Banned bread: why does the US allow additives that Europe says are unsafe?

Give us this day our daily foam expander. It may sound odd, but in America, your loaf of bread can contain ingredients with industrial applications – additives that also appear in things like yoga mats, pesticides, hair straighteners, explosives and petroleum products.

Some of these chemicals, used as optional whiteners, dough conditioners and rising agents, may be harmful to human health. Potassium bromate, a potent oxidizer that helps bread rise, has been linked to kidney and thyroid cancers in rodents. Azodicarbonamide (ACA), a chemical that forms bubbles in foams and plastics like vinyl, is used to bleach and leaven dough – but when baked, it, too, has been linked to cancer in lab animals.

Glyphosate exposure found to hike non-Hodgkin lymphoma risk by 41% … and this deadly weed killer chemical inundates our food supply

Natural News has been warning for years that glyphosate – the primary ingredient in Roundup, the world’s most widely used weed killer – causes cancer. Though studies were published in peer-reviewed journals confirming this link, Monsanto was able to use its massive political clout and almost bottomless funds to tear these studies apart and have them refuted.

Slowly but surely, however, the tide has been turning. The first blow fell when the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) announced its findings that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic” (cancer-causing) in humans, particularly with regard to a type of cancer known as non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Though Monsanto’s friends in the mainstream media immediately tried to attack these findings, the scientists involved are simply too respected in their field to be ignored.

AT&T'S DYSTOPIAN ADVERTISING VISION PERFECTLY ILLUSTRATES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SURVEILLANCE AND MONOPOLY

AT&T has come a long way from the supernormative, feel-good messages of its You Will ads; now CEO Randall Stephenson predicts a future where his company will dynamically alter your TV ads based on what it thinks you will buy; and chase you with that ad from your TV to your computer to your phone, and then spy on your location to see whether you go to a retailer to buy the thing you've had advertised to you; and use that intelligence to command high advertising rates from advertisers.

VIDEO GAME ADDICTION IS A MENTAL HEALTH DISORDER, WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION SAYS

Many parents already have concerns, but some may now have a new argument for limiting their children's 'screen time' — addiction to video games has been recognized by World Health Organization (WHO) as a mental health disorder.

The WHO's International Classification of Diseases (ICD), a reference bible of recognized and diagnosable diseases, describes addiction to digital and video gaming as "a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior" that becomes so extensive it "takes precedence over other life interests".

Huawei’s Android Replacement Smartphone OS Will Be Called HongMeng- Report

After Google restricted Huawei’s use of Android for its future smartphones, effectively cutting off Huawei from everything Google other than the Android Open Source Project, new reports from Chinese media have come out with the claim that Huawei’s in-house operating system (OS) for its smartphones will reportedly be called HongMeng.

While it’s been an open secret that Huawei has been working on its own operating system as a contingency plan in case the US-China trade war escalated the way that it now has, apparently, the company has been working on the new OS since as far back as 2012. The reports in the Chinese media are also claiming that the OS is being tested already and will gradually replace Android on Huawei’s hardware soon.

It is becoming clearer each day that new technologies are further highlighting the great expanse between intention and application. Bayer, Dow, L’Oreal using potentially harmful chemicals illegally – investigation

More than 650 companies are breaking European chemical safety laws, according to an investigation from German environmental group BUND. As a result, potentially harmful chemicals can be found in food, cosmetics, and toys.
“Chemical companies have been disregarding the law for years and getting away with it, selling substances that might cause hormonal cancers, brain disorders and other severe health problems,” said BUND’s chemical policy officer Manuel Fernandez. “EU and national authorities need to raise their game in a big way.”

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) acknowledged that companies have been known to flout chemical safety laws last November, investigating 700 widely used chemicals and finding that two thirds of them broke REACH, the agency’s key safety regulation.

Roundup® & Glyphosate Exposed For What They Are: Toxic, Disease-causing Chemicals

Even though Monsanto has been ‘taken down’ via a buy-out by Bayer Pharmaceuticals, the ‘legacy’ of its toxic herbicide, Roundup®, literally has become a chemical scourge upon human health, plus the environment by poisoning soil, ground water, insect pollinators and producing other adverse effects yet to be discovered.

One unsuspecting place glyphosate, the main chemical active in Roundup®, has been scientifically found is in certain vaccines per the Anthony Samsel, PhD, and Stephanie Seneff, PhD, independent, conflict-of-interest-free research on page 15 of the report Vaccines and Glyphosate: A Toxic Combination.

If you are one of WhatsApp’s billion-plus users, you may have read that on Monday the company announced that it had found a vulnerability. This vulnerability allowed an attacker to remotely upload malicious code onto a phone by sending packets of data that look like phone calls from a number not in your contacts list. Monsanto’s “Rain of Death” on Canada’s Forests

First Nations in Ontario have run out of patience. For 43 years, the forest industry has been conducting aerial spraying of glyphosate herbicide on Indigenous lands – a “rain of death” used in forest management practice that has slowly been killing off a wide range of animals, plants, fish and insects. First Nations have tried to stop this practice since the 1990s through a variety of measures including meetings with logging companies and government officials, protests and reports, but all to no avail. The “rain of death” keeps coming.

Bayer’s Stock Has Lost 44% Of Its Value Since They Bought Monsanto

Bayer’s stock price fell to a seven-year low this week, after the company lost a $2 billion lawsuit over claims that the weedkiller Roundup causes cancer. Along with the acquisition of the extremely profitable company, Bayer has also inherited a long list of lawsuits and reputation problems...

The media has turned against Monsanto, and Bayer is now facing a “snowball effect” of new lawsuits from victims of Roundup (glyphosate) exposure

With the acquisition of Monsanto by Bayer, a German corporation linked to the Third Reich and the chemical murder of Jews during the Holocaust, the U.S. media has now turned against Monsanto.

The $2 billion jury award against Monsanto that was just handed down by a California jury has been widely reported by the very same media that, for years, blacklisted any criticism of Monsanto, GMOs or glyphosate herbicide.

They did that because Monsanto ran a “black ops” division that bribed and threatened journalists across the country while keeping a “hit list” of which journalists to pay off or threaten with violence. Bayer has now become aware of this “black ops” division of Monsanto and has publicly apologized for its operation.

Chelsea Manning is jailed AGAIN after telling a judge she would 'rather STARVE to death' than testify before a grand jury investigating Wikileaks

Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning has been sent to jail - again - for refusing to testify to a grand jury.

A judge on Thursday ordered Manning back to the Alexandria Detention Center until she agrees to testify to a grand jury investigating Wikileaks or until the grand jury term expires in 18 months.

Manning, 31, has already served two months in jail but was released last week when that grand jury term expired.

Judge Anthony Trenga was not impressed with her rationale and said that jail time may cause her to reflect differently on the issue.

Manning told the judge that she would 'rather starve to death' than change her opinion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF she does die in jail (and I am hoping this will not happen), the Grand Jury will be unable to bring charges against Assange.

Bayer discovers “black ops” division run by Monsanto, shuts it down, initiates internal investigation as law enforcement prepares criminal charges against the chemical giant

For over a decade, Monsanto has been engaged in building and maintapining “hit lists” of journalists, lawmakers and regulators to be taken out if they opposed the evil agenda of GMOs and toxic glyphosate weed killer chemicals that now inundate the world food supply. Any influential person who opposed the Monsanto agenda was subjected to one or more of the following:

Attempted bribery

Death threats and intimidation

Character assassination through well-funded “negative P.R.” campaigns

Defamation via coordinated Wikipedia attacks, run by Monsanto operatives

Career destruction, such as getting scientists blacklisted from science journals

Being doxxed, having their home addresses publicized and their families and co-workers threatened

In other words, Monsanto has been running a “black ops” division for over ten years, spending perhaps $100 million or more on efforts to silence, destroy or assassinate anyone who interfered with the agricultural giant’s market dominance.

Why desperate Americans are driving to Canada in caravans for insulin

Quinn Nystrom was expecting the worst.

She thought the U.S. Border Patrol would want to search her car. That she would be bombarded with questions. That they would demand she show her prescription for insulin.

Worst of all, she was worried they would confiscate the small, cold vials of a life-saving drug that she had crossed the border to buy at a pharmacy in Fort Frances, Ont.

But it didn't happen. Not for Nystrom, not for anyone in her small group from Minnesota — calling themselves the Caravan to Canada — who were on a mission last weekend to buy insulin at one-tenth the price of what it's listed in the United States.

Canadian drug makers hit with $1.1B lawsuit for promoting opioids despite risks

Canadian drug makers enriched themselves at the expense of vulnerable patients by illegally and deceptively promoting highly addictive opioids that have killed thousands in recent years, a proposed class action filed Wednesday asserts.

The untested statement of claim filed in Ontario Superior Court seeks more than $1.1 billion in various damages from almost two dozen companies, including some of the biggest pharmaceutical names in the country such as Apotex, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Johnson and Johnson, and the Jean Coutu Group.

The suit, filed on behalf of patients who became addicted to prescribed opioids, also seeks a declaration that the companies were negligent in how they researched, developed and marketed opioids starting in the 1990s

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good; this should happen to any drug company which declared the risks of opioid pain killers to be "reasonable and manageable".

Google is about to have a lot more ads on phones

Google announced a bunch of new ad types today that’ll start showing up throughout its mobile products, including some that interrupt the core Google search and discovery experiences.

Google searches on mobile will soon include “gallery” ads that allow advertisers to display multiple images for users to swipe through. You’ll also begin to see ads in Google’s discover feed — the feed of news stories that you find built into many Android home screens, inside the Google app, and on Google’s mobile homepage — though they’ll only appear in select locations for now.

The new ad formats are meant to make ads a lot more noticeable. In a blog post, Google ad chief Prabhakar Raghavan says that, in tests, gallery ads resulted in “up to 25 percent more interactions” than traditional search ads.

In a rant on his Fox Business show, Varney insisted that the cancer victims had been awarded too much money.

£14m pay deal for boss of 'unaffordable' cystic fibrosis drug

The chief executive of a company making a potentially life-saving cystic fibrosis drug that the NHS says is unaffordable was paid $18.8m (£14.4m) in cash and shares last year, the Guardian can reveal.

A circular to shareholders ahead of the company’s upcoming annual meeting showed that Jeff Leiden’s deal was 81 times more than the median Vertex employee was paid and an increase on last year’s $17.2m deal. Separate stock market announcements show that he has also sold more than $70m of company stock over the past two years, some or all of it handed to him as part of his pay deals.

His personal remuneration in 2018 is enough to fund a one-year course of its cystic fibrosis drug Orkambi for 137 patients. Vertex is asking £105,000 per patient per year for the drug, which the NHS insists is not value for money. There are 10,400 children and young adults with cystic fibrosis in the UK, 40% of whom could benefit from Orkambi.

If you’re like most people, you usually don’t step out into the blazing-hot sun unless you’ve slapped on a good amount of spray or lotion to ward off the cancer-causing UV rays that bombard us when we go outside. And for many among us, this isn’t simply a case of slathering on sunscreen when we head to the beach or to an outdoor all-day picnic—no, we need the stuff daily for our day at work, school, or simple outdoor recreation.

But according to new research from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the chemicals in our sunscreen don’t merely sit on top of our skin until we rinse it off. Instead, many of the active ingredients enter our bloodstream at levels far in excess of what was previously believed...

Germany proposes $2,790 fine for unvaccinated children amid measles outbreak in US

Germany's health minister is proposing fines for parents of school-age children who haven't been vaccinated for measles amid concern that the highly contagious and potentially deadly disease could make a comeback.

In an interview published Sunday with German weekly Bild am Sonntag, minister Jens Spahn said parents who can't prove their children have been vaccinated for measles should have to pay up to 2,500 euros ($2,790).

The minister also proposed that children without measles vaccinations be banned from going to daycare facilities, to protect others who are too young or medically unable to receive a measles immunization.

EPA Proposes Re-approving Glyphosate, Ignoring Cancer Risk

Relying heavily on confidential industry research, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to re-approve glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup.

EPA’s conclusion that glyphosate poses no risks to humans contradicts a 2015 World Health Organization analysis of the leading independent research that determined glyphosate is a probable carcinogen.

“American consumers have no reason to trust the EPA’s deeply flawed assessment of glyphosate’s safety,” said Nathan Donley, a senior scientist at the Center for Biological Diversity. “As with past EPA studies, the agency has relied heavily on confidential industry research that can’t be reviewed by independent scientists. This is an industry-friendly conclusion that’s simply not based on the best available science.”
