Leaked EU plot exposes Brussels' bid to humiliate Boris with excruciating trade talks

The shock tactics from Brussels comes after a leaked report showed the EU had dropped demands for an urgent trade deal. According to the leaked EU27 communique, the demand for “making the best possible use of the limited time available” has been dropped from earlier drafts. Instead, according to a leading expert on the EU, the member-states could drag out talks, forcing Boris Johnson into another extension.

This would test Mr Johnson's resolve to reject any further extension to the trade deal talks beyond the end of 2020.

If he wins a majority, the Prime Minister has vowed to take the UK out of the EU on 31 January and agree a trade deal with the bloc within 11 months.

The leaked communique showed EU ambassadors have serious doubts about the current 11-month timetable and did not want to send a positive message to Mr Johnson.
