I am convinced that a new Declaration of Independence will be good both for the United States and for Israel.

Israel strikes Syrian military bases, Hezbollah targets near Syria-Lebanon border

According to the report, the airstrikes targeted the bases of the 155th and 65th strategic missile brigades, stationed in Qalamoun, near the Syria-Lebanon border. Residents of nearby cities Yabroud and Qarah reported hearing explosions.

Former Syrian opposition leader Hadi al-Bahra tweeted that there were reports of attacks on the 92nd battalion, in addition to the attacks on the 155th and 65th brigades. Al-Bahra also tweeted that the 155th brigade is responsible for launching Scud and Scud-B missiles.

Moscow says falsification of history in Latvia is part of purposeful policy

Drone Strikes Reveal Uncomfortable Truth: U.S. Is Often Unsure About Who Will Die

Every independent investigation of the strikes has found far more civilian casualties than administration officials admit. Gradually, it has become clear that when operators in Nevada fire missiles into remote tribal territories on the other side of the world, they often do not know who they are killing, but are making an imperfect best guess.

The president’s announcement on Thursday that a January strike on Al Qaeda in Pakistan had killed two Western hostages, and that it took many weeks to confirm their deaths, bolstered the assessments of the program’s harshest outside critics. The dark picture was compounded by the additional disclosure that two American members of Al Qaeda were killed in strikes that same month, but neither had been identified in advance and deliberately targeted.

I find it bitterly ironic that as a former lecturer in Constitutional law, President Obama has embraced the tactic of extrajudicial assassinations, which kill and maim the innocent more often than not.

Right now, this country's leadership looks like a jaysap's nether regions to much of the rest of the world, because the US government talks about human rights, and the critical importance of participatory democracy, while continuing to support our tinpot dictators around the world, such as Al-Hadi in Yemen; the al-Khalifa monarchy in Bahrain; and the Saudi monarchy.

Add to that the deaths and maimings caused by extrajudicial assassinations, and you are looking at a perfect storm of profound hatred in the Middle East against the United States.

Armenia, Turkey still at odds a century after 1915 massacre

Some 2 million Armenians were living in the Ottoman Empire at the start of the World War I in 1914, which increased turmoil in the Middle Eastern realm and led to its eventual demise.

URGENT: Saudi Arabia Bars Iran's Cargo Plane from Entering Yemen's Airspace

The Iranian civilian plane carried humanitarian aids, including medical equipment, for the Yemeni people who have been under the Saudi-led airstrikes for almost a month now.

The plane was bound for Sana'a Airport, but was intercepted by the Saudi fighter jets before entering Yemen's airspace.

Obama: US Could Penetrate S-300 System to Attack Iran

Speaking on MSNBC, President Obama downplayed Russia’s decision to allow Iran to buy S-300 air defense systems from them, saying the systems would not stop an American attack on Iran.

“Even if they’ve got some air defense systems, we could penetrate them,” Obama insisted, noting the US spends $600 billion on its military compared to Iran’s $17 billion.

The S-300 line was a top Soviet-era long-range air defense system, it first entered use in Russia in the 1980s. It has never been used in combat anywhere, but is considered a higher end defensive system.

Ex-CIA chief will be sentenced for leaking military secrets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former CIA Director David Petraeus, whose career was destroyed by an extramarital affair with his biographer, was expected to be sentenced Thursday in federal court in Charlotte for giving her classified material while she was working on the book.

Petraeus will appear at the sentencing, which comes two months after he agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.

The plea agreement carries a possible sentence of up to a year in prison. In court papers, prosecutors recommended two years of probation and a $40,000 fine. But the judge is not bound by that and could still impose a prison sentence.

The agreement was filed in Charlotte, where Paula Broadwell, the general's biographer and former lover, lives with her husband and children.

Lavrov: US demands fast demolition of WW II monuments in East European country

The United States is demanding faster demolition of monuments to World War II monuments in one of the East European countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a live interview to three Russian radio stations on Wednesday.
"We do know what type of activities the Americans are engaged in [European] capitals, and what messages they try to deliver," he said, commenting on his earlier statement Washington was using the Ukrainian crisis with the aim of spoiling Russia-EU relations.
"US emissaries have gone as far as to demand that the government of one of the East European countries, liberated by the Red Army, should speed up the demolition of monuments to World War II heroes," said Lavrov. He avoided mentioning the country he was referring to.

In his new book War Play: Video Games and the Future of Armed Conflict, Mead explores the U.S. military's use of videogames as a tool for recruitment, training, and treatment. US Warship Heads To Yemeni Waters; Could Block Iran Weapons

In a stepped-up response to Iranian backing of Shiite rebels in Yemen, the Navy aircraft carrier, USS Theodore Roosevelt, is steaming toward the waters off Yemen to beef up security and join other American ships that are prepared to intercept any Iranian vessels carrying weapons to the Houthi rebels.

The deployment comes after a U.N. Security Council resolution approved last week imposed an arms embargo on the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels. The resolution passed in a 14-0 vote with Russia abstaining.

Navy officials said Monday that the Roosevelt was moving through the Arabian Sea. A massive ship that carries F/A-18 fighter jets, the Roosevelt is seen more of a deterrent and show of force in the region.
