Trump Not Tolerating Differing Opinions, Fires Gen. Mattis

Retired US Navy Commander, Leah Bolger, says even though Gen. Mattis seems to have resigned, from the military perspective it is clear that he was fired from the administration.
In an exclusive interview with FNA, Leah Bolger said “Trump surrounds himself with Yes-men, and does not tolerate differing opinions” which is enough to “fire Gen. Mattis” after his disagreement with withdrawing US troops from Syria and Afghanistan.

Former US Secretary of Defense, before his resignation, had voiced his disagreement with some other Trump’s policies, including the US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (Iran Nuclear Deal) and withdrawal from the Paris Accord concerning climate change.

Leah Bolger retired from the US Navy at the rank of Commander after twenty years of active duty service. After retirement, she started her peace activities. She is the creator and coordinator of the “Drones Quilt Project” which serves to recognize the victims of US combat drones and educate people. Currently she serves as the Chair of the Coordinating Committee of World Beyond War.

US Sends More Military Convoys to Eastern Syria to Reinforce Military Bases Despite Trump's Pullout Call

The US Army continued reinforcing military bases under its control in Eastern Syria despite US President Donald Trump's declared decision for a pullout of Syria.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) quoted informed sources as saying that a US military convoy comprising 100 military vehicles has entered Syria via the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

It noted that the US military convoy also contained military and logistic equipment and has been sent to the US-led coalition bases in Eastern Euphrates region.

The source reiterated that the fortification of the US military bases in Eastern Syria is still continuing after Trump's decision to pull out forces from Syria.

Erdogan, Trump consider setting up 'security zone' in Syria

Two leaders discuss situation in Syria over the phone amid growing tensions over the fate of US-allied Kurdish fighters.

The conversation on Monday came a day after Trump threatened on Twitter that he would "devastate" Turkey's economy if its forces attacked the US-backed Kurdish fighters, who helped Washington in its fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group.

The war of words between the two NATO allies is the latest consequence of Trump's surprising decision last month to withdraw US troops from northern Syria, potentially leaving the Kurdish militia under threat as Ankara weighs a new offensive there.

US warns Turkey of economic 'devastation' if it hits Kurd forces

Threat by Trump draws response from Ankara telling Washington not to conflate Syrian Kurds with 'terrorist groups'.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to "devastate" Turkey's economy if it carries out a military offensive against Kurdish fighters in Syria, drawing a response from Ankara which warned Washington against "shadowing" the country's strategic partnership with "terrorist propaganda".

Trump's threat on Sunday came amid tensions between the United States and Turkey over the fate of Washington's Syrian Kurdish allies in the fight against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, ISIS) following his announcement last month that he plans to withdraw US forces from Syria.

"Starting the long overdue pullout from Syria while hitting the little remaining ISIS territorial caliphate hard, and from many directions," Trump wrote on Twitter, referring to ISIL.

"Will attack again from existing nearby base if it reforms. Will devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds," he added, while pushing for the creation of a 30km "safe zone

Petition to declare George Soros a terrorist reaches threshold for White House response

A petition calling for President Trump to declare liberal billionaire George Soros a terrorist and seize the assets of organizations tied to him has reached the threshold that requires a response from the White House.

The petition, which needed 100,000 signatures by Sept. 19, had almost 140,000 signatures as of Tuesday morning.

"Whereas George Soros has willfully and on an ongoing basis attempted to destabilize and otherwise commit acts of sedition against the United States and its citizens … The US Federal government, the DOJ should immediately declare George Soros and all of his organizations and staff members to be domestic terrorists, and have all of his personal an organizational wealth and assets seized under Civil Asset Forfeiture law," the petition by E.B. reads.

Soros, who donated millions to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, said in January that Trump "is going to fail as president."

Lindsey Graham: ‘Astonishing’ Trump Investigated as Russian Agent — ‘How Could the FBI Do That?’

On this weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) commented on a New York Times report that the FBI opened an investigation into President Donald Trump after he fired FBI Director James Comey.

Graham said, “Number one, that story came from somebody who leaked it with an agenda, so I’d like to know who leaked it because they have an agenda not very friendly to President Trump, and I, for one, don’t trust what I read in The New York Times.”

He added, “I’m going to ask the FBI director, ‘Was there a counterintelligence investigation opened up regarding the president as being a potential agent of the Russians?’ I find it astonishing, and to me, it tells me a lot about the people running the FBI, McCabe and that crowd. I don’t trust them as far as I can throw them. If this really did happen, Congress needs to know about it. And what I want to do is make sure, how could the FBI do that? What kind of checks and balances are there?”

What Trump’s Syrian Withdrawal Really Reveals

President Trump was wrong in asserting that the United States destroyed the Islamic State’s territorial statehood in a large part of Syria—Russia and its allies accomplished that—but he is right in proposing to withdraw some 2,000 American forces from that tragically war-ravaged country. The small American contingent serves no positive combat or strategic purpose unless it is to thwart the Russian-led peace negotiations now underway or to serve as a beachhead for a US war against Iran. Still worse, its presence represents a constant risk that American military personnel could be killed by Russian forces also operating in that relatively small area, thereby turning the new Cold War into a very hot conflict, even if inadvertently. Whether or not Trump understood this danger, his decision, if actually implemented—it is being fiercely resisted in Washington—will make US-Russian relations, and thus the world, somewhat safer.

Netanyahu confirms weekend strike on 'Iranian weapons' in Syria

Syrian state media reported on Sunday one missile fired towards Damascus struck a warehouse at the city's airport.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel carried out an air raid on Iranian weapons in Syria over the weekend, a rare public confirmation of such attacks.

"Just in the last 36 hours the air force attacked Iranian warehouses containing Iranian weapons in the Damascus international airport," Netanyahu said on Sunday at the start of a cabinet meeting, according to his office.

"The accumulation of recent attacks shows that we're more determined than ever to act against Iran in Syria, just as we promised," the prime minister's office said.

Syrian state media reported on Sunday that Israeli warplanes fired a number of missiles towards Damascus, with one striking a warehouse at the airport. The raids triggered Syrian air defence to shoot down most of them.

It’s Splitsville for Trump and His Generals

Devoid of prior experience in either government or the military, Trump radically misconstrued the role of commander-in-chief. The title itself is a grand one, suggesting that the bearer makes decisions (Remember George W. Bush: “I am the decider.”), to which subordinates respond by briskly saluting, making an about face, and marching off to do precisely what they’ve been told to do.

As Trump has discovered, very much to his frustration, that’s not the way the civil-military relationship actually works. While enthusiasm may greet some presidential national security-related actions—calls to increase military spending, for example—others can induce resistance. Smart presidents minimize resistance by making sure that senior officers are onboard before announcing a decision. Less smart presidents—recall, for example, Bill Clinton’s abortive efforts to allow gays to serve openly in the armed forces— find themselves obliged to back down.

President Donald J. Trump, much to his credit, does not frequent bars, as he admittedly does not drink alcohol. But in listening again to bad advice from establishment Republicans by nominating former George H.W. And, with the forced impending resignation of Sessions’ Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, just when it looked like the president was extricating himself from the swamp, he has fallen back into its dark and murky waters.

Mideast Fact Meets Fiction: Mike Pompeo Touts US Goodness and Threatens More of It
Pompeo’s speech seems to have been a not-so-subtle means of putting the entire Mideast region and world on notice that the U.S. is poised to initiate a new era of military intervention in the Middle East in order to “liberate” nations that continue to resist U.S. influence and regional hegemony.

During a speech given Thursday at Cairo’s American University, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered remarks that some analysts have likened to a mix of evangelism and historical revisionism regarding the U.S.’ historical role in Middle Eastern and Northern African affairs.

Pompeo began his speech by stating:

"It’s the truth, lower-case ‘t’, that I’m here to talk about today. It is a truth that isn’t often spoken in this part of the world, but because I’m a military man by training, I’ll be very blunt and direct today: America is a force for good in the Middle East.”

Prior to his speech, at an earlier press conference, Pompeo made a similarly jarring characterization of U.S. involvement in the Middle East, stating:

America has always been a liberating force, not an occupying power, in the Middle East. We’ve never dreamed of domination....”

DNC Chair Won't Say 'What Changed' From 2006 or 2013 When Dems Voted for Border Security

On Wednesday morning, Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked DNC Chair Tom Perez "what changed" to convince Democrats who voted for increased border security in 2006 and 2013 to resolutely oppose President Donald Trump on a wall now. Perez did not answer the question, and attempted to combat the idea that the difference has more to do with personality than policy.

"You passed a lot of bills. [In] 2013, [Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)] voted for more border security. [Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)] voted for more border security. [Sen. The White House is reportedly seriously considering legal options and rationale should President Trump declare a national emergency to construct a border wall.

The United States has maintained some degree of military presence inside Somalia for much of the last three decades, but a pattern of escalation that began late in former President Barack Obama's second term has markedly accelerated in the two years since President Donald Trump took office.

Airstrikes are on the rise; hundreds of U.S. boots are on the ground; and Trump's March 2017 decision to designate portions of Somalia as "areas of active hostility" means military operations can proceed with less oversight and greater tolerance for civilian casualties.

The shameful insubordination of John Bolton

"Don't upstage the boss" is a powerful maxim in Washington, and usually it applies to President Trump's White House. But National Security Adviser John Bolton doesn't seem to have gotten the memo.

"Bolton puts conditions on plan for withdrawal from Syria," reads one recent headline. "Contradicting Trump, Bolton says no withdrawal from Syria until ISIS destroyed, Kurds' safety guaranteed," blares another. "John Bolton says certain conditions must be met before U.S. withdraws from Syria," states a third.

Trump has been talking about U.S. troops leaving Syria for months. "We're coming out of Syria very soon," he said in March. "Let the other people take care of it now — very soon, very soon, we're coming out." By December, he'd lost his patience with those inside the government resistant to the move and abruptly announced a change in policy.

Citing a “growing humanitarian and security crisis,” the President cited an array of alarming (but true) statistics that describe the horrifying cost of illegal immigration. “Last month 20,000 migrant children were illegally brought into the United States,” the President stated, adding that those children were, “used as human pawns by ruthless gangs.”

With Golan at Stake, Netanyahu, Bolton Set Trump Straight on US Syria Withdrawal Plan

The state of Israel seems to share at least some of the responsibility for the latest shift of U.S. Syria policy — as National Security Adviser John Bolton announced on Sunday that President Donald Trump’s call to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria would now be “coordinated” with Israel, after meeting with top Israeli officials including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel’s main motivation in preventing a swift U.S. exit from Syria was also made explicit by Netanyahu, who openly stated on Twitter that Israel’s push to obtain sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights – which is internationally recognized as part of Syria – was the driving factor behind Israel’s recent efforts to dramatically slow down Trump’s plan for an “immediate” withdrawal of U.S. troops currently occupying Syrian territory illegally.

Indeed, one might well argue that there is no overriding policy at all in terms of a rational doctrine arrived at through risk versus gain analysis of developing international situations. Instead, there has been a pattern of emotional reactions fueled by media disinformation supplemented by “gut feelings” about a series of ultimately bilateral relationships that frequently have little or nothing to do with American national interests.

He added that the US forces cannot step onto Iraq's territories due to Hashd al-Sha'abi's firm opposition to their deployment.

Turkey is going on the attack against John Bolton following his weekend antics in the Middle East, which most recently included being snubbed by Erdogan in the Turkish capital. Bolton has now gone "rogue" and tried to undercut Trump's Syria pullout decision by setting his own preconditions, writes the editorial board of Turkey's most visible pro-government English language daily newspaper.

The pro-Erdogan, AKP-supporting Daily Sabah says "a soft coup against Donald Trump" is underway, but that Trump's "rogue" National Security Adviser got a "rude awakening" upon visiting Turkey yesterday:

Pelosi Slams Trump After Threat To Pull California FEMA Funds

President Trump on Wednesday announced over Twitter that he has ordered the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to stop sending money to California "unless they get their act together, which is unlikely."

"Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest fires that, with proper Forrest Management, would never happen," Trump tweeted just one day after California Governor Gavin Newsom was sworn in, adding "It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!"

Turkey asks US to hand over military bases in Syria

Ankara has asked the United States to hand over 16 of its military bases in northern Syria, which were set up for the fight against ISIL, to Turkey or local authorities in the region after the U.S. withdraws, the Turkish presidential spokesperson said after discussions with U.S. officials.

“We are pleased with [President Donald] Trump’s decision for withdrawal [from Syria], but it needs to be clarified as to what kind of structure will be left behind, what will happen to the heavy weapons that have been deployed, the fate of American military bases and logistics centers. In this meeting we discussed these in detail,” presidential spokesperson ?brahim Kal?n said on Jan. 8.

Turkey also expects the U.S. to collect the arms delivered to the YPG back, said the spokesperson, noting that the U.S. authorities informed Turkey that they were conducting a work on the issue of arms.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That must have been in the context of Trump's announcement of a withdrawal. But since that is not happening, I imagine the US will tell Erdogan to get stuffed!

FLASHBACK: 7 Democrats Who Once Endorsed Border Fence, Tougher Border Security

Prominent leaders of the Democratic Party once fiercely endorsed border security, and had even voted to secure a border fence along the nation’s southern border.

These stringent calls for tougher border policy appear to have ceased since Donald Trump took office as President of the United States.

In 2006, Senate Democrats — including then-senators Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Dianne Feinstein, and Joe Biden — voted to secure a fence along the United States southern border. Check out the instances in which prominent leaders of the Democratic Party championed the border fence and stronger border security overall.

Pelosi and Schumer get personal and blast Trump for his 'obsession' with the wall in response to prime-time speech – calling his border barrier 'cruel' and accusing him of throwing a 'temper tantrum'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer used their allotted time following President Trump's prime-time speech to rip his 'obsession' with the border wall and castigate him for throwing a tirade.

Schumer and Pelosi, who both served in office during the shutdowns of the Clinton administration where House Republicans ended up getting most of the blame, blamed the president for a 'senseless shutdown' and called the wall 'cruel' and unnecessary.

'Sadly, much of what we have heard from President Trump throughout this senseless shutdown has been full of misinformation and even malice,' said Pelosi, hitting at the president's motives from the get-go.

Donald Trump Oval Office Address: Border Security ‘A Choice Between Right and Wrong’

President Donald Trump delivered an address to the American people from the Oval Office on Tuesday, speaking about the crisis on the Southern border.

“This is a choice between right and wrong, justice and injustice,” Trump said in his eight-minute address, describing it as “a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul.”

The president detailed the ongoing migration and illegal immigration crisis but did not declare an official State of Emergency, which would allow him to shift funding to fund border security without Congress.

Trump Challenges Macron: EU Army 'Didn't Work Too Well' in WWII

Emmanuel Macron earlier voiced the idea of building a European military so that fellow EU nations could defend themselves from wide-ranging threats. The French leader subsequently came under fire from the White House, which called on him to pay his fair share of NATO membership.

Donald Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to deliver a rebuke to Emmanuel Macron, chastising the French president's ideas of a pan-European army and divisive environmental policies.

Trump scolded Macron for his proposal to create a single European army so that Europe would have a greater military autonomy. The 45th POTUS has repeatedly claimed that many NATO members have not been dishing out enough cash for the alliance's needs.

"The idea of a European Military didn't work out too well in WWI or WWII. But the US was there for you, and always will be. All we ask is that you pay your fair share of NATO," he added.

Netizens Think Trump-Macron Rapport Over After POTUS' Angry Tweet on EU Army

Last spring Donald Trump confessed that his relationship with Emmanuel Macron, who became the first foreign leader to make a state visit to the United States under 45, was indeed special. Brussels Angry After US Downgrades EU Mission's Diplomatic Status – Report

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly slammed the European Union and urged its member states to defend their national sovereignty. He also described the bloc as an American "foe" in terms of trade and blamed European countries for their low defence spending.

Brussels has voiced anger over the White House's move to quietly downgrade the diplomatic status of the European Union’s ambassador to the US in 2018, according to The Independent.

The newspaper cited an EU spokesperson as saying that Washington had not notified the bloc of the unannounced "recent change" and that officials had discussed "possible implications" for the delegation in Washington with their US counterparts.

Trump’s Neocons Reverse His Syria Withdrawal Plan

I’m starting to wonder whether President Trump has any power over US foreign policy at all. Many people believe that the US president is just a figurehead, with actual foreign policy firmly in the hands of the deep state. Trump’s latest dramatic U-turn on pulling troops from Syria certainly feeds such theories.

Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 to former president Barack Obama failed to achieve what the committee hoped it would, its ex-secretary Geir Lundestad told the Associated Press.

Mr. Lundestad wrote in his memoir, Secretary of Peace, “No Nobel Peace Prize ever elicited more attention than the 2009 prize to Barack Obama.”

He added, “Even many of Obama’s supporters believed that the prize was a mistake. In that sense the committee didn’t achieve what it had hoped for.”

John Bolton: Trump’s Foreign Policy Architect or Saboteur?

On December 19, as Christmas Day was fast approaching, Donald Trump delivered an early holiday gift to American troops stationed in Syria: pretty soon they would be packing their bags and getting out. To illustrate the point, the showman-turned-president released a video, one minute and 19 seconds long, of him in front of the White House portico proclaiming that the withdrawal was imminent. “After historic victories against ISIS, it’s time to bring our great young people home,” Trump said.

Trump tweeted on Monday that he intends to address the nation on Tuesday evening about the “humanitarian and national security crisis” on the southern border.

Reasons To Believe In Trump's Syria Withdrawal Are Vanishing

On the first of April last year I published an article titled “Ignore The Words Of US Presidents. Watch Their Actions Instead.”, about Trump’s claim that his administration would be pulling troops out of Syria “very soon”. Watching the actions and ignoring the words is a personal policy I’ve found very useful in dealing with top government figures who understand that power has nothing to do with truth and everything to do with narrative control, and in that particular case the president’s claims were quickly memory holed after a highly suspicious chemical weapons allegation in Douma a few days later. The president’s words said the troops were leaving, and what actually happened was the US bombing the Syrian government for a second time in a year while troops remained where they were.

Campbell, who served as prime minister from June to November 1993, described President Trump a “motherf**ker!” in a tweet sent before 10:00 a.m. this morning — using the same profanity-laced term as freshman congresswoman Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) in her pledge this week to impeach the president.

Trump Foreign Policy for 2019

Never before has any presidential administration been as all over the place in terms of national security and foreign policy as is that of Donald J. Trump.

President Trump Will Make Primetime Address to the Nation on Border Security

Navigating around Democrats to deliver a speech directly to the American people is a brilliant tactic by the President. It’s clear that leaders in the Party, most notably House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York Democrat Chuck Schumer, have no interest in hearing the facts. But the American people will surely be interested.

Schumer and Pelosi both ignored and rejected facts about criminality and terrorist ties at the border during a recent briefing by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Nielsen reported that border officials apprehended 17,000 criminals attempting to make unlawful entry into our country last year, including 3,000 people with terrorist ties.

That may explain why the networks do not want to carry the speech live.

To air or not to air: Networks face pressure over broadcasting Trump's immigration address

President Donald Trump’s planned prime-time address on immigration Tuesday night has put the broadcast networks in a difficult — and familiar — position as they debate whether to carry the address live.

The White House has asked the broadcast networks to set aside at least eight minutes at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday for an Oval Office address in which Trump may declare a state of national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The four major networks — NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox — have not had a consistent policy when it comes to airing presidential addresses on immigration.

They aired President George W. Bush’s prime-time address in 2006, but did not air President Barack Obama’s prime-time immigration address in 2014.

Syria - Turkey Fails In Idleb, Is Unwilling To Take The Northeast

The neoconservatives in the Trump administration, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Advisor John Bolton and the Syria envoy James Jeffery, are scrambling to save their plans for Syria that President Trump disposed of when he ordered a complete retreat.

Those plans were for a permanent U.S. occupation of northeast Syria, the reduction of Iranian influence within the government held parts of Syria and an eventual disposal of the Syrian government under President Assad through negotiations. These were unicorn aims that had no chance to ever be achieved.

Moreover Trump had never signed off on these ideas. Back in April he had announced that he wanted U.S. troops out of Syria. He gave his staff six month to achieve that. But instead of following those orders Pompeo and Bolton tried to implement their own plans:

When ‘Trashing Our Allies’ Was All the Rage

Is it blatant dishonesty or a convenient bout of amnesia? It’s hard to tell. What I do know is this: the supposed American devotion to alliances, now being celebrated by those who deem the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis as heralding the end of Western civilization, is a load of malarkey.

The canonization of Mattis as a secular saint was underway in record time. In The New York Times, David Sanger describes Mattis as “the last senior official in the administration deeply invested in the world order that the United States has led for the 73 years since World War II, and the global footprint needed to keep that order together.” Here the tradition of Marshall, Acheson, and Kennan ostensibly ends and the precipice beckons.

Has Trump Been Outmaneuvered on Syria Troop Withdrawal?

Trump’s possible backtracking on withdrawal from Syria means he may have been once again outmaneuvered by the Deep State, says Virginia State Senator Dick Black.

Following the outcry after President Donald Trump’s announcement that he was pulling U.S. troops from Syria, it appears that Trump may be succumbing to political pressure. U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) visited the White House on Dec. 30 and afterward told reporters:

“We talked about Syria. He told me some things I didn’t know that made me feel a lot better about where we’re headed in Syria,” Graham said. Trump’s withdrawal plans are “slowing down in a smart way,” Graham said, according to NBC News.

"China, China, China" - Acting US SecDef Succinctly Summarizes World's Biggest Threat

To quote Shakespeare's Henry V, "The courses of his youth promised it not." The speech was light on factual content, reflecting a speaker who was a political animal, a speech composed of platitudes and pleasantries that showed contempt for its audience because it deliberately conveyed nothing of substance.

Global tensions caused by economic sanctions and trade conflicts triggered by Washington have forced targeted countries to take a fresh look at alternative payment systems currently dominated by the US dollar.

RT has taken a deeper look into the recent phenomena of de-dollarization, summing up which countries have taken steps towards eliminating their reliance on the greenback, and the reasons behind their decision.

Video Shows Chuck Schumer Arguing a Fence Will Make Border ‘Far More Secure’

A newly resurfaced video shows anti-wall Democrat Chuck Schumer advocating for a fence along the southern border because it will be a “far more secure” means to creating a “significant barrier to illegal immigration.”

Schumer’s speech was given at the 6th Annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference at Georgetown University on June 24th, 2009. The gathering was designed to discuss U.S. immigration policies and their impacts.

Schumer, far from his pro-illegal immigration stance of today, presented what he defined as ‘seven principles’ of immigration reform that he wanted to pass.
