What We Get Wrong About Yemen

Fast-moving developments in recent days reveal that Yemen appears closer to collapsing into a total failed state. Meanwhile the headlines have started to lump the conflict in Yemen—a country that President Obama only last September portrayed as an anti-terrorism success story—together with the sectarian fighting in Iraq and Syria; “Shia rebels” are said to be battling “Sunni tribesmen,” allegedly taking support from Iran as they fight Yemen’s Saudi Arabia-backed Sunni president.

Information War Between Russia and the West Intensifies

War is raging between the West and Russia, with a key battlefield being the “war for public opinion” and control over information, narratives and perspectives. The Ukrainian crisis has again reiterated the polar opposite narratives between Western and Russian media as the information war intensifies.

Bankers Hate Peace: All Wars Are Bankers’ Wars

As Lee Fang writes: The possibility of an Iran nuclear deal depressing weapons sales was raised by Myles Walton, an analyst from Germany’s Deutsche Bank, during a Lockheed earnings call this past January 27. Walton asked Marillyn Hewson, the chief executive of Lockheed Martin, if an Iran agreement could “impede what you see as progress in foreign military sales.” Financial industry analysts such as Walton use earnings calls as an opportunity to ask publicly-traded corporations like Lockheed about issues that might harm profitability.

Terrified Sana'a residents say: 'The bodies are starting to fill the streets'

Yemenis in Sana'a have taken to social media as the city comes under air strikes from Saudi Arabia and its anti-Houthi alliance allies.

Residents described a city that was not expecting conflict and has little infrastructure to deal with it, as bombs level houses and kill civilians on the ground.

They report long lines for fuel and the sound of gunfire, with one Twitter user @amera_al_5581, saying they received a text from a friend in Yemen, saying: "The sound of bullets can be heard clearly...[he says] bodies have started to fill the streets. Prayers for your brothers".

Bibi Wins with Racism and Revoked Promise

Reality crashed down on those who had hoped the March 17 Knesset elections might lead to a more moderate future Israeli leadership.

The election returns brought the news, Benjamin Netanyahu had won again.

He won in large part by revoking his earlier pledge to support a Palestinian state, and by using last-hour racist warnings to bring out hard right voters.

“Something like scales” must be made to fall from the eyes of the American public which has been endorsing, funding and supporting a brutal military occupation for almost five decades. How will that be accomplished?

OIL SURGES, GOLD AND SILVER SPIKE AS SAUDI ARABIA BOMBS YEMEN

Geopolitical tensions escalated dramatically over night as Saudi Arabia launched military operations including air strikes in Yemen. The Saudis claim the action is to counter Iran-allied forces besieging the southern city of Aden where the U.S. backed Yemeni president had taken refuge. Oil surged and gold rose nearly 2% following a sharp drop in stocks on Wall Street globally in response to the bombing in Yemen.

Conference Program to Scrutinize Israel Lobby on April 10 at National Press Club

Conference organizers are the American Educational Trust, publisher of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, and the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy.

This unprecedented gathering will focus on the Israel lobby in America. How big is it? How fast has it grown? How interconnected are the organizations and individuals? How much revenue does it raise and where does the money go? What are the common objectives of the lobby? What laws apply to lobbying to benefit a foreign government and are they vigorously enforced? Do coordinated campaign contributions cause American policymakers to act more on behalf of Israel than the United States? What fallacies underlie the assertions that U.S. and Israeli interests are the same? What are the Israel lobby’s public and private, short-and-medium-term policy objectives? And what can Americans who do not believe pro-Israel slogans, activities and policy objectives do?

The Roots of Netanyahu’s Electoral Victory: Colonial Expansion and Fascist Ideology

Netanyahu has established the fact that Israel and its people embrace a racist ideology and receive the endorsement of most Western leaders, and mass media and the unconditional support of its overseas fifth column.

There is no question that the majority of Israeli Jewish leaders and parties support Netanyahu’s racist pronouncements and ‘no-state’ solution and joined him in a coalition government. But the larger issue is the positive mass response to Netanyahu’s call to action. Nearly three quarters of the electorate turned out (73%) to elect him. Moreover, Netanyahu has been elected prime minister for four terms: between 1996-99 and more recently 2009-20.

What is more, the opposition has not differed from the Netanyahu coalition regime’s Judeo-centric policies and pronouncements. In other words, ‘racist’ ideology per se is not what drives the Israeli majority to repeatedly support Netanyahu.

Breaking News - Saudi Arabia starts bombing Yemen - envoy

Saudi Arabian forces, joined by nine other countries, have launched a military operation in Yemen against Shiite Houthi rebels, the Saudi ambassador to the US said. The offensive, which started with airstrikes, will also involve “other military assets.”

According to Ambassador Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, the military operation in Yemen started at 7 p.m. EST (11 p.m. GMT). The US is not participating in the operation, the envoy stressed.

Al Arabiya reported that warplanes of the Royal Saudi Air Force bombed positions of Yemen’s Houthi militia, targeting their air defenses.

F-35 pilots are seeing double, but it's the plane that's drunk

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter may be stealthy, powerful and expensive, but the plane's greatest threat isn't the enemy. Instead, engineers have discovered a software glitch that gives these new super fighters the technological equivalent of double vision. F-35s are equipped with Advanced Sensor Fusion, a system that's designed to collate sensor data from all of the planes and combine them into one big picture. If you have 10 jets zooming around, all of the allied pilots and commanders will, theoretically, be able to see everything that's going on.

Unfortunately, when two planes look at the same object, they do so from different angles, and the sensors can't combine that data into a single cohesive image. That means that pilots are stuck with tactical displays that offer a vague sense of where the enemy is, but not if there's one combatant or several.

Kicked to the Curb (Why the USA is the Michael Brown of nations.)

I begin to understand why the death of Ferguson, Mo, teen Michael Brown sent such shock waves through America last year. He truly symbolized our country: an overgrown, oafish, wannabe thug making one bad choice after another until his final, suicidal lurch against authority — followed by all the exculpatory lying on his behalf: the “gentle giant,” hands up, don’t shoot! This is exactly how America acts on the world stage these days. We are the Michael Brown among nations, high on exceptionalism, stoned on entitlement, swaggering moronically from one place to another grabbing what we feel like, smashing things up as we go.

Also, as in the case of the actual Michael Brown, supposedly sentient observers do not have the guts to call bullshit on all the excuses we make for ourselves. Has any self-styled presidential candidate made a peep about America’s idiotic campaign to make Ukraine the 51st state? Has Hillary (“It’s Her Turn”) Clinton asked publically why the US is egging on NATO to stage military exercises on the Russian border? Do we still have a senate Foreign Relations Committee, and does it convene once in a while? Is The New York Times so preoccupied with its “Gay Cities” index it forgot that the world is full of serious conflicts and hazards that extend beyond the choosing of apartment décor?

Russian Duma may reauthorize Putin to send the Russian Army into Ukraine

“The Russian Parliament ought to once again give the President of the Russian Federation to use armed force in Ukraine if the US decides to send sizable arms supplies to that country.” This announcement was made by the First Deputy Chairman of the “Just Russia” faction, Mikhail Emelyanov.

The US House of Representatives adopted a resolution on Tuesday recommending the US president to approve arms supplies to Ukraine. The resolution calls on the president to “use the authority provided by Congress to furnish Ukraine with lethal defensive weapons.” According to the authors of the resolution, this measure would “increase the Ukrainian nation’s ability to defend its sovereignty.” The authors of the resolution also exclusively blame Russia for the deaths suffered during the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. At the same time, they ignore the fact that a significant portion of the refugees is in Russia.

He won in large part by revoking his earlier pledge to support a Palestinian state, and by using last-hour racist warnings to bring out hard right voters.

Because Netanyahu’s Likud party won the largest number of seats (30) in the new Israeli parliament (120 total), he will play the major role in organizing the next government.

Even liberal Zionist Thomas Friedman had to acknowledge that Netanyahu won with “dirty” politics and the use of “dog-whistle” language. Friedman wrote in his New York Times column that “You cannot win that dirty and just walk away like nothing has happened”.

STUDY: U.S. "WAR ON TERROR" HAS LEFT OVER 1 MILLION DEAD IN IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, PAKISTAN

The U.S.-led Multinational Force (MNA) in Iraq, the NATO International Securi-ty Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan and the U.S. Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF-A), also in Afghanistan, have carefully kept a running total of fatalities they have suffered. However, the military’s only interest has been in counting “their” bodies: 4,804 MNA soldiers have died in Iraq between March 2003 and February 2012, the date when the U.S. body counting stopped. As of early June 2013, 3,323 ISAF and OEF soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan since 2001.

More States Added to ‘Jade Helm’ Military Exercise

The US military has quietly added more states to its eight-week Jade Helm joint training drill, originally designated to take place in seven southwestern states.

Speaking of the exercise at the Brazos County Commissioners Court in Texas last month, Jade Helm Operations Planner and retired Green Beret Thomas Mead told an audience that the drill, which will run from July 15 to September 15, will now include the states Mississippi and Florida.

“The exercise is actually an eight-week exercise taking place across seven states,” Mead explains. “As you can see right there, it spans the whole southwest of the United States. We’ve also added Mississippi and we have a group also working out of Florida.”

“We’ll have Navy Seals that’ll be conducting targets and training down in the Mississippi area,” Mead also says.

Aircraft-less carriers: No point in new Navy vessel if no jets supplied, MPs warn

Britain cannot afford to launch the second of its new aircraft carriers, HMS Prince of Wales, because of planned cuts in the defense budget, a committee of MPs said on Tuesday.

The total cost of operating the aircraft carrier, which includes deploying additional ships to protect it and jets to launch from it, exceed Britain’s projected military spending, MPs warned.

Prime Minister David Cameron confirmed the government’s intention to bring HMS Prince of Wales into service at the NATO summit in Wales last September.

At the time, Cameron said the second aircraft carrier would enable the UK to “always have one carrier available, 100 percent of the time.”

TUNISIAN TERROR ATTACK SUSPECTS TRAINED IN U.S. “LIBERATED” LIBYA

Libya has turned into a complete and total disaster zone/terrorist training camp ever since America and its allies decided to liberate it. Blood Money: These Companies and People Make Billions of Dollars From War

Despite warnings of its existence and imminent expansion, the military-industrial complex (or military-industrial-congressional complex) remains in operation today. It is a major reason we are stuck in a perpetual war.

Is Netanyahu Behind the Massacre in Tunis?

Is Israeli intelligence behind the massacre in Tunis? Ask yourself, why would Tunisians commit such a monstrous atrocity that harms no one - but Tunisia? Cui bono?

The senseless terrorist attack on innocent civilians at the Bardo Museum in Tunis, in fact, bolstered no one except Benjamin Netanyahu, whose duplicity had been utterly exposed the day before the attack - when he was re-elected to head the Zionist state that occupies Palestine.

No group had even claimed responsibility for the murderous attack on tourists visiting the Bardo National Museum in Tunis until the Israeli website, SITE Intelligence Group, "interpreted" the terrorist attack for the Western media - and blamed Islamic State - the following day.

The Israeli interpretation, from Mossad's SITE, of the attack in Tunis could have come straight out of one of Netanyahu's books from the 1980s about "Fighting Terrorism."

CONFIRMED: U.S. intentionally escalating tensions with Russia

First of all, as far as the heavy armored stryker vehicles are concerned, their movement is being done in a classic pre war psy op fashion. Rather than be shipped by rail, they are driving the main roads in a huge public show and the troops are pitching tents and camping along the way. The goal of this psy op is to allow American soldiers to be seen in public places by many people, with top behavior being an order. They are doing this to put American forces in a positive light, and this tactic for a simple "vehicle movement" is unprecedented. It is a clear sign that America's intentions are war, because the method will build support in local communities in Europe, which will be needed if war does start.

Mainstream U.S. Writers Call for Supporting Al Qaeda and ISIS

Sure, America’s closest allies support ISIS.

And admittedly, the U.S. has repeatedly fumbled, so that arms got into Al Qaeda and ISIS’ hands. Here, here, here and here.

And poor U.S. policies have undoubtedly created more terrorists then they’ve neutralized.

And it’s true that the U.S. knowingly supported Al Qaeda in Libya in order to topple Gaddaffi. But that was on the QT.

But now – for the first time – mainstream flacks are publicly calling for the United States of America to support ISIS and Al Qaeda …

Okinawa governor moves to pull plug on US base relocation

The governor of Japan’s southernmost prefecture of Okinawa has ordered a halt on the development of a controversial plan to relocate a US military base there.

Speaking at a news conference in the prefecture's capital, Naha, on Monday, Takeshi Onaga stated that he would revoke an earlier drilling permission needed to relocate the Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to a sparsely-populated coastal region.

"Because rock drilling has apparently been carried out (outside the area covered by the permit), I ordered them to suspend the work while the prefecture probes the issue," he said.

Monster US warship anchors off Portsmouth, defense chiefs downplay British shrinkage

At more than 100,000 tons, laden with warplanes and missiles and with 5,000 men and women aboard, the American Nimitz Class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt anchored at Portsmouth has British defense chiefs talking down military cuts.

The Roosevelt – known to her crew as Big Stick – is currently moored off Portsmouth because she is simply too big to dock in the port.

Serving alongside the thousands of US sailors and marines, as part of an exchange program, are six aircraft handlers and a navigator from the Royal Navy.

US Heightens Military Presence in Gulf as Iran Nuclear Deal Approaches

As the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 nations come to a head, the US begins Eagle Resolve, a massive military exercise in the Persian Gulf.

With the support of regional allies, the US moved nearly 3,000 military personnel, as well as "air, land, sea, and special operations components," into the gulf on March 8. Taking place just off the coast of Kuwait, the exercise will continue through the end of the month, and is meant to improve the military’s response time should an incident occur in the region.

U.S. General: West Created ISIS

General Wesley Kanne Clark, Sr., former Supreme Allied commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) during the war against Yugoslavia and presidential candidate, revealed recently on CNN that the Islamic State (ISIS) was “funded by our friends and allies in order to fight Hezbollah.” Although hailed by many as a whistleblower for this revelation, is it really possible that a man of his stature, who led NATO in slaughtering tens of thousands of innocent Serbs under the completely fabricated charges that they were genociding Muslims, really be telling the American people the truth now, or was this “leak” a half-truth designed to mislead?

Israel shuns UN rights session on Gaza onslaught

Israel has inexplicably shunned a UN Human Rights Council’s special session on the grim situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the Israeli military’s devastating offensive against the besieged Gaza Strip last summer.

A source close to the council said on condition of anonymity that Israel's absence from the meeting in the Swiss city of Geneva on Monday clearly amounted to a boycott.

"We won't comment on that," a spokeswoman with the Israeli mission said. The United States also did not take part in Monday's discussions.

The Neo-Con Attempt to Rewrite the History of World War II

Among those who are pushing for increased sanctions on Russia and ignoring its significant role in winning World War II are the sons and daughters of fascist and Nazi Eastern European emigrés who arrived in the United States in the years following the war, mostly via the Central Intelligence Agency’s «Operation Paperclip», to escape trials for supporting the Nazi cause in their homelands. These emigrés helped form various right-wing groups that orbited around the «Captive Nations» supra-organization that was enabled by those in the Eisenhower and succeeding administrations. Out of this constellation of fascist organizations arose the Ukrainian-American Zionist Lev Dobriansky and his daughter, former George W. Bush State Department official, Paula Dobriansky, along with the one-time supporter of the German Gestapo in Hungary, Gyorgy Schwartz, who later called himself «George Soros.» Their ideological progeny can today be found in governments throughout eastern and central Europe.
