Duterte’s gambit: Why Americans should thank the hot-headed leader of the Philippines

Written by
Lyle J. Goldstein

With the world’s focus on the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s easy to see how the recent shocking news from Manila might have been missed. During any normal news cycle, however, the announcement by the government of the Philippines that it had served official notice to Washington that it was terminating the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), would amount to a geopolitical tsunami. That agreement represents the bedrock of this long-term bilateral alliance, as it provides the legal framework governing all U.S.-Philippines military cooperation. According to one senior U.S. State Department official quoted in a recent New York Times article, that cooperation has “allowed for about 300 joint exercises annually between the American and Philippine militaries,” but those operations are now “at risk.”

White House Justifies Killing Soleimani for Past Actions, not Imminent Threats

Trump can't get his reasons straight for murdering the General. He can't tell the truth about the casualties. He violated US law and International law by murdering Soleimani after luring him to Baghdad. Trump is nothing but a zionist/neocon minion! Here is the law if anyone cares to read it.

https://corpuslegalis.com/us/code/title18/murder-or-manslaughter-of-fo...

The White House released a memo on Friday to Congress justifying the assassination of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. Despite earlier claims from the administration of Soleimani and his Quds Force planning imminent attacks on US personnel in the region, the memo uses past actions as the justification for the killing.

US Patrol Turned Back at Syrian Army Checkpoint. US Officer: “We Are Here to Bring Peace Just Like the Russians”

More footage from the February 12 standoff between a US patrol and Syrian villagers and soldiers in the village of Khirbet Amo in northeastern Syria. The standoff eventually resulted in

American reinforcements arriving in 5 additional vehicles,
the Russians arriving on the scene to try to calm things down,
a molotov cocktail being thrown at one of the American vehicles,
the Americans killing one of the villagers,
the Syrians opening rifle fire on armored US vehicles,
F-16s circling overhead, firing flares from a low altitude,
and the Americans in the end nonetheless retreating and going back to base.

The exchange between the US commander and a Syrian officer through an Iraqi translator the Americans have with them:

– “We Are Here to Bring Peace Just Like the Russians”

– “Wherever the US goes it brings death and destruction, you are not welcome here.”

The Metal Trump Wants More Than Gold

Global dominance at this point in the game means control of the rare earths elements that form the backbone of existing technology and the future of technology, and while everyone is busy playing at war with oil and gas, Beijing is busy sitting on a monopoly of our most precious strategic metals.

There are 16 metals in total that form the world’s strategically critical rare-earth elements--and China controls the supply of every single one because it controls 96% of production.

One of these crucial metals is Cesium.

It’s worth up to twice the price of gold, ounce for ounce, there are only three producing mines in the world, and all of them are controlled by China.

Understanding why they lie and why they get away with it

Is there really anybody out there who will deny that the US government lies pretty much about everything and anything?. And it’s not just the Executive Branch, Congress lies possibly even more (both parties, of course). In fact, I would argue that lying is both necessary AND expected from any US politician. When somebody like Tulsi Gabbard or Ron Paul don’t abide by this rule, the media immediately dismisses them as “Putin agents” or something equally insipid.

The truth is that lies have become the norm of the western political discourse.

That is bad enough by itself. But there is worse.

The worst is not that western politicians lie, the worst is that almost nobody cares.

That is really scary.

Why?

The Suicidal Empire

There are a lot of behaviors being exhibited by those in positions of power in the US that seem disparate and odd. We watch Trump who is imposing sanctions on country after country, dreaming of eradicating his country’s structural trade deficit with the rest of the world. We watch pretty much all of US Congress falling over each other in their attempt to impose the harshest possible sanctions on Russia. People in Turkey, a key NATO country, are literally burning US dollars and smashing iPhones in a fit of pique. Confronted with a new suite of Russian and Chinese weapons systems that largely neutralize the ability of the US to dominate the world militarily, the US is setting new records in the size of its already outrageously bloated yet manifestly ineffectual defense spending.

Young man killed in US-Syrian skirmish, further escalation stopped ‘only’ due to Russian mediation – Russian MOD

A 22-year-old Syrian was killed while another man was injured during an altercation between US troops and locals in northern Syria, the Russian military said. The showdown happened after a US convoy diverged from its patrol route.

Editor’s note: This article has been corrected to reflect the young man killed was 22, not 14 as initially reported.

The incident took place near the village of Khirbet Amo, east of the town of Qamishli on Wednesday. Clashes broke out after the American patrol veered off its expected route and was stopped at a Syrian Army checkpoint, the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation reported.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Prayers for this young man's family and friends; and that being said, can anyone, please, actually logically explain to me what the hell we are doing, militarily, in Syria, other than potentially annoying Russia so much with this military misadventure, that Moscow will see no other way of dealing with it, than to conduct a savage military campaign against American military resources here>?!?

Didn't think so.

SENATE PASSES WAR POWERS ACT LIMITING TRUMP’S AUTHORITY TO LAUNCH MILITARY OPERATIONS AGAINST IRAN

SOURCE: NBC NEWS

The Senate backed legislation Thursday to limit President Donald Trump’s ability to wage war against Iran, rebuking him after a strike against an Iranian military commander and Tehran’s retaliation last month raised fears of broader regional conflict.

Eight of Trump’s fellow Republicans joined Democrats to pass the war powers resolution by 55-45. The measure would require Trump to remove U.S. troops engaged in hostilities against Iran unless Congress declares war or passes a specific authorization for the use of military force.

Let our news meet your inbox. The news and stories that matters, delivered weekday mornings.

Trump has promised a veto and there is not expected to be enough support in the Senate to muster the two-thirds majority to override. Republicans in the chamber hold 53 of the 100 seats and rarely vote against the president.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Senate was absolutely correct in doing this, because the Constitution very unambiguously states that only Congress can declare war.

That being said, it is very unfortunate that President Trump's veto will be allowed to stand; because, sooner or later, in light of the reality that the President is pathologically incapable of seeing the country of Iran other than through the jaundiced eyes of one of his BFFs in the Middle East, Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, we are looking at a US war against Iran.

I would politely like to remind the President, Congress, the State Department, and the Pentagon, of a promise made last summer, by a Russian Diplomat, at a Symposium attended by Iranian delegates. This headline, from the Moscow Times, English language edition, and was published on 26 June, 2019: Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

The article goes on to state: "“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow."

Kabulov went on to say: "“But it’s not just Russia, many other countries sympathize and empathize with Iran,” the Kommersant business daily quoted him as saying. “Tehran won’t be alone if the U.S., God forbid, takes wild and irresponsible actions against it.”

So there you have it, folks; if the US invades Iran, Russia, and probably a number of yet-unspecified countries, will be willing to come to its aid against the US, and its consortium.

Zabulov, and other high Russian officials, when making statements like this, are making them because they are coming from both President Putin and the Russian Duma; I would like, please, for the officials in the US to remember this, as they are evolving a US Iran policy, which most likely will force the US to fight to "defend Israel", if the deal between Pompeo and Netanyahu, begun last December, comes to fruition this year: Netanyahu, Pompeo push forward with US-Israel defense pact

The JPost article goes on to state: "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made progress on a defense pact between their countries in their meeting in Lisbon this week, Netanyahu said on Thursday.

“The meeting with Pompeo was critical for Israeli security,” Netanyahu said of the discussion that took an hour and 45 minutes on Wednesday. “We agreed to promote a defense pact.”

Translation: this means that the US military would be forced to defend Israel in the region and beyond, even if Israel (as is so frequently the case) perpetrated some major mischief against its neighbors from which it cannot extricate itself, without US military assistance/aggression.

And BTW, if this gets passed after the annual AIPAC meeting in DC in March, does anyone in this country beside me, feel a draft?!?

Folks, particularly the parents, families, and friends, of American teenages; be afraid, be very afraid, should this legislation get passed.

What brought Iranian forces to Idlib front?

Iran’s involvement in Idlib appears to also have something to do with Iran’s grand regional plan following the killing of Soleimani, that is, attempting to expel US forces from the region. As the main concentration of the US forces in Syria is in the areas east of the Euphrates river controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces, Tehran wants the Syrian government operation in Idlib to be concluded successfully as soon as possible so that the next step in realizing Assad’s promise to “liberate every inch of Syrian territory” could be started in the east of the Euphrates. Referring to this issue, Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said in a press conference Jan. 30 that “the Syrian government and its allies from the resistance front will go from Idlib to the eastern Euphrates to expel the Americans.”

Russian politicians, military experts: The Syrian State has the right to use military force against terrorists on its land

MOSCOW, (ST)- Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council Andrei Klimov has affirmed that Russia's position towards Syria is based on the basic principles of the international law which consider that all the military forces and armed groups operating on Syrian territories without the approval of the legitimate Syrian government , as occupation forces which have no mandate justifying their presence in Syria.

In a statement to SANA, Klimov said the Turkish regime has not implemented its commitments regarding the de-escalation zone in Idleb pursuant to the Sochi agreement, stressing that this Turkish behavior complicates the situation in this area.

Trump Regime Illegals Murder a Syrian Civilian, Get to Taste Syrian Anger

The best I can tell the US troops killed a 14 year old for stoning their armored vehicle. And then things got really nasty.

Syrian locals threw stones and garbage cans against the criminal Trump illegal invaders and managed to tear down some of the illicit US flags from the tanks; in the following video clip, a Syrian local holds a tattered American flag, while verbally confronting two small soldiers who are armed and well protected, but who nonetheless, back away from the towering man:

This was too much for the cowardly, cheaply paid Trump regime forces, who then in full chickensh*t character, unleashed smoke bombs to blind the locals before shooting into the crowd, with live ammunition.

A civilian from Khirbet Ammo was murdered; another civilian from Hamoun village was injured.

Syria and Turkey Edge Toward All-Out War While Putin Smiles

There have been several clashes between Syrian and Turkish military forces in the last two weeks, as Syria attempts to retake Idlib province from rebel forces. Turkey has carved out a demilitarized zone in Idlib, which is supposed to be a safe zone for Syrian civilians. Their goal is to prevent a flood of refugees from crossing the Syrian border.

But Syria is ignoring the Moscow-negotiated cease-fire and driving hundreds of thousands of refugees toward Turkey, most of them in desperate straits.

The UN is warning of a humanitarian catastrophe as 700,000 Syrians are on the move with nowhere to go. But there are likely to be more refugees as Syria and Turkey have now come to blows, with President Erdogan promising to "punish" Syria for attacking Turkish positions in Idlib.

Trump cuts last remaining aid to PA to coerce acceptance of annexation plan

The Trump administration has dealt another blow to the the flailing Palestinian Authority (PA) in the form of more budget cuts, this time to the PA’s security forces.

The State Department released its congressional budget request for 2021 on Monday; noticeably missing was funding for the Palestinian Security Services, which has received bipartisan support in congress for 27 years.

Last year, the US provided the Palestinians with an estimated $35 million for their security services.

Since President Trump took office, the US has been steadily cutting humanitarian and economic aid to the Palestinians, plunging the PA and other organizations like UNRWA into deep financial crises.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If President Trump believes that blackmail will bend the Palestinians to his will in his alleged "deal of the century", he is utterly, and amazingly incorrect in his assessment.

For the Palestinians, this is not about money; it is about homeland, and history, two things they want to never see taken away from them again.

But in the current thinking in Tel Aviv, much of that is going away, and soon, if Israel annexes the West Bank and the Jordan Valley.

More Lies on Iran: The White House Just Can’t Help Itself as New Facts Emerge

The public that actually follows the news might recall a little more than one month ago the United States assassinated a senior Iranian official named Qassem Soleimani. Openly killing someone in the government of a country with which one is not at war is, to say the least, unusual, particularly when the crime is carried out in yet another country with which both the perpetrator and the victim have friendly relations.

It soon emerged that the Iranian was in fact in Baghdad to discuss with the Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi a plan that might lead to the de-escalation of the ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran, a meeting that the White House apparently knew about may even have approved. If that is so, events as they unfolded suggest that the U.S. government might have encouraged Soleimani to make his trip so he could be set up and killed.

Dems Phony War Powers Resolution

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

US 20th and 21st century history shows Dems more hellbent for war than Republicans.

In 1916, Dem Woodrow Wilson was reelected on a pledge of: “He Kept Us Out of War.”

Straightaway, he began planning US involvement in Europe’s war — today called WW I.

Propaganda his regime sponsored transformed pacifist Americans into raging German haters. Wilson got the war he wanted.

The same goes for Dem Franklin Roosevelt. From 1933 to late 1941, he spurned Japanese peace overtures that would have protected US interests in the Pacific.

By executive order, he froze Japanese assets. He waged economic war on the country, goading its ruling authorities to retaliate.

In late November 1941, US war secretary Henry Stimson said war depended only on how to maneuver Japan to attack with the lowest number of US casualties.

A week before World Economic Forum’s 2020 meeting, the report Unlocking Technology for the Global Goals was released by WEF’s Global Future Council Working Group on 4IR for Global Public Goods. The report, written in collaboration with the audit and consulting firm PwC, reviews how the advanced technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) will contribute to meeting the objectives of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is, again, a brave new world, protecting the elites, and the already monied, at the expense of ordinary working people just trying to barely survive; think the brilliant film, "Elysium", and you are quite there.

This is not a world in which I, and probably most of my more intelligent brothers and sisters, will not want to live; and those in power who think they will tether us to technology, to make it impossible to escape, have completely forgotten the power of the human will, when it is focused on survival, and ultimate thriving.

And that... is the monstrously hubristic problem with such a system.

What about stopping endless wars? Trump urges GOP to vote down Iran war resolution because it’s a partisan ploy by Democrats

US President Donald Trump says the resolution that would block him from using force against Iran is a partisan trick by Democrats, even though he campaigned on a peace platform and some of his closest allies support the proposal.

“We are doing very well with Iran and this is not the time to show weakness,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday, adding that Tehran would “have a field day” if his hands were tied.

“The Democrats are only doing this as an attempt to embarrass the Republican Party. Don’t let it happen!” he urged the GOP majority.

At stake is the Iran War Powers Resolution, proposed by Democrats in the wake of the drone assassination of General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad last month.

NEW LEAKS SHATTER OPCW’S ATTACKS ON DOUMA WHISTLEBLOWERS

SOURCE: THE GRAYZONE
Facing accusations that it issued a doctored report alleging a chemical attack in Syria, the OPCW has released an inquiry attacking two whistleblowers as rogue actors. Leaked documents obtained by The Grayzone reveal serious distortions in the OPCW inquiry as well as a campaign of intimidation against internal dissenters.

BY AARON MATÉ
For the past year, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has been roiled by allegations that it manipulated an investigation to falsely accuse the Syrian government of a chemical weapons attack. An OPCW report released in March 2019 lent credence to claims by Islamist militants and Western governments that the Syrian military killed around 40 civilians with toxic gas in the city of Douma in April 2018. The accusation against Damascus led to US-led military strikes on Syrian government sites that same month.

VIRUSES, EPIDEMICS AND EXPERIMENTS: THE HISTORY OF BIOWARFARE

The use of bacteria, viruses and other biological agents as weapons of war has a long and gut-wrenching history. From the Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick Barbarossa, using corpses to poison water wells in 1155 AD, to the Mongols catapulting the dead bodies of plague victims into the besieged city of Caffa in 1346, there are many examples of early, rudimental forms of biological warfare. An infamous use of biological warfare occurred in 1763, when British forces deliberately provided Native Americans with smallpox-contaminated blankets, producing a major outbreak of the disease.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Someone, in the scientific community has to have the "male attributes" to resist being tasked with creating such biological weapons.

And we know that the first person in this country to "just say no", to creating such weapons, will be ridiculed, sideline, ostracized, and blacklisted, to the point of never being able to participate in science again, unless some foreign university admires her or his stand so much, and because of it, hires that person to be teaching medical/scientific ethics.

That would take "industrial-strength male attributes" on the part of that university search committee, but when one scientist is able, publicly and successfully to "just say no" to the creation of these diseases, I think that many others would follow.

Creating these diseases is the polar opposite of the intent of the Hippocratic Oath, which exhorts Doctors and scientists to "do no harm", because the purpose of the creation of these diseases, is to create situations where large numbers of people sicken, and die, including innocent babies; children; women; and the medically fragile elderly.

Will President Rodrigo Duterte End US Occupation of the Philippines?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Throughout the post-WW II era, the US sought unchallenged control over Asian nations, their resources and populations — what Obama’s 2011 Asia pivot was and remains all about.

It involves advancing Washington’s military footprint in a part of the world not its own, aiming to contain, weaken and isolate China and North Korea, wanting Russia checked at the same time in East Asia and Europe.

Washington’s global empire of bases is key to advancing its imperium — parts of it used as platforms for endless wars against nations threatening no one.

Yet there’s little or no coverage of what costs US taxpayers trillions of dollars in the post-WW II era.

Democrats Ignore Trump’s Real Violations

Last month, President Trump authorized the assassination of a top Iranian General, Qassim Soleimani, and a top Iraqi military officer inside Iraqi territory while Soleimani was on a diplomatic mission. Trump and his Administration tried to claim that the attack was essential because of an “imminent threat” of a Soleimani attack on US troops in the region.

We found out shortly afterward that they lied about the “imminent threat.” The assassination was not “urgent” – it was planned back in June. Trump then claimed it didn’t matter whether there was an imminent threat: Soleimani was a bad guy so he deserved to be assassinated.

But the attack was an act of war on Iran without Congressional declaration or authorization for war. Is that not perhaps a “high crime” or “misdemeanor”?

Implausible Denials: The Crime at Jabal al Tharda. US-led Air Raid on Behalf of ISIS-Daesh Against Syrian Forces

On 17 September 2016 a carefully planned US-led air raid on Jabal al Tharda (Mount Tharda), overlooking Deir Ezzor airport, slaughtered over 100 Syrian soldiers and delivered control of the mountain to DAESH / ISIS. After that surprise attack, the terrorist group held the mountain for almost a year, but did not manage to take the airport or the entire city. US-led forces admitted the attack but claimed it was all a ‘mistake’. However uncontested facts, eye witness accounts and critical circumstances show that was a lie. This article sets out the evidence of this crime, in context of Washington’s historical use of mercenaries for covert actions, linked to the doctrine of ‘plausible deniability’.

109 US service members suffered brain injuries in Iran missile strike – Pentagon

Trump lied. I wonder how many service people were really killed and wounded. Probably closer to the Iranian estimate,80 dead and over 200 wounded.

The number of US troops that suffered ‘mild traumatic brain injury’ in last month’s Iranian missile strikes has been updated to 109, of which 76 have already returned to duty, the US Department of Defense said.

Trump’s Brink of War with Iran Spun on a Lie

Iraqi military intelligence has found that almost certainly the rocket attack on a U.S. base in December which killed an American contractor was carried out by the Islamic State terror group – not an Iranian-backed Shia militia, contrary to what Washington has been claiming.

It turns out that President Trump’s brink of war with Iran was most likely spun on a cynical lie. That misinformation also led to the U.S. assassination of top Iranian military leader, Major General Qassem Soleimani on January 3, and to the subsequent shoot-down of a civilian airliner in Iran with 176 lives lost.

“Stories within Stories”: The CIA’s Strategies to Dupe the American Public

Peel the Onion technique. Keep peelin and pretty soon there is nothing left.

Recently Paul Craig Roberts recounted a conversation he had with James Jesus Angleton, a former head of CIA counterintelligence, in which they discussed strategies that the CIA employs to dupe the American and global public, with a view to perpetrating criminal agendas, cloaked beneath the lie of “national interests”. Angleton explained to Roberts that,

intelligence services create stories inside stories, each with its carefully constructed trail of evidence, in order to create false trails as diversions. Such painstaking work can serve a variety of purposes … Then if the official story gets into trouble, the backup story can be released in order to deflect attention into a new false story or to support the original story.

Neo-McCarthyite Witchhunters Hypocritically Mourn the Death of Kirk Douglas

by Matthew Ehret Posted on February 10, 2020

Hollywood film legend Kirk Douglas’ passing on February 5th at the age of 103 has resulted in a sickening level of hypocrisy from the leftist mainstream media outlets. These outlets have written countless homages and memorials honoring the life of the man who “used his star power and influence in the late 1950s to help break the Hollywood blacklist” as CNN reported on February 6. Similar eulogies have followed this line from MSNBC, the NY Times, Washington Post, as well as many Hollywood celebrities.

What makes this so sickening is not that these memorials are untrue, but rather that it is these same MSM/Hollywood forces that are the heirs to the fascist McCarthyite machine which Kirk Douglas and his close network of collaborators fought so courageously against during their lives.

Great Investigative Piece on Syrian Rebel Mercenaries in Libya Hired by Turkey

“Turkish forces are resorting to lies to keep the Syrians fighting in Libya motivated”, “These mercenaries believe whatever Turkey tells them”

Editor’s note: Great piece on how Turkey undermined the Islamist rebels in Idlib whose military defeat at the hands of the Syrian army it is now so loudly protesting.

As Syrian and Russian forces bombard Idlib and the Aleppo countryside, thousands of militants from the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (TFSA) who would presumably be defending these areas in Syria are instead in Libya. They’ve been flown to Tripoli by Turkey, at the request of the Government of National Accord (GNA), to fight alongside the myriad Islamist groups defending the key city from the advancing Libyan National Army (LNA), led by General Khalifa Haftar.

“The Impeachment Parade of Jews”

The gravest betrayal, of course, is that of Donald Trump. Due to his erratic and infantile behavior, it can be hard to assess his thinking here. But some things are relatively clear. By any reasonable accounting, Trump is little more than an unprincipled, semi-literate, egomaniac. But owing to his extremely thin margin of public support, he is compelled—indeed, forced—to appeal to true conservatives, the working class, and the dissident right. Clearly he has no intrinsic desire to help such groups, and he has no sympathy for their plight. Trump is the epitome of a privileged, wealthy, out-of-touch elite. But to stay in power, he must occasionally throw us a bone. We on the dissident right can take it and make some hay with it; but we mustn’t expect much more. Trump’s actual policies and decisions will certainly favor his wealthy compatriots and the Jewish power-brokers he works with.

Iran Attack on Two US Bases, The “Evil Empire” Strikes Back. The Casualties?

This would explain the if looks could kill face on the head of the JCS during Trump's all is well. The Iranians handed the US a massive humiliating defeat and Trump lied about it!

After their excessive and macabre display of delight and satisfaction, and even celebration, over the killing of Solemani, the White House was tight-lipped about Iran’s almost immediate retaliatory missile attack on two US bases in Iraq, with Donald Trump soon claiming only a bit of physical damage, announcing on Twitter a day after the attack, “No Americans were harmed in last night’s attack by the Iranian regime. We suffered no casualties.” Trump also stated there was no significant damage to the bases.

Trump’s Chumps

I voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election.

I spent months making the case for Trump on this website. I will be the first to admit that I was wrong and that those who were skeptical of Trump in our community were right in 2016. In that election, I drank the koolaid and was one of Trump’s Chumps. Unlike AmNats, I have tried to learn something from that experience.

In 2020, we have a far better sense of Donald Trump. The Trump administration has a record now. Donald Trump’s first term is mostly history. We can now look back with the benefit of hindsight and evaluate our standing after the last three years without being drunk on Trump koolaid. No one drank the Trump koolaid in our community more deeply than the AmNats. Some of them remained drunk on the Trump koolaid even after the 2018 midterms. A handful of his most faithful cheerleaders have never given up faith in their GOD EMPEROR and succumbed to reality.

What is the reality of the Trump presidency?

'War Games in the North': Is Israel Bracing for New Conflict Involving Syria, Lebanon & Iran

On 28-30 January, the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) held its 13th annual international conference entitled "Strategic Assessment for Israel: A Look at the Coming Decade." INSS researcher, Retired Brig. General Dr Meir Elran, has shed light on Israel's strategic goals and outlined Israel's vision of Russia's role in the Middle East.

"War Games in the North" came as part of the INSS annual conference in the Smolarz Auditorium at Tel Aviv University with Israeli, American and Russian participants discussing various scenarios of a potential development of a conflict in the Middle East, involving Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Hezbollah and Iran and global players – the United States and Russia.

The participants in the military simulation came to the conclusion that all of the actors of the hypothetical conflict - in which Israel initiates attacks on Lebanon and Syria – would opt for de-escalation as no one is interested in an all-out war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh, I would very politely suggest that Israel would be for all-out war... as long as the US military does its fighting for Israel.

Just take a look at this article, reported last December in jpost.com: Netanyahu, Pompeo push forward with US-Israel defense pact

This would OBLIGATE the US to fight Israel's battles for it, in the Middle East; but in understanding just how difficult Israel finds living among its neighbors without starting wars of aggression against them, is this really where US foreign policy should really be, at this moment in the history of the US relationship with Israel?!?

We are probably going to hear a lot about why such a pact is necessary, to save Israel from its "existential (read: economic) threats" in the region when AIPAC convenes in DC this March, and particularly when Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu addresses the group.

We already understand the degree to which AIPAC "owns" many of those in the bowels of power in DC; but to enact legislation which insures that, no matter what Israel might have done to cause a problem in the Middle East, that the US military is committed to saving Israel's backside, when it may well be Israel which caused the problem leading to conflict in the first place?!?

This is utterly not good US foreign policy, and will forever confirm, to Israel's neighbors, that the US cannot be a moral force for peace in the region.

US East Coast No Longer "Safe Haven" Due To Russian Submarines, Admiral Warns

US Vice Admiral Andrew Lewis, the head of the Navy’s 2nd Fleet, raised eyebrows this week with alarming comments made at a Center for Strategic and International Studies event.

He told the think tank audience that a recent uptick of Russian submarine presence of the US East Coast means that the coastal area should no longer be considered "uncontested" nor should any longer be deemed a "safe haven" for US ships or submarines.

He noted recent increased Russian submarine activity in the Atlantic Ocean, especially Russia's utilization of more advanced and quieter types which go largely undetected.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The fact that Russia has "more advanced and quieter types" of subs is not Russia's problems; the problem is, why can the US not detect them, and why is the US military/industrial complex (again) behind the proverbial 8-ball here?!?

THAT.. is the question which must be asked, and answered, by the US defense industry.

Syria & Russia Publish Evidence Of US Weapons Recovered In Idlib 'Terrorist Enclave'

The Syrian Army is making major gains inside Idlib in a military offensive condemned by Turkey and the United States, over the weekend capturing the key town of Saraqib from al-Qaeda linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

Amid the military advance, the Syrian and Russian governments say they've recovered proof of US support for the anti-Assad al-Qaeda insurgent terrorists, publishing photographs of crates of weapons and supplies to state-run SANA:

Syrian Arab Army units have found US-made weapons and ammunition, and medicines made in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait at the positions and caches of terrorist organizations in the towns of Mardikh and Kafr Amim in Idleb southeastern countryside after crushing terrorism in them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable, but perfectly predictable from this government.

US Deploys "Mini-Nuke" In Deplorable Threat To World Peace

Via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

The Pentagon confirmed this week that it has, for the first time, armed some of its submarines with long-range nuclear missiles which have a lower destructive power compared with existing warheads. These so-called “mini-nukes” represent – despite the diminutive-sounding name – an increased risk of nuclear war.

The newly deployed W76-2 warhead fitted to the Trident missile system is reported to have an explosive yield of five kilotons, or about 1 per cent of the existing W76-1 weapon. The supposed lower-yield weapon is nevertheless an instrument of immense mass destruction, equivalent to approximately a third of the power of the bomb the US dropped on Hiroshima in August 1945 which killed tens of thousands of people. That puts in perspective the seemingly more usable “mini-nuke” missile.

However, with Dr Strangelove-type logic, Pentagon official John Rood, claimed

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, the deployment of such weapons does absolutely make us, or the world, more safe, but makes us very much less so.

And would someone please define what this government is calling "
Russia Aggression" for me?!? Forgive me, but I don't think I could ever be called an "intellectual slouch", but I'm just not seeing this.

Are the Russians and Chinese, in some areas, light years ahead of the US on weaponry, and are they getting a lot more "bank for their buck", in terms of weapons development?!>?

We know that the short answer is "Yes"; but instead of blaming Russia or China for their better evolution of weapons, should we not be defining the problems in US weapons development, and getting them fixed?!?

Folks, I'm just saying.....

U.S. Bomber Fleet May Shrink Temporarily as Troubled B-1B Lancer Faces Likely Early Retirement

As the U.S. Air Force considers retiring a large portion of its legacy combat jets to save funds for reinvestment in more modern aircraft, the B-1B Lancer heavyweight variable swept wing bomber has been a leading candidate for early retirement due to its increasingly limited capabilities, very low availability rates and high operational costs. The U.S. Air Force has continued to face difficulties operating the Lancer , with the aircraft’s very high maintenance requirements and operational costs leaving over 90% of the fleet out of service in 2019. The B-1B fleet was initially scheduled for complete retirement in the mid 2030s, when they would be replaced by larger numbers of B-21 Raider stealth bombers, but ongoing reliability issues and rising operational costs could force the Air Force to retire the aircraft early - with some Lancers potentially leaving service before 2025.

'Israel using passenger jets as shields'

The spokesman stressed that Israel was well aware of civilian flights around Damascus and that such missions demonstrated the regime's reckless disregard for human lives.

Russia had previously warned that Israeli airstrikes against Damascus were endangering civilian jets.

March 19 marks 15 years since the U.S.-U.K invasion of Iraq in 2003, and the American people have no idea of the enormity of the calamity the invasion unleashed. The US military has refused to keep a tally of Iraqi deaths. General Tommy Franks, the man in charge of the initial invasion, bluntly told reporters, “We don’t do body counts.” One survey found that most Americans thought Iraqi deaths were in the tens of thousands. Operation Barbarossa II: Setting The Stage For War

I have written several times about the continuing NATO preparations for an attack on Russia, a second Operation Barbarossa, the code name for the Nazi invasion of the USSR in 1941. Circumstances prompt me to write about it again, for as of the last week in January the Americans and their gang of lieutenant nations in NATO have commenced the biggest military exercises in 25 years to take place in Europe. The code name for this operation is Defender-Europe 20 but we can interpret that as Attack-Russia 20; in effect a preparation for an attack on Russia comparable to the Nazi invasion in 1941 that killed 27 million Soviet citizens, wounded countless more and destroyed everything west of the Urals and led ultimately to the crushing of the Nazis that launched the attack.

Do Israel’s bombs cause miscarriages in Gaza?

Iman Abu Tayem was six months pregnant when Israel attacked Gaza in November.

She became increasingly frightened on the second day of that attack. The sound of explosions near her home in the town of Bani Suhaila got louder.

One blast in the evening was so powerful that it made her fall to the floor.

Approximately 15 minutes later she lost consciousness. Muhammad, her husband, noticed that she was bleeding and called an ambulance.

She was brought to Abu Yousef al-Najjar hospital in the city of Rafah.

“I woke up in the hospital and my whole body was in pain,” Iman said. “The first question I asked my husband was if my baby was ok. My husband did not answer and I fainted again.”

By that time, Muhammad already knew that Iman had suffered a miscarriage. The hospital staff had told him the bad news about three hours after Iman was admitted during the early hours of 14 November.

As a musician and composer, I understand that sound can both help heal... and, unfortunately, actually help destroy human life.''

It is a torture weapon of choice at places like Guantanamo, and "black ops" sites, controlled by this country.

The Israeli military understands this, also; they have no doubts about how this works, and is very much a part of their "Final Solution for the Palestinian People": the minimization of Palestinian live, healthy births, and by any means necessary.

And although the IDF wants to claim that this never happened, there was a t-shirt worn by many Israeli military not too long ago, depicting a pregnant Palestinian woman, with the statement in Hebrew; "One shot; two kills."

Our Military Is Clashing With Russians While Defending Syrian Oil. Why?

Trump seems to think it's okay to choose who controls resources and who doesn't in other people's countries.

Last month, American military forces physically blocked Russian troops from proceeding down a road near the town of Rmelan, Syria. U.S. troops were acting on orders of President Trump, who said back in October that Washington would be “protecting” oil fields currently under control of the anti-Assad, Kurdish Syrian Defense Forces.

Meanwhile, the Russians are acting on behalf of Syrian president Bashar Assad, who says the state is ultimately in control of those fields. While no shots were fired in this case, the next time Moscow’s forces might not go so quietly.

Turkey Demands Russia Stop Syria From Fighting in Idlib

Syrian forces enter al-Qaeda-held town or Saraqeb.

After the Turkish military attacked and killed scores of Syrian soldiers in the same area, Syria has launched a new offensive against al-Qaeda-held Saraqeb, and Syrian forces have reportedly entered the town.

Turkey is very averse to the idea of Syria taking any more territory from al-Qaeda, and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu is demanding Russia immediately force Syria to stop all offensives in Idlib Province.

Cavusoglu said Russia must “immediately stop the regime,” and that Turkey considers Syria contesting these towns as a source of “humanitarian drama.”

Syria’s interest in Idlib, beyond it being part of Syria and just rife with Islamists, is that two towns, Maarat al-Numaan and Saraqeb, are on the main highway between Damascus and Aleppo. Syria would very much like full control of that highway, and having already taken the former town, they are pushing to take the later as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

For Erdogan to be making these demands of Russia, it is obvious to me, that he doesn't know who he is dealing with, in Putin, and/or he has gone completely out of his mind.

I can understand why Damascus wants Idlib back, from a standpoint of
military control of the road linking Damascus and Aleppo, although the cost, in blood and money, is going to certainly be horrific.

Prayers, if you are so inclined to do so, that the civilian casualties will be as minimal as humanly possible.

A NEW SPACE RACE? US, CHINA, RUSSIA, AND EUROPE ALL PLAN FOR MOON BASES

One year ago in January, a Chinese robot landed on the dark side of the moon. Since then, the Chang’e 4 probe and the Yutu-2 rover it carried onboard have been busy photographing and scanning minerals, growing yeast, hatching fruit-fly eggs, and cultivating cotton, potato, and rapeseeds in the moon’s low gravity, according to the Daily Beast.

Now, China’s National Space Administration is quietly planning to launch yet another probe into space. Chang’e 5 could blast off as early as this year.

Last year, TMU reported that the Yutu-2 rover came across a strange “gel-like” substance which the Chinese began to study extensively.

The Chinese space agency has continued to work on its Tiangong 3 space station and is planning on testing a new manned spacecraft for deep-space missions. That permanent station will reach orbit aboard the country’s new Long March 5B rocket in the first half of 2020, AFP reported. The mission will not be associated with the International Space Station.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The very clearly articulated desire of the US government to "weaponize space", concerns me deeply.

Space exploration should be a place in which all countries around the world should be cooperating, and not competing; humankind, as a species, is never better than when it works together to share information, and insights, to give us a better understanding of where we stand, in our little blue island of Light, relative to the rest of the universe.

Trump’s State of the Union address tonight was a laundry list of false and misleading claims. It will take the fact-checkers the better part of the night to identify all of the misrepresentations and spurious claims that the president made as he rattled off one implausible statistic after another. The few references that Trump made to foreign policy issues predictably glossed over the many failures of administration policies. If you knew nothing about the last three years of Trump’s presidency, the picture he painted sounded pretty good. If you have paid any attention at all before now, you realized that the country was being snowed under with an avalanche of lies and half-truths.

The most disingenuous part may have been this section on Iran:

Beyond Ukraine: America’s Coming (Losing) Battle for Eurasia

by Maj. Danny Sjursen, USA (ret.) Posted on February 06, 2020

Academic historians reject anything smacking of inevitably. Instead they emphasize the contingency of events as manifested through the inherent agency of human beings and the countless decisions they make. On the merits, such scholars are basically correct. That said, there was something – if not inevitable – highly probable, almost (forgive me) deterministic about the two cataclysmic world wars of the 20th century. Both, in retrospect, were driven, in large part, by collective – particularly Western – nations’ adherence to a series of geopolitical philosophies.

Syrian Army’s Offensive in Idlib Deepens Rift Between Russia and Turkey

Major strains are appearing in Russian-Turkish relations, particularly over the Syrian Army’s latest offensive against Turkish-backed jihadists in Idlib and Russia’s non-agreeance with Turkey’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood government based in the Libyan capital of Tripoli. Last week Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an made a massive outburst against Russia that has since only escalated. At the heights of relations, according to a November 2018 INR poll, 51% of Turks viewed Russia favourably. However, a poll published on Sunday by Turkey’s Daily Sabah found that only 16% of Turks trust Russia with the so-called mistrust because of Moscow’s Syria and Libya position.

Erdogan Says He Issued Ultimatum to Putin for Syria to Relinquish Gains or He’s Joining the War on AQ’s Side

I think Putin gave him an answer. His troops are now encircled.

According to Erdogan he told Putin that if Russia will not make Syria retreat from its territory, the Turkish army and air force would. Again according to Erdogan’s word he has given the Russian president until the end of February to accomplish this.

Toxic ‘black goo’ base used by U.S. had enriched uranium. More veterans report cancer

For the last six weeks, a private Facebook group set up to help veterans who served at a toxic base in Uzbekistan has been flooded with new members, many with hauntingly familiar stories: I served at K2. I have cancer.

“It was overwhelming,” said retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Scott Welsch, a special operations military intelligence officer who deployed to K2, or Karshi-Khanabad, Uzbekistan, in October 2001.

McClatchy exclusively reported in December that the Pentagon had known from the beginning that K2, a former Soviet and Uzbek base, was contaminated with radioactive processed uranium, chemical weapons remnants and underground pools of fuel and solvents that broke through the soil in a “black goo.”

Over the past two weeks of coronavirus headlines and heightened global anxiety, along with impeachment coverage and after over the Super Bowl weekend Americans huddled in living rooms in blissful oblivion, a story which in more normal times would be front and center has gone largely unnoticed. To be sure, the Pentagon couldn't be happier that this bombshell has taken a back burner in global headlines:

The Pentagon made $35 trillion in accounting adjustments last year alone — a total that’s larger than the entire U.S. economy and underscores the Defense Department’s continuing difficulty in balancing its books.

This impeachment spectacle is Shakespearean in its scope: full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Nothing is the key word here.

Podcast – Episode #19 – Alistair Crooke and the Civilizational Wars of the U.S. and Europe

Alistair Crooke and I sit down for a wide-ranging chat on the loss of institutional legitimacy all across the West and the Middle East. Starting with Brexit and what it means for the U.K. and spanning the globe to include Europe, its relationship to Russia and the ideological wars being waged by various factions against Iran and China, this is an episode I don’t think anyone should miss.

I know that I am better served for having been a part of it. And, if in our own small way we can prevent further wars of this type, it will
