Trump demands California repay $3.5 billion in 'Wasted' federal dollars for boondoggle shrunken bullet train project but Gov. Gavin Newsom insists president is getting revenge for wall lawsuit

President Donald Trump demanded California repay the government the $3.5 billion it received in federal funds for its failed bullet train while the state's governor claimed what the president really wants is 'political retribution.'

'California now wants to scale back their already failed “fast train” project by substantially shortening the distance so that it no longer goes from L.A. to San Francisco. A different deal and record cost overruns. Send the Federal Government back the Billions of Dollars WASTED!,' Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

But Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom blasted it as a revenge move for California's lawsuit against the administration's border wall.
