Encrypt the data and have the encryption software and keys on a jump disk ON YOUR KEYRING.
(Nobody listens; I don't know why I bother any more.)
I think it is time for all Americans to start top refuse to be on databases, public or private. The endless string of identity theft proves that neither government nor corporations can get their act together regarding data security and the best way to prevent identity theft is to keep your life off their computers.
