End to Korean War could break nuclear impasse, says Moon

President Moon of South Korea has urged the United States to end the impasse in denuclearisation talks with North Korea by formally declaring an end to hostilities in the Korean War.

Such a declaration, which would fall short of a fully-fledged peace treaty, could give the impetus for North Korea to offer further concessions without prompting calls for US troops to pull out. The conflict ended in an armistice in 1953.
