Russia warns US not to ‘play with fire’ in Syria – Lavrov

Russia’s foreign minister is the latest official to warn the US against using a possible chemical weapons provocation to justify a new strike against Syrian forces. He said Moscow warned the West not to play with fire in Syria.

Sergey Lavrov reiterated the warning that a staged chemical weapons attack in Syria’s Idlib province may trigger a US-led attack on the forces loyal to Damascus.

“A new provocation is being prepared by the West to hamper the anti-terrorist operation in Idlib,” Lavrov said during a joint media conference with his Syrian counterpart, Walid Muallem. “We have facts on the table and have issued a strong warning to our Western partners through our Defense Ministry and our Foreign Ministry not to play with fire.”

You Want A Real List? Directory Of Accurate Alt Media Sources On Syria

As mainstream media doubles down in its coordinated propaganda against the Syrian government and in support of direct Western military intervention, the alternative media has been going up against unprecedented censorship on the part of the social media and Internet corporate giants at the same time. US Rejects Russia's Data on Chemical Weapons Provocations in Syria - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that it seemed the US had issued threats to Damascus in order to prevent the expulsion of terrorists from Idlib province.

According to Lavrov, Russia cited more and more facts that confirm the forthcoming staging of the use of chemical weapons as a false flag in order to blame the Syrian government.

US officials "say that this is not true, but they cannot bring any facts to the basis of their position," he added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ever the statesman, Lavrov has called this correctly.

It is not a question of IF, but when, such an attack will take place; I would imagine that the Trump administration will order it at a precise point in time to maximize the effect of such a false flag over the coming Holiday weekend, which means we could be looking at it happening from any time potentially from tomorrow, or Friday, forward.

The US response will be so draconian and so swift, that there will be no real time for discovery of who, and why, this was done, and no time for critical thinking, or conscious, questioning voices to be heard.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 29, 2018: GOVERNMENT FORCES LAUNCH FINAL PUSH TO ELIMINATE ISIS IN AL-SAFA

Syrian government forces have restored control of the Hatil Dam near the administrative border between al-Suwayda and Rif Dimashq after brief clashes with ISIS terrorists. The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has also repelled an attack by ISIS on its positions in Khirbat Abu Khashabeh in the al-Safa area.

According to state-run media, ISIS suffered significant casualties in the recent clashes. However, such reports lack photo and video evidence.

Clashes between the SAA and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) erupted in the northern countryside of Hama, near the administrative border of Idlib province. The SAA carried out a series of artillery strikes on Hayat Tahrir al-Sham targets reportedly destroying two vehicles and eliminating at least five terrorists.

Pro-militant sources also reported alleged air and artillery strikes by government forces in the villages of al-Lataminah, Kafr Zayta and Qalaat al-Madik.

Bogdasarov: A Russian Response To A New US Attack On Syria Should Include Sinking The Warships

Russia must respond to US strikes against Syria by destroying not only missiles, but also the ships that launch them. This was stated by political scientist Semyon Bagdasarov.

According to the expert, the Americans want to organize a provocation with chemical weapons in Syria in order to justify a missile attack on government forces, since this is the only way to stop the Syrian army, which has almost freed the country from US-funded militants. The connection between the impending provocation and Washington can easily be traced from the concentration of serious military forces (destroyers, bombers and missiles) in the immediate vicinity of Syria.

“The United States continues to increase the number of cruise missile carriers in the Middle East in connection to the preparations in Idlib province for yet another provocation with the alleged ‘use of chemical weapons,'” said the representative of the Russian entity.

According to the Major General, the American destroyer equipped with 28 Tomahawk missiles that recently entered the waters of the Mediterranean Sea could attack any part of Syria.

White Helmets accompany large delivery of poisonous chemicals to militants in Syria – MoD

A large supply of chemicals has been delivered to the militants in Syria’s Idlib with the assistance of the White Helmets aid group in order to stage a provocation and blame the Syrian government, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.
The Russian military has received information from several sources in Idlib Province that “a large supply of poisonous agents has been brought to the city of Saraqib on two trucks from the village of Afs,” Major-General Aleksey Tsygankov, head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria, said in a statement.

The chemicals were delivered to an arms depot, used by the militant group Ahrar al-Sham, “accompanied by the eight members of the White Helmets organization,” Tsygankov said, adding that the cargo was met by two high-ranked Ahrar al-Sham commanders.

Israel’s Military Strategy a Failure

The failure of the coordinated efforts of the West, its Arab allies, and Israel to redraw the map of the Middle East by forcing regime change in Syria has exposed Israel’s declining power across the region.

Russia’s intervention in the Syrian war on the side of Syria’s government turned the tide against ISIS, al Qaeda, and the al-Nusra Front who received arms, intelligence, and training from the West and its allies, especially Britain, France, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. It also placed a spotlight on a regime change policy that had all the hallmarks of a neoconservative agenda that risked helping Israel find an excuse to go to war with Hezbollah in Lebanon and provoke a major confrontation with Iran that would drag in Western powers.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 28, 2018: US CREATES STRIKE FORCE TO ATTACK SYRIA

The US military is creating a strike force to carry out an attack on government forces in Syria, which is to be justified by a staged chemical attack in the province of Idlib, the Russian military says.

Besides the already noted deployment of the USS The Sullivans to the Persian Gulf and the rebasing of a B-1B Lancer strategic bomber to an air base in Qatar, the missile destroyer USS Ross carrying 28 Tomahawk cruise missiles entered the Mediterranean. Thus, the US could launch at least 84 Tomahawk cruise missiles and 24 AGM-158 joint air to surface stand-off missiles (JASSM) if it were to decide to strike the war-torn country right now.

US-UK Chemical Weapons Plot in Syria Exposed

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov says the UK is plotting a chemical attack in Syria to be blamed on Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian Arab Army. He said this will be used as a pretext for a direct attack on the Syrian government by the United States.

TASS posted Konashenkov’s remarks on Saturday.

“According to the information confirmed simultaneously by several independent sources, the active terrorist grouping Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra) is plotting a new provocation with the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government forces against civilians in the Idlib province,” Konashenkov said.

Hay?at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is but the latest al-Qaeda clone. It is holed up in Idlib to make a final stand in the long and disastrous war against the Islamic State, the most vicious to date of the al-Qaeda spinoffs.

Is the US and Its Allies Preparing to Bomb Syria? Towards a “No Fly Zone” in Northern Syria?

Are the U.S. France and Britain preparing to launch punitive airstrikes against Syria in reprisal for another (forthcoming) “false flag” Chemical Weapons attack allegedly ordered by president Bashar al Assad against his own people.

U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton is reported to have told his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, that “Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may be preparing to use chemical weapons to recapture the northwestern province of Idlib from rebels.”

On August 22, at a press conference in Jerusalem, John Bolton, Trump’s (“Humanitarian”) National Security Adviser expressed his “concern” intimating that Assad is preparing to “kill his own people”:

“We are obviously concerned about the possibility that Assad may use chemical weapons again, …

Webmaster's Commentary:

The tired old premise Bolton is "trotting out" to his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, has one absolutely fatal flaw; there is absolutely no logical reason for Al Assad to do this, now that he, with Russian and Iranian help, have pretty much taken the country back under Damascus' control.

So here is the translation, and please note that it it is primarily for US domestic consumption, because the Iranians, Syrians, and Russians know better: we are being "set up" for a US/NATO false flag in Syria, as the justification for creating a "no fly zone" against the country, if not bombing the hell out of it outright.

The question here for me, is what will Russia do when this happens?!?

IS this the way the US is going to "justify" a war against Russia in Syria?!?

Were I a betting person, I would bet that this will be in place for executing next month, possibly right after the Labor Day holiday here in the US.

President Trump is desperate for something to distract the American people from the events of last week, in terms of the Manafort convictions and the Cohen plea deal, and my guess is, that it will either be military action against Syria, or against Iran, both "favorite enemies" of this administration.

Russian Official Shocks By Urging Tactical Nuke Deployment In Syria After Bolton Warning

The long-running US and Russian proxy war in Syria has been largely forgotten of late, but suddenly snapped back into international headlines with John Bolton's warning Assad and Russia this week that Washington will respond with "greater military force" should claims of a Syrian government chemical attack emerge in Idlib.

In response, Russia subsequently warned of a staged "chemical provocation" coming and it appears a war of words is yet again ratcheting up over Syria, which has the very real potential of turning into an actual war.

It fits a familiar pattern on Syria since Russian intervention at the invitation of President Bashar al-Assad in 2015: just when it appears the jihadists are on the brink of final defeat, and as stability is returning after seven years of grinding war, something happens to bring things right back to the brink of global crisis and escalation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This suggestion, in light of a potential US/Israeli "false flag" chemical attack at Idlib, to be blamed on the Syrians and Russians, demonstrates how quickly such a war could be cranked up to the point of no return.

And unfortunately, with the Manafort verdicts, and the Cohen plea-deal running the corporate news cycle right now, President Trump is dreadfully in need of a distraction, to turn attention away from the vomit-inducing, issue of his having hush money paid to either former flames, or women who wanted their "15 minutes of fame " (or utter contempt) for saying that they had a relationship with him.

What I hope the President understands is, how quickly a tactic like this (a false flag in Idlib) can get completely out of control, to the point of creating a shooting war against Russia.

Perhaps he may think that next week, with Americans generally distracted by the upcoming Labor Day holiday, may be "the perfect moment" to initiate such a false flag, or have the IDF do it.

But I hope (and pray) he understands that the ramifications of such an action may become impossible to stop, once they has been placed into motion; and the outcomes of such a war, may be both horrific.... and irreversible.

The painfully striking differences between the stances of candidate Trump - and then President Trump- are very difficult, and disappointing, to deal with, two years into his presidency.

I have to wonder if the American people will ever get a candidate who will really champion the needs and concerns of People over those of Israel, but am beginning to doubt that this is possible.

Indeed, Ryabkov’s statements today clarifies that Russia respects Iran’s presence in Syria which he described as lawful. Terrorists readying chemical attack to frame Damascus & provide pretext for US strikes –

The US and its allies are preparing new airstrikes on Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said, adding that militants are poised to stage a chemical weapons attack in order to frame Damascus and provide a pretext for the strikes.
The attack would be used as a pretext for US, UK and French airstrikes on Syrian targets, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov said. USS ‘The Sullivans,’ an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided missile destroyer, was already deployed to the Persian Gulf a couple of days ago, he added.

Bolton calls on Al-Qaeda to stage more chemical attacks in Syria

In a move that was entirely predictable, the US administration is once again threatening to bomb Syria if there is a “chemical weapons attack”.
This was entirely predictable because that chemical attack script has been read out, with salty crocodile tears, fake concern, and mocked indignation by US talking heads over the years - since 2012, in fact, when former US President Obama himself drew his red line on Syria.

The latest script-reader to toe the chemical hoax line is President Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, who on August 22, stated: “...if the Syrian regime uses chemical weapons we will respond very strongly and they really ought to think about this a long time.”

Beyond the tattered veil of moral superiority that is US war propaganda, Bolton's words were clearly a very public command to Al-Qaeda and co-extremists to stage yet another fake chemical attack.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, we are being set up - yet again - by this administration for a further "justification" for an enhanced US military presence in Syria.

Please do not believe, for one millisecond, that Al Assad is profoundly stupid enough to poison his own people with chemicals.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 24, 2018: ISIS ATTACKS US-OCCUPIED OIL FIELDS IN EUPHRATES VALLEY

On August 22, an IED blast hit a vehicle of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the village of al-Hawaji west of the Omar oil fields on the eastern bank of the Euphrates. According to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq, four SDF members were killed in the attack.

Separately, a booby-trapped motorcycle hit an oil truck of the SDF near the village of Juma east of the Omar oil fields. Amaq claimed that ISIS members had captured and executed the truck driver.

In response to the attacks, warplanes of the US-led coalition carried out a series of strikes south of al-Omar allegedly killing several ISIS members in the area, according to pro-SDF sources.

This was not the first time when the terrorist group engaged the SDF in the oil fields area. On August 18, over 20 ISIS members stormed SDF positions near al-Omar. At least 7 ISIS members were killed in the followed clashes.

In this major development, it has been revealed to FRN that ISIS has been now recorded receiving a weapons drop from ‘unmarked’ helicopters. Serious questions are raised by the Russian Foreign Ministry on the delivery of arms and ammunition to the ISIS terrorist organization close to the Afghanistan border with other Central Asian states.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that Russia has registered helicopters of unknown origin delivering weapons to forces of ISIS and other jihadist organizations in Afghanistan.

The revelation was made by the spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zacharova. She said:

“We again draw attention to the flights of unknown helicopters in northern Afghanistan that deliver arms and ammunition to Islamic State [ISIS] fighters and Taliban militants,”

“According to Afghan media reports, as well as local residents, such flights have recently been recorded in Sari-Pul province,” the ministry spokesman said.

Russia slams Bolton's Syria claim: We're not stuck

Russia has blasted claims by US National Security Adviser John Bolton that it's "stuck" in Syria, warning American officials against making such remarks while their own troops are also on the ground in the conflict-ridden Arab country.

"It is not correct for anyone, let alone our counterparts in Washington, to claim that Russia has stuck someplace," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Wednesday. "Let us not forget that US military personnel is present on Syrian soil, too. This should be born in mind."

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 23, 2018: 86,000 MILITANTS ELIMINATED DURING RUSSIAN OPERATION IN SYRIA

On August 22, the Russian Defense Ministry released a video providing some additional numbers on the current results of its military operation in Syria. US National Security Advisor John Bolton claimed during his visit to Israel that the Russians are “stuck” in Syria and this is why the US has an upper hand in any negotiations in the conflict. Bolton claimed that Moscow is now “looking for others to fund post-war reconstruction” of the country describing this as “an opportunity for Washington to press for Iranian forces to quit”.

NETANYAHU URGES US TO RECOGNISE ISRAEL’S RIGHT TO GOLAN

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today said that he would not back down on his demand that the US recognise Israel’s right to the occupied Golan Heights.

“I will not give up our expectation that the United States recognise Israeli sovereignty over Golan,” he said in a statement.

Netanyahu’s remarks come one day after US National Security Adviser John Bolton told Reuters that the US administration was “not considering the possibility” of recognising Israel’s right to the Syrian area.

Israel occupied the Syrian Golan Heights during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, when it also occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

The UN continues to describe the Israel-held Golan Heights as “occupied” territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Prime Minister Netanyahu, a word, please: "demanding" and "expecting" the US to recognize occupied Golan Heights as Israeli(and the attendant oil and natural gas under its ground to also be Israeli) is not .....urging.

Russia: No talks with US on Iran's Exit from Syria

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov underlined that Moscow has held no talks with Washington on Iran's presence or exit from Syria.

We have never discussed Iran’s withdrawal from Syria with the US," Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

Peskov's remarks came in reaction to the recent claims by US National Security Adviser John Bolton who claimed that "the US, Israel and Russia have common interests in minimizing Iran’s influence in Syria and Putin and Trump have reached agreements in this respect".

In relevant remarks on mid-August, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow sees intentions of the US and the West in general to impede the Astana process for the Syrian settlement.

"We won’t probably see any direct linkage with the Syrian crisis in the statements made by the US side when it declares sanctions against our countries>>>

New “Humanitarian” Tech Program In Syria “Invented” By Former State Dep’t, Arab Spring Participants

The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that due to the “absolutely deconstructive” stance of the US one also shouldn’t expect any positive decisions on rebuilding Syria and return of refugees to the country from the UN Security Council.

He reminded that following the talks between US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, last week, Washington said that that “any discussion of reconstruction was premature absent a political solution” in Syria.

After holding talks in Israel, US National Security Adviser John Bolton is expected to fly to Geneva to meet with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev. This will be the first meeting between the two countries senior officials following the Putin-Trump summit in Helsinki, Kommersant writes. While in Israel, Bolton made it clear on numerous occasions that he intended to bargain hard in Geneva. Topping the meeting’s agenda will be Syria, where Iran has been maintaining a significant presence, to the US and Israel's chagrin. Trump's national security adviser also made an intriguing statement in Jerusalem, saying that the US, Israel and Russia had a common goal to contain Iran in Syria. What may unfold in Syria's Idlib ?

What may unfold in Syria's Idlib and why is a 'bloodbath' likely?
Idlib is the Syrian government's next target, experts say, but other scenarios may unfold with regional players at hand.

Just weeks after scoring a major military victory in the south, Syria's President Bashar al-Assad appears set to fully open a new, more complex, front in the country's war - now in its eighth year.

The key northwestern Idlib province is the Syrian opposition's last major bastion in the country. It is currently home to nearly three million people, half of whom are internally displaced, and encloses what was once a major commercial highway linking Syria to Turkey and Jordan.

Along with sharing a border with Turkey, Idlib is adjacent to Latakia province, a Syrian government stronghold that is home to the biggest military airbase of its major ally, Russia.

Idlib's strategic importance is what makes a government-led assault imminent, experts say, and its capture would put the vast majority of the country under Assad's control.

ISIS GIVEN ‘BREATHING SPACE’ IN PARTS OF SYRIA UNDER US-BACKED FORCES' CONTROL

Islamic State managed to regain access to Syrian oil fields and make profits from selling oil, a new UN report reveals. While the UN did not point fingers, the IS reemergence seems to occur in areas held by the US-backed forces.
“Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant [IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS], having been defeated militarily in Iraq and most of the Syrian Arab Republic during 2017, rallied in early 2018. This was the result of a loss of momentum by forces fighting it in the east of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the recent report from the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Monitoring Team reads. The document is dated July 27, but was only released to the public this week.

The slow-down gave IS “breathing space to prepare for the next phase of its evolution into a global covert network.” As of June 2018, the terrorist group has been controlling “small pockets of territory in the Syrian Arab Republic on the Iraqi border,” effectively carrying on with its quasi-state ways.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 17, 2018: 5TH ASSAULT CORPS WILL PARTICIPATE IN UPCOMING BATTLE FOR IDLIB

On August 16, militant groups operating in western Syria declared the villages of Banes, Birnah, al-Ottomania, Hwair al-Eis, Tell Bajir, Judiydah, Zummar and Jizrea in southwestern Aleppo part of a “military zone” and ordered civilians to leave the area within 48 hours.

Additionally, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and the Turkistan Islamic party had sent reinforcements to southwestern Aleppo.

Local sources link these developments to the ongoing preparations of militant groups to fend off a possible advance of the Syrian Arab Army on their areas in western Syria.

Meanwhile, four units of the Russian-backed 5th Assault Corps – the Assad Shield, the Mahardah Forces, the ISIS Hunters and the Ba’ath battalions – were deployed in the northern countryside of Hama. Earlier, at least four convoys of the Tiger Forces, including battle tanks and artillery pieces, arrived in the same area.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 15, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY ADVANCES ON REMNANTS ISIS CELLS IN AL-SUWAYDA DESERT

On August 14, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) released a statement providing a look at their operations in the area of Afrin against the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (TFSA).

According to the statement, Abdul Razzaq al-Bakr, a TFSA field commander, died on August 8 after being wounded in a bomb explosion in the district of Mabata. On August 11, YPG cells set off a motorcycle-bomb on the road to the village of Kafr Jannah in the district of Shera. The bombing reportedly hit a joint patrol of the TAF and the TFSA killing one Turkish soldier and wounding another. “A number” of TFSA members were allegedly killed.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 14, 2018: SDF SLAMS REPORTS ON NEGOTIATIONS WITH DAMASCUS AS FAKE

On August 13, Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 5 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) near Khmeimim Air Base in the province of Latakia. According to the head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria, Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov, the UAVs were launched by militants from the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Over the past month, UAV attacks on Russia’s airbase have turned into an almost everyday occurrence. On August 12, Russian forces intercepted 2 UAVs and on August 11, one. UAV attacks on the airbase also took place on August 10, July 30 and July 21. All of them were repelled.

The UAV attacks from the Idlib de-escalation zone on Russian military facilities have increased as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and other militant groups are seeing them as one of the very few options to deliver damage to Russian forces and to deliver a PR blow to the Russian military presence in the country.

ISRAEL’S STRATEGIC COLLAPSE: How Putin Sandbagged Netanyahu

Resulting from Russia’s declaration that it would be establishing eight militarized outposts along the de facto Syria-Israel border, the UN has been prodded into action, and is re-engaging its own responsibilities to monitor the region. The UN previously was unable to perform, due to pressure from the US, Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia chiefly, to pressure the UN not to guard the demilitarized zone.

The result of a lacking UN presence was that the area was more easily used by Israel to provide safe harbor, arms, equipment, and medical care to Al-Qaeda and ISIS groups, under these and several related brands. Russia has been looking for a solution ever since. With the US’s waning influence in the region, and significantly reduced force projection capacity, we entered into a new period.

The Syrian General Command has deployed more troops, military equipment and artillery pieces in northern Latakia and northwestern Hama over the past few days. According to pro-militant sources, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies are preparing for a military operation that would target Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra), Horas al-Din and the Turkistan Islamic Party in northern Latakia, the al-Ghab Plains and near the city of Jisr al-Shugur.

At the same time, sporadic clashes have appeared between militants and government troops in the areas of northern Hama and Latakia. However, no active military actions have been reported.
