Baltimore Murder Crisis Could Hit Record, About To Record 300 Homicides For Fifth Straight Year

Update (Nov. 11): The murder crisis in Baltimore City could set a record this year.

The current homicide count is 296 as of Sunday afternoon, following a fatal shooting Saturday morning.

In the next week, the murder count could breach 300 for the fifth year in a row.

With 57 days left in the year, the city could record the most murders ever, would need to break 344 homicides, a record that was set in 2015.

Councilman Leon Pickett, who represents Baltimore's seventh district, told CBS 13 Baltimore that the murder crisis is "unacceptable."

"Let's be clear that one murder in our city is too much," Pickett said. "The fact that we're yet again approaching almost 300 murders is unacceptable. Everybody needs to rise up and express the outrage that should be with city approaching that.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Councilman Pickett, I hear you.

But when an area is plagued by intense poverty and unemployment (spurred by an educational system which passes kids when they are illiterate, innumerate, and unable to think critically, and are not learning job skills relevant for the 21st century), this is possibly why, instead of handling conflict resolution intelligently, people are blowing each other to kingdom come.

But there is another factor at work here.

Young people see how much their Federal government lies to them, and murders to expropriate resources; and seems to "get away with it", why should they not feel that they can do this as well, with no repercussions for their actions?!?

The US government needs very strongly to take a look at its ethics, in signing off on these seemingly endless wars for resources, and consider just where their collective bad examples may well be leading our youth.

Global Proxy War Escalates: "Destabilizing Operation" Sends Bolivia Into Political Chaos

Authored by Michael Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

Two days before Bolivian president Evo Morales was pushed out by the country’s military, Mark Weisbot of the Center for Economic and Policy Research penned a warning about what was happening, and what might unfold, in a Nation article titled, The Trump Administration Is Undercutting Democracy in Bolivia.

He noted:

Multilateral organizations like the Organization of American States (OAS) have a certain perceived impartiality because they are, in theory, controlled by a diverse group of nations. But sometimes a great power can wield a disproportionate influence. It could theoretically be a coincidence that both the Trump administration and the OAS have tried—without offering any evidence—to discredit Bolivia’s national election in the past couple of weeks. But it’s more likely that this dangerous, ugly, and destabilizing operation is being pushed by Washington.

Greece, China Sign 16 Belt And Road Deals To Open New Superhighway

Chinese President Xi Jinping is on an official visit in Athens Monday has signed 16 agreements in sectors including agriculture, energy, ports, and tourism aimed at increasing Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects in the European Union, reported Bloomberg.

President Xi met with political leaders in Athens Monday, after the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited China last week.

Beijing is planning on significantly boosting Chinese investment in Greece, which could lay the groundwork for a new superhighway of trade between Europe and China.

Webmaster's Commentary:

While abhorring Communism per se, because it takes living saints to make it work, and I have not seen too many of them this lifetime, I must admit that China's willingness to make deals, rather than wage wars, to get what it wants geopolitcally, is not at all a bad thing, in my book.

Let’s Invade Mexico! Another Entry in the Tourney of Damn Fool Ideas

I suppose that by now everyone has heard of Trump’s offer to send the American military to “wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth,” which he asserts can be done “quickly and effectively.”

If AMLO were to invite the Americans into Mexico, he would be lynched. Few Americans are aware of how much the United States is hated in Latin America, and for that matter in most of the world. They don’t know of the long series of military interventions, brutal dictators imposed and supported, and economic rapine. Somoza, Pinochet, the Mexican-American War, detachment of Panama from Colombia, bombardment of Veracruz, Patton’s incursion – the list could go on for pages. The Mexican public would look upon American troops not as saviors but as invaders. Which they would be.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, just because something would be the most ham-fistedly, bull-headedly stupid thing for this government to do, is no guarantee that they will not do it.

What President Trump should actually accomplish here, is to encourage a re-write the drug laws in this country, and make them legal; this would completely throw the profit motive out the door for the cartels.

Of course, with so many other people are prospering so mightily by allowing drug laws in this country to stay just as they are right now, this will never happen.

This, of course, includes the banks which launder drug money; the politicians who may well get "contributions" from those "concerned that drug laws in this country stay precisely a they are"; and of course, we cannot forget the stockholders, investing in those private prisons, where the people who get caught using, can wind up.

WFP: Hundreds of Thousands of Haitians on the Verge of Famine

The World Food Program warns Haiti is approaching famine like conditions, with more than 1 in 3 people in the country of 11 million in need of urgent assistance.

A food assessment in October finds 1 million of the nearly 3.7 million people suffering severe food shortages in Haiti are facing an emergency and are on the brink of famine.

The World Food Program reports food insecurity in Haiti's rural areas has increased by 15% since the last analysis, in December. For the first time, the assessment shows 850,000 people in the capital Port-au-Prince are suffering severe hunger, with many not sure when they will eat again.

To compound this dramatic situation, WFP spokesman Herve Verhoosel said humanitarian agencies' efforts to reach people in need have been hampered by security problems during the past seven weeks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Perhaps the Haitian people have developed a profound dislike of both the austerity under which they are forced to live, and the horrific leadership which has been foisted upon them by the West.

The unending corruption of Haiti's President Jovonel Moises and his Administration

And what does the West want to expropriate from Haiti, if only Haiti's people could be "pacified"?!? Let's look the CIA's Index Mundi to find out;

the Natural Resources of Haiti the article goes on to state: "Natural resources: bauxite, copper, calcium carbonate, gold, marble, hydropower, arable land

Definition: This entry lists a country's mineral, petroleum, hydropower, and other resources of commercial importance, such as rare earth elements (REEs). In general, products appear only if they make a significant contribution to the economy, or are likely to do so in the future."

BINGO: Haiti has rare earth elements, or REES, which are critical to enable 21st century technology to exist. As explained in the following article:
Facts About Rare Earth Elements

But do not think, for one minute, that the Haitian people are going to get any reward financially, when these rare earth elements are harvested, most likely by a Western-centric company, and only sold in US dollars; its current government is to see to that. at least as long as it is able to stay in power.

SYRIA, OIL, AND THE EXCEPTIONAL, INDISPENSABLE KLEPTOCRATS

Instead of reducing the number of troops as promised, Trump approved an expanded “military mission,” supposedly to “secure” Syrian oil.

Trump Expands Military Mission in Syria Aiming to Control Oil Fields https://t.co/LcPtAiBmmc

— Democracy Now! (@democracynow) November 8, 2019

The Donald is completely irrelevant.

“At a US government-funded think tank at the forefront of shaping Washington’s interventionist designs, an American official succinctly laid out the continued-regime change strategy,” writes Ben Norton for The Grayzone.

The “think tank”—the neocon infested Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is funded by clueless American taxpayers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I don't know what kind of bets the bookies in Vegas are taking on some kind of "false flag" (most probably engineered by our Israeli Frenemies in Tel Aviv) against American troops on the ground in Syria, or against Russian troops on the ground here, but I have a feeling that such an event may well happen soon, and it will be horrifically nasty.

One of the most iconic holidays for Americans, is our upcoming Thanksgiving; one has to wonder if this is the weekend planned for such an event, to be thoroughly screamed about throughout Thanksgiving Day, and well washed in the 24/7 news spin cycle by the time the following Monday rolls around.

Overnight polls should start, right after the beginning of the event, to see how many people in the US see it as a "justification" for a war against Syria, and off we go.

There is, however, one slight complication to this scenario; that is the Russian military presence in Syria, and just how far its President Putin is willing to go, to scotch such a move.

Should a shooting war start between the US and Syrian military, I seriously doubt that Putin is going to lead the Russian Parliament in a stirring rendition of "Kumbyah", where everyone holds hands, and sways to the music.

As much as Russia's Putin may not want to do it, he may feel that his hand has been forced, and he has to act against the US theft of Syrian oil, and its invasion of a sovereign state, where it has absolutely not been invited.

The Russian military response here may well be.... intense.

MSM ADAMANTLY AVOIDS THE WORD “COUP” IN BOLIVIA REPORTING

There has been a military coup in Bolivia backed by violent right-wing rioters and the US government, but you’d hardly know this from any of the mainstream media headlines.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the most recent development here, Morales has accepted Mexico's offer of asylum.

Evo Morales leaves Bolivio to take Asylum in Mexico

Folks, the pattern is painfully obvious here; the US government destabilizes an existing government, in a country with resources the US wants and needs, but for the cheapest prices possible; creates a US-centric government; bringa in US-centric corporations to expropriate those resources to which this country has no moral right; and insures that those resources are only sold in US dollars.

Sadly, for this administration and quite awhile before President Trump took office, the "Holy Trinity" of geopolitics for the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika has become destabilization; war and war crimes; and the theft of resources.

I used to think that this country's government was better than this; unfortunately it is not.

US Staged Coup d’Etat in Bolivia

by Stephen Lendman

The late William Blum documented CIA coups since WW II.

They’re staged to advance Washington’s aim for unchallenged global dominance. It’s not a pretty picture.

Variations of the same script are used to topple foreign leaders not subservient enough to US interests.

CIA dirty hands orchestrate things — the undemocratic National Endowment for Democracy, USAID, and other US agencies also involved.

Foreign right-wing politicians and military officials are bought like toothpaste to go along with diabolical plots to topple sovereign independent governments, US dark forces wanting pro-Western puppet rule replacing them.

Blum explained how the plot works, saying “on behalf of American business, and often with their help, the CIA mobilizes the opposition,” adding:

Nov 11 11:21

US War on China by Other Means

All independent nations unwilling to subordinate their sovereign rights to US interests are on its target list for regime change — notably Russia, Iran and China.

The Trump regime initiated Sino/US trade war has nothing to do with trade, everything to do with hardliners in Washington wanting China’s economic, financial, industrial, technological, and military development undermined.

Endless US-orchestrated violence in Hong Kong is one of many examples of how its dark forces aim to disrupt, destabilize, weaken, pressure, and bludgeon other countries to bend to its will.

War is a Racket is a book by Maj. General, Smedley Darlington Butler, the most decorated Marine in history, denouncing the military industrial complex. This reenactment video is a compilation of some of his speeches. The two-time Congressional Medal of Honor recipient exposes war profits that benefit the few at the expense of many. Throughout his distinguished career in the Marines, Smedley Darlington Butler demonstrated that true patriotism does not mean blind allegiance to government policies with which one does not agree. To Hell with war.

Alibaba Breaks 'Singles Day' Sales Record With $31 Billion Haul

Market strategists have repeatedly warned about the potential fallout from the collapse of retail sales in China, a trend that has already led to a recession in global auto sales, while Chinese factory output has also declined. But the economic doldrums facing the world's most populous country didn't stop Chinese consumers from posting a massive tab on Alibaba's Singles Day. In fact, according to CNBC, it was the largest haul in the 11-year history of Singles Day.

Across all of Alibaba's sales platforms (a group that includes both Alibaba's main website, the consumer-focused Tmall, and others), gross merchandise value (GMV) surpassed last year’s 213.5 billion yuan record (nearly $30.5 billion) on Monday afternoon local time, and kept rising through the rest of the day. At the close of the 24-hour Singles Day shopping event, sales surpassed last year's 213.5 billion yuan to log more than 215 billion yuan (or $30.7 billion) of purchases, BBG reports.

53 Million Americans Drowning In Cycle Of Low-Wage Work

For instance, a new report sheds light on 53 million Americans, or about 44% of all US workers, aged 18 to 64, are considered low-wage and low-skilled.

Many of these folks are stuck in the gig economy, making approximately $10.22 per hour, and they bring home less than $20,000 per year, according to a Brookings Institution report.

An overwhelmingly large percentage of these folks have insurmountable debts if that are student loans, auto loans, and or credit card debt. Their wages don't cover their debt servicing payments as their lives will be left in financial ruin after the next recession.

While the top 10% of Americans are partying like it's 1999, most of whom own assets, like stocks, bonds, and real estate, are greatly prospering off the Federal Reserve's serial asset bubble-blowing scheme and President Trump's stock market pumping on Twitter.

Today's artificial economy isn't working for everyone as the wealth inequality gap swells to crisis levels.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And while President Trump keeps chanting his "mantra" about the economy being "great", it is, unfortunately, only "great for the already monied.

There are many moments when President Trump appears to be absolutely, totally tone-deaf to the real needs and concerns of ordinary working people who have, through absolutely no fault of their own, found that their decent-paying job, enabling them to enjoy a middle class lifestyle, has been offshored/outsourced by corporations which relocate internationally, and pay pennies on the dollar for that country's labor.

California Approves $3.2 Billion Bond For High Speed Train To Nowhere

The high speed train is dead, long live the high speed train.

Less than a year after California Gov. Gavin Newsom brought California's dreams for a LA to San Fran bullet train crashing down, when he said in February that he is ending the state’s hugely expensive and hopelessly quixotic high-speed rail line fiasco (which would have been completed in 2033 at a staggering cost of $77 billion), California is about to unleash another high speed train project, and this one is even more idiotic.

The California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank) has authorized a $3.2 billion tax-exempt, fixed-rate revenue bond issuance to help DesertXpress Enterprises, an affiliate of Virgin Trains USA, build a high-speed train from Victorville, California, to Las Vegas. The new XpressWest service, at speeds of up to 180 miles per hour, will take about 90 minutes one way.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) Those who do not understand history (Unfortunately California's Legislature and Governor in this case, and we are talking about fiscal history) are doomed to repeat it, which apparently is what is happening here.

It would seem to me, that California has some really pressing problems to fix, like rotted infrastructure, and a burgeoning homeless population, so what does its government want to fix right now?!?

A problem which absolutely does not exist, of course!!

Bravo, folks, well done!! (not).

When I wrote my China’s long march to total food security NEO article last month, I had intended to dovetail it with Russia’s accomplishment of being more self-dependent on feeding its people. What they both shared was having to deal with US sanctions before they reached their goal.

Russia was hit with everything but the kitchen sink, with diplomatic sanctions initially and quickly moving into defense, energy and the financial arena, limiting access to foreign investment and attractive interest rate loans. Exxon Oil had to withdraw from some major Russian partnership deals, suffering big losses.

Global Debt Tops $188,000,000,000,000 – Officially The Biggest Debt Bubble The World Has Ever Seen

Authored by Michael Snyder via TheMostImportantNews.com,

The world is now 188 trillion dollars in debt, and that number continues to grow rapidly each year.

It is a form of enslavement that is deeply insidious, because most of those living on the planet do not even understand how the system works, and even if they did most of them would have absolutely no hope of ever getting free from it. The borrower is the servant of the lender, and the global financial system is designed to funnel as much wealth to the top 0.1% as possible. Of course throughout human history there has always been slavery, and the primary motivation for having slaves is to extract an economic benefit from those that are enslaved. And even though most of us don’t like to think of ourselves as “slaves” today, the truth is that the global elite are extracting more wealth from all of us than ever before. So much of our labor is going to make them wealthy, and yet most people don’t even realize what is happening.

"Clients With Guns" Are Demanding Deposits From Crisis-Stricken Lebanese Banks

Here we go as predicted: the Lebanese central bank attempts to prevent a "panic mode" scramble on the part of the public to remove all deposits, and the recently imposed (unofficial) regulations geared toward staving off capital flight are predictably failing fast, per Reuters:

“Clients with guns have entered banks and security guards have been afraid to speak to them as when people are in a state like this you don’t know how people will act.”

Lebanon's private banks reopened a week ago on Friday following a two-week closure due to massive anti-government protests which created gridlock across the country's main cities, including closure of other public institutions such as schools.

The World Bank weighed in on Friday, urging leaders in Beirut to form new Cabinet within a week, citing risks to Lebanon's stability as "deeply concerning," according to the AP.

California's Housing Nightmare Is Only Getting Worse

When historians look back on contemporary California, one thing they'll be bound to make note of is that the state's developers bet on the wrong model.

Endless, suburban sprawl is coming back to haunt California in ways both major and minor. In densely populated communities across the state, traffic is horrible thanks to underdeveloped public transportation (this is especially true in LA). Most residents have accepted that deadly, devastating wildfires are just part of the deal now - bound to recur endlessly until the state's population shrinks to the point that it no longer intermingles with the state's vast swaths of woodland.

Pentagon Official Warns China Exporting Killer AI Drones To Middle East

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper warned during a speech on artificial intelligence at the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence public conference Tuesday (Nov. 05) that China is exporting a series of "next-generation drones" to countries in the Middle East, reported Flight Global.

"Beijing has made it abundantly clear that it intends to be the world leader in AI by 2030," Esper said. "While the US faces a mighty task in transitioning the world's most advanced military to new AI-enabled systems, China believes it can leapfrog our current technology and go straight to the next generation."

Middle East countries banned from purchasing advanced US drones due to a weapons embargo are increasingly gravitating towards Chinese defense manufacturers.

Las Vegas becomes first major city to make it a crime to sleep or camp out on the streets as it moves to tackle the homeless crisis blighting cities across America

Las Vegas officials passed a law on Wednesday the first in the US that will make it illegal for homeless people to sleep on streets when beds are available at established shelters.

The measure will apply to the city's downtown urban core, not the tourist-heavy Las Vegas Strip, which is overseen by a different jurisdiction.

Las Vegas becomes the latest city in the US West - from San Francisco and Seattle to Honolulu and Salt Lake City - to try to deal with complaints about homelessness.

The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals struck down a similar law from Boise, Idaho, last year - calling it unconstitutional to prosecute people for sleeping in public places when there aren't enough shelter beds.

Sears To Close A Third Of Its Remaining Stores As Iconic Retailer Fades Away

Transformco, the shell company that bought bankrupt retailer Sears Holdings Corp. earlier this year, disclosed late Thursday that the "difficult retail environment and other challenges" have led to the decision to close an additional 96 stores by Feb. 2020.

Following the closures (51 Sears and 45 Kmart stores), Transformco will operate only 182 stores, a 57% decline of its Sears and Kmart footprint from 1Q19 of 425 stores.

The latest 96 closures are in addition to the 100 stores we reported last month.

In 2014, Sears operated 2,000 Sears and Kmart stores across the country have seen significant declining sales as consumer trends evolve to more e-commerce shopping.
