Rouhani: Trump's Demands for Meeting Rejected 8 Times

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that he has 8 times rejected his US counterpart Donald Trump's demand for talks during the 2017 trip to New York to participate in the UN General Assembly conference, stressing the need for Washington to rejoin the 2015 nuclear deal.

"Today, we do not have any way but resistance. During the 2017 visit to New York, the US administration demanded 8 times for meeting with the US president and in the year 2018, 5 world leaders mediated for this meeting. I told them that conditions and time are not appropriate. The US should first return to the nuclear deal and admit their mistake," President Rouhani said, addressing the officials of Gilan province's administrative council on Thursday.

Trump cancels reporting deaths by US assassination drones

US President Donald Trump has canceled the Obama-era plicy of reporting deaths caused by US assassination drones.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday rebuked House Democrats for not taking “a stronger stand against” anti-Semitism as they continue to debate how to deal with the latest controversy caused by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

“It is shameful that House Democrats won’t take a stronger stand against anti-Semitism in their conference,” Trump tweeted.

“Anti-Semitism has fueled atrocities throughout history and it’s inconceivable they will not act to condemn it!”

Guantanamo sees new construction a decade after prison ordered shut

A worn, yellow Bobcat excavator barrels over the defunct, 1940s-era McCalla Airfield, now the home of a maximum-security courthouse at Guantanamo Bay's Camp Justice.

The machine is bringing in materials needed for the expansion of offices and a new holding cell adjacent to the courthouse. The medically equipped cell will allow prisoners to live at the Camp Justice section of Guantanamo during court proceedings for the first time.

It has been 10 years since former US President Barack Obama issued an executive order to close the prison facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

However, not only has US President Donald Trump been determined to keep the camp open, his administration is now expanding it.

Strangely, the media have suddenly taken an intense interest in the case of pedophile and major Democratic donor Jeffrey Epstein.

“US And Its Vassals Should Stop Serving Us Fairy Tales.” — Lafontaine"It is not Putin forbade the Germans to trade with other nations, but Trump."

Oskar Lafontaine, leader of the Left in the Saarland Parliament and former SPD chairman, has vehemently defended the controversial gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 and the purchase of Russian natural gas by Germany in a Facebook post.

Lafontaine cites US security adviser and Stratfor founder George Friedman as saying: It is a trivial realization that the United States would have a problem if German technology and Russian commodities came together. (…) The main goal of [the US is] for over a century is to prevent a German-Russian alliance. Of course, the US wants to drive a wedge between Germany and Russia. Therefore, US President Donald Trump now wants to prevent the purchase of environmentally friendly gas and instead sell Germany his “polluting fracking gas.”

Therefore, there is a “lying campaign” of Das Bild and other “quality media” and relevant well-known “Atlanticists” among the CDU and the Greens.

David Stockman: The Undrainable Swamp & The Inevitable Recession

Love it or hate it, the potency of the Trump Administration is on the wane, soon to be stuck in the mire of the Swamp it has deepened instead of drained, while the economy falls into one hell of a recession -- so claims former Regan-era Cabinet member and Congressman David Stockman.

In his new book Peak Trump, Stockman notes how the wide divergence between Trump the campaigner and Trump the president appears to be proving to be his undoing.

Rather than fight to dismantle the institutions he railed against as a candidate -- most notably the Deep State and the Federal Reserve -- Trump has embraced them.

Now, when this latest asset bubble bursts (and Stockman believes the markets saw their peak back in Fall 2018), Trump will 'own' that. Having chosen to tie his administration's success to the rising price of the S&P 500 since taking office, he won't be able to foist the blame of a market crash on his predecessors.

Trump Looks To Nationalize 5G

Trump apparently wants to control 5G in a ‘state-run’ socialist twist to American capitalism - and now there are indications that it could become part of the 2020 election campaign.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign team renewed its controversial pitch on nationalizing the country’s 5G network. In other words, the government would have control of 5G airwaves and lease access to private wireless providers.

Kayleigh McEnany, a Trump 2020 campaign spokeswoman, told Politico that a wholesale 5G market would drive down costs and provide access to millions of Americans who are currently underserved.

“This is in line with President Trump’s agenda to benefit all Americans, regardless of geography," McEnany said. Trump's 2020 campaign manager, Brad Parscale, has been also pushing for a plan that would involve a nationwide 5G network.

Is peace finally possible in Afghanistan?

The Afghan Taliban's cofounder is in talks with the United States in an attempt to bring an end to more than 17 years of war.

It's the US's longest war and last year a record number of people died in Afghanistan. Almost 4,000 civilians were killed and 7,000 wounded.

The UN is blaming the Taliban and The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) for deliberately targeting civilians in suicide attacks. But Afghan and US forces have also stepped up their assaults on armed groups.

Now attempts to end the bloodshed are gathering pace.

The Taliban and the US are in talks in Qatar.

Rouhani: Iran's Problem with US Not Negotiable

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the problem and difference between Tehran and Washington will neither be resolved through negotiations nor compromise.

"Our problem with our enemies falls in one sentence. We have differences on this issue that the US tells us to return to 40 years ago (the era of dependence on western powers) and we say that we will not go back and we will continue the path of progress, independence, freedom and democracy," President Rouhani said, addressing the Iranian people in the Northern town of Lahijan on Wednesday.

"Therefore, today we have no differences with the US that could be settled through negotiations or compromise. We should force the enemy to withdraw and make it understand that the Iranian nation will continue the path of honor and pride," he underlined.

US President Donald Trump has revoked the executive order requiring public reports on civilian casualties in drone strikes carried out by the CIA, as well as US military.

The new executive order, issued Wednesday, revokes the reporting requirement introduced by President Barack Obama in July 2016. The action required the Director of National Intelligence to release an unclassified summary of US strikes against terrorists “outside areas of active hostilities” and assessments of non-combatant deaths caused by those strikes.

Kamala Harris received money from Donald Trump as recently as six years ago. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner hosted a Park Avenue fundraiser for Cory Booker. Kirsten Gillibrand took in Trump family donations three times across a seven-year period — and then gave a similar amount of money to a nonprofit years later after the president mocked her in a tweet.

As the president gears up for his re-election fight, donor records show that six of the declared or potential Democrats itching to take him on have themselves been the beneficiaries of his — or his daughter’s — largesse.

On Second Thought, Hillary Isn’t Ruling Out a 2020 Run

A source close to Hillary Clinton has reportedly nixed recent claims that the former Secretary of State is closing the door on a 2020 presidential campaign.

Maggie Haberman, a political reporter for the New York Times, revealed on social media that she spoke to an unnamed source who is “close with Clinton.”

That source said Hillary’s statements were taken too definitively and that everyone was surprised to see the reaction.

In an interview with News 12 Westchester earlier this week, the two-time presidential contest loser appeared to say she would not be running, instead remaining active in the Democrat sphere by helping others who might be able to defeat President Trump.

President pressured staff to grant security clearance to Ivanka Trump

President Donald Trump pressured his then-chief of staff John Kelly and White House counsel Don McGahn to grant his daughter and senior adviser Ivanka Trump a security clearance against their recommendations, three people familiar with the matter told CNN.

The President's crusade to grant clearances to his daughter and her husband, Jared Kushner, rankled West Wing officials.
While Trump has the legal authority to grant clearances, most instances are left up to the White House personnel security office, which determines whether a staffer should be granted one after the FBI has conducted a background check.

Hold Trump Accountable for Real Crimes, Not Fake Ones

Aside from breaching virtually all positive promises made, like all other dirty politicians, Trump remains unaccountable for high crimes of war and against humanity in multiple countries.

He’s responsible for waging war by other means on Iran and Venezuela, seeking to unlawfully topple their legitimate governments.

He’s at war with unwanted aliens of the wrong race, ethnicity, and/or religion, as well as Muslims from the wrong countries.

His regime secretly indicted Julian Assange for the “crime” of truth-telling. The White House considers publishing or leaking vital information everyone has a right to know a threat to national security.

When governments call truth-telling independent journalists and whistleblowers acting responsibly national security threats, totalitarian rule replaces free and open societies, tyranny replaces freedom.

Trump's 'ultimate deal' faces ultimate failure

Despite their best efforts, Trump's 'peace envoys' have failed to secure support for their deeply flawed plan.

Makovsky is an author and journalist who covered the often anguished twists and turns of the journey to reach the Oslo accords of 1993 and 1995. Ross was appointed President Bill Clinton's Middle East envoy in the first Clinton administration and in that capacity helped to broker the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, commonly referred to as Oslo II in 1995.

Trump Slams Media Censorship: “I Would Rather Have Fake News Like CNN… Everyone One Of Us Is Like A Newspaper”

As mainstream media and social platforms continue to lock-down and censor content that doesn’t follow the progressive socialist agenda, President Donald Trump weighs in with his view.

And, as you may expect, he doesn’t like censorship. But he’s not just talking about the censoring and de-platforming of conservative or independents, he’s warning the Left that should such activities continue, it could well be they who may be censored next.

We’re standing up to social media censorship… that’s the new thing… I would rather have fake news like CNN… I would rather have fake news.. it’s true… than to have anybody including liberals, socialists…. than have anybody stopped and censored…

Every one of us is like a newspaper… you have Twitter, Facebook, whatever you have… you can’t have censorship… you can’t pick one person and say ‘well, we don’t like what he’s been saying, he’s out’

US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to end preferential trade treatment for India, accusing New Delhi of failing to convince Washington it will provide “equitable and reasonable” access to its markets.

“I am providing notice of my intent to terminate the designation of India as a beneficiary developing country under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program,” Trump said in a letter to Congress on Monday.

Exporting American's gun problem? The proposed rule that has monitors up in arms

The Trump administration is on the cusp of changing small-arms export regulations that opponents say could flood conflict zones like the Middle East with the same retail guns used in mass shootings in the US.

The rules, which could be finalised this month, would allow sniper rifles, semi-automatic firearms and AK-47-style assault rifles to be sold commercially without requiring US companies to register with the State Department.

The State Department is required under the Arms Export Control Act to inform Congress of any arms sales worth $1m or more, a process which led lawmakers to block $1.2m in handgun and ammunition sales to Turkish security forces after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's bodyguards beat up protesters in Washington DC in 2017.

'It's a political hoax!' Trump blasts House Democrats for launching 'abuse of power' probe with document requests targeting 81 people and groups including Don Jr., Eric, Jared, Roger Stone, Michael Cohen and Hope Hicks

President Donald Trump blasted House Democrats on Monday after they announced the launch of a new 'abuse of power' investigation with 81 separate document requests to people and organizations inside the president's orbit.

The targets include his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, son-in-law Jared Kushner, disgraced former lawyer Michael Cohen and former adviser Roger Stone, who is awaiting trial.

Trump first suggested North Korea wasn’t responsible for Otto Warmbier’s death. Now he’s walking it back.

President Donald Trump can be shamed into (kind of) walking back comments that reflect kindly on known tyrants — all it takes is resounding criticism that overshadows any of his related accomplishments.

After receiving widespread negative coverage of comments he made earlier this week appearing to absolve North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in the death of Otto Warmbier, a US student who died after being imprisoned in North Korea for over a year, Trump said Friday he was “misinterpreted.”

At a summit between the US and North Korea earlier this week, Trump was asked by reporters if he had confronted Kim about Warmbier’s death. The president confirmed that he did ask about the young American’s mysterious death in 2017, and said he believed Kim “felt badly,” but claimed to have known nothing about it at the time.

How Pro-Israel Foundations in Washington are Pushing a US War with Iran

Observers of developments in the Middle East have long taken it as a given that the United States and Israel are seeking for an excuse to attack Iran. The recently terminated conference in Warsaw had that objective, which was clearly expressed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but it failed to rally European and Middle Eastern states to support the cause. On the contrary, there was strong sentiment coming from Europe in particular that normalizing relations with Iran within the context of the 2015 multi-party nuclear agreement is the preferred way to go both to avoid a major war and to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.

Is Trump's 'Deal of the Century' Just the Biggest Bribe in History?

After two years of waiting for Trump’s Deal of the Century, it now appears that what the U.S. president and Jared Kushner have in mind is more like the Bribe of the Century.

As The New York Times reported on Wednesday, the heart of the plan is showering tens of billions on economic aid on the Palestinians, as well as on Egypt, Jordan and possibly even Lebanon.

How many billions we’ll only know after Israel’s elections, when the plan is unveiled, but the Times quotes sources as saying the Palestinians alone will get $25 billion and the others as much as $40 billion.

On the rise of a future Palestinian state, Kushner remained vague. In an interview with Sky News on Wednesday, he declined to relate to that issue directly but implied that things like national borders were a frippery.

This is a little odd considering that his father-in-law and boss is a big fan of borders and walls.

That is the important part. Trump used his own money, NOT campaign funds, to pay the blackmailers.

President Trump Exaggerated North Korea's Summit Demands, Officials Say

President Donald Trump said he walked away from his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un because Kim demanded the U.S. lift all of its sanctions, a claim that North Korea’s delegation called a rare news conference in the middle of the night to deny.

So who’s telling the truth? In this case, it seems that the North Koreans are. And it’s a demand they have been pushing for weeks in lower-level talks.

Trump’s much-anticipated meeting with Kim, held in the Vietnamese capital Wednesday and Thursday, ended abruptly and without the two leaders signing any agreements. Trump spoke with reporters soon after the talks broke down and said the dispute over sanctions was the deal breaker.

“Basically, they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety, and we couldn’t do that,” he said. “We had to walk away from that.”

North Korea disputes Trump's account of summit breakdown

North Korea is disputing President Donald Trump's account of why the summit between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un collapsed.

North Korea's foreign minister said that the North demanded only partial sanctions relief in exchange for shuttering its main nuclear complex, and that the discussions collapsed after the U.S. demanded further disarmament steps.

Ri Yong Ho's comments during an abruptly scheduled news conference in Hanoi on Friday contradicted the explanation by Trump, who hours earlier had told reporters that the North had demanded a full removal of sanctions in exchange for shuttering the Yongbyon nuclear facility.

Trump ordered aide to give Kushner security clearance: NY Times

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered his chief of staff in May to grant his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner a top-secret security clearance, the New York Times reported on Thursday.

It said senior administration officials were troubled by the decision, which prompted then White House Chief of Staff John Kelly to write an internal memo about how he had been ordered to give Kushner the top-secret clearance.

The White House counsel at the time, Donald McGahn, also wrote an internal memo outlining concerns raised about Kushner and how McGahn had recommended against the decision, it said.

This Supreme Court Justice Is About To Cause All Hell To Break Loose By Retiring

Some liberals wanted Ginsberg to retire back in 2013 after Obama won re-election and the Democrats had control of the Senate.

That would have allowed Obama to install a younger leftist, putting three of the liberal bloc’s four Supreme Court seats safely out of reach for 30 to 40 years.

And there has been some speculation floating around Washington that Thomas may retire this summer.

That would allow Trump and the Republicans to tee up a confirmation fight heading into the 2020 election.

And the New Yorker’s Jeffrey Toobin – who serves as their legal correspondent – believes this may be the case.

A Clash Is Coming Over America’s Place in the World

In the past several months, a meaningful debate has finally started to emerge over America’s role in the world. Politicians and analysts — left, right and center — are conceding that longstanding mistakes have brought the United States to an uncertain moment. Provoked by President Trump, they are concluding that the bipartisan consensus forged in the 1990s — in which the United States towered over the world and, at low cost, sought to remake it in America’s image — has failed and cannot be revived.

But the agreement ends there. Foreign policy hands are putting forward something like opposite diagnoses of America’s failure and opposite prescriptions for the future. One camp holds that the United States erred by coddling China and Russia, and urges a new competition against these great power rivals. The other camp, which says the United States has been too belligerent and ambitious around the world, counsels restraint, not another crusade against grand enemies.

The art of no deal: Why can’t Washington reach agreements with...anyone?

The much-anticipated second summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un was cut short this week, with both leaders leaving Vietnam early before an expected signing ceremony. Sometimes you just have to walk away, Trump said.

The negotiations ultimately floundered when it came to the question of lifting US sanctions on North Korea. Kim wanted partial sanctions relief in return for its “realistic proposal”to halt nuclear and missile tests and dismantle a nuclear facility at Yongbyon, but Trump was not prepared to compromise.

Murray Hunter, an associate professor at the University Malaysia Perlis, told RT the result was a “catastrophic failure” given the “high expectations” the White House had put on the meeting. So, what does it really take to reach a deal with the United States?

House Democrats to Probe Trump Attacks on FBI, Courts, Media

House Democrats are opening an investigation into what they say are abuses of power by President Donald Trump through his attacks on the courts, the Justice Department, the FBI and the media, according to a House official familiar with the plans.

Topics for the inquiry will include Trump’s public humiliation of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, his attacks on actions by the liberal Ninth Circuit Court and his abuse of reporters as “dishonest” and “enemies of the people,” said the person, who asked for anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

US on Brink of Recognizing Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan Heights

With Oil, Water and Iran as Targets, US on Brink of Recognizing Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan Heights
Israel is now pushing for the U.S. to recognize its sovereignty over the Golan for fear of losing it completely, even though such recognition could result in an all-out war between Israel and Syria, as well as with Syrian allies such as Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

WASHINGTON — A new bill recently introduced in the Senate, along with its companion bill in the House, would result in the United States government recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over Syria’s Golan Heights, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967. The territory was later annexed in 1981, but the international community — including the United States — has not recognized Israel’s claim to the Syrian territory.

In addition, the bill would also promote the U.S. conducting “joint projects” with Israel in the Golan, including “industrial research and development.” This is sure to result in joint U.S.-Israeli efforts to extract the large oil reserves recently discovered in the Golan Heights>>>

Emboldened by Trump, Netanyahu Takes His Election Bid to Dangerous New Levels

The fact that Netanyahu would bring into his future coalition a group classified as ‘terrorist organization’’ by the FBI speaks volumes about the changing relationship between the US and Israel.
***
It is quite typical for Israeli politicians to carry out confrontational measures against Palestinians shortly before general elections are due. The nature of these measures is determined by the kind of political constituency that Israeli leaders aim to appease.

However, a war on Gaza, at least for now, is too risky an option for Netanyahu as it would take place too close to the April 9 elections date. Moreover, a botched Israeli attack on the Strip on November 11 caused Netanyahu a major embarrassment, forcing him to shelve the Gaza option for now.

That said, if the Israeli Prime Minister’s political standing grows too desperate in the coming weeks, a Gaza war may, once again, be placed on the table.

Final Steps Of The Multipolar Revolution: Containing The US In Europe

The United States has in the last three decades brought chaos and destruction to large parts of Europe, in spite of the common myth that the old continent has basked in the post-WWII peace of the American-led world order. This falsehood is fueled by European politicians devoted to the European Union and eager to justify and praise the European project. But history shows that the United States fueled or directed devastating wars on the European continent in Yugoslavia in the 1990s, with the conflict between Georgia and Ossetia at the beginning of the 1990s, with the war in Georgia in 2008, and in the coup in Ukraine in 2014, with the ensuing aggression against the Donbass.

Nuclear Weapons: Who Has What at a Glance

At the dawn of the nuclear age, the United States hoped to maintain a monopoly on its new weapon, but the secrets and the technology for making nuclear weapons soon spread. The United States conducted its first nuclear test explosion in July 1945 and dropped two atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Just four years later, the Soviet Union conducted its first nuclear test explosion. The United Kingdom (1952), France (1960), and China (1964) followed. Seeking to prevent the nuclear weapon ranks from expanding further, the United States and other like-minded states negotiated the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1968 and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) in 1996.

Trump on brink of defeat on border emergency

President Donald Trump is on the verge of a bipartisan rejection of his emergency declaration at the border in what would be an embarrassing rebuke by a Congress opposed to his immigration agenda.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) on Monday night said he would join Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, along with 47 Senate Democrats to block Trump’s attempts to secure billions for his border wall after lawmakers effectively stiffed him. Now just one more GOP senator’s support for a resolution to block Trump's bid would send the measure to Trump’s desk and force a veto.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Attention morons in Congress: The US is starting a war in Venezuela (and according to Bolton, Nicaragua and Cuba). These wars are not on the other side of the planet, they are in what DC likes to call "Our backyard." Keeping the border open is an invitation to unconventional warfare conducted on our own soil.

Information suggest that the US occupation forces in the Syrian al-Jazeera area made a deal with Daesh terrorists, by which Washington gets tens of tons of gold that the terror organization had stolen in exchange for providing safe passage for the terrorists and their leaders from the areas in Deir Ezzor where they are located.

House Dems Turning On Mueller, Preparing To Launch ‘Plan B’ Against Trump

Democrats and their toadies in the corrupt media have been salivating over Mueller’s extra-constitutional fishing expedition as the one thing that will finally reverse the 2016 election, avenge Hillary and most importantly, provide “evidence” leading to Trump’s impeachment.

But a funny thing is now happening and that is there seems to be a good deal of downplaying of expectations that the report will have the smoking gun that will lead to Trump’s ouster and that the entire report may not even be publicly released – outside of the multitude of leaks that will inevitably occur.

In a sign that the Dems are losing faith in their savior, they are now moving beyond Mueller and planning to burn through millions of additional taxpayer dollars by clogging Congress with a boatload of their own investigations, tribunals and dog and pony shows that will have at least a passing resemblance to the infamous Moscow trials of the late 1930s.

US is still sounding the alarm on China, but their confrontation could be apocalyptic

China continues to be the focal point of US foreign policy and this will continue right throughout 2019. Despite the many reasons for the prolongation of this conflict, the overall implications of this war remain catastrophic.

It is fair to say that there is a lot going on in the world right now. For a while, Syria was the political hot potato that Western countries would use to show how much they supposedly cared about human rights. This is no longer the case when you have bloodthirsty Arab monarchies and Israel hatching a plan to “rehabilitate”Syria’s president, something even the US will no longer be able to justify as a foreign policy strategy. Hyping on and on about the Syrian conflict therefore no longer has the sex appeal it once had, and now we have other parts of the world closer to the US mainland which have grabbed the media’s fancy.

America’s Enemies, Who’s On the List?

For almost 2 decades, the US pursued a list of ‘enemy countries’ to confront, attack, weaken and overthrow.

This imperial quest to overthrow ‘enemy countries’ operated at various levels of intensity, depending on two considerations: the level of priority and the degree of vulnerability for a ‘regime change’ operation.

The criteria for determining an ‘enemy country’ and its place on the list of priority targets in the US quest for greater global dominance, as well as its vulnerability to a ‘successfully’ regime change will be the focus of this essay.

We will conclude by discussing the realistic perspectives of future imperial options.

If Truth Is Politicized, All Is Lost. Trump Grants Free Rein to the Crazed Neocons

As I write there is nothing on the BBC or CNN websites or anywhere else in the US print and TV media about the President of Russia’s clear statement. Trump has allowed the crazed neocons to raise the likelihood of nuclear Armageddon to near certainty, and it has gone unreported by the presstitutes.

Not only is there no evidence for Washington’s claim that Russia has violated the INF treaty, violating the treaty is not in Russia’s interests. Russian intermediate range missiles cannot reach the US. The purpose of the treaty is to keep Russia from targeting Europe by preventing US intermediate range missiles from being deployed in Europe. Washington tore up the INF treaty in order to put intermediate range missiles on Russia’s border, thus endangering Europe.

Trump, Xi In Talks To Meet At Mar-A-Lago Next Month

News of the summit, which follows reports earlier this month that the two sides were in the process of planning a sit-down between the two leaders, though Beijing had proposed the summit be held at the Chinese resort island of Hainan following Trump's summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. A meeting between the two leaders would be their first since a Dec. 1 dinner in Buenos Aires.

CNBC also reported that China has committed to buy $1.2 trillion in US goods (though a time frame for these purchases wasn't given, though it doesn't sound very realistic on its face).

The summit will offer the two leaders an opportunity to engage in marathon talks that will likely be needed to clinch a deal. Though the wide gulf between the two sides' positions suggests that an agreement is far from guaranteed.
