Trump's Establishment-Defying Plan to Exit Syria Likely to De-Escalate Conflict

President Donald Trump’s pledge to withdraw all US forces from Syria reveals his continuing determination to defy Washington’s national security establishment to scale down the war in Syria, analysts told Sputnik.

Last week, Trump said that the United States would pull its forces from Syria "very soon," but CNN reported that this decision is probably opposed by some high-ranking officials in the president's administration.

Incoming US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford have recommended that Trump not immediately withdraw troops from Syria, as the move would go against national interests, local media reported on Thursday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump has the absolutely correct idea here.

So I would like to politely ask incoming Sec State Pompeo, and Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dunford the following question: precisely whose "national interests" in Syria is served by the continuing US presence in here?!?

Because it is certainly are not those of the American people.

Is it because Israel wants regime change in Damascus, but only at the costs in American blood, and American money?!?

If in fact that is the case, I would politely suggest that the Israeli military invade Syria, and just see what Russia is going to do about it; because Russia most certainly will not let such nonsense stand for very long.

'IF MY PLANE EXPLODES, ASK THE CIA’ – DUTERTE AFTER REQUESTING ARMS FROM RUSSIA & CHINA

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte isn’t ruling out that the US might be very annoyed and consider his decision to procure weapons from China and Russia a threat, after Washington refused to supply Manila with arms.
The Philippines has been seeking modern weapons and small arms to step up combat against ISIS-linked Islamists, ever since Duterte assumed office in June 2016. However, Washington’s refusal to sell assault rifles, over concerns about the country’s human rights record amid the ongoing war on drugs, has forced Duterte to seek new suppliers. Manila, which has long depended on the US for weapons, turned to China and Russia to fill the gap.

US lowering threshold for using nukes causes deepest concern – Lavrov

Russia is worried the US could respond with nuclear weapons to a wider range of circumstances and that its priorities lie in establishing “military supremacy and upsetting parity” when it comes to “strategic stability.”

“The US policy of lowering the threshold of using nuclear weapons causes the deepest concern,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the Moscow Conference on International Security. Washington’s latest Nuclear Posture Review expands a number of scenarios in which a nuclear response would be considered.

Pentagon Admits 60,000 Black Soldiers Used in Human Experiment

The U.S. Government used Black soldiers as human guinea pigs in chemical experiments during World War II, according to a new NPR report.

Around 60,000 U.S. soldiers were enlisted in a classified chemical weapons testing program in which soldiers were enclosed in gas chambers and exposed to chemicals.

“They said we were being tested to see what effect these gases would have on Black skins,” Rollins Edwards, a U.S. Army soldier during World War II told NPR.

“You had no choice. You did not know where you were going. They didn’t tell you anything,” Edwards added.

Edwards testimony in the NPR investigative report helped reveal that the experiments carried out by the U.S. Defense Department were conducted on the basis of race.

EXCL: CORNELL CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR: “NOVICHOK SO SIMPLE MANY LABS COULD DO IT”

Boris Johnson is on a hook of his own making after he was exposed as making a false claim in an interview that Porton Down chemical weapons facility had ‘categorically’ told him there was no doubt that Russia was the source of the poison used in the Salisbury attack. Porton Down’s CEO yesterday told Sky News that the facility had not identified the source.

Johnson’s embarrassment has been compounded by the revelation that the Foreign Office (FCO) – which initially dismissed Johnson’s falsehood by saying he ‘misspoke – had also tweeted the claim. The FCO deleted that tweet yesterday when Porton Down’s admission was garnering attention.

The Establishment machine has kicked in to try to exonerate Johnson, with the BBC editing video to make Johnson’s lie less obvious and claiming that it can’t find footage it has only just shown.

US Approves $1.3bln Artillery Sale to Saudi Arabia

The US State Department said Thursday that it has approved to sell about 1.3 billion US dollars in artillery to Saudi Arabia.
The sale package contained about 180 Paladin medium self-propelled howitzer systems, according to a statement released by the State Department, Xinhua reported, adding that the artillery-firing vehicles launch 155mm shells.

The move came as visiting Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was wrapping up his weeks-long trip in the United States.

US President Donald Trump, during his meeting with Salman at the White House on March 20, touted multi-billion-US-dollar defense sale to Saudi Arabia.

Coming Attraction: Lunatic Loose in West Wing

John Bolton’s March 22 appointment-by-tweet as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser has given “March Madness” a new and ominous meaning. There is less than a week left to batten down the hatches before Bolton makes U.S. foreign policy worse that it already is.

During a recent interview with The Intercept’s Jeremy Scahill (minutes 35 to 51) I mentioned that Bolton fits seamlessly into a group of take-no-prisoners zealots once widely known in Washington circles as “the crazies,” and now more commonly referred to as “neocons.”

The world is on the brink of 'the last war in the history of mankind', warns Russian ex-general, as tensions between Putin and the West intensify amid fallout over Salisbury spy poisoning

A Russian former general has warned the world is on the brink of 'the last war in the history of mankind' amid the diplomatic fallout over the poisoning of a UK spy.

Evgeny Buzhinskiy, who served 41 years in the Russian military, said expelling diplomats from the EU and US after Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned in Salisbury is creating a situation which is 'worse than the Cold War'.

Asked to explain himself, Mr Buzhinskiy added: 'A real war. Worse than the Cold War is a real war. It will be the last war in the history of mankind.'

OPCW will provide Russia with findings on Skripal case only if UK shows ‘goodwill’

OPCW said it can provide Moscow with data on the Skripal case only if the UK shows “goodwill,” says Russia’s permanent representative to the chemical weapons watchdog. London, however, is not expected to do so, the official said.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has refused to provide Russia with any facts on the investigation into the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter, permanent representative to the organization Aleksandr Shulgin said.

Any data can be provided only if the UK shows “goodwill” on the matter, which, however, is unlikely, given London’s behavior, Shulgin said.

He further called for an increase in international action aimed at protecting global peace and security in the face of the nuclear arms race.

Hollywood Has No Idea How Nukes Work

Nothing offers more drama than the ticking countdown to a devastating bomb, and the bigger the bomb, the bigger the thrills. That's why nuclear weapons often show up in cinema as the ultimate threat to our heroes—and humanity.

You wouldn't expect the movies to depict nuclear weapons with perfect realism, but some blockbusters do a much better job than others. Here’s a guide that separates the good from the useless when it comes to fictional treatments of nukes.

Art of the Arms Deal: Trump Is Peddling Arms as If There Were No Tomorrow

It’s one of those stories of the century that somehow never gets treated that way. For an astounding 25 of the past 26 years, the United States has been the leading arms dealer on the planet, at some moments in near monopolistic fashion. Its major weapons-producers, including Boeing, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin, regularly pour the latest in high-tech arms and munitions into the most explosive areas of the planet with ample assistance from the Pentagon. In recent years, the bulk of those arms have gone to the Greater Middle East. Donald Trump is only the latest American president to preside over a global arms sales bonanza
With remarkable enthusiasm, he’s appointed himself America’s number one weapons salesman and he couldn’t be prouder of the job he’s doing.

FLASHBACK - Lawsuit says US aid to Israel illegal under 1976 law

American aid to Israel is illegal under a decades-old law that prohibits aid to nuclear powers that have not signed the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), according to a lawsuit filed in federal court in Washington, DC.

The lawsuit, filed this week by Grant Smith, the director of the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy, comes as the US and Israel have closed many of the gaps in negotiations over a new 10-year military aid package worth tens of billions of dollars.

Discussing the lawsuit in an interview with Court House News, Smith said the US has provided Israel an estimated $234 billion in foreign assistance since Congress passed the International Security Assistance and Arms Export Control Act in 1976, which bans aid to non-signatories of the NPT that posses nuclear weapons.

Israel Deploys Tear-Gas Drones On Gaza Protesters

Just last week, we highlighted dramatic new footage showing Israeli forces using a weaponized unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) against a Hamas rally in the Gaza Strip, according to the Times of Israel.

The UAV is seen flying through the skies above hundreds of protestors, while operators of the aircraft drop chemical weapons into the crowd. The Times of Israel states that the UAV released tear gas, formally known as a lachrymator agent, which causes severe eye and respiratory pain, skin inflammation, bleeding, and even blindness.

Israeli Border Police Deputy Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai, the government official behind the deployment of the weaponized unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), told Hadashot TV news that the tear gas drone provides security forces with an extended range to hurl chemical weapons at protestors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Salisbury Incident Report: Hard Evidence For Soft Minds

The UK government’s presentation on the Salisbury incident, which was repeatedly cited in recent days as an “ultimate proof” of Russia’s involvement into Skripal’s assassination attempt, was made public earlier today.

This 6-paged PDF is a powerful evidence of another intellectual low of British propaganda machine. Open it and you can tell that substantially it makes only two assertions on the Skripal case, and both are false:

First. Novichok is a group of agents developed only by Russia and not declared under the CWC” – a false statement. Novichok was originally developed in the USSR (Nukus Lab, today in Uzbekistan, site completely decommissioned according to the US-Uzbekistan agreement by 2002). One of its key developers, Vil Mirzayanov, defected to the United States in 1990s, its chemical formula and technology were openly published in a number of chemical journals outside Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was done to accuse Russia for a crime the Russian government, most likely, did not commit; with his election coming up, and the world cup, there was no logical reason for Putin to have done it.

The accusation is almost done in Code Napoleon fashion, meaning that Russia has been considered guilty until proven innocent, and there is no way it is being allowed to prove its innocence in this act; the British government is refusing to send a sample of the poison to the Kremlin for analysis at all.

Britain's Prime Minister May is under a lot of heat for mishandling the Brexit, and perhaps she and her advisors thought that this could be a great distraction; it isn't working at all for thinking people in the UK and beyond.

So what Prime Minister May has been left with is an accusation from which her government cannot walk back, plus support from the US in demonizing Russia.

The expulsion of Russian diplomats, even ones with credentials at the UN, cannot be seen as anything but a prelude to war against it.

I am certain the Russian government and military are taking steps to insure their defense against a stupid, unnecessary war by the US, the UK, and NATO.

And as witnessed by Russia's test of it's new ICBM weapon today, I am very concerned that the West will find itself far more militarily vulnerable than it had previously believed itself to be. And again, from zerohedge.com, we have the following story this morning:

Dahr Jamail | For Bolton, the Slaughter of 1 Million Iraqis Is a Job Qualification

The illegal 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq has, thus far, left approximately 1 million Iraqis dead. That is roughly 5 percent of the total population of that country.

If a foreign military superpower invaded and occupied the US and annihilated 5 percent of the total population here, that would be 16,300,000 dead US citizens.

President Donald Trump's incoming national security adviser, John Bolton, still thinks the mass destruction of Iraq was a good idea.

"We are confident that Saddam Hussein has hidden weapons of mass destruction [WMDs] and production facilities in Iraq," Bolton said in 2002 while he served as President George W. Bush's under secretary of state for arms control and international security. He did everything he could to prompt the launch of the US invasion -- under the pretext of WMDs that never existed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please: hiring a known war criminal is never, ever a great idea.

And if EVER, the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America ever needed a Department of Peace, to come up with non-martial ways to achieve its geopolitical agendas, the time is right the hell now.

US Pledges Record $705 Million to Israel for Missile Defense Systems: Funding follows embarrassing $1 million Iron Dome error

The US gives Israel record military aid annually, and that aid is always growing. One of the biggest avenues for growth is funding for Israel’s missile defense systems. This year, Congress has committed $705 million to this scheme, up from just about $550 million last year.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman issued a statement of thanks to the US Congress for the funding, saying that Israel’s enemies would be “surprised” at how good the missile defense systems work with all this money.

While US officials have often emphasized the money going to longer-range missile defense for Israel, in practice much of the money goes to extremely short-range Iron Dome system, which is useful primarily for shooting down the makeshift rockets from the Gaza Strip.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To every (alleged) Congressional Representative who voted for this; please move to Israel and run for the Knesset.

You are far more concerned about this country than you are about your alleged constituents; and as long as there is one homeless Vet sleeping rough in our streets; as long as there is one child who graduates illiterate and innumerate from our failing public schools; and as long as the infrastructure in this country keeps crumbling, you are absolutely no friend of we the people.

US citizens are constantly told that government, at every level, doesn't have the money to fix that which is broken in this country; yet, you have decided that Israel's defense, TO THE TUNE OF $705 MILLION, is a far greater priority than the condition in which your own citizens find themselves, through no fault of their own.

What is wrong with this picture?!?

EVERYTHING!!

And every single Congressional Representative who voted for this, should be shown the door at the next possible election.

"If You Want An Arms Race, We Can Do That" - Trump Challenged Putin During Phone Call

But once again, an NBC News report shows that there's more to one-sided stories like a report in the Washington Post claiming that Trump congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his recent electoral victory against the explicit advice of Trump's foreign policy advisors.

As it turns out, during the same conversation, President Trump didn't hesitate to challenge Putin to an arms race, and boasted that the US would almost inevitably win.

Webmaster's Commentary:

....To which Putin responded by launching a test of Russia's new ICBM weapon yet again today.

Russia tests its new nuclear ICBM

President Trump, do you remember that old country song "You've got to know when to hold 'em" ?!? This is a moment when your silence on the issue of weapons parity would have been golden.

Yes, I know, you just couldn't help yourself from mouthing off, but should have; and with the Russian ICBM test today, you saw the result of your not being able to help yourself.

I would like to hope that this was a "teachable moment" for you; unfortunately, given your character, I doubt like hell that it was.

We are behind in weaponry, because the corporate culture of the military/industrial complex, which donates obscene amounts of money, both covertly, and overtly to both parties, is such that its leadership collectively, and consistently, believes it can offer shoddy product, late, and over budget, and that because of these contributions to both parties, this is perfectly fine.

In every present and future contract, it needs to be stipulated that if product doesn't work as promised, is late, or creates huge on cost overruns, that the leadership of the company will go to prison, and for hard time, for allowing this to happen; fines, Mr. President, are not enough.

Not making this happen by our weapons industry, is a form of "soft treason" against the US government and our military, Mr. President.

And the second thing which has to happen is, no more money should be accepted by political candidates from the military industrial complex, and that has to be written into law.

At the time of Putin’s announcement, the Pentagon said it was “not surprised” by the report and assured the public that it is “fully prepared” to respond to such a threat.

“We don't have any defense that could deny the employment of such a weapon against us, so our response would be our deterrent force, which would be the triad and the nuclear capabilities that we have to respond to such a threat,” Hyten told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

US-Made Missile Defenses Spectacularly Failed in Saudi Arabia

At least five American-made Patriot missiles apparently missed, malfunctioned, or otherwise failed when Saudi forces tried to intercept a barrage of rockets targeting Riyadh on March 25.

Who Is John Bolton And Why Did President Trump Appoint Him National Security Advisor?

To many observers, the appointment of John Bolton as national security advisor is the functional equivalent of appointing the Anti-Christ–or maybe worse. Indeed, these observers would, when comparing the two, find grudging favor with the Anti-Christ.

Bolton is a founding member of the neoliberal, neoconservative, neo-colonial interventionist Globalist wing of the Deep State. The antipathy he inspires is partly due to the enjoyment he takes in wielding power. (Note that the Anti-Christ is not a victim–he enjoys being the Anti-Christ.)

Saudi Arabia Threatens Iran, Blaming Them for Yemeni Missiles

With Saudi airstrikes pounding northern Yemen, killing civilians left and right, their options for “retaliating” against Yemen for firing missiles into Saudi territory are limited. Saudi officials aren’t concerned, however, as they’re threatening to attack Iran over he missiles instead.

Saudi officials reported seven Yemeni missiles intercepted overnight, with debris from one of the missiles hitting a house and killing an Egyptian laborer. Saudi officials claim the missiles came from Iran, and that they have a “right” to respond militarily against Iran in the future.

The Shi’ite Houthis, who control northern Yemen, deny close ties to Iran, and have insisted in the past that missiles fired at Saudi Arabia are part of Yemen’s pre-war stockpile, and retaliation for Saudi airstrikes. Though the Saudis targeted some missile caches early in the invasion of Yemen, some missiles are known to have survived, and have been fired during the fighting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is completely insane, as the Saudi military cannot believe for a moment that they could last against Iran militarily, should they decide on a direct hit against it.

And one of the phone calls The BOY (Butcher of Yemen, AKA Prince Mohammed Bin Salman) needs to make before he decides to attack Iran, is very much to Russia's President Putin, to see if he can get him on the same page here, regarding his need to haul off against Iran.

I would doubt that the response to such a threat against Iran is going to be very warm and fuzzy, on Putin's part.

Without this, Russia may well look at a Saudi attack against Iran to be an attack against Russia, as Russian politicians and military personnel have consistently stated that should Iran be attacked militarily, it will come to Iran's aid.

Beijing Sold Islamabad Sophisticated Missile Tech

The Chinese Academy of Sciences recently announced the sale of ballistic missile tracking technology to Pakistan.

The equipment is touted as a sophisticated optical monitoring system capable of collecting useful data and glean better insight into ballistic missile tests. The South China Morning Post reported last week that the equipment would accelerate Islamabad's development of multi-warhead ballistic missiles.

Particularly, the equipment includes cameras capable of tracking multiple warheads simultaneously, the Diplomat notes, which could be especially helpful for Pakistan's first MIRV-capable missile. Multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) capability was recently tested on China's DF-41 missile, which can carry up to ten warheads.

What happened to the West I was born in?!

Frankly, I am awed, amazed and even embarrassed. I was born in Switzerland, lived most of my life there, I also visited most of Europe, and I lived in the USA for over 20 years. Yet in my worst nightmares I could not have imagined the West sinking as low as it does now. I mean, yes, I know about the false flags, the corruption, the colonial wars, the NATO lies, the abject subservience of East Europeans, etc. I wrote about all that many times. But imperfect as they were, and that is putting it mildly, I remember Helmut Schmidt, Maggie Thatcher, Reagan, Mitterrand, even Chirac! And I remember what the Canard Enchaîné used to be, or even the BBC. During the Cold War the West was hardly a knight in white shining armor, but still – rule of law did matter, as did at least some degree of critical thinking.

I am now deeply embarrassed for the West. And very, very afraid.

Neocons Are Back With a Big War Budget and Big War Plans

On Friday, President Trump signed the omnibus spending bill for 2018. The $1.3 trillion bill was so monstrous that it would have made the biggest spender in the Obama Administration blush. The image of leading Congressional Democrats Pelosi and Schumer grinning and gloating over getting everything they wanted – and then some – will likely come back to haunt Republicans at the midterm elections. If so, they will deserve it.

Even President Trump admitted the bill was horrible. As he said in the signing ceremony, “there are a lot of things that we shouldn’t have had in this bill, but we were, in a sense, forced – if we want to build our military…”

This is why I often say: forget about needing a third political party – we need a second political party! Trump is admitting that to fuel the warfare state and enrich the military-industrial complex, it was necessary to dump endless tax dollars into the welfare state.

Virginia Senator Black: US’s Syria Campaign Is A Disgrace

Several weeks ago, NATO powers warned that Syria was going to use poison gas against East Ghouta—site of a massive, ongoing battle between Western-backed terrorists and the Syrian Army. [1]

The West knew full-well that terrorists in East Ghouta had all the necessary chemicals in place to stage a false-flag attack that the West could blame on the Syrian Army. This ploy has been used repeatedly by the CIA, British MI-6, and Turkish MIT throughout the Syrian War. Unfortunately for them, the Syrian Army advanced so fast that they overran the Sarin gas laboratory and captured it before the terrorists could execute their assigned plans.

‘No way’ nerve agent could escape UK lab? Russia demands info on Porton Down toxin research

Porton Down lab claims no toxins could have escaped it’s “four walls,” but has never denied the possession of the nerve agent used on the Skripals, the Russian Embassy said, urging the UK to disclose its chemical warfare program.

The origin of the mysterious nerve agent, used on March 4 to poison former Russian double-agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, has been the main point of contention in the unraveling international scandal. While Britain claims that the alleged A-234 nerve agent – also known as Novichok – was a Soviet development and thus could only have been used by Russia, Moscow contends that the chemical has since been studied by numerous parties and could have been re-engineered elsewhere, including in the UK itself.

Calling for Arms Talks with Russia, Is the U.S. Raising a White Flag?

Vladimir Putin’s presentation of Russia’s new weapons systems during his address to the Federal Assembly on March 1 seems to have finally elicited the desired response from its target audience in Washington, D.C. In that presentation, Putin spoke about strategic weapons systems employing cutting-edge technology that, he claimed, is more than a decade ahead of U.S. and other competition.

He scored a direct hit in the Pentagon, where senior generals were left dumbfounded. But, as is normally the case, when these gentlemen need time to collect their wits, we heard first only denial: that the Russians were bluffing, that they really have nothing ready, that these are only projects, and that the U.S. already has all of the same, but is holding it back in reserve.

Of course, not everyone among the U.S. political elite bought into this stop-gap response.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This does give one just the slightest hint of hope in a return to a more enlightend US/Russia relationship; but I will believe those talks will bear fruit when I see it.

Neocon Takeover of Washington Completed

Pompeo at State and Bolton as Trump’s national security advisor completed the neocon takeover of Trump’s geopolitical agenda – Wall Street running domestic affairs.

The combination represents a major setback for world peace and stability, greater aggression likely, along with the triumph of neoliberal harshness over social justice – a dismal and frightening state of affairs.

What to expect ahead? War in Syria is more likely to escalate than wind down, an unthinkable US/Russia confrontation ominously possible.

The Iran nuclear deal is either doomed, or likely to be gutted by Washington, accomplishing the same thing – with only tepid, ineffective opposition from P5+1 countries Britain, France and Germany.

The EU most often bends to US will when enough pressure is applied.

A relatively quiet Ukraine period could explode in greater Kiev war on Donbass, US-supplied heavy weapons and training aiding its aggression.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At this defining moment in world history, I despair about the current trajectory of both domestic, and foreign policies, creating more income inequality at home, and more wars abroad.

And the worst thing about these coming wars is, that they may not be wars the US military is able to win, or from which it can extricate itself gracefully.

You can nearly bet on a return to the draft, which will be coming for both our young men and young women, but of course, not in an election ior mid-term election year.

Video: Israeli police destroy Palestinian tombstones in Jerusalem cemetery

Due to the fact that many slain Palestinians were buried in al-Mujahidin cemetery, it became a place where Palestinians from Jerusalem, and those visiting from the West Bank and elsewhere, would visit to pay their respects.

The tombstones of the slain Palestinians were engraved about a year-and-a-half ago with a verse from the Quran and the sentence “graves of heroic martyrs of the Intifada of Jerusalem.” Israeli authorities objected to the use of the word “hero,” and demanded the cemetery administration removed the new addition.

After the administration refused, the Israeli officers broke in in the middle of the night and destroyed the tombstones with hammers and other hand tools.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hammers and other hand tools became "weapons of mass destruction", in the hands of IDF officers who objected to how the Palestinians saw their recent history at Israeli hands.

Because to the Israeli mind set, if they don't like how the Palestinians see their recent history, they believe that they have every, perfect right to destroy those cultural elements to which they object; even...tombstones.

UK's Porton Down denies it could have been source of nerve agent that poisoned ex-spy

Britain's military research facility at Porton Down said it could not have been the source of the nerve agent that poisoned Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the city of Salisbury this month, the BBC reported on Friday.

The BBC quoted Porton Down Chief Executive Gary Aitkenhead as saying there was "no way" the substance could have come from its laboratories as Russia has suggested.

He said the laboratory had the "highest levels" of controls and security, the BBC said.

Russia denies any involvement in the attack on the pair who have been critical in hospital since they were found unconscious on March 4 on a bench in Salisbury.

Russia's EU ambassador Vladimir Chizhov noted in an interview with the BBC earlier this week that the Porton Down lab is only eight miles (11km) from Salisbury, insinuating that may have been the source

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Porton Down Chief Executive Gary Aitkenhead is making this statement, one has to wonder then, if its leadership was given orders from the highest level of the British government to make this happen, as something to be blamed on Russia.

And of course, one has to recall Porton Down's egregious history, when it came to experiments on human beings:

There are also examples of government-run research that took advantage of the vulnerability of the subjects to ensure their participation and which resulted in the subjects experiencing severe harms, such as the Tuskegee Syphilis trials or the UK-run Porton Down chemical experiments in which 11,000 military personnel were exposed to mustard and nerve gas between 1939 and 1989.

Wait, am I reading this correctly?!? 11,000 guys were exposed at Porton Down to these chemicals?!?

Mengele would have been so proud!!

So NO, Porton Down Chief Executive Gary Aitkenhead; morally "squeaky clean", and the institution you represent are mutually exclusive, and for damned good historical reason.

And the question no one is asking is, why would Putin do this, so many years after the damage had been done to Russian intelligence?!?

The short answer is, he wouldn't; Prime Minister Theresa May is playing this for all it's worth, because Brexit is falling apart at the seams, and she is desperate for a distraction.

I can tell you, Prime Minister May, this is absolutely not working.

The death toll is expected to rise, with hospital sources telling Al Jazeera that a number of wounded people were in serious condition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Take a good look at that kid in this image, bleeding out, as an older adult scrambles to get him care; looking at the paucity of medical care here, the kid just may not make it.

Welcome to the world of another young victim of the US/NATO occupation of Afghanistan, 17 years on.

And as someone who loves kids, and believes all kids should have a decent future, I cannot look at this child, and begin to use the word "collateral damage" with a straight face.

What the Trump admininstration and NATO should be doing right now, because there is absolutely no military metric by which either can say that the US has "won" in Afghanistan, is to have troops leave as safely as possible, then negotiate with whatever government is left in Kabul for the pipeline rights, and the opium field rights.

But of course, that.... would be logical.

Illegal Wars: The New American Way

The U.S. military stands astride the Greater Mideast region on behalf of an increasingly rogue-like regime in Washington, D.C. Worse still, this isn’t a Donald Trump problem, per se. No, three successive administrations – Democratic and Republican – have widened the scope of a global “war” on a tactic (terror), on the basis of two at best vague, and at worst extralegal, congressional authorizations for the use of force (AUMF). Indeed, the US is veritably addicted to waging undeclared, unwinnable wars with unconvincing legal sanction.

Majority of $1.3 Trillion US Omnibus Spending Bill Goes to Military

The last minute signing of the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill in the US is a big windfall for the Pentagon, who will be getting the majority of the money, in the realm of $700 billion. This includes 14 new ships, 28 new helicopters, and 56 of the costly F-35 warplanes. This $700 billion does not include other military-related spending, including the VA.

This is part of a $61 billion spending increase over the previous year, and virtually every aspect of the Pentagon is getting more money, more equipment, higher pay, and just general boosts in funding. Which isn’t to say everyone’s happy.

Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), the House Armed Services Committee chairman, complained that the massive increase is “not enough to fix our problems. Though the military budget is tentatively to swell to $716 next year, policy-makers seem to be setting the stage for another multi-month round of outdoing one another on increases.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You cannot simply throw more money at the problem, which is little to no oversight of weapons manufacturers' programs, from concept to execution, and expect the problems here to magically go away.

In Russia and China, these governments are getting far better outcomes to their weaponry manufacturing for far less money than for the US government is spending.

As we have seen with Russia's campaign in Syria, Russian weapons work as advertised; they field test brilliantly; and the cost overruns are far less than we have here in the US.

But in every weapons procurement contract from henceforward, the executives of weapons manufacturing companies have to understand that if their product does not test out as advertised; if they are delivered far too late to be of real help, and have come with stiff over-rides on costs, someone is going to jail, because not doing this is a form of treason against our military, things will not change in the military/industrial complex culture.

And very unfortunately, because weapons companies are allowed to contribute lavishly to both sides of the aisle in this country, both overtly and covertly, this corporate culture in this industry will not change until pigs discover they are aerodynamic in nature.

This has to be stopped, but those congressional representatives feeding at the collective teat of these companies, will never want these practices to end.

US Can't Stop Hypersonic Weapons, Air Force General Says

March 21, 2018 "Information Clearing House" - Missiles that spit out warheads traveling up to 20 times the speed of sound and with the ability to perform elusive acrobatics may be too much for U.S. defenses to block.

That's according to the head of the U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Gen. John Hyten, who testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee yesterday (March 20).

When asked by Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., what kind of defenses the U.S. has against hypersonic weapons, Hyten replied: "We have a very difficult — well, our defense is our deterrent capability. We don't have any defense that could deny the employment of such a weapon against us, so our response would be our deterrent force, which would be the triad and the nuclear capabilities that we have to respond to such a threat,"

Assessing Russia's Military Strength

There is a popular point of view in some of Russia’s political circles, especially among those who profess monarchist views and cling to a famous meme of 1913 Tsarist Russia development statistics, that WW I was started by Germany to forestall Russia’s industrial development which would inevitably challenge Germany’s plans on domination of Europe. A somewhat similar argument could be made for the WW II, but, in general, preventive wars are nothing new in human history. While “preventive” argument may or may not be a valid one regarding WW I, there is no doubt that it could be used, among others, when explaining the origins of a war.

Flashback: Russia destroys last Cold War-era chemical weapons

Russia completed dismantling its Cold War-era chemical weapons arsenal on Wednesday, according to Russian officials and the head of the international chemical weapons watchdog.

Flashback: Russia Becomes First Country To Destroy All Of Its Chemical Weapons

Russia has become the first country in the world to destroy all of its chemical weapons, with the very last of its cache set to be destroyed by the end of 2017.

According to the head of Russia’s Federal Administration for the Safe Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons, Major General Valery Kapashin, only one percent of Russia’s chemical weapons stockpile is left to be destroyed.

Some “99 percent of the chemical weapons stored in Russia have been destroyed,” Major Kapashin said.

Rt.com reports: The remaining 400 tons of weaponized chemicals is currently “at the last facility in operation to store and destroy the chemical weapons, in the Kizner village in the Udmurt region,” Kapashin added.

Consequently, Russia meets the conditions stipulated in the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which it joined 20 years ago.

Chemical weapons expert says nerve agent used to poison Russian spy could not have been smuggled in his daughter's bag as it would have ‘killed hundreds on the plane’

The poisoning happened a few miles from the government's research laboratory at Porton Down, he said.

'Seventeen years ago in the same small town of Salisbury, where Skripal was poisoned, under mysterious circumstances, another Russian defector, biologist Vladimir Pasechnik was killed,' he said.

'The deaths of local, British scientists are taking place there with a frightening frequency.'

He did not give examples but tarred Skripal with smuggling chemical weapons.

'Perhaps he needed money, and given his past in the secret services, he somehow participated in the smuggling of chemical weapons?

'This version cannot be excluded. At the very least, it explains why traces of the warfare agent were found not only in the restaurant, but also at Skripal's house, on his things.'

US SENATE WARNS RUSSIA OF SANCTIONS IF S-400 SOLD TO ANY FOREIGN NATIONS

A group of US lawmakers led by Senator Bob Menendez told the State Department in a letter that any sale of Russian S-400 air defense system should lead to new punitive measures as stipulated in the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

“We are writing today to specifically inquire about reported negotiations between Russia and certain countries over sales of the Russian government’s S-400 air defense system and whether these reported deals could trigger mandatory CAATSA sanctions,” the letter said on Friday. “Under any circumstance, a S-400 sale would be considered a ‘significant transaction’ and we expect that any sale would result in designations.”

The lawmakers also requested that the State Department provide detailed analysis on the current status of Russian S-400 talks with China, Turkey, India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and any other country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In that last statement, Senator Menendez is definitely heading into "pot...kettle...black" territory.

Does the Senator suffer from such a bad case of SMD (selective memory disorder), that he cannot remember that in 2014, the US sponsored the coup in Ukraine which unseated the duly elected President Yanukovich, and replaced him with Western Centric Poroshenko, a gentleman most likely with family mob connections, and assassins on speed dial?!?

President Obama admitted as much, as reported from globalresearch.ca in the following article:

Obama admits that the US brokered a deal in support of regime change in Ukraine

Now, as to preventing other nations in dialogue with Russia about the S-400 weaponry, such as China, Turky, India Saudia Arabia and Qatar; the system works far better, and is a lot cheaper than anything the US has to offer.

As described in Wikipedia:

The S-400 has been described, as of 2017, as "one of the best air-defence systems currently made."

The fact that the US's military industrial complex appears to be incapable of producing anything, to date, which can best it, is not Russia's fault.

To deny these countries access to it, is a form of international restraint of trade, and sanction Russia for selling this to them, creates insult added to injury, as though relations with Russia are not bad enough at the moment.

I would politely suggest, Senator, that what you COULD do, from an American perspective, is go on a fact-finding mission, as to why the American military complex, at this point, has nothing really to compete with the S-400, and just what they intend to do about it.

Of course, THAT... would be logical.

Exclusive: Does Israel Have Chemical Weapons Too?

Syria’s reported use of chemical weapons is threatening to turn the civil war there into a wider conflict. But the Bashar al-Assad government may not be the only one in the region with a nerve gas stockpile. A newly discovered CIA document indicates that Israel likely built up a chemical arsenal of its own.

It is almost universally believed in intelligence circles here in Washington that Israel possesses a stockpile of several hundred fission nuclear weapons, and perhaps even some high-yield thermonuclear weapons. Analysts believe the Israeli government built the nuclear stockpile in the 1960s and 1970s as a hedge against the remote possibility that the armies of its Arab neighbors could someday overwhelm the Israeli military. But nuclear weapons are not the only weapon of mass destruction that Israel has constructed.

The Neocon Full Court Press For War Is Here

The events of the past two weeks have been stunning. Since Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled new ‘doomsday’ weapon systems at his State of the Union address, the West has gone completely bonkers.

In the words of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, “I simply don’t have any normal terms left to describe all this,”

With the U.K. expelling Russian diplomats over the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury last week, the push to isolate Russia and create conditions for a World War is here.

The questions are Who is behind this? And Why?

Theresa May’s response is a joke. This is a woman who can’t stand up to EU shakedown artists over the mildest of disagreements in Brexit talks but can grandstand to high heaven over an incident with no evidence of Russian action.

As Trump Moves Toward War, "The Resistance" Refuses To Resist

Tuesday’s post, It’s Impossible to Overstate How Terrible Mike Pompeo Is, laid out the view that Trump’s firing of Rex Tillerson represents a major shift toward war footing for the Trump administration, with Iran the specific target. This pivot was easily predictable, and I wrote numerous articles doing just that during 2017. Nevertheless, forecasting it and then seeing the disastrous pieces being moved into place are two different things.

Trump’s push to install Mike Pompeo as U.S. Secretary of State is a crystal clear indication that he’s begun the process of building his war cabinet. The next steps, likely to begin over the course of 2018, is to walk away from the Iran deal. I suspect relentless war propaganda to be unleashed simultaneously as the neocon/neoliberal/mass media war-monger alliance plays its well established role in selling the American public on another pointless and destructive war.

Framing Putin – Saga of the Spy and the Nerve Agent

By Chris Kanthan

How dumb are the masses of the world? One just has to look at the brazen, obvious false flag incidents that the elites keep piling on. Trained to be consumers of sensational news, the idiotic population of the West simply accepts allegations without thinking or analysis.

Let’s take a brief look at the claim that Putin/Kremlin/Russia used a deadly chemical weapon (called “Novichok”) against an ex-Russian spy who has been living in the UK for eight years. Within hours after the incident, the UK foreign minister – bozo Boris Johnson – claimed that Russia was behind the attack. Then Theresa May said it’s “highly likely” that Russia did it; and everyone translated that into “definitely Russia did it.” Now, of course, crazed warmonger Nikki Haley has joined the chorus and even tells people that Russia may use chemical weapons in New York...

Saudi Crown Prince Says Will Develop Nuclear Bomb If Iran Gets One; Compares Ayatollah To Hitler

In a "60 Minutes" interview set to air on Sunday, the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, said his country would quickly obtain a nuclear bomb - if arch rival Iran successfully develops its own nuclear weapon.

The Saudi crown prince, currently on a whirlwind global PR tour to relieve his western allies of the bitter aftertaste that resulted from last year's unprecedented extortion crackdown on Saudi Royals, which left many of them imprisoned in the Riyadh Ritz Carlton for months until they "agreed" to hand over their loot to the cash-depleted government, said that "Saudi Arabia doesn’t want to own a nuclear bomb. But without a doubt, if Iran develops a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible.”

Russian to Judgment: Who Poisoned Sergei Skripal?

The absurdity of this was inadvertently underscored by the comments of Vil Mirzayanov, the Russian-born chemist who first revealed the existence of “Novichok,” the nerve agent developed by the Russians. Mirzayanov came to the United States in 1995: in 2007, he published a book, State Secrets, which tells his story as a chemist working in Russia’s secret chemical weapons facilities. Now 83, he gives the following explanation for the attack on Skripal:

“‘Only the Russians’ developed this class of nerve agents, said the chemist. ‘They kept it and are still keeping it in secrecy.’

“The only other possibility, he said, would be that someone used the formulas in his book to make such a weapon.”

Oh, but what kind of a person would do that? Why, that would have to mean that they were trying to frame the Russians by making it look like the work of the FSB, the Russian intelligence agency. And we all know that’s just not possible – right?

Britain’s presumption of guilt towards Russia invites conflict and chaos

Britain’s abandonment of due process has taken a dangerous and reckless leap, with Theresa May declaring economic sanctions and diplomatic expulsions for Russia’s “failure” to respond to allegations over the Skripal poisoning.
Provocatively, Moscow was given a 24-hour deadline to “answer” charges leveled by the British government that it was responsible for the attempted murder of a Russian double agent, Sergei Skripal, who had been living in England since 2010 after a spy-swap deal.

Skripal (66) and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia were apparently stricken with a deadly nerve agent in his adopted hometown of Salisbury on March 4 while strolling through a public park. The pair have been receiving treatment in intensive care ever since.

World War III Is Approaching

Of course, there has not been any chlorine gas use unless by the Washington-supplied mercenaries. But facts are not important to Washington. What is important to Washington is Israel’s demand that Washington destroy Syria and Iran in order to get rid of Hezbollah’s supporters so that Israel can seize southern Lebanon.

No doubt that other interests are in on the plot. Oil companies that want to control the location of oil and gas pipelines, the crazed neocons married to their ideology of American World Hegemony, the military/security complex that needs enemies and conflicts to justify its massive budget. But it is Israel’s determination to expand its boundaries and water resources that set all of the Middle East conflict in motion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I fear that Paul Craig Robert's "Curse of Cassandra Logic", (the prophetess, in classical Greek mythology, who always got her visions right, but was constantly being ignored by the very people those visions were supposed to help) is right on target here.

There is a certain aura of inevitability about how this is shaping up, and I suspect that it will be a question of when, not if, the US and Russia lock horns over Syria.

I also fear that the outcome of such a conflict may not go well for this country.

RUSSIA'S HYPERSONIC MISSILES DIDN'T SURPRISE AMERICA BUT THEY AWED THE WORLD

This dramatic announcement came during his annual State of the Nation address which this time included multiple videos showcasing each of the weapons systems that he described in his speech. President Putin was clear, however, that these armaments are for defensive purposes and were created in response to the US pulling out of the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty in 2002 and thereby completely upsetting the erstwhile parity that had hitherto stabilized their relations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF American intelligence knew about the development of these weapons, why does the US not have the weapons at least one step ahead of what the Russians have at present?!?

There is no real excuse here, if that was the case.

This "J'accuse" I lay squarely at the feet of the culture of the leadership in the military industrial complex; the last two administrations; and the Trump administration.

Knowing that this was going on, but doing nothing to improve America's weaponry strength, makes the leadership of this country, and that of the military industrial complex here, appear to be collectively stupid.

Not that I am for using such weapons, as a Christian Pacifist Activist; St. Petersburg, and the Hermitage, are very much on my bucket list, and there is much positive that Putin has done for Russia.

It is apparent that the Russian government is getting far more "bang" for its weaponry buck than is the US government.

But not having such weapons in the US's military arsenal?!?

Just plain dumb, and a really bad call.

Novichok – toxic questions about chemical at center of Skripal saga

‘Novichok’ is said to be a “binary agent,” meaning that it could be stored as two, less toxic chemicals. To produce the active toxic agent, the two must be mixed, and be allowed to react. This makes the ingredients easier to transport, as they only become fully toxic when mixed.

Anton Utkin, a Russian chemist who worked as a UN inspector in Iraq and developed technologies to destroy Russia’s chemical weapons, says it’s unclear “how they [Britain] could establish that it was produced in Russia.” He said that anyone familiar with the technology could have produced it. “You can’t find out who manufactured the chemical weapon – the content of the substance will be fully identical while using the same method,” he said. “There is no way to establish with full accuracy that a chemical comes from this or that country.”

This Is No ‘Cold War’; It’s Far Worse Than That.

During the Cold War, the two sides agreed that any war between the capitalist side and the communist side would escalate to nuclear war between the U.S. and the USSR and constitute Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D.). Therefore, because of this mutual acceptance of M.A.D., hot war didn’t develop during that entire period, from 1945 till the Soviet Union dissolved and ended its military alliance the Warsaw Pact, both of which ended in 1991. Throughout that 45-year period, called “the Cold War,” there was no hot war between the two nuclear superpowers, because both sides believed that any hot war would end in M.A.D. — mutual annihilation, and the end of civilization.

Why The Super-Rich Are Rushing To Buy Nuclear-Proof Bunkers

The rush amongst the super-rich started after the key event of 2014; this single stunning event suddenly sparked that rush by the super-rich to buy nuclear-proof bunkers, and the rush has been nonstop since that event. Though many news-media in The West have reported on the existence of this suddenly booming market for luxurious and supposedly nuclear-proof bunkers, none has reported on what actually caused it — the event that had sparked it. In fact, that event is still a secret in The West — not publicly mentioned here; it is, practically speaking, bannedfrom being publicly even mentioned, in The West.

Putin poisoning plan backfires as world readies to wage World War 3 on Russia

VLADIMIR Putin’s alleged plot to poison a former Russian spy in the UK has seen world leaders rally behind Britain ready to respond as the threat of World War 3 grows.

Read the comments. Nobody is buying this nonsense (except the paid shills).

Chlorine Findings in Syria Confirm Terrorists Have Toxic Agents - Russian Envoy

Moscow believes that the threats to Damascus to use force against Syria are unacceptable, Russia's permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Alexander Shulgin has said on Wednesday after US envoy's to UN statement about readiness to act militarily on Syria.

"We regard such threats as appeals for aggression against a sovereign state in violation of all international legal norms. We consider this absolutely unacceptable," Shulgin said at a session of the OPCW Executive Council on Wednesday.

Shulgin went on to say that the chlorine findings on the liberated Syrian territories prove that terrorists have toxic agents.

Putin’s Missiles: Deterring an American Attack?

Putin’s March 1st presentation of new Russian weapons has been greatly misunderstood as a declaration of strategic parity or triumphalism. There was a much more urgent need, namely, to prevent an imminent strike. This danger is not over yet, for a week later, on March, 7, President Putin emphasised his readiness to employ the nuclear weapons for retaliation purposes, even if it would end the world.

The sharply raised stakes were a game-changer. Who knows what will be the Russian response on this or other action of the Western allies? The warlike neocons say Russia is all talk, all bluff. Realists say that the US may suffer the humiliating and painful loss of its CSGs with thousands of lives at sea. The US President had enjoyed the previous strike of Syria with dozens of Tomahawks before returning to his beautiful chocolate cake. If the strike were revisited upon the striking SCGs – this is totally different matter.

What Secretary of State Tillerson’s Firing Means

Trump will go down as the Man who destroyed America and maybe the Planet.

The firing of Secretary of State Tillerson, the movement of CIA Director Pompeo to Secretary of State, and the promotion of Gina Haspel, who oversaw the secret CIA torture prisons in Thailand (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/02/us/politics/cia-deputy-director-gin...), indicate that the military/security complex has closed its grip on the Trump regime. There will be no more talk of normalizing relations with Russia.

US Commander: ‘US Troops Prepared to Die for Israel’ in War Against Syria, Hezbollah

Such a war is likely to be ignited by the unrest destined to follow the U.S.’ imminent move of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The move, set to take place in May, led Hamas to call for a third intifada, or uprising, in response to the U.S.’ unilateral decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in defiance of the international consensus.

Beyond the fact that Israel is preparing to go to war with several countries simultaneously is the fact that U.S. ground troops are now “prepared to die for the Jewish state,” according to U.S. Third Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Richard Clark.

“We are ready to commit to the defense of Israel and anytime we get involved in a kinetic fight there is always the risk that there will be casualties. But we accept that, as in every conflict we train for and enter, there is always that possibility,” Clark told the Post.

Webmaster's Commentary:

'U.S. ground troops are now “prepared to die for the Jewish state,” according to U.S. Third Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Richard Clark.'

Oh, really, General Clark?!?

I would seriously doubt that.

I would respectfully suggest that you ask your troops if this is, in fact, the honest truth as they see it.

And I will venture one relatively safe bet here; the Israeli government wants to see these wars go forward; but primarily at the costs of American blood and American money.

Hawaii declines requests for records on false missile alert

Hawaii officials have repeatedly pointed to a low-level state employee and a breakdown in his agency's leadership as the main cause for a January missile alert that left hundreds of thousands of islanders thinking they might die in a nuclear blast. But efforts to find out more about what other top officials did that day have been stymied at the highest levels of state government.

Hawaii law says opening the government to public scrutiny "is the only viable and reasonable method of protecting the public's interest."

But for nearly two months, Gov. David Ige's office has refused to provide information requested by The Associated Press that could show how he and other officials handled the crisis.

Citing open records law exemptions, Ige's office has declined to release phone logs, text messages, instant messages and calendars related to the missile alert, even as the state moves forward with recommendations to implement a new missile alert system .

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pure and utter codswallop, Governor Ige!!

The Hawaiian people don't believe it for a second, either; because of the massive corruption in this state's government, they have grown utterly cynical about any statement from most Hawaiian politicians.

And hey, Governor, talking about corruption and a hideous waste of taxpayers' money in this state, let's talk about about the "Light Rail to Nowhere", which is in a constant state of construction and repair, with roads so torn up in cities like Aiea, that it is nearly a death-defying experience for both a car's suspension, and human spines.

When is that forensic accounting of this project going to happen, demonstrating where the hell the money went, sir, andy why the horrific cost over-runs here?!?

They’re Still Pulling Bodies Out of ISIS’ Capital

An investigation by Airwars.org shows that Coalition-inflicted casualties were vastly higher than acknowledged, and the Trump administration doesn’t want to know.

In the weeks after the defeat of the so-called Islamic State at Raqqa, a woman named Ayat Mohamed—her black clothing covering burns on her body—led a French TV crew to the ruins of a building in the Al Badou neighborhood. Here in late September Ayat’s husband Khaled al Salama, their four children, along with her mother, sister and niece, had all been killed by an alleged strike by the U.S. led coalition. Their bodies remained trapped below.
