US signals involvement in Syria could escalate

The United States is inching closer to involvement in the Syrian civil war after U.S. forces shot down a Syrian fighter jet on Sunday.

The incident is the fourth time in as many weeks that the United States has shot at pro-Syrian-government forces, and it carries the potential for further escalation — particularly with Russia threatening to target U.S. aircraft that fly into parts of
Syria.

Australia suspends air missions over Syria amid US-Russia tensions

Australia has suspended air combat missions over Syria after Russia threatened that it would treat any plane from the US-led coalition flying west of the Euphrates river as a potential target.

Russia said it was responding to US planes shooting down a Syrian air force jet on Sunday. The US said its planes had acted to defend US-backed forces seeking to capture Raqqa, the Islamic State (Isis) stronghold in north-east Syria.

“As a precautionary measure, Australian defence force strike operations into Syria have temporarily ceased,” the Australian Department of Defence said on Tuesday.

Australia has six fighter jets based in the United Arab Emirates that strike targets in Syria and Iraq.

US JETS SHOOT DOWN ‘IRANIAN DRONE’ IN SYRIA - COALITION

An Iranian-made drone was shot down by a US F-15 fighter jet in southern Syria, near At Tanf, the US-led coalition said. It is the fifth time in the past month the US has struck at forces allied with the Syrian government in the area.
An armed Shaheed-129 UAV “displayed hostile intent and advanced on Coalition forces” at 12:30 am local time on Tuesday, the coalition said in a statement. The drone was observed in the same area where another UAV was shot down on June 8.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please: this slouching toward a war with Iran and Russia over Syria is a really, really, bad idea.

Your foreign policy (if, in fact, you have truly crafted it, and it is not some Frankenstinian creation of the Deep State in this country) is writing checks our American military cannot cash.

And I say that with absolute respect for our military; but right at this point in its history, it doesn't have the money; the weaponry; the manufacturing; or the troop strength to insure a positive outcome against Russia and Iran in conventional warfare.

Kurdish Politician: Syrian Fighter Jet Shot by US Not in Anti-SDF Operation

A Kurdish political analyst disclosed that Syria's fighter jet downed by the US-led coalition warplanes in Raqqa had not targeted any position of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Raqqa.

"The phrase used by the US shows that the Syrian warplane had not tried to hit the SDF positions and therefore the Damascus government's version of the story about the attacks on ISIL's positions is correct," Member of the Syrian Democratic Council Rizan Hadu said.

He said it is at this point that the US cannot make any lame excuses as it is trying to deteriorate the relations between the Syrian army and the SDF. "This issue will have negative effects on the conditions of Qamishli, Aleppo and Afrin and it will cause the Syrian army and the SDF to enter a marginal war which will be harmful to the war on terrorism.

Syrian Jet Downed by US-Led Coalition before Any Operation

Al-Mayadeen news channel quoted informed sources as saying that the Syrian fighter jet's downing happened 15 minutes after it took off and before it started anti-ISIL military operations in al-Rasafah region.

It added that the fighter jet was targeted as it was flying along with the Russian warplanes and they fully monitored the US attack on the Syrian fighter jet.

On Sunday, a Syrian fighter jet engaged in operations against the ISIL in Raqqa was downed by the US-led coalition warplane.

Damascus confirmed the report on Sunday, stressing that the US-led coalition has shot down one of its bomber during a mission in Raqqa countryside.

Collapsing Terrorists Attacking Civilians All Over Syria

As always during the time of their severest losses, the terrorists were attacking civilians all over Syria.

At least two people were killed and eight others left injured after ISIS terrorists shelled Al Qusour neighborhood of Deir Ez Zour city. Material damaged to public and private properties was caused as well.

In Damascus, 4 people were injured after mortar shells were fired on several neighborhoods throughout the city.

It is noteworthy that these actions come in a grave violation of the newly established Russian memorandum on de-escalation zones.

12 Civilians Dead After "Anti-ISIS" Coalition Forces Strike a Residential Area in Northeastern Syria

At least 12 people, all of them from a single family were killed, after aircrafts of the US-led so-called “anti-ISIS” international coalition attacked the residential areas in Tal Al Shayer, a town located in the southeastern countryside of the northeastern Syrian town of Hasakeh, close to Iraqi border.

The latest atrocity happened on Monday night.

Despite once again targeting civilians, no criticism was drawn by the UN Security Council or any other international body.

UNITED STATES SIGNALS INTENTION TO OCCUPY EASTERN SYRIA AND DIVIDE THE NATION

The US version of the incident goes like this (courtesy of The Hill)…

A statement from the U.S. military said it shot down the Syrian SU-22 in self-defense and after contacting Russian counterparts through the established deconfliction zone. The Syrian aircraft was bombing U.S.-backed forces fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) south of Tabqa. It was the first time the United States has shot down a Syrian plane, and the first time a U.S. military jet has shot down any manned aircraft since 1999.
The reality is much more complex, yet simpler. Syria was flying its jets over Syrian sovereign territory, moving to attack Al Qaeda jihadists (aka “moderate rebels”) operating illegally in Syrian territory, and backed up by US forces, which have set up operations illegally within Syrian sovereign territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is officially horrible.

There are those elements in the American Deep State which are salivating over the prospect of war with Russia and Iran; they are, unfortunately, completely, certifiably delusional, because at this point in our military's history, our military not have the weaponry; the money; the troop strength; or the manufacturing to ensure a positive outcome of a conventional war with Russia.

Yes, the US government spends a great deal for its weapons; but it winds up with the kinds of military nightmares like the F/A-18 Hornet, which may well be causing Sec Def Mattis some sleepless nights.

ISRAEL SECRETLY PAYING SALARIES OF SYRIAN REBELS ON GOLAN HEIGHTS BORDER: REPORT

Israel is secretly supporting Syrian rebels operating near its occupied Golan Heights territory, providing money, food, fuel and medical supplies, according to fighters who claim to receive the aid.

Israel has previously treated wounded Syrian rebels in its hospitals but interviews with rebels conducted by the Wall Street Journal suggest that Israel is directly supporting opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the six-year-long civil war.

Israel is opposed to the rule of Assad and his forces. It also sees militants belonging to Lebanese militia Hezbollah who support Assad’s regime forces as posing a threat to its security on the Golan Heights border.

Why has Israel embraced al-Qaida’s branch in Syria?

The Israeli prime minister’s crude attempts to conflate ISIS with Hamas should not be allowed to conceal an important truth: Israel aids the forces of “militant Islam” when it is considered opportune to do so.

The most egregious example of such aid in recent times has been Israel’s support for Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaida’s franchise in Syria, as witnessed by UN peacekeeping forces stationed in the occupied Golan Heights.

Israel’s collusion with al-Qaida has been virtually ignored by the American media, with a few exceptions. For example, The Wall Street Journal reported in March that Israel has been treating wounded al-Nusra fighters and then sending them back into the Golan to battle Hizballah and the Syrian army.

URGENT: Syrian Soldiers Expel ISIL from Strategic Town in Raqqa; Resafa Freed

This is the key cross roads on the way to Raqqa! Now it will get interesting.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army captured the key town of Resafa after fierce clashes with the terrorists in Western Raqqa, forcing a large number of the terrorists to retreat from their positions towards other areas in the province.

Syrian soldiers managed to liberate the important town and the crossroads of Resafa in Southwestern Raqqa.

A military source, meantime, announced that Damascus troops are currently defusing the mines and bombs planted by the ISIL terrorists in the town.

Now that they have captured Resafa, Army troops are able to secure the path to Deir Ezzur as Resafa is the junction of the roads from Raqqa city and Deir Ezzur province.

Syria Summary - U.S. Attack Fails To Disrupt Push To Deir Ezzor

Our last summary said that the end of the war in Syria is now in sight:

Unless the U.S. changes tact and starts a large scale attack on Syria with its own army forces the war on Syria is over.
There are a few civilian lunatics in the White House who push for widening the war on Syria into an all out U.S.-Iran war. The military leadership is pushing back. It fears for its forces in Iraq and elsewhere in the larger area. But there are also elements within the U.S. military and the CIA that take a more aggressive pro-war position.

Yesterday a U.S. F-18 jet shot down a Syrian air force bomber near the city of Raqqa. The U.S. Central Command ludicrously claims that this was in "self defense" of its invading forces and its Kurdish proxies (Syria Democratic Forces - SDF) within a "deconflicting zone" in the town of Jardin.

World On The Precipice As Russia Threatens To Shoot Down U.S. Jets, U.S. Refuses To Back Down

By Brandon Turbeville

The world is now perhaps closer to World War Three than it has been in five decades as the situation in Syria is heating up yet again. In less than 24 hours, the United States has attacked the Syrian military, Iran has launched missiles into Syria, Russia is threatening to shoot down American planes, and the United States is digging in its heels and threatening to continue to provoke both the Russians and the Syrians.

While that about sums up the current micro-version of the situation, it’s important to get a rundown of just what led up to the precipice we are all standing on...

US Moves Jets to Ease Syria Tensions After Russian Threat

The American-led military coalition in Syria said it’s repositioned aircraft after Russia threatened to treat its warplanes as targets in response to the U.S. downing of a Syrian government jet.

While air support to U.S.-backed fighters against Islamic State will go on, “as a result of recent encounters involving pro-Syrian Regime and Russian forces, we have taken prudent measures to reposition aircraft over Syria,” U.S. Army Col. Ryan Dillon, a coalition spokesman, said Monday. Coalition aircraft will continue operations against Islamic State targets “while ensuring the safety of our aircrew given known threats in the battlespace,” he said.

Syrian "Rebels" In Turmoil After Qatar Crisis

The ongoing Qatar crisis has had an unexpectedly adverse outcome among the Syrian "rebels", in many cases formerly known as al-Qaeda, who expect the crisis between two of their biggest state backers - Saudi Arabia and Qatar - to deepen divisions in the opposition to President Bashar al-Assad. Together with Turkey and the United States, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been major sponsors of the insurgency, arming an array of groups that have been fighting to topple Syria's Iran-backed president. However, in recent weeks the Gulf support has been far from harmonious, fuelling splits that have set back the revolt.

Quoted by Reuters, Mustafa Sejari of the Liwa al Mutasem rebel group in northern Syria said "god forbid if this crisis is not contained I predict ... the situation in Syria will become tragic because the factions that are supported by (different) countries will be forced to take hostile positions towards each other."

"Together with Turkey and the United States, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been major sponsors of the insurgency, arming an array of groups that have been fighting to topple Syria's Iran-backed president."

Belgium Extends Air Force Mission against Syria

Speaking during his visit to Canada, Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel confirmed that Belgium has extended the Belgian Air Force’ mandate for missions in Syria until the end of 2017.

Michel said the decision would be formally confirmed during the next session of the Council of Ministers in Brussels. The small European country has earmarked another 17 million euro for the operation.

The current mission mandate was coming to a close in June, but it will be extended for another six months. Under the new mandate, some 100 personnel and four fighter jets will be stationed in Jordan.

Michel said this would show that Belgium is

“a reliable partner in the fight against terrorism”. He added: “This is a strong signal towards our partners. Belgium is a reliable partner in an international coalition. We also want to show we are operational. After the NATO summit, this proves we are taking up our responsibility within Europe.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Belgium is fighting an illegal war to create regime change in Damascus; if one of their fighter jets takes down a Russian or Syrian fighter jet, you can bet that more sorties against Syrian or Russian troops will be met with defiance.

Erdogan Slams US for Building Air Bases in Syrian Kurdistan: Slams US Soldiers Being 'Arm in Arm' With Terrorists

With the Kurdish YPG advancing into the ISIS capital of Raqqa, and US officials already designating Mayadin the “next ISIS capital,” there’s clearly a lot more US-backed invasions for the Kurds to take part in, and the US is looking to make the backing of those invasions more convenient, setting up airbases in Kurdish territory.

That’s not sitting well with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who expressed particular outrage at the US having an air base in the Kurdish town of Kobani, along the Turkish border and reiterating his long-standing opposition to the US having ties with the YPG at all.

“I find the US approach to the YPG in no way chic,” Erdogan insisted, saying that US soldiers and military officers are “hand in hand, arm in arm” with a group that Turkey considers a terrorist group. He conceded that he understands the US doesn’t consider the Kurds terrorists.

US-led coalition says hostile actions of Syrian pro-regime forces will not be tolerated

The US-led coalition conducting operations against the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia - TASS) will not tolerate the hostile actions of pro-regime forces toward its own and partner forces in Syria, the coalition’s headquarters said in a statement provided to TASS.

The statement confirmed that on June 18, a US F/A-18 E aircraft had shot down a Syrian Su-22 bomber jet which, according to the coalition, had "dropped bombs near SDF (the Syrian Democratic Forces - TASS) fighters south of Tabqah." Before the incident, the coalition’s aircraft "conducted a show of force and stopped the initial pro-regime advance toward the SDF-controlled town."

"The Coalition presence in Syria addresses the imminent threat ISIS in Syria poses globally. The demonstrated hostile intent and actions of pro-regime forces toward Coalition and partner forces in Syria conducting legitimate counter-ISIS operations will not be tolerated," the statement adds.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IRAN, CHINA CONDUCT JOINT NAVAL DRILLS IN STRATEGIC STRAITS OF HORMUZ

And while the Syrian conflict has taken a back seat in recent weeks to the latest crisis to grip the Gulf region, namely the economic and territorial blockade of Qatar by its Arab neighbors, overnight China made an unexpected appearance, not surprisingly perhaps siding with the biggest supporter of the Assad regime, when as AP reported Iran's navy conducted a joint exercise with a Chinese fleet near the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf. It was only the second time the Chinese flotilla has visited the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas since 2014, and comes at a tense moment as the Senate last week passed a new round of sanctions against Tehran.

According to Iran's official IRNA news agency, Sunday's drill included an Iranian warship as well as two Chinese warships, a logistics ship and a Chinese helicopter that arrived in Iran's port of Bandar Abbas last week, and adds that the scheduled exercise "came before the departure of the Chinese fleet for Muscat, Oman."

“The spilling of any innocent blood will not go unanswered,” Press TV cited a statement by the Revolutionary Guards as saying.

Breaking: Intense clashes break-out between Syrian Army and US-backed forces in west Raqqa

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:50 A.M.) – Intense clashes have broken out between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the western countryside of Al-Raqqa, tonight, a military source informed Al-Masdar.

According to the source, units from the Syrian Arab Army attempted to cross SDF front-lines in order to rescue their fallen pilot; however, they were turned away by the latter.

This resulted in a fierce confrontation that is currently ongoing between the two entities near the key town of Resafa in western Al-Raqqa.

Visas for al-Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked the World

Thousands of American soldiers and civil servants have lost their lives in the War on Terror. Innocent citizens of many nations, including Americans killed on 9/11, have also paid the ultimate price. While the US government claims to stand against terror, this same government refuses to acknowledge its role in creating what has become a deadly international quagmire. Visas for al-Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked the World sets the record straight by laying the blame on high-ranking US government officials.

US charged with de facto invasion of Syria and openly supporting Isis

The Trump administration is now openly supporting Isis and bombing Assad’s troops in Syria on behalf of Israel. This is what a new PressTV report shockingly claims. (See 5-minute video below). If Trump is one of the good guys, as is still being argued by a rapidly diminishing number of diehard Trump supporters, why is he escalating tensions in Syria and inviting a major confrontation with Russia?

US may attack Syrian troops with multiple rocket launchers — Russian Defense MinistryMore:http://tass.com/defense/951642

The United States may attack Syrian government troops with the HIMARS multiple rocket launchers moved to the al-Tanf military base in Syria from Jordan, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"The Russian Defense Ministry has been keeping an eye on the situation along the Syrian-Jordanian border," the statement said.

The US earlier relocated two High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems from Jordan to the military base located near the city of al-Tanf, 18 kilometers from the Jordanian border.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, "the deployment of any foreign weapons to Syria’s territory should be agreed with the country’s government."

Webmaster's Commentary:

This move appears to indicate the US desiring a wider war against the Syrian government, which will most probably mean war against Russia.

SYRIA: British and American Presence Directly Escalating Conflict Near Al-Tanf

In southeastern Syria, the region around al-Tanf has quickly become a focal point for the ongoing conflict in the region. Near to both the Iraqi and Jordanian borders, al-Tanf is currently the location of a contingent of US-led coalition forces, supposedly there for the purpose of providing training to ‘anti-ISIS’ militias, but also anti-Assad militias too – the fabled ‘moderate rebels’. Not surprisingly, the US-led coalition has unilaterally imposed a self-styled ‘deconfliction zone‘ around their camp in al-Tanf and claim to be defending their position from ‘pro-Syrian forces’, otherwise known as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and allied militias. It has been reported by mainstream media outlets that coalition members represented at al-Tanf include not only the United States but also the British SAS, and also possibly Norway too.

Instead, they pose a direct threat to government forces.

Syria – The End Of The War Is Now In Sight

The most important change over the last days was the Syrian government forces move (red areas and arrows) in the south-east towards the Iraqi border. The original plan was to retrieve al-Tanf further south-west to secure the border crossing of the Damascus-Baghdad highway there. But al-Tanf was occupied by U.S., British and Norwegian invaders and some of their proxy forces (blue). Their airplanes attacked Syrian army convoys when they approached.

The U.S. plan was to move from al-Tanf north towards the Euphrates river and to thereby capture and control the whole south-east of Syria. But Syria and its allies made an unexpected move and prevented that plan. The invaders are now cut off from the Euphrates by a Syrian west-to-east line that ends at the Iraqi border. On the Iraqi side elements of the Popular Military Unites under the command of the Iraqi government are moving to meet the Syrian forces at the border.

Syria, Iran and N. Korea: Will Trump Attempt to Finish the Neocon Hitlist?

In Donald Trump’s short time in office, he has already shown his propensity to use military force. From dropping the largestnon-nuclear bomb ever used on Afghanistan, to launching 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Iraq (oh wait, Syria), there is no doubt that the Trump administration has a prominent militaristic streak.

But is this just for starters? If Trump stays in power for the duration of his term, is there a major war, or even multiple wars, on the horizon? Judging by the rhetoric and actions already taken by the Trump administration, it will be a miracle if the US does not start a major war in the near future. Coincidentally, the main countries in the sights of the Trump administration just happen to be the three countries that the neoconservatives pinpointed for regime change 17 years ago, but have not yet been dealt with.

WHEN GENERALS MAKE POLICIES - FROM TACTICS TO STRATEGY TO POLITICAL DECISION

The U.S. has a problem with the former Marine General Mattis as Secretary of Defense. Mattis thinks tactics, not strategy.

It makes little sense to send additional troops when one does not what strategy they will have to serve. There is so far no other way to end the war in Afghanistan other than to simply pull out of it. The racket that the war has become can only be stopped by such a grand strategic decision. Sending troops before deciding on the strategy practically guarantees that the choice of a pull-out will be excluded from the evaluated possibilities. The tactical decision of sending more troops will drive the strategy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am very deeply concerned that the goal of the Deep State in the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America,is actually getting into
wars against China and Russia, to check the rise of the Yuan and Ruble in the international monetary world.

The problem is, at this point in its history, the US military does not have the money; the troop strength; the weaponry; or the manufacturing to effect a positive outcome with a conventional war against Russia and/or China.

The culture of American weapons manufacturers gives the heads of these corporations the luxury of believing that weapons and planes delivered so late, as to be obsolete, when delivered, is perfectly fine, coupled with mass cost overruns.

As a Christian pacifist activist, I abhor war as a way to resolve geopolitical differences, and always advocate for clean, clear, hard-won negotiations. That being said, if America is to be successful at war, this has got to change.

The Russian and Chinese governments are spending far less on their weapons and related systems than does the USSA, but definitely getting infinitely more bang for their weapons buck.

And what do Americans get for their tax dollar?!? I give you Lockheed Martin's F-35.

Putin announces plans to reinforce Syrian army

President Vladimir Putin has announced Russia's "medium-term" plans to beef up the Syrian army that is battling foreign-backed terrorist groups.

Speaking at a live question and answer session with citizens in Moscow on Thursday, Putin said the reinforcement of the Syrian army would allow Russian troops in the Arab country to return to their home bases.

Russia's air force, however, will continue helping Syria where necessary, Putin said, even though he expressed his keenness for a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Syria.

"We aim to establish a process a political settlement (in Syria) between all the sides involved," he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I frankly do not believe that the American military will give Putin the luxury of being able to fend off the "foreign terrorists" (which the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America is supporting) only via the use of air power.

And that has me very, very worried.

Syria: From ‘no boots on the ground’ to (not so secret) forward operating bases

It’s a familiar pattern by now. From “we’re staying out” to “just some logistical aid to rebels” to “okay, some mere light arms to fight the evil dictator” to “well, a few anti-tank missiles wouldn’t hurt” to “we gotta bomb the new super-bad terror group that emerged!” to “ah but no boots on the ground!” to “alright kinetic strikes as a deterrent” to “but special forces aren’t really boots on the ground per se, right?” And on and on it goes.

As of this week the public is getting a rare glimpse of more US boots on the ground in southern Syria. Not just boots, but a US Special Forces Forward Operating Base, along with evidence of US operational control of a sovereign country’s border crossing.

Caleb Weiss reports the following for Long War Journal:

Webmaster's Commentary:

The collective insanity of this ongoing war, on the part of the government of the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America against Syria, is right out there, on display in this move.

This is a monstrously illegal act, by a foreign government against the sovereign state of Syria, and I have to wonder just when US fighting forces in Syria are going to find themselves fighting Russian troops, on the ground.

Because it looks as though that is the state of affairs to which the US military appears to be headed at the moment.

US Airstrikes in Raqqa Causing ‘Staggering’ Loss of Civilian Life

An independent commission of UN war crimes investigators have denounced a “staggering loss of civilian life” that has resulted from the escalation of US airstrikes against the ISIS-held city of Raqqa since the beginning of the Kurdish invasion of the city last week.

The Kurdish YPG has been advancing on Raqqa for months, and the US airstrikes in the course of that operation have killed a lot of civilians too, but its grown precipitously in the past week, and the UN inquiry said US airstrikes in Raqqa had killed at least 300 civilians.

Human Rights Watch also chimed in, faulting the US for the use of toxic incendiary white phosphorus inside the city, saying it was unacceptable to use the chemical in populated areas, and that the US should show more care with such attacks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Being a citizen of a country which believes it can regime change any government, anywhere in the world, and by every and any means necessary, including using banned weapons (like white phosphorus in a heavily populated area) is not making me very happy right now.

This dovetails with another very disturbing article, also found at antiwar.com:

Mattis: Attacks on Syrian Forces Were ‘Self-Defense’

Speaking about a number of recent US attacks on pro-government forces in Syria, Secretary of Defense James Mattis insisted that the attacks were simply “self-defense” aimed at protecting US ground troops positioned inside Syria, and that the US would continue to do so.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Recalling that those US forces do not have the permission of the Syrian government to be there in the first place...

Why Are We Attacking the Syrians Who Are Fighting ISIS?

Just when you thought our Syria policy could not get any worse, last week it did. The US military twice attacked Syrian government forces from a military base it illegally occupies inside Syria. According to the Pentagon, the attacks on Syrian government-backed forces were “defensive” because the Syrian fighters were approaching a US self-declared “de-confliction” zone inside Syria. The Syrian forces were pursuing ISIS in the area, but the US attacked anyway.

The US is training yet another rebel group fighting from that base, located near the border of Iraq at al-Tanf, and it claims that Syrian government forces pose a threat to the US military presence there. But the Pentagon has forgotten one thing: it has no authority to be in Syria in the first place! Neither the US Congress nor the UN Security Council has authorized a US military presence inside Syria.

Syrian Army Boxing in US Forces in Southern Syria Came as a Shock — Defense Secretary Mattis

When last Friday Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Syrian forces had broken through to the Iraqi border and enveloped the US forces in southern Syria this came as a shock to us here at RI.

Not because this was some move nobody could see coming. Anyone who can read a map could see that a Syrian advance to the east of US positions at al-Tanf base would effectively neutralize it. I spelled out as much a week before the Syrian offensive took place:

The obvious play for the Russian-backed Syrians is to neutralize Americans at al-Tanf by giving their base a 55 kilometer-wide berth and punch through to the Iraqi border further east. Such a maneuver would end US dreams of al-Tanf as a staging point for a push into the Euphrates valley and make it into an irrelevant, isolated outpost in the desert.

Video Emerges Of US Allowing ISIS Fighters To Escape Safely In Syria

Video footage obtained by Al-Masdar appears to show convoys of ISIS fighters fleeing the Syrian city of Raqqa untouched by the U.S. military, which is currently bombing that exact location. As Al-Masdar notes, despite having Kurdish and American drones hovering around the city of Raqqa, U.S. bombs are nowhere to be seen as hundreds of fighters pass safely. The release of this footage comes on the heels of accusations from both Russia and Iran that the U.S. is colluding with ISIS to allow the group’s safe passage into areas controlled by the Syrian government.

Video: Syrian Army Reaches Border with Iraq, Strategic Implications, Failure of US Plan to Create a Buffer Zone Controlled by Western Backed Militants?

On June 9, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allied militia groups reached the border with Iraq in the area north of the US-led coalition garrisons at the village of At Tanf and Al Zquf. This advance dramatically changed the strategic situation in southeastern Syria and de-facto allowed the Syrian-Iranian-Russian alliance to win the race for the border with Iraq.

The key goal of the US-led coalition actions near the border was to prevent the SAA from linking up with the allied Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) operating in Iraq and to build a buffer zone controlled by Western-backed militant groups between the two countries.

The PMU is a major power in Iraq and an official part of the Iraqi Armed Forces. It’s currently conducting a large-scale operation against ISIS terrorists at own side of the border. The June 9 advance destroyed the US-led coalition’s plans.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder; in light of this debacle, what is the US government and military are really prepared to do now to regime-change Damascus?!?

The following, very troubling article appeared yesterday in sputniknews.com:

Poster bearing a portrait of President Bashar al-Assad: Is US Preparing for Assad's Removal Amid Strikes on Damascus' Allies?

The article goes on to state:

"Washington is harboring a plan for a new "color revolution" in Syria, seeking to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and replace him with a pro-American submissive government, Russian Senator and intelligence veteran Igor Morozov told RIA Novosti.

The US is preparing a large-scale operation aimed at toppling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and replacing him with a pro-American puppet regime, Russian Senator Igor Morozov, a member of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee, believes.

"The United States is making efforts to seize the strategic initiative in Syria by carrying out a 'color revolution' with the assistance of the armed forces; [they] are preparing an attack on Damascus to oust the current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and install a submissive leadership in [Syria's] government," Morozov told RIA Novosti."

I hope to heck that Russian Senator Morozov is absolutely wrong on this; but unfortunately, just because a move is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid move the US government can make, us utterly no guarantee that they will not do it.

Such a move will most probably lead to war with Russia.

SYRIAN TROOPS MOVE CLOSER TO RAQQA AS THE US DROPS CHEMICAL WEAPONS ON THE CITY

RECENT VIDEO HAS EMERGED OF THE US DROPPING WHAT APPEARS TO BE TOXIC WHITE PHOSPHORUS MUNITIONS ON THE CITY.

The Syrian Arab Army has captured villages in Al-Raqqa Governorate for the first time since ISIS forced Syrian troops to abandon the region to terrorists in 2013.

Syria’s elite Tiger Forces have been making remarkable progress in the race to Raqqa while the United States is also trying to get a piece of the largely symbolic self-proclaimed capital of the so-called Islamic State.

Just as they had done in their Iraqi stronghold of Mosul, ISIS fighters in Raqqa have been fleeing the city with Deir ez-Zor being their primary destination.

This comes as the US planes have been filmed dropping what appears to be the illegal chemical weapon white phosphorus on the city.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, according to the current regime in DC, the infliction of hot, flaming death, by bombing with white phosphorous, which eats and devours flesh to the bone, is only a war crime when other countries do it.

I don't know about you, but I am very emotionally and morally tired of being a citizen of a country so thoroughly comfortable with committing war crimes around the planet.

I can assure you that the next set of images are horrifically, stomach-churningly graphic, but I think you really need to see some real-world examples of what is being done in your name, and with your tax dollars, in Syria.

RUSSIA WARNS THE US TO NOT LAUNCH ANOTHER MILITARY STRIKE ON SYRIAN FORCES

According to Reuters, Russia has warned the U.S. not to attack Syrian-aligned troops again in the war-torn country. Reuters reports that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov relayed the message to U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in a phone call on Saturday — a phone call the U.S. reportedly initiated.
“Lavrov expressed his categorical disagreement with the U.S. strikes on pro-government forces and called on him to take concrete measures to prevent similar incidents in future,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said, as reported by Reuters. The U.S. has struck pro-Syrian troops numerous times in recent weeks and just recently shot down a Syrian drone — blatant acts of war against a sovereign nation. A Russian general also claimed that the U.S. may even be colluding with ISIS, allowing them safe passage to leave Raqqa as the U.S. military besieges the Syrian city.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I hope President Trump understands that he is playing with Russian fire, with this illegal intrusion on the war in Syria; but perhaps, that is just the point, to engage Syria and Russia so recklessly that Putin will have no choice but to respond militarily.

Unfortunately, just because a move isn't the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could do, is absolutely no guarantee that it will not do it.

Did the US use white phosphorus weapons in its attacks on Syria and Iraq?

White phosphorus causes potentially fatal chemical burns which have been known to melt skin off the bone. It is similar to napalm.

Footage showed the signature spread of airburst white phosphorus munitions—probably M825 series 155mm artillery rounds—exploding over eastern Raqqa. It was posted last week by the anti-Isis activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently.

When M825 rounds explode, they jettison roughly 115 felt wedges that are impregnated with white phosphorus.

If exploded high above the ground, the wedges can spread over a greater distance, starting fires over a wide area.

While showing this photo to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, she pelted him with accusations of bombing civilians and committing war crimes. The boy, Omran Daqneesh, and his parents tell a different story. They say the boy did sustain minor injuries, but that the White Helmets placed him in an ambulance for a staged photograph for propaganda against the Syrian government which, in their view, was not responsible for the air strike. SYRIA: Sarin Attack Narrative Destroyed by MIT National Security Expert

According to the White House and Western mainstream media, on the morning of April 4, 2017, the Syrian ‘regime’ of Bashar Al-Assad carried out a sarin gas airstrike on the town of Khan Sheikhoun. Although no proper investigation was carried out, the event resulted in the US launching a barrage of Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian military airbase two days later. Two months have now passed, and there remains no proof that the Syrian government carried out this attack. In fact, none of the evidence supports that version of events.

MIT Chemical Weapons Expert Debunks Official Narrative Of Attacks At Khan Sheikhoun, Syria

The United States government and the Western corporate media are doing everything they can to continue to prop up the disproven narrative that Bashar al-Assad launched a chemical attack against civilians in Khan Sheikhoun. After having their story debunked repeatedly, the corporate press keeps coming back for more, even despite having a terrorist confessing to participating in the false flag attack.

Upon expert investigation, however, the more the New York Times and the anti-Syria crowd’s favorite website personality, Bellingcat, talk, the more their claims are disproven.

Around May 10, Washington’s Blog contacted rocket scientist and chemical weapons expert, Theodore Postol, to ask him his thoughts on the attack. Postol’s response was quite telling...

Trump Just Dropped Chemical Weapons in a Major City, 100,000 Civilians Trapped

President Trump is now doing the unthinkable – in his war on terror, he has resorted to the use of chemical weapons.

Multiple reports are confirming that a US-led Coalition used white phosphorus-loaded ammunition in heavily populated cities of Iraq and Syria. Thousands of civilians are known to be in the areas where the weapons were used according to The Washington Post.

Use of such weapons violates international humanitarian law due to the types of injuries it can cause when other weapons are available to do the job. While white phosphorus isn’t exactly outlawed by the Geneva Convention, it is still illegal to use in densely populated areas. And, here’s why:

“When a white phosphorus shell explodes, the chemical inside reacts with the air, creating a thick white cloud. When it comes in contact with flesh, it can maim and kill by burning to the bone.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, has anyone happened to mention to you that the use of such weapons, particularly against heavy concentrations of civilians, is a war crime?!?

Well, Mr. President, I JUST DID!!!

And I must tell you also; I am profoundly unhappy about being a citizen of a country whose leadership is very comfortable committing war crimes!!

Russian FM Warns US Not to Strike Syrian Pro-Government Forces

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a phone call Saturday with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, warned that Russia considers the recent US attacks on pro-government forces in southern Syria categorically unacceptable, and said the US must take steps to prevent any further clashes of this sort.

The US had multiple recent incidents in which they’ve attacked Shi’ite militia forces in southern Syria, accusing them of getting too close to a rebel base which has US personnel stationed in it. The indications, however, are that the Shi’ite militias in the region have been attacking ISIS and al-Qaeda forces, not the US-backed rebels at al-Tanf.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I hope Trump's administration is listening, here; one more (deliberate) slip up, and the US government and military could well find itself at war with Russia over Syria; or, has that been the plan all along?!?

I don't know what the Vegas odds are here of the US and Russia going to war in Syria against each other might be, but I would suggest that we may be looking at a "when" issue here, rather than an "if" issue right now.

It’s hard to appreciate the effect ISIS has had on ordinary Iraqis and Syrians who wanted nothing to do with the terror group.

There are cities in these countries that have been ruled by these monsters for several years. Monsters whose cruelty and depravity knows no bounds. Most people in the West can’t imagine what that must be like, because the vast majority of us have never lived under those conditions.

So what does happens to people who have been living under ISIS for so long?

Well, try to imagine what you would do if a bunch of lunatics had been running your community for several years. Imagine if they had cut you off from the outside world, tortured and killed family members and neighbors, sold female relatives into sexual slavery, and indoctrinated your children.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a direct result, and consequence, of the both US military's invasions of Iraq and the current strikes against the Syrian army, loyal to Al-Assad.

Syria's al-Qaeda affiliate escapes from Canada's terror list

The Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, currently calling itself Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has succeeded in getting itself off Canada's list of designated terrorist entities following its latest identity shift.

That complicates the task of prosecuting Canadians who travel to join the group, send it money or propagandize on its behalf.

It also illustrates the pitfalls of Canada following the lead of the U.S. in designating terror groups.

The Father of Omran, the Iconic “Aleppo Boy” Says Media Lied About His Son

Omran’s father, Mohammad Kheir Daqneesh, had six children, including Omran and the late Mohammad Ali. In the year following the attack that injured Omran and his family, Mr. Daqneesh became sick of the way Gulf and Western media used the image of his son as propaganda to garner public support for further intervention in Syria.

He chose to speak out on June 5, 2017, giving interviews to Syrian media in which he gave his side of Omran’s story. He pointed out the ways in which Omran had been made into an icon without his knowledge or his family’s consent, as well as the false premises under which this was done.

The US State Department is hesitant to label Tahrir al-Sham a terror group, despite the group’s link to al-Qaeda, as the US government has directly funded and armed the Zenki Brigade, one of the constituents of Tahrir al-Sham, with sophisticated weaponry including the US-made antitank TOW missiles.

'Syria being punished for resisting US, allies'

The Syrian army has reached the Iraqi border for the first time since 2014. The army announced on Friday that Syrian forces had arrived at the border, situated 50 km north of the al-Tanf crossing in Badia region which hosts a garrison of US troops which they have been using to attack Syrian government forces instead of terrorists. What does this strategic achievement mean? Is victory on the horizon for Damascus?

Human rights groups say US-led coalition used white phosphorous in populated areas of Iraq, Syria

The U.S.-led coalition in Iraq and Syria appears to have used white phosphorous-loaded munitions on at least two occasions in densely populated areas of Mosul and in the Islamic State's de facto capital of Raqqa, according to videos posted online and human rights groups.

The often-controversial munitions are common in western militaries and are used primarily to create smoke screens, though they can also be dropped as an incendiary weapon. When a white phosphorous shell explodes, the chemical inside reacts with the air, creating a thick white cloud. When it comes in contact with flesh, it can maim and kill by burning to the bone.

US “Jihadi Express”: Indonesia – Afghanistan – Syria – Philippines

For quite some time, professor Iman Soleh and I discussed the link between the ‘old guard’ Southeast Asian (mainly Indonesians and Malaysians) jihadi cadres, so-called ‘Afghan alumni’, and the vanguard, a ‘new wave’, that which is now trying to destabilize, even destroy both Syria and the Philippines.

While the name ‘jihad’ itself has been used habitually and ‘liberally’ all over the Western mainstream media, it was clear to all of us at the table that behind the brutal combat as well as most of the horrors unleashed in such places like Syria and Philippines, hidden are the geopolitical interests of the West in general and of the United States in particular.

Professor Soleh has explained the latest ‘dynamics’:

Webmaster's Commentary:

You have to take a look at the "big picture", to see how the use of radical religious jihadis has been central to the US government's attempts at destabilisation around the world, to regime change governments to its liking, and make certain that the resources of those countries are only sold in American dollars.

US-BACKED FORCES ENTER RAQQA AS COALITION DROPS WHITE PHOSPHORUS BOMBS

In what some speculate may be the beginning of the end for Daesh (ISIS), the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) entered Raqqa – Daesh’s Syrian stronghold – for the first time on Tuesday. SDF commander Rojda Felat told the AFP news agency that the group is “fighting street battles inside Raqqa now, and we have experience in urban warfare.” The advance came after heavy airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition, which killed more than 20 civilians trying to flee the offensive by boat.

The push for the U.S.-backed SDF to claim Raqqa from Daesh has been in the works for over seven months, having only been made possible by U.S.-led coalition air support, thousands of military advisers and deliveries of heavy weapons. While the U.S.-led coalition, particularly the U.S. itself, claims that this support is all for the common cause of eradicating Daesh, their plans for Raqqa following a Daesh defeat could make the future goal of a united Syria all but impossible to achieve.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but if these reports about the purported US use of white phosphorous and cluster bomb weapons are true, isn't the use of both white phosphorus and cluster bomb weapons banned, internationally, for use against civilians?!?

It appears that the US military is rapidly going rogue, with an "ends justify the means" attitude (now, where have we heard THAT before?!?), and a completely cavalier "Assassinations R Us" level of insensitivity to civilian deaths.

A LONDON ATTACKER’S LINKS TO UK COVERT OPERATIONS IN SYRIA AND LIBYA

Evidence suggests that one of the London attackers, Rachid Redouane, was part of the broad UK-backed covert strategy to oust Syria’s Assad, following his similar role in Libya in 2011.

It is distinctly possible that Redouane was trained by Qatar special forces in Libya in 2011, as part of a broad UK-approved covert operation. Indeed, it is possible that this training was presided over by UK and US ‘liaison’ officers.

The analysis below is based on mainstream media sources, all in the public domain.

Evidence suggests that one London attacker, Rachid Redouane, was part of the broad UK-backed covert strategy to oust Syria’s Assad, following his similar role in Libya in 2011.

The Telegraph reports that London attacker Rachid Redouane fought in the 2011 British/NATO war against Qaddafi – as did Salman Abedi, the Manchester bomber – and joined a militia which went on to send jihadist fighters to Syria. In Libya, he is believed to have fought with the Liwa al Ummah unit.[1]

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable!!

And the British government didn't expect there to be blowback, when all was said and done?!?

Apparently, the pathological inability to think a scenario all the way through to its logical conclusion, is not only a disease of American government, but also also infects the British government intensely as well.

Trump faces growing Senate resistance on Saudi arms deal

As President Donald Trump aligns with Saudi Arabia amid a fresh dispute among Gulf nations, senators in both parties as soon as Thursday will try to block him from selling more than $500 million in offensive weapons to Riyadh.

The Senate bid to stop the Saudi arms sales — a small portion of what the White House claims will be a $110 billion package — is likely to fail. But the push to tie Trump's hands will probably find more support than a similar brushback pitch directed at President Barack Obama last year, as Democrats are far more united behind the proposal. Not only do Democrats have little reason to give Trump a win on any front, they're also stepping up their outcry over Saudi involvement in Yemen’s worsening civil war.

It’s Not Terrorism When We Do It—Syrians Report US Use of Chemical Weapons on Town of 200K

The same entities that condemned the Syrian government's alleged use of chemical weapons have become eerily silent in the face of reports that suggest a US-backed coalition committed the same crime.

The outrage and empathy on behalf of the civilians in Syria that was expressed by politicians and media personalities alike when they found an opportunity to blame a chemical attack on Assad’s government was a distant memory this week. Instead, reports that a US-backed coalition dropped a cluster of airstrikes containing illegal chemicals on a city housing 200,000 people was almost completely ignored by western media.

Using Comey as a Distraction, Trump Bombed Syrian Govt As They Fought ISIS

The US government will go on it's merry way killing and maiming and destroying until the world stands up and hands the US Military a crushing and humiliating defeat. We are in the Big Muddy now!

With attention diverted to testimony by James Comey, the US attacked Syrian government forces — again — but this time, Damascus warned there would be dire consequences, which could bring about world war.

As if further proof were needed that the U.S. harbors interests having nothing to do with fighting terrorists and the Islamic State in Syria, American troops have attacked Syrian government forces — who were fighting the Islamic State at the time they were attacked.

This bold move inside a sovereign nation against its military — if continued, unfettered — could find the U.S. culpable in provoking the next world war.

US ‘acts outside the law’ & harms its national security with Syria airstrikes – Ron Paul to RT

It was the third set of strikes the US has conducted in response to the alleged “direct threats” posed to coalition forces operating out of Al-Tanf in the last three weeks.

Although the US has claimed that the strikes were necessary responses to troops or military equipment entering an agreed-upon deconfliction zone, Moscow has rejected the justification for launching attacks on areas the Americans have unilaterally declared as safe zones.

“I’m not aware of the deconfliction zones the Pentagon is referring to,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. “Maybe there are zones that have been established unilaterally where the [US-led] coalition thinks it can do whatever it wants. We don’t recognize such zones.”

The only de-escalation zones that Russia recognizes are those that were agreed to by Syria, Iran, Turkey and Russia, Lavrov added. Anything else is considered “not legitimate.”

US airstrikes shoot down drone, kill 17 civilians in Syria

US warplanes continue their unauthorized strikes in Syria, shooting down a pro-Syrian drone near the Jordanian border and killing 17 civilians in the northern province of Raqqah.

According to Colonel Ryan Dillon, the spokesman for the US-led coalition in Syria, a US airstrike hit the drone near the coalition's al-Tanf garrison close to the Jordanian border on Thursday.

Dillon said although the missile the drone had fired had hit only dirt and no one was hurt, it was meant to target coalition forces patrolling outside a so-called "deconfliction zone."

The drone was about the same size as a US MQ-1 Predator and it is not immediately clear who owned the aircraft, Dillon pointed out.

In "Major Escalation", Syrian Drone Attacks US-Coalition Forces

One day after a pro-Assad military alliance threatened to strike US forces in Syria in retaliation for a US bombing of an Iran-backed militia operating in an allegedly "no-go zone" near a US garrison in southern Syria, near the town of At Tanf, the Syrians allegedly followed through on their promise, and according to Reuters, a pro-Syrian regime armed drone attacked U.S.-led coalition forces in Syria, for which it was promptly shot down in what the Pentagon dubbed "a major escalation of tensions between Washington and troops supporting Damascus."

The armed drone "hit dirt" and there were no injuries or damage done to the coalition patrol in southern Syria, but U.S. Army Colonel Ryan Dillon, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State, told reporters the drone meant to attack them and dismissed the possibility it had fired a warning shot.

DECLASSIFIED DOCS PROVE US GOV’T KNOWINGLY ARMED ISIS, CLAIMED WEAPONS WERE ‘LOST’

After an audit from the Department of Defense revealed that the Pentagon couldn’t account for over $1 billion in weapons and equipment that was meant for fighters in Iraq, the question remains: Did ISIS gain $1 BILLION in weapons and equipment as a result?

The September 2016 audit was declassified after the human rights organization Amnesty International filed a Freedom of Information Act request. It revealed that the Pentagon “did not have accurate, up-to-date records on the quantity and location” of the majority of the equipment that was meant for the Iraqi Train & Equip Program.

The missing equipment came from the $1.6 billion budget Congress allocated for the program in 2015. The budget was approved in the name of fighting the Islamic State of Iraq & Syria—a group of militants that didn’t exist until nearly a decade after the United States invaded Iraq in 2003.

Jean-Luc Picard double face-palm moment

Since when, please, did American military in Iraq become simply "collateral damage" to the DOD?!?

BREAKING: US attacks Syrian army for 2nd time this week

As the Syrian Arab Army continues to make gains in the desert regions outside of Damascus in southern Syria, the United States continues to attack these convoys whenever they come close to an illegal US garrison near the Al-Tanf Border-Crossing.

Today’s attack by the US on Syrian and allied troops is the second in less than a week and the third such attack in less than a month.

Jun 08 10:36

US IS NOW BASICALLY IN AN ILLEGAL UNDECLARED WAR WITH SYRIA AND NOBODY’S TALKING ABOUT IT

And the cold hard truth needs to come to light: the U.S. has illegally invaded Syria’s territory. The fact that the Syrian military cannot realistically drive the U.S. military out (especially while it is embroiled in numerous battles with ISIS and other radical guerrilla forces) does not constitute tacit acceptance of the U.S. military presence there. In fact, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has called the U.S. and its associated forces “invaders” numerous times because the U.S. has no legal basis to operate inside Syrian territory.

On top of this unwarranted invasion, the U.S. claims it has the right to defend itself from troops loyal to Syria’s current government. It also claims it has the right to defend forces that operate under the control of the U.S.-led coalition. This is not a new proposal under Donald Trump; Barack Obama authorized U.S. air power to defend the U.S.-trained fighting forces in Syria, even if that meant attacking Syrian government troops.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My dear Antimedia.com: WRH has been covering this illegal and immoral war on the part of the US government for quite some time now!!

But having said that, what concerns me deeply is, just how long it will take for the US military to be in direct conflict with Russian and/or Iranian troops in Syria, who were invited, at the behest of the Syrian government, to get rid of the jihadists fighting against it.

Just yesterday, as reported at zerohedge.com:

Pro-Iranian militia in Syria threatens to attack US positions there

The question to US military engagement with pro-Al-Assad, Russian, and Iranian forces is not a question of if; it has become a question of when.

Welcome to World War III, started, courtesy of the US government!!

FATHER OF ICONIC ALEPPO BOY SUPPORTS ASSAD, SAYS SON WAS USED 'FOR PROPAGANDA'

The father of the iconic "Syrian Ambulance boy," whose photograph was plastered all over the Western media as an excuse to overthrow Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, says he supports Assad and his son was used by the media "for the sake of propaganda."

From RT:

Omran Daqneesh was rescued from the rubble in the aftermath of a bombing in the rebel-held Qaterji district of Aleppo in August 2016. The controversial Syrian Civil Defense group, better known as the White Helmets soon released harrowing footage of Omran sitting in an ambulance chair.

The White Helmets group has a controversial reputation. While they are hailed as hero volunteers by the Western mainstream media, and even have an Academy Award-winning documentary about them, their reputation on the ground in Syria is much more sinister.

Webmaster's Commentary:
