The Real Saboteurs of a Trump Foreign Policy

The real danger may be that a new Trump foreign policy could be hijacked or scuttled by anti-Trump Republicans, not only on Capitol Hill but inside the executive branch itself.

Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer sees Russian hacking as a way to put a cloud over the administration before it begins. But it is the uber-hawks hereabouts who are after the really big game.

If the War Party can convert this “fake story” into the real story of 2016, then they can scuttle any Trump effort to attain the rapprochement with Russia that Trump promised to try to achieve.

Muslim cleric Gulen denies involvement in Russian ambassador's murder

US-based Turkish Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen has denied his involvement in the assassination of Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, Associated Press reported citing Gulen’s video address. In the video address, Gulen accused Turkey’s government of defaming his movement. Gulen said "it is not possible for them to convince the world of such accusations." On Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that according to the investigators, Fethullah Gulen was involved in the assassination of the Russian embassador as the killer had links to his movement.

Russian ambassador's assassin 'guarded Recep Tayyip Erdogan'

The Turkish policeman who murdered Russia’s ambassador to Ankara provided security to Turkey's president multiple times in the run up to Monday's assassination, it has bean claimed.

Mevlut Mert Altintas, 22, served on police details backing up Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s personal body guards eight times since the failed military coup that rocked Turkey in July, Abdülkadir Selvi, a columnist known for his close ties to the government, wrote in Hurriyet on Wednesday.

Alintas, who served on an elite Ankara riot unit for two and a half years, was part of the second tier of security at those events.

Jaish al-Fatah claims responsibility for murder of Russian ambassador

The Jaish al-Fatah armed coalition, which includes the Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham extremist group (formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, outlawed in Russia), has claimed responsibility for the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, the Al-Youm Al-Sabea newspaper reported in its online version on Wednesday. The tragedy occurred during the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition devoted to Russia in the Center for Contemporary Art in Turkey’s capital Ankara on Monday evening. Three Turkish nationals were wounded and the attacker, a 22-year-old former police officer, was killed by local security forces.

Turkish police arrest 13 suspects tied to Russian ambassador’s murder

The number of suspects linked to the murder of Russia’s ambassador has risen to 13, Turkey’s TV Channel Haber 7 reported on Wednesday. Six suspects have been arrested in the Aidyn province where the assailant, Mevlut Mert Altyntash, was born. Among those arrested were his father, mother, sister and other relatives. Another six suspects were detained in Izmir. In addition, an attorney who owns an apartment, where the assassin had resided for a short period of time, has also been arrested, the TV channel reported. Those in custody have been taken to the security department for interrogation. Police will transfer the other suspects to Ankara a bit later.

Turkish government orders media BLACKOUT on Russian ambassador assassination as it attempts to link shooting to the same movement it blamed for a failed coup in July

Turkey's authoritarian government today imposed a temporary blackout on media coverage of the Russian ambassador's shooting.

The order temporarily bans news reports, images and commentary other than those made by the official authorities. This affects all coverage distributed inside Turkey.

However, government backed outlets still appear to be publishing versions of the assassination of Andrei Karlov, 62, that unfolded in Ankara on Monday night.

The pro-government daily newspaper Daily Sabah, often labelled as a mouthpiece for Turkish President Erdogan, claims the 22-year-old riot police officer who shot ambassador Andrei Karlov had links to the Gülen movement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is so the people of Turkey do not hear that Al Nusra is claiming responsibility for the assassination.

Al-Nusra’s hand in Ambassador’s murder spells trouble for US

Today, however, Al-Nusra, the Al-Qaeda branch of terrorists who had occupied much of East Aleppo until its recent liberation, have now claimed responsibility for the attack. Terrorist organisations frequently claim responsibility for acts they wish they had committed in addition to those which they actually execute. This could be the case with Al-Nusra, but if the statement is true, the implications are far reaching.

Since the Battle of Aleppo commenced, the US State Department employed every deceptive trick in the book in order to shelter Al-Nusra from violence. Up until the victory for Syria in the Battle of Aleppo, the US pinned its hopes of regime change on an Al-Nusra victory.

West Directed Killer’s Hand in Assassination of Russian Ambassador

Virtually everything that Western official sources have been saying about Aleppo, and the Syrian war more generally, is seen to be a grotesque lie.

The climax of condemnation reached unconscionable heights last week when Washington, its Western allies and the UN – all amplified unquestioningly by the Western news media – vilified Russia for allegedly slaughtering civilians in east Aleppo. American ambassador Samantha Power specifically cited unverified reports of children being killed in a basement by Syria and Russian forces.

TurkStream agreement approved by Russia

In a press release issued on the cabinet's website, Russia announced that it has approved a draft legislation that will allow Russia to ratify its agreement with Turkey on the TurkStream natural gas pipeline project.

The news release, which was released by the official website of the Russian government, stated: "the government decided at a meeting on Thursday to approve the draft federal law on ratification of the agreement between Russia and Turkey on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline project and to send the document to the State Duma [the lower house of Russia's parliament]."

Russia’s TurkStream ratification follows Turkey’s ratification of a bill for the same project on 2 December, which was signed into law by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to the Daily Sabah, Turkish and Russian officials signed an intergovernmental agreement in October. Parliament and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later approved the agreement in November.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is going to make the US government very angry, and for the following reasons:

Gazprom will be in control of this project, meaning that the natural gas flowing through the pipeline will be sold in rubles, and not in dollars; the route of the pipeline completely bypasses Ukraine, which will mean that there will be no revenue for it whatsoever; and the pipeline will be another source of gas for Southern Europe.

The rival pipeline, known as the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (or TAP, for short) is supposed to pipe in oil from Azerbaijan to the coast of Italy. However, this project is in trouble, due to the outcome of Italy's referendum. as reported at oilprice.com yesterday:

The TAP Consortium has awarded Italian companies a contract for engineering and construction work for the onshore/offshore sections of the pipeline in Italy and for the pipeline-receiving terminal to connect TAP to the Italian Snam-Rete-Gas’s pipeline network. The construction of the pipeline in Greece and Albania had been already launched (EDM, June 16). The process was going smoothly, until TAP faced strong defiance from the local authorities of Italy’s Puglia region on the basis of environmental concerns. The opposition to the project came despite the fact that the Italian minister of environment had already signed the necessary decree of environmental compatibility of the project—following an extensive environmental impact study—and Italy’s ministry of economy had granted the single authorisation permit for the pipeline in 2015 (Tap-ag.com). However, under Italy’s constitution, the regional governments have a veto power over land use and prospective energy infrastructure. The national government under Matteo Renzi has strongly supported TAP. However, Michele Emiliano, the governor of Puglia, voiced opposition to the planned pipeline path along Melendugno, by accusing the government of implementing the project without the region’s consent. Emiliano demanded moving the construction to Puglia’s port city of Brindisi, where there is an available connection to the Snam’s national gas grid.

A few initial short thoughts on the murder of the Russian Ambassador to Ankara

Okay, so tonight we have the name of the assassin, it is Mevlut Mert Aydintas, a 22 year old policeman who had been recently fired following the anti-Gulenist crackdown of Erdogan against the forces which had attempted to overthrow him recently.

When such an event occurs it is also important to ask cui bono – whom does it benefit?

Alas, both the Turks and the Russians have a long tradition of secrecy and we might never find out who, if anybody, really was behind Mevlut Mert Aydintas.

Turkish Pro-Government Media Blames US, CIA For Assassination Of Russian Ambassador

Following yesterday's Ankara tragedy in which a 22-year-old Turkish off-duty police officers assassinated the Russian ambassador, Turkey found itself in a scapegoat vacuum, having nobody to blame: after all, following this summer's failed "coup", Erdogan allegedly purged all forces who were hostile to his administration, which would suggest the police officer was one of "Erdogan's people." That however quickly changed when this morning Turkey's pro-government media outlets and journalists promptly cast the blame for the cold-blooded murder on the US, and the faith-based Gulen movement whose cleric Fetullah Gulen has been granted refuge in rural Pennsylvania, for the murder of the Russian ambassador to Turkey by a police officer on Monday evening.

Prelude to War? Ambassador Assassinated Monday; Terrorist Strikes Germany! (Video)

The Russian ambassador to Turkey was last night shot dead by an off-duty Turkish police officer at an art gallery in Ankara in 'revenge' for the conflict in Syria.

Ambassador Andrei Karlov, 62, was shot several times from behind by a gunman shouting: 'Allahu Akbar (God is Great). We die in Aleppo, you die here!' He also screamed: 'Only death will take me out of here.'

The shooter, who was wearing a suit and tie, has been identified as Mevlüt Mert Altintas, 22, a member of Ankara's police riot squad. He reportedly fired into the air before taking aim at the ambassador.

He then turned weapon on others in the gallery - injuring three - before he was shot dead in a 15-minute stand-off with police. There has been some suggestion that Altintas was linked to Turkey's failed coup in July.

Motives Behind The Assassination Of Russian Ambassador To Turkey

In order to identify the likely motives of the 22 years old Turkish police officer who assassinated the Russian ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, we must keep in mind the backdrop that the Turkish and Iranian foreign ministers are en route to Russia to find a solution to the five years old Syrian conflict for the first time without the participation of the US.

The killer was shot dead after a 15-minute standoff with police.

A video of the horrific attack shows Altintas, dressed in a suit and tie, pacing the gallery while brandishing a gun in one hand.

Meanwhile the US Security Department reported an 'ongoing security incident' outside the US Embassy in Ankara, near to the gallery where Mr Karlov was shot.

Turkey builds 89 new military outposts on Syria, Iraq border

Turkey has built 89 new military outposts on its Syria and Iraq borders as part of efforts to strengthen the country's border security.

According to security sources, Turkey already completed the construction of a 287-kilometer (178-mile) concrete wall along the border with Syria. The wall will maintain security across the Turkish border. Construction efforts of the remaining 538 kilometers of the concrete wall are ongoing.

Turkey shares a 900-kilometer border with Syria, which has been embroiled in a civil war since 2011, and so far 66 new military outposts on the Turkey-Syria border have been constructed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

TERROR IN TURKEY At least 38 killed including 30 police officers by two bombs in ‘inhuman terror attack’ at Besiktas football stadium in Istanbul

A TWIN bomb attack outside a football stadium in Istanbul has killed 38 people – including 30 police officers.

Kurdish militants have claimed responsibility for the “inhuman” terror attack which wounded 160 others hours after the end of a match between two top teams at the Vodafone Arena on Saturday night.

The two bombs, a car packed with 300kg of explosives and a suicide bomb, struck at about 10.30pm in the Be?ikta? neighbourhood in the Turkish city.

At least 13 people have been arrested over the twin bombing which was carried out by militant group TAK, also known as the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons.

TAK, an offshoot of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), was also behind a deadly car bomb that claimed 11 lives in southeastern city Diyarbak?r last month.

Turkey’s deputy prime minister, Numan Kurtulmu?, said Saturday’s attack was “clearly planned”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am very sorry for all those who died, or were wounded in this savage attack, and their families and friends.

But IF, in fact, this offshoot of the PKK actually did this, they did it with the sure and certain knowledge that they have set the stage for a complete ethnic cleansing ,and genocide against, the Kurdish population in Turkey, which makes me doubt that they were, in fact, to blame.

They had to know what the consequences of what such an act would be; how could they do this, when they knew that Erdogan's response will be the most total annihilation of the Kurdish population in Turkey possible?!?

Something here just doesn't make sense at all.

Home About Antiwar.com Donate Blog US Casualties Contact Latest NewsNo Evidence, But Pentagon Tries to Convince Turkey Iran Killed Their Troops

A late November attack on Turkish soldiers in northern Syria, which killed four troops, was initially and falsely blamed on a Syrian airstrike by Turkish officials. Turkey met with Russia over the matter, who confirmed that this wasn’t the case, and indeed that the indication was that the attack wasn’t an airstrike at all, but an ISIS suicide bombing.

ISIS was quick to take credit for the bombing the day it happened, so it wasn’t clear why Turkey needed a solid week to concede that their initial claim of an airstrike was wrong. The Pentagon, however, is trying to sell Turkey on the idea that everyone is wrong and Iran attacked them for no apparent reason.

Unnamed Pentagon officials quoted in the Turkish press offered no evidence of Iranian involvement, but noted that the site of the attack, which again apparently was an ISIS suicide attack, was sort of close to some places where Shi’ite militias are located, and since Iran is a Shi’ite state “it might be Iran.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was readily apparent during the campaign, when, on the one hand, Donald Trump told us we were lied into the Iraq war, that NATO is “obsolete,” and that we have no business supporting regime change in Syria – and, on the other hand, he declared that he would crush ISIS, that it was a mistake to leave Iraq, and that we have to “rebuild our military,” as if we don’t already spend as much as the top ten defense spenders.

WHY TURKEY IS SEEKING CLOSE COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA IN SYRIA?

The sudden thaw in Turkey’s relations with Russia and latent hostility towards America is partly due to the fact that Erdogan holds the US-based preacher, Fethullah Gulen, responsible for the July coup plot and suspects that the latter had received tacit support from certain quarters in the US; but more importantly Turkey also feels betrayed by the duplicitous American policy in Syria and Iraq, and that’s why it is now seeking closer cooperation with Russia in the region. In order to elaborate American duplicity in Syria, let us settle on one issue first: there were two parties to the Syrian civil war initially, the Syrian regime and the Syrian opposition; which party did the US support since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in August 2011 to June 2014, when the Islamic State overran Mosul in Iraq?

While investors are focused on Italy, Bloomberg's Mark Cudmore warns that another Mediterranean country is poised to grab their attention very soon. A currency crisis in Turkey is rapidly deteriorating, setting the stage for dramatic and unscheduled central bank action.

The lira has weakened by more than 11% in the last six weeks against an equally weighted dollar-euro basket. This devaluation is exacerbating the situation rather than providing a relief valve.

MAJOR FOREIGN POLICY SHIFT: TURKEY ABANDONING EU FOR SCO

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on November 20 that Turkey did not need to join the European Union «at all costs». Instead, it could become part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), or Shanghai Pact. The Turkish leader said he had already discussed the idea with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The SCO is a Eurasian political, economic, and military organization founded in 2001 in Shanghai. Its members are Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan speak Turkic languages.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Economically and geopolitically, for a lot of reasons, it makes far more sense for Turkey to joint the SCO than the EU; Erdogan has called this correctly.

Erdogan Demands Turks Exchange Their Dollars To Gold, Lira

Early this morning, in yet another session of panicked selling, the Turkish Lira crashed to new record lows to just shy of USDTRY 3.60, momentarily going bidless as the currency plunged nearly 400 pips in seconds, after Turkish President Recep Erdogan said the path for investors will be opened with lower interest rates, and urged the central bank to imitate Japan and U.S. where rates are low: “why should we go around with 14-15 percent?”

The answer is simple: the currency tends to drop when an economy is seen as weak, the political regime unstable, or - yes - a central bank cuts rates, which Turkey, as shown in the chart below, can not afford if it hopes to maintain a stable economy with the lira already at all time lows.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The question is, how can Erdogan actually FORCE the Turkish people to do this, save for some Executive Decree, under the still existing "Emergency Powers" he possesses, and if he does that, how will he get the Turkish people to comply?!?

House to House raids by the Turkish military?!?

Oh, THAT's just going to be SOOOOO appealing to the Turkish people!!

Turkey ratifies Turkish Stream gas pipeline project. Ukraine starts counting losses

The intergovernmental agreement with Russia on the construction of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline was ratified in the Turkish Parliament. As many as 210 out of 223 parliamentarians voted for the decision, Milliyet wrote. Seven MPs voted against it; six others abstained. Russia and Turkey officially signed the agreement about the Turkish Stream on October 10... Naftogaz of Ukraine has refused to implement the costly project to reconstruct infrastructure objects. The contract was originally evaluated at $155 million. The company found the investment inappropriate after Moscow and Ankara came to an agreement to build the Turkish Stream gas pipeline. The money was supposed to be used to reconstruct the stations involved in the transportation of Russian natural gas to Turkey.

THE BATTLE FOR ALEPPO IS OVER, NOW THE REAL WAR HAS BEGUN

THE RESPONSES TO ALEPPO

Within hours of the news that the Sunni militant resistance in eastern Aleppo collapsed, the U.S. House passed House Bill 5732, authorizing an investigation into creating a No-Fly-Zone over Syria.

In other words, the U.S. House is looking for ways to start a hot war in Syria with Russia. This may just be more impotent sabre rattling by a fading group of back-bencher neoconservatives – think Lindsay Graham and John McCain– but it is something that bears witness all the same.

The goal of a No-Fly Zone is to implement the ‘Plan B’ strategy to break Syria up into two separate countries. Then they can create some form of Greater Kurdistan across parts of Syria, Iraq, Iran and eastern Turkey.

Russia’s deployment of S-300 and S-400 missile defense systems around Syria and delivering them as well to Iran is an important counter-move to this plan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember that we have mentioned, on this site, the possibility of an outgoing Obama administration "gifting" President-elect Trump with one, if not two wars, before he has had the opportunity to take the Oath of Office?!?

The time between now, and 20 January, when Trump does take the Oath of Office, is one of the most critically dangerous times in the history of this country.

I mention this because this is the time frame when the execution of a false flag operation, to get the US into a shooting war with Russia, may well take place, courtesy of many elements, inside and outside the US government.

Putin confirms Russia had nothing to do with attack on Turkish forces — Erdogan

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin he received a confirmation Russia had nothing to do with the recent attack on Turkish forces in Syria. The daily Turkiye reports Erdogan was speaking at a working breakfast with parliament members. "Over the past week we’ve had three conversations with Mr. Putin. He said that Russia had nothing to do whatsoever with the attack on the Turkish forces," Erdogan said, adding that in his opinion "the attack was staged by the forces of the regime," in other words, the Syrian army. "Also, we discussed efforts by our countries to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria. I asked Mr. Putin about attacks on schools and hospitals in Aleppo. I asked him who dealt the strike and he replied it was not Russia. We did not mount such attacks, either, so I asked who did that," the daily quotes Erdogan as saying.

Did Turkey Just Declare War On Syria?

By Brandon Turbeville

On Tuesday, ISIS supporter Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a speech that many have interpreted as a declaration of war on Syria. During a typical Erdogan rant, the Turkish Prime Minister stated, “Close to one million people died in Syria, and they continue dying. Where is the U.N.? What are they doing? We kept saying ‘patience, patience, patience’ but could not take it any more and entered Syria. We are there to bring justice. We are there to end the rule of the cruel Assad, who has been spreading state terror.”

This last sentence is the point of contention. After all, the original stated purpose of “Operation Euphrates” was to beat back ISIS, not to defeat Assad...

Operation in Syria only targets terror, Erdo?an clarifies

Turkey’s military operation in Syria is not against any country or person but terror groups in general, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said, in contrast to earlier remarks that Turkey’s objective was to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad following.

“The aim of the Euphrates Shield Operation is no country or person but only terror organizations. No one should doubt this issue that we have uttered over and over, and no one should comment on it in another fashion or try to [misrepresent its meaning],” Erdo?an said at a 30th gathering with village chiefs at the Presidential Palace in Ankara on Dec. 1.

On Nov. 29, Erdo?an sought to explain the reason for Ankara’s military offensive into Syria, saying: “We entered there to end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad who terrorizes with state terror. [We didn’t enter] for any other reason.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Erdogan just blinked.

And possibly, the wisdom of thinking about the impact of what he says before words come out of his mouth, has just occurred to him, in a blinding vision of light.

Turkey's military actions here are about preventing the formation of an independent Kurdistan on the Turkish/Syrian border.

Kremlin asks Turkey to explain Erdogan's remark about toppling Assad

The Kremlin said on Wednesday that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's statement that his forces in Syria were there to topple President Bashar al-Assad had come as a surprise to Moscow and that it expected an explanation from Ankara.

In a speech on Tuesday, Erdogan condemned what he said was the failure of the United Nations in Syria and cast Turkey's incursion in August, when it sent tanks, fighter jets and special forces over the border, as an act of exasperation.

"We are there to bring justice. We are there to end the rule of the cruel Assad, who has been spreading state terror," Erdogan said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Erdogan may have just been mouthing off. He has to know that any promised support by the US against Russia might well vanish when Trump takes office.

"The announcement really came as news to us," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call.

"It is a very serious statement and one which differs from previous ones and with our understanding of the situation. We hope that our Turkish partners will provide us with some kind of explanation about this."

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's encouraging that Reuters felt they finally had to cover this, but were 24 hours late on the story, compared to the independent media:

Erdogan: Turkey Entered Syria to ‘End the Rule of the Tyrant Assad’

Official: Turkey Indirectly Fighting against Syria

A Syrian official underlined that Ankara is technically at war with Damascus given its lack of coordination with the Syrian army in al-Bab city Northeast of Aleppo province. "Considering its campaign against the terrorist groups in Aleppo, the Syrian army is fighting against Turkey indirectly" as the latter is in on the opposite side and helping the terrorists in the same region, Samir Sulayman, a high-ranking official at Syria's defense ministry, said. He explained that since the Syrian army is fighting against the terrorists in different parts of the country, specially Aleppo, it has indirectly entered a battle against Turkey because the terrorist groups are enjoying Ankara's arms support and consultations. Sources close to the Syrian dissidents disclosed last week that the Turkish army has deployed anti-aircraft 'Stinger' missile system to the regions near al-Bab city Northeast of Aleppo province.

Turkey entered Syria to end al-Assad’s rule: President Erdo?an

The Turkish military launched its operations in Syria to end the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said Nov. 29.

“In my estimation, nearly 1 million people have died in Syria. These deaths are still continuing without exception for children, women and men. Where is the United Nations? What is it doing? Is it in Iraq? No. We preached patience but could not endure in the end and had to enter Syria together with the Free Syrian Army [FSA],” Erdo?an said at the first Inter-Parliamentary Jerusalem Platform Symposium in Istanbul.

“Why did we enter? We do not have an eye on Syrian soil. The issue is to provide lands to their real owners. That is to say we are there for the establishment of justice. We entered there to end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad who terrorizes with state terror. [We didn’t enter] for any other reason,” the president said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I nearly fell out of my chair, upon reading this, and thought, "Is this some horrific mistranslation?!? Has this guy utterly lost his reality licence?!?

But I googled the headline, and this came up in over 5 different times, in 5 different, credible resources, and yes, the headline is absolutely correct; Turkey has just declared war on the government of Syria.

There is however, a slightly different "spin" on this, courtesy of Russia Today (rt.com) In its coverage it added the following caveat: "However, many observers have said that Ankara aims to suppress Kurdish forces in Syria and prevent them from connecting three de facto autonomous Kurdish areas into one enclave south of the Turkish border."

Putin will not let a decap strike against Al-Assad happen.

So what's Erdogan's plan to avoid military conflict with the Russians, if regime change in Damascus is really his goal here?!?

Has President Obama, and NATO's Secretary General Stoltenberg given Erdogan some kind of covert promises to come in and assist, if the going gets rough against the Russian military (which it will)?!?

IF the answer to that question is in the affirmative, then the US government is on it's way to war with Russia and World War III even before Donald Trump gets to take the Oath of Office.

And what are the corporate presstitutes saying about this right now?!?

Absoflippinglutely NOTHING; zero, nada, zip.

Turkey Tries to Mark Territory in Syria, Suffers a Harsh Rebuke

The Russian President Vladimir Putin found himself in an altogether new role on Friday when his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan phoned him to lodge a complaint about Syrian military. Putin probably expected the phone call since an air attack on a Turkish contingent on November 24 in northern Syria had killed 3 Turkish soldiers and injured ten others. Turkey feels outraged, but is unsure whether it was a solo Syrian attack or a quasi-Syrian show. An intriguing detail here is that November 24 also happened to be the first anniversary of the downing of a Russian jet by Turkey, killing the pilot. A strange coincidence, indeed. But the Russian military maintained that the attack was not carried out by them. The Turks apparently know that the jets took off from a base which is under Russian control. Erdogan, conceivably, would prefer to accept the Russian version...

De Facto NATO “Invasion” of Syria? US, Turkey Military Operations in Syria Are Intervention

Turkish forces, backed by US-led coalition aircraft, began a military operation dubbed Euphrates Shield to clear the Syrian border town of Jarabulus and the surrounding area of the Daesh, outlawed in Russia and many other countries. As Jarabulus was retaken, the joint forces of Ankara, the coalition and Syrian rebels continued the offensive southwest.

“There is no coordination between us on the one side and Turkey and the United States on the other… We believe that the actions of these two countries in northern Syria are interference in our internal affairs, aggression and intervention,” Brig. Gen. Samir Suleiman, Head of the Media Affairs of the Syrian Army’s Political Office, said.

Turkey's Erdogan escalates war of words with European Union

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned the European Union Saturday that Turkey could extend by at least another three months a state of emergency that has been in place since the failed July coup. In a public address in Istanbul, Erdogan launched another attack on the EU just days after the European Parliament voted to back a freeze in accession talks with Ankara.

"Maybe the state of emergency will be extended by three months and then maybe another three months," Erdogan said. "This is a decision for the government and the parliament." He also threatened to restore capital punishment, a decision that would effectively end Ankara's longstanding bid. And he added that he would listen to Turkish citizens rather than people named "Hans" and "George," picking two common European first names.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Right now, the hard truth is that Turkey and Europe need each other, particularly because of the immigration deal Europe still so desperately needs to ease the flow of immigration to their respective countries.

Erdogan has shown his proclivities for dictatorship, post-failed coup, and that may work for a while, if the Turkish people actually think he and his government can keep them safe; however, if this proves to not be true, you may well see gigantic demonstrations against him, and a snap election - allowed under the Turkish Constitution - through which to replace him.

Turkey’s “Unofficial” Invasion: Syrian Airforce Responds by Targeting Turkish Ground Forces in Northern Aleppo

Last night, the Syrian Air Force delivered air strikes on the Turkish Armed Forces near the ISIS controlled town of al-Bab in northern Syria, according to local sources in the Aleppo province.

The Turkish military confirmed that three Turkish soldiers and 10 others wounded (one of them seriously)were as result of an air strikes thought to be carried by the Syrian military. The wounded soldiers were taken to the hospital in the Turkish province of Gaziantep, bordering Syria.

Ankara added that the attack occurred at around 3:30 am (0030 GMT) in the course of the Turkish-led military operation (code-named Operation Euphrates Shield) in the area of al-Bab.

At the same, non-official Turkish and Syrian sources said that the attack resulted in killing over 5 Turkish soldiers and wounding of 16 others.
Meanwhile, intense fighting is ongoing between Turkey-led forces and Kurdish YPG forces in the province of Aleppo.
