Cruise missile strike onto Syrian airbase ordered by President Trump

At around 3:35 a.m. local time 50-60 Tomahawk missiles struck an airbase in retaliation to Monday’s ‘chemical attack.’

At 10 p.m. EST, President Trump, speaking from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, called Monday’s gas attack in Syria “very barbaric” and said it was the duty of the United States to deter the use of chemical weapons.

U.S. Launches Tomahawk Missiles Against Syrian Government

By Brandon Turbeville

Shortly after the chemical weapons incident in Syria, Donald Trump paraded himself in front of the world posing as emotionally distraught over the deaths of “beautiful babies” in Syria as a result of what he claimed was a Syrian government chemical attack. Of course, while no one knows definitively who was responsible for the attack, it is clear that the Syrian government was not the responsible party. At best, a weapons depot was bombed that was housing chemical weapons belonging to Western-backed terrorists...

Update: Washington has reopened the conflict with a Tomahawk missile attack on Syrian Air Force Bases. The Russian/Syrian air defense systems did not prevent the attack.

The Washington Establishment has reasserted control. First Flynn and now Bannon. All that are left in the Trump administration are the Zionists and the crazed generals who want war with Russia, China, Iran, Syria, and North Korea.

There is no one in the White House to stop them.

Dozens of U.S. Missiles Hit Air Base in Syria

The United States carried out a missile attack in Syria on Thursday night in response to the Syrian government’s chemical weapons attack this week that killed more than 80 civilians, American officials said.

Dozens of Tomahawk missiles were fired at an air base in Syria, military officials said.

It was the first time that the White House had ordered military action against forces loyal to the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad.

Trump Weighs Military "Saturation Strike" In Syria, Resulting In Russian Deaths

The Pentagon has briefed President Trump on various military options the US can conduct in response to the poison gas attack in Syria that killed scores of civilians, and which Washington has blamed on the Syrian government, a U.S. official told Reuters.

Options include things like implementing a "no fly zone" or grounding aircraft used by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces, an official quoted by Reuters said.

Another option also includes the use of Tomahawk cruise missiles to overwhelm Russian air defense systems used by the Syrian military. The official did not comment on how likely military action might be which, if any, options might be recommended by the Pentagon. According to the Intercept, this would be a “saturation strike” using dozens of cruise missiles designed to hit Syrian military targets —including military air fields — in an effort to limit future Syrian Air Force attacks on rebel positions, according to the two U.S. military officials.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Will someone please tell me that this a very bad, belated April Food's joke, and that President Trump is not seriously considering doing this?!?

This kind of bombing of Syria, creating Russian casualties, will most likely get the Russians to declare war on the US, and we're off and running toward a military conflict the US government most likely cannot win, given the state of the US military's weapons; its troop strength; its money; and its manufacturing.

Evidence Calls Western Narrative About Syrian Chemical Attack Into Question

On April 3rd, 2017, an anti-Assad journalist tweeted that the next day he would be launching a media campaign to cover airstrikes on the Hama countryside, including the use of chemical weapons. It is not clear how the reporter was able to know that chemical weapons would be used an entire day before the attacks occurred.

Observers further noted that on April 1st, 2017, a doctor on the ground in Khan Sheikhoun, Dr. Shajul Islam, had received several shipments of gas masks in the days running up to the chemical incident. The revelations on Twitter fueled speculation that opposition figures were aware of the chemical attack days before it actually happened, contesting the narrative that the Syrian government was responsible.

Trump says of Assad: "Something should happen"

President Trump blamed the chemical attack in Syria squarely on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, saying, “I think what Assad did is terrible.”

Travelling on Air Force One to Florida, Mr. Trump told reporters the attack “shouldn’t have happened” and “shouldn’t be allowed to happen.” Asked directly whether Assaid should leave power, the president said, “I think what happened in Syria is a disgrace to humanity. He’s there and I guess he’s running things, so something should happen.”

He called the attack that resulted in the death of at least 72 people “one of the truly egregious crimes.” Mr. Trump denied reports that he had told any members of Congress that he planned to use military action in Syria.

FLASHBACK - Seymour Hersh Says Hillary Approved Sending Libya's Sarin To Syrian Rebels

The great investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, in two previous articles in the London Review of Books ("Whose Sarin?" and "The Red Line and the Rat Line") has reported that the Obama Administration falsely blamed the government of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad for the sarin gas attack that Obama was trying to use as an excuse to invade Syria; and Hersh pointed to a report from British intelligence saying that the sarin that was used didn’t come from Assad’s stockpiles. Hersh also said that a secret agreement in 2012 was reached between the Obama Administration and the leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, to set up a sarin gas attack and blame it on Assad so that the US could invade and overthrow Assad.

"By the terms of the agreement, funding came from Turkey, as well as Saudi Arabia and Qatar; the CIA, with the support of MI6, was responsible for getting arms from Gaddafi’s arsenals into Syria."

The East Ghouta Chemical Attacks (2013): US-Backed False Flag? Killing Syrian Children to Justify a “Humanitarian” Military Intervention

The recent Syria Chemical Weapons attack is being blamed on the Syrian government without a shred of evidence. This is not the first time that a chemical weapons attack has been used as a “False Flag” with a view to justifying Washington alleged ‘war on terrorism”. The East Ghouta False Flag Chemical Attacks (August 21, 2013), was used to build a pretext by the Obama administration and its NATO allies to launch a “humanitarian war” against Syria, on the grounds that the Syrian government was killing their own people. This event was part of the build up towards the launching of Obama’s bombing campaign against Syria and Iraq in 2014 on the grounds that it was “going after the ISIS”. This article was first published in September 2014.

Scott Adams: The Syrian Gas Attack Persuasion

According to the mainstream media – that has been wrong about almost everything for a solid 18 months in a row – the Syrian government allegedly bombed its own people with a nerve agent.

The reason the Assad government would bomb its own people with a nerve agent right now is obvious. Syrian President Assad – who has been fighting for his life for several years, and is only lately feeling safer – suddenly decided to commit suicide-by-Trump. Because the best way to make that happen is to commit a war crime against your own people in exactly the way that would force President Trump to respond or else suffer humiliation at the hands of the mainstream media.

5 POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS FOR TRUMP’S REMARKS ON SYRIA

Speaking next to Jordan’s King Abdullah, Donald Trump said that the chemical weapons attack changed his position on Syria. He seemed to believe the fake news story that it was the Syrian government that dropped chemical weapons, rather than the forensically realistic explanation provided by Russia which explained that an illegal chemical weapons depot, where terrorists hoarded their explosives, was hit during an airstrike.

When asked about his sudden about face, Trump relied,

“I do change, and I am flexible. I am proud of that flexibility”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ivanka Trump, a word, please, and I am begging you on this: do not allow your dad, our President to "swallow the Koolaid" on this issue.

In a Russian brokered deal in 2013, all of Syria's chemical weapons were destroyed.

Syria's chemical weapons were destroyed

And the big, logical question is, qui bono?!? Who benefits?!?

And it surely as heck is not Bashar Al Assad, when Rex Tillerson said a couple of days ago, that Assad could remain, and our major headache in Syria was ISIS.

So who benefits?!?

1. The jihadists who were armed by the previous administration, who did this as a "false flag" to get your Dad angry enough against the Al-Assad government to start talking regime change.

2. The war hawks in this administration who want to see the US military do a decap strike against Damascus, which will almost inevitably lead to war with Russia.

And Ms. Trump, this would be a very lousy idea, and for the following reasons; in its current state, the US military does not have the troop strength; the weaponry; the manufacturing; or the money to insure a positive outcome to a war against Russia over Syria.

The weapons manufacturing culture in this country has to change; it should not longer be acceptable to deliver weapons so behind the curve that by the time they are field deployed, they are obsolete, and have incredible cost over-runs attached.

Russia and China are getting far better value for their weaponry dollars than does the US military, and I have one big, fat example to share with you on this; the F-35.

The Pentagon's New List of F-35 Bugs Is Predictably Awful

Our American military should no longer have to put up with flying turkeys like this, and if corporate heads need to roll to cure this, so be it!!

As the Western media and political leaders run to convict the Syrian Government in the court of political opinion over a recent alleged ‘Chemical Attack‘ in the Idlib Province in northwestern Syria this week, pr-war pundits across the US spectrum are attempting to rewrite history by falsely claiming that “Assad has crossed the Red Line again and must be stopped.” Once again, media charlatans and pro-war political opportunists are attempting to revise the events of August 21, 2013 in the Damascus suburb of the East Ghouta where a proven False Flag attack took place and which was subsequently used to build-up a pretext for the Obama and Cameron governments along their NATO, Gulf state allies to launch a new ‘humanitarian war’ against Syria – on the grounds that the Syrian government was “killing their own people.”

Assad sets himself up by using chemical weapons? Not

"Every time we have a moment in which the international community is capable of being together, there is someone, somehow that tries to undermine that feeling of hope by producing a feeling of horror and outrage," UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura said. "But we are not going to give up. On the contrary, we make use of all these horror moments to show they cannot prevail," he added.

However, many experts say that Assad's troops could not conduct such an attack. It was either terrorists or the Syrian opposition who could use chemical weapons.

"Now the media are trumpeting that it was Assad's troops that used chemical weapons in Idlib. This is absolute nonsense, because it is Russian headquarters that supervise all combat actions in the region. Assad will not be able to use any aircraft unless the Russian command in Hmeymim gives permission for this. Some say that it was the Russians, who used chemical weapons, but those who say this need to have their heads examined immediately.

Chemical Weapons 2017: What Just Happened In Syria?

By Brandon Turbeville

Yet again, on cue, the Western corporate press is on fire with stories of “Assad’s brutality,” and “chemical weapons” attacks against civilians. Obviously, the United States, NATO, and their media mouthpieces are united in condemnation of the Assad government and the Syrian military despite their being no evidence that it committed the attacks. Indeed, the Western powers may blame Assad all they want but all the available credible evidence suggests that the deployment of chemical weapons this time around, like all the others before it, was the work of terrorists and their supporters.

But the evidence does not matter to propagandists and, despite the public appearance that the U.S. President is battling the Deep State apparatus, it seems now that the Deep State and the head of the country are now finally reading from the same page...

Fake Chem Attack in Syria, Oscar Winners White Helmets with memorable performance

"....White Helmets are handling the corpses of people without sufficient safety gear, most particularly with the masks mostly used, as well as no gloves. Although this may seem insignificant, understanding the nature of sarin gas that the opposition claim was used, only opens questions.

Within seconds of exposure to sarin, the affects of the gas begins to target the muscle and nervous system. There is an almost immediate release of the bowels and the bladder, and vomiting is induced.

When sarin is used in a concentrated area, it has the likelihood of killing thousands of people. Yet, such a dangerous gas, and the White Helmets are treating bodies with little concern to their exposed skin(!?) This has to raise questions. It also raises the question why a doctor in a hospital full of victims of sarin gas has the time to tweet and make video calls. This will probably be dismissed and forgotten however".

Trump: Syria's Assad ‘crossed a lot of lines’ with gas attack

PATHETIC! Trump is a total phony. He is breaking Obama's records for lies!
WW3 here we come.

President Trump is signaling a more aggressive approach toward Syria, saying on Wednesday reports of a deadly gas attack by forces loyal to Bashar Assad had “crossed a lot of lines” and moved him to rethink his strategy.

At a joint press conference on Wednesday at the White House with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Trump indicated that the Syrian leader had gone too far with an attack this week that killed dozens of his own people and injured scores more, including women and children.

“It crossed a lot of lines for me,” Trump said. “When you kill innocent children, innocent babies, little babies with a chemical gas that is so lethal that people were shocked to hear what gas it was, that crosses many lines beyond the red line. Many, many lines.”

Trump Blames Assad For Chemical Attack, Says His Attitude On Syria & Assad Has 'Changed Very Much'

President Trump blamed Bashar al-Assad's regime for the chemical attack in Syria at a press conference on Wednesday and said his views on Syria and Assad have now "changed very much."

The hawkish rhetoric came just hours after it came out Steve Bannon was removed from the National Security Council, presumably at the request of neocon General H.R. McMaster.

"Yesterday chemical attack, a chemical attack so horrific in Syria against innocent people including women, small children, and even beautiful little babies, their deaths was an affront to humanity. These heinous actions by the Assad regime cannot be tolerated," Trump said before reporters on the White House lawn.

He failed to offer any evidence.

Watch - Russian, U.S. UK And Syria Speaking At UN Emergency Meeting

President Donald Trump's envoy threatened unilateral U.S. action if the world body failed to act. "There are times in the life of states that we are compelled to take our own action," Haley declared

Russia's Foreign Ministry has rejected a draft UN Security Council resolution condemning an apparent chemical-weapons attack in Syria’s Idlib Province that left dozens killed and injured.

Moscow said that the poison gas belonged to rebels and had leaked from an insurgent weapons depot hit by Syrian bombs.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 5 that the resolution -- drafted by the United States, Britain, and France -- was "categorically unacceptable" and obviously was drawn up in haste.

Leaders and officials in other countries, including Britain and Israel, joined the U.S. in saying Assad's forces were responsible.

REDUX: Western Lies and Chemical False Flag Attacks in Syria

It’s clear after a review of the available evidence thus far, that western media and politicians who are condemning the Syrian government and Russia for “chemical attacks” – are spreading fake news in order to gain political backing for a wider military intervention.

Watch CNN’s Chris Cuomo as he attempts to litigate a fictitious verdict which happens to fit perfectly into the US pro-war and ‘No Fly Zone’ narrative being echoed by ‘regime change’ hawks John McCain and Adam Kinzinger on their same network today, and further echoed by more demagoguery from CNN’s Syria ‘experts’ Arwa Damon and Clarissa Ward as they blame the Syrian government with no evidence whatsoever. This segment by CNN is the very definition of propaganda:

Something is Not Adding Up In Idlib Chemical Weapons Attack

“At least 58 people were killed in an alleged horrific gas attack in the Idlib Governorate this morning“. However, even before investigations could be conducted and for evidence to emerge, Federica Mogherini, the Italian politician High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, condemned the Syrian government stating that the “Assad regime bears responsibility for ‘awful’ Syria ‘chemical’ attack.”

The immediate accusation from a high ranking EU official serves as a dangerous precedent where public outcry can be made even before the truth surrounding the tragedy can emerge

Israeli President, Benjamin Netanyahu, joined in on the condemnation, as did Amnesty International.

Merely hours after the alleged chemical weapons attack in Khan Sheikhun, supposedly by the Syrian government, holes are beginning to emerge from opposition sources, discrediting the Al-Qaeda affiliated White Helmets claims.

Reviving the ‘Chemical Weapons’ Lie: New US-UK Calls for Regime Change, Military Attack Against Syria

Here it comes again. As the enemies of peace continue to pressure a new US President into deeper war commitments overseas, and as Washington’s Deep State works relentlessly opposing Russian moves in Syria at every turn, the war drums have started again – beating harder than ever now, clamouring for a new US-led attack on Syria. This morning we saw the familiar theme emerge, and just in time to provide a convenient backdrop to this week’s Brussels’ ‘Peace Talks’ and conference on “Syria’s Future”.

The US-led ‘Coalition’ prepares to make its end-run into Syria to ‘Retake Raqqa,’ and impose its Safe Zones in order to partition Syria, more media demonization of the Syrian government appears to be needed by the West.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Have all these presstitute outlets "conveniently forgotten" that the Syrian government had all of its chemical weapons destroyed in 2013, in a deal brokered by Russia?!?

Destruction of Syria's chemical weapons

What this is feeling like to me is "Assad has gassed his own people AGAIN, 2.0", to make the way clear, and "justify" US-military engineered no-fly zones and air strikes, through which to attempt regime change in Damascus.

Of course, the Russians may have other ideas on this.....

And if President Trump believes that the US military could, in fact, win a military conflict against Russia over Syria, I would implore him to please think again, and very carefully.

Because at this time in its history, the US military does not have the weaponry; the money; the troop strength; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia over Syria; it's just not there.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – APRIL 5, 2017: SITUATION ESCALATES IN WESTERN SYRIA

In the province of Raqqah, an intense fighting is ongoing in the village of Safsafah northeast of the town of Tabqah, controlled by ISIS. The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are struggling to secure this site in order to fully encircle Tabqah. In turn, ISIS terrorists have launched a series of attacks in order to prevent this. According to pro-SDF sources, over 20 ISIS members have been killed in the recent clashes in the area.

It’s clear that despite ISIS counter-attacks the SDF, backed up by the US-led coalition’s warplanes, helicopters, artillery and military advisors, have enough military capabilities to lay a siege on Tabqa and to retake this town from ISIS. When the town of Tabqa and the nearby dam are secured, US-led forces will likely advance against ISIS terrorists along the Euphrates outflanking the ISIS stronghold of Raqqah from the southern direction.

Russia denies Assad to blame for chemical attack, on course for collision with Trump

Russia denied on Wednesday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was to blame for a poison gas attack and said it would continue to back him, opening a rift between the Kremlin and Donald Trump's White House, which initially sought warmer ties.

Western countries, including the United States, blamed Assad's armed forces for the worst chemical attack in Syria for more than four years, which choked scores of people to death in the town of Khan Sheikhoun in a rebel-held area on Tuesday.

Washington said it believed the deaths were caused by sarin nerve gas dropped by Syrian aircraft. But Moscow offered an alternative explanation that would shield Assad: that the poison gas belonged to rebels and had leaked from an insurgent weapons depot hit by Syrian bombs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I'm sorry, but if Trump actually believes Assad would gas his own people just days after being told by Tillerson that Trump would not oppose his continuing Presidency, then Trump is an idiot!

President Trump Has It Wrong on Syria – Assad Did NOT Use Chemical Weapons – Deep State Neo Cons Misleading the President…

We’ve covered the hidden story of manipulation within Syria quite extensively. And in the example today of Chemical Weapons being used against the Syrian People, all indications do not point toward Bashir Assad doing it.

The entire event looks like an horrific operation by anti-Assad forces trying to create assistance for their regime change efforts by killing their own people. Yes, they are that desperate; and yes, there are vested interests in the U.S., including the CIA, who would support such an objective.

US Envoy: Syrians Don’t Want Assad as Leader

Last week, US officials suggested what was seemingly a major policy change, insisting that the future of Syrian President Bashar Assad was up to the Syrian people, and that the US was accepting “reality” in moving away from demands for Assad’s ouster.

Today, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley dialed that change back quite a bit, insisting that “Assad is always a priority,” and that the US wants to see him changed as a war criminal. She also dismissed the idea of Assad participating in future elections, insisting that the Syrians “don’t want” Assad anymore.

This may result in the US policy change being a distinction without a difference, as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s call to respect the will of the Syrian people doesn’t count for much if it is the Trump Administration themselves who get to decide what the Syrian people’s will is.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Another "fact-free assessment" of what the Syrian people want, paving the way to more war, and ultimate regime change.

I have to wonder just how quickly the Trump Administration will institute "no fly zones" in Syria, which will put the US and Russian military into a definite, physical clash.

So sir, if Syria has no more chemical weapons, as they were destroyed toward the end of 2013, where did these chemical weapons come from, please?!?

And how in the name of heaven can you be blaming Iran for this, as neither Russia nor Iran nor Syria bear any responsibility for this horrific act?!?

TRUMP ON COLLISION COURSE WITH PUTIN AFTER MOSCOW DENIES SYRIA BEHIND CHEMICAL ATTACK

For the first time since his election, president Trump is set for a direct collision course with Vladimir Putin after Russia said on Wednesday it stands by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad despite widespread popular outrage over a chemical weapons attack which the media was quick to pin on the Syrian president, in a carbon-copy of events from 2013 which nearly launched a US invasion of the middle-eastern nation, when a YouTube clip - subsequently shown to be a hoax - served as proof that Assad had used sarin gas on rebels in a Damascus neighborhood.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And do we remember what happened when the US government made the accusation in 2013 that Assad had gassed his own people?!?

Through a Russian-brokered program, Syria then reached an agreement to have all of its chemical weapons destroyed.

U.S. and Russia Reach Deal to Destroy Syria’s Chemical Arms

The US has, and deploys/sells, various chemical weapons around the world. White phosphorus?!? No problem.

Saudis appear to be using US supplied white phosphorus in Yemen

Depleted uranium weapons, again provided to Saudi Arabia to be used against Yemeni civilians?!? No problem.

Massive birth defects in Yemen point to Saudi Arabia using depleted uranium weapons.

So if all the Syrian chemical weapons were destroyed at the end of 2013, where did these chemical weapons come from?!?

And why in heaven's name would Assad gas his own people, particularly right after Secretary of State Tillerson announced that regime change was not on the table at this time?!?

The short answers are, somehow, Syrian jihadists got these weapons from the US, and no, al-Assad would not gas his own people!!!

And UN Ambassador Haley, a word please; Americans, and the world, are remembering that the US, working with Russia, got rid of Syria's chemical weapons stockpile in 2013.

To attempt to pin this on Al-Assad, as the excuse for now going in to "regime change" Syria, will make this country already a worse bad joke around the world than it already is.

No Evidence That Khan Sheikhoun Gas Attack Resulted From Aerial Bombardment

The news of the incident were allegedly forwarded by the controversial White Helmets and the Syrian Observatory for Human Right. Both NGOs are notorious for their association with the terrorist groups... The village of Khan Shaikhoun itself is located on the administrative border between the provinces of Hama and Idlib. The notorious organisation White Helmets published photo and video material, claiming that gas attack caused deaths of more than 50 civilians, mostly adolescents due to suffocation from chemical substances that were “fired from the air”, while blaming the Russian and Syrian Air Force. However, it failed to provide evidence that the gas attack was the result of an aerial bombardment. In the meantime, the Turkish government closed the Bab Al Hama border crossing, thus refusing ambulances, coming from the direction of Khan Sheikhoun, to enter Turkish territory.

As a spokesman for the Syrian government troops said, the operation involved Sukhoi Su-22 fighter bombers that cannot carry chemical weapons. The news agency Reuters reported earlier on Tuesday, citing the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that an air strike by Syrian or Russian jets had allegedly killed 58 people, including 11 children. As Reuters said, the air strike could have been carried out by the Syrian government forces in a suspected gas attack. US to balkanize Syria under Kurdish pretext

As early as 2013, Western powers have been rooting for the balkanization of Syria as the best possible outcome of the war tearing apart the country since 2011.
Trends
Islamic State, Syria unrest
Since the war against Syria is significant in this period of imperialism, watching how it was led by the US, imperialist proxies and their so-called allies, one can fully understand that the war against the Syrian Arab Republic has been decades in the making.

Throughout history, the imperialist powers have been facilitating and empowering the most intolerant, bigoted ideologies and groups in the region starting from the Balfour Declaration, passing through the infamous Sykes-Picot agreement and ending in the invasions of Iraq and Libya before making their way into Syria. The latest group to gain the full support of the US on the ground in Syria is the Syrian Kurdish YPG forces (People's Protection Units).

Haley was asked about U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's remarks in the Turkish capital Ankara on Thursday, in which he said that Assad's status would be decided by the Syrian people.

She said it does not mean the United States will accept Assad participating in future elections.

ERDOGAN PROMISES MORE WAR IN SYRIA

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s rhetoric is at times, oddly honest, sometimes blatantly so. At other times, when he attempts to be more analytical, it is as deceptive as his political and geo-political manoeuvring.

Last year, Erdogan gave an speech in which he declared his unambiguous intentions to capture former territories of the Ottoman Empire, specifically parts of the legal territory of Syria and Iraq.

Now, he has said that his illegal invasion and occupation of Syria is not over; it are merely changing names.

Turkey’s Operation Euphrates Shield which saw Turkish forces and their jihadist proxies FSA occupy parts of Northern Syria was officially declared a success in a ‘mission accomplished’ style statement from Turkey’s National Security Council.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why Erdogan felt emboldened to make such threats, right after Tillerson's visit to Ankara, is more than a little disconcerting.

An independent Kurdistan would give Turkey a "safety valve" through which much of its disagreements with ethnic Kurds in Turkey, could be resolved.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S REVERSAL OF OBAMA ERA POLICY IN SYRIA

The editor-in-chief of Lebanon’s prestigious al-Akhbar newspaper, Ibrahim al-Amin, has revealed in his recent editorial [1] that Tulsi Gabbard, the United States Representative for Hawaii whose trip to Syria in January and meeting with Bashar al-Assad was widely reported in media, had conveyed President Trump’s offer of cooperation to Assad during the meeting.

The English translation of a relevant excerpt from the Arabic editorial reads as follows:

Tulsi Gabbard asked Assad: “If President Trump contacted you, would you answer the call?” Assad replied: “Is this a hypothetical question, or a proposal?” Gabbard: “It’s not hypothetical. This is a question to you coming from President Trump which he asked me to convey to you. So let me repeat the question: If President Trump contacted you, would you answer the call?” Assad replied: “Of course. And I’ll give you a number where I can be reached quickly.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, this report is true, it does signal a shift in policy on Syria, and the recent statement by Rex Tillerson that "Bashar Al-Assad can stay" as Syria's president, appears to be supportive to this narrative.

The editorial in Arabic is full of detailed accounts of Gabbard's conversations with Assad, her airport handlers, security detail, etc. Although al-Akhbar newspaper generally takes the side of the Assad regime against the Syrian opposition but its reporting over the years, particularly on the conflict in Syria, has been fairly balanced, insightful and highly credible.

Syrianna Analysis: “On the German DW-TV channel, Julian Assange said there is a serious conflict between President Donald Trump and the CIA over Syria. The CIA and other security apparatuses don’t want him to change the foreign policy of Washington towards Syria.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the military escalation isn't coming from Trump, but the defiant intelligence community!

Trump's Shift on Assad Gives Hope to Syria, Prompts McCain's Resentment

Washington's foreign policy shift toward Syria apparently signals that the Trump administration has recognized that their predecessors' Syrian strategy was highly inefficient. It also shows that the White House is likely to adopt a more pragmatic stance toward Damascus.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I love to see McCain pissed off! :)

U.S. Says It Is No Longer Interested In Forcing Assad To Step Down; Focused On ISIS Instead

By Brandon Turbeville

After showing signs of ratcheting up the Obama war policy against Syria and the government of Bashar al-Assad, the U.S. government has released an official statement that has shocked many on both the pro-Syria and opposition sides. According to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, the United States is no longer concerned with forcing Assad to leave power and instead will be focused on “defeating ISIS.”

“You pick and choose your battles and when we’re looking at this, it’s about changing up priorities and our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out,” she told a small group of reporters...

STEINITZ TO JPOST: IRAN’S TRACTION IN SYRIA A GREATER THREAT TO ISRAEL THAN ISIS

As world powers focus on toppling ISIS, Iran is quietly gaining traction in Syria – posing a direct threat to Israel, eastern Mediterranean countries and the entire Arabian Peninsula, according to National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Minister Yuval Steinitz.

“It’s very easy and convenient to focus on ISIS,” he told The Jerusalem Post. “But we have two challenges in Syria.

One is ISIS and one is Iran.

The greater threat is coming from Iran, and not just from its nuclear program. The most immediate and urgent threat is the Iranian plan to transform Syria, after this horrible, brutal civil war is over, into some kind of extension of Iran.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is both interesting that Yuval makes this fact-free charge, and that the alleged JP journalist recording the interview does not challenge him on this.

While it is true that Russia has used an Iranian base from which to stage bombing raids in Syria last year,

However, Iran has no permanent bases in Syria, and in fact, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has been foaming at the mouth recently about an alleged Iranian Naval base in Syria...which does not exist.

And BTW, if you have not seen this video, please do so. It was done by a very charming, bright Israeli videographer, who decided to travel to Iran, and determine how the Jewish people in Iran are doing; the short answer is, they're thriving.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MARCH 31, 2017: GOVT FORCES REGAIN LARGE AREAS IN NORTHERN HAMA

Government forces have restored control over Khirbat al-Hajamah, Zawr al Bala, Bakhira, Arzeh and Balhiseen from the joint militant forces led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in northern Hama. The advances were made because of an advantage in artillery and airpower in the area. The Syrian army’s Tiger Forces, the National Defense Forces and the 5th Legion entered Majdal, Tell Bijo and Khattab. But these sites still have to be secured.

The control over the strategic Mount Zayn al-Abdeen would allow government troops to further pound militant units operating in the area north of Qhomana.
