Top U.S. Commanders in Africa, Latin America: Belt and Road Helps China Expand Militarily

China is using its One Belt One Road (OBOR) project as a tool to expand its financial and military influence across Latin America and Africa, the two American commanders respectively charged with overseeing United States military activities in those regions cautioned on Thursday.

Both commanders accused China of using “debt traps” through OBOR, also known as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), to undermine the sovereignty of borrowing countries in Africa and Latin America.

China’s ambitious OBOR seeks to revive the ancient Silk Road by linking Beijing to Europe and the Western Hemisphere through a massive network of land and sea routes.

Trade Deficit Tumbled as Imports from China Plummeted

The Trump administration’s tariffs on China helped push down the trade deficit to its narrowest in five months.

The trade deficit, which measures the difference between imports and exports, fell 11.5 percent from October to a seasonally adjusted $49.3 billion in November, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

Economists had been looking for a rise to $54.3 billion.

China Confident Trump Will Drop Tariffs Even Without Concessions

With just three weeks left until the deadline for the US and China to reach a trade deal, there has been remarkably little progress: after several months of talks, the two sides are still far apart on major issues, as Larry Kudlow admitted earlier on Thursday, even as new multibillion-dollar U.S. tariffs are set to kick in next month if no accord is achieved.

Made-in-China diamonds ready to rock global market

China, a major consumer of mined diamonds, now has a realistic chance of becoming a supplier of man-made gems and shaping the industry, analysts say.

Unlike naturally occurring diamonds, which form over the course of billions of years, synthetic diamonds are made in a matter of weeks.

Chinese companies have mastered the technologies to manufacture them en masse within a short period of time. The products are practically indistinguishable from those mined from earth.

China has been producing well over 10 billion carats of diamonds annually for almost a decade, according to the country’s industry estimates. Most of the products have gone to industrial use such as in abrasives. They were provided for aeronautics, oil rigs and electronic chips.

As competition intensified and technology matured, Chinese companies have shifted from abrasives to jewelry.

Huawei Indictment Deep State Extortion against China

High level extortions are made of this. China is considered far more dangerous than Russia by the Deep State CIA and State Department. It’s no wonder that the Trump administration is giving in to the pressure from sections inside the US government that are far beyond his executive control, to pin down civilian executives with close ties to the Chinese government.

The US Department of Justice is ramping up its pressure against China’s most priced tech giant Huawei for having the edge in 5G and AI technologies that will be the foundation of the next stage of our devolution, i.e. Technocratic Dictatorship.

Unsealed indictments include collusion with Iran to bypass US sanctions against the latter.

China plans to build four nuclear aircraft carriers to challenge American might

According to a report in South China Morning Post, China - already on the fast track towards modernising its military - has set an ambitious goal to put its naval fleet at par with that of the US. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy is being ramped up and the addition of more aircraft carriers is being seen by Beijing as a logical step in keeping the Americans at bay.

ESCOBAR: MAGA MISSES THE EURASIA TRAIN

While China and Russia solidify their economic and political alliance, the U.S. is missing an historic chance to join a multilateral world, instead clinging to military empire...

We should know by now that the heart of the 21stCentury Great Game is the myriad layers of the battle between the United States and the partnership of Russia and China.

Even the U.S. National Defense Strategy says so: “The central challenge to U.S. prosperity and security is the reemergence of long-term, strategic competition by … revisionist powers.” The recently published assessment on U.S. defense implications of China’s global expansionsays so too.

The clash will frame the emergence of a possibly new, post-ideological, strategic world order amidst an extremely volatile unpredictability in which peace is war and an accident may spark a nuclear confrontation.

UH OH – PLEASE TELL ME THAT THE U.S. IS NOT ABOUT TO GO TO WAR WITH VENEZUELA…

The U.S. was the first major power to recognize Juan Guaido as the “legitimate” president of Venezuela, and now the UKand most other European nations have also backed Guaido.

But Russia and China continue to back Maduro, and so that sets up a very interesting situation.

Will the western powers go ahead with their plans for regime change even though the international community is divided?

In particular, Russia has a very strong incentive to keep Maduro in power. The following comes from Zero Hedge…

“Russia is now so deeply invested in the Maduro regime that the only realistic option is to double down,” writes senior fellow at the Carnegie Moscow Center Alexander Gabuev.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is a grave potential for a proxy war here, with Russia and China on Venezuela's side, and the US, (and potentially, Europe, and Israel on the other).

I hope that the resolution of this crisis will be as bloodless as possible; however, unfortunately, just because something would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could possibly do, is no guarantee that it will not do it.

And here is a companion piece, also from blacklistednews.com, which provides some insight into the current situation in Venezuela: These are the US companies backing the Venezuelan Coup

FIRM FOUNDED BY EX-BLACKWATER BOSS TO OPERATE IN CHINA’S XINJIANG PROVINCE

A security firm founded by Erik Prince, the former boss of the private military company Blackwater, has announced a deal with the Chinese state to operate a training facility in China’s largely Muslim Xinjiang province. In the months following the United States invasion of Iraq, Blackwater was hired by the Department of State to provide diplomatic security at several locations throughout the Middle Eastern country. By 2010, when the company was abruptly sold to a group of private investors, its tactics in Iraq had prompted international controversy. Prince went on to help found Frontier Services Group (FSG), another private security firm registered in Hong Kong. The company provides security training to personnel working for Chinese companies. Its specialization is training personnel of Chinese firms based abroad, mainly in regions of Africa.

Chinese tariffs on US gas exports may shift the global market

China's threats of new tariffs on $60 billion worth of U.S. imports will create shifts in the energy market, as American liquefied natural gas makes the list of goods Beijing will target, analysts said.

The move to include LNG raised eyebrows as China had previously held back at including the fuel on the list of products subject to tariffs. That is as the country looks to natural gas as part of its efforts to clean up politically sensitive air pollution.

But things have changed since trade tensions with the U.S. escalated dramatically in recent weeks and some have questioned if Beijing's move will hit American gas exports. The U.S. is the world's top producer of natural gas and is a growing major exporter of LNG.

US Revives Cold War "Arms Race" With Russia And China After Abandoning INF Treaty

As we previewed below, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced that the US will withdraw from the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces treaty immediately, prompting threats of a Russian "response" from Moscow.

According to RT, Pompeo said the US could return to compliance with the treaty if Moscow meets Washington's demands within the next 180 days. To convince the US to back down, Washington has insisted that Russia cease development of a new cruise missile. Moscow has repeatedly denied claims that it's in violation of the treaty.

The withdrawal, which has been expected for months, will formally take place on Saturday.

Quitting INF: US Likely to Develop New Missiles to Counter China – Scholar

The US’ seeming unwillingness to turn a sympathetic ear to Russia's reasoning with regard to the 1987 INF Treaty could be not connected with Moscow's alleged violations of the pact, scholars told Sputnik, commenting on the Russian Ministry of Defence's presentation of the 9M729 missile, which was snubbed by NATO officials.

The primary motivation behind Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty is that China is not a participant of the pact, says Rajeswari Pillai, senior fellow? and head of the Nuclear and Space Policy Initiative? Observer Research Foundation.

Speaking to Sputnik, Pillai pointed out that both Russia and the US have repeatedly accused each other of violating the treaty. However, "the real problem with the INF is not so much about the violations by Russia and the US, but that China is outside the treaty", he suggested.

China Urges the World to Undermine U.S. Sanctions

China’s state-run Global Times on Friday applauded the launch of a European system to evade U.S. sanctions on Iran, pleased by the damage it could inflict upon U.S. sanctions against China, Venezuela, North Korea, and other countries.

The Chinese saluted France, Germany, and Britain for moving toward a day when the U.S. dollar is no longer the world’s dominant currency and perhaps Chinese money will take its place.

The Global Times gave the French, Germans, and British a pat on the back for exercising “economic sovereignty” against “Washington’s imposition of its foreign policy on other countries,” noting that Chinese interests have also felt American pressure.

Pakistan relying less and less on US, turning to China, Saudi Arabia & UAE

Pakistan is making important strides in its military and naval capacities with the help of China, relying less on US-made weaponry. Despite accepting money from all sides, Pakistan’s relationship with China continues to be strong.
After the Trump administration decided to suspend $3 billion in security assistance to Pakistan, complaining that Islamabad fails to do enough to combat terrorism, Washington has risked pushing Pakistan into the open arms of a number of other notable nations.

China-Pakistan relationship continues to strengthen
China has been a key ally for Pakistan in recent times and is almost certainly the reason why the US has taken a sharp turn in its approach to dealing with the country. (Considering that the Bush administration was caught red-handed funding Pakistani terrorist groups, Washington’s recent disdain for Islamabad makes little sense in the context of wider US imperialism).

The Coming US-China Proxy War In Venezuela

China won't give up on embattled Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro anytime soon even as the US-led international noose of "delegitimizing" hangs around the socialist strongman, according to government statements released on Friday. Beijing reaffirmed it maintains “normal state-to-state relations” and cooperation between the two sides “shouldn’t be undermined no matter how the situation evolves,” according to press briefing by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Or rather, we could more simply translate: with billions of dollars in credit on the line, "non-interference" is simply not an option for China.

“China has maintained close communication with all parties through different ways,” a ministry spokesperson said in response to question about whether China has had contact with National Assembly leader Juan Guaido. “We are ready to work with all parties to promote peace talks, and create favorable conditions for the proper settlement of the Venezuelan issue,” the ministry added.

TICK TOCK: US Is Losing Military Supremacy Over Russia And China

US Senate Armed Services Committee chief Jim Inhore says Washington is losing its military superiority over rivals and now needs significant investments to catch up.

In his article published in the Tulsa World newspaper, the senator notes that the US has lost an advantage in both conventional and advanced weapons, including artificial intelligence, hypersonic weapons and even the use of “directed energy” technology.

Inhore points out that the US “won two world wars” because of its military superiority, adding that the Pentagon had as many aircraft at the end of the Cold War as Russia and China combined. However, in the last ten years military supremacy has degraded.

MICHAEL BURLEIGH: The real reason Trump's ripped up the nuclear treaty that's kept us safe since the 1980s? Fear of China

This is not the first time President Trump has torn up an international agreement.

But his decision to withdraw from the long-standing Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty with Russia is a milestone – and a disturbing one. After all, this is the treaty that helped bring the Cold War to a close.

It was signed in 1987 by Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to ban a dangerous new generation of intermediate and short-range weapons with a range of between 300 and 3,400 miles.

Launched from trucks on either side of the Iron Curtain, these weapons were hard for the enemy to find and destroy. More to the point, they introduced the terrifying idea of 'small' and more frequent nuclear conflicts.

MUTINY BREAKS OUT AT VENEZUELA'S CENTRAL BANK

the ongoing "soft coup" is also playing out within the halls of the central bank, where in addition to a lot of currency printing in recent years, Bloomberg reports that staffers are waging a small mutiny and refusing to sign-off on key bank transactions.

According to "four people with direct knowledge of the matter", some central bank employees received "early retirement offers" Friday after disregarding orders from upper management. The mini mutiny took place as staffers fret about potential consequences and repercussions of signing off on financial operations that have been barred by US sanctions, and as discontent bubbles over as Venezuela’s economic and political outlook deteriorates.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Maduro, a word, please: when the banks and the military desert you, it truly may be time to seriously re-evaluate your options.

And sir, I would suggest, in the most sang-froid way, that your best possible help might come from Russia and China, neither of which want to see their investments in your country go "mammary glands up."

And, on a personal note, if this coup starts going successfully "full-tilt boogie", expect no better, in terms of your treatment, and ultimate disposal, by US-led mercs, than did Saddam Hussein or President Gaddafi got, at the hands of the invaders of their countries.

The US government so loves, almost maniacally, to prattle on about democracy, human rights, and human dignity; but when it comes to their much loved "regime change specials", particularly when a country has an embarrassment of riches, as does Venezuela, with its oil reserves, those values are absolutely practiced in the breach, rather than the observation of them.

Unless the Russians and Chines are willing to come to your aid, militarily, Were I you, I would begin a search on countries which have no extradition treaties with the US, and decide on a permanent vacation somewhere else.

Chinese Missiles Are Behind US Pullout From INF - Russian Ex-Security Official

The real reason for the US withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) is China deploying 1,000 medium and short-range missiles preventing a US presence in neighbouring seas, former Russian Security Council Secretary Andrey Kokoshin told Sputnik in an interview Friday.

"Evidently, the main target of the United States in connection with their withdrawal from this treaty is China. China, according to US estimates, set up a system of medium and short-range missiles of more than a thousand units aimed at the waters of the South China Sea and the East China Sea. It does not allow the United States to enter these waters with impunity using aircraft-carrier strike groups… Accordingly, the Chinese army set up a significant group of high-precision weapons, primarily ballistic missiles, which are capable of hitting US aircraft carriers and US military bases in the region", Kokoshin said.

Ex-German Chancellor Says Europe Needs Russia to Withstand US, China

Europe needs Russia's potential and most importantly the country's market and natural resources in order to withstand such superpowers as China and the United States, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder told the Spiegel outlet.

"If we, as Europeans, want to survive politically and economically between [such] superpowers [as] the United States and China, we cannot do this without Russia's potential. We need the country's market and, first of all, its resources", Schroeder told the outlet in an interview released on Friday.

According to the former German chancellor, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been trying to build the kind of relations with Western countries that would be based on equality and respect, but he has been repeatedly rejected when trying to reach out to Europe.

Washington Resurrected the Arms Race

The meetings in Beijing during January 30-31 between Washington, Russia, China, France and the UK apparently failed to preserve the commitment to prohibit intermediate range nuclear weapons. Washington stuck to its determination to withdraw from the historic agreement of Reagan and Gorbachev to destroy all land-based intermediate range nuclear missiles. This US withdrawal from a nuclear weapons reduction agreement follows the George W. Bush/Cheney regime’s withdrawal from the anti-ballistic missile treaty. Indeed, since the Clinton regime, every US president has produced worsening trust between the two major nuclear powers.

No good can come of this as Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said at the Beijing meeting.

CHINA’S MOON LANDER WAKES UP FROM ITS LONG, ULTRA-COLD NIGHT

WE ALREADY KNOW it’s chilly on the moon. A lunar night lasts 14 Earth days, and its temperatures can dip into a cold so punishing it makes the polar vortex look like a hot tub. But yesterday, China’s space agency announced that the frigidity of the lunar night is even more intense than we’d thought: The country’s Chang’e 4 spacecraft recorded an icy low of –310 degrees Fahrenheit (–190 degrees Celsius).

Consisting of a stationary lander and a six-wheeled rover named Yutu-2, Chang’e 4 landed on the far side of the moon earlier this month—a first for any spacecraft. During its first lunar night, Chang’e 4 went into hibernation, relying on internal heat sources to survive.

The Next Big Threat For Oil Comes From China

There is a widespread concern in the world regarding China’s decelerating economic growth. The slowdown, if it continues, threatens economic activity almost everywhere. Growth in Germany, for example, has already cooled due to its exports of high-quality machinery to China dropping precipitously.

Those in the oil market also worry about China. The country’s economic growth has been a key driver of global crude oil consumption. Indeed, China accounts for one-third of the International Energy Agency’s projected 2019 increase in world oil use.

Armed Services Committee Chairman Warns US And China "Headed For World War III"

Given that China's President Xi Jinping started the year by obliquely warning the US to stay out of Taiwan's business, perhaps it's not surprising that Senators are starting to join US military commanders in warning Americans not to underestimate the threat posed by China's unprecedented military buildup in the Pacific.

In the latest - and perhaps the most stark - warning to date, Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma - who recently took over as the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee - warned during a hearing about the challenges posed by China and Russia on Tuesday that people need to better understand the threats both countries pose to the international world order that America helped create, according to the Military Times.

US Intelligence Chief Claims Russia, China Will Meddle in 2020 Elections

According to allegations by the US intelligence director, Russia will implement more tools and methods to interfere in upcoming elections, but this time, it will have friends: China and, possibly, Iran.

Russia will seek to meddle in the US presidential election again — this time, with China, claims Dan Coats, the US Director of National Intelligence. According to the director's allegations, Russia has "learned from its operation in 2016," and will use a wider array of methods in the upcoming 2020 elections.

"We assess that foreign actors will view the 2020 US elections as an opportunity to advance their interests", Coats told the Senate intelligence committee, according to NBC News.

Huawei Asks Suppliers To Move Production Out Of US: Nikkei

The sweeping indictment against Huawei and its CFO Meng Wanzhou unveiled by Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker on Monday has elevated the feud between the US and the world's largest telecoms equipment provider (and second largest maker of smartphones) to absurd new heights.

And while officials from Huawei and Beijing have denounced the charges as anti-competitive and "politically motivated", Huawei is apparently already bracing for the other shoe to drop: According to a report by Nikkei, the tech giant has asked suppliers to consider moving some of their production outside the US in case the Congress of the DOJ adopt a ban on American-made parts being sold to the chipmaker. With the memory of the near-demise of ZTE still fresh in its memory, the company has made the request based on the expectation that an order of a full-scale ban on semiconductors and other critical equipment by President Trump is imminent.

In First Phone Call, Trump Congratulates Guaido On Becoming President Of Venezuela

President Trump started a Tuesday morning twitter storm with a tweet warning that Maduro will be "willing to negotiate" after the US starves his teetering regime of badly needed funding via the sanctions that were levied earlier this week.

Donald J. Trump
?
@realDonaldTrump

"Maduro willing to negotiate with opposition in Venezuela following U.S. sanctions and the cutting off of oil revenues. Guaido is being targeted by Venezuelan Supreme Court. Massive protest expected today. Americans should not travel to Venezuela until further notice.

But tweeting isn't all the president did. According to Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, Trump spoke with Guaido for what appears to be the first time on Wednesday. A readout of the call revealed that Trump "congratulated" Guaido on his "historic assumption of the presidency of Venezuela," and promised to keep in regular contact to "support Venezuela's path back to stability."

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, I'm getting intellectual whiplash from this; it sounds as though "negotiations" were what President Trump wanted here all along, and not regime change, which is absolutely the polar opposite from this morning's tweat.

Russia has already pledged to protect its "financial investments" in Venezuela, by whatever legal means is necessary.

Has our President gone completely, barking mad here?!?

FBI Arrests 2nd Chinese National For Stealing Trade Secrets From Apple

Nothing puts a damper on trade talks like another indictment accusing a Chinese national of doing the exact thing (corporate espionage and stealing US trade secrets) that senior Trump Administration officials have been warning would be a deal-breaking for future negotiations.

Days after the US filed a sweeping indictment against Huawei that included charges its engineers stole trade secrets from T-Mobile (allegations that were also the subject of a civil suit) and mere hours after the beginning of high level trade talks in Washington, NBC Bay Area reported that the FBI has arrested another Chinese national working for Apple's secretive self-driving car project - code-named "Project Titan" - for stealing trade secrets. That's the second such arrest in six months (readers can find our report on the earlier arrest, which happened in July, here).

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a Jean-Luc, double face palm, upon reading this.

Please remember that trade wars have a way of morphing into shooting wars, which I hope to heck will not happen, giving the dramatic escalation of events this last two weeks.

Jan 30 10:09

U.S.-China War May Be “Just A Shot Away”

I have warned repeatedly that currency wars and trade wars can lead to shooting wars. Both history and analysis support this thesis.

Currency wars do not exist all the time; they arise under certain conditions and persist until there is either systemic reform or systemic collapse. The conditions that give rise to currency wars are too much debt and too little growth.

In those circumstances, countries try to steal growth from trading partners by cheapening their currencies to promote exports and create export-related jobs.

The problem with currency wars is that they are zero-sum or negative-sum games. It is true that countries can obtain short-term relief by cheapening their currencies, but sooner than later, their trading partners also cheapen their currencies to regain the export advantage.

This process of tit-for-tat devaluations feeds on itself with the pendulum of short-term trade advantage swinging back and forth and no one getting any further ahead.

US UNVEILS CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST CHINA'S HUAWEI FOR VIOLATING IRAN SANCTIONS

The United States announced criminal charges against China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, escalating a fight with the world’s biggest telecommunications equipment maker just days before trade talks take place between Washington and Beijing.

The Justice Department charged Huawei and its chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou on Monday with conspiring to violate US sanctions on Iran by doing business with Tehran through a subsidiary it tried to hide, which Reuters first reported on in 2012.

Huawei is the world’s largest manufacturer of cellular-tower electronics and the third-biggest smartphone producer.

In a separate case, the Justice department said Huawei stole robotic technology from carrier T-Mobile US Inc. Huawei has said that the two companies settled their disputes in 2017.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What concerns me deeply, is how quickly trade wars can escalate into shooting wars.

A shooting war against China would be a very terrible thing for the US government to do to be right now.

The indictment alleged Huawei’s long-running scheme to deceive the US and numerous global banks about its business in Iran

The United States has been investigating Huawei Technologies for possible violations of trade sanctions since at least 2007, when FBI agents questioned its founder in New York about the Chinese telecommunication equipment manufacturer’s business activities in Iran.

The founder, whose name was redacted in the indictment filed on Monday in the US, was identified in the documents as “Individual-1”. He said at the time that Huawei was compliant with US export laws and did not deal directly with any Iranian company, according to the 13-count indictment unsealed in federal court in Brooklyn, New York.

Shenzhen-based Huawei was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, who built a small vendor of telephone switches into the world’s largest telecoms equipment maker and second-biggest smartphone supplier that is forecast to earn US$125 billion in revenue this year.

This Week's Three Scenarios For US-China Trade Talks

This week will mark another round of talks between the United States and China in an attempt to resolve the ongoing trade war, after President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping ordered their officials to hammer out a deal by March 1 on "structural changes" to China's economic model.

Failure to reach an agreement will result in Trump raising the tariff rate on $200 billion in Chinese imports from 10 percent to 25 percent, and would "dash hopes of a lasting truce that would remove one of the darkest clouds hanging over the world economy," reports Bloomberg.

Starting Wednesday, US Trade Representative Robert Lightnizer will meet with Vice Premier Liu He in Washington for two days, building on negotiations ranging from soy beans to subsidies Beijing provides to various state-owned companies.

Canadian PM fires China envoy after he ‘misspoke’ that Huawei CFO better not be extradited to US

Canada’s ambassador to China was fired after saying that Huawei’s CFO has a “strong case” against being extradited to the US, and that Ottawa would be better off releasing the Chinese national.

“Last night I asked for and accepted John McCallum’s resignation as Canada’s Ambassador to China,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Saturday, without providing the reason behind the dismissal of the diplomat. The deputy head of the diplomatic mission in Beijing will take over until a new ambassador is appointed.

China responds to George Soros

While this year’s now-concluded World Economic Forum conference in Davos was mostly a dud and increasingly a joke in financial circles, with Deutsche Bank’s Jim Reid going so far as admitting that “we had a DB drinks reception for our clients last night and one said to me that in 11 years of coming here the best advice would be to trade in the opposite direction to the main theme of the conference over the next 12 months“, there was one event that boondoggling billionaires were eagerly anticipating: George Soros’ annual remarks.

US FOLLOWS UKRAINE, SYRIA ROADMAP IN VENEZUELA REGIME CHANGE PUSH

Since the decision of the Trump administration on Wednesday to recognize a member of the Venezuelan opposition, Juan Guaidó, as an unelected “interim president,” the situation in the South American country has become increasingly tense, with efforts to force the current government of Venezuela — led by Nicolás Maduro — out of power having grown in intensity over the past few days.

Despite the enormous pressure his government faces from both local and international sources, Maduro has managed to maintain his position thanks to a combination of factors. These include the loyalty of the country’s well-armed military, in addition to popular support from Venezuelans who recently voted for Maduro, as well as Venezuelans who may not like Maduro but prefer him to a politician hand-picked and foisted upon them by the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

On that last statement, you can bet your sweet bippy it will happen, if this regime change attempt does not go as planned!

China and Russia have extensive investments in, and in co-sponsorship of, many projects in Venezuela.

Do you believe that they won't protect those assets, if they see a move toward regime change in Venezuela? I'm afraid that the short answer here, is "HELL yes!"

CONFIRMING US ORCHESTRATION, REPORT DETAILS PENCE'S KEY PHONE CALL TO VENEZUELAN OPPOSITION LEADER

"The U.S. had been planning this coup in Venezuela. It was the Trump administration that told the little-known opposition leader Juan Guaidó to declare himself (unelected) 'president.'"

As U.S. lawmakers, civil society leaders, and Latin America experts continue to warn against American intervention in Venezuela's internal political affairs, the Wall Street Journal on Friday confirmed suspicions that opposition leader Juan Guaido's move to declare himself "interim president" of Venezuela this week was highly coordinated with the Trump White House and Republican lawmakers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am watching the Faux crawl as I type this, and what is the most critically important, attention grabbing story they choose to go with at 6:50 AM my time?
Lawsuit Filed to have the ending of the Rams/Saints replayed, after missed call.

No wonder so many people are so incapable of having a critical thought, as to what their government does behind their backs.

But no, wait a minute; this is being done right in front of the public's face; they just need to want to see it.

And THAT, my friends, is why we, as a country, are slouching toward more and more wars, because those who are supposed to be taking care of We the People, are taking care of the governments and corporations which have acquired them, like some kind of assets, to be certain that the "geopolitical game" gets played precisely to bring more profit to the already monied.

Every war, or regime change the US has started over the past 17 years has resulted in a massive, epic, fail. Afghanistan is a mess; Libya is a mess; Iraq is a mess; Somalia is a mess; Syria is a mess; Ukraine is a mess; and Yemen, where the US is complicit in ongoing Saudi war crimes against the Yemeni people?!? Please don't flipping get me started.

It would be very pleasant to live in an America whose painfully honest, slogan would not be be "War Crimes R Us!!"

Unfortunately, however, we have seen the consistent, brutish behaviour of this government, against people who have the gall to live over, or around, resources the US wants to expropriate.

The methodology here is simple, and we can see it in every one of the US government's military misadventures of the last 17 years; demonization; the piling on of sanctions (which frequently have zero basis in fact); destabilization; regime change; making sure that the companies handling those resources are US centric; and that those resources will only be sold in the American dollar.

Stir; rinse; repeat.

And rather than have the maturity to analyze where the country has gone wrong, to prevent these atrocities from ever happening again, it is doubling down on thinking that DC can create regime change in Venezuela, about which they know less than nothing, except for the massive oil reserves the country has.

Venezuelans are a very smart people, with a real understanding of their very rich, and complex, history.

Therefore, I would like to politely, but strongly, caution DC about jumping in here with any kind of "invasion force", as that force will not only be met with the fury of the Venezuelan people, but also by China and Russia, which have intense financial interests here, and will probably react very forcefully, should the US invade Venezuela.

And President Trump, please; a word, here.

As a Christian pacifist activist, I have always hoped that the US could manage to "engage rather than enrage" regimes with which we differ.

But sir, what I am seeing is that we have very little with which to engage.

Our GMO agriculture is a fright, and other countries have learned to manufacture products which are both cost effective, and work amazingly well; if you have an iphone, remember; this clever little gadget, which can do so much for us, is manufactured in China.

Our manufacturing has been offshored and outsourced, and that critical issue has to get fixed; but educating people as to how things are manufactured in the 21st century, and particularly with the integration of AI now, takes time.

The only thing left, in which the world is interested, is our weaponry, and that is already getting shown up by some incredible work in Moscow (brilliantly field tested in Syria, as you know) and Beijing.

So I can see why you, and the people surrounding you, are playing the "enrage" card against countries around the world; that is because it is the only card the US has to play right now.

Military actions against countries on the US government's "to regime change list", may well unleash a world war of epic magnitude, the likes of which have never been seen before, with a devastation potential for destroying most of the life left on earth, including humankind. Talk to the scientists who are privy to this information; I am very sure they will tell you much the same.

I remember a quote from the great genius, Albert Einstein. When queried about what weapons would be used in the next "great war", his response was the following "I don't know about the weapons for the next war; but I do know about the weapons which will be used in the war after that. The questioner pressed, "And what will those be, Dr. Einstein?!? At which point, Einstein shot the guy a look, and said, "Sticks... and stones"

‘US should look for its problems at home’ – Russian minister on Soros rant about ‘dangerous’ China

Washington should focus on actually fixing its domestic problems instead of searching for external enemies to blame them on, Russia's Minister for Economic Development Maksim Oreshkin said.

The remarks were in response to the words of liberal billionaire George Soros, who lashed out at China speaking at the Davos economic forum in Switzerland.

“China is not the only authoritarian regime in the world but it is the wealthiest, strongest and technologically most advanced,” Soros said. “This makes Xi Jinping the most dangerous opponent of open societies.”

IRAN ANNOUNCES OIL DISCOVERY IN UNTAPPED REGION

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh has told the media that the national oil company NIOC struck light sweet oil in a hitherto untapped oil region.
“This is the first time we’ve reached oil in the Abadan region,” Zanganeh said, adding that the grade was very light and sweet, but giving no details regarding the amount of reserves contained in the reservoir.

Iran has continued to pursue new oil production opportunities despite US sanctions that have reduced its crude oil exports significantly although probably not as significantly, to date, as planned. As of December, Iran was shipping some 1.3 million bpd abroad, the International Energy Agency said in its latest Oil Market Report.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like ,yet AGAIN, President Trump's sanctions on Iran are crumbling catastrophically, very much like the thoroughly lousy asphalt roads (obviously awarded to the lowest bidders here on Oahu) to which its drivers are subjected daily).

Not only that, but in his "mega-sanction-blitz", he has succeeded, rather splendidly, to drive China, Iran, and Russia closer together economically and politically; and if that was NOT his design intent, he had better wash the chalk off the blackboard, and start from scratch, and quickly.

SOROS CALLS XI ‘THE WORST ENEMY OF FREE SOCIETIES,’ CHINA SAYS IT’S NOT EVEN WORTH A RESPONSE

Liberal billionaire and renowned political meddler George Soros has labeled Chinese leader Xi Jinping ‘the most dangerous opponent of open societies.’ China says it’s a gross distortion not even worthy of a rebuttal.
Speaking at the Davos economic forum in Switzerland, Soros attacked China’s “social credit” system and technological advances, saying artificial intelligence and machine learning, put “in the hands of repressive regimes,” are a “mortal danger facing open societies.”

“China isn’t the only authoritarian regime in the world, but it’s undoubtedly the wealthiest, strongest and most-developed in machine learning and artificial intelligence,” said Soros, known for using his money to organize and support movements against the governments he deems oppressive.

The “main source of hope” against Xi are the Chinese people, whose aspirations, according to Soros, are sharply distinct from the regime’s.

Beijing brushed off Soros’ attack.

Webmaster's Commentary:

An oddly ironic comment, by a guy who wants total control of the world, through his "open borders"policy AI, and the NGOs he continues to fund.

Chinese investment in US plunges 83% amid simmering trade war

Chinese investments in North America and Europe fell by 73 percent last year as a result of tightened US scrutiny of foreign takeover deals and Beijing’s restrictions on outbound investments.

Data from law firm Baker & McKenzie showed that Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into the United States have also turned negative, falling to the lowest in seven years. Chinese investments in the US fell by 83 percent, while growing by 80 percent in Canada.

Last year, Chinese companies completed just $4.8 billion in new business acquisitions and investments in the US, down 84 percent from $29 billion in 2017 and 90 percent from $46 billion in 2016.

Trump tariff fail? China’s trade surplus with US hits highest level in more than decade

Despite efforts by the Trump administration to pressure Beijing into reducing the US-China trade deficit, the trade surplus with the US still reached $323.32 billion last year – the highest level since 2006.

The trade surplus grew 17 percent from around $275 billion a year ago, China’s General Administration of Customs announced on Monday. The figure is the highest on record since 2006, according to government-affiliated Global Times newspaper.

Exports to the US surged 11.3 percent year-on-year in 2018 to $478.4 billion, while imports from the US to China rose a scanty 0.7 percent over the same period.

China to dethrone US as world’s largest retail market in 2019 – report

Retail sales in China are poised to surge this year and exceed US retail by more than $100 billion, bringing it the crown as the top global retail market, according to a forecast by research firm eMarketer.

The total sales to consumers of world’s most populous country and second-largest economy are expected to hit around $5.64 trillion in 2019, an increase of 7.5 percent since last year, the US-based research company concluded in a report published on Wednesday. Meanwhile, retail sales of its trade-war rival, the US, are projected to surge 3.3 percent to reach nearly $5.53 trillion.

‘All Chinese money into Silicon Valley stops’ after Huawei ban, former Beijing banker warns

Beijing may cut off all investment to Silicon Valley over Western pressure on China-based Huawei, the former deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China has warned as business leaders gathered in Davos.

“I can tell you, after the Huawei events, all the Chinese money into Silicon Valley stops. And no US money will want to invest into China either,” Zhu Min told CNBC on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Tuesday. He did not elaborate on what should happen to bring about such an outcome.

The Chinese telecoms giant, which last year even beat US-based rival Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone maker, has recently been targeted in the West over alleged spying and claims that it poses a security threat.

Soros: US and China Engaged in Cold War That Could Turn Into Hot One 'Soon'

Billionaire and Democratic Party donor warned on Thursday that the US and China, the world's two largest economies, are locked in a "cold war that could soon turn into a hot one."

Soros, a well-known critic of the Trump administration, said during a private dinner at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland that Trump’s decision to call China a “strategic” competitor in 2017 was “too simplistic”, according to CNBC.

“An effective policy towards China can't be reduced to a slogan. It needs to be far more sophisticated, detailed and practical; and it must include an American economic response to the Belt and Road Initiative,” he said.

Chinese tech companies pose ‘mortal danger’ & can’t be allowed to dominate – George Soros

Artificial intelligence and machine learning pose a grave threat when they are controlled by authoritarian states, according to billionaire George Soros. He has called for a crackdown on Chinese tech companies.

Talking to journalists and executives attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, he said on Thursday the use of such technologies by the Chinese government is a “mortal danger.”

The businessman said that the United States should apply more pressure to Chinese tech companies Huawei and ZTE, which have been labeled national security threats by some US officials.

US Has Its Gunsights On Venezuela – OpEd

On January 10—Nicolas Maduro was sworn in for his second term as president of Venezuela. “I tell the people,” Maduro said, “this presidential sash is yours. The power of this sash is yours. It does not belong to the oligarchy or to imperialism. It belongs to the sovereign people of Venezuela.”

These two terms—oligarchy and imperialism—define the problems faced by Maduro’s new government.

Pressure on Venezuela has been intense. U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly called for the overthrow of the Bolivarian government, led by Maduro. Sanctions have been ratcheted up. Economic warfare has become normal. Threats of a military invasion are in the air.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are a number of US military bases in South America from which the
US may stage an attack against Venezuela at any moment.

Here are the number of US bases in the country of Columbia, garnered from a document formerly on the net but has been pulled: "The Plan for Seven New Bases: The new agreement was finalized on October 30, 2009 and will allow the US military the use of 7 existing bases in Colombia. These Bases include 2 naval bases: Cartagena and Tolemaida, 3 air force bases: Malambo, Palanquero, and Apiay and 2 army bases: Larandia and Tolemaida. Although I was not able to identify where these bases are on a map, my best bet is that at least one of these cities is very close to Venezuela.

Number of US bases in Columbia These Bases include 2 naval bases: Cartagena and Tolemaida, 3 air force ... Colombia receives the most foreign aid from the US of any country in the ... Additionally, Paraguay rejected a plan to bring 500 US troops into their borders. ... The well publicized speeches of Hugo Chavez of Venezuela are only part of the story.

Mike Pence Calls for Coup d’Etat in Venezuela

Venezuela is a prime target because of its world’s largest oil reserves. US dark forces want Big Oil controlling them.

They want fascist tyranny replacing Bolivarian social democracy. They’re waging longstanding political, economic, financial, and sanctions war on the country – military intervention an option if current tactics fail.

Previous US coup d’etat attempts failed. Another slow-motion one is underway. On Tuesday, Mike Pence encouraged the toppling of democratically reelected Maduro.

He turned truth on its head calling him a “usurper,” a “dictator with no legitimate claim to power,” falsely adding “(h)e has never won the presidency in a free and fair election, and has maintained his grip of power by imprisoning anyone who dares to oppose him.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

China Joins Russia In Slamming US Interference In Venezuela

Back in March, we asked a simple question: Can Russia & China Rescue Venezuela?

Realistically, and in retrospect, the answer was always no, but the reason we asked the question was simple: both China and Russia have extended massive credits to Caracas, and Maduro's regime in particular. As such, letting the country “die” was never an option that either Beijing or Moscow would gladly accept; neither was it an option to allow a transition in Venezuela's top power echelons, one which replaces the pro-Russia and China Maduro regime, with another regime which would, supposedly, be supported and endorsed by the US, and thus jeopardize Venezuela's obligations to the two nations.

And, as we also said last March, "chances are that Washington is aware of the role that China and Russia play there. Otherwise [Washington] would have already gone ahead with the broad oil sanctions, despite potential headaches for U.S. refineries."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I hope the folks at the White House, Pentagon, and State Department are "reading the tea leaves correctly" here, watching what is happening on the ground here; one, maladroit reading of the teal leaves, and we may well be off an running into another idiotic, headlong invasion of Venezuela, buffeted by China and Russia coming in on Venezuela's side.

This would be pure insanity, on the part of the US. But unfortunately, just because something is so hamfistedly, pigheadedly stupid as to be immediately disregarded, is no guarantee that the US government won't do it.

Apparently, when it comes to idiocy, when it comes to US government decision making, we have a brilliant new example:

US Navy Vessels Sail Through Taiwan Strait Despite Beijing's Past Warnings

The US Navy sailed two of its vessels through the Taiwan Strait on Thursday, the US Pacific Fleet, which oversees operations in the area, and Taiwan's Ministry of Defense both confirmed.

After the confirming that the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell and the Henry J.Kaiser-class fleet replenishment oiler USNS Walter S. Diehl traveled through the strait, the ministry noted that Taiwan's military is in full control of the situation, Focus Taiwan reported.

US Pacific Fleet spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Tim Gorman told CNN that the American vessels "conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit" that was in complete "accordance with international law."

"The ships' transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The US Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," he added.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS LITERALLY MAKING PEOPLE SICK

I do not for one second doubt that Americans are feeling more stressed and suffering more health-degrading symptoms as a result than they were prior to Trump’s election. But Pacific Standard and its “growing body of research” ignore the most obvious and significant culprit behind this phenomenon which is tearing people’s health to shreds: the mass media which has been deliberately fanning the flames of Trump panic.

The always excellent Moon of Alabama blog has just published a sarcasm-laden piece documenting the many, many aggressive maneuvers that this administration has made against the interests of Russia, from pushing for more NATO funding to undermining Russia’s natural gas interests to bombing Syria to sanctioning Russian oligarchs to dangerous military posturing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What is infinitely more grating, from where I sit, is not the "Trump Panic Syndrome", but the "Trump Reality Syndrome", which includes things he had promised on the campaign trail which he has not done... and things President Trump has done, in these first two years of his Presidency.

1. The massive disparity between the monied and the desperate keeps growing exponentially. There are little victories, of smaller companies moving back to the US (probably with some rich state/town perks and benefits for having done so.) But the consistent off-shoring, out-sourcing of American jobs continues apace. There is an epidemic of homelessness in this country which is unprecedented.

Remember the stunning scenario which inspired Victor Hugo to create his "Les Miserables"?!? In 1845, on the streets of Paris, he observed the same incident that triggers the novel's action. On a sunny but cold day, he saw an impoverished man being arrested for stealing a loaf of bread. As the man stood on the street, an ornate carriage pulled up beside him. Inside there was a dazzlingly beautiful woman dressed in velvet, playing with a child hidden under ribbons, embroidery and furs. The impoverished man stared at the woman in the carriage, but she was totally unaware of him. Hugo wrote that he saw this man as, "The spectre of misery, the ghostly forewarning in full light of day, in the sunshine, of the revolution still plunged in the shadows of darkness, but emerging from them. The moment he became aware of her existence, while she remained unaware of his, a catastrophe was inevitable."

Folks, we're there, right now; history may not necessarily repeat, but occasionally it rhymes. And let me say, for the record; as a Christian pacifist activist, I abhor violence, and would never advocate its use.

And those great pronouncements about the employment in this country, are running so low; this is a marvelous subterfuge, and a neat "hat trick", courtesy of the Department of Labor Statistics.

You see, people who are unemployed for more than 4 weeks, are deliberately purged from the figures as not interested in working, almost as though they had never existed at all.

If the US unemployment rate included everyone who says they want a job, it would be nearly double

2. President Trump withdrew the US from the P5+1 deal, even though the IAEA continues to state that the Iranians are currently keeping their end of the deal. I cannot begin to articulate just how completely insane, and counter productive this was. There are many things about which I rightly criticized the Obama Administration, but this was not of them. And the consequences?!?

Remember: demonization, plus Sanctions, create the American Preludes to War.

We are on the doorstep of such a war against Iran, because Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, keeps advocating it, calling Iran "the existential enemy" of Israel. We are plunged into our "2 minutes of hate against Iran", ad nauseum, by the corporate presstitutes. So, let's see, what could possibly go wrong here?!?

Emboldened by one of his BFFs in the Middle East, President Trump, Israel has been making bombing runs into Syria to destroy alleged Iranian placements of personnel, and equipment in that country. Netanyahu: we will not stop fighting Iran as long as I lead Needless to say, Iran is not amused with these actions, and Russia, who has been assisting the Syrian government in getting rid of US backed, equipped, and funded jihadis in Syria, has told Israel in no uncertain terms, to back off. As of yesterday, Russia blasted Netanyahu with the following demand: Israel's airstrikes against Syria must stop. We also see the following headline: World War III: Iran, Syria, Russia and Israel

I do hope our President understands the following: Tel Aviv thoroughly expects the costs of such a war to be borne in American blood and money; not Israeli. Should such a war begin, expect Russia (and perhaps China) to come into the fray on Iran's side.

3. And speaking of war, let's remember the Saudi war against Yemen, where the American government and military are complicit in Saudi war crimes. Why Are U.S. Bombs Killing Civilians in Yemen?

The reason is simple: The Saudis love to buy American bombs to continue to create a genocide in Yemen.Saudi Arabia is the top buyer of US weapons" President Trump has, by default, and his sign-off on all these deals, has given him yet another title: The American Merchant of Death in Chief.

Please think about that for a minute. Did you ever think, when you were a kid, about how you would feel, understanding you would be a citizen of a US government which would be complicit in war crimes?!?

3. The illegal immigration solutions President Trump promised the American people, have gone down in flames.

4. Us sanctions around the globe in places like Russia, China, and Venezuela, are pushing other countries further away from the US, both in relationships, and finding creative ways to ditch the dollar, and come to other understandings about how finance can be conducted.

5. I notice the corporate presstitutes are continually spewing out their vile codswallop against countries which have done nothing to the US, to further the governments'agendas which, at this time, seem to be all-out war-centric. The two countries which come to mind, are Iran, and Russia.

The US government accuses Russia of having "annexed Crimea", which never, in reality, did happen; After the 2014 Putsch in Ukraine, Crimea did two things; in a fair and peaceful referendum, the Crimean government asked the people of Crimea, if they wanted to stay in Ukraine, or petition the Russian Federation for membership. The Crimean people voted overwhelmingly to petition the Russian Federation for a membership, and the Russian Federation accepted this. And please remember: in an interview with CNN, President Obama confessed to have brokered a deal for "regime change" in Ukraine. In a CNN interview, President Obama Confesses that the US brokered a deal for" Regime change" in Ukraine, January, 2015

6. The US has left a ton of military footprints around the world. the list is breathlessly long, and may contain country names you haven't thought about since High School Geography, or may have been recently created

These are the true issues of "The Trump Reality Syndrome".

Please understand that I am just as angry about these issues as many of you are, but realize that I need to channel my anger into logic, research, and coming up with alternate ways in which this country could get what it wants, geopolitically, without resorting to war.

Because right now, war - and the monied who become enriched through war and military conflicts around the world - are winning, and I am singularly depressed about this.

China DEFENDS Russia, Blasts US Cold War Mentality

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying has spoken out against the publication of the new US National Intelligence Strategy, in which China and Russia are referred to as “adversary” countries against the US.

“We have taken note of the wording that [the United States] mentioned in the updated version of the US National Intelligence Strategy, which has just been published in the United States. The United States has issued a series of reports, which present unfounded accusations against Russia and China,” said Hua Chunying, a ministry spokesman in a statement.

Chunying urged the United States to make further efforts to strengthen mutual trust between the two countries and maintain international peace and stability, as well as urging Washington to abandon the Cold War mentality.

Pentagon: Chinese Military Units Training With ASAT missiles

Chinese military forces have deployed multiple units armed with anti-satellite (ASAT) missiles that can destroy scores of American satellites, according to a Pentagon intelligence report.

The new report by the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, known as NASIC, revealed that People's Liberation Army units have begun training with the satellite-killing missiles.

The report warns that China, along with Russia, has developed an array of space arms designed to challenge U.S. space superiority. The report was made public last month.

The report for first time reveals that Chinese military units already are conducting training for space attacks with anti-satellites missiles. Russia also is developing a new anti-satellite missile the report said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Then the question must be asked, and honestly answered; why is the US not ahead of China and Russia in these technologies?!?

What is almost so insestuous about the relationships between the military/industrial complex, and those corporations which provide their weapons, that the quality of weaponry keeps deteriorating, and costs for these programs are mushrooming out of control?!?

CHINESE COURT PRESENTS APP TRACKING NEARBY ‘DEADBEAT DEBTORS’ WITH MAP OF ‘SHAME’

The “People’s Court” of China’s Hebei province has introduced a new app which identifies and even maps the location of people dodging their debts to help create a “socially credible environment,” state media reports.
The program has been described as “a map of deadbeat debtors,” revealing their financial information and exact location to nearby peers. The app brings snitching on your neighbors into the 21st century, making it simple and convenient to report those with outstanding financial obligations to the authorities.

According to ChinaDaily, a news service run by the Communist Party of China, the app will show if someone with bad credit is within 500 meters, making it easier for citizens to “whistle-blow on debtors capable of paying their debts.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, then, why are not the leaders of the Chinese Communist Party, forced to wear this device 24/7?!?

Because rules like this are only for those considered "peasants", never the leadership.
