Milwaukee Jail Staffers Charged in ‘Appalling’ Death of Inmate Denied Water

Three Milwaukee County Jail staffers were given felony charges Monday for their involvement in the 2016 death of a mentally ill inmate, Terrill Thomas, who was denied water for a week as punishment for bad behavior.

At the time of Thomas' death, the jail was overseen by conservative activist Sheriff David Clarke, who retired in August 2017 to join a committee supporting US President Donald Trump.

Sheriff's Maj. Nancy Evans, the jail's former commander, was charged with felony misconduct in office and misdemeanor obstruction after lying to investigators about how long Thomas was denied water and withholding surveillance video that showed water being cut off to Thomas' cell and not being turned on again.

A Slight Bump to Israeli Arrogance

Israeli arrogance might not have ended Saturday, but it surely cracked. Suddenly it became clear that Israel is not alone in the Middle Eastern, that even its immense military power has its limits. There could be a silver lining, if Israel accepts that it cannot forever live by the sword, nor even by advanced airplanes. Perhaps the F-16 that was downed took down with it the doctrine according to which everything can and should be resolved by force; first of all force, always force, only force.

The Trump Peace Plan: A Cauldron Of Deficit, Despair And Desperation

Life in the Gaza Strip — a cauldron of deficit, despair and desperation

Deficit and desperation define life these days in the Gaza Strip. Residents make do with four hours of electricity a day. Most people don't have access to clean water because the supply system is contaminated with sewage. Breakfast for some schoolchildren is a cup of hot water flavored with a dash of salt.

How “America First” Became the Presidency of the Pentagon

The Pentagon’s new National Defense Strategy is the perverse embodiment of the Trump administration’s “America First” policy, putting American military and corporate empire above all else, even if it leads the country into financial ruin and a dangerous global war.
***
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump won over many American voters by his promise to put “America First.” Though this catchphrase was thought – at the time — to imply a populist message of putting the American people first, Trump has largely failed to deliver on his promises to roll back the corporate welfare state and instead invest in everyday Americans — as evidenced by his tax reform bill, the only legislative “victory” of his young presidency

Only weeks later, it emerged that Iraq War architect and former Deputy Secretary of Defense under George W. Bush, Paul Wolfowitz was guiding two of the three most powerful military figures in the Trump administration – James Mattis and H.R. McMaster – via private email

Israel Attacks Syria After Fighter Jet Crashes

Israel has launched what it described as a large-scale air raid in Syria after one of its F-16 fighters crashed while under Syrian anti-aircraft fire.

Twelve sites, including four “Iranian targets” near the Syrian capital, Damascus, were destroyed in the raid, according to an Israeli military spokesman, Jonathan Conricus. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties.

The Israeli F-16 was shot at as it returned on Saturday morning from a raid to destroy Iranian facilities accused of launching a drone into Israel.

flashback: April 2, 2017: Trump Expands Pentagon’s War Authority

While most of the talk about the Pentagon’s proposals for various wars to President Trump has focused on requests for more troops in more countries, a much less publicized effort has also been getting rubber stamped, one giving commanders in those wars increasing autonomy on operations.

Buried in the details of almost every proposal from Iraq and Syria to smaller operations like US troops in Yemen and Somalia, there is always a mention of commanders wanting to be able to conduct strikes at will, both airstrikes and ground raids.

This has been a change that the Pentagon has been quite eager to seek, after years of complaining about President Obama http://orig06.deviantart.net/2093/f/2010/327/f/d/pepe_le_pew_by_ameyzi... >>>

American Hysteria Over Russia Will Lead To Nuclear War

Russian media reacts strongly to the American Nuclear Posture Review, which tries to convince its readers that Russia is trying to take over the world

The US Department of Defense published its 2018 Nuclear Posture Review. This consists of at least two documents that are public domain that detail the assessment the DoD made about nuclear threats from around the world. The language about Russia is curious, for like Russia, the US repeatedly maintains that there is no desire for anything but good relations.

Russia Has The United States By The Balls In Syria

Russia has humiliated the United States again. US forces are in Syria for “economic assets,” said Russian officials. They are not there to fight terrorism or to establish peace in the region. No, they are there to create trouble, declared Russian officials.[1] And they’ve got the evidence to prove it:

“The MoD was referring to an incident which took place on Tuesday in Deir Ez-Zor province, as a Syrian militia unit was moving against a “sleeper cell” of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS). The operation was prompted by a surge in shelling of the positions of Syrian government forces in the area over the past few days, attributed to the covert activities of IS terrorists, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

US Seizing Economic Assets in Syria Instead of Fighting ISIL

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the US-led coalition’s shelling of the Syrian militiamen proves that rather than fighting the ISIL, Washington has been seizing Syria’s economic assets.

The recent incident once again shows that the United States’ illegal military presence in Syria is actually aimed at taking control of the country’s economic assets and not at fighting against the ISIL international terror group," the statement read, TASS reported.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on February 7, "a pro-government militia unit, conducting surveillance and research activities near the al-Isba oil refinery (17 kilometers Southeast of the Salhiyah settlement) to eliminate a militant group shelling the positions of government troops, was shelled with mortars and multiple-launch rocket systems."

South Yemen Protest Over US Drone Strike That Killed Civilians

The latest embarrassing result of a “signature strike” in America’s ever-growing drone war has sparked public protests in South Yemen’s Shabwa Province, where locals expressed outrage at a US attack that killed at least seven civilian members of a single family.

The attack, which took place on January 28, was in a remote part of Shabwa. The victims were family members in a vehicle, who went looking for a missing child in the Said District. The slain were not members of any political or religious organizations.

They were a bunch of guys in a car though, and when the US sees a crowded vehicle they assume it’s militants and attack. These are called “signature strikes,” strikes based on the victims giving the appearance of being a valid target.

Write This Down: Huge Military Budgets Make Us Broke, Not Safe

We’re all tense. Hearing about our fellow citizens in Hawaii scrambling around, looking for a place to hide from a nuclear bomb, will do that to you. So will contests between two unstable world leaders over the size of their nuclear buttons.

Now, some politicians say they’ll protect us by adding massive amounts to the Pentagon budget. This seems like a no-brainer: feel threatened, give more money to the military. But it isn’t.

Practically everyone from the president on down, though, seems to take it as a given. “In confronting these horrible dangers,” Donald Trump said during his State of the Union, “I’m calling on Congress” to “fully fund our great military.”

The president and his party are now looking to add somewhere between $30 and $70 billion more in military spending to their budget for next year>>>

Country is heading for bankruptcy': Lawmakers question military spending

Mattis made a case for more military funding to counter countries threatening “America’s experiment in democracy,” some members of the House Armed Services Committee questioned the expense.
“In a world awash in change and increasing threats, there is no room for complacency.” Mattis said in his opening statement, naming the threats as “rogue regimes such as North Korea and Iran,” Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) and “long-term strategic competition with China and Russia.”

He argued that the lack of predictable funding has “eroded” US advantages in technology and warfighting, and pleaded with the lawmakers to pass a military budget.

“Without sustained, predictable appropriations, my presence here today wastes your time,” Mattis said, adding, “no strategy can survive without the funding necessary to resource it.”

US Airstrikes in Yemen Have Increased Sixfold Under Trump

With the Saudi invasion of Yemen turning sour and causing a humanitarian disaster, and the US having withdrawn most of its troops from the country early in that invasion, US officials have largely sought to downplay their military involvement in Yemen.

In reality, however, the number of US airstrikes being carried out has increased precipitously since President Trump took office, with 21 airstrikes on Yemen reported in 2016, and a more than sixfold increase leaving the 2017 figure at 131 strikes. 10 have been reported so far in January of 2018, suggesting that the escalation continues.

The strikes are theoretically targeted at al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and ISIS, though in practice with US troops in Yemen only “intermittently,” according to the Pentagon’s own accounting, it’s difficult to see how officials could know with any certainty what is being targeted by US warplanes, beyond being remote areas where such factions are believed to be operating.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Presidents Barak Obama and Donald Trump now have one thing in common, both blood-soaked, and vile, besides having been - and being President; responsibility for colluding in Saudi War Crimes in Yemen.

I remember years ago, as a kid, having swallowed the koolade of "America cannot, and would never do, something morally wrong" to another country.

Now, as an adult, and evaluating the global deteriorization demonstrated by world events and falling standards of living,, I am seeing massive US government military interventions through which to expropiateother country's natural resources to which this country has absolutely no moral right; regime change of governments, to make those governments more western-centric, and to insure that those resourcesm are only sold in US dollars.

The images I am about to present are absolutely "lose your lunch" real, graphic, and absolutely ugly, which it comes to Yemen; but I have absolutely no choice but to continue linking to them until the carnage in Yemen stops.

And now, Yemenis are dying from diptheria and cholera, because there is scarce little medication to treat them. the kids you see in this video may be the lucky ones, who are getting treatment in time. Video:children being treated for cholera

I would like to remind our readers that this is being done in your names, and with your tax dollars. We need to have a blunt, and honest, national conversation about why the US government is in collusion with Saudi Arabia in this genocide against the Yemeni people.

Saudis Have Lost Their Gamble in Yemen But Can't Find Honorable Way to Leave

Geopolitical analyst Ulf Sandmark says Saudi Arabia is stuck in the war in Yemen without finding an honorable way to end it and instead continues to gamble by redoubling its input like gambling addicts. According to the analyst, the British, who are financially benefiting from the arms sales to Saudi Arabia, are geopolitically looking for destabilization of the South West Asia region with the aim to block the emerging Chinese New Silk Road (NSR) policy, which is a threat to the British geopolitical policy of Divide and Rule. War Crimes and Genocide in Yemen: Death, Destruction, Starvation

The Saudi-led coalition unleashed a barrage of air strikes on Yemen, slaughtering as many as 71 civilians (many of them children) within a period of 48 hours, reported the Qatar-based news network Al Jazeera on Christmas Eve. This massacre attained little attention and dissolved into history, forgotten. On the next day, December 26, the coalition targeted more sites, killing at least 68 men, women and children.

Those who are not annihilated by bombs risk dying from starvation. The Yemeni people are under blockade, enforced intentionally, with an aim to starve them into submission.

By definition a vicious war crime, it is not a newsworthy subject across the Western media sphere. Silence is particularly well kept at the U.S. news network MSNBC, found a study conducted by an investigative team of Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR). Two Israeli Officers Involved In Lebanon Car Bomb Attack Against Hamas Official

A recent report has exposed that two Israeli agents were involved in the car bomb explosion in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon, which slightly wounded a member of the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, earlier this month.

According to a report published by Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper on Monday, the pair was aided by two locals in the assassination operation against Mohammed Hamdan on January 14. They left Lebanon using Georgian, Swedish and Iraqi passports.

The report added that Lebanese security officials have now managed to identify the two Israeli officers, obtain their photographs and copies of their identity documents, the date of their entry into and exit from Lebanon, their respective roles in the operation and the nationality they used to operate under disguise.

Local sources confirmed on Saturday that the warplanes pounded the villages of al-Bahara, killing 30 civilians, mostly women and children.

The sources further said that the death toll would likely increase as some of the injured are in critical conditions.

No Taxpayers’ Nickel is Spared in Washington’s Military Adventures Worldwide

At the beginning of 2017, the chief of US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) General Raymond Thomas while speaking in front of one of the Senate committees announced that:
We operate and fight in every corner of the world. Rather than a mere ‘break-glass-in-case-of-war’ force, we are now proactively engaged across the ‘battle space’ of the Geographic Combatant Commands… providing key integrating and enabling capabilities to support their campaigns and operations.

Russia commemorates anniversary of lifting Siege of Leningrad. Putin visits his brother's grave

No more than 800,000 residents were remaining in the city by the end of the blockade out of the 3 million that had lived in Leningrad and its suburbs. According to various estimates, from 641,000 to 1 million Leningraders died as a result of hunger, bombings and artillery shelling. Almost 34,000 people were wounded, 716,000 residents were left without shelter and 1.7 million were evacuated across the Road of Life and by air in 1941-1942... On January 27, Russia marks the 74th anniversary since Soviet troops completely lifted the Nazi blockade of Leningrad (currently St. Petersburg), ending the 872-day siege of the city. In St. Petersburg, about 30,000 people, including WWII veterans and senior officials, attended memorial events at the city’s Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery, where 420,000 civilians and 50,000 soldiers of the Leningrad Front are buried in 186 mass graves. Syria: Peace Proposal by US, Saudi Arabia Not Even Worth Ink

The Syrian ambassador to the United Nations and head of the government delegation to intra-Syrian peace talks has strongly rejected a proposal offered by some countries, including the US and Saudi Arabia, for the resolution of the Syrian crisis, saying the so-called peace plan is “not even worth the ink.”

"Every word and sentence of this unofficial paper is rejected. And it is not worth the ink that it is printed on because the people will not and do not accept solutions which come down on parachutes or on the backs of tanks,” Ja’afari said.

Furthermore, he blasted the five countries and told reporters that the proposal was “tantamount to a black comedy.”

“All of them have participated in the bloodshed of the Syrian people,” he said of the five nations, denouncing Washington as the creator, financial supporter and protector of the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group.

Beware the Last Apartheid Regime in the World

The Trump White House should hold its head in shame. Instead of reversing President Donald Trump’s universally-condemned decision to declare Al-Quds as Israel’s new capital, it sent this week Vice President Mike Pence to the Israeli Knesset to give a speech loudly praising “the miracle of Israel,” and presenting America’s support for Israel as a question of siding with good over evil.

Far from it, America has sided with evil over good and the desperate attempt by Pence to focus heavily on defending President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem Al-Quds as Israel’s capital, citing biblical stories about the city, and suggesting that King David’s declaration of it as the capital millennia ago still applies, won’t change the irrefutable fact that this is still an apartheid regime condemned and isolated the world over.

Not surprising, Pence used his speech to also appease Tel Aviv by attacking the Iran nuclear deal, terming the pact as a “disaster,” and accusing Iran of being a brutal dictatorship that seeks to dominate the entire Arab world. He vowed the US would “no longer certify” the deal, leading to applause from the Israeli MPs.

Lest the pro-Israel US vice president forgets, the country he criticized is the same country that helped Iraq and Syria defeat the terrorist group of ISIL, Al-Qaeda and their affiliates in the Levant.>>>

Over 650 Syrian civilians killed in US-led airstrikes in 40 months: SOHR

A monitoring group says more than 600 children have lost their lives ever since the US-led coalition purportedly fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group started its aerial assaults against residential areas across Syria back in September 2014.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that 2,815 people, including 655 minors and 481 women, were killed in US-led aerial attacks against civilian areas in the conflict-plagued Arab country over the past 40 months.

The London-based watchdog said the aerial assaults were conducted in the provinces of Hasakah, Raqqah, Aleppo, Idlib and Dayr al-Zawr, noting that the remains of 19 victims still await identification.

It added that the US-led coalition continues to carry out airstrikes across Syria despite the fact that the militants are controlling only pockets of Syrian territories following their humiliating defeats in the northern and eastern parts of the country.

Rex Tillerson Rewrites Syria, Ultimately Blames Iran, Essentially Declares War

Without telling you explicitly, and with no authority from Congress as required by the Constitution, the U.S. has invaded and occupied Syria with no intention to leave

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson presented remarks on The Way Forward for the United States Regarding Syria to the Hoover Institute at Stanford on January 17.

To start, Tillerson proved his mettle in lying for the U.S. Empire by blaming Syrian president Bashar al-Assad for the rise of ISIS. First Tillerson implied Assad had the nerve to fight a war and win and then he says that’s why ISIS moved in:

In December of 2016, the key city of Aleppo fell to the regime after a brutal campaign that essentially destroyed that city, which had a population over two million people before the war. This symbolized the regime’s ruthless determination to regain momentum in the conflict. It also led to – Assad to wrongly think that he would maintain power without addressing the Syrian regime’s – the Syrian people’s legitimate grievances.”

The civil war in Syria was horrific in and of itself. But Syria was thrown into an even greater state of turmoil with the emergence of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.>>>

"Following our commitments under the Chemical Weapons Convention, Russia has eliminated its entire chemical warfare agents arsenal early, while the United States, using false pretexts, has at first halted and then completely stopped fulfilling its commitments due to a 'lack of financing,' still keeping around 10 percent of its arsenal in a combat ready condition," the ministry added

Donald Trump’s First Year and the Illusion of Choice

The striking thing about Trump’s first twelve months compared to the Obama administration is not how different his foreign policies have been, but how similar.

January 20 marks one year since Donald Trump officially became the 45th President of the United States. His supporters, boosted by comments the Donald made on the campaign trail, hoped his Presidency would mark a shift away from a neocon/liberal interventionist foreign policy. In fact we’ve just had more of the same.

The old French saying ‘plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose (the more things change the more they stay the same)’ springs readily to mind. As indeed does the late George Carlin’s comment about Americans only having the “illusion of choice” on the things that really matter.

GOP CANDIDATE FOR PENNSYLVANIA SPECIAL ELECTION IS A FORMER ABU GHRAIB INTERROGATION CONSULTANT

RICK SACCONE, THE GOP nominee in Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district, is a former intelligence support consultant for the U.S. Army at the infamous Abu Ghraib prison. He has written extensively in support of interrogation tactics widely condemned by human rights experts as torture.

Over the years, drawing upon his experience in Iraq, Saccone has promoted waterboarding, stress positions, sleep deprivation, as well as threatening prisoners with execution, dogs, and electrocution, as necessary tactics for obtaining information from detainees.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump appeared in North Fayette Township in Pennsylvania to promote Saccone’s candidacy. Despite the district going to Trump by some 20 points in November, the GOP is at risk of losing it to Democrat Conor Lamb.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a Jean-Luc Picard double face-palm, at warp speed, upon reading this.

Holy Heironymous Bosch, Pennsyvania GOP, could you do NO BETTER than selecting a candidate who obviously enjoyed torturing prisoners of war at Abu Ghraib so much, that he still briskly advocates these practices today?!?

Who the hell were the deaf, dumb, and blind people on your selection committee who thought this guy was THE perfectly best choice for the job, and that no other candidate could possibly be as great for the job as this guy?!?

It has been proven, by mountains of scientific evidence, that torture rarely produces actionable intelligence; it simply gets the tortured individual to say what he thinks his torturers want him to say to get the torture to stop.

There was a German interrogator, during World War Two, whose name was Hans Scharff, and he had a brilliant record of extracting information from American and British prisoners without ever once using violence.

Hans Scharff

In fact, after the war, the US military so respected his tactics that he was invited to teach seminars in interrogation to American, using his techniques.

Sure as hell looks like US foreign policy has moved from that kind of treatment of Prisoners of War to something just to the right of Atilla the Hun: and Saccone was complicit in this at Abu Ghraib, completely violating the Geneva Accords, to which the US government is a signatory!!

To the Republicans in Pennsylvania who got this guy nominated, congratulations; because of what this man has done, and what people now know about him, you have probably just thrown this election to his Democratic opponent.

Dying North Koreans a sign US diplomatic strategy works, Tillerson says (*without so much as a flinch)

Signs of starvation and death in North Korea indicate that US diplomatic strategy works fine, says the secretary of state. The objective now is not to let Pyongyang evoke sympathy around the world for its sanctions-induced woes.

The unexpectedly-revealing description of what Rex Tillerson apparently considers successful diplomacy came from his own mouth on Wednesday as he was speaking at Stanford University with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

“The Japanese… have had over a 100 North Korean fishing boats that have drifted into Japanese waters. Two-thirds of the people on those boats have died,” Tillerson said, citing the Japanese delegation that attended a conference in Vancouver, Canada, earlier this week.

Also in the candidates’ graveyard is Jeff Mateer, who in 2015 stated that transgender children are part of “Satan’s plan.” Mateer also prophesied that same-sex marriage would lead to bestiality and lamented the banning by some states of harmful and bogus “conversion therapies” for gay and lesbian persons.

Who Are the Leading State Sponsors of Terrorism?

The reality is that terrorism, defined by the United Nations as “criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public,” is most employed at the state level by the United States and its allies Israel and Saudi Arabia, not by Iran. All have used violence directed against civilians in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon, and all three have supported organizations that fit the definition of terrorists. Iran may indeed be guilty of actions that much of the world disapproves of, but it is not the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism as has been alleged.

US Prepares for Forcible Entry Operations in Remote Theaters of War

The facts and events summed up above are not front-page stories. They don’t tell much separately but tell a lot when put together and systematized. They lead to believe the United States is urgently preparing for a truly big war waged far away from its borders. The US military is sized, organized, and globally postured to fight it. A doctrine of expanding forces is not as straightforward as producing more fighters and weapon systems. Nothing is possible without logistics. That’s what is given the highest priority as the preparations are intensified.

President Trump has maintained or expanded the wars that he inherited from his predecessor.

As Jennifer Wilson and I pointed out in an appropriately titled column in August, “Donald Trump Is Dropping Bombs at Unprecedented Levels.” Within eight months of assuming office, Trump — with the announcement of six “precision aistrikes” in Libya — had bombed every country that former President Barack Obama had in eight years. One month after that, the United States surpassed the 26,172 bombs that had been dropped in 2016. Through the end of December 2017, Trump had authorized more airstrikes in Somalia in one year (33), than George W. Bush and Obama had since the United States first began intervening there in early 2007 (30).

US, Israel sign pact to counter ‘Iranian threat’ – White House official

On Thursday, Israeli Channel 10 reported that Washington and Tel Aviv signed a strategy and policy document on Tehran, following discussions between Israeli and US intelligence and defense agencies on December 12. The talks were said to have been headed by the US national security adviser, H. R. McMaster and his Israeli counterpart Meir Ben-Shabbat.

Channel 10 reported that the document is designed to translate into “steps on the ground” the ideas laid out by US President Donald Trump in his October 13 speech on Iran, in which he all but ditched the Obama-negotiated Iranian nuclear deal, according to unnamed sources. Trump stopped short of breaching the accord, but “decertified” his support for the agreement, leaving its fate in the hands of Congress.

Specifically, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and president Trump agreed behind closed doors to set up joint teams to handle what they both believe amounts to an ‘Iranian threat.’

Four separate teams would be reportedly be set up to curtail Iranian power. The first would deal with “Iranian activity in Syria and Tehran’s support for the Hezbollah terror organization.” Another division will oversee “diplomatic and intelligence activities” aimed to confront Iran’s nuclear weapon “ambitions.”

The intelligence minister added: “If the people succeed in achieving freedom and democracy, many of the threats on Israel and the entire region today will disappear.”

Katz also said that Iran’s “murderous regime” will eventually cease to exist. “The chief of staff of the Iranian army said the State of Israel will not exist in 25 years, I say to him – the State of Israel will exist forever, but you and your colleagues in the murderous regime will disappear long before”>>>

Mattis Should Come Clean – US Never Fought a Real War on Terror

War-party Washington’s war on Iraq and Syria on the pretext of fighting terror is far from over – at least that’s according to Defense Secretary James Mattis.

Apparently, declarations of victory over ISIL by both Iraq and Syria, along with Iran and Russia, are not having an impact on US military policy in the region, according to Mattis, who insists that “the war is not over.” Which isn’t to say that the US is determined to keep fighting a war against ISIL, as such, but rather that there’s definitely going to be a war against somebody in those countries – and that somebody could be anybody. Mattis in particular has been keen to talk up the idea of an “ISIL 2.0” emerging in areas ISIL has been expelled from.

Mattis’ comments are very interesting in the context of other Pentagon statements, which have insisted that US troops would stay in Iraq and Syria long after the ISIL war has ended. This had long been assumed to be just a quiet, permanent garrisoning of the two countries, particularly controversial in Syria since they openly don’t welcome a US military presence.

Instead, Mattis seems to be presenting this as not just an open-ended deployment, but an open-ended war against an ever-changing collection of enemies. In Syria in particular, this is likely to mean a shift away from the terror proxies (created and backed up by the US allies!) toward pro-government forces and their Iranian-Russian allies. In Iraq, however, the continuation of the war is likely to be very much like the last US occupation of Iraq, fighting with any and all forces that are aligned in opposition to Washington’s occupying regime itself.

And the faulty justifications for the occupation, however, are far from blurred:

- The Iraqi Parliament is on record as being against the US-led military occupation of their country. Moreover, most Iraqis resent Americans occupying their country and the Trump administration’s requests to do it forever by maintaining illegal military bases in their country.
