US will use ‘every tool’ to get ex-soldiers back from Venezuela: Pompeo

The US will use “every tool” available to secure the release of two former American soldiers believed to be held in Venezuela, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday.

Venezuelan officials claimed this week that two former US special forces soldiers — Luke Denman and Airan Berry — were among the mercenaries taken into custody after a botched coup attempt to overthrow Venezuelan socialist strongman Nicolas Maduro.

Pompeo stopped short of confirming the two Americans were being held in the South American nation, calling it a “consular matter.”

Captured Mercenary Admits Plans to Kidnap Venezuela's Maduro, Take Him to US on Plane

The Venezuelan military thwarted an attempted naval invasion by heavily-armed mercenaries coming from Colombia on Sunday morning, neutralizing multiple fighters and capturing at least two US nationals among them. More mercenaries have surrendered in the days since.

Venezuelan television has broadcast footage of the confession of Silvercorp USA mercenary Luke Alexander Denman, one of the US citizens captured in the aftermath of Sunday's botched raid. According to the mercenary, the plan was to kidnap Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, get him on a plane and take him back to the United States for prosecution.

Speaking to his interrogator, Denman explained that the mission was "to meet Venezuelans in Colombia, train them and come with them to Venezuela to secure Caracas and secure an airport here for follow-on."

"The instructions that I received...was to ensure that we took control of the airport for safe passage of Maduro," he says later in the interview.

REVEALED: Green Beret behind failed Venezuela coup provided security for Trump and hatched plot after meeting with President's bodyguard, a billionaire member of the Kraft family and the South American country's opposition leaders in Miami

The leader of the failed Venezuela coup that has seen two former US special forces soldiers taken into custody has apparently provided security for Donald Trump.

Ex-Green Beret Jordan Goudreau, 43, can be seen in footage with an earpiece at one of the president's rallies in Charlotte, North Carolina, in October 2018. He also claims to have provided security at a rally in Houston four days earlier.

The website for his private security firm Silvercorp claims he has planned and led international security teams for the President as well as the Secretary of Defense.

President Donald Trump Tuesday denied any involvement by the U.S. government in Monday's failed attack.

Venezuela Reports Attempted Naval Invasion by Mercenaries From Colombia

Venezuela and Colombia have had strained relations for years, with Caracas accusing Bogota of financing and otherwise supporting political forces seeking to overthrow the Maduro government.

The Venezuelan armed forces and police have thwarted an attempted naval invasion by mercenaries attempting to enter the country by sea from neighbouring Colombia, Venezuelan Interior Minister Nestor Reverol has announced.

“We would like to inform and denounce to the national and international community that early this morning, May 3, 2020, a group of terrorist mercenaries coming from Colombia attempted a sea invasion, with the objective to commit terrorist attacks in our country, assassinate leaders of the revolutionary government and to increase the spiral of violence, generate chaos and confusion among the population, and with this, to attempt a new coup d’état,” Reverol said, speaking on Venezuelan television Sunday morning.

VENEZUELA SAYS EIGHT KILLED IN FOILED 'INVASION BY SEA'

SOURCE: AL JAZEERA
Venezuela's government has said it foiled a marine incursion by "terrorist mercenaries" who attempted to enter the country on speedboats from neighbouring Colombia, adding security forces killed eight of the fighters.

The group landed early on Sunday on a beach in the port city of La Guaira, about 20 miles (32km) from the capital Caracas, Interior Minister Nestor Reverol said in a televised address.

"They tried to carry out an invasion by sea, a group of terrorist mercenaries from Colombia, in order to commit terrorist acts in the country, murdering leaders of the revolutionary government," he said.

Socialist Party leader Diosdado Cabello said eight people were killed and two were detained.

"We have deactivated an attempted incursion of our territory, thanks to intelligence efforts," Cabello told reporters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I don't think that this didn't happen, but was, perhaps, one of the "death by a thousand cuts" planned for the Venezuelan government, courtesy of the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika.

This attempt may well have not engineered to succeed; it may have been engineered, rather, to simply put more pressure on Maduros' government, already reeling under the boot of American sanctions.

Chile To Issue Controversial CV Certificates Despite WHO Saying Immunity Not Likely

By Aaron Kesel

Chile’s government is going ahead with a controversial COVID-19 immunity certificate program despite the World Health Organization and others warning that immunity to the virus might not be possible, the BBC reported.

The immunity documents would be given to Chile citizens to allow them to return to work, Deputy Health Minister Paula Daza said. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated there is “no evidence” that patients who contract coronavirus are immune from being infected again. Although, Chile insists that the certificates would not yet certify immunity, the country’s top health official Jaime Manalich said...

Pompeo Demands Countries Block Airspace To Iran's 'Terrorist Airline' After Venezuela Deliveries

The US is going on the offensive once again against Venezuela, this time attempting to break up growing Iranian cooperation and assistance to Caracas. The two so-called 'rogue states' recently targeted for US-imposed regime change are helping each other fight coronavirus as well as Washington-led sanctions. Specifically Tehran has ramped up cargo deliveries related getting Venezuela's derelict oil refineries fully operational.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in new statements has called on international allies to block airspace specifically for Iran's Mahan Air, currently under US sanctions, and which has in recent days delivered cargoes of "unknown support" to the Venezuelan government, according to Pompeo's words.

Late last week it was revealed Venezuela received a huge boost in the form of oil refinery materials and chemicals to fix the catalytic cracking unit at the 310,000 barrels-per-day Cardon refinery, essential to the nation's gas production.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh holy crud, is Pompeo attempting to pull another "Libya" toward Iran and Venezuela?!?

Please remember what was done here, and why:

Military intervention in Libya

The Wikipedia article goes on to state: "On 19 March 2011, a multi-state NATO-led coalition began a military intervention in Libya, ostensibly to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, in response to events during the Libyan Civil War. The United Nations' intent and voting was to have "an immediate ceasefire in Libya, including an end to the current attacks against civilians, which it said might constitute crimes against humanity ... imposing a ban on all flights in the country's airspace – a no-fly zone – and tightened sanctions on the [Muammar] Gaddafi regime and its supporters."[26]

American and British naval forces fired over 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles,[27] whereas the French Air Force, British Royal Air Force, and Royal Canadian Air Force[28] undertook sorties across Libya and a naval blockade by Coalition forces.[29] French jets launched air strikes against Libyan Army tanks and vehicles.[30][31] The intervention did not employ foreign ground troops.[32]

The Libyan government response to the campaign was totally ineffectual, with Gaddafi's forces not managing to shoot down a single NATO plane despite the country possessing 30 heavy SAM batteries, 17 medium SAM batteries, 55 light SAM batteries (a total of 400–450 launchers, including 130–150 2K12 Kub launchers and some 9K33 Osa launchers), and 440–600 short-ranged air-defense guns.[14][33] The official names for the interventions by the coalition members are Opération Harmattan by France; Operation Ellamy by the United Kingdom; Operation Mobile for the Canadian participation and Operation Odyssey Dawn for the United States.[34] Italy initially opposed the intervention but then offered to take part in the operations on the condition that NATO took the leadership of the mission instead of individual countries (particularly France). As this condition was later met, Italy shared its bases and intelligence with the allies.[35]"

I would like to remind you of the very sober, and thoroughly terrifying, observation, that those who do not understand history... are doomed to repeat it.

Libya lies in ruins today, still suffering from the horrifically violent upheaval of a civil war which has raged across the country from this military intervention in 2011, well into today, in April of 2020, making it 9 years of civil war.

Can NATO be talked into such a monstrous reality yet again, and if so, could they be demanded/cajoled by Pompeo, in creating another "no-fly", coupled with a "No Sail" zone over Iran and the Persian Gulf, while the OAS is also cajoled/commanded to do the same thing to Venezuela? and if so, how would they enforce it?!?

Please remember: Venezuela left the OAS in April of last year, Venezuela leaves OAS, Claiming that President Trump "Runs Over Member States."

And how will Russia react, if such a thing happens?!?

Remember, Russia assured Iran last year, that if the US attacks it, Iran will not be alone, if the US attacks.

Folks, we are about to be introduced to an alleged, new "Axis of Evil"; I would encourage you to examine those claims before you "jump on the bandwagon here and say, "HELL, yes, let's go to war with Venezuela and Iran, they are colluding like twin halves of an evil empire!!".

Venezuela may not be very useful in a long-term, geopolitical firefight, but Iran is, and would be; Russia's strategy, would then probably be to attempt to make any potential US invasion of Iran draw quick and immediate parallels with the horrific, ultimate ending of the war against Vietnam, in which the US government and military just got "ground down."

The longer I live, the more I understand that both the US government and military, seem to have very difficult challenges in learning from their mistakes; I wish I could see this as being otherwise, but 20th and 21st US history and logic, forbid me from seeing the facts this way.

"Driving The Gringos In The White House Crazy": Iran & Venezuela Deepen Sanctions-Busting Cooperation

Two so-called 'rogue states' recently targeted for US-imposed regime change are helping each other fight coronavirus as well as Washington-led sanctions.

Late last week it was revealed Venezuela received a huge boost in the form of oil refinery materials and chemicals to fix the catalytic cracking unit at the 310,000 barrels-per-day Cardon refinery, essential to the nation's gas supply.

This as a fuel and food shortage crisis has driven protests and clashes with police, especially in hard-hit rural areas, over the past month.

“Thanks to the support of our allies in the Islamic Republic of Iran... We will overcome our difficulties,” Erling Rojas, vice minister for refining and petrochemicals in Venezuela’s Oil Ministry, stated when the much-needed refinery parts arrived last Thursday.

He further underscored in colorfully provocative rhetoric that Iran’s support is “driving the gringos in the White House crazy.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

What did the Trump administration think, that both governments were going to roll over and play dead, as their responses to these sanctions?!?

I am very much reminded of a one-liner from the American comedian Ron White, which is: "You can't fix stupid!"

And unfortunately, the "stupid" when it comes to Iran, is that President Trump, and his cabinet, are, collectively, pathologically incapable of seeing Iran, except through the jaundiced eyes, and equally jaundiced perception, of one of his BFFs in the Middle East, Israel's Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu.

The other bit of "stupid" comes from ignoring a statement made by one of Putin's confidantes a year ago last summer to their Iranian counterparts at a summit last summer: Iran will not be alone, if the US attacks.

The statement was made by Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow\ last Summer, and reported by the Moscow Times.

There is one thing of which I am very certain; Kabulov would never have made the statement without Putin's absolute backing: if the US government attacks Iran, we will most probably be facing Russian military in Iran as well.

And Putin will move heaven and earth to insure that any US invasion of Iran.... will have precisely the same outcome as did the US invasion of Vietnam.

Pentagon Pressures Mexico To Reopen Factories Vital To Making US Weapons

It apparently took a global pandemic and corresponding economic shutdown of entire nations' economies for the American public to realize that surprisingly, the US military relies heavily for supplies involved in weapons systems manufacturing just south of the border.

The Pentagon's defense undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment, Ellen Lord, urged at the start of this week that Mexico reopen those factories which many US defense firms rely on, especially aircraft manufacturers, previously shuttered due to COVID-19.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This, if nothing else, is a cautionary tale to US executives, responsible for delivering weapons systems to the US military, of what some of the real dangers of outsourcing these items can be.

US Southern Command chief Admiral Craig Faller said in an interview that the growing US buildup in the Caribbean does not represent a change in Venezuelan policy, and is not aimed at removing President Maduro from power.

Venezuela Announces 6-month Rent Suspension, Guarantees Workers’ Wages, Bans Lay-offs

Speaking on a live televised address, President Nicolás Maduro instructed that all commercial and residential rent, as well as all capital and loan interest payments, are to be suspended for six months.

A pre-existing workplace stability decree has also been extended until the end of the year, outlawing job dismissals as a result of the quarantine.

Loan appeals by small and medium businesses are to be fast-tracked, and a special agricultural investment plan will look to guarantee the contents of the subsidized Local Food Production and Provision Committees (CLAP) food boxes for a reported seven million families. Telecommunications companies have also been barred from cutting off customers for six months.

US Continues to Push for Regime Change in Venezuela

Suggestions that the US could somehow take advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to finally secure a regime change in Venezuela were originally Juan Guaido’s idea. But the US quickly offered a revised proposal where Guaido and Maduro both stepped aside in favor of a new pro-US regime,

Over a week in, there are no signs of any takers, but the US is still sticking with that plan with Elliott Abrams saying that the US is determined to push ahead the “Democratic Transition Framework for Venezuela” plan.

The US declared a regime change in early 2019, announcing that Maduro is no longer president but Guaido is. After a solid year of getting the international community to accept this, however, Guaido seems no more likely now to take power, and the “transition” plan suggests the US goal is ousting Maduro more than it is propping up Guaido.

Brazilian Military Plan to Overthrow Bolsonaro

The political situation in Brazil worsens day after day. The irresponsible way in which President Jair Bolsonaro is managing the effects of the pandemic has been causing concern and fury in all sectors of Brazilian society. Oliver Stone: ‘Accurate to Say the U.S. Is Weaponizing’ Coronavirus

Hollywood director and radical left-wing activist Oliver Stone is pushing for the United States to ease sanctions against Iran and Venezuela during the coronavirus pandemic, arguing that the U.S. is “weaponizing the virus” against its adversaries.

At the same time, the two-time Oscar winning director praised the Communist dictatorships of China and Cuba for what he sees as their generosity during the global crisis.

Oliver Stone co-wrote an editorial for the New York Daily News with human rights attorney and peace activist Daniel Kovalik in which they make the stunning claim that the U.S. could be legally responsible for COVID-19 deaths in Iran if Washington fails to loosen sanctions. “It is accurate to say that the U.S. is weaponizing the virus against these countries,” they write.

Venezuela’s Maduro pens open letter to Americans

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has released a letter addressed to the American people urging them to prevent what he calls the madness that drives the government of President Donald Trump.

In the letter, Maduro says Trump seems determined to fulfill his threats of a military invasion against the Latin American country. Maduro stated that the country cannot accept war threats, nor the intention to install an international guardianship that would violate the country’s sovereignty.

The Venezuelan leader also demanded an end to the illegal sanctions and blockade by the US, which have impeded the import of humanitarian goods to fight the coronavirus outbreak in the country. Maduro said Trump must by no means be allowed to "lead the US into another conflict, like in Vietnam, or Iraq."

Webmaster's Commentary:

People in Caracas, including President Maduro, actually believe that Americans will have the opportunity to read this letter, and respond to it intelligently and humanely, asking their government to do the same.

However, unless one reads the English language version of presstv.com; telesurenglish.net; informationclearinghouse.info; thealtworld.com; en.granma.cu; liberationnews.org; telesurtv.net; or, ultimately, WRH, one is not going to know that such an open letter from Maduro's even exists.

IF one looks at Foxnews.com; the latimes.com; or nytimes.com, you will see nothing of this appeal by Maduro; it is as though it never existed.

So I, as an American citizen, who very much cares about her country's future, am compelled to ask the current Trump Administration; please, with regard to both Iran and Venezuela, loosen some of the worst embargo strictures on these pandemic-hit countries, and show yourselves as the international humanitarians you claim to be.

President Trump, I would politely suggest that the world is watching your actions right now, even over and above anything you might say.

US Navy Expands Presence Near Venezuela

Following up on a $15 million bounty the US has placed on the head of Venezuela’s President Maduro, the Pentagon announced a substantial buildup of naval assets in the Caribbean, with a lot of the ships parked off the Venezuelan coast.

This is not unrelated to US hostility toward Maduro. Officially, the Pentagon says the ships are to engage in “counter-narcotics” operations, but they’ve also said that part of the goal is to cut off Maduro’s funds and increase pressure on him.

More military pressure is one thing, but the serious concern is an outright US invasion of Venezuela to try to impose regime change, mirroring the 1989 invasion of Panama to oust Manuel Noriega. That invasion was done on the pretext of the drug war, and with the blessing of Attorney General William Barr, who also provided the legal basis for the Maduro bounty.

US to Venezuela: ‘We'll stop killing you if you do what we tell you to do’

American human rights expert and peace activist says the United States is basically telling Venezuela, “We'll stop killing you, we’ll stop sanctioning you during a pandemic if you do what we tell you to do in terms of having new elections.”

Daniel Kovalik, who teaches international human rights at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in the state of Pennsylvania, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV Thursday after Venezuela rejected a scheme devised by the United States that envisages the removal of sanctions on the country if the elected government in Caracas steps down.

“The Bolivarian government reiterates that Venezuela does not accept, nor will it ever accept any tutelage, from any foreign government,” Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said in a Twitter post on Tuesday, shortly after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo presented the scheme.

William Barr Greenlit Bush’s Invasion of Panama, Is Venezuela Next?

The US Justice Department unsealed an indictment on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and other government officials last week, accusing them of "narco-terrorism." The move is reminiscent of the 1988 indictment of former CIA asset and Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega. The Noriega indictment resulted in a US invasion of Panama that left hundreds – possibly thousands – of dead civilians in its wake. Attorney General William Barr took to the podium to announce Maduro’s indictment. Barr happens to be the same person who gave the first Bush administration the legal justification to invade Panama just over 30 years ago.

Barr first worked in the DOJ in 1989 when George H. W. Bush appointed him as head of the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC). Bush and Barr had some history together. The two first crossed paths in 1976 when Bush was head of the CIA, and Barr served as a congressional liaison for the agency. At the time, Manuel Noriega was also on the CIA’s payroll.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is another, very disturbing story regarding Venezuela which broke over the weekend.

Rosneft Hands Venezuelan Oil Business to Russian State Firm

The article goes on to state: "Russia's Rosneft has transferred its assets in Venezuela to a company fully owned by Vladimir Putin's government, a move apparently intended to shield Russia's largest oil producer from U.S. sanctions while Moscow continues showing support for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in the wake of a U.S. narcotics indictment."

So one has to wonder: with the chaos, confusion, and pain, caused by both Covid 19, and US governmental response to it, are we looking at a Venezuelan "Coup-Coup Ca-CHOO!" coming forward very shortly?!?

This may well be confirmed by an article from globalresearch.ca, with the following title: USA Activates New Phase of Violence and Coup d’état Against Venezuela, by the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, in response to the US accusing Maduro of "narcotrafficking yesterday.

Timing on something like this move, is rarely...coincidental.

Rosneft Abruptly Exits Venezuela, Sells Assets To Russian State, Amid US Squeeze On Maduro

In the past weeks the Kremlin has shown it's willing to punch back as well as take drastic necessary defensive action in the face of Washington sanctions at a moment America is preoccupied and made more vulnerable by the coronavirus threat — first by dumping OPEC+ and MbS, effectively declaring war on US shale — and now by taking aggressive measures to insulate Russia's state-controlled Rosneft.

Ex-Venezuelan General Indicted in Narco-Terrorism Case Surrenders to DEA Agents - Reports

A former Venezuelan general has surrendered to the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) just a day after being indicted by US federal prosecutors and having a $10 million reward posted for his capture.

On Friday, Clíver Antonio Alcalá Cordones, a former major general of the Venezuelan Army, surrendered to Colombia's National Intelligence Directorate in Bogota and is now in the custody of the US DEA, El Tiempo reported, citing unnamed sources.

Alcalá left his position in Venezuela's armed forces in 2013. US federal prosecutors alleged he had been "a leader and manager of the Cartel of the Suns," a supposed drug smuggling ring inside the Venezuelan government the US government has claimed makes leading Venezuelan officials "narco-terrorists." Alongside 13 other Venezuelans, Alcalá was indicted in the Southern District Court of New York on Thursday on narco-terrorism charges and the State Department placed a $10 million bounty on his head.

US House Rams Through Nicaragua Regime-Change Bill with Zero Opposition

Ben Norton reports on the passage of a bipartisan bill that further intensifies the U.S. attack on the Ortega government and received no coverage in the English-language corporate media.

As the Trump administration’s year-long coup attempt against Venezuela spirals out in failure, the U.S. government has taken aim at Nicaragua with increasing ferocity, in a bid to topple its democratically elected, leftist Sandinista government.

Washington’s pressure escalated further on March 9 when the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan resolution in a voice vote without any opposition that demanded more sanctions and aggressive actions against the Nicaraguan government of President Daniel Ortega.

This bill — which received no coverage in the English-language corporate media — refers to Nicaragua’s elected government as the “Ortega regime,” echoing the bellicose rhetoric of the right-wing opposition.

Venezuela Responds with Principled Conviction to the US’ Desperate Attempts at Regime Change

The continued effort to overthrow President Maduro does not seem to produce the intended results for the perpetrators, but rather sends signals of desperation. The regime change plotters may be wishing to achieve what they did in Bolivia. But that is not likely to happen anytime soon. That must cause some political frustration in Washington and of course more resistance in Caracas.

TRUMP SETS NEW TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS OVER CORONAVIRUS, CONSIDERING SOUTHERN BORDER SHUTDOWN

SOURCE: FOX NEWS
President Trump authorized new travel restrictions and warnings Saturday – and said he’s even looking at closing the southern border – in response to the coronavirus outbreak that has claimed the first American life, while assuring the nation at an all-hands-on-deck press conference there’s “no reason to panic.”

Trump announced new strict travel "edicts" affecting Iran, Italy and South Korea and Trump confirmed he's looking to potentially tighten the U.S.-Mexico border.

"Yes, we are thinking about [the] southern border, we have received a lot of power on the southern border over the last couple of years from the courts but we are looking at that very strongly," Trump said at a press conference.

The rare appearance in the White House press briefing room came shortly after news of the first death in the United States from the new virus and a terrible week on the stock market over fears of the outbreak.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What he is talking about doing is absolutely reasonable, given where clusters of the disease are cropping up; and yes, including the Southern Border closure makes sense; but my question is, until there is a viable vaccine, will it be enough?!?

For me, the jury is out on that one; please observe the standard protocols, like frequent hand washing.

But for people living in a "hot zone", where a number of these cases have been diagnosed, you may want to research, and get, some colloidal silver; some probiotics (because much of human immunity comes from our gut 8 health benefits of probiotics); and some Vitamin C, to assist your immune system in protecting you from getting ill, as much as might be possible.

The Lima Group Is More than Just About Venezuela. Scheduling More Coups and Color Revolutions in Latin America?

At the behest of Donald Trump and Chrystia Freeland, the Lima Group met in Ottawa on February 20th, 2020. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister François-Philippe Champagne dutifully mouthed their set lines and good Samaritan posturing in the pretense of democracy, humanitarianism and the rule of law. Ostensibly, the purpose of this meeting was to devise and orchestrate ways to oust the vile, murderous dictator, as Washington has sought to cast the duly elected President Nicolás Maduro.

Progressive chroniclers and activists have almost exclusively been concerned with the notion that a dismembered Venezuela is the main, or even the only, labor of love of this nefarious little band of economic fundamentalists, death-incanting, democratically-challenged member regimes of the Lima Group. I fear that we may not fully appreciate what this cartel is up to.

Why Is Maduro Still Pushing The Petro?

In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Mary Anastasia O’Grady writes that Venezuela’s “National Superintendency for the Defense of Socio-Economic Rights is reportedly pressuring stores to accept the government’s new digital fiat currency, the petro.” The Venezuelan government claims its digital currency, which launched in early 2018, is backed one-for-one by a barrel of oil. The petro is also intended to circulate at a fixed exchange rate with the bolívar soberano, the latest iteration of Venezuela’s fledgling currency.

Ms. O’Grady quotes me summarizing some of the work I have done with Josh Hendrickson and Thomas Hogan, which shows that a government can get its citizens to use its preferred money so long as it is sufficiently big or is willing to levy sufficiently large punishments. But she leaves another question unanswered: why would the Venezuelan government prefer the petro?

BLOOMBERG SURROGATE WAS PR GURU FOR BRAZIL’S EXTREME-RIGHT LEADER BOLSONARO

SOURCE: THE GRAYZONE
Former Michael Bloomberg aide Arick Wierson, who is pushing the billionaire’s 2020 presidential campaign and attacking Bernie Sanders, helped elect far-right demagogue Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil.

BY BEN NORTON

A Michael Bloomberg surrogate pumping up the billionaire’s 2020 campaign for president also helped to elect Brazil’s extreme-right leader, Jair Bolsonaro, an open supporter of military dictatorship who frequently threatens violence against his political opponents.

Arick Wierson is a public relations strategist who served as a political aide and the top communications adviser to Bloomberg when the Republican media mogul was mayor of New York City.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That Bloomberg is so comfortable, tasking surrogates to support dictatorships in other countries with their PR, to the detriment of the people living in those countries, makes me wonder just what kind of allegiances he has to the Original Contract with America, the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

And a at this moment in time, I find myself singularly uncomfortable with this question, relative to Bloomberg's Presidential candidacy and aspirations.

Trump Sanctions Rosneft, Russia's Largest Oil Company, For Helping Maduro In Venezuela

The Trump administration announced significant new sanctions on Tuesday targeting Rosneft, Russia’s largest oil company, for helping Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro circumvent U.S. sanctions. Specifically, the sanction targets Rosneft Trading SA, a unit of Russia's state-owned oil giant Rosneft, as well as company’s executive Didier Casimiro, over the company’s actions in Venezuela, senior administration official said in call with reporters.

The US accused Rosneft of propping up Venezuela’s oil sector, the admin official said, characterizing the company as the “primary culprit” of a campaign to evade Washington’s pressure campaign on the Maduro regime.

Mistrial Is Another Blow to US Coup in Venezuela

Last week, we along with Adrienne Pine and David Paul were unsuccessfully prosecuted by the Trump administration for our protection of the Venezuelan embassy in Washington, DC from April 10 to May 16, 2019. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision and so we remain innocent of the charge of interfering with the protective functions of the US Department of State. The judge declared a mistrial. It was a partial victory and we greatly appreciate the jurors who were able to see through the cloud of misinformation in the courtroom and vote to acquit us.

Mistrial in Trump admin’s biased case against Venezuelan embassy protectors is win for sovereignty

A hung jury in the Donald Trump administration’s case against activists who were arrested protecting Venezuela’s internationally recognized embassy in Washington, DC is being heralded as a major win for sovereignty, amid the US government’s floundering coup attempt against the Chavista government in Caracas.

On February 14, a jury of 12 DC residents were deadlocked over the issue of the embassy defenders, forcing the judge to declare a mistrial — in a blow to the federal government and to a judicial system that had stacked the odds against them.

China, Russia to Defy US Sanctions Over Support to Venezuela

The Russian government rejected on Monday the U.S. threats to impose new sanctions against several Russian companies for their cooperation with Venezuela in the oil sector.

Last week, the United States special representative for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, warned Russia that its support for Venezuela will cost them econmically as Washington is looking to sanction them.

“We classify this practice as harmful, we believe that many countries suffer because of this practice, we consider it contrary to international law,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov told reporters Monday in regards to Washington’s plans.

“The United States, especially, and several other countries, unfortunately use these trade and other restrictions very frequently against third world countries, which are illegal under international law.”

THE LAWYER WHO FOUGHT CHEVRON FOR ‘CHERNOBYL OF THE AMAZON’ IS NOW A ‘CORPORATE POLITICAL PRISONER’

Last year the world was shocked by the devastating fires which tore through the Amazon rainforest. People from all corners of the globe voiced their sadness and support on social media, celebrities came forth with pledges of support, and Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro become the public face of the ruin of the rainforest.

With all the concern over the situation, however, those who truly care about the rainforests of South America missed an important development in the multi-generational fight against the corporations most responsible for deforestation and oil drilling in the earth’s most biologically diverse natural ecosystems.

Steven Donziger has been fighting for indigenous land rights and social justice in South America for over 25 years, and is celebrated as the lawyer who stood up to and won a $9.5 billion dollar settlement against Chevron in 2011 for polluting Lago Agrio, Ecuador with cancer-causing chemicals, poisoning many indigenous groups in the region.

Embassy Protectors Will Not Be Able to Tell Jury Guaido Is Not President, or Mention International Law

By Ajamu Baraka and Bahman Azad
Co-Chairs of the Embassy Protectors Defense Committee

On February 4, Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell issued a ruling on what the jurors will be allowed to be told in the trial of the Embassy Protectors scheduled to begin on February 11. She granted most of the government’s requests to prevent the jury from hearing important facts about the case, leaving the protectors with little in the way of a defense.

The courtroom will not be an oasis of truth in Washington, DC. The fact that Nicolas Maduro is the lawful president of Venezuela, not the coup leader Juan Guaido, cannot be uttered in that courtroom. Even though everyone, including the judge and prosecutors, knows that Guaido has not served one nanosecond as president since his self-declared presidency one year ago, the jurors will not be allowed to be told that critical fact. They will be led to believe that Guaido’s fake ambassador Carlos Vecchio is real.

Brazil: judge dismisses cybercrimes accusations against Glenn Greenwald

Prosecutors had accused the journalist of helping a group hack into the phones of local authorities.

A Brazilian judge has rejected charges against the US journalist Glenn Greenwald stemming from his role in producing a series of damaging political exposés involving the celebrity justice minister of Brazil’s far-right president Jair Bolsonaro.

Federal prosecutors last month accused Greenwald – a staunch Bolsonaro critic – of being part of a “criminal” group of hackers which had allegedly pilfered messages from the mobile phones of Brazilian prosecutors and judges.

The extracted material served as the basis for a succession of politically explosive reports published by Greenwald’s media organisation the Intercept.

Pragmatic agenda: Lavrov tours Latin America to foster cooperation, not to spite Washington

The Russian foreign minister’s three-day trip to Latin America has provoked nervous reactions in the US, where it is assumed to be part of an anti-American agenda even though Moscow has legitimate economic interests in the region.
During the trip that started on Wednesday, Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to pay one-day visits to Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela – setting the tongues wagging in Washington.

The Hill branded the whole trip a “show of support” for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whom US President Donald Trump had just declared a “dictator” while offering support to self-proclaimed “interim leader” Juan Guaido.

Even Reuters has insinuated that Lavrov was “sent” by the Kremlin to Caracas to somehow “counteract” American sanctions. The standard line of mainstream media outlets seems to be that Moscow seeks to “strengthen influence in the region.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, please; this alleged "Russian menace" went out with the dribble glass and the whoopie cushion.

Russian business people are just that; business people, period, end of discussion. This is why Lavrov is traveling to these countries, to encourage more business ties and deals.

I would really appreciate it, if DC wouldn't insinuate "evil" in to everything the Russian government does; the Russian government is doing this to protect the people who hired them, by voting, to run their government.

DOJ Buried Allegations That Cheney’s Halliburton Subsidiary Paid Bribes for Venezuela Contracts

Part of the ongoing U.S. demonization of the Nicolas Maduro government of Venezuela is to accuse it of corruption. In 2017, for example, U.S. prosecutors charged five former Venezuelan officials under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) with soliciting bribes in exchange for helping vendors win favorable treatment from state oil company PdVSA from 2011 to 2015. (Hugo Chávez was president 2006 to 2013, and Maduro became president in 2013.)

However, there’s another example of PdVSA bribery that the U.S. never felt compelled to pursue. It is the alleged and never investigated Halliburton bribery of Venezuelan oil company officials in the late 1990s when Halliburton was run by Dick Cheney, who would leave it to become vice-president under George W. Bush.

Morales claims US orchestrated 'coup' to tap Bolivia's lithium

Former Bolivia president Evo Morales told AFP on Tuesday that he was forced from office by a United States-backed coup d'etat aimed at gaining access to the South American country's vast lithium resources.

Demand for lithium is expected to grow globally as it is one of the key components in batteries used in high-tech equipment such as laptops and electric cars.

Morales resigned as president on November 10 after almost three weeks of protests against his controversial re-election to an unconstitutional fourth term in a poll widely denounced as rigged.

His resignation came after then-chief of the armed forces General Williams Kaliman publicly stated the former trade union leader should step down.

But since then, Morales -- Bolivia's first indigenous president -- has claimed to have been the victim of a coup d'etat.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This guy, who was known for really trying to lift the Bolivian people out of poverty, is entirely correct in his assessment.

Bolivia: A coup for Israel too

Shortly after left-wing Bolivian President Evo Morales was ousted in a US-supported coup in November - disguised as a noble reaction to alleged electoral fraud - the self-appointed, fanatically right-wing Bolivian “interim” government announced the renewal of diplomatic relations with Israel.

These had been severed by Morales in 2009 during Israel’s Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip, which killed some 1,400 Palestinians, including more than 300 children. Though Israel naturally cast itself as the singular victim of the affair, the ratio of Palestinian civilian to Israeli civilian deaths was 400:1.

During a subsequent Israeli-inflicted bloodbath in Gaza in 2014, this one by the name of Operation Protective Edge and entailing the slaughter of 2,251 Palestinians (including 299 women and 551 children), Morales denounced Israel as a “terrorist state” - a perfectly accurate assessment, given the circumstances and Israel’s track record.

Bolivian Attorney General Orders Ex-President Morales' Arrest

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales, who, after resigning, received asylum in Mexico, arrived on 12 December in the capital of Argentina, where he was granted refugee status.

Bolivia’s new Interior Minister Arturo Murillo has on Twitter published an arrest order for the country’s former President Evo Morales.

According to the text of the document, the decision to issue a warrant was taken as part of a criminal investigation into incitement to rebellion, terrorism, and financing terrorism.

The interior minister has already vowed to detain the former president, accusing Morales of inciting anti-government protests that, as Murillo claimed, amounted to terrorism.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is primarily a very public exercise in futility, as Mora has already been given permanent asylum in Argentina; and I sincerely doubt that Argentina will return him back to Bolivia for what is certain to be, a show trial.

Ousted President Evo Morales Says Transnational Corporations, US Gov’t Were Behind Bolivia Coup

Ousted Bolivian President Evo Morales did not hold back on his criticism of U.S. empire in an interview with Intercept co-founder Glenn Greenwald in Mexico. Morales was overthrown last month in a U.S.-backed coup that has left dozens dead and a country in upheaval. While faces in the White House may change, the same imperialist policies remain in place, Morales explained. Between Obama, Bush and Trump, he said:

I doubt that there are differences between them. Maybe in their form, but at the end of the day, there are no differences between them. They all speak of peace, but none speak of social justice or the independence of states, the dignity or identity of the people…so, as far as I see, democracy in America deceives its people into voting but neither the people nor the government rule, it is the transnational corporations who govern, whether it’s the Democrats or Republicans.”

WHILE EVO’S MAS PARTY REGROUPS, BOLIVIA’S COUP LEADERS ARE EATING EACH OTHER ALIVE

SOURCE: THEGRAYZONE.COM
Humiliating scandals are destroying right-wing leader Luis Fernando Camacho and the right is fracturing as a more militant MAS party readies for an uphill election battle

BY WYATT REED
La Paz, Bolivia – Just one month after ruling elites and right-wing politicians seized power in Bolivia with a military coup, the fragile unity they briefly enjoyed has erupted into a bitter public feud.

Local analysts had predicted that coup leader Luis Fernando Camacho and Pumari could unite the right from the country’s east and west, both indigenous and white or mestizo. They were seen as an insurmountable dream team. That alliance now lies smoldering, with the two presidential frontrunners openly airing their dirty laundry amid a vicious power struggle.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder; if the right continues tearing itself apart, courtesy of its own hubris and stupidity, what, then, is waiting in the wings to take over, with those huge lithium deposits at stake?!?

One of the last things that happened, before Morales was forced to flee the country, was to look at signing a deal with China about lithium mining, and insuring that the of people of Bolivia got some of the money from this process.

The US Pentagon; State Department; and Congress are going to have to think, long and hard, about who it wants to replace the fracturing right-wing, just as China is most probably looking at who it might bring a new deal to Bolivia, who has the potential for staying power.

OR, under the circumstances, is the US going to invade?!?

Right now, with a "Foreign Policy by Dartboard" approach in South and Central America (where, unfortunately, none of the deciders on Team Trump, are actually looking at same dartboard), I would not bet against this, as hysterical a notion it might seem right now.

These lithium deposits may ultimately be worth billions; that ... has been enough for the US government to invade and attempt to "pacify" the indigenous populations, both in Central and South America, and in the Middle East.

MÉXICO HAS DISCOVERED THE LARGEST LITHIUM RESERVE IN THE WORLD

TRANSLATED FROM FORBES MÉXICO
Mexico tops the list of the largest lithium deposit in the world , according to the report ranking made by Mining Technology.

The report indicates that the mine of this element located in Sonora is the largest element deposit with proven and probable reserves of 243.8 million tons.

In recent days, members of the Sonora government have met with the Chinese capital mining company Ganfeng Lithium, who are looking to settle and invest in the region.

"They have more than seven thousand employees and are very interested in coming in January, they will come on a commercial mission to Sonora, because they are interested in being here, seeing the possibility of installing and setting up a battery factory," said Jorge Vidal, secretary Sonoran economy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would completely dismayed, if the scientific elements in this government didn't know about this huge deposit in Sonora, and that the Mexican government is now negotiating with China.

But what if the American government knew full well that this was about to happen, and had a plan to make such a Mexican/Chinese deal....a moot point?!?

Let's look at a map, in terms of the border of Mexico (Sonora, to be exact)
Border; Arizona, United States; Sonora, Mexico

Notice the flurry of headlines we have seen in the past couple of months, about cartel gang violence in Mexico, "spilling over" into the the US?!?
The Sinaloa
Cartel

Mexico: Organized Crime and Drug
Trafficking Organizations

Mexico ambush: How a US Mormon family ended up deadThe article goes on to state that "In time, the Mormon community south of the border grew in number and wealth.

They purchased land in the states of Sonora and Chihuahua and set up ranches and other colonias. They thrived as pecan farmers, grew wheat, planted apple and pomegranate orchards and produced honey to sell at farmers' markets. Although many returned to the southern United States after the Mexican Revolution, by the 1950s the Mormon enclaves had populations in the high hundreds or low thousands."

And notice, right after that, how President Trump was attempting to get Mexican drug cartels designated as "terrorists" ?!?

President Trump wants to label Mexican cartesl as "terrorist organizations"

Even though the Mexican government is bitterly opposed to such a measure, what happens if the US military goes in and "Controls" Sinaloa?!? Would this not mean that the US government also controlled the flow of lithium, in terms of practical production, and insuring that this mineral, would only be sold in the US dollar?!?

The previous moves by the US government remind us of the reality, that President Trump has US soldiers "guarding Syria's oil, and is at least considering having the refining by a US-trusted company"?!?!?

Trump OKs wider Syria oil mission, raising legal questions.

So what about Bolivia's "coup coup ka CHOO!" last month, when President Evo was overthrown, and found sanctuary in Mexico, for at least a while?!? What was his "crime" leading up to the ultra-right Putsch which took power here?

Bolivian Coup Comes Less Than a Week After Morales Stopped Multinational Firm's Lithium Deal

And another salient comment on bolivia's coup:

After Morales Ousted in Coup, the Lithium Question Looms Large in BoliviaThe story goes on to state:

"Last year, Germany’s ACI Systems agreed to a deal with Bolivia. After protests from residents in the Salar de Uyuni region, Morales canceled that deal on November 4, 2019.

Chinese firms—such as TBEA Group and China Machinery Engineering—made a deal with YLB. It was being said that China’s Tianqi Lithium Group, which operates in Argentina, was going to make a deal with YLB. Both Chinese investment and the Bolivian lithium company were experimenting with new ways to both mine the lithium and to share the profits of the lithium. The idea that there might be a new social compact for the lithium was unacceptable to the main transnational mining companies.

Tesla (United States) and Pure Energy Minerals (Canada) both showed great interest in having a direct stake in Bolivian lithium. But they could not make a deal that would take into consideration the parameters set by the Morales government. Morales himself was a direct impediment to the takeover of the lithium fields by the non-Chinese transnational firms. He had to go.

After the coup, Tesla’s stock rose astronomically.

I do not know when President Trump is likely to characterize Mexican cartels (particularly in Sinaloa) in Sinaloa and beyond, as "terrorists; that gives President Trump gets a great more leeway in terms of how he uses our military; but I would suggest that an executive order, putting the wheels in motion for such an action, will not be long in coming.

And in terms of Mexico's "sovereignty"?!?

President Trump will give Mexico's President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, precisely the same consideration as he did with Syria's President, Bashar Al Assad, when he both trained, funded, and provided weapons to Jihadis, whose task it was, to regime-change Syria, and take a great deal of their oil.

Oh, and if this isn't disturbing enough, we find this little "crumpet" of news in blacklistednews.com: US Army will fund rare earths-processing

So I have to wonder; will the first "funding" go soon-to-be US-controlled lithium mines in Mexico?!?

I will nearly bet you one thing; the "timing" of this announcement, is not accidental.

Cartel Violence Explodes - Has Mexico Finally Lost All Control?

Authored by Sarah Cowgill via LibertyNation.com,

On the heels of President Donald Trump’s attempts to designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs), an attack uncomfortably close to U.S. soil has the Mexican government scrambling and the president fuming. At least 22 died over the weekend as rival cartels struggling for Northern Mexico turf dominance clashed with local law enforcement in Villa Union, Coahuila, an hour’s drive from Eagle’s Pass, TX. The brazen attack seemingly was directed at the Mexican government to send a warning as to who is in charge.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think that the real question which should be asked is, was Mexico's government ever, really, in control of cartel violence in the first place, and the short answer is, "HELL no!".

My late maternal grandmother, Thelma, lived in Eagle's Pass Texas as a kid, and when I was a teenager, she took me there to meet an old family friend; the place looked like a broken stepchild of two countries which had no real compunction to fix anything which, to my eyes, meant everything.
The grinding, unrelenting urban poverty I remember seeing, broke my heart, and I wondered how this town was supposed to survive, in such a condition.

Fast-forward to 2019, and it is very obvious to me, that the drug cartels have taken over on both sides of the US/Mexico border.

But if President Trump wants to put an end to this alleged "war on drugs", which is utterly doomed to failure, in its current configuration, all he has to do, is to declassify, and decriminalize small amounts of drugs for personal use, then have those using referred to counseling, rather than jail.

And guess what European country has already made this work, at least to some degree: Portugal's radical drugs policy is working, so why hasn't the world copied it?

Now I will be the first to admit that this policy had areas where it didn't work; however, that being said, it is one hell of a lot more practical, and more compassionate, than nearly anything being done in the US.

Is Trump’s New Drug Cartel Terrorism Designation Masking a More Sinister Agenda?

President Donald Trump announced that he will designate Mexican drug cartels as “terrorists”, paving the way for a potentially massive increase in American military involvement directly south of its border. “They will be designated,” Trump told ex-Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly during an interview, revealing that he asked the Mexican government for permission to put soldiers on the ground: “let us go in and clean it out,” Trump said, revealing that they have “so far has rejected the offer. But at some point, something has to be done.”

Mexico’s left-wing president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, commonly referred to by his initials, AMLO, hit back Friday, insisting that his country had not been invaded for more than a century and that he would not permit an invasion under his watch, revealing exactly how he understood Trump’s offer.

Trump Claims that Nicaragua Is a “National Security Threat” to Legitimize U.S. Economic Aggression

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday extended a national emergency declaration for Nicaragua for a year due to the “dismantling and undermining of democratic institutions” by the Government of the Central American country and the alleged repression of activists.

The notice extends for one year the emergency declared on November 27, 2018. The national emergency is intended to broaden the presidential powers to invoke a dozen relevant U.S. laws, however, it is not clear how the declaration would apply to Nicaragua. Trump used a similar emergency statement regarding the U.S.-Mexico border to invoke existing laws that, according to the administration, allow the diversion of money from government programs to build a border wall.

But why has Trump decided to do this?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Nicaragua, a "national security threat"?!? Mr. President, are you flipping kidding us?!?

So let's talk reality here, by looking at the following article:

World's Largest lithium resources op for grabs, due to political upheaval in Bolivia

The article goes on to state: "One of the most prominent conspiracy theories surrounding the recent overthrow of Bolivian President Evo Morales is that the military’s intervention was a coup to ensure US control of lithium.

Considered a critical resource, lithium is a key component of new technologies including car batteries, phones, electronic devices and sophisticated weapons systems – and recent reports suggest Bolivia could host around 30% of the world’s total of the raw material.

In media interviews, Morales has claimed his ousting is the result of a US-backed movement to establish a right-wing leader who will expose the South American nation’s lithium reserves to exploitation by industry."

US companies want to get their hands on Nicaraguan lithium, so a coup was instituted by American interests, and Morales got overthrown: this is not a "conspiracy theory", but is premised on hard, logical fact.

Also, we have documentation from commondreams.org of the following:

After Morales Ousted in Coup, the Lithium Question Looms Large in Bolivia

The article goes on to state: "Tesla (United States) and Pure Energy Minerals (Canada) both showed great interest in having a direct stake in Bolivian lithium. But they could not make a deal that would take into consideration the parameters set by the Morales government. Morales himself was a direct impediment to the takeover of the lithium fields by the non-Chinese transnational firms. He had to go.

After the coup, Tesla’s stock rose astronomically."

Regime change coupled with a color revolution of dubious origins; this has become the US government's "recipe" for the expropriation of natural resources to which the US government, or corporations, have utterly no moral right; but the US government, had to beat out China's potential claim to the stuff, no matter the cost in Nicaraguan blood or money, right?!?

US Vows to ‘Reinforce’ Sanctions, Accuses Venezuela and Cuba of Stirring Regional ‘Strife’Elliott Abrams reiterated support for Guaido and denied that sanctions are damaging the Venezuelan economy.

Guaido proclaimed himself head of state in January and has gone on to lead several unsuccessful efforts to topple Maduro, including a failed military putsch in April.

Trump immediately backed Guaido’s “interim presidency,” handing the Venezuela file to Abrams, a veteran cold warrior infamous for his role in the Iran/Contra scandal, the Reagan administration’s Central America policy, and the Iraq War.

Asked about the efficacy of US sanctions, Abrams assured reporters that the measures are cutting off vital funds for the Venezuelan government. However, he acknowledged that he “would like to see, obviously, the sanctions work better,” adding that “there are plans to reinforce the effort.” He did not offer further details.

What’s the Deal with Sanctions in Venezuela, and Why’s It So Hard for Media to Understand?

Mexico Won’t Allow US Military Operations Against Cartels: Foreign Minister warns drone strikes would violate sovereignty

President Trump’s move to declare Mexican cartels as terrorist groups is potentially going to be complicated, and Mexican President Obrador sought to establish a red-line, that Mexico will not allow the US to conduct cross-border military operations into Mexico looking for the cartels.

Trump hasn’t said he will send troops, saying that didn’t “want to say what I’m going to do” after the designation of the cartels. He refused to rule out the use of drone strikes in a recent interview, however.

Mexico’s foreign ministry was quick to reject that idea, saying that drone strikes would be a “violation of national sovereignty,” and have contacted the US to seek clarification about what they actually intend to do.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump will treat Mexico's sovereignty... in just the same way as he has treated the sovereignty of Syria; the Mexican government is helpless to put a stop to it, unless another nation with heavy "fire-power" intervenes, as Russia did in Syria.

What President Trump should do, is to declare that personal amounts of all drugs become unscheduled, to pull the profit motive out from under the cartels' bottom line; of course, this will happen only when pigs discover they are aerodynamic, because there is so much money to be made from the illicit drug trade, by banks, corporations, and even, perhaps...political candidates.

And I am NOT throwing down the "j'accuse" against President Trump on this issue; I just wish he saw drug addiction more as an illness, rather than something against which to declare war.

Maduro Says US, Colombia Prepare Provocation, Mobilises Venezuelan Army

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he had information that Colombia and the United States were planning a provocation on the Bolivarian Republic's western border and called on all staff of the country's armed forces to be prepared for battle.

"I have information that Colombia, together with the US Southern Command are planning to launch another provocation at the Venezuelan border with Colombia. All staff of Venezuela's armed forces must be combat ready", Maduro said on Friday during his meeting with the country's transportation employees broadcast via Twitter.

The president added that the provocations served to incite a military conflict on the Venezuela-Colombia border in order to draw attention away from the protests taking place in Colombia

Webmaster's Commentary:

I hope like hell Maduro is wrong in his assessment here; that being said, however, given the probable attempted assassination attempt on his life last year Potential assassination attempt made on Venezuela's President Maduro, August 2018, I don't blame the guy for getting more than a little bit concerned here.

THE NEW YORK TIMES' LONG HISTORY OF ENDORSING US-BACKED COUPS

SOURCE: MINT PRESS
BY ALAN MACLEOD
Bolivian President Evo Morales was overthrown in a U.S.-backed military coup d’état earlier this month after Bolivian army generals appeared on television demanding his resignation. As Morales fled to Mexico, the army appointed right-wing Senator Jeanine Añez as his successor. Añez, a Christian conservative who has described Bolivia’s indigenous majority as “satanic”, arrived at the presidential palace holding an oversized Bible, declaring that Christianity was re-entering the government. She immediately announced she would “take all measures necessary” to “pacify” the indigenous resistance to her takeover.
This included pre-exonerating the country’s notorious security services of all future crimes in their “re-establishment of order,” leading to massacres of dozens of mostly indigenous people.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The NY Slimes, is no longer an independent media voice; it has become the eco-chamber of the US government, and vomits up the codswallop the US government wants it to vomit.

For intelligent, independent media, look at the blogs, and look at their track record.

We have a companion piece for this, also from blacklistednews.com,
with the following title: WITH THE RIGHT-WING COUP IN BOLIVIA NEARLY COMPLETE, THE JUNTA IS HUNTING DOWN THE LAST REMAINING DISSIDENTS

And please remember that so far, everything Julian Assange has presented, has never been proven wrong; this is why the US government hates him with such a passion, and hopes to insure that the British government has him "eliminated with extreme prejudice" at Belmarsh, before he ever stands trial here for his alleged "crimes in the US."

ISRAELI GOVERNMENT TO EXPAND GLOBAL ARMS EXPORTS IN 2020

SOURCE: MIDDLE EAST MONITOR
The Israeli government is aiming to increase the volume of Israel’s defence exports, reported Globes, which has revealed the main points of the plan for the first time.

The project, being overseen by the Defence Ministry’s International Defence Cooperation Directorate (SIBAT) led by Brigadier General (Res.) Yair Kulas, will begin to be rolled out in early 2020.

According to Globes, the plan is based on “focused seminars for senior commanders in foreign armies”, Israeli military “assistance for promoting sales of Israeli weapons”, and “subsidising small and medium-sized defence companies seeking to sell arms around the world”.

Speaking this week, Kulas said that SIBAT favours a major expansion of agreements between countries, resulting in significant deals for the large defence companies, especially Elbit Systems, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Rafael Advanced Defence Systems.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Color me unsurprised at this development; but one has to wonder how Israeli weaponry really stands up to that of China or Russia, at this point?!?

Mexico Pushes Back Against Trump Plan To Label Cartels Terror Groups

Trump is weighing a terrorist designation for the cartels, which could open the door for American cross-border attacks on cartel infrastructure and cartel personnel.

According to the Washington Post, under US law, any violent foreign group or individual who "threatens American security" can be designated a terror group and be subjected to sanctions that, in this case, could seriously disrupt commerce between American and Mexican companies.

Riot police are engulfed in flames in Chile as demonstrators hurl petrol bombs during another outbreak of violence in protests that have so far left 24 dead and thousands hurt

Riot police were engulfed in flames as demonstrators hurled petrol bombs during continued protests against the Chilean President.

Thousands of people gathered again yesterday in Plaza Italia, the center of the demonstrations in Santiago, Chile, as part of the ongoing protests that have so far left 24 people dead and an estimated 3,000 people injured.

The demonstrators hurled stones and petrol bombs as they clashed with riot police on the streets who in turn responded with equal force by using tear gas and water cannons.

23 DEAD AS VIOLENT UNREST IN CHILE ENTERS FIFTH WEEK

Looting and demonstrations took place in cities across the South American nation, and an agreement on a political roadmap that will see Chile draft a new constitution has halted neither the anger, nor the bloodshed. Furious Chileans have since October 18 been protesting social and economic inequality, and against an entrenched political elite that comes from a small number of the wealthiest families in the country, among other issues.

The crisis is the worst in three decades of Chilean democracy and has led to around 2,000 injuries, including some 280 people who suffered eye damage from shotgun pellets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This will all come down, to where the police and military sympathies lie; if they lie with the rulers, we can expect a great deal more bloodshed, before the government claims the people "pacified"; if not, it may well be a new, and democratic day, for Chile.

Authorities impose curfew in capital of Colombia, deploy 20k police against protesters

Colombian President Iván Duque instructed the authorities in Bogota to impose an overnight curfew on the entire Colombian capital, as 20,000 uniformed police were deployed to “establish order” amid anti-government protests.
“What we are facing is not a march,” said Bogota Mayor Enrique Peñalosa, announcing the measure on Friday evening, describing the protesters as a small number of “criminals, vandals, looting, stealing and wanting to practically end our city.”

Initially, the curfew was to apply only to Bosa, Kennedy and Ciudad Bolivar – three districts on the south side of the capital, whose residents are primarily poor and working-class Bogotans. The decision to lock them down was made after violence erupted on the sidelines of mass protests against the government’s austerity policies.

Over 200,000 people rallied in Bogota on Thursday. Another 20,000 rallied in Cali, prompting local authorities to impose a curfew there.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF these protestors were"... a small number of “criminals, vandals, looting, stealing and wanting to practically end our city.”, why did Colombian President Iván Duque greenlight the presence of 20,000 police?!?

Sorry, but the numbers and description of those protesting, just doesn't jibe with a call for 20,000 police on the street.

THE CIA HELPED SHAPE ‘TOM CLANCY’S JACK RYAN’ SERIES INTO A BIGOTED VENEZUELA REGIME CHANGE FANTASY

“The CIA is something that we should all not only cherish, but be saying thank you every single day,” Krasinski declared.

“The coolest thing ever for me, I mean I totally nerded out when we got to the CIA,” Krasinski effused. “They were the most unbelievably generous, kind, smart people.”

Krasinski’s comments flowed directly from his experience as the star of the second series of the Amazon series, “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.”

In a new video analysis of the show (embedded at the end of this article), researcher Tom Secker exposed the show as straightforward US imperial propaganda which was produced in direct collaboration with the CIA and Pentagon.

MADURO PLEDGES 30 MILLION BARRELS OF OIL TO BACK PETRO CRYTOCURRENCY

Venezuela will use some 30 million barrels of oil it has in storage as backing for its national cryptocurrency, the petro, Reuters reports, citing a speech by President Nicolas Maduro.

“I will deliver these 30 million of barrels as a liquid, physical, material backing for the petro,” Maduro said on Venezuelan television. “The inventories of crude and products in storage tanks are available for immediate commercialization ... to sustain and back the operations of the sovereign Venezuelan crypto-asset, the petro.”

Earlier this month, Maduro said the petro had more than 27,000 “affiliated businesses” already and the number was expected to increase twofold in the next few months.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congrats, President Trump; your policy toward Venezuela, have pushed it into an even more "tight" economic alliance with China and Russia than ever before, well done, sir!!

(Sigh) Mr. President, a word, please: your, and your Administration's policies toward Venezuela, have been damned near insane.

I would suggest to you, as bluntly as I can politely, that Venezuela is not most probably going to fall further than it already has, because China and Russia will support Maduros in any way they can, stepping in with food, medicine, etc., to keep the situation here for working people no worse than it already is.

And if the petro does succeed, perhaps way beyond Maduros' wildest expectations, you will find another, very solid currency with which the US dollar most probably cannot compete.

So now, what, sir?!?

To any casual observer of American foreign policy, its execution appears to be foreign policy by dart-board; and not all of the players are using the same dart-board, Mr. President; and THAT is where this country can get into one hell of a lot of problems, sir.

China, USA and the Geopolitics of Lithium

For several years since the global push to develop mass-scale Electric Vehicles, the element Lithium has come intofocus as a strategic metal. Bolivia – A Color Revolution – or a New Surge for Latin American Independence?

Like Túpac Katari, indigenous Aymara leader more than 200 years ago, confronting the Spaniards, Evo Morales was betrayed and ‘dismembered’ by his own people, recruited and paid by the agents of the most destructive, nefarious and murderous dark elite that governs and has governed for over two hundred years our planet, the United States of America. With their worthless fiat-Ponzi-pyramid money, the made-out-of-thin-air US dollar, they create poverty throughout the globe, then buy off the weak and poor to plot against the very leaders that have worked for years to improve their social conditions.

Bolivia’s U.S.-backed Coup Government Has Given the Military a License to Kill Protestors

The de facto and unelected president of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez, signed a decree that exempts all military personnel from being criminally responsible, even in the cases of murder, in the midst of demonstrations against the coup d’etat that ousted democratically elected first Indigenous President of Bolivia, Evo Morales. Effectively, Bolivian security forces have a license to kill now.
