The End of the Weekly Standard

The rumored demise of the Weekly Standard is yet another of Donald J. Trump’s achievements that will go uncelebrated by his liberal enemies: indeed, they are even now mourning the death of the neoconservative flagship as they never did when it was at the height of its maleficent glory.

And of course neoconservatism’s many fellow-travelers are out there with panegyrics. It “stood up for conservative principle” in the age of Trump, writes Meghan McArdle. What principle this might be, Ms. McArdle somehow neglects to say: perhaps it’s a penchant for perpetual war, the only known characteristic this famously eccentric and variable band hold in common. Both McArdle and the editors of the Standard thrilled their readers with stories of the great danger posed by Saddam Hussein, who they told us had nukes hidden beneath his palace ready to launch at a moment’s notice.

Let’s take a look at the three important roles played by the Standard and its editors in the history of the post-9/11 era.

Fury as Polish Media Shows Putin on Zyklon B Logo, Nazi SS Sign in Word 'Russia'

The Polish channel TVP earlier showed this poster of the Russian president while discussing the incident in the Kerch Strait when three Ukrainian warships crossed Russia's maritime border in violation of international law.

The editors of the Polish magazine Gazeta Polska have included a poster with the image of Russian President Vladimir Putin in its latest issue.

The portrait is stylized as the logo of Zyklon B, a cyanide-based pesticide infamously used by Nazi Germany in gas chambers during the Holocaust, and is accompanied by caption “Achtung RuSSia!” in which the letters “S” were replaced by a double rune “Sieg”, which symbolises the forces of the Nazis SS.

CBS paid former employee $5 million over 20 years to keep quiet about sexual assault: report

CBS paid more than $5 million in a settlement agreement reached in the 1990s with a woman who claimed former '60 minutes' executive producer Doug Hewitt sexually assaulted her, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Lawyers hired by CBS to investigate the workplace culture of '60 Minutes' are set to present a report to the board next week, according to the Times, which obtained a draft.

The report, precipitated by the high profile removals of '60 Minutes' producer Jeff Fager and CBS chief executive Les Moonves after sexual misconduct allegations, found the program's separation from the larger company to be one issue.

The relentless censorship of anti-Zionist Jews

Tony Greenstein is slowly but surely being disappeared from the internet. A renowned anti-Zionist Jew who has long been active in the Palestine solidarity movement and on the wider political left, Greenstein is being censored by powerful American internet companies. In the latest incident, his account on Twitter has been “suspended”, the company’s misleading euphemism for “deleted”.

This means that not only is Greenstein no longer allowed to post on the influential social media platform, but also that everything he ever posted on Twitter is no longer available to view. Go onto Twitter now and type in @TonyGreenstein – his former “handle” – and you’ll see nothing but a cryptic message.

"CNN is spreading fake news," says Trump in back-to-back tweets, "something's got to be done like starting our own Worldwide Network."

Tucker Carlson: Tucker Carlson: Trump ‘not capable’ hasn’t kept promises

***
The Swiss are very suspicious of anybody who is boastful. That's why I have a question about Trump…

…I hate that about him. I hate that… it's not my culture. I didn't grow up like that.

In your book you speak a lot about people who attack Trump, but you actually don't say very much about Trump's record.

That's true.

Do you think he has kept his promises? Has he achieved his goals?

No.

He hasn't?

No. His chief promises were that he would build the wall, de-fund planned parenthood, and repeal Obamacare, and he hasn't done any of those things. There are a lot of reasons for that, but since I finished writing the book, I've come to believe that Trump's role is not as a conventional president who promises to get certain things achieved to the Congress and then does. I don't think he's capable. I don't think he's capable of sustained focus. I don't think he understands the system. I don't think the Congress is on his side. I don't think his own agencies support him. He's not going to do that.

I think Trump's role is to begin the conversation about what actually matters. We were not having any conversation about immigration before Trump arrived in Washington. People were bothered about it in different places in the country. It's a huge country, but that was not a staple of political debate at all. Trump asked basic questions like' "Why don't our borders work?" “Why should we sign a trade agreement and let the other side cheat?” Or my favorite of all, "What's the point of NATO?" The point of NATO was to keep the Soviets from invading western Europe but they haven't existed in 27 years, so what is the point? These are obvious questions that no one could answer.

Apart from asking these very important questions has he really achieved nothing?

Not much. Not much. Much less than he should have. I've come to believe he's not capable of it.

>>>

(*if that's how he really feels then he's faker than anybody who goes on air and Actually Tells Viewers The Exact Same Thing ,and his book could only project that 'con-man' personality)

ABC Reporters Mockingly Imagine Trump’s Future Funeral

During a livestream of George H.W. Bush’s services, a pair of reporters for ABC News made off-color jokes about what they imagined a future funeral for President Trump would look like.

The inappropriate commentary has elicited criticism for the tone-deaf commentary during an extremely solemn event in the passing of the 41st President of the United States.

ABC correspondents Terry Moran and Devin Dwyer concluded, without evidence, that the Bush funeral represented a rebuke of the current occupant in the White House. The media the last few days have been desperately providing answers in search of a question, trying to link Trump to President Bush’s funeral in any possible means to portray him in a negative light.

Why Russia Won't Invade the Ukraine, the Baltic Statelets or Anybody Else

The AngloZionist propaganda machine is constantly warning us that Russia is about to invade some country. Of course, we are also told that NATO and the US are here to prevent that. Well, thank God for them, right?

“War Whores” Revisited. Flashback to Media Coverage of the 2003 Invasion of Iraq

Isn’t Amerika great? I mean, look at the world of (so called) television journalism. The more these characters ‘lay down’ for the masters of empire, the more they get compensated.

Let’s look at what transpired in March 2003 via our infamous ‘boob tube’. Before we get to that motley crew, we did have one of the unique and authentic (for those times) television news talk journalists, Phil Donahue and his daily show. His producer at the time, Jeff Cohen (of Fairness and Accuracy in Media), told this interviewer (on my internet radio show) that NBC, owned at the time by General Electric (a war industry corporation), gave him his ‘marching orders’ as to the show’s lineup of guests.

“We were covering, that winter, the run-up to a possible invasion of Iraq. I was told to make sure that for every guest on Phil’s show that was against the invasion etc, I needed to have two guests on in favor of the Bush/Cheney agenda.”

The chaos behind Donald Trump's policy of family separation at the border

Psychiatrist Dr. Pam McPherson and internist Dr. Scott Allen were also caught off guard. They too, work for Homeland Security, inspecting government detention facilities. They were already concerned about the poor quality healthcare for a limited number of children in custody before the new order. Dr. Scott Allen: There was an episode where children in a mass immunization program were immunized with the wrong dose, adult dose instead of child dose, because the providers at the facility weren't used to working with children and didn't recognize some very common color coding that would denote adult versus pediatric vaccines. They'd been writing reports of poor pediatric care in federal custody for four years when they heard that thousands more children were going to be cared for by the government, some of them in tent cities

USMCA ENTRENCHES TECH COMPANIES’ RIGHT TO CENSOR

President Trump hailed the trade agreement he signed with Mexico and Canada last week as “great for all our countries.” Perhaps he doesn’t know that the NAFTA-replacing trade agreement, USMCA, gives tech giants in Silicon Valley a special legal privilege to censor his own supporters — and anyone else they find “objectionable.”

Facebook, Twitter, Google, and YouTube all engaged in pre-election censorship against Republicans and Trump supporters. Yet they’ve managed to sneak a liability protection into President Trump’s trade bill that would make it even easier for them to censor their own users.

USMCA entrenches the tech giants’ legal protections under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which grant them legal immunity for user-generated content. This is an important part of the law that allows tech platforms to host a wide variety of speech with light-touch moderation.

Reuters Creates Fakenews About Iran - Intentionally Conflates Two Different Missiles - Misquotes Official

The Reuters piece conflates ground launched ballistic missiles with air-to-air missiles that the air force commander wants to develop. The U.S. does not care about Iran's air-to-air missiles. It itself has far superior ones. The U.S. does care about Iran's ballistic missiles. But the Iranian general did not talk about those at all. The quote Reuters attributes to the Iranian general it is taken out of context and used to propagandize a non-issue.

The FARS piece Reuters cites is absolutely clear with what the air force commander means, even while its headline is probably too generalized:

Manufacturing Truth

If you’re one of the millions of human beings who, despite a preponderance of evidence to the contrary, still believe there is such a thing as “the truth,” you might not want to read this essay. Seriously, it can be extremely upsetting when you discover that there is no “truth” … or rather, that what we’re all conditioned to regard as “truth” from the time we are children is just the product of a technology of power, and not an empirical state of being. Humans, upon first encountering this fact, have been known to freak completely out and start jabbering about the “Word of God,” or “the immutable laws of quantum physics,” and run around burning other people at the stake or locking them up and injecting them with Thorazine. I don’t want to be responsible for anything like that, so consider this your trigger warning.

They could get some of these players to roll over and point to higher-level criminals. The story could achieve tsunami status, at which point the government would have to make arrests and lay on trials in open courtrooms. -- But that doesn’t happen. Limited hangout rules the day.

Liberty Media angling to snag post-bankruptcy iHeartMedia

The idea: to create a soup-to-nuts toll taker for music lovers by combining iHeart with his other music properties, which include satellite-radio giant Sirius XM as well as concert promoter Live Nation and its Ticketmaster service, insiders said.

The Bottomless Dishonesty of CNN on Palestine and Marc Lamont Hill Firing

CNN has fired contributor Marc Lamont Hill for a speech he gave on Palestinian rights at the UN. The speech can be found here.

You can protest this outrageous firing at this petition site.

And here is a link to his book, Nobody: Casualties of America’s War on the Vulnerable, from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond, which everyone should buy and read.

CNN would have been under special pressure to fire Hill because he is a prominent African-American intellectual with a following in his own community, and the Israeli Ministry of Strategic Affairs (the propaganda arm of the Likud government) is worried about the boycott and sanctions movement spreading among American minorities who might sympathize with the oppressed Palestinians.

SHERYL SANDBERG ORDERED FACEBOOK STAFF TO INVESTIGATE GEORGE SOROS AFTER HE GAVE THIS SPEECH (READ IT)

Sheryl Sandberg asked Facebook staff to research George Soros because he gave a speech boldly critical of the social media giant as a “menace,” reports the New York Times tonight.

After Davos, "in an email in January to senior communications and policy executives," Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg "asked Facebook's communications staff to research George Soros's financial interests in the wake of his high-profile attacks on tech companies."

If she was willing to do this over a mere billionaire, imagine what Facebook might have done in researching news organizations and reporters who are critical of Facebook?

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would imagine that Sandberg's next actions will be to continue to deplatform, and professionally assassinate sites she doesn't like, with the usual poisoned cocktail of half-lies and innuendo, as we have seen, previously.

OF course, nothing will actually be done to prevent this, because Facebook Twitter, and Google, have become ugly-sister triumverate, in service to America's "Deep State.", which also despises honest logic, or alternative agendas than their own.

What a lifelong Democrat learned from a year trying to live like a Republican

Ken Stern did not expect to enjoy pig hunting in Texas.

As the former head of NPR, he did not expect to find common ground with the people of evangelical churches or eastern Kentucky coal mines. And he did not expect to renounce his Democratic membership.

But after a year immersed in Republican culture, Stern learned life on the other side of the political divide is far from how it's depicted — a problem he pins on a polarized media landscape, and the very institutions he formerly called home.

'Virtually everyone in the mainstream media is on one side of the political landscape and not the other.'

From Star Wars to Newsnight? BBC admits pro-Brexit pastor is also paid actor

The BBC has come under fire after a Brexit-backing pastor who staunchly defended Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal on Monday’s Newsnight program was revealed to also be a paid actor.

GOOGLE SHUT OUT PRIVACY AND SECURITY TEAMS FROM SECRET CHINA PROJECT

THE SECRECY SURROUNDING the work was unheard of at Google. It was not unusual for planned new products to be closely guarded ahead of launch. But this time was different. The objective, code-named Dragonfly, was to build a search engine for China that would censor broad categories of information about human rights, democracy, and peaceful protest.

In February 2017, during one of the first group meetings about Dragonfly at Google’s Mountain View headquarters in California, some of those present were left stunned by what they heard. Senior executives disclosed that the search system’s infrastructure would be reliant upon a Chinese partner company with data centers likely in Beijing or Shanghai.

Locating core parts of the search system on the Chinese mainland meant that people’s search records would be easily accessible to China’s authoritarian government, which has broad surveillance powers that it routinely deploys to target activists, journalists, and political opponents.

Did BBC hire a 'fake vicar' to back Theresa May's Brexit deal on Newsnight? Viewers discover guest is actress who appeared in Star Wars and EastEnders and claims to have been ordained by a US evangelist

The BBC has come under fire after it booked a Star Wars extra who calls herself a pastor through an agency for a Brexit discussion.

The broadcaster denied hiring a 'fake vicar' to appear on its flagship political programme after social media users hit out at the corporation.

Lynn Hayter appeared on Newsnight on Monday to defend Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit withdrawal agreement on the UK leaving the European Union.

Today she angrily denied she had been paid by the BBC as she spoke to MailOnline outside her home.

Ms Hayter, whose 'ordination' seems to have come in the form of a certificate from a US televangelist, said: 'I was not paid by the BBC . They did not pay me. I was contacted by an independent organisation and asked to appear.'

CNN fires Marc Lamont Hill for pro-Palestine comments, but gives a platform to Israeli gov’t spokespeople

Yesterday, CNN fired grassroots activist, professor, and occasional commentator Marc Lamont Hill after his passionate remarks at the United Nations defending freedom in Palestine and supporting the use of grassroots resistance against Israeli policies. In particular, Hill’s critics slammed his call for freedom in the holy land “from the river to the sea,” alleging that this long-standing, unambiguous Palestinian slogan of liberation amounted to calling for the “destruction” of Israel or otherwise contains some sort of anti-Jewish or anti-Israeli sentiment. Hill denies any secret meanings, and it prompts the question of what it says about Israel as an ethnocracy that freedom for Palestinians is perceived as “destruction”.

THIS GUARDIAN FAKE NEWS STORY PROVES THAT THE MEDIA CAN'T BE TRUSTED

Sources have said Manafort went to see Assange in 2013, 2015 and in spring 2016 – during the period when he was made a key figure in Trump’s push for the White House.

It is unclear why Manafort wanted to see Assange and what was discussed. But the last meeting is likely to come under scrutiny and could interest Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor who is investigating alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

A well-placed source has told the Guardian that Manafort went to see Assange around March 2016. Months later WikiLeaks released a stash of Democratic emails stolen by Russian intelligence officers.

Manafort, 69, denies involvement in the hack and says the claim is “100% false”. His lawyers declined to answer the Guardian’s questions about the visits.

The piece did not include the public denial Wikileaks issued to its 5.4 million followers one and a half hour before it was published.

There Is No Case Against Julian Assange So Lies Take the Place of Evidence

Assange is not a whistleblower or a spy – he is the greatest publisher of his age, and has done more to bring the crimes of governments to light than the mainstream media will ever be motivated to achieve. That supposedly great newspaper titles like the Guardian, New York Times and Washington Post are involved in the spreading of lies to damage Assange, and are seeking his imprisonment for publishing state secrets, is clear evidence that the idea of the “liberal media” no longer exists in the new plutocratic age.
