British Foreign Secretary Cancels Moscow Trip; Russia Responds "No Big Loss"

Johnson had planned to travel to Russia Monday on a trip intended to start fresh dialogue with the Russian government (which would have been the first visit by a UK foreign secretary in more than five years), but following this week's actions he said in a statement.

"Developments in Syria have changed the situation fundamentally,"

"We deplore Russia's continued defence of the Assad regime even after the chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians,"

"We call on Russia to do everything possible to bring about a political settlement in Syria and work with the rest of the international community to ensure that the shocking events of the last week are never repeated."

"My priority is now to continue contact with the U.S. and others in the run-up to the G7 meeting on 10-11 April - to build coordinated international support for a ceasefire on the ground and an intensified political process."

Webmaster's Commentary:

These moves do NOT augur well for peace in Syria.

Lavrov compares US strike in Syria to 2003 Iraq invasion

The US missile attack on a Syrian airbase is an act of aggression under a far-fetched pretext and is reminiscent of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

Assad is responsible for the US Strikes on Syria. Really? French folk mock their leadership's line

This is what the merdias serve us as per usual. No evidence of anything! Just like Saddam Hussein with his massive weapons. [Merdia, of course is a mix of merde (sh*T) and media --tr]

Why would Assad do the inconceivable when the US made it clear that Syria was no longer a priority! Think of it ... Manipulation from the get-go.

Did anybody wait for an investigation? I am the first to say that if the investigation shows that these chemical attacks came from Assad, it will be necessary to intervene as quickly as possible and drag him in a straitjacket before the international tribunal. But that should have been foundational. Step one. But no inquiry, no retrospection for seeing clearly.

BREAKING: ‘Evil, undiplomatic behavior’ – Russia SLAMS the US at UN emergency meeting

Acting Russian Ambassador to the UN Vladimir Safronkov, delivered a scathing indictment on the United States and its allies over the illegal missile strike on Syria.

He rightly accused the United States of violating international law in a totally unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation. He was careful to illustrate the difference between the illegal US presence in Syria fighting Salifism with the Kurds vis-a-vis an outright attack on Syrian forces who are doing the lion’s share of the fighting against terrorism. In order words things have gone from uncomfortable to totally unacceptable and totally counter-productive.

He correctly stated that the American war crime of undermines the peace process for Syria as well as stability in the country and wider region.

Only 23 out of 59 US missiles hit target, damage is "laughable" - Syrian office

"The Shayrat airfield has for six months already been used by the Syrian Army as a ‘dump’ where the Syrian Arab Republic’s armed forces' old and already decommissioned military equipment waits before being sent to scrap or dismantling for old parts.

As a result of the US missile strike, six MIG-23’s were destroyed which were being repaired and one An-26 transport plane being recycled which, according to the technical staff of the base, already had its wings and power setup dismantled by the time of the attack.

In addition to equipment of Soviet production, as a result of the strike several light-duty transport aircraft of foreign production were destroyed," the Syrian military source concluded.

According to experts, the total damage of the missile strike was no more than 3-5 million US dollars. At the same time, by using not so tricky math, it is clear that for recycling such old Syrian equipment the US Army lost around 90 million US dollars.

'This is not the end': John McCain warns Trump, torches Rand Paul on Syria missile strikes

When asked whether the US should send ground troops to Syria, McCain said Assad "will not be overthrown by American troops." He said only a trained, well-equipped free Syrian army would prevail.

"The only reason why Bashar Assad is in power today is because of Russia and Iran — certainly not because of Syrians," McCain said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Songbird" is a war addict. No matter how many wars he gets he always wants more. If he wants to bomb Syria he should do it himself. At least the Syrians would be safe, given McCain's actual war record as a pilot who got shot down, as well as being suspected of triggering the fire on the USS Forrestal that destroyed enough US aircraft to qualify McCain as an enemy ace! Thank goodness McCain's daddy was an admiral (the same one who covered up Israel's deliberate attack on the USS Liberty) and could get the official record to blame a bad switch!

Then there was that whole Keating Five scandal, again from which McCain magically emerged unscathed!

Yep, we should send John over there to drop the bombs and see how he does! Can we paint his aircraft bright red, white, and blue, or is that still considered racist?

North Korea Condemns America's "Unforgivable Acts Of Aggression"

In an ironic twist given that many consider Trump's actions a symbolic show of strength to China's Xi, Reuters reports that North Korea said on Saturday U.S. missile strikes against a Syrian airfield on Friday were "an unforgivable act of aggression" that showed its decision to develop nuclear weapons was "the right choice a million times over."

Was Israel The Reason For The U.S. Strike On Syrian Military Base?

By Brandon Turbeville

After the U.S. missile strikes in Syria, many may have wondered why the al-Sha’ayrat airfield was the target. In other words, what was so important about this airbase as opposed to all the others? The Trump administration, for their part, claimed that they targeted “chemical weapons” being stored at the base and that this particular base was where the chemical weapons originated.

Of course, in order to believe the Trump administration’s claims...

A Strike in Syria Restores Our Credibility in the World

After President Bashar al-Assad of Syria once again attacked his own citizens with poison gas, the civilized world recoiled in horror at images of children writhing in pain and suffocating to death. President Trump voiced this justified outrage at a news conference on Wednesday, and the next day he took swift, decisive action against the outlaw Assad regime. But these strikes did more than simply punish Mr. Assad and deter future attacks; they have gone a long way to restoring our badly damaged credibility in the world.

It’s hard to overstate just how low the standing of the United States had fallen because of President Barack Obama’s failure to enforce his own “red line” against Mr. Assad’s use of chemical weapons in 2013. I was one of the few Republican members of Congress who supported strikes against Syria then. Because of that, I’ve heard from dozens of world leaders expressing their doubts about the security commitments of the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Senator Cotton, a word please.

Americans, and the world, understand that this was a false flag operation, engineered to evoke horror and rage, so that the bombs could be immediately dropped, before there was a thorough investigation.

And sir, have you had a rather "convenient" episode of SMD (selective memory disorder), which caused you to forget that in 2013, the US gave Syrian rebels poison gas, in order to create an attack against the Syrian people to be blamed on Al-Assad's government, as the excuse for regime change?!?

2013: U.S. 'BACKED PLAN TO LAUNCH CHEMICAL WEAPON ATTACK ON SYRIA AND BLAME IT ON ASSAD'S REGIME'

These strikes have not "...gone a long way to restoring our badly damaged credibility in the world."

In fact, these strikes have telegraphed to the world the absolute lack of restraint which characterises this administration, and shown that in the most foaming at the mouth, mad-dog, logic-free manner, the US government will strike anyone, anywhere, just because it can, even when it is punishing the absolutely wrong people.

The tensions with Russia are escalating by the millisecond over this, and may lead to US/Russian military conflict, and most probably sooner rather than later. How, in the name of heaven does this "restore our credibility in the world." ?!? The short answer is, it cannot.

And to all countries which are/have been thinking about developing nuclear weapons; this strike will instill the sure and certain knowledge that unless they have these weapons as a deterrent, the US will attack them as well.

Look for countries like Saudi Arabia to be looking to buy/build a bomb, and the government of Pakistan, a nuclear-armed nation will oblige.

BREAKING: Bombed Syrian Sharyat air base ‘back in operation’

This information – which appears to be true – suggests that Russian claims that the US missile strike was ‘inefficient’ and that only 23 of the 59 cruise missiles launched reached their target, and that the main runway of the base is undamaged, are true.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To sum up:

1. Based on an obvious false-flag that nobody believes, Trump launched about $90 million worth of Tomahawk Cruise missiles at the Shayrat Air Base in Syria.

2. Out of 59 missiles, only 23 actually hit the base, with most of those hitting the outskirts of the base and doing no real damage.

3. 18 people were killed on the base, including Russian personnel. Many died fighting the fires rather than in the attack itself.

4. Nine planes were destroyed, six of them 1960s vintage MIG-23s.

5. The remaining 37 cruise missiles hit civilian targets including the villages of Shayrat, Al-Hamrat, and Al-Manzul, killing more civilians, including children!

So Trump, in his faux fury over the faux Assad crime of killing civilians and children ... is killing civilians and children.

6. And the base is back in operation.

Syria: New U.S. Airstrike Support “Request Scheme” For Al-Qaeda

Al-Qaeda and its sidekick Ahra al-Sham welcomed the U.S. strikes and Abu Ivanka al Amriki on their side. The theocratic dictatorship of Saudi Arabia offered its full support as did its British creators.

The U.S. airstrike delivers a message to al-Qaeda. Whenever under military pressure al-Qaeda can now stage or fake a “chemical attack” and the U.S. will act to destroy its enemy, the Syrian government. Acts as the one last night are then direct military support by the U.S. on al-Qaeda’s request.

Trump is the third U.S. president in a row who promised less belligerence during his campaign only to deliver more after the election. The “democratic” veil of the U.S. oligarchic rule thus rips further apart.

False Flags and the Trump Administration: Expect an Erratic Flip-Flop Foreign Policy, a Return to Gunboat Diplomacy and More Illegal Wars of Aggression

International law is being more and more discarded in favor of international anarchy

It is a sad fact that in totalitarian states, but also in our so-called democracies, it seems that wars of aggression are now based and sold with official lies and fraudulent fabrications in order to fool the people. Warmongers in government know that people do not like wars, especially illegal wars of aggression, against countries that have not attacked them. That is why their first choice is to attempt to drag the people along with lies and false pretexts for war, and by dehumanizing any potential enemy through crude propaganda.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What we have in the United States is an illusion of living in a democratic republic.

Oh yes, we have elections; but these Kabuki-like processes only give us candidates which the American Deep State has vetted, and are very certain to do its will, once elected.

So ultimately, the American people have utterly no choice over their own destiny; and if the deep state is annoyed with a President, or Presidential Candidate, that person can be assassinated, sometimes very publicly, as was the case with the Kennedy brothers, and no one dares point a finger at the real culprits.

Syria: Trump May Just have Started World War III

People stand up and become disabler of the empire!

Syria is a mere square on this murderous chess board, as was Yugoslavia, Libya, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan, and many more to come. The purpose is not ‘winning a war’ – that would be too simple. The purpose is creating and leaving behind chaos, eternal chaos. In the case of Syria a balkanization of the country, what Clinton did to Yugoslavia. The old ‘divide to conquer’ – it still works after hundreds of years. People are still blinded to these oldest and most rudimentary of war strategies. They still fall for it; don’t notice; swallow the lies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I frankly don't think the worst is over here; if President Trump does order another strike against Syria, Russia may very well counter militarily.

Their "line in the sand" here is that Al-Assad must be allowed to stay; anything that counters that scenario will be most likely me with extreme prejudice.

Apr 08 08:50

It's WMD all over again. Why don't you see it?

The pressures on anyone communicating with western media from such places can only be imagined.

And then there is this simple point. Why would the Syrian government use gas at this stage in a war it has recently begun to win with conventional munitions? You don’t have to believe that the Assad state is saintly to ask this question, and I don’t believe that. Please see http://dailym.ai/2h1XZAv Carla del Ponte, for the UN, has in the past accused the *rebels* of gas use http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10039672/UN...

Wicked and brutal they may well be, but they would have to be stupid and possibly mad to do such a thing, just as an important conference convenes in Brussels https://ec.europa.eu/neighbourhood-enlargement/news_corner/news/brusse... to discuss the future of Syria.

US Insists Russia Responsible for Syria Gas Attack

With Russia complaining that the US launched an illegal attack against Syria on Thursday night, based on unproven allegations of them launching a gas attack against northwestern Idlib Province earlier in the week, US officials have shifted to trying to blame Russia for the incident.

The Pentagon has announced that they are carrying out an investigation into the putative gas attack, saying that they want to see if Russian warplanes “took part” in the attack. Russia has insisted that no such gas attack took place to begin with, and that a Syrian conventional strike hit a rebel warehouse full of chemicals.

US officials don’t seem to be too worried about anyone proving anything, however, with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson insisting in comments today that Russia “bears responsibility” for the attack because they played such a major role in the 2013 chemical disarmament on Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, folks, it's official; in even making this accusation that Russia was somehow complicit in this gas attack, the US government has just jumped the shark, indulging in this desperation on the cusp of madness through which to "justify" this rash, unjustified, stupid attack against Syria.

Lacking Clear Syria Plan, US Threatens More Strikes

Last night, the United States attacked Syria, launching 59 Tomahawk missiles against a Syrian air base in a move that marked a dramatic reverse in Trump Administration policy toward Syria. What that policy actually is, however, is totally unclear.

Reporters unsurprisingly had a lot of questions, and the White House, also unsurprisingly, had no answers, dodging all questions about the goals of the new US intervention in Syria, and what the overall strategy or even next steps either militarily or diplomatically is.

All the White House would say is that the US attacks were “very decisive,” even if they aren’t all that clear what decision they even made. Beyond that, administration officials were talking up the idea that the US might launch more attacks in the near future.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is painfully apparent to me, that this administration has no clue, and no cohesive plan, about moving their Syria policy forward.

And the question which would keep me awake at night is, if there are more attacks, just what, precisely, will Russia do to counter them?!?

Russia's Putin is the master of geopolitical restraint, but I am afraid that there will be a point of no return for him, and that we will be looking at war with Russia over Syria.

Just because a tactic is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly wrong and stupid thing the US government could do, unfortunately, is no guarantee that it will not do it.

Russian Defense Ministry to suspend communications hotline with Pentagon as of April 8More:http://tass.com/defense/940208

Russian Defense Ministry suspends as of April 8 the operations of a communications hotline with the Pentagon, which the two sides established in line with a memorandum of understanding on prevention of incidents and ensuring of flight safety in Syrian airspace, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, the Defense Ministry's official spokesman told reporters on Friday.
"About an hour ago, the US military attache in Moscow was summoned to the Defense Ministry to get an official note, which said the Russian side was suspending as of 00:00 hours on April 8 the observance of its obligations under the memorandum of understanding on prevention of incidents and ensuring of flight safety in the course of operation in the Syrian Arab Republic," he said.

Gen. Konashenkov refuted US media reports claiming Russia had decided to keep the hotline open.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This cessation of the communications hot line is going to nearly guarantee military confrontation between the US and Russia over Syria.

When I saw/heard the US bombing raids over the Syrian airbase, it was almost as though I was hearing the opening salvos to World War 3.

Make America Neocon Again

It doesn’t take a military analyst to grasp that the American attack on a remote Syrian airfield contradicts every possible military rationale. If America really believed that Assad possessed a WMD stockpile and kept it in al-Shayrat airbase, launching a missile attack that could lead to a release of lethal agents into the air would be the last thing it would do. If America was determined to ‘neutralise’ Assad’s alleged ‘WMD ability’ it would deploy special forces or diplomacy. No one defuses WMD with explosives, bombs or cruise missiles. It is simply unheard of.

America targeted al-Shayrat because it knew with certainty that there were no WMD in that location. It was a firework show. It had no military objective.

Cable News Praises Trump On Syria, Because Bombing Stuff Is ‘Presidential’

President Donald Trump announced the first serious military intervention of his young presidency on Thursday evening, a strike on a Syrian air base launched in retaliation for a horrific chemical weapons attack on civilians earlier in the week.

The strike was largely symbolic, and some critics of the move saw it as little more than a slap on the wrist for Syrian President Bashar Assad, whom the U.S. has accused of orchestrating the chemical attack. And while it raised a number of questions about a possible retaliation, civilian casualties, legality, and just how comprehensive the military strategy was, there was one constituency that, by and large, approved.

On cable news, Trump’s decision to take action was nothing short of heroic.

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria said Friday morning that “Donald Trump became President of the United States” the moment the bombs started dropping.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One of the greatest qualities in a true, national leader is restraint; what President Trump demonstrated, with this bombing run against a Syrian air base on Thursday, is that he is pathologically incapable of exercising this trait, and is now perceived by the world as an orange-haired orangutan, ordering the flinging the destructive, high-tech equivalent of poo.

And that statement by CNN's Zakaria demonstrates, in a profoundly painful way, how deeply the corporate presstitutes are faithfully in bed American Deep State.

This bombing, when there was absolutely no logical reason for Al-Assad to have ordered this chemical attack, was massively ill-advised, and has greatly complicated the relationship between Russia and the United States, and may lead to a military confrontation past the point of no return.

The reality is that the CIA gave the jihadists poison gas, and showed them how to use it in 2013, wanting to frame the Al-Assad government for the attack in order to justify an invasion of Syria>
2013: U.S. 'BACKED PLAN TO LAUNCH CHEMICAL WEAPON ATTACK ON SYRIA AND BLAME IT ON ASSAD'S REGIME'

The bottom line, historically, is that the American government lies to create an agenda to justify it doing whatever it wants, whenever it wants to it, and such agenda frequently has absolutely no basis in reality.

MICHAEL SAVAGE TURNS ON TRUMP, SAYS SYRIAN GAS ATTACK WAS FALSE FLAG OPERATION

Conservative talk show host, Michael Savage, who fervently supported Trump during the Presidential campaign, soured on him today. Savage, referencing his background in science, having a PhD in epidemiology, said the alleged gas attack in the ISIS controlled city of Idlib was most likely phosgene and not sarin.

Backing up his claim that the attack did not contain sarin, Savage made reference to photos showing first responders attending to bodies without gloves or protective gear. Had sarin been used in the attack, all of those men in white helmets would be dead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Welcome to our world, Michael Savage, and the deep sense of betrayal Michael and I feel by this rash, unwarranted, knee-jerk act by President Trump; the world has become a far more dangerous place because of this action, and I shudder to think what will happen if there is a direct confrontation between the US and Russian military over Syria.

Airstrikes on Syria might also send message to North Korea

With all eyes on the Syria airstrikes, however, the expected showdown over North Korea policy ended with no significant breakthroughs to announce.

The two leaders instead broadly vowed to work more closely to get the North to abandon its nuclear weapons, a vow that Pyongyang has heard many times before.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes, Trump's strike into Syria sent a message, but probably the wrong one.

First, the strike was botched, with only 23 cruise missiles actually hitting the target. The other cruise missiles are known to have hit the villages of Shayrut, Al-Hamrat, and Al-Manzul, miles away from the intended target, killing civilians, including children.

Second, the US Government has a long and dark track record of using lies to justify invasions. We all remember that whopper about Saddam's nuclear weapons. Less remembered is that the US Government tried to claim Assad gassed his own people in 2013 and 2014, with subsequent investigations revealing that it was the US-backed rebels carrying out the attacks to frame Assad. That explains why this last attack was rushed through before any investigation could be carried out.

But if you think about it, the claim that Assad gassed his own people is absurd on the face of it. He has almost won his war against the US-backed rebels who have been trying to steal his nation for almost 6 years. Peace talks were just starting in Brussels to bring the way to an end. And only last Monday, the White House had indicated a willingness to allow Assad to remain as President if he won the next election.

So where is Assad's motive to do something as stupid as gas his own people? It provides no military advantage at all, especially since the attack was against civilians and not the rebels. Indeed it is obvious that the choice of civilians and children was intentional, to manufacture the greatest possible horror at what "Assad" had done. Civilians and children were the targets in the 2013 and 2014 false-flag attacks, including Assad's supporters, the Alawites! From a propaganda perspective, the goal of creating shock and horror is to trick people into not thinking about what is being claimed, because once they start thinking about it, the lie quickly falls apart!

The attack aids the US-backed rebels who have started to regain ground in Syria now that Syria's defenses have been weakened by Trump's cruise missile attack.

The attack allows the Neo-Con war-hawks to promote their agenda of regime change.

The gas attack benefits Assad's enemies, not Assad.

We have been down this road before. Fool me once...

So, what is the message that was sent? That the US Government makes up fairy tales and then invades innocent nations on the basis of those fairy tales, to capture their resources (mostly oil and oil revenue). Leaders of every nation, not just North Korea, are going to hang onto their nuclear weapons as a deterrent to being invaded all that much harder. Those nations without nuclear weapons to deter invasion are probably deciding to acquire them, possibly on the black market, such as when Israel tried to sell nuclear weapons to the former government of South Africa.

The message sent is not the one intended, and the world just became a more dangerous place because of it!

45 times Trump said attacking Syria was a bad idea and might start World War III

President Donald Trump's administration ordered a missile attack on the Syrian government's al-Shayrat airbase near Homs on Thursday evening, taking a rapid about-face on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to a military conclusion in the wake of a chemical attack which killed scores and left hundreds injured.

But Trump has repeatedly spoken out against attacking the Syrian government, suggesting U.S. involvement in the conflict could make a bad problem worse and possibly lead to a global war.

In October, Trump blasted then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's position on Syria — that the U.S. military should take out al-Assad's airfields, the exact type of strike Trumphe ordered Thursday — by saying attacking a Russian-backed government could start World War III.

Only 23 out of 59 US missiles hit target, damage is "laughable" - Syrian officer

This is a joke. The USN hit a salvage and repair yard. Maybe the US Military isn't behind Trump!

A military source from the Syrian Arab Republic has disclosed the details of the consequences of the US’ missile strike on Syria’s Sharat airfield:

"The Shayrat airfield has for six months already been used by the Syrian Army as a ‘dump’ where the Syrian Arab Republic’s armed forces' old and already decommissioned military equipment waits before being sent to scrap or dismantling for old parts.
According to experts, the total damage of the missile strike was no more than 3-5 million US dollars. At the same time, by using not so tricky math, it is clear that for recycling such old Syrian equipment the US Army lost around 90 million US dollars.

Russian Defence Ministry: "American cruise missile strike had been planned long before"

Today it is obvious that the American cruise missile strike had been planned long before this event. It is necessary to conduct reconnaissance operations, to plan and prepare the missile flight paths, and put them on full combat alert. It is clear for any specialist that the decision for the missile strike on Syria had been made well in advance of the events in Khan Sheikhoun, which have become just a formal reason for the attack, while the demonstration of military power has been dictated only by reasons of internal policy.

Only 23 US cruise missiles reached their target - Russian Defence Ministry

Russia's Defense Ministry assessed the combat effectiveness of the US cruise missile strike at the airbase in Syria as "extremely low." According to the Russian defense department, only 23 of 59 cruise missiles fired from American destroyers have reached their targets, official representative for the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation, Igor Konashenkov told reporters on April 7, RIA Novosti reports. "According to Russian means of objective control, only 23 missiles have reached the Syrian airbase. The place of the fall of the remaining 36 cruise missiles is unknown," Konashenkov said. He specified that the US cruise missile attack destroyed a warehouse, an educational building, a dining room, six MiG-23 aircraft in repair hangars, as well as a radar station. "Thus, the combat effectiveness of the American missile strike against the Syrian air base is extremely low," Konashenkov stated.

Reports of Chemical Attack Appeared Before Syrian Airstrike in Idlib - Syrian FM

The accusations against the Syrian government army allegedly using chemical weapons in the incident in the Syrian province of Idlib make no sense since Damascus has been succeeding in fighting terrorism on all fronts, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said Thursday.

“In such context [of government’s army success] would it be logical for us to use chemical weapons,” Muallem said.

Moreover, the first reports of the chemical attack in the province of Idlib appeared a few hours before the Syrian Air Forces conducted an airstrike on an al-Nusra Front ammunition depot on April 4, Walid Muallem noted.

"The chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun was reported at 06:00 am, while the first airstrike by the Syrian army on an ammunition depot of al-Nusra terrorists with chemical weapons inside it was carried out at 11:00 am," Muallem said.

Evidence Calls Western Narrative About Syrian Chemical Attack Into Question

Although Western media immediately accused Bashar al-Assad of participating in a gas attack against his own people, the evidence indicates that the intended target was not immediately in a civilian area and was in fact a location where Syrian White Helmets were on the scene with rebel groups at what observers have claimed was a storage facility for conventional and chemical munitions. Additionally, evidence indicates that rebel groups may have had prior knowledge of the attack and knew that there was a risk of chemical weapons being unleashed. The attack also came in the aftermath of a trip by Senator John McCain to meet with groups known to associate with radical jihadist factions in Syria, at a time when the United States government has been engulfed in a power struggle between different political factions who disagree strongly over what should be appropriate policy in regards to the Syrian civil war.

Russia has pledged to “increase the effectiveness” of the Syrian military’s air defenses after a U.S. airstrike on an airfield held by Syrian forces, Russian news agency Interfax reports.

Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Friday that Moscow would take steps to “strengthen and raise the effectiveness of the Syrian armed forces’ systems of anti-aircraft defense systems.”

However Konashenkov stopped short of pledging fresh deployments, and Russia also has air defenses at its own facilities in Syria. What is more, the Kremlin admitted the Russian military was notified by the U.S. before the strike and refused to comment on why it did not attempt to stop it.

Furious Vladimir Putin has called the US airstrikes on Syria an 'illegal act of aggression' and suspended a deal to avoid mid-air clashes with American fighter jets over the war-torn country.

The Russian President warned of grave damage to relations between Washington and Moscow after 60 Tomahawk missiles were fired at al-Shayrat airbase near Homs.

Syrian Army officials described the attack as an act of 'blatant aggression', saying it had made the US 'a partner' of ISIS, the ex-Nusra Front and other 'terrorist organisations'.

The US insists the base was used by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces to launch a deadly chemical attack that killed 80 on Tuesday.

EXCLUSIVE: Act of Revenge. Observations from Syrian political commentator Afra’a Dagher

It would be completely naive to accept American allegations about the supposed chemical attacks on Idlib which occurred three days ago. It was an obvious and odious lie which America then passed on as fact, without allowing a full independent investigation. Yet America believed it, or at least pretended to believe it and their response was to launch 59 American Tomahawk missiles on Syrian airfield Al- Sha’ayrat in Homs province.

The Al-Sha’ayrat airbase was the place from which Syria fired anti-missile Sam rockets at attacking Israeli warplanes, two weeks ago. Syria downed one of the four warplanes, hit another and forced the remaining two fighter jets to quickly fly out of Syrian airspace.

This sent a strong message to Israel, a state which continues to illegally occupy Syrian territory, in addition to the decades long occupation of Palestine.

US Strikes on Syria: The World on the Brink of Global Conflict

The United States launched a missile strike on a Syrian airbase in the province of Homs. According to US officials, the attack was "an act of retaliation" for the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian province of Idlib.

On April 5, there were reports that the Syrian Air Force hit the city of Khan-Sheikhun (the stronghold of an-Nusra) with chemical munitions. The US blamed Syria and its allies, Russia and Iran. Damascus, in turn, said that it launched an air strike at the ammunition depot, where chemical weapons were being prepared.

The unilateral strike of the United States was not supported by the UN Security Council. In addition, an independent investigation into what happened was not even initiated.

Trump Weighs Military "Saturation Strike" In Syria, Resulting In Russian Deaths

The Pentagon has briefed President Trump on various military options the US can conduct in response to the poison gas attack in Syria that killed scores of civilians, and which Washington has blamed on the Syrian government, a U.S. official told Reuters.

Options include things like implementing a "no fly zone" or grounding aircraft used by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces, an official quoted by Reuters said.

Another option also includes the use of Tomahawk cruise missiles to overwhelm Russian air defense systems used by the Syrian military. The official did not comment on how likely military action might be which, if any, options might be recommended by the Pentagon. According to the Intercept, this would be a “saturation strike” using dozens of cruise missiles designed to hit Syrian military targets —including military air fields — in an effort to limit future Syrian Air Force attacks on rebel positions, according to the two U.S. military officials.
