Chinese Imports Of US Pork Soar To The Highest Ever As Beijing Faces Food Crisis

As Bloomberg reports, as China's hog herd is collapsing, Beijing's imports of U.S. pork exploded to a weekly record.

According to USDA data, in the week ended Oct. 3, pig imports soared to 142,200 metric tons, more than 7 times greater than September's total shipments of 19,900 tons.

China signaled it may import as much as 400,000 tons to stem a domestic shortfall, and it now appears that the US may be the easiest source of said pigs, which needless to say grants the US substantial leverage in the ongoing trade talks. The swine fever outbreak killed millions of pigs. The country also appeared poised to boost purchases of agriculture products as a good-will gesture before talks between Washington and Beijing on easing trade tensions.

Did China Just Announce the End of U.S. Primacy in the Pacific?

For decades, the United States has taken China’s ballistic missile capability for granted, assessing it as a low-capability force with limited regional impact and virtually no strategic value. But on October 1, during a massive military parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Beijing put the U.S., and the world, on notice that this assessment was no longer valid.

In one fell swoop, China may have nullified America’s strategic nuclear deterrent, the U.S. Pacific Fleet, and U.S. missile defense capability.

China’s ‘New Silk Road’ Vision Revealed

The Xinhua series promises the clearest look so far at China’s vision for its Silk Road Economic Belt as well as the Maritime Silk Road. One of the most intriguing pieces released Thursday was a map showing China’s ambitious visions for the “New Silk Road” and “New Maritime Silk Road.” It’s the clearest vision to date of the scope of China’s Silk Road plan.

According to the map, the land-based “New Silk Road” will begin in Xi’an in central China before stretching west through Lanzhou (Gansu province), Urumqi (Xinjiang), and Khorgas (Xinjiang), which is near the border with Kazakhstan.

Chinese Citizens Will Be Required To Scan Their Faces To Use The Internet

Oregon agricultural exports hit hard by US-China trade war

MARQUAM — Rancher Jerome Rosa sat in his mud-spattered pickup truck, glumly watching some of his cows resting on a grassy slope in Oregon's fertile Willamette Valley.

Rosa, the executive director of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association, told state lawmakers a few days earlier about the disruptions to Oregon's beef exports because of the U.S.-China trade war.

Darren Padget, an Oregon wheat grower and vice chairman of the U.S. Wheat Associates market development group, said he supports Trump's renegotiating of trade agreements and hard stance with China.

How An Ever Sanctioning Superpower Is Losing Its Status

The U.S. loves to dish out sanctions left and right and the Trump administration has increased their use. But sanctions, especially unilateral ones, do not work. The U.S. has not recognized that because it never looked if those sanctions fulfill their aims. A recent Government Accountability Office report found:

Th U.S. sanctions and sanctions and sanctions but never checked if sanctions work to the intended purpose. The efforts to sanction Russia have surely led to some unintended consequences. They are the reason why the alliance between China and Russia deepens every day. The U.S. has the exorbitant privilege of having its own currency being used as the international reserve. The sanctioning of U.S. dollar transactions is the reason why the U.S. is now losing it:

Iran Is China’s Secret Weapon for Killing off the US Dollar’s Global Reserve Status

There is a strong current of change affecting the international political arena. It is the beginning of a revolution brought on by the transition from a unipolar to multipolar world order. In practice, we are faced with the combination of several factors, including the application of US tariffs on Chinese exports, Washington’s sanctions on Iran, US energy self-sufficiency, the vulnerability of Saudi industrial facilities, and Iranian capabilities for resisting US attacks, as well as its exportation of large quantities of gas and oil to China. Everything converges on one factor, namely, the looming decline of the US dollar as the global reserve currency.

Beijing’s recent decision to grant a credit line of between 280 and 400 billion US dollars to the Islamic Republic of Iran is part of a broad-spectrum strategy that looks to the distant and not just immediate future.

Why China’s New WZ-8 Hypersonic Surveillance Drone is Very Bad News for the U.S. Navy

On October 1st China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) unveiled a number of new pieces of high end military hardware during a large scale parade in Tiananmen Square, staged to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and conclusion of the Chinese Civil War.

While the unveiling of the DF-41 hypersonic intercontinental range ballistic missile drew the most attention among the new weapons systems, it was perhaps the smaller WZ-8 hypersonic surveillance drones which had the most significant implications for the PLA’s future capabilities.

Hong Kong Protesters Go On Rampage, Vow To Defy Government's Mask Ban

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam thought invoking a colonial-era emergency powers law to prohibit wearing masks in public might calm the increasingly violent protests that have rocked her city for more than four months now. But apparently, that was a miscalculation.

Lam invoked the law Friday morning following a special meeting of the city's executive council. "As the current situation has clearly given rise to a state of serious public danger, the executive council decided this morning to invoke the power under the emergency regulations ordinance and make a new regulation in the prohibition of face covering - which is essentially an anti-mask law."

The regulation "targets rioters" Lam said, which is why it contains "exemptions" for those with legitimate need to wear a mask (wearing face masks became common in Hong Kong after the 2003 SARS outbreak).

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Lam and her cohorts thought for one second that this was going to get rid of the protests and these protestors, they all need to think again.

Understanding the reality of the 24/7 news cycle, President Xi does NOT want to recreate a "Tiananmen Square Moment" here; but if this doesn't stop the rioting here, the question he has to ask himself right now is, what will?!?

Iran Is China’s Secret Weapon for Killing off the US Dollar’s Global Reserve Status

In geographical terms, this implies a future shift of military forces away from the Persian Gulf, Middle East and North Africa to the Far East. This is for the purposes of containing and surrounding (militarily, economically and technologically) Washington’s primary peer competitor, namely China.

Beijing, in response to this encirclement, has a card up its sleeve. It can seek to replace the reserve-currency status of the US dollar by not only coming to Iran’s aid, which is fundamental to its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), but also, at a later stage, seeking to woo Saudi Arabia (and OPEC) away from selling oil exclusively in US dollars. Moscow, with the development of OPEC+, can help its Chinese ally, shaping the LNG market with prices quoted in currencies other than the US dollar. Currently, Beijing and Moscow are trading in hydrocarbons by completely bypassing both the SWIFT payment system as well as the US dollar.

Trump Asks China To Investigate Bidens, Could Lead To New Article of Impeachment

President Donald Trump on Thursday again invited foreign interference in a U.S. presidential election, calling on Ukraine and China to investigate Democratic political rival Joe Biden – similar to a request that has already triggered an impeachment inquiry in Congress.

As he left the White House for a visit to Florida, Trump told reporters he believed Beijing should investigate Biden and his businessman son Hunter Biden.

Trump calls for China to investigate Biden family

President Trump said Thursday that China should investigate the business dealings of 2020 rival Joe Biden's son, Hunter, as he doubled down on his prior -- and controversial -- call for Ukraine to do the same.

Trump struck a characteristically defiant tone while speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn, en route to Florida.

DEMS SET SIGHTS ON BARR

"China should start an investigation into the Bidens because what happened with China is just about as bad as what happened with Ukraine," Trump said. "I’m sure that President Xi [Jinping] does not like being under that kind of scrutiny where billions of dollars is taken out of his country by a guy that just got kicked out of the Navy."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, this kind of crud goes on for people who are "connected" through family money, and the kind of celebrity which "goes with "being a family member" of some one in high office.

I am quite sure that the same kinds of opportunities come forward for members of the Trump and Kushner families as well, but this most probably should not be the basis of discussion for the 2020 election.

Except for the truly monied, this economy has gone WAY south for much of President Trump's electorate; this country is on the keening edge of war against Iran, for no damned good reason, except that Trump's BFFs in the Middle East, the Butcher of Yemen, MbS, and the Butcher of Gaza, Israel's "falling" Prime Ministers Netanyahu, have declared that the US government, must do it, which most probably means a military engagement with Russia as well; our weaponry doesn't work anywhere near as well as does that of China and Russia. We are also treating China as a power to confront militarily, and right smack-dab in the middle of a trade war, at that.
Mr.President, sometimes, your timing... CAN BE AMAZINGLY LOUSY, and the
people who are taking it in the teeth for your trade decisions are those small farmers in this country, who supported you in 2016, but are about to go bankrupt, with what financial aid coming to them being far too little... and far too late.

So I have some very tough questions for President Trump, relative to his 2020 campaign: sir, are you going to hold your BFFs in the Weaponry business accountable for not taking care of our military in the field by providing the best weapons US governmental money can buy?!? Or are their contributions, overt and covert, "too critical to your campaign", that you don't dare rake them over the coals, publicly, and perhaps sending a couple of these execs to jail, to advertise that attempting to "pull one over" on the American military, with shoddy weaponry, will no longer be tolerated?!?

And secondly, sir, when are you going to announce a return to the Draft in this country?!? Russia, China, and Iran all conscript; the US currently does not, but absolutely does not have the troop strength to successfully triumph over any potential enemy right now.

DoD Creates New Office to Focus Solely on China

In recent years, Pentagon officials have been hyping China as one of the main threats to U.S. interests in the world, and in June the Department of Defense created a new office that will focus solely on China.

The deputy assistant secretary of defense (DASD) for China is one of four DASDs who work under the assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs. The other three DASDs include one for Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia, one for East Asia, and one for South and Southeast Asia. The new China position is the only DASD that will focus on one country.

According to a statement released by the Department of Defense, the new position will serve as “principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense on all things China and will be the single hub for policy and strategy development, oversight, authorities review, and national-level interagency integration to align the Department’s efforts on China.”

Hang Seng Rallies As Traders Hope 'Mask Ban' Will End Hong Kong Protests

In a move that investors hope will calm the incessant protests that have brought Hong Kong's economy to a standstill over the past four months, Chief Executive Carrie Lam and her top advisors are holding an emergency meeting to impose a ban on wearing masks in public.

Lam will hold a meeting of the executive council, her de facto cabinet, to impose the ban as soon as Friday, SCMP reports.

The ban will function under a tough colonial-era emergency law. The hope is that it will end the demonstrations, which have devolved into skirmishes between protesters and Hong Kong police. As demonstrators disrupted China's 'National Day' on Tuesday, HK police were forced to fire six live rounds, one of which struck a teenage protester who was later arrested. Police arrested nearly 270 protesters that day.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If this is the proverbial "last button on Joab's coat" the Chinese government believes it has with which to deal with the protestors, I have to wonder if even this can be effective in stopping these demonstrations.

And right now, I would not bet against the possibility (can we say, probability?!?) that some of the US "alphabet soup" agencies have, perhaps, "had a hand" in creating as much ruckus and upset as is humanly possible.

But I would most strongly caution the Trump Administration, that if they think, for a millisecond, that this is going to move China's attention away from the trade war with the US, that they are very terribly mistaken.

'Schoolboy' Hong Kong protester is 'critical' after being shot in the chest with a live round by police as activists stage violent 'Day of Grief' rallies to defy Communist rule on China's 70th National Day

A Hong Kong protester has been shot in the chest during clashes with police, according to police sources.

The demonstrator was said to be disoriented while being taken to Princess Margaret Hospital after being hit in the left chest during rallies in the city's Tsuen Wan district.

Debris from the bullet was lodged in his chest only three centimetres from his heart and he is in critical condition, according to reports. He is said to be a secondary school pupil.

Footage posted by The Hong Kong University Students' Union apparently shows a police officer drawing the gun and shooting a male activist at close range as the protester beat the officer with a baton.

‘Emboldening radicals’: China fumes after US lawmakers approve Hong Kong ‘human rights act’

Beijing has slammed a move by US congressional panels to approve Hong Kong-related bills envisioning sanctions for human rights abuses and requiring the US president to assess annually if Hong Kong is sufficiently independent.

The legislation, known as the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019, passed through the House and the Senate Foreign Relations Committees on Wednesday, and is now slated for a floor vote in both chambers. The bills, sponsored by Republican Senator Marco Rubio (Florida) and Representative Chris Smith (New Jersey), have proved to be among the least contentious in Congress, which is largely divided along party lines.

Life in China Is Getting Harder, and Xi Jinping Should Worry

But the mood on the ground is less celebratory, especially in a stretch of southern China that runs from the Vietnamese border to the Pearl River Delta. The area includes the manufacturing hub of Dongguan, being reshaped by American tariffs. There’s Shenzhen -- home to Huawei Technologies Co. and just across the border from Hong Kong’s protests -- and also Nanning, which started rationing pork this month as a swine fever epidemic ravages hog stocks.

Interviews this month across these locations showed how livelihoods are getting harder and why Beijing should be concerned.

“Xi is faced with a multitude of difficult domestic and international problems,” said Dennis Wilder, former senior director for Asia on the National Security Council who’s now at Georgetown University. “Any one of these problems could become a full blown crisis and thus, while he maintains a tight hold of power, he cannot afford to celebrate too gleefully as he reviews the grand parade.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is always the people at the bottom of any dictatorship, who remember what "revolution" seemed to be about; and that... was personal, and professional freedom, coupled with a right to speak your mind, even if what you are saying, is not "politically correct."

In checking in with Google, we find the following info on the longest reigning Chinese monarchy:

"China’s longest dynastic reign came from the Zhou Dynasty, a rule the started in 1046 BC up to 256 BCE, a span of 790 years. Iron was introduced to China during the Zhou’s reign and also the period when bronze ware making in China reached its peak."

So one has to wonder; how long will President XI have to "fulfil his destiny" in China?!?

China's August Rare Earth Exports To US Jump Amid Threat Of Export Ban

According to a new report from Reuters, China's exports of rare-earth magnets to the US in August jumped to the highest level in years, pointing to US firms scrambling to build stockpiles as China, the biggest rare-earth metals and alloys producer in the world, could slash flows of the minerals if the trade war continues to escalate into 2020.

New data from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China shows shipments of rare-earth magnets to the US rose 1.2% MoM to 452 tons. Exports to the US were 6.2% more than last year, and the highest monthly total since Jan. 2017.

Rare-earth exports to the US have been increasing since President Xi Jinping visited a magnet factory in May, with January to August shipments to the US up nearly 24% YoY to 2,984 tons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To have put this ban into place, without numerous, defense-in-depth, resources getting contracted to fill the expected gap (which apparently, was something for which the Trump Administration totally, and catastrophically, failed to do), reminds me of the one-line from the American comic, Ron White, "You CAN 'T FIX STUPID!!"

The U.S. Treasury Department announced new sanctions on five Chinese nationals and six entities, including a unit of COSCO Shipping Corp., who were knowingly violating restrictions on purchasing Iranian petroleum.

"And we are telling China, and all nations: know that we will sanction every violation," Pompeo said at a conference on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in NYC.

Bloomberg spoke with oil traders who canceled bookings with sanctioned entities and let provisional charters lapse as they wanted to avoid being caught up in the fight between Washington and Tehran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The lack of oil transport is going most probably going to drive up the price of oil intensely, at least for a limited period of time.

And the question I have here is, will the US Navy be ordered to interdict foreign ships suspected of carrying contraband cargo?!?

Because THAT, friends... is tantamount to a declaration of war.

Facial Recognition for a Free Travel Ticket in China? Welcome To Orwell’s 1984

By Aaron Kesel

China wants to give its prisoners (populace) the ability to pay with their faces to ride subways; this will be combined with its social credit program — which already tracks the communist nation’s citizens traveling — and if points are too low, it prevents travel.

The new program, which must have been assembled from George Orwell’s apparent instruction manual 1984, is slowly rolling out throughout China in several cities, The Standard reported.

In Shenzhen, China, home of OnePlus, Huawei and internet giant Tencent, the city has released a new government system for elderly Chinese. This new program will allow residents of China over the age of 60 to register for free subway rides, using just their face as their ticket...

Hong Kong protesters ransack mall, clash in street battles with police (VIDEOS)

Thousands of masked protesters descended on a Hong Kong satellite town, vandalizing a mall and rail stations. Clashes with police ensued in nearby streets where police used tear gas and activists set barricades on fire.

Western Media Portrays Hong Kong Hooligans as Heroes. But Are They?

Whenever Hong Kong protesters are destroying public property, there are no cameras of Western media outlets in sight. But when police decide to intervene, protecting their city, Western media crusaders emerge in full force.

On September 15, 2019, huge US flags were waving in the air. A massive demonstration, consisting of mainly young people, was moving up from the old British-built downtown area of the city towards the US Consulate General, often erroneously called the “embassy.”

The temperature was well over 30 degrees Celsius, but the number of ‘protesters’ kept growing. Many of the main arteries in Hong Kong were entirely blocked.

Lions and Tigers and Uighars! OH! MY!

I can't say I am a proponent of the Chinese government. However their so-called mistreatment of the Uighars, revolves around the US using the Uighars(along with Turkey)to destabilize China(Like they are doing in Hong Kong)along a key linchpin of China's Silk Road Project in Xinjiang, which is also rich in natural resources.
Here are a few stories to back up my contention, which is shared by people much smarter than myself.
Once again the US governments policy of intervening in the affairs of other countries, anywhere and everywhere is behind all of this turmoil and bloodshed.
The Policy of non-interference in the affairs of other nations as espoused by George Washington in His Farewell Address should be followed, otherwise the USA is headed for much more trouble.

THE UIGHUR ISSUE

According to reliable Chinese sources, from 1990 until 2001 the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) – the Uighurs’ military arm – carried out over 200 terrorist attacks in China and inside Xinjiang.

Obviously this is a danger for the stability of the People’s Republic of China, which cannot afford a jihad area in such a neuralgic position for its defense and its peaceful land and maritime expansion, as anticipated by Xi Jinping.

In the near future this will be the starting point of the jihadist guerrilla warfare – the line of the Belt and Road Initiative defined in 2013.

XINJIANG AND UYGHURS — WHAT YOU’RE NOT BEING TOLD(BY THE CORPORATE/CORRUPT WESTERN MEDIA)

“1 million Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps!” … “Ethnic Cleansing and Cultural Genocide!” … the western media is very effective at using emotional phrases. But what’s the real story? Let’s go beyond exaggeration, distortion and sensationalism.

First of all, the media will never show the peaceful, prosperous parts of Xinjiang:

And Western media won’t talk about the billions of dollars that China has invested in Xinjiang, modernizing the cities, building 21 airports, linking with region with bullet trains etc.

And there are also thousands of mosques in Xinjiang, whose recorded history goes back more than 2000 years when the ancient Silk Road linked China to Italy and Greece. In China, there are mosques that were built in the 10th century, which demonstrates the tolerance and respect for religious rights in Chinese society.

THE US CONFLICT WITH CHINA: CHINA AND THE UYGHURS

The West is engaged in full-scale irregular war to destabilize China. The US created the Uyghur problem in Xinjiang by sponsoring terrorists there–the same tactics it used in Cuba, Venezuela, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Libya.

Groups like the World Uyghur Congress have offices in Washington D.C. and are funded by the US State Department via the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The NED’s website admits to meddling and breaks down its targeting of China into several regions including mainland, Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang/East Turkestan (“East Turkestan” is what Uyghur militants and separatists call Xinjiang).

China’s Uyghur Problem — The Unmentioned Part

In August Reuters published an article under the headline, “UN says it has credible reports that China holds million Uighurs in secret camps.” A closer look at the article reveals no official UN policy statement, but rather a quote from one American member of an independent committee that does not speak for the UN, a member with no background in China. The source of the claim it turns out is a UN independent advisory NGO called Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The sole person making the charge, American committee member Gay McDougall, stated she was “deeply concerned” about “credible reports.” McDougall cited no source for the dramatic charge.

China, Russia, Iran ‘plan joint naval drill in international waters’

China, Russia and Iran are planning a joint naval drill in the Sea of Oman and northern Indian Ocean “soon”, a semi-official Iranian news outlet reported on Saturday, just days after the United States blamed Iran for a drone attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities.

General Ghadir Nezami Pour, head of international affairs and defence diplomacy of Iran’s General Staff of the Armed Forces, said the drill would take place in international waters, the Iran Press news agency reported.

“The exercises have different goals, including the exchange of tactical and military experiences, and sometimes they seek political goals which show a kind of convergence between participants,” he was quoted as saying.

“Officials at the level of defence minister, chief of staff of the armed forces and commanders of the armed forces will come to Iran in the near future and these actions reflect Iran’s active defence diplomacy,” he was quoted.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to hope that the Adults in the Bowels of Power in the US; Israel; and Saudi Arabia, are paying reasonably close attention to this evolving, shift of alliances.

And I would also like to politely point to President Trump, that these countries which have been the most maligned by him, ever since he came to office, have had a way of making such a relationship not only work militarily, but also economically.

All these countries are looking to,or already have "dumped" the US dollar in financial relationships, and are dealing with their national currencies only in their trade with each other.

'THIS VIDEO UNDERCUTS CHINA'S NARRATIVE': SATELLITE SLEUTHS VERIFY 'CHILLING' VIDEO OF BLINDFOLDED UYGHURS

SOURCE: NET.AU
Australia's Foreign Minister and members of the Uyghur community have condemned a "deeply disturbing" and "horrifying" video of Uyghurs in China's Xinjiang that has surfaced online.

The footage purportedly shows dozens of Uyghur men — their heads freshly shaved —blindfolded with their hands tied behind their backs during a mass transfer at a train station in the north-west region of China.

The video, posted to YouTube last week anonymously by War on Fear, has been verified as authentic by Nathan Ruser, a satellite analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

Mr Ruser said by zooming in on Google Earth details like the shadow cast from a pole or the planting of bushes, he could determine the footage was shot in either April or August in 2018 at a train station west of the city of Korla.

"Through all of those methods I was able to basically verify that that video is legitimate," he told the ABC.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF these images can be proven, by several authenticators, as true,
China's Ministry for Human Rights ( if there IS such a thing), has one whole lot of explaining to do.

The Invention Of Guns

The invention of guns followed the development of the explosive black powder in China. The first guns were simple tubes from which to shoot explosive charges, but gradually they were made easier to load, aim, and fire. Guns revolutionized warfare and effectively ended the age of the armored knight and the castle stronghold. They have had a profound effect on human history.

Su-30MKK: Designing an Elite Fighter to Protect Chinese Coasts and the Beginning of Chinese Maritime A2AD

The end of the Cold War and collapse of the Soviet Union saw tensions between the Western Bloc and the People’s Republic of China escalate, and a potential conflict with the Western Bloc and particularly the United States thus emerged as the primary focus of Chinese defence planning. The U.S. bombing of the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia, reports of Western support for anti government riots which killed several PLA soldiers in 1989, and U.S. threats of war against North Korea, all led the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) leadership to escalate preparations for the possibility of U.S. military action in northeast Asia.

China's Giant $400 Billion Iran Investment Complicates U.S. Options

Sanctions,Smanctions! Checkmate!

Amidst historic U.S. – Iran tensions, Beijing is doubling-down on its strategic partnership with Tehran, ignoring U.S. efforts to isolate the Islamic Republic from global markets. Following an August visit by Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Beijing, the two countries agreed to update a 25-year program signed in 2016, to include an unprecedented $400 billion of investment in the Iranian economy – sanctions be damned.
