DHS restarts Obama-era DACA amnesty after judge’s ruling

Amazing! Trump isn't allowed to rescind an executive order.I have never seen such a weak President.

DACA is back up and running, Homeland Security announced this weekend, saying President Trump’s attempt to phase out the Obama-era deportation amnesty is on hold while they fight a court case that ordered them to begin accepting applications again.

Only those among the 800,000 or so previously approved can submit applications for renewal, under the judger’s order. And those covered by DACA will no longer be granted advance parole, which had become a shortcut pathway to citizenship in the Obama administration.

But U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said it will otherwise restore DACA as it was on Sept. 5, before Mr. Trump decided on a six-month phaseout, saying the program was illegal.

How Medicaid Takes Its Money Back After You Die

How the Medicaid Estate Recovery Program Works

Medicade the state-run health insurance program for low-income people, may take its money back from your estate after you die. Known as the Medicaid Estate Recovery Program, Medicaid can recover the money it spent on your healthcare from your estate.

Although the idea of Medicaid taking money that otherwise would have gone to your heirs is distasteful, it becomes more palatable when you look at the reasons behind the MERP program.

Nevada Bundy Prosecution Collapses: The Federal Government Spent a Quarter-Billion Dollars but Couldn’t Convict the Bundys of a Single Crime

In 2013 the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) obtained federal court orders authorizing the agency to “seize and remove to impound” hundreds of Cliven Bundy’s cattle on the public ranges around Bunkerville, Nevada. The agency interpreted these court orders broadly, and descended on the area in April 2014 with some 200 body-armor-wearing agents, semiautomatic weapons, sniper teams, undercover informants, and surveillance cameras aimed at the Bundy residence.

States Threaten "Economic Civil War" On Washington

The new year has only just begun, but already Democratic politicians in the country’s largest high-tax states are threatening lawsuits and publicly touting proposed workarounds to help compensate tax payers for the elimination of the state and local tax (SALT) deductions which were dramatically rolled back, along with deductions for mortgage interest, as part of the White House’s tax reform plan.

During his state of the state address earlier this week, New York Mayor Andrew Cuomo threatened to sue the federal government over the tax bill, claiming that the plan is unconstitutional and overly burdensome to New Yorkers.

“YOU ALL JUST GOT A LOT RICHER,” TRUMP TELLS FRIENDS AT MAR-A-LAGO AFTER SIGNING TAX OVERHAUL

When Donald Trump and the Republican party unveiled its precious tax legislation, outside analysts immediately noted that the bill seemed designed to favor a slim subset of Americans. The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, for example, found that almost a third of the plan’s benefits would go to the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans in 2018. But the president has repeatedly belied that fact as he’s plugged the policy, even claiming on a call to Senate Democrats that his accountant told him he would “get killed” as a result of the legislation. “The deal is so bad for rich people, I had to throw in the estate tax just to give them something,” he added.

Trump Signs Bill Adding Funds for Missile Defense, Destroyer Fixes

>$4 billion for missile defense programs at the Pentagon to combat the ballistic missile threat posed by North Korea, including $200 million to build a new missile field in Alaska;
>$2.1 billion for the Veteran Affairs Department's Veterans Choice Program; and
>$674 million for the Navy to repair the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers USS John S. McCain and USS Fitzgerald, both of which were damaged in separate collisions with commercial vessels in the Pacific this summer, resulting in the combined deaths of 17 sailors.

"We are ordering $4 billion worth of missile defense equipment and missiles," Trump said during a bill signing at the White House. "Very important. Top of the line. Best in the world. We make the best military product in the world, and nobody is even close."

The president added, "And so we're ordering $4 billion worth of missile defense, and that will be done by signing right here and also by notifying the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate, designating the missile defense as emergency defense fund. So it's $4 billion for that and $700 million for various other military forms of equipment. And I'm very honored to be doing that. Our military has been doing a fantastic job in so many ways, with ISIS. And everything they're touching lately has been working out. So we're signing that."

Trump Is Pursuing a Defense Spending Hike and a Pentagon Audit at the Same Time?

Left unmentioned in the president’s speech on Monday regarding the National Security Strategy is that, under his direction, the Pentagon is undergoing its first audit in history. It’s not referenced in the document itself, either, though “restraining Federal spending” and “making government more efficient” are mentioned. The National Interest pointed out last week how little attention the audit is getting.

When the Republicans first made gains back in the Barack Obama era, they did so on the Tea Party wave. Now-forgotten is that many of those emerging political stars, like Rand Paul and Mike Lee, dissented from party orthodoxy on military spending. That legacy carries on, to some extent, today; Paul and Lee were among only eight senators to vote against the National Defense Authorization Act earlier this year.>>>

House GOP approves massive tax overhaul as Senate prepares to vote

House Republicans on Tuesday approved sweeping changes to the U.S. tax code, barreling toward the GOP goal of passing the first major tax overhaul in decades by the end of the year.

It passed the chamber by a 227-203 margin, with Republicans erupting in cheers when the bill garnered enough support. Twelve Republicans — all from high-tax blue states — opposed the plan. As House members voted on the legislation, chants of "shame!" came down from protesters in the chamber's gallery.

The House vote sends the broadly unpopular tax bill to the Senate, where Republicans are expected to push it through by Wednesday morning. With Senate passage, the legislation would go to President Donald Trump to sign it into law.

US 'World Champion of Extreme Inequality', UN Envoy Warns

The United Nations monitor on poverty and human rights has issued a devastating report on the condition of America, accusing Donald Trump and the Republican leadership in Congress of attempting to turn the country into the “world champion of extreme inequality”.

Not only does he warn that the tax bill currently being rushed through Congress will hugely increase already large disparities between rich and poor, he accuses Trump and his party of consciously distorting the shape of American society in a “bid to become the most unequal society in the world”.

Time for the GOP to rally to President Trump and the agenda that won 2016

As evidenced by the outcomes of both the Virginia gubernatorial race and the Alabama Senate special election, no matter what, Democrat voters are going to be extremely motivated in 2018 to take back Congress.

For, this is no time to panic.

Instead, it is time for Republicans to rally to President Trump and the agenda that won the election in 2016. That is, cut taxes, repeal Obamacare, appoint conservative judges, get better trade deals, slash regulations, curb illegal immigration and build the southern border wall. Also, no bad deals on DACA amnesty. The wall is not enough; chain migration has to be ended.

The US Military Is the Biggest "Big Government" Entitlement Program on the Planet

The US economy is caught in a trap. That trap is the Department of Defense: an increasingly sticky wicket that relies on an annual, trillion-dollar redistribution of government-collected wealth. In fact, it's the biggest "big government" program on the planet, easily beating out China's People's Liberation Army in both size and cost. It is not only the "nation's largest employer," with 2.867 million people currently on the payroll, but it also provides government benefits to 2 million retirees and their family members. And it actively picks private sector winners by targeting billions of dollars to an elite group of profit-seeking contractors.

The top five overall recipients collectively pulled in $109.5 billion in FY2016, and their cohorts consistently dominate the government's list of top 100 contractors. They reap this yearly largesse through a Rube-Goldberg-like system of influence peddlers, revolving doors and wasteful taxpayer-funded boondoggles. Finally, it is all justified by a deadly feedback loop of perpetual warfare that is predicated on a predictable supply of blowback.

But this belligerent cash machine doesn't just produce haphazard interventions and shady partnerships>>>

The GOP Tax Bill Eliminates Critical Deductions for Disaster Victims

If devastating wildfires sweep across California again next year—not unlikely considering even Governor Jerry Brown has called it the “new normal”—the hardest hit may not be eligible for the same support as they are this year, thanks to the GOP’s fast-moving tax bill.

As Congress pushes full steam ahead with its controversial plan to cut taxes (mostly for the wealthy and corporations), analysts are finally getting a chance to look at the impact such drastic measures would have on the majority of Americans. One major issue is how the plan would limit taxpayers’ ability to write off damages from future disasters.

Tax Bill: John Cornyn’s Fossil Fuel Provision Would Personally Enrich Republican Lawmakers

When Texas Sen. John Cornyn slipped an obscure tax break for pipeline giants into the GOP tax bill, he wasn't just helping major Republican Party donors, he was also potentially helping 16 of his congressional colleagues. Together those 16 lawmakers — 13 Republicans, three Democrats — own multimillion-dollar stakes in the special investment vehicles that stand to benefit from Cornyn’s amendment. They include three of members of the Texas Congressional delegation: Sen. Ted Cruz and two top Republicans in the U.S. House.

Cornyn’s amendment, which was introduced just hours before the Senate passed the tax bill on Dec. 2, provides a tax deduction for investors in energy-related master limited partnerships (MLPs) — investment entities primarily used by oil and gas pipeline corporations.

Defense Contractors Hold Pentagon Hostage With Contracts

A new Government Accountability Office report, released in October 2017, details problems the services are having keeping the F-35 fleet ready for combat. One problem it highlighted was that, at a time when the Pentagon is desperate to ramp up production of new aircraft, the services have to wait an average of 172 days—nearly six months—to repair components for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), when it should only take between 60 and 90 days. While this aspect of the report garnered most of the headlines, the report reveals a much more fundamental and systemic problem involving most of the latest high-tech weapon systems: Defense contractors are creating complicated support systems for the increasingly complex weapon systems the Pentagon buys, which allows the contractors to secure long-term contracts for which they have no competition from other companies.

The F-35 serves as the ultimate example of this arrangement. Under the current plans, the American people will spend $406.5 billion for research, development, and procurement for a fleet of 2,456 F-35s. That is a staggering figure, but it pales in comparison to the costs to sustain the program. These costs are expected to top $1.2 trillion through 2060>>>

House Republicans Already Shooting Down Tax Bill's Promises

House conservatives are already indicating that they're prepared to block some of the key legislative promises that Senate Republicans demanded in exchange for their vote on tax reform legislation.

Those promises materialized in the frantic final hours of the tax debate last week, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) gave Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) assurances that some of their personal legislative priorities would be dealt with in exchange for their votes.

Collins said she received a promise that the Senate would consider two bipartisan pieces of legislation that would ostensibly mitigate the negative effects that could come from the tax bill’s repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate. Flake said he received a “firm commitment from Senate Leadership and the administration” to work on a permanent protections for the soon-to-be-ended Obama-era program that shields children of undocumented immigrants.
