Bay Area police unlikely to help ICE on immigration sweeps

Interfere or not Police Chief, you are now subject to this Federal Law.

Officials from several Bay Area law enforcement agencies said Wednesday that federal officials haven’t looped them in on any plans for major sweeps for undocumented immigrants, and added that they didn’t plan to help with any such operations.

The Oakland City Council took it a step further, passing a resolution prohibiting police from providing so much as traffic control for federal immigration-enforcement actions.

And DHS is talking about charging Cali officials under this law.

8 U.S. Code § 1324 - Bringing in and harboring certain aliens

U.S. immigration officials have begun preparing for a major sweep in San Francisco and other Northern California cities in which federal officers would look to arrest more than 1,500 undocumented people while sending a message that immigration policy will be enforced in the sanctuary state, according to a source familiar with the operation.

Napolitano: Did Donald Trump Change His Mind on Domestic Spying?

***
Last week, I made an impassioned plea on Fox News Channel directly to the president. I reminded him that he personally has been victimized by unlawful surveillance and the political use of sensitive surveillance-captured data; that the Constitution requires warrants for surveillance and they must specifically describe the place to be searched and the person or thing to be seized; that warrants must be based on probable cause of individual behavior, not an area code or customer list; that the purpose of these requirements is to preserve personal privacy and prohibit bulk surveillance; and that he took an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

About an hour later, the president issued a tweet blasting bulk surveillance and unmasking. Two hours after that, he issued another tweet supporting the enactment of the FISA amendments.

What’s going on here?

I suspect that leaders in the intelligence community hurriedly convinced the president that if he sets aside his personal unhappy experiences with them and any constitutional qualms, they will use the carte blanche in the FISA amendments to keep us safe. This is a sad state of affairs. It means that Donald Trump changed his mind 180 degrees on the primacy of personal liberty in our once-free society.

Kelly: Trump Wants Chain Migration Limited to Nuclear Family, About $20 Billion for Wall Funding for DACA Deal

On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” White House Chief of Staff John Kelly stated President Trump wants about $20 billion for wall funding and chain migration limited to the nuclear family in order to bless a DACA deal.

Anchor Bret Baier asked Kelly, “What does the president need to see on chain migration to bless a DACA deal?”

Kelly answered, “The president sees that we should control that — nuclear family, that people that qualify to come into the United States as immigrants, if they’re married, of course, their wife will come in. If they have minor children, the minor children will come in. But not the parents, not the extended families. So, that’s where he is right now. This is — you know, we can talk about this, but that’s where he is.”

It's All Right Ma... I'm Only Bleeding!

Many thanks to Bob Dylan's great song of the same name. What rankles me is how so many of my friends, neighbors and acquaintances seem to accept how far down the rabbit hole our Amerikan society has fallen. We live under the broken umbrella of an empire that cares not to protect the overwhelming majority of us. We live under the auspices of a regime that spends half or our hard earned tax dollars on phony wars, illegal foreign occupations and excessive militarism at home. Yet, most of the lemmings I cohabit with are only concerned about tripe news on sexual scandals and other base events that have nothing to do with their health or financial well being. For every person who can profit from this insane stock market run up, there are a thousand times more folks who are lucky to afford the bare necessities of life. Many of us, even we who earn more than the median income level, still walk around with missing teeth, knees and necks in need of operative repair and so on.

We Amerikans have become like those serfs on the feudal manors, working hard and still bowing and scraping when the lord of the manor passes>>>

‘Very possible’ that N. Korea crisis can’t be resolved peacefully – Trump

It's “very possible” the standoff with North Korea might not be resolved peacefully, Donald Trump has said in an exclusive interview with Reuters, and he's not sure if the inter-Korean dialogue will lead to “anything meaningful.”

“I’d sit down, but I‘m not sure that sitting down will solve the problem,” Trump said.

“I am not sure that talks will lead to anything meaningful” since they have been going on for 25 years now.

The remarks come after Trump’s statement earlier in January, in which he said he is “absolutely” willing to talk on the phone to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un if certain conditions are met.

Tensions with Pyongyang have escalated dramatically since Trump came to power in January>>>

In Words and Deeds: The Genesis of Israeli Violence

Not a day passes without a prominent Israeli politician or intellectual making an outrageous statement against Palestinians. Many of these statements tend to garner little attention or evoke rightly deserved outrage.

Just recently, Israel’s Minister of Agriculture, Uri Ariel, called for more death and injuries on Palestinians in Gaza.

"What is this special weapon we have that we fire and see pillars of smoke and fire, but nobody gets hurt? It is time for there to be injuries and deaths as well," he said.

Ariel’s calling for the killing of more Palestinians came on the heels of other repugnant statements concerning a 16-year-old teenager girl, Ahed Tamimi.>>>

You Don’t Need a Telescope to Find a ‘S**thole Country’

***
The Chilean poet Pablo Neruda understood how those who ruled the shithole country looked at the wretched of the earth. He wrote:

When the trumpet sounded, it was
all prepared on the earth,
the Jehovah parceled out the earth
to Coca Cola, Inc., Anaconda,
Ford Motors, and other entities:
The Fruit Company, Inc.
reserved for itself the most succulent,
the central coast of my land,
the delicate waist of America.

It rechristened its territories
as the ‘Banana Republics’
and over the sleeping dead,
over the restless heroes,
who brought about the greatness, the liberty and the flags,
it established the comic opera:
Abolished independencies,
presented crowns of Caesar,
unsheathed envy, attracted
the dictatorship of flies. …

The dictatorship of flies had its downside. It elevated the imbecilic and the inept, men whose main attributes were brutality, mendacity and thievery.>>>

Beijing blasts ‘illegal’ US & Canada-led summit for evoking Korean War ghosts

China has criticized the US and Canada for holding a summit of nations, most of which supported Seoul during the 1950s war on the Korean Peninsula, saying evoking Cold War ghosts has no place in the world today.

The summit in Vancouver brought together foreign ministers and top officials from 20 nations, who agreed to ramp up pressure on Pyongyang through additional economic sanctions on top of those imposed by the UN Security Council. China and Russia, which both border North Korea and are major players in the ongoing crisis, were not invited.

Netanyahu, speaking to Israeli journalists in his entourage during his visit to India, also said that he supports economic relief for the Gaza Strip.

We’re Becoming Like Him

We imitate each other. It’s one of the most basic features of our humanity. Financial workers who want to be successful buy the expensive watches and go to the tailors that their highest paid bosses do. We also go out of our way to one-up each other. People who crave thrills and the dopamine hits of social-media likes risk their lives, and sometimes lose them, taking selfies on cliffs or on the edges of skyscrapers

And that’s why, when Donald Trump became president, I feared that American society at large, and the political class that felt insulted by his election, would begin to find their inner Donald. Maybe even a worse one than the one we have. I wrote:

The most immediate thing to be on guard for in the new era is the way Trump inspires both supporters and opponents to abandon their moral, ethical, and professional standards and give in to their unchecked instincts to acquire power and humiliate or denigrate their perceived enemies, usually their fellow countrymen.

Now's A Great Time To Stop Meddling In Haiti

Earlier this week, President Trump allegedly disparaged Haiti, describing it as "sh*thole." The response has been what you might expect. It's been a torrent of demands for apologies from the Trump administration and commentary on how "troubling" Donald Trump's views are.

Upon hearing of such comments supposedly directed at Haitians, a well informed person might be tempted to think "if only this were the worst thing a US president has inflicted upon the Haitian people."

But, as is typical for the American left and the mainstream media, uttering mean words is the worst thing a politician can do. Actively meddling in another country's internal affairs and undermining its elections? Well, that's no big deal — unless you're Russia, of course.

Indeed, anyone who has any familiarity at all with the history of US-Haiti relations knows that the US has a long, well-established habit of intervening in the island nation — often in a brutal manner.

US FORCING EUROPE TO ABANDON RUSSIAN GAS

US forcing Europe to abandon Russian gas & buy more expensive American LNG - Lavrov

The United States is afraid of fair competition in the energy sector, and is hampering the implementation of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"There is reprisal in the energy sector against North Stream 2. It is the US which is calling it politicized, leading to a split in Europe, and the strangling of Ukraine,” he said at a press conference on Monday.

“Washington clearly forces Europeans to abandon Nord Stream 2, despite the fact that gas deliveries to Germany via the pipeline could be 2,000km shorter than through Ukraine, and the cost of transit could be halved,” said the Russian diplomat.

Europeans “are being forced to buy much more expensive liquefied gas from the United States instead of Russian gas,” Lavrov added.

Amazing! Trump isn't allowed to rescind an executive order.I have never seen such a weak President.

DACA is back up and running, Homeland Security announced this weekend, saying President Trump’s attempt to phase out the Obama-era deportation amnesty is on hold while they fight a court case that ordered them to begin accepting applications again.

Only those among the 800,000 or so previously approved can submit applications for renewal, under the judger’s order. And those covered by DACA will no longer be granted advance parole, which had become a shortcut pathway to citizenship in the Obama administration.

But U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said it will otherwise restore DACA as it was on Sept. 5, before Mr. Trump decided on a six-month phaseout, saying the program was illegal.

Oprah’s success in her field is no more indicative of her potential to be a good president than Trump’s success in real estate was. You can’t criticize Trump for having no relevant experience or evident understanding of public policy, then say that the solution for Democrats is just to throw up their hands and find their own celebrity to promote.

House Dems Will Introduce Censure Resolution to ‘Condemn’ Trump for ‘Racist’ and ‘Bigoted’ Remarks

Two prominent House Democrats plan to introduce a censure resolution next week to “condemn” President Donald Trump for what they said were his “racist” remarks about wanting fewer immigrants from “shithole” countries.

Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), the Congressional Black Caucus Chair, and Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), the Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee, said on Friday that Trump’s “bigoted fearmongering is not acceptable and his remarks completely warrant total condemnation and censure from Congress.” They added in a statement that they were “deeply disturbed and offended” by Trump’s remarks.

Mnuchin: 'I didn't realize' Davos forum was for 'global elites'

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Friday that he was not aware that the World Economic Forum was considered a gathering of the "global elite."

"I didn't realize it was the global elite," Mnuchin said at an event in Washington. "Actually, I've looked at the list. There's an awful lot of world leaders, there's an awful lot of finance chairs, there’s an awful lot of business people."

"This is an important economic agenda," he added, arguing that the gathering in Davos, Switzerland is just like any other conferences, like the annual Group of 20 summit.

The World Economic Forum, however, carries a reputation as a gathering of wealthy executives, government officials and celebrities in a Swiss resort town, making President Trump's scheduled attendance there later this month a somewhat unexpected move.

Army Strategist Exposes The Disturbing Parallels Between US Domestic Policing & Military Tactics Abroad

“This…thing, [the War on Drugs] this ain’t police work... I mean, you call something a war and pretty soon everybody gonna be running around acting like warriors... running around on a damn crusade, storming corners, slapping on cuffs, racking up body counts.… pretty soon, damn near everybody on every corner is your fucking enemy. And soon the neighborhood that you’re supposed to be policing, that’s just occupied territory.”

Dem Support For Trump Surveillance Powers Proves “Resistance” Is Bull*hit

As we discussed previously, the US intelligence community has been aggressively demanding that congress reauthorize its Orwellian Section 702 surveillance powers, and the president has been echoing those demands. House Democrats could have forced an amendment called the USA RIGHTS Act to abridge this administration’s ability to spy on US citizens, but they did not. This same president who Democratic representatives like Adam Schiffand Eric Swalwell have been loudly claiming is a treasonous Russian agent has been granted uninhibited surveillance powers by both Schiff and Swalwell, as well as House opposition leader Nancy Pelosi. They do not believe that Trump is a Kremlin asset, and they do not oppose him.

Instead of criticizing Trump on immigration issues, we should thank him for doing his job

President Trump and his administration are being unfairly criticized for concluding that a program called Temporary Protected Status (TPS) that has allowed 200,000 citizens of El Salvador to legally remain in the U.S. since 2001 is just what its name says – temporary.

Predictably, when the Trump administration announced earlier this month that TPS for the Salvadorans would end in 2019, the left and mainstream media erupted. They contended, in effect, that the president should act without congressional authorization to make what was always intended to be a temporary program permanent.

10 Examples Proving The US Gov't is an Expert at Turning Countries into 'Shitholes'

The mainstream media's outrage over reports that President Trump referred to Haiti and El Salvador as "Shithole countries," has gone above and beyond any outrage attributed to the fact that the United States has let its Central Intelligence Agency have free reign over the governments it overthrows and the countries the U.S. invades.

As a result, the countries that have received more than their share of "freedom" from the U.S. have turned into the very definition of "shithole" countries, and have spent years attempting to recover. Here are the top 10:

7 times Trump critics called Russia a ‘s***hole’ & worse, and no one cared

Donald Trump’s remarks on “s***hole countries” roused a righteous high-mindedness in his detractors. But a perusal of their own past quotes suggest they are quite capable of similar words – when one particular state is involved.

RUSSIA TODAY: Trump’s s***hole comment encapsulates America’s perpetually racist foreign policy

Critics of US President Donald Trump were quick to point out that his alleged use of the term “s***hole countries” to describe Haiti and some African nations does not reflect what all Americans think of the rest of the world.

And they are correct. There are indeed millions of Americans who feel genuinely disgusted that their president has characterized less fortunate nations in such a way.
But Trump’s comment forces those Americans to reckon with an uncomfortable reality: There are also millions of Americans who do share the president’s sentiments. Fox News confirmed as much>>>

Kremlin accuses U.S. of anti-Russia fearmongering after State Department travel warning

Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Friday accused the U.S. State Department of cultivating “blind fear of Russia among Americans” after the department issued a travel warning this week urging U.S. citizens to reconsider visits to the country.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed the travel warning, which included terrorism and harassment as serious concerns. She referred to it as an example of what the Kremlin has said repeatedly is a growing wave of Russophobia in Washington tied to allegations that Moscow interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.

"In our opinion, this is another unsubstantiated statement, whose primary goal is to trigger another round of anti-Russian hysteria in the U.S., and to cultivate blind fear of Russia among Americans," she said during her weekly news conference.

Living under a bridge doesn't stop this homeless woman from staying positive.

A few months back I logged onto Facebook and was greeted by a smiling homeless woman's selfie in front of a tent holding up a cup of coffee. It was captioned "good morning." Today, I met Manda at her homeless encampment where she made me a cup of coffee!
Manda is an amazing woman. She is disabled from severe brain trauma, yet because she is high functioning, she falls through the gaps in the safety net. I have been working with her trying to help find a path out of homelessness, but the walls bureaucracy are impossible to break through.
For all the people that believe homeless people are lazy, I wish they could just spend an hour in Manda's shoes! She works hard to keep her tent camp clean. She works hard getting to treatment and therapy. She works hard every single day trying to survive. And she works extremely hard to stay positive while facing the madness of homelessness each and every day!
