CRAZY Editor calls for "Stormin " Norman Schwarzkopf to Lead BP oil Cleanup

Call in the General

If Obama wants to turn things around – for the gulf and himself -- what he should do is put in charge someone who is unquestionably a capable, forceful and effective leader.

Someone like, say ... retired Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf.

Think about it.

Anyone old enough will well remember Stormin' Norman's riveting briefings during the first Gulf War. He made the war make sense, and you took comfort knowing that he was doing everything in his power to win it. And that he knew what he was doing.

Schwarzkopf became a celebrity as a result of those war briefings. The National Enquirer called him "America's sexiest man" and there was talk after the war of recruiting him for a presidential run.

The United States of Nigeria

The proud country of America has been turned into the United States of Nigeria.

While there are no paramilitary death squads in America (although such squads are used by the U.S. government against American citizens abroad - and see this), there are many other similarities.

BP is destroying the Gulf, because the government has supported BP without regulating it in any meaningful way.

Former Oil Worker Says Cleanup Just For Show

Former oil clean-up worker Candi Warren says she signed up to make a difference, but soon found out the work of cleaning the beaches was all cosmetic. That's what she was told, she says.

Warren says she knew that when crews worked during the day, the tide and surf buried oil overnight. But they were forbidden to dig it up. She quit in disgust three weeks ago despite the $18 per hour pay.

She said she was told to only clean the surface of the sand, that this is all cosmetic. She was on a crew at Gulf State Park where tourists go. She says it has priority so as to make it look like the beaches are clean.

We all live in an oil slick now

Extracting oil from the ground has always been disastrous for the people who live nearby. The only thing that is unusual about this morphing of "Drill, Baby, Drill" into "Spill, Baby, Spill" is that, this time, the world noticed the victims. To pluck one random example, in Ecuador the petrol companies have to pump water into the Amazonian oil fields in order to extract it. This leaves behind a toxic soup of mercury, benzene and chromium 6. For decades, it was simply pumped into the local rivers – causing an epidemic of cancers and severely deformed babies. A US court calculated that the unpaid liabilities for destroying so many lives could total more than $27bn. Who has heard of it?

Concerns Grow Over Long-Term Health Effects of Oil Spill

More than two months after the April 20 BP oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, experts are still trying to determine what the health effects will be on the workers who are struggling to clean up the biggest oil spill in American history.

There are concerns that some workers could suffer lung, kidney and liver damage from exposure to the volatile organic compounds found in the oil.

Her liver cirrhosis onset baffled doctors. "We were all coughing and vomiting for months," says Savage, who had no prior history of drinking or smoking and did not wear a respirator during the cleanup. "We thought it was the flu. Exxon told us crude oil was non-toxic and we believed them."

Factual Reporting: Possible Gulf Methane Eruption Tsunami, Earthquake

Thursday, June 24, 2010
Tsunami and Earthquake Reporting: Gulf Methane Bubble Could Be Horrific.
A new and less well known asymmetric threat has surfaced in the Gulf of Mexico oil gusher. Methane or CH4 gas is being released in vast quantities in the Gulf waters. Seismic data shows huge pools of methane gas at the location immediately below and around the damaged "Macondo" oil well. Methane is a colourless, odourless and highly flammable substance which forms a major component in natural gas. This is the same gas that blew the top off Deepwater Horizon and killed 11 people. The "flow team" of the US Geological Survey estimates that 2,900 cubic feet of natural gas, which primarily contains methane, is being released into the Gulf waters with every barrel of oil.

An Oilicane?

Should a major hurricane push the spill towards the gulf coast there will be nothing that can be done to stop it. No amount of planning or engineering will help. No number of visits to the gulf by the president or any other official will stop the inevitable. The storm surge will drive the water and the oil miles inland. Everything in its path will be coated in a greasy bath of crude. Even the wind may have oil in it. In New England, I have seen hurricanes and tropical storms that have blown salt spray many miles inland from the coast. The leaves of the trees eventually turn brown and fall off. In the case of the gulf it will be oil that will spray the trees, buildings and everything else in the way.

Methane in Gulf "astonishingly high": U.S. scientist

Texas A&M University oceanography professor John Kessler, just back from a 10-day research expedition near the BP Plc oil spill in the gulf, says methane gas levels in some areas are "astonishingly high."

Kessler's crew took measurements of both surface and deep water within a 5-mile (8 kilometer) radius of BP's broken wellhead.

"There is an incredible amount of methane in there," Kessler told reporters in a telephone briefing.

In some areas, the crew of 12 scientists found concentrations that were 100,000 times higher than normal.

What makes the location that Transocean chose potentially far riskier than other potential oil deposits located at other regions of the Gulf? It can be summed up with two words: methane gas.

BP Labor Camps

Disaster capitalism is the way of the entire country right now. Employers large and small are taking advantage of the dismal economic climate and they are padding their profit margins by rolling back pay rates and benefits for the average working man. It’s an all out assault on the standard of living of the blue-collar worker that I personally have seen growing in popularity over the past 24 years. Working Americans undermining other working Americans, literally stealing food right off their families tables, in order to achieve “just a little more” profit for themselves.

BP boss retreats as stand-in faces spill protest

Beleaguered BP Plc boss Tony Hayward retreated from daily management of the oil spill crisis on Tuesday and dodged a conference appearance where his stand-in was heckled by angry environmentalists.

Hayward's move, after a series of PR gaffes by the CEO and a failure to quickly stem the leak, came ahead of a U.S. court decision over whether to uphold a post-spill ban on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

The ban is being contested by oil drilling companies but has support among environmentalists and in other quarters after more fishing areas were closed on Tuesday in response to the worst spill in U.S. history.

Has BP Summoned the Fires of Hell?

The problem is no longer a leak or a spill, you see, but a volcanic gusher – one that appears to be defeating the efforts of the most capable petroleum engineers in the world. More and more, it is looking like a sci-fi disaster film with no hero and an unhappy ending. Even our supposed best hope for containing the gusher – a second well that would intersect and plug the leak by sometime in August – may be doomed to failure, since the well casing itself may be too damaged to seal off. But the scariest story currently making the rounds is that there are fissures springing up all over the seabed, and that if the weak bedrock that holds the oil gives way, it will release a quantity of hydrocarbons greater in volume than the Gulf itself.

Deepwater Horizon: The Worst-Case Scenario

So far, up to 3.6 million barrels of oil have spilled into the Gulf. The size of the Macondo oilfield has been estimated as being anywhere from 25 to 100 million barrels. It is unclear how much of that oil-in-place would escape upward into Gulf waters if its flow remained completely unchecked, but it is safe to assume that at least half, and probably a much greater proportion, would eventually drain upward. That means many times as much oil would enter the Gulf waters as has done so until now.

Judge Who Overturned Drilling Ban Has Oil Investments

The Louisiana judge who struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has reported extensive investments in the oil and gas industry, according to financial disclosure reports. He's also a new member of a secret national security court.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A rather disturbing picture is starting to emerge here. According to Wayne Madsen, the US Government was pressuring BP to reach that huge oil deposit at 35,000 feet because it would fuel the US war machine for the 8 months the invasion of Iran is supposed to take, during which oil traffic through the gulf is expected to be disrupted. This is why even after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, exemptions and waivers for environmental studies are being waived by the administration.

Being an election year, Obama is trying to look like he is protecting the environment, so he issues an order to halt the deep drilling and lets his buddy the judge on the secret FIA court knock it down. So the drilling goes on and Obama gets to pose before the voters.

And the invasion of Iran for Israel proceeds with only a modest delay.

Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?

When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics.

Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler's rhetoric and had far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions.

"Useful idiots" was the term supposedly coined by V.I. Lenin to describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the Soviet Union.

Put differently, a democracy needs informed citizens if it is to thrive, or ultimately even survive.

BP Had the Technology to Accurately Measure Amount of Oil Leaking into the Gulf Two years Ago

Would it surprise anyone to know that BP had already developed the technology to accurately measure troublesome oil and gas flow mixtures at the well head two years ago? It can be done remotely and continuously, at up to 10,000 feet, with a clamp-on, calibration free, sonar flow meter, or that the company that sells and installs them is presenting at petroleum conventions in Calgary and Newfoundland this summer?

The reason BP does not want the true flow known, is that it would require them to pay the "legitimate" fines and royalties they owe on what is extracted, regardless of whether it is ever recovered. As of mid-June their violations of the Clean Water Act alone are around $10B.

Jun 23 01:52

Too Much Government in the Gulf

It should be noted that BP is not exactly a bastion of free market capitalism. Rather, they are very vested in acquiring government subsidies, favorably slanted policies, and competition-hobbling regulation. BP has even been a major lobbying proponent of cap-and-trade because of certain provisions in the legislation it could profit from. Considering who lobbies for them and what they lobby for, my concern is that attempts to hold them strictly and fully accountable could end up being nothing more than a shell game, with taxpayers ultimately holding the bag.

Obama Administration Knew About Deepwater Horizon 35,000 Feet Well Bore

According to the Wayne Madsen Report (WMR) sources within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Pentagon and Interior and Energy Departments told the Obama Administration that the newly-discovered estimated 3-4 billion barrels of oil in the Gulf of Mexico would cover America's oil needs for up to eight months if there was a military attack on Iran that resulted in the bottling up of the Strait of Hormuz to oil tanker traffic, resulting in a cut-off of oil to the United States from the Persian Gulf.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So now instead of being merely incompetent, now it looks like Obama may have knowingly took a risky gamble by pushing forward on the Deepwater Horizon well as a preparation for the attack on Iran!

There’s word of a huge gas bubble that might explode and send tsunamis, hundreds of feet high in all directions. Meanwhile, the alien and satanic driven, crime syndicate nation of Israel is motoring into the Persian Gulf to attack Iran with their American bitch, done up in leather restraints and gag-reflex ping pong balls, like some zombie nation that got born in that basement in Pulp Fiction.

BP (Logo Redesign Contest) Logo Design Contest

I cant tell you how frustrated and upset we are about BP and how they are handling this oil disaster. Before this eruption of oil they had 17 violations.
It's obvious this could have been prevented.

This is the biggest environmental disaster we have ever faced in this country.

I think the (6000) creative logo designers at LogoMyWay should update the BP logo with a more suitable design and brand.

The design community and the general public will vote on the winner of the redesign of the NEW BP LOGO.

Stand with the President for a Clean-Energy Future

Webmaster's Commentary:

A friend sent me this. Apparently Obama is spamming his dwindling number of supporters to demand thy back his "clean energy policy" i.e. the carbon tax.

Now, I could go off and list all the reasons why a carbon tax is about the tax and not about the carbon or even the environment, but we have already dealt with that previously.

Suffice it to say that President Obama was in charge of the Minerals Management Service, the Federal agency that is supposed to keep and eye on the oil drilling process and failed to do so. The present disaster in the gulf is directly due to Obama's failure as an administrator, which means he is the very last person on Earth we should look to to develop any new energy policy.

You don't give a Harley to someone who just fell off their tricycle!

Why Has Barack Obama Refused To Accept International Help To Clean Up The Oil Spill In The Gulf Of Mexico?

The truth is that 13 different countries have offered to help clean up the oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

Barack Obama turned all 13 of them down.

So let’s get this straight….

We are dealing with the greatest environmental disaster in U.S. history by far, and yet we completely refuse any assistance?

What kind of insanity is that?

China's solution for elitists' crimes is execution

China executes securities trader over $9.52m fraud
By Joe Fay 8th December 2009
China takes a very harsh line on criminality, although this is the first execution carried out on an erstwhile member of the financial classes.
China carries out more executions every year than any other country, with either the gun or lethal injection used.
While murder, drug trafficking and the like attract the penalty, the state will also happily execute other classes of criminals, with both corrupt officials and businessmen liable to pay the ultimate price if convicted. Executives involved in the notorious tainted baby milk scandal were handed death sentences earlier this year.

Gulf Oil Catastrophe - Epic Lies And Deceit

Gulf Oil Catastrophe - Epic Lies And Deceit
©By Dr. Ilya Sandra Perlingieri

I write this as a catastrophe survivor. I write this knowing that with every US catastrophe, there is not one single person in charge, in ANY capacity, who will tell us the truth, who will step up to the plate, be honest, look out for our well being and safety...."We, the people" do not figure into this. What does figure into this are greed, lies, and massive deceit. A corporation's bottom line (be it Big Pharma, chemical companies, or the banksters who are looting everything we have) is profit --at all costs. We are all expendable for their bottom line. Our well being or our safety are not part of this equation.

Mystery submarine four miles off South Florida beach; flees after chased by boaters

Danoff moved closer. “It took off,” he said. Very fast, about 20 knots. The periscope sank beneath the waves, and whatever was below the surface blew its ballast, sending aloft a mighty hiccup of bubbles. After five minutes the sea lay once again undisturbed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A sub makes perfect sense in the gulf, since the boundary between oil plumes and water shows up clearly on sonar (during WW2, dumping a cloud of oil into the water was a common sub trick to evade surface sonar). So I am going to presume that the sub is there to map the extent of the oil spillage and since they are keeping the results secret, the results are not good.

Cover-up? Oil reported in Florida bay, “You can’t tell me that isn’t oil”; Officials deny BP link

An oily substance has come ashore just off of Ward Basin Road in the Blackwater Bay.

The property owner, Jim Melvin said he noticed the oil like substance and what looked to be sheen at around 10:30 Friday morning.

“It looks like tidal foam mixed with oil,” Melvin said. “It was just an awful mess.”

Melvin said a county worker had come by to collect samples of the look-a-like oil soon after he saw a glimpse of it and reported it.

BP Chief Sold Stocks Shortly Before Oil Rig Explosion, Goldman Sachs Sold Shares

Weeks before the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion killed 11 and sent anywhere from 23 to 49 million gallons of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, BP chief Tony Hayward sold about a third of his stocks, saving him 423,000 pounds according to Britain’s the Daily Telegraph, or $613,096 US dollars.

After doing so, Hayward paid off the mortgage on his mansion valued at $1,739,280. His total package was valued at $5,797,600.

According to the Daily Telegraph, “There is no suggestion that he acted improperly or had prior knowledge that the company was to face the biggest setback in its history.” Hayward disposed of his stocks on March 17, and BP stock has fallen by 30 percent since then.

BP oil spill could be nearly double original estimates, internal document shows

BP says two billion dollars spent on US oil spill

BP revealed Monday it has so far spent two billion dollars on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, after an internal BP document suggested the gusher might be spewing far faster than initially feared.

In a statement to the London Stock Exchange, the embattled British energy giant said its costs to date included ongoing efforts at containment, relief well drilling, grants to Gulf states, claims paid to affected individuals and businesses, and costs incurred by the US government.

===

One has to wonder just how much they will get away with. The amount spent thus far doesn't even begin to deal with the issue the leak has caused. And the leak is getting worse!

Internal BP document claims Gulf oil gusher jetting up to 100,000 barrels per day

US outrage mounted against BP as the oil spill reached its two-month mark and an internal BP document showed as many as 100,000 barrels of oil could be gushing daily into the Gulf of Mexico.

The document showed the energy giant's own worst-case scenario of the amount of leaking oil at possibly 20 times more than its early public estimates.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A corporation is an entity without a conscience.

Therefore, it is imperative that there are government regulations in place, coupled with agencies doing their jobs, to protect the public.

However, with BP, as with many other large corporations, the have, to large extent, "acquired" those in the halls of power in this country to the point where they don't have to be "bothered" obeying the rules, and abiding by "best safe practices", particularly in an industry fraught with potential peril, like the world of offshore drilling.

BP failed spectacularly here: but so did the US government.

Obama had well over a year to overhaul the agency responsible for overseeing BP, and he and his team did absolutely nothing to correct the egregious problems in this industry.

US outrage is mounting against BP as the oil spill reached its two-month mark and an internal BP document showed up to 100,000 barrels of oil could be gushing daily into the Gulf of Mexico.

BP said it captured about 21,040 barrels of oil on Friday, slightly lower than in previous day after its main oil-collecting vessel had to be temporarily shut down to clean a flame arrester and wait out a lighting storm. Its current collection system can collect or burn up to about 25,000 barrels a day.

Large oil spills are old news in the Niger Delta

BIG oil spills are no longer news in the Niger Delta, where the wealth underground is out of all proportion with the poverty on the surface. This once-verdant area has endured the equivalent of the Exxon Valdez spill every year for 50 years by some estimates. The oil pours out nearly every week, and some swamps are lifeless.

Perhaps no place on earth has been as battered by oil, experts say, leaving residents here astonished at the non-stop attention paid to the gusher half a world away in the Gulf of Mexico. It was only a few weeks ago, they say, that a burst pipe, belonging to Shell, was finally shut after flowing for two months. Now nothing living moves in a black-and-brown world once teeming with shrimp and crab.

Bhopal, BP and karma

Watching Hayward being mauled in front of congress on Thursday, the thoughts in the back of my mind related not so much to sympathy for the American point of view but rather for the CEO. Instead of agreeing with the generally held opinion that BP is to blame for all the problems in the Gulf of Mexico - a view that has been cemented by an apparent history of cost-cutting that led to the mishap - my feelings are now tending towards the Karmic perspective, that is, that what BP is doing to America is pretty much what American companies have done and are doing to the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, members of the news media and government are so busy filling their faces like so many pigs at the trough, they're oblivious to any consideration of the rights of individuals and the future.

Progressives Want “Direct Action” and a Disarmed Public

Progressive William Rivers Pitt has lost patience with the Obama regime and with British Petroleum (Enough of This Crap, June 15, Truthout). To break through the news blackout that BP maintains over the ongoing Gulf of Mexico oil spill, he wants a hundred thousand Americans to “just show the hell up down there and demand access.”

Pitt is correct that this “is the kind of direct action that has been missing from our national narrative, not just in the Gulf but all over.” Obama, he says correctly, is a “narcotic” for progressives. Apparently, for many progressives having a black man, or a 50% black man, in the White House is what is important, not the fact that he is a continuation of Bush/Cheney.

If a hundred thousand people marched on the Gulf Coast, “big things would happen.”

North America faces years of toxic oil rain from BP oil spill chemical dispersants

When you pour more than a million gallons of toxic chemical dispersants on top of an oil spill, it doesn’t just disappear. In this case, it moves to the atmosphere, where it will travel hundreds, if not thousands of miles from the site of the BP oil spill, in the form of toxic rain.

BP’s oil spill-fighting dispersant of choice is Corexit 9500. It has been banned in Europe for good reason. Corexit 9500 is one of the most environmentally enduring, toxic chemical dispersants ever created to battle an oil spill. Add to that the millions of gallons of oil that have been burned, releasing even more toxins into the atmosphere, and you have a recipe for something much worse than acid rain.

How the ultimate BP Gulf disaster could kill millions

Documents from several years ago indicate that the subterranean geologic formation may contain the presence of a huge methane deposit.

None other than the engineer who helped lead the team to snuff the Gulf oil fires set by Saddam Hussein to slow the advance of American troops has stated that a huge underground lake of methane gas—compressed by a pressure of 100,000 pounds per square inch (psi)—could be released by BP's drilling effort to obtain the oil deposit.

Current engineering technology cannot contain gas that is pressurized to 100,000 psi.

BP oil spill caused by 'negligence or misconduct', says drilling partner

Anadarko says BP should foot entire bill for cleanup as new estimates show spill could last for up to four more years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, we expect corporations to take stupid risks in the name of profits. The Federal Government taxed us to create and fund oversight agencies like the MMS. But the MMS failed to do its job. We now know that the Deepwater Horizon was showing clear signs of trouble in February, enough that the insiders started dumping their stock. At this point the MMS should have stepped in and said, "Let's slow down until we are sure of what we are doing here. " But the MMS was accepting gifts from the oil companies (including hookers), doing cocaine and watching porn on their taxpayer funded computers.

So yes, BP screwed up. But they were acting true to form. The failure was with the Federal Government which collects huge amounts of tax money with the mandate of taking care of the United States of America; a duty they have abandoned in their rush to take care of Wall Street, cronies, and of course, Israel.

Who Died And Made BP The King Of The Gulf Of Mexico?
Michael Snyder | Jun. 18, 2010, 8:12 AM |
In recent weeks, BP has almost seemed more interested in keeping the American people away from the oil spill than in actually cleaning it up.
Journalists are being pushed around and denied access, disaster workers are being intimidated and abused and now BP has even go so far as to hire an army of private mercenaries to enforce their will along the Gulf coast. Are we suddenly living in occupied Iraq? How in the world did a foreign oil company get the right to start pointing guns at the American people? The last time I checked, BP did not own the Gulf of Mexico and did not have the right to tell the American people where they can and cannot go.

$7-a-gallon gas?

President Obama has a solution to the Gulf oil spill: $7-a-gallon gas.

That's a Harvard University study's estimate of the per-gallon price of the president's global-warming agenda. And Obama made clear this week that this agenda is a part of his plan for addressing the Gulf mess.

So what does global-warming legislation have to do with the oil spill?

Good question, because such measures wouldn't do a thing to clean up the oil or fix the problems that led to the leak.

The Big Question: Should Barton step down over BP apology?

Barton was forced to apologize but is clearly unapologetic in his defense of the oil industry, from which he has collected more than $1 million in the last two decades. He didn't make a gaffe, or confuse anyone with his statement and strong views -- he apologized to BP, called the president's request a "shakedown" and said the matter was a "tragedy."

Gulf oil full of methane, adding new concerns

It is an overlooked danger in the oil spill crisis: The crude gushing from the well contains vast amounts of natural gas that could pose a serious threat to the Gulf of Mexico's fragile ecosystem.

The oil emanating from the seafloor contains about 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits, said John Kessler, a Texas A&M University oceanographer who is studying the impact of methane from the spill.

That means huge quantities of methane have entered the Gulf, scientists say, potentially suffocating marine life and creating "dead zones" where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.

Officials Worried About The Gulf Cleanup Materials Sent To Their Landfills

They have good reason to worry. Even though BP claims otherwise, we just don't know for sure and you shouldn't just dump it anywhere (although I suspect they will, anyway):

About 35,000 bags — or 250 tons — of oily trash have been carted away from this beach, said Lt. Patrick Hanley of the Coast Guard, who is stationed at Port Fourchon. And as of Monday, more than 175,000 gallons of liquid waste — a combination of oil and water — had been sent to landfills, as had 11,276 cubic yards of solid waste, said Petty Officer Gail Dale, also of the Coast Guard, who works with at the command center in Houma.

Reports indicate Obama is to use the Oil Spill Disaster to renew a push for Cap & Trade. This is made more suspicious by his apparent delay and even obstruction of solutions:

Remember when the Space Shuttle Challenger had frozen O-Rings and management said, "We have to launch; we're on a tight schedule"?

Didn't work out then.

Didn't work out now.
