Simon Wilson: The free speech debate with Don Brash(ex-NZ PM)

This week former National Party leader Don Brash and Herald (very left leaning) senior writer Simon Wilson went head to head in debating teams at the University of Auckland. The moot: That this house believes politically correct culture has gone too far, to the point of limiting freedom of speech. (Simon wilson had to draw race into his speech...Funny tho, Maori didn't vote the Maori Party in because they were too conservative! The Maori Party wanted Maori to take responsibilty for their lives & get off the benefit train! Instead, Maori voted Labour for more benefits!)

Here are their speeches, edited for publication.

Don Brash

My team strongly supports the motion that PC culture has gone too far to the point of limiting freedom of speech.

Indeed, this is so obviously true that I almost feel sorry for our opponents trying to argue the negative of this motion.

Let me immediately make it clear that we are not arguing that there should be absolutely no limits on free speech.
