German Ebola Aid Plane Grounded

A German military transport plane delivering medical aid to Ebola-stricken regions spent the weekend grounded by technical problems in the Canary Islands, further highlighting the country's poor state of military readiness.

Coming less than a week after a leaked government report to lawmakers showed that some of the German military's oldest hardware is falling into disrepair, the incident is piling pressure on Chancellor Angela Merkel's government to fix the country's defenses.

Penalty for Opting Out of the Affordable Care Act Is Large ($12,240) and Growing

If you're opting out of the health-care coverage required by the Affordable Care Act, make sure you understand how much you'll owe Uncle Sam as a result.

For a family of five, the penalty could be as high as $12,240 for the 2014 tax year, experts say. And for many people, the penalty will rise sharply in 2015 and 2016.

You Won’t Believe How Much Money Michelle Obama’s Ridiculous School Lunch Program Wastes On A Daily Basis

According to a WCPO report, Michelle Obama’s new school program is costing American taxpayers $4 million. And that’s not over the course of an entire year. That is how much it is costing American taxpayers on a daily basis. That’s right; $4 million each day.

A whopping 81 percent of schools have seen an increase in the number of lunches that now end up in the trash. The report also “shows that 60 percent of fresh vegetables and 40 percent of fresh fruit are being thrown away.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Would you be comfortable with your doctor's spouse operating on you? How about riding in a passenger jet where the controls were in the hands of the pilot's significant other?

Being the first lady does not mean Michelle is competent at anything (other than her ability to seduce and marry Obama). And just as you do not allow a doctor's spouse or a pilot's fiancee to take over their duties, nor should the first lady be accorded any authority over our lives merely because of who she married.

Japan Declares Level 3 Emergency, At Least One Dead After Volcano Erupts In Central Japan

When one thinks of Japan and natural disaster, the things that usually come to mind are earthquakes, tsunamis, radioactive lizards, the occasional massive nuclear power plant explosion. Not volcanoes - those are usually delegated to the sole country that dared to give bankers the middle finger, Iceland. And yet, overnight Japan declared a level 3 alert (on a scale of 1 to 5) when a volcano in central Japan erupted, sending ash clouds down the mountain’s slope for more than 3 kilometers. According to RT, at least one person has died and 70 were injured, while aircraft have been forced to divert to avoid the dangerous area. Medics confirmed the death of at least one person, while 70 more were reported to be injured, NHK reported. Thirty of the injured have been sent to hospital in critical condition, health officials added. One can only hope there were no nuclear power plants in the immediate vicinity of the volcano.

Meters eyed as possible cause of fires in Nevada

Nevada utility officials said Tuesday they will turn over all data demanded by state regulators investigating whether smart electricity meters pose a fire danger.

The state fire marshal and local fire chiefs sought the preliminary inquiry after investigators linked the meters to nine fires in Reno and Sparks since 2012, with the most recent resulting in a death in July.

EPA knew pesticides were killing honeybees in the 1970s but punished those who spoke out

For decades, top officials at the Environmental Protection Agency (PEA) were aware that a compound approved for agricultural use in the United States was wiping out the honeybee population, but they chose to ignore the compound's effects in deference to pressure from agri-giant corporations.

Worse, the agency reacted harshly to anyone within the EPA who attempted to bring the issue to light, including through firings, forced reassignments and other actions.

According to a scholarly 2014 study [PDF] compiled by researcher Rosemary Mason, "on behalf of a global network of independent scientists, beekeepers and environmentalists," and published on the website of MIT, "We have found historical and chronological evidence to show that the herbicide glyphosate (or other herbicides that are used as alternatives) is responsible for the transformation of garden escapes into super-weeds (in the UK these are termed 'invasive species')."

Four Large Fireball Events over USA

Three of the events, 2306, 2307 & 2308 all occurred within 1.5 hours of each other. It is rare that multiple significant fireball events occur and are reported to the AMS in the same evening. After analysis of the time, proximity of witnesses and pointing data gathered, it was determined that each event was unique. It is likely that several of these fireball events were captured on camera by the NASA fireball network. Trajectories for all four events were plotted and are displayed below.

Vaccine wars: the censoring of Rob Schneider

Yesterday, I reported on State Farm dropping Rob Schneider from their TV ads because he’s alerted people to vaccine dangers.

Because he has a view about vaccines that departs from the norm.

“Punch a hole in consensus reality and you can’t be a spokesman for our products.”

“Cause a ripple among the sleeping populace and you’re out.”

What’s next?

Well, I’ll tell you what could be next, based on the fact that the Internet runs via an interlocking system of commercial companies.

Some companies that facilitate emails to large lists, and website hosts, to say nothing of Facebook, which is already censoring information, could decide, under pressure, or voluntarily, to close down “controversial data.”

Photos: Robots and drones - here's what Intel's answer to the Raspberry Pi can do

The maker movement is thriving – with hobbyist technologists across the world packing low-cost computers and sensors into bespoke electronics that fuse art and technology.

The market is dominated by single-board computers and microcontrollers such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino, but new competitors are arriving all the time.

Intel's entry is Edison, a tiny single-board computers, little bigger than a postage stamp, measuring just 3.55 x 2.5 x 0.39cm.

Although it will be compared with the $35 Raspberry Pi model B+, it is designed to work as an embedded Linux board for electronic prototypes and products, rather than as a small-board computer running a full-blown Linux distro.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I love technology when it works, and am old enough that some of the newer advances keep me in awe when I remember what I started with. This new desktop I built easily outpaces the Cray Supercomputers of the 1980s. Of course, back when computers were slow, software had to be efficient, but I have observed that as processors got faster, software companies got lazy, writing bloated, inefficient code, relying on the advances in hardware to keep their products usable.

Obamacare Website Costs Top $2 Billion, Almost Triple Government Estimates

What's the opposite of government efficiency? In a double-take-instigating headline, the federal government’s Obamacare enrollment system has cost about $2.1 billion so far, according to a Bloomberg Government analysis of contracts related to the project. However, that pales into insignificance when considering health reform has cost American taxpayers $73 billion in the last four years... and counting.

Laboratory Says Security Is Tighter, but Earlier Count Missed Dangerous Vials

By Nelson Hernandez

Thursday, June 18, 2009

An inventory of potentially deadly pathogens at Fort Detrick's infectious disease laboratory found more than 9,000 vials that had not been accounted for, Army officials said yesterday, raising concerns that officials wouldn't know whether dangerous toxins were missing.

After four months of searching about 335 freezers and refrigerators at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases in Frederick, investigators found 9,220 samples that hadn't been included in a database of about 66,000 items listed as of February, said Col. Mark Kortepeter, the institute's deputy commander.

National Security Study 200

SUBJECT: Implications of Worldwide Population Growth for U.S. Security and Overseas Interests

The President has directed a study of the impact of world population growth on U.S. security and overseas interests. The study should look forward at least until the year 2000, and use several alternative reasonable projections of population growth.

In terms of each projection, the study should assess:

- the corresponding pace of development, especially in poorer-countries;
- the demand for US exports, especially of food, and the trade-problems the US may face arising from competition for resources; and
- the likelihood that population growth or imbalances will produce disruptive foreign policies and international instability.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As Ebola races across Africa, it appears that the United States Government's attitude towards the crisis is rather lackadaisical at this point. Certainly it is being treated as a lower priority than sheltering the illegal immigrants flooding across the Mexican border (who given enough time, will bring Ebola with them), providing weapons and money to Israel, and trying to provoke a potentially nuclear war with Russia.

The US Government's inaction could be attributed to the fact that the politicians can;t really do anything about it, cannot get votes out of it, and so, like with Fukushima and the Gulf Oil Disaster, their plan is to ignore Ebola and pretend it just is not important.

But there may be another agenda at work; one that dates back to the Nixon Administration. In 1974, Henry Kissenger prepared a study for the President which suggested US Government policy should work for depopulation of the third world, in particular the resource-rich regions, to make those resources available to the US and to prevent the rise of a sufficiently large population able to resist US incursions.

Nixon adopted this policy, but his successor, Gerald Ford, alarmed by scandals involving covert sterilization under the guise of global vaccination programs, ended the policy. Whether it has been revived in secret is not known.

But there is no question that an Ebola epidemic, raging through the very nations the US AFRICOM is seeking ton control, plays right into that agenda of depopulation to reduce nations' ability to resist US control, and that may be the reason the US Government has done little more about the emerging Ebola crisis than flap their gums for the corporate media cameras!

Prop 37 - GM maize 'has polluted rivers across the United States'

An insecticide used in genetically modified (GM) crops grown extensively in the United States and other parts of the world has leached into the water of the surrounding environment.

The insecticide is the product of a bacterial gene inserted into GM maize and other cereal crops to protect them against insects such as the European corn borer beetle. Scientists have detected the insecticide in a significant number of streams draining the great corn belt of the American mid-West.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is another classic example of a new technology sold to the public without thinking it all the way through. The maize plants had a gene added that forced them to produce an insecticide in the entire plant. When the non-crop portion of the plants decompose after harvest, the toxin drains off into streams and rivers where it accumulates, poisoning the environment, including benign and necessary insects which aid pollination of food crops.

And again, we expect corporations to stop all thinking once the product is paid for, but the US Government justifies its control over our lives and the pillaging of our wealth with thew promise that it will exercise oversight on potentially dangerous behaviors of corporations, such as when the SEC was supposed to keep an eye on Bernie Madoff (but didn't), the Bureau of Mine Safety was supposed to keep the mines from caving in (they didn't) and the MMS was supposed to make sure oil drilling didn't pose a hazard to the nation (they didn't do that either). In this case, with genetic engineering being the most dangerous technology to be allowed into the wild, proper oversight should have been exercised to consider what happens to the environment when the product ends its useful life and breaks free into the wild, such as the transfer of the "Roundup Ready" gene from food crops into Pigweed. Once again we are looking at a total failure of the US Government to protect the interests of ordinary Americans.

A Marijuana Bud A Day Keeps The Stroke Away

Webmaster's Commentary:

As it turns out, the claim that an aspirin a day helps avoid a heart attack is not true. It helps only if you are already recovering from a heart attack, but does nothing for people who are healthy (although it obviously brings huge profits to the aspirin companies). Now a recent peer-reviewed study showed that daily aspirin increases the occurrence of certain cancers. Thanks to the snake-oil salesmen for THAT one!

So now it turns out that smoking Marijuana (illegal) might actually be better for your heart than aspirin (legal and taxable).

As a side note, we all known that alcohol (legal and taxable) destroys brain cells while smoking Marijuana (illegal) has been shown in laboratory tests to stimulate the growth of new brain cells, illustrated when Cheech Marin, a lifelong admitted pot smoker, trounced the straight-laced Anderson Cooper in Celebrity Jeopardy.

So why is Marijuana illegal? Because when you grow it in your back yard you don;t pay tax on it, and a population of people smoking marijuana, growing their brains, and getting smarter is of no use at all to the money-junkies, who prefer you so brain dead you cannot see the Wall Street frauds or challenge the lies used to send your children to war.

GM Enviro-Pig Won't Go To Market; On To Humanely Solving an Environmental Problem

Heather Callaghan
Activist Post

Last year, the media was buzzing about the possibility of Enviro-pig entering the American and Canadian food markets.

The way our regulatory agencies work is to keep pending approvals for genetically modified animals on file, in secret, until a decision determines if it's suddenly in the stores unlabeled, or no, not yet.

Enviro-pig is a creation from Canada's University of Guelph scientists and hog industry Ontario Pork. Birthed in 1999, with 10 generations since. The DNA of Yorkshire pigs were spliced with DNA from e.coli for phosphorous digestion and mice DNA to promote the e.coli gene. The pigs' make-up was changed to allow the enzyme phytase in their saliva to cut the phosphorous in their manure by about 30 percent.

Man Arrested for Tainting Food with Mercury as Government, Corporations Go Free

Is tainting food with mercury a crime? Apparently only if you’re a citizens and not a major corporation or a United States government agency. One retired pharmacist was rightfully arrested after contaminating cafeteria food with heavily toxic mercury, yet no action has been taken against processed food manufacturers whose products are known to contain mercury. Nor has action been taken against the FDA, the organization that sits idly by as consumers continue to eat mercury-laden processed foods that make up on average about 90% of the US food supply.

The challenge came after President Obama cautioned the Supreme Court against overturning the health care law and warned that such an act would be “unprecedented.”

Million-year-old ash hints at origins of cooking

Ash found in a South African cave hints that humans were cooking with fire one million years ago.

The discovery is the earliest evidence yet found for use of this revolutionary technology, say the researchers behind the finding. But some experts caution that more proof is needed before we conclude that humans were cooking regularly at this date.

It is not possible to say for certain which species of hominin inhabited the cave one million years ago, but the team believes it was probably Homo erectus.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A million years. It boggles the mind to think of how much history happened that is lost to memory. Around 70,000 years ago the human population shrank to less than 15,000 individuals following the Toba supervolcano. We know that a great cataclysm happened 12,000 years ago when an asteroid struck somewhere in the north American area, wiping out the Clovis people and large fauna. Given how fast human civilization and culture has developed since the last great asteroid strike, it seems difficult to accept that similar progress did not happen in earlier times, with subsequent ice ages grinding all traces of those earlier civilizations to dust.

78 percent increase in autism rates over past decade coincides with new vaccination schedules

The rate of autism among American children has nearly doubled over the past decade, according to a new report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), jumping from about one in 150 children back in 2000 to about one in 88 children in 2008, which is the last time official estimates were calculated. And interestingly, this steady rise in autism rates coincides directly with CDC-endorsed vaccination schedules that have also risen sharply since the 1980s.

Age 10 the ‘New Norm’ for Puberty in Girls Thanks to Chemicals Like BPA

Toxic BPA is featured in the vast majority of plastics used commercially today. This chemical has the property of mimicking estrogen when leeched into the body. The delicate hormonal balance in the developing human body is being offset by the introduction of BPA and other chemicals into an average child’s life. Nearly out of the womb, children who are given plastic toys, pacifiers or bottles all come under the influence of this hormone disruption incredibly early.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Of course, with a government which actually cared, at least a little, for the health of its citizens, this chemical would be banned in this country.

However, that is not the case in the USA. As reported here:

http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/gsolomon/fda_to_consumers_were_still...

FDA is kicking the BPA-lined can further down the road in an announcement today that the Agency plans to keep studying this issue while consumers continue to be exposed. Specifically, the Agency's response to NRDC's petition is: "FDA has determined, as a matter of science and regulatory policy, that the best course of action at this time is to continue our review and study of emerging data on BPA."

Simple translation: the BPA manufacturers won, and US consumers lost, big time.

The best thing you can do is educate yourself about which products still contain this chemical, and to avoid them like the plague.

Monsanto’s GMO Seeds Contributing to Farmer Suicides Every 30 Minutes

In what has been called the single largest wave of recorded suicides in human history, Indian farmers are now killing themselves in record numbers. One hundred guards for 1,200 archaeological sites in southern Iraqi province

Israel routinely exploits archaeology for political purposes, to justify its "ownership" of the holy lands. It hypes its own antiquities (often frauds), while destroying artifacts from history viewed as a political threat. One of the great crimes committed against the people of Iraq was the looting of the Baghdad Museum and the destruction of many important ancient sites inside Iraq.

And more to the point, I think that destruction of ancient sites in Iraq is deliberate policy.

Egypt is literally littered with the ruins of the ancient temples and palaces of her rulers. As much as has been found, it is estimated that only 1/3 of Egypt's archeological wonders have been uncovered. A newly discovered temple was uncovered while digging a sewer line, and a cache of finely preserved mummies was literally stumbled over by a cow in a pasture.
