Looking for safe hands: Lock picked by burglars during infamous Watergate break-in that resulted in President Richard Nixon's downfall goes to auction with bids starting at $50,000 .

Five burglars broke into the Watergate Complex on June 17, 1972 in an effort to vandalize the Democratic National Committee's headquarters
Richard Nixon's culpability in the incident resulted in his resignation from the presidency in 1974; as of yet, he is the only US president to resign from office
Part of the break-in involved picking a lock from stairwell #2 at the Washington D.C. complex
That lock is now being auctioned off by Los Angeles auction house Nate D. Sanders for $50,000. The auction will be held December 14
