Federal Subsidies for Corn Ethanol and Other Corn-Based Biofuels

Since its creation of the domestic market for corn ethanol after the energy crisis of the 1970s, the federal government has nurtured and maintained the ethanol industry with a steady stream of subsidies. After more than 30 years of federal backing, corn ethanol subsidies scattered throughout the federal tax code and farm bill energy title should be eliminated once and for all. Originally sold as a way to achieve energy independence and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ethanol has been a favorite of many lawmakers: ethanol producers have received favorable treatment under the tax code, tariff protection from foreign competition, and even a government mandate for its use. As a result, taxpayers have spent billions of dollars over the last 30 years subsidizing the production of corn ethanol, while at the same time creating unintended costs for consumers and the environment.

Scott Adams: How a Systems-Thinking President Can Settle the Climate Science Debate

This idea in today’s Wall Street Journal talks about creating a “Red Team” to dig into the climate science debate and come up with a conclusion for the public. I call that a good system.

Systems are better than goals. A goal, in this case, might be to “Convince the public that climate change is a big problem.” That’s a clear goal, but what if it isn’t the best outcome? That’s where a system (such as forming a Red Team) comes in handy. The system will solve for credibility while informing the public of whatever comes out of the exercise.

You can’t govern better than that. Period.

The Assault on Science is Not New

We should all “March For Science” this Earth Day. But let’s get one thing straight. The assault on science is nothing new. It’s been going on under Democrats and Republicans alike for decades. Trump’s attacks are particularly blatant and vociferous, but the situation was thoroughly unacceptable long before he moved into the White House.

The solution isn’t changing administrations. It’s changing the system.

Here’s what’s we’ve been dealing with for decades with respect to science and science-based public policy:

It snowed so much this winter Squaw Valley might stay open straight through next year

Did you hear? It snowed a lot in the Sierra Nevada this winter. Unless you spent the cold months avoiding the news (we wouldn’t blame you), then you already know it’s a record-breaking season.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, sister ski resorts north of Lake Tahoe, have tallied nearly 60 feet of snow this winter. At a slightly higher elevation, Sugar Bowl at Donner Summit hit 751 inches — 63 feet! — this month. Last week alone, Squaw reported three feet of snow.

Last Thursday, the National Weather Service announced the Northern Sierra Nevada region, comprising eight separate climate stations, achieved its wettest water year on record.

Judicial Watch Sues for Obama Global Warming Documents

For eight years, the failed Obama administration put jobs, security, and common sense on the back burner in order to push the “global warming” agenda.

It was about more than just job-killing regulations, like Obama’s full-throated attack on the coal industry. The religious-like belief of the left’s “watermelon” agenda (Green on the outside, red on the inside. Get it? Red like communism!) went so far that they pushed it on the military. That’s right, taxpayers like you and me paid $150 PER GALLON for “green” military fuel.

Obama and the Democrats bilked taxpayers for hundreds of millions of dollars for scams like Solyndra. And it’s all because of their claim that “the science is settled” and “all scientists agree.”

Not so fast – investigative experts at Judicial Watch are bringing suit against two of Obama’s top scientists. Check this out:

Storm brings spring snow to southern Utah

US Will Keep Ground Troops in Libya

In a press briefing at the Pentagon today, African Command leader Gen. Thomas Waldhauser announced that the US intends to keep ground troops in Libya for the foreseeable future to support “friendly forces,” and to “degrade” the ISIS forces that remain in the country.

Waldhauser did not specify how many US troops are in Libya now, or how many will stay, but did estimate that there were less than 200 ISIS fighters left in Libya. The US had announced the end of the anti-ISIS campaign in Libya back in December, but never fully withdrew from the country.

The US forces were in Libya trying to help the “unity” government defeat ISIS in the city of Sirte. US officials repeatedly claimed the city was totally surrounded, and that no ISIS fighters would get away, though when the fighting finally ended, a substantial number of ISIS fighters did in fact get away.

It all began in Syria, Gore explained, unchallenged by a fawning interviewer from the film magazine Empire.

Not only was there ice, there was more of it! Back in 2000 the "experts" claimed snow was a thing of the past ... to be followed by several record winters! Scott Adams: How to Convince Skeptics That Climate Change Is a Problem

I don’t know much about science, and even less about climate science. So as a practical matter, I like to side with the majority of scientists until they change their collective minds. They might be wrong, but their guess is probably better than mine.

That said, it is mind-boggling to me that the scientific community can’t make a case for climate science that sounds convincing, even to some of the people on their side, such as me. In other words, I think scientists are right (because I play the odds), but I am puzzled by why they can’t put together a convincing argument, whereas the skeptics can, and easily do. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

Hawaii Had More Snow This Week Than Denver Or Chicago Has Had All Year

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning in Hawaii this week. While that may sound peculiar, it’s not all that extraordinary. It snows nearly every year on the Big Island’s tallest mountains, where the warning was issued.

But during that blizzard, which lasted late Tuesday to early Wednesday, the Big Island received more snow than Denver has received all year, according to Fox 31 Denver.

Western Snowpack Is So Deep Scientists Can't Measure It

There's so much snow in the West right now that scientists can't even measure it. Their tools simply don't work.

"We're not even close," hydrologist Jeff Anderson told the Reno Gazette-Journal after sticking a tube more than 16 feet into the snowpack on Slide Mountain without touching the ground. Despite the scientists' struggle, the massive amounts of snow spell good news for the drought-stricken region

Trump Orders EPA To ‘Zero Out’ Global Warming Programs

Includes list of all the programs NACAA said OMB wants “zeroed out”

(Daily Caller News Foundation) The White House is pushing for significant cuts to EPA programs and staff levels, giving a glimpse of how the Trump administration plans on devolving more control to the states.

The budget plan sent from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to EPA leadership calls for eliminating dozens of programs, including at least 16 that have to do with global warming and implementing former President Barack Obama’s climate agenda.

OMB also requested a 30 percent cut in grants to states and a 20 percent reduction in EPA’s workforce through buy-outs and layoffs. In total, President Donald Trump is calling for a roughly 25 percent cut to EPA’s budget — about $2 billion.

There's a blizzard warning in Hawaii

It's snowing in paradise. A blizzard warning was issued Wednesday for Hawaii's high mountain summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

The National Weather Service said snowfall totals of 6 to 10 inches are possible, along with wind gusts up to 65 mph, which will reduce visibility to less than 1/4 of a mile. Thundersnow is also possible. Temperatures should be in the 30s.

"If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you," the weather service advised. The blizzard warning is in effect until Thursday morning.

Snow isn't finished with us yet, Vancouver

It was snowing big, fluffy flakes over Vancouver on Tuesday morning, but as soon as it stopped, the tennis players and motorcyclists came out.

“I’ve got a guy out on a test ride right now,” manager Ryan Boehm said at noon over the phone from Vancouver motorcycle dealer Daytona Motorsports. “He waited until the snow stopped, he’s riding a brand-new 2015 Yamaha Tenere.”

Boehm said that despite a colder-than-usual January and February, business was brisk.

'Eminent Harvard Professor' Lauded In Vatican Bioextinction Paper Called For "Eliminating Religious Faiths For The Sake Of Human Progress"

The Vatican is holding a conference this week on 'Bioogical Extinction,' and they have uninvited the public and the press, as we reported earlier today. Upon closer examination of the document published by the Vatican's 'Pontifical Academy of Sciences' on 'Biological Extinction,' it's revealed that one of the esteemed 'experts' that the alarmist, far-left paper cites is ironically, a rabid humanist and anti-religionist who insists "What's dragging us down is religious faith." What's amazing is not that a scientist would say such a thing, but rather that the Vatican would promote his books instead of burn them.

Global Food Price Rises, Where and What Percentage of Crop Loss Will Increase Prices

Bob Kudla and I discussed food price rises and what percentage of crop yield loss will increase prices how much, by looking back in time to look for correlations to today’s climate conditions. We also spoke of areas in the world that can come on as bread baskets as other areas go off line due to intensifying grand solar minimum jet stream changes; Specifically Northern Africa and the political challenges of growing and getting crops to market and how the credit crunch for farmers will intensify this effect.

Scientists: Here's What Really Causes Climate Change (And It Has Nothing To Do With Human Beings)

A new study produced by a University of Wisconsin-Madison geoscientist and Northwestern astrophysicist presents an explanation of the fluctuations of the earth's temperatures that global warming alarmists are going to make sure to bury: The cycle of changes in the climate over the millennia is a result of changes in the amount of solar radiation, in part caused by small changes in the orbits of Earth and Mars.

Scott Adams: The Climate Science Debate Illusion

Today I declare the climate science “debate” to be mostly an illusion.

You think you live in a world in which there are climate science skeptics on one side of the debate, and climate scientists, plus their believers, on the other side. And you think they are talking about the same thing.

That isn’t what’s happening. It’s mostly an illusion.

I mean this literally. You perceive a debate, but that is mostly a shared hallucination.

Scott Adams: De-hypnotizing a Climate Science Zombie

I recently stumbled upon a way to nudge anti-Trump zombies off the idea that 97% of climate scientists agree with each other and Trump is on the wrong side. I’m not arguing about the accuracy of the estimate because I have nothing to compare it to. I’m only concerned that people are trusting the fate of the planet to that estimate without knowing how it was derived.

US Congress launches a probe into climate data that duped world leaders over global warming

Revelations by the Mail on Sunday about how world leaders were misled over global warming by the main source of climate data have triggered a probe by the US Congress.

Republican Lamar Smith, who chairs the influential House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology, announced the inquiry last week in a letter to Benjamin Friedman, acting chief of the organisation at the heart of the MoS disclosures, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

He renewed demands, first made in 2015, for all internal NOAA documents and communications between staff behind a controversial scientific paper, which made a huge impact on the Paris Agreement on climate change of that year, signed by figures including David Cameron and Barack Obama.
