New York Magazine Confirms GotNews Scoop From July: White House Staffer Raj Shah Is Anti-Trump Saboteur

New York Magazine has confirmed two GotNews scoops from July 21st and July 25th of last year and identified White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah as an anti-Trump saboteur who somehow landed a prestigious job in the administration through former Chief of Staff and RNC Chair Reince Priebus.

According to an exclusive report from New York Magazine’s Olivia Nuzzi, Shah called then-candidate Trump “a deplorable” in the wake of the “Access Hollywood” hit job. While working at the RNC, Shah also sent a private message that described the release of the tape as “some justice.” It is unclear why a top RNC staffer would celebrate a bad news cycle for Republican presidential nominee.

A Slight Bump to Israeli Arrogance

Israeli arrogance might not have ended Saturday, but it surely cracked. Suddenly it became clear that Israel is not alone in the Middle Eastern, that even its immense military power has its limits. There could be a silver lining, if Israel accepts that it cannot forever live by the sword, nor even by advanced airplanes. Perhaps the F-16 that was downed took down with it the doctrine according to which everything can and should be resolved by force; first of all force, always force, only force.

Israeli Airstrikes Were Complete Failure, Retaliation Against Russia Expected

Yesterday, Gordon and I reported what the world’s media knows but will not say – that the Israeli airstrikes on Syria were a complete failure where no targets were hit and the Israeli planes failed to breach the Syrian air defences, rather, they flew straight into a hail of fire, shit themselves and dropped their bombs so they could make a run for the safety of Israeli airspace – they could run much faster without the encumbrance of heavy weapons loads.

The official line has the Israelis hitting a dozen targets and destroying Iranian and Syrian assets, all a lie; a desperate and pathetic attempt to prop up the ailing Netanyahu regime as it teeters on the brink of collapse due to the criminal investigations into Netanyahu and his wife which are drawing ever closer to the point of arresting and impeaching the Israeli leader.

Netanyahu launched these airstrikes in a pitiful attempt to draw attention away from the investigations that look set to destroy him.

Making America Great Through Exploitation, Servitude and Abuse

Billionaires and mega-millionaires are themselves the products of intense exploitation of tens of millions of isolated and unorganized wage and salaried workers. Capitalist exploitation is based on a rigid hierarchy with its private prerogatives, which enables the oligarchs to demand their feudal privileges, their seigniorial sexual predations.

US capitalism thrives on and requires unlimited power and the capacity to have the public treasury pay for its untrammeled pillage of land, labor, transport systems and technological development. Capitalist power, in the United States, has no counterpart; there are few if any countervailing forces to provide any balance.

US Nuclear Doctrine Threatens War Against 'Any Rival Challenging US World Order'

A few days ago, the US Department of Defense published the US's new nuclear doctrine. Together with the National Security Strategy and the National Defense Strategy, adopted earlier, the new nuclear doctrine represents the official system of thought of America's leadership under President Donald Trump.

The document sets forth a course for achieving all-round US superiority over any enemy, in line with Trump's 'America First' and 'Peace Through Strength' slogans, and as demonstrated by Washington's actions. The US is prepared to unleash a war against any rival who encroaches on America's monopoly position, or who violates the 'world order' established by the USA, in which they dominate over others.

How “America First” Became the Presidency of the Pentagon

The Pentagon’s new National Defense Strategy is the perverse embodiment of the Trump administration’s “America First” policy, putting American military and corporate empire above all else, even if it leads the country into financial ruin and a dangerous global war.
***
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump won over many American voters by his promise to put “America First.” Though this catchphrase was thought – at the time — to imply a populist message of putting the American people first, Trump has largely failed to deliver on his promises to roll back the corporate welfare state and instead invest in everyday Americans — as evidenced by his tax reform bill, the only legislative “victory” of his young presidency

Only weeks later, it emerged that Iraq War architect and former Deputy Secretary of Defense under George W. Bush, Paul Wolfowitz was guiding two of the three most powerful military figures in the Trump administration – James Mattis and H.R. McMaster – via private email

America’s Drug Wars in Africa: Missing Money, and a Phantom $500 Million

2017 was a year of investigations for U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). There was the investigation of the two-star commander of U.S. Army Africa who allegedly sent racy texts to an enlisted man’s wife. There was the investigation into the alleged killing of a Special Forces soldier by Navy SEALs in Mali. There was the inquiry into reports of torture and killings on a remote base in Cameroon that was also used by American forces. There was the investigation of an alleged massacre of civilians by American special operators in Somalia. And don’t forget the inquiry into the killing of four Special Forces soldiers by Islamic State militants in Niger.

And then there was the investigation that hardly anyone heard about, that didn’t spark a single headline. And still, the question remains: Whatever became of that $500 million?

To be fair, this particular scandal isn’t AFRICOM’s alone, nor did that sizeable sum belong only to that one command. And unlike the possibly tens of thousands of dollars in cash that reportedly went missing in connection with the strangulation of the Green Beret in Mali, that $500 million didn’t simply vanish. Still, a report by the Defense Department’s Inspector General (IG), released into the news wasteland of the day after Christmas 2017, does raise questions about a combatant command with a history of scandals, including significant failures in planning, executing, tracking, and documenting projects across the African continent, as well as the effectiveness of U.S. assistance efforts there.

If it can be determined that the omissions in submissions to the FISC were deliberate and calculated, the astute blogger Publius Tacitus has correctly observed that some senior FBI and DOJ officials who signed off on misleading or fraudulent applications concealing the antecedents of the so-called Steele Dossier to the FISC are now facing possible contempt-of-court charges that would include prison sentences. US To Send 1,000s Of Extra Marines To East Asia To Counter China

The Pentagon reportedly plans a “major muscle movement” from the Middle East to East China, with thousands of extra Marines to be deployed. The goal is to “persuade Pacific nations to stand with the US” and not China.
The US plans to boost its military presence in the East Pacific with rotating deployment of Marine Expeditionary Units, or MEUs. An MEU is a group of about 2,200 Marines who operate from amphibious assault ships and have their own aircraft, tanks, heavy weapons, and other resources. A typical deployment lasts for seven months and may involve missions on the shore like patrols or military-to-military training, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
***
The deployments will be made at the expense of the US military presence in the Middle East, and are in line with the new National Defense Strategy published earlier by the Trump administration, which sets countering Russia and China as a priority for the military. According to the report, the MEUs in East Asia will help the US “persuade Pacific nations to stand with the US.”

“I believe the [National Defense Strategy] and other guidance requires us to adopt a more global posture and this will shape our future naval presence, especially in the Indo-Pacific region,” Gen. Robert Neller, the commandant of the Marine Corps, said.

“We have to be present and engaged to compete,” he said. The new defense strategy “will shape our future naval presence, especially in the Indo-Pacific region.”

US Seizing Economic Assets in Syria Instead of Fighting ISIL

America's Israel Chasm

In many ways, American attitudes toward the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians haven't changed at all in 40 years. But in other ways, attitudes toward this intractable Mideast conflict have changed radically.

That's the paradoxical finding of a new Pew poll.

On the surface, aggregate public opinion has been remarkably stable since 1978, with overall sympathy for the two sides in the conflict barely changing at all. Forty-five percent of Americans sided with Israel then and 46 percent do now. Likewise, 14 percent favored the Palestinians in the late 1970s, while 16 percent take that position today.

But the consistency of the aggregate numbers conceals a chasm opening up beneath the surface, with Republicans and Democrats moving in polar-opposite directions. Where 49 percent of Republicans sided with Israel in 1978, an astounding 79 percent do now. The percentage of Democrats supporting Israel, meanwhile, has fallen from 44 to 27 percent.>>>

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia says he will raise the U.S.-led coalition's deadly airstrike on Syrian government-backed troops during closed consultations later Thursday in the U.N. Security Council.

Nebenzia told reporters at U.N. headquarters in New York he was not expecting a statement from the council, which would require consensus among the 15 members including the United States.

"Let's be realistic," he said. "I'm not sure we'll be able to reach it on that" attack.

Centcom announced that US-led coalition forces in Syria had opened fire at pro-Syrian government forces "in defense" of Syrian Democratic Forces headquarters. Damascus has yet to comment on the attack.

Syrian state-run TV has slammed the US-led coalition attack on government's allied troops east of the Euphrates River as a "new aggression" and "an attempt to support terrorism".

US Congress expected to vote on budget to avert govt shutdown

The US Senate and House of Representatives were expected to vote on a proposed budget deal on Thursday that would avert another government shutdown but that has angered fiscal conservatives who complain it would lead to a $1 trillion deficit.

The plan to keep the government operating and to increase spending over the next two years faced resistance from the right wing of the Republican Party, which favours less spending on government. At the same time, many liberal Democrats wanted to withhold their support as leverage to win concessions on immigration policy.

US jets bomb 'pro-regime' forces in Syria, killing 100

U.S. air strikes late Wednesday into early Thursday killed more than 100 fighters aligned with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, American military officials said.

The U.S. jets and artillery were called in when Syrian “pro-regime forces” moved tanks and artillery and fired mortars about 5 miles east of the Euphrates River in Khusham, Syria.

The river has long been a dividing line between U.S.-backed forces and Russian- or Iranian-backed fighters of the Assad regime.

The build-up of Syrian pro-regime forces took place over the past week and included approximately 500 fighters in a large, formation supported by artillery, tanks, multiple-launch rocket systems and mortars, one official said.

At US outpost in Syria, US general backs Kurdish fighters

On the ground in Syria, the top U.S. general in the coalition fighting the Islamic State group pledged on Wednesday that American troops would remain in the northern Syrian Kurdish town of Manbij despite Ankara's demands for a U.S. pullout.

"We're here to ensure the lasting defeat of ISIS is maintained in this area," Lt. Gen. Paul E. Funk said during a visit to U.S. forces in Manbij. ISIS is an alternative acronym for the Islamic State group.

Funk's visit comes amid rising tensions between Turkey and the United States — NATO allies that have ended up on opposing sides in some aspects of the multi-layered war in Syria.

While fighting IS in Syria, the U.S. has backed the Syrian Kurdish militia, known as the People's Protection Units or YPG — a group that Ankara considers "terrorists" and allied with Kurdish insurgents within Turkey, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK. The YPG makes up the backbone of a force that fought IS in Syria.

Write This Down: Huge Military Budgets Make Us Broke, Not Safe

We’re all tense. Hearing about our fellow citizens in Hawaii scrambling around, looking for a place to hide from a nuclear bomb, will do that to you. So will contests between two unstable world leaders over the size of their nuclear buttons.

Now, some politicians say they’ll protect us by adding massive amounts to the Pentagon budget. This seems like a no-brainer: feel threatened, give more money to the military. But it isn’t.

Practically everyone from the president on down, though, seems to take it as a given. “In confronting these horrible dangers,” Donald Trump said during his State of the Union, “I’m calling on Congress” to “fully fund our great military.”

The president and his party are now looking to add somewhere between $30 and $70 billion more in military spending to their budget for next year>>>

Russia Today Reports: US Is Heading For Bankruptcy!

Country is heading for bankruptcy': Lawmakers question military spending

Mattis made a case for more military funding to counter countries threatening “America’s experiment in democracy,” some members of the House Armed Services Committee questioned the expense.
“In a world awash in change and increasing threats, there is no room for complacency.” Mattis said in his opening statement, naming the threats as “rogue regimes such as North Korea and Iran,” Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) and “long-term strategic competition with China and Russia.”

He argued that the lack of predictable funding has “eroded” US advantages in technology and warfighting, and pleaded with the lawmakers to pass a military budget.

“Without sustained, predictable appropriations, my presence here today wastes your time,” Mattis said, adding, “no strategy can survive without the funding necessary to resource it.”

Congress has approved the $700 billion National Defense Authorization Act in December, but an actual budget for the fiscal year 2018 has not been adopted, making the military and the rest of the government reliant on continuing resolutions>>>

How Al-Qaeda Ended Up With Anti-Aircraft Missiles: Here Is The Congressional Authorization

Though US intelligence and defense officials have long denied that so-called "vetted" groups in Syria were recipients of anti-aircraft systems, rumors to the contrary have been persistent for years. The latest denial came immediately on the heels of Saturday's Russian jet shoot down, which resulted in the death of the pilot on the ground as he came under fire by jihadists. Pentagon spokesman Maj. Adrian J.T. Rankine-Galloway told Russia's TASS: "The United States have not provided any of its allied forces in Syria with anti-aircraft weapons."
