Can US Attack North Korea and Claim ‘Self Defense’? Officials Are Already Trying to Build Legal Justification

In the course of trying to structure the narrative around soaring tensions with North Korea, the Trump Administration has made major efforts to play up North Korea as an imminent threat, and the possibility that North Korea might attack as a realistic possibility.

And yet, realistically, most analysts agree that if a war does happen, it would be the US attacking North Korea, and not the other way around. This grim possibility necessarily comes with a question: can the US, having attacked North Korea and started a calamitous war, claim it was done in “self defense“?

Obviously they can, and would, try to do so. Some officials are already try to build a legal case that North Korea is a special case and that US military action would be justified, which only adds to concerns that a US attack might be forthcoming.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am watching the Faux crawl, stating that Guam is preparing for a potential attack from North Korea, even though North Korea has only stated that it was going to do a missile test in the vicinity of Guam, which is far from stating that it was about to stage an attack against it.

In the next couple of weeks, and definitely before the BRICs meeting in China, which starts on the 31st of this month, were I a betting woman, I would not bet against an horrific false flag, to be blamed on North Korea, and off we go, into an ill-advised, and ill-considered war against it.

30 DEAD AFTER US-COALITION ALLEGEDLY STRIKES RAQQA HOSPITAL WITH PHOSPHORUS BOMBS

Deputy Director of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent “SARC” Branch in Raqqa Dina al-Asa’ad said as cited by Sana that the shelling of the National Hospital in Raqqa by the coalition with phosphorus bombs occurred on Thursday night.

Dina al-Assad reported that the warplanes carried out 20 combat sorties and targeted the hospital’s power generators, vehicles and wards.

She further said that the hospital was rendering medical services to over 100,000 population of Raqqa city, adding that ISIL was not present at all at the hospital.

In the meantime, Head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Fowaz al-Asaf announced that over 65 government facilities, including sugar company, have thus far been destroyed in the offensive of the US warplanes and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in Raqqa.

Field sources reported that 30 civilians have been killed and several more have been wounded in the phosphorus bomb attacks on the state and children’s hospitals in Raqqa.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am thoroughly ashamed to be a citizen of a country so completely complicit in the commission of war crimes, like the bombing of hospitals, from Yemen to Syria. The following are images of what white phosphorous bombs do to its victims:

PEPE ESCOBAR ON NORTH KOREA: FIRE, FURY, FEAR, & FALSE FLAGS

Beware the dogs of war.

The same intel “folks” who brought to you babies pulled from incubators by “evil” Iraqis as well as non-existent WMDs are now peddling the notion that North Korea has produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead able to fit its recently tested ICBM.

That’s the core of an analysis completed in July by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Additionally, US intel believes that Pyongyang now has access to up to 60 nuclear weapons.

On the ground US intel on North Korea is virtually non-existent – so these assessments amount to guesswork at best.

But when we couple the guesswork with an annual 500-page white paper released earlier this week by the Japanese Defense Ministry, alarm bells do start ringing.

The white paper stresses Pyongyang’s “significant headway” in the nuclear race and its “possible” (italics mine) ability to develop miniaturized nuclear warheads able to fit on the tips of its missiles.

China will prevent US first strike against North Korean regime – govt daily

China just said NO!

China will prevent the US and South Korea from carrying out strikes on North Korea and trying to overthrow the leadership there, but will remain neutral if Pyongyang launches missiles at American targets first, the state-run Global Times said.

Beijing should make it clear that “if North Korea launches missiles that threaten US soil first and the US retaliates, China will stay neutral,” the Global Times wrote.

But if the US and its ally South Korea take on Pyongyang and try to “overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so,” the paper stressed.

‘Best of bad options’: US has plan to strike N. Korea nuclear sites with B-1 bombers, reports say

The US reportedly has a plan for a preemptive strike on North Korean missile sites with bombers stationed in Guam, should Donald Trump order it. It is apparently viewed as “the best of all bad options” amid mounting tensions between the states.

An attack by Rockwell B-1 Lancer supersonic heavy bombers from Andersen Air Force Base in the US territory of Guam makes up a major part of the plan, senior acting and retired military officials told NBC news.

“Of all the military options … [President Donald Trump] could consider, this would be one of the two or three that would at least have the possibility of not escalating the situation,” retired Admiral James Stavridis, former Supreme Allied Commander Europe and an NBC News analyst, said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How in the name of heaven can Admiral James Stavridis make this claim with a straight face?!?

Apparently, he and I have a very different definition of "escalation."

And what does he expect China to do, if President Trump orders this attack?!? Sit by with hands folded, and sing "Kumbyah"?!?

I don't think so.

And as someone who lives on a first strike target on Oahu, call me just a little nervous to see this escalation of tension with North Korea and China.

Indirect Imperial Butchery: America’s Disturbing Plan to Privatize the Longest War

As President Donald Trump vents his frustration with the United States' "losing" strategy in Afghanistan, the "notorious mercenary" and Blackwater founder Erik Prince has seized the moment to offer his favored alternative: privatize the war.

The plan, this literal colonialism, would be very similar to Blackwater’s approach in Iraq, where the private contractors had significant influence on US policy. It will potentially open the door to deadly abuses and murders by unaccountable forces, like those seen in Iraq.

Ronald Neumann, who served as the US Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2005 to 2007, has echoed these concerns in an interview with mainstream media: "There's a bad record of contractors and human rights abuses. There's no legal structure to govern this."

Trump Provokes China Again, Sends Another Destroyer To South China Sea

A US Navy destroyer sailed within 12 miles of an artificial island built by China in the South China Sea on Thursday, a "provocation" that threatens another angry response from the Chinese government and further complicating President Donald Trump’s efforts to align the Communist Party in his pursuit to find a diplomatic resolution to the North Korean crisis.

As Reuters reports, the USS John McCain (yes, he the Senator has a ship named after him) passed by the Mischief Reef in the Spratly Islands in what US military officials justified as yet anohter “freedom of navigation” operation, the third since Trump took office. Over the past six months, the US has grown increasingly bold, or provocative as Beijing calls it, by sending aircraft and ships to contested waters in the South China Sea to the anger and frustration of Beijing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That the US government continues to annoy Beijing with these moves, at a time (if they wanted a peaceful resolution at all) when they desperately need China on board to stop North Korea's weapons program, leads me to the conclusion that the Unhinged Surveilled States of Amerika is preparing, ultimately, for a war against China, to destroy the value of the yuan before the American economy comes crashing down.

Unfortunately, what those in the bowels of power in DC seem to conveniently forget, is that the US military doesn't have the weaponry, the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war against China in the short term.

UN Envoy Haley Heads to Vienna to Challenge Iran’s Nuclear Deal Compliance

While most of the Trump Administration opposes the president’s efforts to come up with some pretext for withdrawing from the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran, Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has appeared to be on board with the idea, even declaring Iran in violation of the deal in June, shortly before President Trump grudgingly admitted they were in compliance.

IAEA inspectors continue to confirm Iran’s compliance with the P5+1 deal
President Trump has suggested he’s going to claim a violation next time, and Haley is reportedly planning to visit the IAEA in Vienna later this month, with the visit expected to focus on Iranian compliance. The IAEA has affirmed Iran remains in compliance monthly since the deal went into effect.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a brilliant demonstration of Ms. Haley serving her Israeli masters by attempting to destroy the P5+1 accord with Iran, as a prelude to a US war against it.

If one takes a look at her bio Biography of Ambassador Nikki Haley, you will notice that she does have a BS degree...in accounting, not nuclear energy or nuclear weapons.

She is probably the most completely scientifically unqualified American President Trump could have possibly chosen to attempt to pick holes in what the IAEA has continued, in its scientific capabilities, to claim about Iran completely complying with the P5+1 agreement.

Please remember; Israel would like nothing better than the extermination of its alleged existential enemy in the Middle East, Iran; but only with American blood and American money.

LAPD STILL TRYING TO LAUNCH POLICE DRONES DESPITE PUBLIC OUTCRY

The general concern over police spying has been addressed vigorously by the Los Angeles public for many years. As I covered in early 2015, public concern heightened even further when the LAPD acquired drones from the Seattle PD and began to discuss guidelines for implementation.

An organization called Stop LAPD Spying Coalition was formed specifically to document their resistance to secret drone surveillance. The group condemned the police commission as “an affront to the principles of democracy,” after the commission closed a session to the public and refused to allow comment on police proposals.

What appears to be absent, according to this new report, is the previously explicit deference given to “public acceptance,” now stressing their intention to push ahead with “approval from a high-ranking department official” under “narrow and prescribed uses.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem with drones is, they can, and most likely will, be weaponised,as we have seen in Afghanistan and Iraq, and God only knows with what.

LAPD has a not necessarily stellar reputation for observing human rights:

Recent LAPD controversies have officials in damage-control mode

But the temptation to outfit these drones with everything but the kitchen sink may prove impossible to defeat; and therein lies the problem. The potential to impose draconian control of a city's population, through fear of massive retaliation through the use of such weapons, for the slightest legal infraction, may prove irresistible for the LAPD.

The CIA and the Pentagon have not Ended Their Support to Islamist/ Wahhabi Terror Groups in Syria

BP: According to the Washington Post, U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to end the CIA’s covert program to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels battling the government of Bashar al-Assad. What’s your assessment of this move?

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, it appears that absolutely nothing has really changed in Syria, with regard to the US arming the jihadists there, even though it was alleged that President Trump ordered this practice stopped last month.

Trump Ends Covert Aid to Syrian Rebels Trying to Topple Assad

It seems that the CIA is absolutely not listening to the White House on this issue, and if, in fact, what Mr. Papadopolous is saying is true, it would seem that President Trump needs to yank CIA Director Pompeo's chain right now, and very severely, on this issue.

Is America Trying to Start a World War? This Is How It Would Happen

Last Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed new sanctions into law against Russia, Iran, and North Korea. The legislation was supported so overwhelmingly in Congress that President Trump’s ability to veto the legislation was rendered completely ineffective.

Even anti-interventionist Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard voted in favor of the bill, once again proving that Republicans and Democrats always find common ground when it comes to beating the drums of war against sovereign nations who have taken very little unwarranted hostile action — if any — towards the United States.

But these are just sanctions, not acts of war, right? There’s nothing wrong with economically bullying other countries into submission over non-compliance with the current global order, right?

Not quite.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears to me that those in the bowels of power, in the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America, are looking for some war - any war - to happen ahead of the complete financial collapse this country is looking at experiencing, most likely, relatively soon.

North Korea v the US: how likely is war?

No one in the region, not even North Korea, wants another war. But Kim Jong-un is going to push it as far as he can to get what he wants: recognition from the United States that North Korea is a nuclear power, and legitimacy at home as a ruler who can defend his people against the big, bad US.

In some ways, Trump’s threats play into the North Korean calculus: Kim Jong-un wants his people to believe that the United States continues to threaten the very existence of North Korea. That fearmongering brings the North Korean people together, and justifies the regime’s diversion of precious resources into building nuclear bombs and ballistic missiles.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's that "uncertainty factor" of one stupid mistake, one clumsily missed communication, that could tip the region - and by extension, the US military, into a shooting war.

Israeli army buying local cannons to sidestep international ban on cluster bombs

The Israeli army will soon put into use new artillery cannons purchased from local defense company Elbit rather than a German firm over concerns that the latter would restrict the cannons from firing cluster bombs.

The use of cluster bombs is banned by an international treaty signed by more than 100 countries, including Germany, because of the high rate of civilian casualties and injuries associated with them. According to a now-retired Israel Defense Forces officer familiar with the matter, Israel was concerned that the Germans would not give the army the “complete independence” it sought in the use of the cannons. In light of this, the Defense Ministry recommended purchasing Israeli cannons, without inviting bids.

The South Korean firm Hanwha Techwin was also approached but ultimately rejected because the cannons it manufactures are semi-automatic, while the Artillery Corps wants an automatic weapon that has a faster firing rate and requires a smaller team to operate.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When left unexploded, and infants or toddlers try to play with them, these cluster munitions will tear tiny children into shreds; but for the IDF, when it comes to Palestinian infants and toddlers, of course, that doesn't matter.

Lockheed Sees Surge in Interest in Missile Defense Over North Korea Tensions

Several times a week, US officials threaten military action against North Korea. Even on days when they don’t media reports of tensions with North Korea continue the narrative that a huge war could erupt at any moment.

All these rumors of war are a big windfall for the Pentagon’s number one arms supplier, Lockheed Martin, as they are reporting that the surge in talk about North Korea’s missiles is leading to a surge in interest in their missile defense systems.

On the one hand, the reliability of any missile defense system is questionable under even optimal conditions, as evidenced by US failures. On the other hand, those Lockheed systems are very expensive, and have a really good profit margin on them.

US expert links North Korea's nuclear stockpile with light water reactors

North Korea can significantly increase its nuclear stockpile if a light water reactor under construction at its Yongbyon nuclear complex goes into operation, a U.S. nuclear scientist warned, urging Washington to restart negotiations with Pyongyang.

North Korea has so far used a 5-megawatt reactor at Yongbyon to make plutonium for nuclear weapons, roughly at a speed of one bomb worth of plutonium a year. But since a few years ago, the North has been building a larger-scale light water nuclear reactor that experts say could give Pyongyang enough plutonium to make about five or six weapons a year.

Donald Rumsfeld, the US defence secretary, sat on the board of a company which three years ago sold two light water nuclear reactors to North Korea - a country he now regards as part of the "axis of evil" and which has been targeted for regime change by Washington because of its efforts to build nuclear weapons.

Mr Rumsfeld was a non-executive director of ABB, a European engineering giant based in Zurich, when it won a $200m (£125m) contract to provide the design and key components for the reactors. The current defence secretary sat on the board from 1990 to 2001, earning $190,000 a year. He left to join the Bush administration.

The reactor deal was part of President Bill Clinton's policy of persuading the North Korean regime to positively engage with the west.

Never Forget: The Nukes N. Korea is Threatening to Use on America CAME FROM AMERICA

In fact, the only thing that makes North Korea a threat is their nuclear capability — made possible by the Clinton and Bush administrations.

These two administrations played key roles in helping the late Kim Jong-Il develop North Korea’s nuclear prowess from the mid 1990’s onwards.
Former US Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld was on the board of technology giant ABB when it won a deal to supply North Korea with two nuclear power plants.

According to the 2003 report from SWI, the Swiss-based ABB told swissinfo that Rumsfeld was involved with the company in early 2000, when it netted a $200 million (SFr270million) contract with Pyongyang.

The ABB contract was to deliver equipment and services for two nuclear power stations at Kumho, on North Korea’s east coast.

However, Rumsfeld was simply taking the baton from the Clinton administration, who, in 1994, agreed to begin replacing North Korea’s domestically built nuclear reactors with light water reactors.

BLACKWATER FOUNDER'S 'DISTURBING' PLAN TO PRIVATIZE AFGHAN WAR GAINS GROUND

As President Donald Trump vents his frustration with the United States' "losing" strategy in Afghanistan, the "notorious mercenary" and Blackwater founder Erik Prince has seized the moment to offer his favored alternative: privatize the war.

"A private air force and a bombing app! From the people who brought you Blackwater; an even more disturbing idea."
—Cal Perry, NBC News

According to a report by Katrina Manson of the Financial Times on Monday, Prince has drafted a proposal—dated August 2017—that would hand the longest war in American history over to a private "band of experienced sergeants," who would fight alongside U.S.-trained Afghan forces.

Prince, Manson writes, "proposes a two-year plan for fewer than 5,000 global guns for hire and under 100 aircraft, bringing the total cost of the U.S. effort to turn round a failing war to less than $10 billion a year."

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please: this excrement sandwich that is the Afghanistan war, is absolutely not your fault; you inherited this from the Bushbama administrations.

From the beginning, without committing far more troops than Bush or Obama would ultimately be willing to commit, this war was unwinnable from the get-go.

There is utterly no military metric by which this US/NATO occupation of Afghanistan can be considered a "success", unless you want to define "success" as the huge heroin crop which funds various "off the shelf" activities of various US "alphabet soup agencies, over which Congress does not have oversight:

Image: American troops protecting Afghani opium

Video: US troops protecting and harvesting opium poppies in Afghanistan

Images: US troops guarding poppy files in Afghanistan

And 16 years on, we are still in Afghanistan, because the Pentagon is pathologically incapable of figuring out how to win this, and because the various alphabet soup agencies are thoroughly addicted to that money from the poppy production.

So, what is to be done?!?

First, reject Prince's plan as though it were the plague.

Secondly, get our American and NATO troops out of Afghanistan as quickly as is safely possible, then negotiate with whatever government is left standing in Kabul for the pipeline and mineral rights.

You're welcome, Mr. President!!

North Korea May Be In Possession Of A Miniature Nuclear Warhead, Japan Warns

One day after Kim Jong Un's regime balked at this weekend's UN sanctions, promising retaliation and threatening to attack the US with a nuclear weapon, Japan's government has released a new 500-page report in which it warns that the threat from North Korean nuclear weapons has reached a “new stage” and that Pyongyang’s weapons program had “advanced considerably,” to the point where it was possible that the regime had acquired the ability to miniaturize nuclear warheads.

The white paper, approved by Japan’s cabinet on Tuesday morning, was published less than two weeks after North Korea test-fired its second ICBM, which US experts have said may be able to reach most of the continental United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Where, in its almost pathological absence of logic, did the Wa-Compost make the leap from "where it was possible that the regime had acquired the ability to miniaturize nuclear warheads.", as stated by the Japanese government's report, to "North Korea has miniaturized nuclear weapons", being regurgitated endlessly for over an hour on the Faux news feed, with no commercials to break up the "fear factor" this coverage was supposed to implant in the hearts and guts of the people watching ?!?

Folks, something wicked this way comes, and I must, unfortunately, inform you that it feels like we are very close to a US-engineered false flag, to be blamed on North Korea, as the justification for attacking it.

Kim Jong Un is many things; but crazy and suicidal are probably not among them. He is consistent in his anti-US rhetoric, and is developing weapons as a deterrent to keep his government from getting regime changed, and losing his power.

Military can destroy drones over domestic U.S. bases: Pentagon

The Pentagon has given more than 130 U.S. military bases across the United States the green light to shoot down private and commercial drones that could endanger aviation safety or pose other threats.

The number of uncrewed aircraft in U.S. skies has zoomed in recent years and continues to increase rapidly - along with concern among U.S. and private-sector officials that dangerous or even hostile drones could get too close to places like military bases, airports and sports stadiums.

While the specific actions that the U.S. military can take against drones are classified, they include destroying or seizing private and commercial drones that pose a threat, Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis told reporters on Monday.

The classified guidelines were distributed early last month. The Pentagon sent out unclassified guidance on how to communicate the policy to communities on Friday.

CHINA UNVEILS NEW WEAPONS - FROM STEALTH FIGHTERS TO ICBMS

As part of the People's Liberation Army's 90th anniversary celebration - it was founded on August 1, 1927 - President Xi Jinping (in military fatigues) hosted a giant parade at the Zhurihe Training Center.

Here, PLA's most elite forces demonstrated how far China has come in modern warfare. CCTV broadcast the session, which means a domestic and global audience of millions saw the army's showcase of tanks, stealth fighters, artillery, and ICBMs.

The fact that the parade took place not in Beijing, but in Inner Mongolia, was symbolic. Zhurihe hosts the PLA's annual Stride exercises. These wargames pit the resident "Blue Team" (a mechanized infantry brigade that uses NATO tactics) against visiting PLA units. These wargames are played in a variety of urban, hill, and open-area locations, often under intensive conditions, including simulated nuclear battlefields.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Chinese are getting one heck of a bang for their weaponry bucks, and this demonstration makes this very real, for everyone who is paying attention.

So what does Lockheed Martin present for America's fighter pilots?!?

On the Beach 2017

I read On the Beach for the first time the other day, finishing it as the US Congress passed a law to wage economic war on Russia, the world’s second most lethal nuclear power. There was no justification for this insane vote, except the promise of plunder.

The “sanctions” are aimed at Europe, too, mainly Germany, which depends on Russian natural gas and on European companies that do legitimate business with Russia. In what passed for debate on Capitol Hill, the more garrulous senators left no doubt that the embargo was designed to force Europe to import expensive American gas.

Their main aim seems to be war – real war. No provocation as extreme can suggest anything else. They seem to crave it, even though Americans have little idea what war is. The Civil War of 1861-5 was the last on their mainland. War is what the United States does to others.

Nagasaki: The Worst War Crime Ever

Japan was finished, and was all ready to sue for peace; the only condition it made was that the position of the Emperor should be protected. The Japanese government under Kantaro Suzuki that took office in April 1945 did so with the one single objective of ending the war. All this was known to the Western Allies, since the Japanese codes had long since been broken.

By May 1945, the Japanese were suing for peace through Switzerland and Moscow – peace on any terms, just so long as the position of the Emperor was protected.

These are the terms the Japanese offered as early as 20 January 1945, and repeated through the USSR in July[1,3]:

* Complete surrender of all Japanese forces and arms, at home, on island possessions, and in occupied countries.
* Occupation of Japan and its possessions by Allied troops under American direction.
* Japanese relinquishment of all territory seized during the war, as well as Manchuria, Korea and Taiwan.

The US Air Force is planning to develop 'variable nukes' that can be dialed up or down in destructive power to target everything from a small neighbourhood to an entire city.

Robocop of the Seas: Russia's New Naval Missile System Not to Be Messed With

Russia is a world leader in the design and production of high-tech weapons, and the new “Pantsir-ME” sea-based missile system is fresh proof of this.
Pantsir-ME

The Pantsir-ME, unveiled to the public on June 28 during a naval show in St. Petersburg, is a shipborne version of the Pantsir-S missile system and could be installed on Russia’s next generation warships.

Reminiscent of a fighting robot from a sci-fi flick, the Pantsir-ME is capable of simultaneously attacking up to four targets flying at a speed of up to 2,240 miles per hour, with a reaction time of three to five seconds.

The naval version of the Pantsir-S can hit targets with missiles at a range of up to 12.4 miles and at an altitude of up to 9.3 miles.

The system has a feature to automatically fire artillery armaments if it turns out that a "target is not hit or not sufficiently hit" after a primary missile attack.

McMaster: Threat of North Korean nuclear weapon strike "impossible to overstate"

This is why we should worry about this guy,not a tempest in a teapot over NSC staffers getting fired or renewing every living NSC heads security clearance per 70 year old sop, when Trump was makin nice with Hillary early on.

More war and any ole war will do.

National security adviser H.R. McMaster said Saturday the threat of North Korea launching a nuclear weapon at the U.S. or another rival nation is “impossible to overstate” and repeated that a preemptive military strike remains an option.

“It’s impossible to overstate the danger associated with a rogue, brutal regime,” McMaster told Hugh Hewitt on the conservative commentator’s MSNBC TV show.

“Are we preparing a plan for a preventive war? … The president has been very clear that he’s not going to tolerate North Korea being able to threaten the U.S. … So of course we have to provide all options to do that, and that includes a military option,” McMaster said.

Why Killing the Iran Deal Could Start the next War in the Middle East

There are troubling signs that the Trump administration is itching for a fight with Iran. While the White House recently certified that Tehran was complying with the nuclear deal, fresh sanctions and thinly veiled references to regime change should raise serious concern that the administration will be searching for any excuse to avoid recertifying Iran’s compliance come the next review in October. In fact, President Donald Trump tasked a team in the White House with coming up with reasons to withhold certification at the next opportunity. And in a July 25 interview with the Wall Street Journal Trump prejudged the October outcome, saying he fully expected Iran to be declared noncompliant.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The extent Israel's Bibi Netanyahu is pressuring Trump to make this happen has to be immense; after all, Israel has always wanted its greatest "existential threat" in the Middle East to get "neutralized", but only through the costs of American blood, and American money.

So Mr. President, a word of caution here, please: a US attack against Iran will almost certainly bring Russia into the fray, on the side of Iran; and at this point in its history, the US military does not have the money; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the weaponry to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

The sanctions Congress has placed against Iran are completely insane, because the actions Iran is taking with its missiles were never deemed illegal under the P5+1 agreement, with which the IAEA (no slouches, intellectually, BTW) have found Iran in full compliance.

Milk-Bar Clausewitzes, Bean Curd Napoleons: In the Reign of Kaiser Don

Political Science from Fred On Everything!

Why do those inadequate little men in Washington and New York dream of new wars? Because the empire is near a tipping point.

Washington must either either start a war in Korea, or gets faced down by the North, its carriers ignored, its bombers “sending signals” and making “shows of force” without result. For the empire this is a loss of face and credibility, and an example to others that America can be challenged.

Hiroshima – A Criminal Enterprise From Which Nothing Has Been Learned

In Hiroshima, a millisecond after 8.16 a.m., on 6th August 1945, the temperature at the core of the hundreds of feet wide fireball reached 50,000,000 degrees. Flesh burned two miles distant from it’s outer parameters.

80,000 people were killed or mortally injured instantly. The main area targeted was “the city’s principal residential, commercial and military quarters.”

The entrance to the Shima Clinic was flanked by great stone columns – “They were rammed straight down in to the ground.” The building was destroyed: “The occupants were vapourised.”

Just three of the city’s fifty five hospitals remained usable, one hundred and eighty of Hiroshima’s two hundred doctors were dead or injured and 1,654 of 1,780 nurses.

Sixty two thousand buildings were destroyed as all utilities and transportation systems. Just sixteen fire fighting vehicles remained workable.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A reminder that for all the propaganda about Saddam's nukes, or Iran's nukes, or North Korea's nukes, only one nation has actually used nuclear weapons of mass destruction on the civilians of another country, and that nation is the United States.

This is the famed Russian tank corps that Putin is sending to NATO's borders

As many as 100,000 Russian troops will be arriving in Belarus in September for the Zapad military exercises, and with them will be a storied tank corps.

The 1st Guards Tank Army, a historic corps-sized formation that President Vladimir Putin re-assembled in 2015, is being sent to take part in the Zapad military exercise, which means "west" in Russian.

A number of western generals and politicians have expressed concern about the Zapad military exercise in the last few months.

"People are worried this is a Trojan horse," US Army Gen. Ben Hodges told Reuters in July. "They say, 'We're just doing an exercise,' and then all of a sudden they've moved all these people and capabilities somewhere."

"For Russian troops going to Belarus, it is a one-way ticket," Estonia's Defense Minister Margus Tsahkna told Reuters in April.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am very concerned about the Estonian Defense Minister's statement: "For Russian troops going to Belarus, it is a one-way ticket."

Why in the name of heaven would he make that observation, except if he knows that there is some horrific false flag coming, to be blamed on Russia, North Korea or Iran (or, perhaps, on all 3, allegedly colluding to make it happen), and this will truly get a world war going?!?

I frankly can think of no other reason for that statement to be made.

The drills scheduled to run between September 14 and 20 will also involve naval and air units operating in and around the Baltic and North Sea.

Let's hope and pray nothing goes sideways here; but to the people who read this blog, and listen to the WRH radio show: please have your preps for food, water, medication, and self-defense equipment with which you feel comfortable sorted by the 13th of next month.

Something this way wicked comes, and we all need to be prepared for it.

Trump Will Now Become the War President

President Trump has been defeated by the military/security complex and forced into continuing the orchestrated and dangerous tensions with Russia. Trump’s defeat has taught the Russians the lesson I have been trying to teach them for years, and that is that Russia is much more valuable to Washington as an enemy than as a friend.

Do we now conclude with Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev that Trump is washed up and “utterly powerless?” I think not. Trump is by nature a leader. He wants to be out front, and that is where his personality will compel him to be. Having been prevented by the military/security complex, both US political parties, the presstitute media, the liberal-progressive-left, and Washington’s European vassals from being out front as a leader for peace, Trump will now be the leader for war. This is the only permissible role that the CIA and armaments industry will permit him to have.

BAE, BRITAIN’S LARGEST ARMS MAKER, POSTS RECORD PROFITS

Britain’s largest defense firm has made $733 m in six months, and expects further growth, in results posted weeks after surviving a High Court challenge to its multi-billion-dollar arms deals with Saudi Arabia.

BAE Systems lauded the sale of Typhoon jets to Oman and noted its court victory over anti-arms trade campaigners in the results, saying net profits soared 36 percent to £555 m ($733 m) in the six months to the end of June, compared with £408 m a year earlier.

It said profits were boosted by UK government defense spending and a weak pound following Britain’s decision to leave the European Union. Sales forged almost 10 percent higher to stand at £9.565 bn.

Charles Woodburn, BAE’s chief executive, said: “BAE Systems’ performance in the first half was consistent with our expectations and guidance for the year.

“We have a sound platform for medium-term growth underpinned by a clear and consistent strategy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. Woodburn, a word, please: your "sound strategy" is leaving hundreds of thousands dead and maimed for life in Yemen, courtesy of Saudi bombing runs against it.

So glad you feel so great, and completely conscience-free, about this!!

Did Iran make a historical mistake by signing a nuclear deal with the US?

These are very conciliatory words from the foreign minister of the most powerful country in the world directed to Kim Jong Un, a puny military dictator of an economically bankrupt country.

On the face of it, one would think that such a speech would allay any fears the North Korean have and that the US would come around to adopting a more reasonable stance. This is more so since there have been open hints that a peaceful settlement of such matters could be accompanied by significant economic incentives.

So, what does the little guy have to lose? On the face of it, it seems to be a perfect win-win situation.

However, during the same briefing, Tillerson went on to say that the US is examining the P5 +1 nuclear agreement with Iran very closely to find out how it can prove that Iran has violated the agreement. This could then become grounds for it to tear up the agreement.

“MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS”: THE DARK SIDES OF AFGHANISTAN’S MOAB TRAGEDY ARE UNFOLDING

The use of destructive weapon as such could kill several birds with one stone. It earned Donald Trump somewhat uplift in status amid disgraces whirling around White House at that time. It also played a commercial advertisement for purchasers of the US arms, in part for being over-hyped.

In an interview, an Afghan environment protection expert explained that MOAB-like bombs exposes hazardous chemicals into air that causes cancer, respiratory and digestive problems, deformities in babies, strokes, high blood pressure and weakened vision. It severely contaminates food and water that even stay afloat to affect next generation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, I am peacefully, and politely, putting you on notice: in my world, there is no such thing as "collateral damage."

Sir, the reality is we are talking about brother and sister human beings who have been deafened; blinded; hit with aggressive cancers and birth defects; and outright assassinated, in order to control the oil pipelines and mineral deposits in Afghanistan.

We have never had the moral high ground in this war, or at all been on the right side of history; this is why US/NATO troops have lost control of huge amounts of territory to the Taliban.

It is high time, sir, that the US and NATO bring their troops home, as quickly as is safely possible, and negotiate with whatever government left standing in Kabul for the pipeline and mineral rights.

Russia’s Next ICBM Could Be Deadlier — Even With Fewer Warheads

According to state-run RIA Novosti, the Sarmat weighs slightly less than 110 tons and has a throw weight of about five tons. It is being specifically designed to defeat any potential American missile defense system that might be developed to counter Russia’s strategic nuclear deterrent. It is also being designed to withstand a first strike — being able to absorb seven nuclear warheads compared to the two hits its takes to destroy an American Minuteman III silo.

PENTAGON, STATE DEPT. SUBMIT PROPOSALS TO ARM UKRAINE AGAINST RUSSIA IN NEW PROVOCATION

As the Syrian military moves farther east and clinches yet more territory from America’s terrorists, the United States establishment is now moving to escalate its provocations in another part of the world – Ukraine. Of course, despite the fact that Russia has launched a massive military operation to protect its strategic interests in Syria, the U.S. terror establishment is attempting to provide more arms and equipment to fascists in Ukraine in a clear effort to push NATO literally up to the Russian border.

It is currently being reported by numerous corporate outlets such as The New York Times that both the Pentagon and the State Department are proposing a plan to the White House that would see the U.S. supply Ukraine with anti-tank missiles and other arms. The transfer would also include antiaircraft systems described as “defensive weaponry.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Putin, rightly, will see such a transfer of weaponry to the Ukraine military as tantamount to a declaration of war against it, by NATO and the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America.

U.S. to launch yet another test missile from California's Vandenberg Air Force Base

Days after North Korea fired a rocket into the Sea of Japan, the U.S. Air Force is planning to test launch an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile Wednesday from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The unarmed Minuteman III missile will be launched between 12:01 and 6:01 a.m. from the base, about 12 miles northwest of Lompoc, according to Vandenberg’s 30th Space Wing team.

The Air Force Global Strike Command’s missile launch is designed to test the weapon system’s effectiveness, accuracy and readiness, the Air Force said.

North Korea ICBM Failed, But US Still Hypes Threat

US officials have responded to last week’s North Korea ICBM test by hyping up the growing “threat” posed by the nation’s missile program, claiming that North Korea now has the capability of hitting “most” of the United States with a missile.

This narrative plays well into the administration’s eagerness to keep escalating threats and sanctions, but it’s not true. As with the previous “successful” ICBM test, this most recent one wasn’t really a success, and once again demonstrated North Korea’s limitations on such missiles.

In reality, experts say the video footage of the ICBM shows that it broke up upon re-entry, and hit the sea in pieces. Lack of re-entry capability, along with lack of advanced guidance technology, were both cited as problems with the previous test as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This means that there is every good reason to sit down an negotiate a peace deal with Pyongyang before it really does develop a steerable, nuclear weapon.

PENTAGON REPORTEDLY DEVISES PLAN TO ARM UKRAINE WITH ANTITANK MISSILES

The US Defense and State Departments have come up with a plan to supply Ukraine with antitank missiles and other weaponry and are awaiting White House approval, US media reported on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The arms, which are characterized as defensive, are apparently meant to deter aggressive actions by Russia in the country, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing American military officials and diplomats.

US Defense Secretary James Mattis supports the plan, the paper reported, citing US officials.

A senior White House official told the newspaper that a decision has not yet been made on the arms proposal.

A violent military conflict in Ukraine started in 2014 after the residents of the eastern Donbas region refused to recognize the new Ukrainian government that came to power in what they perceived to be a coup.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US was thoroughly complicit in that coup in 2014; President Obama admitted it.

President Obama admitted that the US government was complicit in the Ukrainian riots which unseated Yanukovich in 2014

And if the Trump administration doesn't believe that getting these offensive arms to the Ukrainian government will not be perceived by Moscow as tantamount to an act of war, they had better darn well think again.

The Next Escalation: Pentagon Offers To Arm Ukraine, McCain Delighted

When we reported yesterday about Putin's surprisingly harsh response to last week's House legislation to launch new sanctions against Russia, which also binds Trump from unilaterally removing sanctions without getting Congressional approval, we concluded that "now we await the US re-retaliation in what is once again the same tit-for-tat escalation that marked the latter years of the Obama regime, as the US Military Industrial Complex breathes out a sigh of relief that for all the posturing by Trump, things between Russia and the US are back on autopilot."

We didn't have long to wait.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russia will see this as tantamount to a declaration of war against it by the United States.

BOMBSHELL REPORT : Crooked Mueller Tied to Crooked Hillary’s Schemes

As the Russia probe moves forward, more and more dirty details on Robert Mueller are emerging.

The day it was announced that Mueller was leading the Russia investigation, Julian Assange released a Wikileaks bombshell.

The Wikileaks document showed that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ordered Mueller to deliver a sample of stolen Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) to Russia in 2009.

As more information comes to light, it has become clear that the only “Russian ties” have been on the Democrats’ side, and had nothing to do with President Trump or his family.

The left overplayed their hand, and had they not screamed and yelled about Russia-related conspiracy theories as loudly and often as they did, the American people might not be so keen to the fact that Democrats, not Republicans, are the ones who’ve been involved in shady dealings with Russia.

Kremlin Stops Waiting for Trump and Moves to Retaliate Against US Sanctions

Donald Trump is the weakest President I have seen in my lifetime.

President Trump was very clear about wanting good relations with Russia, and the Putin government was very clear about holding off any retaliation, waiting for Trump to come through. At this point, they’re done waiting, and starting to retaliate.

This both reflects growing impatience within Russia to do something about repeated US sanctions and public brow-beating of Russia, and a growing recognition among top officials that President Trump’s “political impotence” means he’s never going to deliver what he promised.

ROBERT MUELLER’S ROLE IN CLINTON SCHEME TO SELL 20 PERCENT OF US URANIUM TO RUSSIA

On May 17, the day Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as Special Counsel charged with investigating possible “Russian collusion” with President Trump’s campaign, Julian Assange at WikiLeaks tweeted a WikiLeaks released State Department cable documenting that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ordered Mueller to deliver a sample of stolen Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) to Russia in 2009.

Assange’s email signaled an investigation is needed into Mueller and his complex involvement with Russia and Uranium One, the company Bill Clinton promoted with Canadian entrepreneur Frank Giustra while Hillary Clinton served as Obama secretary of state in a criminal saga that ended up with Secretary Clinton voting to give the Russian State Atomic Nuclear Energy Agency, Rosatom, control of approximately 20 percent of all uranium holdings in the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is an issue which desperately deserves to become a part of the American discussion of the Clinton Crime Spree Years, and what she did to this country in her tenure as Secretary of State.

China reveals its terrifying military weapons with vast parade including stealth jets, nuclear missiles, attack helicopters and thousands of elite troops

President Xi Jinping - wearing his military fatigues - inspected his troops personally just hours after the latest North Korea crisis.

The Americans were warned by Beijing after stepping up the deployment of its THAAD missile defence system in South Korea.

The move was in response to Kim Jong-un's latest ballistic missile test on Friday night.

But a stern China warned Washington: "The Chinese side is deeply concerned about the situation."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to hope that President Trump got the message from this Chinese demonstration of force; that any attack against North Korea will be double plus ungood for the Unhinged Surveilled States of Amerika.

It feels to me as though a US war against North Korea (and very probably, by extension, China) is imminent.

And living on a "first strike target" (all US military communications run through a facility here on Oahu, which Chinese missiles can hit), color Mike and me just a little nervous about such a prospect!!

China reveals its terrifying military weapons with vast parade including stealth jets, nuclear missiles, attack helicopters and thousands of elite troops

CHINA launched an awesome show of its military might – just hours after warning Donald Trump about his involvement in North Korea.

Tens of thousands of Chinese troops marched alongside tanks and nuclear weapons as stealth fighters and attack helicopters roared overhead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF President Trump is unable to find another position other than supporting war against North Korea, we may well be looking at going forward with a war against China... and perhaps Russia.

Trump rips China after North Korea missile tests

A day after North Korea tested a ballistic missile that it claims can reach all of the United States, US President Donald Trump ripped China for not reining in Kim Jong Un and his missile program.

"I am very disappointed in China," Trump wrote in a pair of Twitter posts. "...they do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk. We will no longer allow this to continue. China could easily solve this problem!"

North Korea's test Friday of an intercontinental ballistic missile was its second of the long-range weapon in a month. The first on July 4 showed the missile had the range to reach Alaska.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please: what you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT TO SEE HAPPEN, is a war between the US, North Korea, and China, assisting North Korea against the US.

This country absolutely does not have the weaponry; the money; the manufacturing; or the troop strength to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against China.

What really needs to happen here, is a peace conference, to be attended by South and North Korea, China, Japan, and the US, which creates a peace treaty to supplant the existing armistice, with North Korea guaranteeing that they will stop its nuclear weapons program in exchange for unrestricted, unsanctioned trade.

Of course, that... would be logical.

Mr. President, in such a deal, everyone wins, and there is no chance of war with China.

Iran poised to launch rocket into space, as North Korea readies another missile test, US officials say

Two enemies of America are poised for upcoming rocket launches, two senior U.S. officials told Fox News, with another North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile launch expected as soon as Wednesday night and Iran on the verge of sending its own vehicle into space.

Iran's Simorgh space-launch vehicle is believed to be carrying a satellite, marking the second time in more than a year that Tehran has attempted to put an operational satellite into orbit -- something the Islamic Republic has never done successfully, according to one of the officials who has not authorized to discuss a confidential assessment.

Iran's last space launch in April 2016 failed to place a satellite into orbit, the official said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Note the conspiratorial tone of the article, as though there is a "linkage" between North Korea and Iran, because "North Korea and Iran have long been accused of sharing missile technology", an accusation which cannot be proven at this point.

Iran absolutely should NOT be looked at as an enemy; this is only happening because Israel sees it as an "existential threat" whose current government must, ultimately, be wiped off the face of the earth (using only American blood and American money, of course!).

Were it not for this poisonous sentiment, taken from a completely overblown, and thoroughly disingenuous representation of Iran's regional "threat" by Israel's government to that of the government of the US, Iran would be a natural trading partner for the US.

The IAEA has stated that Iran is in absolute, full compliance of the P5+1 accord.

The sanctions placed against Iran are stupid, counterproductive, and punitive; punishing Iran for doing something (like developing defensive missiles, which was NEVER a part of the P5+1 agreement) is not a way to get the country back to the negotiating table on other issues.

The sanctions placed against North Korea are about the same, and will only hasten that country's development of a guided, steerable nuclear device, which can get to where it is aiming.

Sometimes, I look at what the Federal government is doing and it (very painfully) reminds me; just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could be doing, is utterly no guarantee that it will not do it!!

US Nukes in Turkey Not Secure, Former US Defense Officials Say

Ex-Pentagon officials have called for the US to pull its nuclear weapons from Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base as tensions linger between Washington and Ankara.
Joseph Cirincione, president of the nonproliferation and anti-war Ploughshares Fund nonprofit, told Stars and Stripes that the Turkish base was the "worst place possible to be keeping"roughly 50 of Washington’s nukes.

A Turkish special forces policeman stands guard in front the damaged building of the police headquarters which was attacked by the Turkish warplanes during the failed military coup last Friday, in Ankara, Turkey, Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Cirincione said there are B61 gravity bombs stored at Incirlik, the maximum yield of which has 10 times the power of the bomb Washington dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.

Officials have also suggested relocating the 2,500 US troops currently housed at the base.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The questions are, how will the US get these nuclear weapons out of Turkey, if Erdogan refuses to return physical custody of those weapons to the US government?!?

And will Erdogan allow the 2500 US military on this base to leave?!?

Erdogan is going to demand some kind of "quid pro quo" for these steps to be taken, and they may well involve repatriating the Imam Gulen from the United States to Turkey, as Erdogan believes this man was complicit in the failed coup of last year.

CIA Gives More Power to Spies to Bolster Intelligence Operations. Pompeo: China, not Russia, poses greatest long-term threat

U.S. Faces Growing Threats From China, North Korea

Over the longer term, however, Pompeo singled out China as the most serious security challenge.

While China, Russia, and Iran all are expected to pose significant problems in the future, China is a greater threat because of its robust economy and growing military power—both aimed against the United States.

"I think China has the capacity to present the greatest rivalry to America of any of those over the medium and long term," he said.

China's military is building up forces that are aimed at countering U.S. power projection around the world, he said.

"So you see that, whether it's going on in the South China or East China Sea, or the work they're doing in other parts of the world," Pompeo said.

In acquiring foreign technology, he noted: "If you look at them, they are probably trying either to steal our stuff, or make sure they can defeat it. And most often, both."

Webmaster's Commentary:

China's burgeoning economy, and its ability to make things people want to actually buy, is definitely a problem for the US government; please remember that the iphone...is made in China.

China's weaponry is on point to match, or exceed the capabilities of US-made weaponry, because the culture of the military/industrial complex in this country has become decadent, to the point where CEOS of the companies making our weapons, planes, and ships, believe it is perfectly acceptable to deliver products so late as to be obsolete by the time they are field-tested; to deliver products which absolutely cannot perform as advertised (think: Lockheed Martin's F-35), and have cost overruns which make the budgets for these items wildly out of control.

IF we are going to have a tiny chance to defeat the Chinese in military combat, which may well be coming, to attempt to destroy the yuan, this has to change.

As those of you who read this blog understand, I detest war as a method of resolving geopolitical conflicts; that being said, when our military is tasked with being at war, they deserve the best the military/industrial complex can provide.

And right now, they are not getting that, and not by a long shot.

THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS UNDERMINING US NATIONAL SECURITY

The ongoing problems with the F-35 and other military programs, stemming from virtually unlimited budgets, underline the inefficiency of the American military-industrial complex (MIC). In contrast, Moscow develops armaments capable of counteracting the latest technological advances of the US at minimal cost.

One of a state’s most insidious mechanisms is the inefficiency of the military-industrial sector. When looking at the world's first superpower, this becomes all the more pronounced. Still, the ongoing problems highlighted by the F-35 program and failed missile interceptions by ABM systems are a good demonstration of how inefficiency in the US military sector has risen to worrying levels.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This culture of waste, and a complete lack of meritocracy, on such a massive scale, must be dealt with.

For far too long, the US military has put up with equipment which is delivered so late as to be obsolete; does not perform as advertised; and is riddled with massive cost overruns.

President Trump needs to change this; there need to be stringent checks in place to prevent this from continuing, including jailing executives of companies which fail to deliver working, cost-contained, and state-of-the-art weapons for our military.

As draconian as this sounds, it would definitely be a move which would change the culture of this industry forever in this country.

But of course, this will only change when pigs fly; the military industrial complex owns this government, covertly and overtly, and they know it.

This is why the next major war in which the US government and military is involved will most probably be a war it cannot win.

With Washington’s Blessing, Seoul to Mount 1-Ton Warhead on Ballistic Missile

Seeking to increase the chances of taking out North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the event of war, South Korea wants to boost its 500-mile range ballistic missile warhead from 1100 pounds to one ton.

By doubling the warhead size, Seoul asserts that it can mitigate the threat of nuclear attack by the People's Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK), and strike underground bunkers where the Pyongyang brass will hide in the event of war, according to the Korea Times.

But to make the dream a reality, Seoul must first get the approval of Washington, as an existing treaty between the allies describing guidelines for the country's missiles prevents the kind of upgrades sought by the South Korean military.

Webmaster's Commentary:

looking at the rapid escalation of North Korea's missile program, I would suspect that permission on this will happen sooner than later, and that it may even happen before this upcoming Security Conference.

Impossible to Prevent US Weapons Sent to Ukraine From Expanding Conflict

Once the United States ships weapons to Ukraine it will be impossible to prevent them from being used for offensive purposes as well, former CIA officer Phil Giraldi told Sputnik.

The US government is pushing ahead with plans to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine despite concerns in the Department of State that they could be used to escalate violence and increase the risk of conflict with Russia.
"On the ground, tank destroying missile systems would by their very nature be quite usable in an offensive, mobile fashion to neutralize any disadvantage in armor," Giraldi said.

Giraldi observed that the tactical impact of such an arms package had been seriously discussed in US military and government s circles.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The shipping of US weapons to Ukraine will almost inevitably lead to war with Russia.

And then, we have this little "gem" of a faux pas, courtesy of President Trump's ambassador to Ukraine in an interview yesterday:

US President Donald Trump's new representative for the Ukraine, Kurt Volker, says Washington is considering giving arms to Kiev. In an astonishingly naive interview, he said he did not believe arming the Ukrainians would be a provocative gesture.

Forgive me, but has this gentleman gone absolutely foaming at the mouth, barking dog mad, to have made this observation?!?

Russia will almost surely see this as an overt act of war against it, and retaliate in kind.

A statistically significant poll of the American adult Internet population reveals that 52.4% believe the US government would mislead them "about a foreign government’s use of chemical weapons in order to justify US military action." 45.7% responded that they did not believe the US government would mislead them, while the remainder (1.9%) provided other responses.

6.20 pm: North Korea warns Donald Trump of 'powerful nuclear hammer'

Pyongyang is ram pig up its threats in a bid to dissuade the US from attempting to remove Kim Jong-un from power.

A foreign ministry spokesman, quoted in the state-controlled Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), said: “Should the US dare to show even the slightest sign of attempt to remove our supreme leadership, we will strike a merciless blow at the heart of the US with our powerful nuclear hammer, honed and hardened over time.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The ONLY thing which will work here will be getting all parties to the negotiating table (China, the US, North, South Koreas, and Japan) and to hammer out a peace deal, supplanting the existing armistice, which guarantees North Korea the right to unrestricted, unsanctioned trade, in exchange for North Korea ending its nuclear weapons program.

Of course, THAT... would be logical.

And we already had that statement a couple of days ago from General Dunford, attempting to "groom" the American people for a potential war against North Korea:

A North Korean Military Option is Not Unimaginable

Unfortunately, just because something would be the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid thing for the American government and military could do, is utterly no guarantee that they won't do it.

I would hope that President Trump's response, should there be another North Korean missile test soon, will be measured; my gut is telling me, however, that the warmongers among his closest advisors will not let that happen.

Hitler came within a whisker of making a nuke before the US captured his enriched uranium and used it to make the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, new book claims

Hitler came close to making a nuke before the US captured his enriched uranium and used it to make the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, a new book has claimed.

American forces forced the surrender of Nazi U-Boat 234 as it was heading for Japan on May 15, 1945 and found it was carrying high profile Nazis, including German general Ulrich Kessler as well as scientists and engineers.

It was also carrying the uranium Hitler failed to turn into a nuclear weapon in time to save his crumbling Reich.

INSIDE THE APOCALYPTIC SOVIET DOOMSDAY MACHINE

"The Perimeter system is very, very nice," he says. "We remove unique responsibility from high politicians and the military." He looks around again.

Yarynich is talking about Russia's doomsday machine. That's right, an actual doomsday device—a real, functioning version of the ultimate weapon, always presumed to exist only as a fantasy of apocalypse-obsessed science fiction writers and paranoid über-hawks. The thing that historian Lewis Mumford called "the central symbol of this scientifically organized nightmare of mass extermination." Turns out Yarynich, a 30-year veteran of the Soviet Strategic Rocket Forces and Soviet General Staff, helped build one.

A spherical bunker in Russia was the most secure place in the entire Cold War

The Dead Hand system was the Soviet Union's last line of deterrence in the event of a crippling nuclear strike, a way to inflict millions of casualties on its enemies even if the Soviet chain of command were decapitated.

The system was set up in 1985, not long after the most serious war scare of the late Cold War period. It's been likened to a real-life doomsday machine, and it isn't decisively known if the Kremlin's dismantled it.

David Hoffman, a Washington Post contributing editor and author of a Pulitzer Prize-winning history of the Cold War nuclear arms race, recently described the mechanics of the Dead Hand system on arms control scholar Jeffrey Lewis's podcast. The Dead Hand or "perimeter," which Hoffman characterized as a "system of guaranteed retaliation," had a critical human safeguard, bunkered in an incredibly strange underground chamber.

MOAB: US Attack Causes Catastrophic Consequences in Afghanistan

On April 13, the US dropped a non-atomic bomb in the Achin district of the Afghan province of Nangarhar, known as the “Mother of All Bombs” or MOAB. Following the incident the citizens who survived are showing signs of horrible diseases.

One of the employees of the Health Care Corps of the Achin district in an interview with Sputnik, on condition of anonymity, stated that after this incident, the residents of the district began to show skin and eye diseases.

According to him, the symptoms found in these civilians are very likely indicative of radiation exposure that could have been caused by the presence of uranium inside the dropped bomb.

Ray McGovern’s Day in Court

Ray will be in Court Wednesday and Thursday in Syracuse to face the music. He and his Catholic Worker, Jewish mother, and other friends twice blocked the main entrance and exit to Hancock drone base to call attention to the push-of-the-computer-button cowardly killings done in our name. Those of you who, like our Quaker friends, are in the practice of holding Justice people in the Light, please do.

Here is a link to a piece Ray wrote a few years ago on the moral imperative of activism; even more necessary now.

Pasted in below are a couple of links. Ray is grateful to have fallen in with the very best people to be in trouble with, witnessing at Hancock Drone Base, Syracuse, New York

Webmaster's Commentary:

I met this man in New York when he was a featured speaker at a conference where Mike was also present to present evidence on 9/11; he is a gentleman of great moral courage, and someone I respect for his peaceful protests against things like the drone bases.

Extrajudicial assassinations have absolutely no place in American law, nor should they, although President Obama loved to order these.

What they appear to ultimately accomplish is create more radicalisation in the countries where they are used, which translates to a permanent state of warfare, which always makes the US's military industrial complex happy.

This is the most current commentary I could find on the Mc Govern trial, and it is dated just one week ago:

Chechnya’s Leader Claims “Russian Doomsday Device” Is Activated

Kadyrov said, “America is not really a strong enough state for us to regard it as an enemy of Russia. We have a strong government and are a nuclear state. Even if our government was completely destroyed, our nuclear missiles would be automatically deployed. We will put the whole world on its knees and screw it from behind.” That comment certainly puts the left’s insistence on a war with Russia in perspective. And Kadyrov is probably being more accurate than not in that statement.

According to The New York Times, Russia built a system in the 1980s that could do what Kadyrov described, known as the Perimeter System. Bruce Blair, the former US nuclear officer who broke the story of the Perimeter System for The New York Times in 1993, told Business Insider that the system works when it detects nuclear explosions. Only a small crew, deep in a bunker, has a hand in the otherwise automated system, according to Blair.

CONGRESS TRYING TO SNEAK THROUGH MAJOR GIVEAWAY TO DEFENSE CONTRACTORS

CONGRESS IS ON THE BRINK of a major giveaway to defense contractors, tucking language into a must-pass piece of legislation that would broadly expand their ability to gouge the federal government on sole-source contracts.

The National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, is practically the only bill Congress passes on time every year. The last 50 NDAA’s, which authorize funds and set policy for the Department of Defense, have reached the president’s desk without a holdup. Education, healthcare, and jobs can wait, but supporting the troops — actually, supporting the defense contractors who make the weapons — must never face a delay. The bill even goes through a regular process, with dozens of amendments and bipartisan votes. It’s like nothing else in Washington.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This...absolutely bites, folks!!

And given the inferior weaponry defense contractors are selling to our military these days, with huge cost over-runs, and weapons delivered so late as to be nearly obsolete by the time they get into the hands of our military, this is the absolute, polar opposite of what should be happening with the US's weapons makers.

Of course, like their corporate colleagues in the private prison industry and the petroleum industry, defense contractors are enormously adept at "compensating", both directly and covertly, congressional representative who steer contracts their way.

Begala: We Should ‘Debate Whether We Should Blow Up’ Russia

Long-time Clinton family ally Paul Begala on Wednesday evening seemingly suggested President Trump should consider bombing Russia in response to the Kremlin’s meddling in the 2016 election. Speaking with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, the former adviser to Bill Clinton lamented how Trump supporters don’t seem particularly outraged about Russia’s meddling in American affairs. “We were and are under attack by a hostile foreign power,” he said, “and... we should be debating how many sanctions we should place on Russia or whether we should blow up the KGB, GSU, or GRU [Russia’s foreign intelligence agency].” He continued: “If I was Trump, I would be mad because it has tainted his victory.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. Begala, forgive me, but I must ask; have you gone absolutely foaming at the mouth, mad-dog insane, to suggest such a thing?!?

And sir, did you not get the memo the the "Big Lie" went out with the whoopie cushion, and the dribble glass?!?

As to the evidence, the Democrats not only have not presented a shred of evidence that this happened, but they also will not allow top US investigators into their private servers; so what's up here?!?

USA Preventing Inspection of Chemicals Weapons in Syria, Says Russia

The United States by all means tries to prevent the sending of experts to investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria, denounced today Mikhail Ulianov, director of the arms control department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

What is logical is that Washington seeks collaboration of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to investigate what happened last April in Jen-Sheijun, Syria's Idlib province, considered Ulianov.

However, he said, the United States at all times prevented the sending of OPCW specialists to both Jen-Sheijun and the Al Shairat air base, attacked on April 7 with 59 US Tomahawk missiles.

Don’t Be Fooled, There Is No ‘Diplomacy’ With North Korea

China and South Korea both favor the diplomatic approach, and both have been pushing the Trump Administration to consider serious proposals for a broad deal. While there are several variations, at the core of the proposal involves North Korea totally freezing both their nuclear and missile programs, the U.S. halting wargames, and reducing the American military footprint on the Korean Peninsula.

It’s not a bad deal, and gives the U.S. what it wants. That South Korea is backing the deal is particularly significant, showing that they’re willing to give up the annual war exercise, and see some of the U.S. troops withdraw from their territory, in return for these concessions. The White House is not only sour on the specifics of the idea, but is rejecting such proposals out of hand, insisting they don’t want to make any deals that involve lifting any economic or military pressure on North Korea.

U.S. DOUBLED FUEL SUPPORT FOR SAUDI BOMBING CAMPAIGN IN YEMEN AFTER DEADLY STRIKE ON FUNERAL

Last October, an airstrike in Yemen by the Saudi Arabia-led coalition hit a funeral, killing more than 130 people and drawing global condemnation. Yet in the months following that strike, the United States doubled the amount of fuel it provided to coalition jets, according to figures obtained from the U.S. military. The numbers underline the fact that U.S. support for the campaign has continued and even increased despite growing attention to civilian casualties and alleged war crimes by the coalition.

But the House of Representatives just passed over the chance to vote on legislation that would have tracked the fuel the Pentagon gives to the Saudi coalition and prohibited refueling of coalition aircraft unless the Pentagon could assure Congress that subsequent missions wouldn’t hit civilians or targets contained on no-strike lists.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To be a citizen of a country which enables Saudi war crimes in Yemen is just repulsive to me.

And here is what these bombings accomplish; the assassination of infants; children; and the elderly physically infirm. Warning: the following image is very graphic; but as a Christian witness to this genocide, I feel compelled to share this with our readers:

Images: Yemeni children killed and maimed for life from Saudi bombings

This, folks, is what is being done in Yemen, with your tax dollars and in your name.

We urgently need to be having a national dialogue on how enabling this Saudi genocide in Yemen is "protecting" us, and our quality of life here in the US.
And the short answer is, it isn't; not one bit.

Trump to Admit Iran Is Complying With Nuclear Deal

While President Trump campaigned repeatedly on the idea of the US pulling out of the P5+1 nuclear deal in Iran, much of that has hinged on being able to claim in some way that Iran isn’t keeping up its end of the bargain. The problem is, they are.

Facing a deadline of Monday, President Trump is going to have to re-certify to Congress that Iran is totally complying with its obligations under the P5+1 deal, which effectively delays his expected effort to force a “renegotiation,” an idea that no other party of the treaty seems at all interested in.

The fact that Iran is complying with the deal is no surprise, of course, as the IAEA issues monthly reports to that effect anyhow. Still, it wasn’t a slam dunk that the administration was going to tell the truth, and there was speculation that they might withhold the re-certification.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please; attempting to double down on lies to cause the P5+1 deal to collapse, as did your Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, is just plain counterproductive, not to mention painfully embarrassing, when the IAEA, which is constantly inspecting Iran's sites, states plainly that it continues to be in compliance with the deal.

Once Aimed at Pakistan, Indian Nuclear Program Sets Missile Sights on China

Hans M. Kristensen and Robert S. Norris belong to a select group of experts keen on writing and researching all things nuclear. Norris is currently a senior fellow at the Federation of American Scientists in Washington while Kristensen directs the Nuclear Information Project at FAS. The pair have co-authored the Nuclear Notebook since 1987, “widely regarded as the most accurate source of information on nuclear weapons and weapons facilities available to the public,” according to publisher Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

Next-generation ballistic missiles can be placed in central and southern India and reach nearly every region in China, the researchers said in their 2017 report on Indian nuclear forces published this month.

The duo estimate plutonium production in India allows for the creation of 150 to 200 warheads. So far, they believe between 120 and 130 nukes have been completed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Considering recent border skirmishes between India and China, this is a very worrisome turn of events; I would like to hope that the Indian government sees its nuclear weapons as a deterrent, but not first-strike weapons, but right now, that is impossible to discern, effectively.

NEOCONS GET IN HERE: TUCKER CARLSON JUST HUMILIATED MAX BOOT ON NATIONAL TV

Over the past 30 years, the neocons have presided over the worst foreign policies in American history -- pursuing their Trotskyite schemes of war that have accelerated to an ebb tide that peaked during Bush the Idiot's reign.

Men like Max Boot, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld, Bill Kristol, Richard Perle, and many others, have attached themselves to the republican party like a cancerous tumor -- transforming it from a checkered pants, cigar smoked room, boys club into a satanic cult out for the blood of the indigenous.

At the root of the neocon "plan", being disciples of Trotsky, is the destruction of "Mother Russia." It's in their blood -- because they're still mad at Stalin. This has been a constant since the 50's. It was only after the Berlin Wall fell and there was a detente between the United States and Russia in the 90s did these revolutionaries affix themselves to the GOP with real energy.

U.S. BOMBS WITH WHITE PHOSPHOROUS WHILE BLAMING ASSAD FOR USING ‘SARIN’

On June 14th, Human Rights Watch headlined “Danger From US White Phosphorous”, and linked to far more evidence of America’s firebombings in Syria and Iraq, than had ever been presented regarding the alleged-by-America April 4th sarin gas event that allegedly resulted in Syria from one of Assad’s bombs on that day having hit a ‘rebel’ warehouse that might have had sarin in it — a mistake if it had even happened as America charged it happened. America then on April 7th missile-bombed in ‘retaliation’ one of Assad’s military airports, a supposed ‘punishment’, which was praised by U.S. ’news’media for that additional U.S. invasion of Syria’s sovereign territory, where the U.S. is an occupier and an enemy-invader instead of any legal participant in the war there. (Russia and Syria urged an independent investigation to determine what had actually happened on April 4th; it was “blocked by Western delegations without any explanations.”)

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a Christian pacifist activist, I am appalled that I am a citizen of a country which so frequently indulges in war crimes with such impunity.

IF, in fact, this is what is truly the meaning of "American exceptionalism", which appears to be "assassinate at will to support specific geopolitical agendas", I want none of it, thank you very much!!

A nuclear warhead strike could trigger worldwide climate change, resulting in billions of deaths from drought and famine, chilling study warns

A new report found that warheads of magnitudes already owned by several major nuclear powers could trigger climate change as the resulting black ash causes temperatures to drop, leading to drought, famine, and billions of deaths.

The researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln investigated 19 types of weapons currently held by five major nuclear powers: the US, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France.

According to the report, it would take just a handful of these bombs to bring on disastrous effects that would ripple worldwide.

US Forces Could Have Killed Kim Jong-un on July 4 But Didn’t Take the Shot

This is helpful.

The US military generally knows when North Korean missile tests will occur, but of course hasn’t launched a pre-emptive strike to stop one. But it’s “unusual” that the US would allow it to leak that Kim could have been eliminated and wasn’t, Baker explained.

The consultant believes it’s possible Washington allowed the information to leak to show that it doesn’t want to kill Kim at any chance it gets, in hopes that even an olive branch that small could persuade North Korea to slow the pace of its ballistic missile and nuclear program development.

F-35 Program Costs Jump to $406.5 Billion in Latest Estimate

The cost of the F-35 jet program, already the most expensive U.S. weapons program ever, is estimated to climb further as the plane’s production period gets extended, according to figures submitted to Congress on Monday.

Total acquisition costs for Lockheed Martin Corp.’s next-generation fighter may rise about 7 percent to $406.5 billion, according to figures in a document known as a Selected Acquisition Report. That’s a reversal after several years of estimates that had declined to $379 billion recently from a previous high of $398.5 billion in early 2014.

The Pentagon’s F-35 program office said in a statement that the $27.5 billion increase is reflected in current “then-year” dollars that cover research, development, procurement and military construction. The separate roughly $1.1 trillion long-term operations and support estimate to keep the aircraft flying until 2070 increased by $35.3 billion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why in the name of heaven is the Pentagon allowing this incredible waste on on one of it's biggest boondoggles ever?!? Because they cannot admit how wrong they were to greenlight production in the first place?!?

Were I President Trump, I would retire the fighter, have the "male attributes" to admit that it was a very flawed project, from its inception and not allow Lockheed Martin to bid on any military work whatsoever for at least the next 20 years.

Corporate failure to present a fighter that works as advertised can no longer be tolerated by the President, the Pentagon, and Congress.

Sarin Unaccounted For At U.S. Army's Dugway Proving Ground

A new internal US Army investigation found that the most deadly chemical and biological agents known to man were improperly handled and tracked at the Army's Dugway Proving Ground. Dugway was the focus of international headlines in a 2015 investigation which found that "egregious safety failures" over the period of a decade resulted in the shipping of live anthrax spores to 194 laboratories located in 50 states and nine foreign countries via commercial shipping companies like FedEx. At the time of the 2015 scandal, over two dozen personnel at Dugway were treated for potential anthrax exposure, and an Army review board disciplined ten civilian and military overseers, which included "career-killing" reprimands of the base commander, Brig. Gen. William King.

Pentagon Gives Lockheed Billions to Keep Working on F-35s

The Defense Department has awarded Lockheed Martin Corp. a $4.49 billion undefinitized contract action to continue production on the latest batch of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters even as it continues to negotiate a firm price for the fifth-generation jets.

The UCA — a type of contract in which bottom-line terms or prices have not been agreed upon before performance is begun — stipulates a max price of $5.6 billion for Lockheed to continue working on the Low Rate Initial Production, or LRIP, lot 11 jets, according to the F-35 Joint Program Office.

Lockheed is “expending money to keep the production line going,” JPO spokesman Joe DellaVedova told Military.com via telephone on Friday. So “we want to pay them for the work they they’re doing [to] obligate funds for the Lot 11 aircraft.”

The prices for individual jets are still being determined, according to the office.

Scott Adams: International Relations in a Time of Nukes and Plenty

In olden days, if a neighboring kingdom was prosperous and capable, it was a risk to your security. A rich neighbor can assemble powerful armies to capture your resources and enslave your people. In those primitive times, any powerful empire was a real enemy, and you had to treat them as such.

Fast-forward to 2017, and some of those old rules have changed. A rich country with nuclear weapons won’t attack a weak country with nuclear weapons. Economics and national defense are somewhat disconnected in modern times. Nukes changed everything.

Did John Wayne die of cancer caused by a radioactive movie set?

I'm horrified to have to report this, John, but your girlfriend's claim is only slightly exaggerated. Of the 220 persons who worked on The Conqueror on location in Utah in 1955, 91 had contracted cancer as of the early 1980s and 46 died of it, including stars John Wayne, Susan Hayward, and Agnes Moorehead, and director Dick Powell. Experts say under ordinary circumstances only 30 people out of a group of that size should have gotten cancer. The cause? No one can say for sure, but many attribute the cancers to radioactive fallout from U.S. atom bomb tests in nearby Nevada. The whole ghastly story is told in The Hollywood Hall of Shame by Harry and Michael Medved. But let's start at the beginning.

102 SHOT, 15 FATALLY, IN CHICAGO OVER JULY 4TH HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The violence plaguing Chicago made international headlines Wednesday, after a violent and bloody Fourth of July weekend. Of the 102 people shot since Friday night, 15 have died. Police said most of the shootings happened Monday night on the South and West sides of the city."You just destroyed somebody's family," one of the victim's relatives, John Davis, said. His uncle, 56-year-old Tyrone Burdine, was fatally shot Tuesday evening in front of his home, with children narrowly escaping the gunfire."Here comes this car speeding through the alley, shooting.

Haley: US Will Use Military In North Korea "If It Must"

The war drums are beating louder, and as US Ambassador to the UN Nicky Haley said moments ago as she speaks live (webcast), the North Korea launch is clear, sharp military escalation and the US will use the full range of its capabilities in North Korea including military force, "if it must." Her key soundbites from Reuters and Bloomberg:

HALEY: PREPARED TO USE THE FULL RANGE OF ITS CAPABILITIES TO DETER NORTH KOREA, INCLUDING MILITARY FORCE "IF WE MUST"

HALEY: U.S. WON'T HAVE PATIENCE FOR WATERED DOWN UN RESOLUTION

She also said that an escalated response needed in wake of ICBM launch, and sent a clear warning to China over supporting N. Korea whose launch shows North Korea "does not want to be part of a peaceful world":

HALEY SAYS COUNTRIES ALLOWING TRADE WITH NORTH KOREA IN VIOLATION OF U.N. SANCTIONS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TRADE WITH U.S.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is getting about as serious as is a heart attack, and escalating rapidly.

IF the US uses force, outside the limits of whatever Security Council Resolution is created, stemming from this emergency meeting, we are potentially looking at war with China, and this would be horrific indeed.

President Trump and his advisors could step down the rhetoric, by offering a little bit with which to negotiate with North Korea, perhaps by not having as many joint drills with the South Korean military, or eliminating them completely.

But President Trump and Rex Tillerson will not agree to this.

What could be offered to North Korea would be getting South Korea, North Korea, the US, and China to the negotiating table to agree to a complete peace deal, normalizing trade, and dropping financial sanctions, with which to replace the armistice, with the quid pro quo being that North Korea stops its nuclear weapons development program, with inspections to verify compliance, as is happening with Iran.

Unfortunately, this... would be logical. I don't know what Ambassador Haley's rhetoric is signaling, but it does not appear to me to be a peaceful, rational way of dealing with the issue of North Korea's weapons development program.

Britain's warhead-watcher to simulate Trident nukes with Atos supercomputer

The Atomic Weapons Establishment, which provides warheads for the UK's nuclear weapons, is going to use a Bull supercomputer to simulate Trident nuclear warhead explosions.

Warhead components change over time through ageing, obsolescence and redesign, which impacts their operational efficiency. The AWE can't run test explosions any more, under the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (to which the UK is signed up), which bans emission of nuclear yield (radioactive debris). Instead, AWE simulates atomic explosions with digital modelling and needs supercomputing facilities to do so.

Scott Adams: Solving the North Korea Situation

I have some spare time this morning so I thought I would solve the North Korean nuclear threat problem.

The current frame on how all sides are approaching the problem is a win-lose setup. Either North Korea wins – and develops nukes that can reach the mainland USA – or the United States wins, and North Korea abandons its nuclear plans, loses face, loses leverage, and loses security. Our current framing of the situation doesn’t have a path to success.

So how do you fix that situation?

Pentagon Withholds Nuclear Base Inspection Results

Pass-Fail results of Pentagon inspections of America’s nuclear weapons facilities have historically been a better of public record, and one which has proven a repeated embarrassment, as those inspections have repeatedly shown substandard performance and disastrously bad security.

Officials seem to have figured a way around that, as they have begun withholding inspection results, including the very basic pass-fail details that the media usually knows about. This was apparently an internal policy recommendation as a reaction to all the embarrassing failures.

The real goal seems obvious. Facts about the systematic failures within America’s nuclear weapons program lead to embarrassing media coverage, and keeping those facts secret is ultimately much simpler than actually making improvements so the inspections are all passed.

Pentagon vows to protect US & allies after Pyongyang’s ‘escalatory ICBM test’

The Pentagon has vowed to defend the US and its allies against any possible North Korean threat after Washington confirmed Pyongyang’s claim that it has developed the technology to potentially deliver a nuclear warhead to the US mainland.
The Pentagon has concluded that North Korea test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that can potentially strike the United States. Initially, the US military had assessed the missile fired Tuesday morning to be of an intermediate-range category.

“We remain prepared to defend ourselves and our allies and to use the full range of capabilities at our disposal against the growing threat from North Korea,” Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement. White also condemned Pyongyang’s "escalatory launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Here is the problem: Russia and China have put forth a completely reasonable proposal Russia, China: N. Korea must freeze nuclear activities, US halt THAAD deployment, which the US government has utterly rejected out of hand.

Unless there is a little conciliation, on the part of the US government, there is zero incentive for North Korea to come to the negotiating tables, and hammer out a peace agreement, with no trade restrictions or sanctions against North Korea, in exchange for it abandoning its nuclear weapons program.

If negotiations prove impossible, according to the current administration's thinking, that leaves only one option; a military attack against North Korea, which would leave thousands of South Koreans dead and wounded, and most probably insure that China would come to the military aid of its client state, North Korea.

SAUDI ARABIA ‘TOP OF THE LIST’ OF FOREIGN FUNDING FOR BRITISH TERRORISTS – THINK TANK

Britain’s major trade and security partner in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, is the main source of funding for Islamist extremism in the UK, a damning new report by the neo-conservative Henry Jackson Society (HJS) claims.

According to the HJS, money donated to terrorist organizations operating in Britain can be traced back to the Gulf states.

It says the Saudis’ 60-year commitment to the diffusion of Wahhabism, a hardline version of Islam, has led to the funding of British mosques and institutions linked to the wave of attacks in Europe over the last few years.

“There is a clear and growing link between foreign funding of Islamist extremism and the violent terrorism we have witnessed across the UK and Europe,” said the report’s author, Tom Wilson.

“The key now is to get ahead of the issue and find out the full extent of what has been going on. A public inquiry would go some way to informing the debate.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

And one of the biggest areas of trade between the UK and Saudi Arabia has been in weapons.

Does UK’s lucrative arms trade come at the cost of political repression?

The UK has made 10 times more in arms sales to Saudi Arabia than it's given in aid to Yemen

UK activists demand end to Saudi Arabia, UAE arms sales

As long as the money is made, the UK's government, and the UK merchants of death, do not give a rat's anus as to how, or against whom, those weapons are used. Let's look at the genocide Saudi Arabia is inflicting in Yemen, shall we?!?

Saudi campaign has killed 1,400 Yemeni kids, UNICEF says (It is now July, 2017; we can be reasonably certain that the figure is considerably higher at this point).

And the domestic cost of violence and death is simply a small price to pay, according to the UK government, courtesy of radicalised youth who suddenly act out against their neighbors, or the general population as a whole.

Keep Prepping Because The Government’s Plan To Survive Nuclear War Doesn’t Include You

Needless to say, the United States has changed a lot since we officially declared our independence in 1776. What used to be a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people has become a nation of the government, by the government and for the government. The centralization of the federal bureaucracy and the accumulation of governmental power has created a significant divide between the people and the political elites in Washington D.C. These political elites seem to have developed a mentality that they deserve special privileges that the rest of the American people do not, such as the ability to keep classified information on a private server and not be prosecuted and exemptions from the Affordable Care Act.

But it’s not only political privileges that government officials enjoy; it turns out that they also have a plan in place to help them survive some kind of nuclear disaster, and that plan doesn’t include you.

US vows it will 'never accept a nuclear North Korea' after new missile test

They already have nukes Rex. Trump, dissing China by tweet isn't going over well either.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson vowed Tuesday that the U.S. would "never accept a nuclear-armed North Korea" while U.S. and South Korean forces held joint ballistic missile drills after the Communist nation successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile.

US AIR FORCE REPORTEDLY DEPLOYS JASSM MISSILES TO KUNSAN AB

It looks like the US Air Force has added a new tool to their toolbox of weapons to deal with any North Korean contingency:

The U.S. military has deployed to South Korea state-of-the-art missiles equipped with precision strike capability for a possible North Korea contingency.

Multiple diplomatic sources said on Monday that to their knowledge, U.S. Forces Korea(USFK) recently put in place around ten Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles(JASSM) at its air base in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province.
It is also known that the missiles can be mounted on F-16 fighter jets deployed to South Korea on a regular and rotational basis.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is escalating very quickly.

I am hoping and praying that China's President Xi Jinping and President Trump have a moment to talk about the rapidly evolving North Korean military capabilities, and come up with a plan that doesn't involve a war, or decap strike here.

My suggestion would be for there to be a conference including China; South Korea; North Korea; and the US, where a full peace treaty would be offered to North Korea with which to replace the existing armistice, in return for North Korea dropping its weapons development program.

Of course, that... would be logical.

CONGRESS WILL MAKE SURE TAXPAYERS KEEP SENDING MONEY TO TERRORISTS

One of the few elected Democratic lawmakers with an extensive anti-war record, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), has combined forces with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) to push legislation through both the House and the Senate that would bar federal agencies from using taxpayer-backed funds to provide weapons, training, intelligence, or any other type of support to terrorist cells such as al-Qaeda, ISIS, or any other group that is associated with them in any way.

The Stop Arming Terrorists Act is so unique that it’s also the only bill of its kind that would also bar the government from funneling money and weapons through other countries that support (directly or indirectly) terrorists such as Saudi Arabia.

To our surprise — or should we say shame? — only 13 other lawmakers out of hundreds have co-sponsored Gabbard’s House bill. Paul’s Senate version of the bill, on the other hand, has zero co-sponsors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This, folks, is the reason that the Unhinged Surveilled State of America is in a state of perpetual warfare around the world.

And this...is precisely to what Karl Marx alluded, when he made the observation that all wars are economic in nature.

US TIGHTENS SECURITY ON NUCLEAR INSPECTIONS

The Pentagon has thrown a cloak of secrecy over assessments of the safety and security of its nuclear weapons operations, a part of the military with a history of periodic inspection failures and bouts of low morale.

Overall results of routine inspections at nuclear weapons bases, such as a "pass-fail" grade, had previously been publicly available. They are now off-limits. The change goes beyond the standard practice of withholding detailed information on the inspections.

The stated reason for the change is to prevent adversaries from learning too much about U.S. nuclear weapons vulnerabilities. Navy Capt. Greg Hicks, spokesman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the added layer of secrecy was deemed necessary.

PYONGYANG FIRES MEDIUM-RANGE BALLISTIC MISSILE FROM REGION BORDERING CHINA INTO SEA OF JAPAN

North Korea successfully launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile on Tuesday morning, the country’s state television reported. The Hwasong-14 ICBM flew some 933 kilometers in 39 minutes reaching an altitude of 2,802 kilometers.

The ICBM is capable of reaching any target in the world, North Korean state TV said, as cited by Reuters. The test was reportedly carried out under the supervision of North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un.

“The test launch was conducted at the sharpest angle possible and did not have any negative effect on neighboring countries,” North Korean state media said, as cited by Reuters.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said earlier that Pyongyang had conducted another ballistic missile test on Tuesday morning. The projectile, described by the South as an “unidentified ballistic missile,” was launched towards the Sea of Japan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Kim Jung Un may well not know a bloody thing about ballistic missiles; but he is no slouch on timing, as this event was timed to happen right before the G 20 meeting in Hamburg.

The intelligent response would be for China, South Korea, Japan, and the US show a united front, and negotiate a legitimate peace treaty with North Korea to replace the armistice, guaranteeing trade, and lifting any and all sanctions, in return for Kim Jung Un's stopping his nuclear missile program.

But of course, that...would be logical.
And I have rather given up on the Unhinged Surveilled States of America doing anything that even begins to smack of logic for We the People in the 21st century.

So look for some genuine American Deep State stupidity to prevail unilaterally, manifested perhaps as some kind of horrific bombing, or a decap strike on Pyongyang.

China Demands US Halt $1.42 Billion Arms Sale to Taiwan

Chinese officials are expressing outrage today at the announcement of the US planning to sell $1.42 billion in arms to the island of Taiwan, saying that it is “the wrong decision” by the US and sends a wrong message about Taiwan’s status. They are demanding the US immediately halt the sale.

America’s “One China Policy” makes this an annual matter of no small difficulty, as officially the US has a policy of not recognizing Taiwan as a country, but also has a policy of selling them vast amounts of weaponry on an annual basis.

Chinese officials, however, say this was all already discussed at Mar-a-Lago back in April, when President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met for the first time, and that the two had reached “a consensus” which this arms sale is violating.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Chinese President Xi Jinping sees President Trump as going back on his word from the consensus he reached with Trump during the Mar-a-Largo meetings, this is going to put a tremendous strain on US/Chinese relations.

Amid Corruption Scandal, Germany Approves Sale of Three Submarines to Israel

Germany’s national security council has approved a controversial $1.5 billion defense deal to sell Israel three submarines with nuclear capabilities, according to Der Spiegel magazine.

As Israel seeks to replace its aging submarine fleet, it’s deal with Germany has been dogged by allegations of corruption ever since it was revealed that Miki Ganor, Israel’s intermediary for the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems shipbuilding company, retained David Shimron, the personal lawyer and cousin of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to act on his behalf during the transaction.

America's Death Throes

China and Russia have already ditched the US dollar in their vast energy trade. Now China is leveraging Saudi Arabia to also abandon the greenback for oil sales. No wonder, it seems, that US policies are increasingly lashing out.

US global power depends on its presumed economic prowess and military force. With its economy in long-term decline, precipitated by the teetering dollar, the US rulers are relying increasingly on militarism to project power. That tendency is pushing the world to war.

The challenge is to somehow steer the American military monster into a safe berth without eliciting a world war.

A Quick Glance At Bunkers That Will House Thousands During Nuclear Attack

A bunker built inside a hollowed-out mountain in Colorado is only one of many secret shelters where 7,000 Americans will go to hide out from devastating nuclear annihilation. But don’t get your hopes up. These bunkers will only house the elites; those in government, while the rest struggle to survive.

Garrett Graff, the author of the book, “Raven Rock: The U.S. Government’s Secret Plan to Save Itself While the Rest of Us Die,” spoke to Inside Edition about his findings related to these secret shelters. The book is said to offer the “eye-opening” truth about the government’s plans to survive a nuclear war while a super majority of civilians will die. Not only that, the government’s money is taken from us, the taxpayer. We are paying for bunkers that we won’t be allowed to use.

Flashback: Ron Paul, former congressman, says ‘zero chance’ Assad gassed Syrians

“Trump said let the Syrians decide who should run their country, and peace talks were making out, and Al Qaeda and ISIS were on the run,” he added, the latter being an alternative name for the Islamic State terror group.

“The blame now is we can’t let that happen because it looks like it might benefit Assad,” the former Texas congressman continued. “It’s not so easy though, is it? What happened four years ago in 2013, you know, this whole thing about crossing the red line? Ever since then, the neocons have been yelling and screaming, a part of the administration has been yelling and screaming about Assad using poison gas.”

According to Mr. Paul, “it doesn’t make any sense for Assad under these conditions to all of a sudden use poisonous gases.

“I think there is a zero chance he would have done, you know, this deliberately,” he added.

Flashback: Something is Not Adding Up In Idlib Chemical Weapons Attack

Therefore, it is completely unsurprising that Orient TV has already prepared a “media campaign” to cover the Russian and Syrian airstrikes in neighbouring Hama countryside against terrorist forces, with the allegations that the airforces have been using chemical weapons. Flashback - REPORT: SOROS-LINKED GROUP BEHIND CHEMICAL ATTACK IN SYRIA

The White Helmets, an al-Qaeda affiliated group funded by George Soros and the British government, have reportedly staged another chemical weapon attack on civilians in the Syrian city of Khan Shaykhun to lay blame on the Syrian government.

A day prior to the attack, Gulf-based Orient TV announced “Tomorrow we are launching a media campaign to cover the airstrikes on Hama country side including the usage of chemical warfare against civilians.” This shows clear foreknowledge that the rebels were going to stage an attack by Orient TV.

The White Helmets filmed much of the footage being released on the chemical attack. They have also been known to stage “rescue” videos in the past. However, this time it appears children were indeed killed in the making of this “media campaign.”

Mattis: Syria Fight Will Only Get More Complicated After Raqqa Is Captured

While US officials have for months been presenting the invasion of Raqqa as the end-all, be-all battle against ISIS, they’ve also been preparing the public for the idea of attacking the “next ISIS capital,” and so on. Secretary of Defense James Mattis was even more direct, predicting that the situation would be even more complex after the fall of Raqqa.

“You have to play this thing very carefully,” Mattis insisted, saying it would become harder and harder to keep the various factions fighting against ISIS from getting into “incidents” against one another, while talking of continued support for the Kurdish YPG.

The “incidents” in question have mostly been US warplanes attacking Shi’ite militias, and shooting down the occasional warplane or drone aligned with the Syrian government. Though the US has claimed they “welcome” Syrian offensives against ISIS, they’ve continued to attack them every time they get close.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sec Def Mattis, a word, please: Russia's Sergei Ryabkovhas warned that any further US incursion military into the sovereign nation of Syria will have ...consequences.

Russia warns US its fighter jets are now potential target in Syria

I would like to politely point out that Russia has been invited by the Syrian government and military to get rid of the jihadists; military from the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America have not been invited to do so.

What the US government has done here, no matter the cloddishly clumsy spin about "fighting ISIS", has been to invade a sovereign country on a horrifically flimsy pretext, in order to attempt regime change in Damascus.

And yesterday, the US Ambassador to the UN made the following, breathtaking statement at the UN:

US envoy Nikki Haley: No place for Assad in post-ISIS Syria

Sir, what can that statement possibly mean except as a neon-orange, brightly blinking light, telegraphing that the US government is planning to create regime change in Damascus, coming close on the heels of ousting ISIS in Raqqa?!?

IS a war with Russia over Syria really worth it, in the larger scheme of things?!?

Trump’s Chaos is Covering for Stealth Escalation Overseas by

Been trying to tell you folks. Opposition to Trump and the resulting chaos and confusion is being used to set the stage for WW3!

While Washington is fixated on President Trump’s tweets, antics, lies and Russiagate, the administration is ramping up a stealth escalation of our military involvement across the Middle East. As Naomi Klein warns, Trump’s “rolling shock of the chaos and spectacle” distracts from radical actions both at home and abroad. Across the Middle East, the administration drives the United States ever further into wars without end, increasing the dangers of direct military confrontation with Russia and Iran, with little awareness and no mandate from the American people. This is a recipe for calamity.

Trump, Macron to pursue 'common response' in Syria

President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to pursue a "common response" to the Assad regime in Syria in the event of another chemical weapons attack, the French government said Tuesday after the two leaders spoke.

"The purpose of the meeting was to prepare for the bilateral meeting of the two presidents during the G20 meeting in Hamburg on 7 and 8 July," the Elysee Palace said in a statement about the phone call between Trump and Macron.

"They also took stock of the Syrian issue and the need to work towards a common response to a chemical attack in Syria," the statement continued. "The two presidents spoke about the situation in the Gulf and the need to avoid any escalation in the region. Both stressed that the fight against terrorism and its financing is a common challenge for all the countries of the region."

House Spending Bill Threatens to Suspend Nuclear Treaty With Russia: Bill Also Funds Missiles Banned by the Treaty

Tensions between the US and Russia touch a lot of fronts, including the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty. The treaty forbids the development of intermediate range conventional and nuclear missiles, and there have been allegations one of the missiles tested by Russia is in violation of this treaty.

Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty signed in 1987
Russia has denied this is the case, but the House of Representatives appears uninterested in arguing the point, instead adding multiple lines to the nearly $700 billion military spending bill that was advanced in committee today, threatening to withdraw the US from the treaty, and funding US development of missiles that would deliberately violate it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This ... is an officially insane idea, and more US governmental demonisation of Russia, as a prelude to some kind of an attack against it, either in Syria; Iran; or perhaps (God forbid) a direct attack against it by the NATO military which has been encircling it, geographically, for more than the last year or so.

House Armed Services Committee Unveils $696.5 Billion Military Spending Bill

Just days after committee chair Mac Thornberry (R – TX) announced his intention to unveil a $640 billion military spending bill, the House Armed Services Committee actually unveiled a $696.5 billion bill, which you’ll notice is quite a bit more, but which is also being presented as a “cut” from the previous announcement.

The imagined cut is based on the idea that the $640 billion would’ve added quite a bit of funding for Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO), and the new bill already includes $75 billion in OCO, which they’re presenting as meaning the bill is only $621.5 billion, despite the OCO money being very real, and also including substantial amounts that’ll be spent on things not related to overseas operations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This government does not necessarily need to spend more money; they need to spend money for our military more intelligently.

This should translate into the death of cost over-runs which are absorbed by taxpayers; the ending of problem-plagued programs like the F-35, with the companies like Lockheed Martin absorbing the costs of their failures, after a certain point, from corporate funding, and not taxpayers' funding.

The failure of weapons to perform as advertised should be treated as a form of corporate treason against this country.

Please don't get me wrong; as a Christian pacifist activist, who is constantly exhorting her government to use hard-won, moral negotiations as the way to resolve geopolitical disputes, I abhor war as a methodology for resolving disputes.

That being said, if the civilian leadership is going to use war to pursue its aims, our military deserve weapons that work. China and Russia are spending far less on their military outlays, but are winding up with weapons which do, and will work, very efficiently.

Top Senator Blocks Gulf Arms Sales Over Qatar Crisis

While previous Senate efforts to limit US arms sales to Saudi Arabia over human rights concerns narrowly failed, Senate Foreign Affairs Committee chair Bob Corker (R – TN) has now withheld all consent for US arms sales to not just Saudi Arabia, but to the other Gulf Arab states, citing the ongoing Qatar crisis.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt have all imposed a blockade on Qatar over the past several weeks, and have issued a long list of demands for Qatar to comply with as a condition for lifting it. Sen. Corker warned that this is undermining the ISIS war.

That’s been a concern from the beginning of the crisis, since the largest US military base in the Middle East is in Qatar, and much of the air war in Syria is based out of Qatar. So far,the Pentagon has insisted that hasn’t been impacted, but the longer the situation goes unresolved, the more likely it’s going to be a problem.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I sense that this is just a small hiccup in President Trump's plans to sell billions in weapons to Saudi Arabia, as well as to other Middle Eastern "bastions of democracy" and will be overcome quickly.

Japan has broadcast a television warning urging citizens to lie on the ground or seek shelter in the event of North Korea launching a nuclear attack.

Trump’s Policy Is Clear: Civilian Casualties Don’t Matter in the War on Terror

? ecent news reports describe a massive increase in civilian casualties at the hands of the US military or US allies. In Mosul, Iraq, hundreds of residents have been killed as US forces join Iraqi troops in the last stage of their assault on the ISIS-held city. In Yemen, the United States is increasing its direct involvement in the Saudi-led air war being waged against the poorest country in the Arab world, as the UN and other aid workers struggle against mass famine and a looming cholera epidemic on top of the thousands already killed and millions displaced. And in Raqqa, Syria, US air strikes and white-phosphorus munitions have led to what the UN calls “a staggering loss of life,” as Washington provides backup to Kurdish and Arab forces now besieging the ISIS stronghold.

Preparing For War? US House Wants To Create First New Military Branch Since 1947

There’s currently a push in the halls of Washington D.C., to establish a new branch of the military by 2019, one whose focus would be operations among the stars. Proposed legislation by House representatives would create a “Space Corps” that would serve “as a separate military service within the Department of the Air Force.”

It would be the first branch added to the military since 1947 when the Air Force was officially established.

On Tuesday, the top two lawmakers of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, Representatives Mike Rogers and Jim Cooper, added the legislation to the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The subcommittee oversees military space operations and works within the umbrella of the House Armed Services Committee.

“There is bipartisan acknowledgement that the strategic advantages we derive from our national security space systems are eroding,” Rogers and Cooper said in a joint statement.

The images Saudi Arabia doesn't want you to see

Batool Ali is six years old, though you would never guess that from her huge, haunted eyes and emaciated frame. Ribs jutting out over her distended belly, Batool weighs less than 16 kilograms (35 pounds). She is one of nearly half a million children in Yemen suffering from severe malnutrition.

In another hospital, Ali Annhari sits with his daughter Isra in his lap. Her eyes are glazed, an IV drip in her hand. She is suffering from cholera.
"I am scared of course," Annhari says, "three of my children had cholera. Your children are your world. I have been eight months without a salary, so we are struggling and borrowing money ... the treatment is so expensive."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Take a good, hard look at the images accompanying this article, and (something I rarely say), bravo to CNN for having had the "male attributes" to run it.

And please remember; the US government is enabling the Saudi genocide of children in Yemen. This genocide/assassination is taking many forms.

The Saudi military, under US military guidance, is bombing, killing, and maiming for life, Yemen's children:

Images: Yemeni children killed and maimed for life from Saudi bombings

Because, with US military aid, the Saudis are blockading Yemeni ports, so no food can get in, children are dying from complications of malnutrition:

Image: Yemeni child dying from malnutrition

Because malnutrition causes the body to shut down, and become prone to a host of diseases, cholera is sweeping through Yemen at this moment.

images:
Yemeni children dying from cholera

Oh, and did I mention that the Saudis are using banned depleted uranium weapons in Yemen?!?

Images: Saudis using depleted uranium in Yemen

These DU weapons are having precisely the same effect on Yemeni children as it had on the children in Fallujah, and still births, cancers, and massive deformities are now the "new normal" for Yemeni babies.

Image: Yemeni baby deformed from exposure to DU weapons

I frankly can thing of few more horrific child abuse...than poisoning a child in the womb, through exposure to DU weapons.

When you assassinate children, you assassinate the future of the country those kids come from; and this, precisely, is what the Saudi military, enabled by the Us military, is doing in Yemen. And remember; this is done with your tax dollars, and in your name as well.

US Navy ballistic missile intercept test fails

The U.S. Navy conducted a failed ballistic missile intercept Wednesday with its SM-3 Block IIA off the coast of Hawaii.

The destroyer John Paul Jones, running the Navy’s top-of-the-line Aegis Baseline 9.C2 combat system, failed to intercept a medium-range ballistic missile launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Kauai, Hawaii.

The destroyer detected and tracked the target on the AN/SPY-1 phased array radar but was unable to intercept it. It was the second test of this latest iteration of the SM-3. The John Paul Jones successfully shot down a target in February with it. That test was the first intercept using Baseline 9.2C

Killer Drones and the Militarization of U.S. Foreign Policy

To many around the world, U.S. foreign policy has been dominated for the past 16 years by military actions in the Middle East and South Asia, and large land and sea military exercises in Northeast Asia. On the world stage, American efforts in the areas of economics, trade, cultural issues and human rights appear to have taken a back seat to the waging of continuous wars.

Continuing the use of drone warfare to carry out assassinations will only exacerbate foreign distrust of American intentions and trustworthiness. It thereby plays into the hands of the very opponents we are trying to defeat.

During his campaign, Donald Trump pledged he would always put “America First,” and said he wanted to get out of the business of regime change. It is not too late for him to keep that promise by learning from his predecessors’ mistakes and reversing the continued militarization of U.S. foreign policy.

In the wake of Sunday’s US shoot-down of a Syrian fighter plane and the following day’s warning from Russia that it will treat all American warplanes flying west of the Euphrates River as targets for its surface-to-air missiles, the threat of an armed confrontation between the world’s two largest nuclear powers is now greater than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis nearly 55 years ago.

In Major Diplomatic Shift, North Korea Open To Halting Nuclear, Missile Tests

Is Trump about to have his biggest diplomatic victory yet?

According to Yonhap, North Korea's top envoy to India on Wednesday offered a conditional moratorium, i.e. halt, on his country's nuclear and missile tests in what was said to be an "apparent bid to hold talks with the United States." While the North Korean offer is conditional, its "demands" are hardly outrageous.

North Korea Ambassador to India Kye Chun-yong said Pyongyang is willing to talk in terms of freezing its nuclear and missile tests under certain circumstances. "If our demands is met, we can negotiate in terms of the moratorium of such as weapons testing," Kye said in English in an interview posted on the website of India's television station WION.

He suggested that one of the key demands is the halt of the U.S. joint military drills with South Korea, which Pyongyang denounced as a rehearsal for invasion. Seoul and Washington say their annual exercises are defensive in nature.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to hope that this could happen, particularly with south Korean President Moon being a "Sunshine" advocate (i.e., having more connection with North Korea, at all levels).

But the issue of backing down on the US/ South Korea defense drills may sink this before it can actually have a chance to float.
