capable of learning from his mistakes, but am unsure how this will translate into Turkey's future policy on Syria and Russia.

Turkish military carries out massive attack against Syrian Army

Putin is a day late and a ruble short. The Man has repeatedly let the terrorists and their sponsor Turkey off the hook! Very weak!

BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:25 P.M.) – The Turkish military carried out a massive attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) last night, as their drones and ground forces launched several strikes on the government’s positions in the Latakia, Hama, Aleppo, and Idlib governorates.

Even NATO is unwilling to touch Turkey’s Idlib mess with a ten-foot pole

Having been hit by the Syrian Air Force in Idlib, Turkey has called on NATO’s protection, but as much as the alliance would like a fight with Assad and his ally Russia, it’s refused to back Ankara’s questionable adventure.
Turkey engaged NATO in Article 4 consultations, seeking help regarding the crisis in Syria. The meeting produced a statement from NATO condemning the actions of Russia and Syria and advocating for humanitarian assistance, but denying Turkey the assistance it sought.

A failed gamble

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is painfully obvious, that Erdogan did not due his "due dilligence" with NATO, of which Turkey is a member, to sound out potential support for this military misadventure, which is on track to be one of the most miserable epic fails in Turkey's contemporary history, before he decided to send in troops.

The next Turkish Parliamentary elections are scheduled in about 3 years from now. Turkish General Elections Scheduled for 2023.

IF Edrogan keeps writing geopolitical checks his military is unable to cash, this pathologically "bad behaviour" on his part may well sour the Turkish electorate on him; cause the voting public to go back to a Parliamentary system of elections; and find someone else who will care enough about the Turkish people and its military to not put them in harm's way like this.

And now, we have a related story, from rt.com, with the following headline:
Turkey & Syria on brink of WAR in Idlib: How did it come to this?

I am hoping (and praying) that Russia's collective general level head will continue to prevail, but it all depends on how hard Erdogan, and his military, are willing to push back here.

Erdogan has been very much behaving like the human version of a loose cannon, ever since the 2016 attempted coup in Turkey; I am seriously hoping that there has got to be a point, where he has to realize what harm he is bringing to both his people, and his military; but in looking at his current behaviour, relative to Syria, I am not so certain that we are going to see a change in the behaviour which brought Turkey into Syria in the first place.

US Defences Are Incapable of Intercepting Russian, Chinese Missiles, Navy Admiral Admits

The statement was made during a hearing devoted to the US plans to modernise American weapons and to possible ways the US can respond to the new cutting-edge weapons Russia rolled out in last two years.

US Navy Admiral Charles Richard has admitted that existing American air defences were not designed to counter modern hypersonic glide weapons, like the one recently deployed by Russia, and currently developed by China, and hence these weapons "challenge" the US, during an open hearing at the US House Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. He added that the Pentagon even has trouble determining the capabilities of modern weapons, although it still can make a reliable guess on what threat these weapons pose.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So let me get my head wrapped around this; for all the money spent, the US military is still behind the proverbial 8-ball when it comes to weapons development which should be AT LEAST a step ahead of what Russia and China are producing right now?!?

For all the money US taxpayers have forked out to prevent this, it is still, apparently, happening; there should be a public hearing as to why this has happened, and the heads of those companies which have screwed US taxpayers out of the best weapons systems in the world (which we should, absolutely, have by now, with what has been spent on these systems) should be hard time in a non-club Fed prison for a form of treason against the people of the US, not to mention its military.

Draconian?!? Absolutely.

But it will possibly "cure the problem"?!?

I strongly believe that the short answer is, "HELL, yes!!"

Turkey-Russia Tensions Soar After Deadly Syria Strike

The leaders of Russia and Turkey held crisis talks Friday after 33 Turkish soldiers died in a regime air strike in Syria, prompting President Donald Trump to urge an end to the Moscow-backed Syrian offensive against rebel holdouts.

The attack by Syrian forces took place late Thursday in the northwestern province of Idlib, where President Bashar al-Assad is waging a fierce campaign to oust rebels from their last stronghold.

Trump "condemned" the attack on Turkey's troops and joined his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in calling jointly on Russia and Syria to "halt" the Idlib operation, the White House said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word please, just in case your "kitchen cabinet" failed to inform you; Idlib is sovereign Syrian territory, which the Syrian and Russian governments are working to take back from foreign -sponsored terrorists, like those Turkey has been supporting, training, funding, and arming.

The country absoflippinglutely in the wrong here, is Turkey,; not Syria, and not Russia; I do not know why you have a problem keeping this fact straight, but it appears that you very much do have a problem, keeping this fact straight.

Turkey needs to leave immediately, to ratchet down tensions here.

Britain bought a record amount of Russian gold last year, spending over $5 BILLION

According to customs data seen by RBC business news outlet, gold exports to Britain have grown more than 12 times in terms of value, to $5.33 billion.

Supplies to the UK accounted for 93 percent of all Russian gold exports. Twelve other countries, including Kazakhstan and Switzerland, bought only $409 million-worth of Russian gold.

In physical terms, gold exports from Russia to the United Kingdom in 2019 increased 11 times, from 10.4 tons to 113.5 tons.

Almost the entire volume of deliveries to the UK is gold bullion. Taking into the account the London standard (an ingot weighing about 12.5 kg), it turns out that Russia delivered at least 9,000 ingots to the UK last year.
