Saudi-backed Yemeni forces capture Hodeidah airport

Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces have captured the airport at Hodeidah and have started preparations for the more complex task of capturing the city and its port nine miles (15km) to the north. The port is critical to the supply of aid to the rest of the famine-struck country.

Confirmation that the airport on the southern outskirts of the city had been seized after three days of fighting came from both TV pictures and eyewitness accounts. At least 40 Houthi fighters who had held the airport were killed, but most retreated into the city, preparing to fight a potentially intense street-by-street campaign that could endanger tens of thousands of civilians.

As Tensions Rise, Greeks See Sudden 90% Surge In 'Asylum-Seekers' Across Land Border With Turkey

In the last few months, tensions between two NATO member states have escalated dramatically - Turkey has threatened to invade Greek islands, Greece has responded, Turkey has violated Greek airspace 100s of times, and Greeks now see Turkey as the greatest threat to their existence.

And now, in the first five months of 2018, KeepTalkingGreece.com reports that Greece has been Europe’s top entry point for refugees and migrants. According to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontext, over 19,800 people entered Greece during January – May 2018. At the same time, the land border crossing from Turkey to Greece increased by 90 percent. The majority of these people were Syrians and Iraqis.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In light of the fact that both countries are NATO members, it would seem that the guy for the job here would be none other than NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, if he really wants NATO to get its MOJO back.

Stop the squabbling here, get Turkey to behave itself, and not ratchet up international tensions any more than they already are.

EU Backs Effort To Prosecute Israeli Military Officials For Human Rights Violations

The European Union is funding a project to prosecute Israel Defence Forces (IDF) officers for committing violations against Palestinian civilians, according to Israel Hayom, which quotes a local human rights organisation.

The pro-Israel group NGO Monitor analyses the funding and performance of non-governmental organisations which keep an eye on violations committed by the IDF.

“Following the request of Israeli human rights organisations,” it reported, “the European Union has begun funding a project for the prosecution of Israeli military staff involved in the violation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Such prosecutions will be symbolic only; Israel will never allow their IDF members to be extradited for trial, and will continue in defending their worst horrendous behaviour with the excuse: "The Palestians MADE them do it; particularly that Palestinian baby who died of tear gas inhallation at a protest!!"

Israel’s invasion of the Arab capitals

An Israeli delegation will visit the Kingdom of Bahrain on Sunday, adding a new link to the chain of Arab normalisation with Israel. This is occurring at a time when Arab countries are being isolated from their national surroundings and depth, including the Palestinian Authority, which is suffering from a silent boycott as the PA President is in undeclared “isolation” because he rejects the “deal of the century”.

The delegation will participate in the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting. It is both strange to see, and unusual, that Israel’s participation in the meeting was announced in a local pro-government newspaper, Akhbar Al Khaleej. The newspaper quoted a Bahraini official in its reporting of this information.

Saudi-led Coalition Enters Main Airport Compound of Yemen's Hodeidah

Saudi-led coalition forces stormed the airport after fierce battles broke out between coalition forces and Houthi militants who hold the main port city of Hodeidah, a local resident said.

"They have stormed the airport," said one Yemeni military source.

The Saudi-led coalition's aircraft carried out airstrikes, targeting Houthi fighters at the airport in Yemen's main port city of Hodeidah on June 18 in response to a missile targeting the southwestern Saudi city of Jizan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Expect a Saudi-generated bloodbath here, with utterly no quarter given, and no chance for infants, children, women, or the medically fragile elderly to survive.

And please remember; the US government is complicit in Saudi war crimes in Yemen, done in your name, and with your tax dollars.

And from antiwar.com, datelined yesterday, we have the following story:

UAE demands unconditional rebel pullout from rebel portThe article goes on to state:

"There are also an estimated 250,000 civilians left in Hodeidah. With airstrikes against the city on the rise, officials for the attacking forces say that only withdrawing from the city can “save the population.”

The massacre of citizens in Hodeidah... is coming; these conditions placed on the rebels by the UAE just telegraphed it with these demands.

YEMEN’S NAVY CAPTURES FRENCH VESSEL LADEN WITH FOREIGN MERCENARIES

Yemen’s Navy, loyal to the Houthi government, captured a French naval vessel, the M/Y Jehol ll, off of the coast of Hodeidah on Saturday, according to statements made by senior military officials to MintPress News. The vessel, which was carrying foreign fighters, was engaged in a military landing operation near the port, according to Houthi officials, who gave no further details.

Mohammed al-Houthi, leader of the Houthi movement, tweeted:

“Thanks to the Yemeni Coast Guard in Hodeida, a French or American boat was seized.”

He confirmed in a later tweet that a French naval vessel named the M/Y Jehol ll was captured by Yemen’s Coast Guard near Hodeidah.

UAE collaboration with Israel dates back to 1990s

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and officials from the United Arab Emirates secretly met in Cyprus to discuss the Iran nuclear agreement right before Donald Trump took office as US president, according to a report in The New Yorker.

The Barack Obama administration was not aware of the meeting. US intelligence agencies learned of it as well as of phone calls between senior UAE and Israeli leaders toward the end of Obama’s second term.

This meeting marked a strengthening of the covert relationship between Israel and some Gulf Arab states that is likely to come at the expense of Palestinians. Netanyahu hopes these Arab states will help press Palestinians to accept a peace deal tailor-made to Israel’s demands.

BATTLE FOR AL-HUDAYDAH CAN BECOME TURNING POINT IN YEMEN WAR

The Saudi-led coalition and its proxies are developing their military operation to capture the western Yemeni port city of al-Hudaydah from the Houthis.

This very advance started on June 13 after a series of failed attempts of the coalition-led forces to reach the city along the western Yemeni coast. Over 25,000 of coalition-backed fighters and at least 1,500 UAE troops, backed by a large number of military equipment, including battle tanks, and the Saudi Air Force and Special Operations Forces are involved in the operation.

According to French daily Le Figaro, troops of the French Special Operations Forces are operating alongside UAE troops.

The goal of the first stage of the operation is to isolate the city from the rest of the Houthi-held area. The coalition has also established a naval blockade of the city. However, it failed to carry out a landing operation in the area on June 13 because the Houthis responded with anti-ship missile strikes.

Saudis, U.S. Ignore Famine Warning in Besieged Yemen

Ignoring international aid groups’ warnings that an attack on the Yemeni city of Hodeida, which is held by Houthi rebels, could exacerbate hunger in an impoverished and war-torn nation already on the brink of famine, Saudi-led U.S.-backed coalition forces continued a sweeping assault on the Red Sea port city Saturday, reportedly seizing control of an airport.

Since the fighting started earlier this week, thousands of Hodeida’s 600,000 civilians have evacuated and hundreds of people have been killed. The port city is the main conduit through which about 70 percent of international aid reaches Yemenis, many of whom are battling starvation and outbreaks of infectious diseases such as cholera.

The Norwegian Refugee Council’s office in Yemen told Reuters that “humanitarian agencies cannot currently access areas south of the city where people are most likely to have been injured, affected, and displaced, leaving us without a clear picture of needs.”

THE U.S. IS EXACERBATING THE WORLD’S WORST HUMANITARIAN CRISIS BY OUTSOURCING ITS YEMEN POLICY

The Intercept interviewed more than a dozen former White House and State Department officials, humanitarian leaders, and Yemen experts, many of whom characterized the offensive as a major failure by the U.S. to restrain its coalition partners, who are largely dependent on American weapons, intelligence, and logistical support. Those sources said the attack was a sign that the U.S. is allowing allies like Saudi Arabia and the UAE to drive American policy decisions in Yemen.

Saudi Warplanes Strike Airport in Yemen’s Hodeidah

While Saudi and Emirati-led forces managed to take the entrance to the Hodeidah airport in northern Yemen, they’ve so far made little progress in taking heavily fortified buildings inside. This has seen Saudi forces resorting to heavy airstrikes on the area, with locals reporting as many as 20 missile strikes in the area.

Hodeidah is the main port for humanitarian aid entering war-torn Yemen, responsible for feeding 8.4 million people. Saudi-led forces began the invasion of the city last week, but have so far only taken over the outskirts, pounding the city itself with jets and battleships.

In Yemen's Hudaida, 'the sound of warplanes never ceases'

As a Saudi and Emirati-led coalition continues launching air raids in the Yemeni port city of Hudaida, nearly 4,500 families have fled their homes in the front line districts amid rising fears of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Five days into the offensive, residents inside Houthi-held Hudaida pondered an uncertain future as thousands of other civilians were forced to abandon their towns and villages on the city's southern outskirts due to the escalating bombardment.

UN says nearly 5,000 families displaced in Yemen’s Hudaydah

The United Nations says nearly 5,000 families have been displaced in Yemen’s western province of Hudaydah, whose capital port city has been under unprecedented attacks by a Saudi-led military coalition and militia loyal to the impoverished country’s former government since June 13.

In a statement released on Sunday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said 4,458 households have been displaced from their homes in Hudaydah since June 1.

It added that at least 36 displaced families had already lost their entire livelihood as their farms were damaged in airstrikes by Saudi-led coalition earlier this month.

'As crimes pile up, they become invisible': Western complicity in Saudi Arabia's dirty war in Yemen

The complicity of Western governments in the ocean of suffering being wrought in Yemen exposes them as agents of Saudi brutality.

After three years of relentless conflict, it has been estimated that out of a population of 27.4 million, 22.2 million people in Yemen are in need of humanitarian assistance, 17 million are food insecure, 14.8 million lack basic healthcare, 4.5 million children are suffering malnourishment, while 2.9 million people are internally displaced. As for dead and injured, the toll stands at almost 10,000 and 50,000 respectively.

As a result of the conflict, the country is also facing the "largest documented cholera epidemic of modern times." And this epidemic can only have been intensified by the Saudi bombing of a cholera treatment center in the west of the country, causing the French NGO Médecins Sans Frontières to halt their work at the facility.

The Iraq War: In the beginning was the lie

What we do know for sure is that the rationale for going to war was based on lies ... US Secretary of State Colin Powell giving his speech to the UN Security Council on February 5, 2003. Six weeks before the war began, Powell spent 76 minutes influencing international public opinion in favor of war. The core of his speech was that Saddam Hussein possessed biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction, that his regime was supporting international terrorism, and that it aimed to build nuclear weapons ... We remember Powell's speech primarily because all of these claims turned out to be false. In 2005 Powell himself described the speech as a lasting "blot" on his career.

he Truth about Oil and the Iraq War, 15 Years Later

The more I learned the more I realized that there was an oil agenda and I was just an unknowing participant. The oil agenda I discovered and experienced was to supply Iraq oil to Israel. The players were the neoconservatives in the Bush Administration, their favorite Iraqi - Dr Ahmed Chalabi and the Israeli government. One of the motives was because Israel was paying a huge premium for its oil imports and this premium had just started in the late1990s. The agenda called for the reopening of the old Kirkuk to Haifa pipeline and its significant expansion. When this pipeline plan became unattainable in the second half of 2003 then Chalabi took other actions to get inexpensive Iraqi oil to Israel.

War of Aggression: The Saudi & UAE Slaughter in Yemen isn’t a Proxy Conflict with Iran

Alongside their throttlehold over which reporters can visit what parts of Yemen, and thus what story they can tell, Saudi and Emirati investments in public relations, lobbying, think-tanks, and political consultants are shaping the narrative about their war there. Headline writers, pundits, Wikipedia, news correspondents, and even some so-called experts frame the asymmetric conflict as a “proxy war.” Sunnis nations led by Saudi Arabia are battling Shi`a Iran and its regional proxies, the story goes; the world’s worst man-made humanitarian disaster thus appears as un-named collateral damage.

US Threatens ‘Measures’ Against Syria for Offensive in Southwest

With the Syrian government saying that any more failures to take back the country’s southwest diplomatically would lead them to launch an offensive, the US State Department is threatening “firm and appropriate measures” to punish Syria for any such attempt.

Syria has been expected to launch such an offensive for awhile. Russia negotiated with Israel to get them to agree to keep out of the fighting, in return for Russia urging Iran and Hezbollah to remain out of the border region. The assumption has been for some time this cleared room for the push.

US officials, however, say that Syria would be violating the previous de-escalation deal made between the US, Russia, and Turkey, as some of the offensive would take place in that area. Other de-escalation zones have effectively been erased by government gains, or the wiping out of certain rebels by others.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that this alleged "de-escalation deal", for some bizzare reason, does not seem to involve the sovereign state of Syria; only Russia, Turkey, and the US appear to be named.

But we all understand the simple translation of these Washingtonese statements; the US government is looking for any excuse with which to justify a full-scale invasion of Syria, and to affect regime change in Damascus.

However, there is a 600 lb gorilla, draped across the Bosendorfer grand in the living room here, and that is is Russia; the possibility of a misunderstanding, leading to a "hot confrontation" between Russia and the US military in Syria, excalates exponentially, every day the US forces stay on Syrian soil.

US senators urge Pentagon to fully disclose its role in Saudi-led war in Yemen

Three US senators have called on the Pentagon to immediately reveal the extent of US military support to the Saudi-led Arab coalition that launched an attack on Hodeidah, a key port city and last humanitarian lifeline in Yemen.
“We call on you to immediately disclose the full extent of the US military role in the Saudi-led war against Yemen’s Houthis, including the use of special operations forces; disclose any role that the Pentagon is currently performing, has been asked to perform, or is considering performing regarding an attack on the port of Hodeida,” says the letter sent to Defense Secretary James Mattis on Friday, and signed by Senators Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut)

Webmaster's Commentary:

This kind of disclosure from Sec Def Mattis... will only happen when pigs discover that they are aerodynamic.

These three Senators need to understand that both the US and UK military industrial complex are making a killing, literally and figuratively, from the arms sales to the Saudi government for its genocide in Yemen, so no public declaration opposing this impending assault will ever happen from either government.

Are they not aware that the UN rejected an immediate cease fire in Yemen yesterday, and that move was orchestrated by the US and UK?!?

UN rejects plan for an Immediate ceasefire in Yemen

Both countries want to see the war move forward, and to see as many Yemeni people as possible murdered, through direct military assault; disease; and malnutrition; after all, do these Senators not understand just how "swell" war is for business?!?

UN REJECTS PLAN FOR IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE IN YEMEN PORT

A Swedish call at the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire in the Yemen port of Hodeidah was derailed during a closed session Friday. The US and Britain both expressed opposition to the measure, designed to prevent Saudi-led forces attacking a port responsible for feeding 8.4 million civilians.

Britain insisted on the meeting being a closed session, meaning specific comments during the hearing, and the reiteration from UN officials of the humanitarian crisis threatening to kill millions, would not be done for the public to see.

US officials did not publicly comment on why they’re opposed to the ceasefire, but likely is a reflection of the Saudis really wanting to attack the city. British Ambassador Karen Pierce said their opposition was made purely based on “the British national interest.”

It’s not clear exactly how preventing food being delivered to Yemeni civilians is in the British national interest.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let the assassinations, and deaths from starvation and disease continue!!- Official UN Souse.

By this action, the UN has just proved itself irrelevant, useless, and impotent, against the forces of US and Saudi war and destruction, and has become a sponsor of genocide and war crimes in Yemen. Those member countries of the UN need to just pack it in, declare its uselessness, and go home, now.

The agenda for the US and UK, is to continue to sell their weapons of mass destruction to the Saudis, with which they are blowing up schools, medical centers, as they did with the hit on the cholera center in Yemen, and practicing infanticide, and murder against women, and the medically fragile elderly.

The UN has just given the green light to genocide against the Yemeni people; and to be very frank about it, I, for one, hate to have to be a citizen of a country which enables such genocide and war crimes.

There are countries on this planet which don't stoop to such abominable actions, but unfortunately, Mike and I are too broke, and too old, to immigrate to those countries.

Saudi Arabia Tried to Blame Doctors Without Borders for Bombing Yemen Cholera Treatment Center

Early on June 13, the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Washington, DC tweeted a photo of a fax from MSF’s administrator of communication and liaison in Djibouti. This document is dated June 11, and the Saudi embassy claimed it showed MSF “clearly admit that the unfortunate facility incident was due to their failure to update their coordinates per standard procedures.”

MSF told me this claim is false. The organization clarified that it gave the Saudi coalition the GPS coordinates for its cholera treatment center at least 12 times in writing, and the coalition “acknowledged receipt of these coordinates in writing at least nine times.”

Understanding Jewish Power

It did not take much to connect the dots and realize that Israel, far from being a friend and ally, was the principal catalyst for the many missteps that the United States has made in the Middle East. U.S. policy in the region was being deliberately shaped around Israeli concerns by American Jews ensconced in the Pentagon and White House who certainly knew exactly what they were doing. No one should blame the Israelis for acting in their own self-interest, but every loyal American should blame the Libbys, Feiths and Wolfowitzes for their willingness to place Israeli interests ahead of those of their own country.

YEMENI WAR REPORT – JUNE 14, 2018: BATTLE FOR HUDAYDAH

On January 13, the Saudi-led coalition launched a new operation to capture the Yemeni port city of Hudaydah from the Houthis.

“Liberation of the port is the beginning of the fall of the Houthi militias. It will secure navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and cut off the hands of Iran,” the Saudi-backed government of Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi said in a statement.

The ground operation is reportedly supported by the air and naval forces of the Saudi-led coalition. Pro-Saudi and pro-UAE sources claim that the attack is ongoing from multiple directions. However, according to local sources, the advance is mainly taking place south of Hudaydah, near the airport.

A Saudi-led coalition warship was possibly sunk and 250 Houthi fighters were reportedly killed in assault on Yemeni city

The Saudi-led coalition launched a major assault on Yemen's port city of Hodeidah on Wednesday, killing 250 Iranian-backed Houthi fighters, according to UPI.

The coalition's initial assault on Hodeidah, which the UN has warned could end up killing 250,000 civilians and exacerbate the already terrible humanitarian condition, included several airstrikes and also led to the capture of 140 Houthi fighters, UPI reported.

The Houthis at the same time claimed to have hit and sunk a coalition warship with two missiles, according to Jane's 360. The Saudis and the United Arab Emirates — the two major actors in the coalition — have not commented on the claim.

Almasirah Live, a Houthi media outlet, has broadcasted purported footage of the coalition ship on fire:

'CATASTROPHIC' RISK OF DEATH FOR 300,000 YEMENI CHILDREN TRAPPED BY ATTACK

Some 300,000 children risk death, injury and starvation as they are trapped in Yemen's main port city which is under assault from Saudi-led Arab states, aid groups said on Wednesday.

The biggest battle in a three-year war, which has already created the world's biggest humanitarian crisis, centers on Hodeidah, the main route for food and aid to reach most Yemenis, 8.4 million of whom are on the verge of famine.

US to Deepen Military Role in Yemen War, Joining Hodeidah Attack: Officials claim US involvement will reduce civilian deaths

After a handful of statements last week suggesting the US was opposing the planned attack on the vital Yemeni aid port of Hodeidah, officials are now indicating that the US has reversed again, and will actually be participating in the attack.

Pentagon officials say they intend to provide growing amounts of military intelligence, including target lists, for the Saudi-led invasion force in Yemen. They argue that this is going to ultimately reduce the civilian death toll of the attack on the port.

Yet US targeting aid in the past has done little to keep the Saudi strikes on Yemen from regularly killing large numbers of civilians. Even beyond this, the fall of Hodeidah threatens to spark a famine that would kill hundreds of thousands if not millions of others.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This uptick in US military involvement in Yemen is not for reducing, or minimizing civilian casualties; it is about making those civilian casualty numbers so staggeringly large, and the resultant carnage from disease, coupled with further starvation, so intense, to paraphrase the general in the movie "Avatar", that it will burn a hole in their collective memories so deep, that the Houthis will never, ever even think about rebelling against their soon to be Saudi masters, ever again.

With active US military support on the ground, the Saudi Military are now in their final throes of their genocide against the Yemeni people, and the carnage will be horrifically intense for just the reasons I have outlined above.

When the hell did the US government and military become "War Crimes R Us"?!?!? This is an awful betrayal of the trust of the American people, and reminds us, at this time as a country, that we are absolutely on the wrong side of history here, and geopolitcally, there are always consequences down the road for these kinds of actions.

Battle for Hodeidah: Biggest assault of Yemen’s three-year-war begins, putting millions at risk

The Arab coalition battling Houthi rebels in Yemen has begun an anticipated assault on the port city of Hodeidah, an offensive which diplomatic and humanitarian sources warn could put millions of people in danger.

Residents in the city of 600,000 people said that shelling of Iran-backed Houthi positions in the southern suburbs of Seham and Qazabah began around dawn on Wednesday, and Saudi and UAE ships are now positioned just south of the city. Around 2,000 Emirati and Yemeni government-allied troops are also approaching from the west, in what appears to be a pincer movement attack.

Saudi-owned news channels and later state media citing military sources announced the battle had begun shortly after daybreak, a development later acknowledged by Houthi-run Al Masirah news.

US-Backed Coalition Bombs Yemen’s New Cholera Treatment Center, After Unleashing World’s Largest Outbreak

A military coalition formally led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and supported by the United States and Britain, bombed a newly constructed cholera treatment in Yemen on Monday, June 11.

This attack comes after Yemen, the poorest country in the Middle East, suffered through the worst cholera outbreak in recorded history, with more than 1 million cases reported in 2017 alone.

The cholera treatment center was operated by the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (known in French as Médecins Sans Frontières, or MSF). It was located in Yemen’s northwestern Hajjah Governorate, an area that has been heavily bombarded by Saudi Arabia for more than 3 years.

MSF said in a statement that the cholera treatment center had markings on the roof that clearly identified it as a healthcare facility. It added that the center has been destroyed and is now completely non-functional.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Doesn't this just make you feel prouder than heck to be an American right now, with this bombing of a cholera treatment center in Yemen, in which the US military has participated?!? Remember; these bombings are done in your names, and with your tax dollars.

They Want to Cut the Main Vein of Yemen. US Supported Naval Blockade, Widespread Famine

The Saudi-led coalition is desperate to be able to occupy Hodiedah province, where the main port of Yemen is located, from which all the essentials of life enter Yemen. The blockade has been in force for more than three years, for weakening the Yemeni front.

Presently, 90 percent of food and medicines come to Yemen via Hodiedah, making the port vital lifeline to Sana’a with some other ports under control of occupying forces. Since Saudi Arabia waged a war against Yemen on 27 March 2017, Saudis have take actions to wrest the major port from Ansar Allah forces. Air raids on the area’s infrastructure and Ansarullah positions is common during the three years of war.

UN, Red Cross Evacuate Staff From Yemen Port City Ahead Of "Imminent" US-Saudi Coalition Assault

The New York Times reports that the United Nations is pulling its staff from the besieged Yemeni port city of Al Hudaydah as a massive assault on the country's only major humanitarian lifeline appears imminent.

UN staff have played a key role in delivering foreign aid through what is now one of the besieged country's only humanitarian access points to the outside world, through which 80% of all humanitarian aid flows.

The NYT details that the UN evacuation comes after "member countries were told that an attack by forces led by the United Arab Emirates was imminent, according to two diplomats briefed on the matter."

Webmaster's Commentary:

This attack will mean the nail in the coffin for Houthi resistance in Yemen; let the US-enabled, Saudi slaughter of innocent Yemeni people continue!!

Forgive my sarcasm here, but I wish that both Mike and I were young enough, and prosperous enough, to imigrate to a country which does not commit, or enable, war crimes; unfortunately, that is not going to happen for us.

We cannot morally accept, or support, the war crimes done by this country around the world, and are ashamed of a government which is no longer responding to the needs and concerns of We the People; truth be told, we are rapidly approaching a time for this country, where the center cannot hold.

And we have a companion piece on this, datelined yesterday, from moonoveralabama.com:

They are surrounded by Saudi and U.A.E. forces and their mercenaries. There is little agriculture. The only supply line from the outside world will soon be cut off. The people will starve."

MATTIS: WITHDRAWING US TROOPS FROM SYRIA WOULD BE A "STRATEGIC BLUNDER"

Speaking at NATO headquarters on Friday, Secretary of Defense James Mattis reiterated his opposition to the idea of withdrawing US troops from Syria. He said any withdrawal before progress was made would be a “strategic blunder.”

Mattis’ position reflects those of a lot of top US cabinet officials, who have resisted President Trump’s talk of a quick withdrawal. He argues that the UN peace plan necessitates an ongoing US military presence.

On the one hand, Mattis suggests leaving too soon could give “the terrorists the opportunity to recover.” On the other hand, he also says that leaving would be exploited by the Assad government and its supporters.

This again sets out the US position that the UN plan necessitates regime change in Syria, something other supporters say is not the case. It also suggests a more or less permanent US presence in Syria, since there is virtually no chance the US will impose a favorable outcome.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The absolute, killer, irony here, is that according to Russian Major-General Igor Konashenkov, in a conversation with reporters today, made the following statement:

All remaining resistence zones in Syria, are US-controlled areas.

Let's wrap our heads for a moment around these two statements, and compare what Sec Def Mattis has stated with what Major-General Konashenkov has stated.

It is obvious that they cannot both be correct. I think, knowing what I know about US geopolitics, that Mattis is trying to find some logic-defying way of defending the military US presence in Syria, which he absolutely understands, in his heart of hearts, is not based on any potential good for the Syrian people; remember, the US has been the sponsor of the rebels in Syria, and has trained and funded and equipped jihadist rebels here.

Pentagon wasted $500 million on training rebels in Syria.

The US and Israeli foreign policy goals have been, and will continue to be, both the balkanization of Syria, to make it easier to control, and effect regime change in Damascus, however that can be made to happen.

ALL REMAINING ISIS RESISTANCE ZONES IN SYRIA ARE IN US-CONTROLLED AREAS – RUSSIAN MOD

Islamic State still keeps its presence in Syria, but only in US-controlled areas while those liberated by Syrian government forces areas are slowly recovering after terrorists’ defeat, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“All the remaining pockets of resistance of ISIS terrorists in Syria are only in areas controlled by the United States,” Major-General Igor Konashenkov, a defense ministry spokesman, said on Saturday.

Earlier, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in a bold statement that pulling out of the Arab Republic “must avoid leaving a vacuum in Syria that can be exploited by the Assad regime or its supporters,” in apparent reference to Iran and Russia.

Russia has been fighting terrorists in the country on the invitation of the Syrian government, while the US presence there has been deemed aggressive by Damascus.

Saudi's potential attack on Yemen's port of Hudaydah may kill 250,000,UN says

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Yemen has warned that a military assault on the vital Yemeni port city of Hudaydah by the Saudi regime and its coalition partners may kill 250,000 people.

“A military attack or siege on Hudaydah will impact hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians,” said Lise Grande in a statement released on Friday, pointing to Saudi Arabia’s long-standing threat to launch an attack on Yemen’s only entry gate for much needed basic supplies and humanitarian aid.

“In a prolonged worst case, we fear that as many as 250,000 people may lose everything, even their lives,” added the UN official.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Given the already horrific state of affairs in Yemen, courtesy of the US-government enabled Saudi invasion and occupation, I believe that Ms. Grande may be understating the numbers very intensely.

SYRIA NOT ‘IMMUNE’, ISRAEL WILL DESTROY ASSAD’S FORCES IF ATTACKED, SAYS NETANYAHU

Israel will “destroy” any Syrian forces that attempt an attack against Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned. He also cautioned President Assad against inviting Iranian troops into Syria.

“Now the war is nearly over he invites Iran in? He is no longer immune. If he fires, we'll destroy his forces,” Netanyahu said in London on Thursday.

In May, Israel launched several missiles at what it claimed were Iranian military targets inside Syria. Tel Aviv is believed to be responsible for numerous airstrikes on Syrian territory, but the Israeli military rarely comments on such cases.

Last month Netanyahu warned that Israel considers all Iranian forces inside Syria – not just troops near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights – as targets.

“We will continue to act against [Iran’s] intention to establish a military presence in Syria opposite us, not just opposite the Golan Heights but anywhere in Syria,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks as though Netanyahu is getting ready to create a false flag operation, to be blamed against both Syria, and Iran, as the "justification" for an attack against both countries, with the US military steppng in closely thereafter/

But I think, if this is what he is planning, he and his cabinet need think, to very seriously, about just what Russia will do, if he does this.

Russia's military prowess has already been very much proven in the Syrian theatre of war, and has historically sworn to defend Iran, should it get attacked militarily.

Today it’s the Golan Heights, tomorrow it will be Medina

If the Europeans thought this was as bad as it could get they were mistaken. This week they would have to pretend it’s business as usual and welcome the Israeli prime minister. He is on a charm offensive to convince European leaders why they should also withdraw from the JCPA.

But this is not all, there will be other demands. In recent days, Israeli politicians have been stepping up pressure on the Trump administration to recognise Israel’s “sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

As the saying goes, there is no smoke without fire. The flurry of diplomatic activity in Tehran, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Damascus and Amman all suggest that something is amiss. Although the details still remain secret, the reality is that Israel wants firm guarantees that there will be no Iranian presence in south Syria. So Russia’s Vladimir Putin has provided the assurance that only Syrian troops will be stationed there and more importantly, there will be no Syrian belligerency or irredentism.

Houthis in Talks to Cede Yemen Aid Port to UN

As Saudi-backed Yemeni forces continue to approach the key port city of Hodeidah, the lone source of food for millions of people in the rebel-held north, there are reportedly talks ongoing at the UN about avoiding the attack.

Martin Griffiths, the UN mediator for Yemen, says that there are talks ongoing with the rebel Houthis to place the port city directly under UN supervision. This would take the city off the battlefield, but leave it available to be used to import food and medical aid.

Since the Houthis are losing ground around the city, this may be their best bet for avoiding the mass starvation that would result from Hodeidah falling outright to the pro-Saudi forces. Other ports are only used to bring in supplies to the government-held south.

Webmaster's Commentary:

this wiould be a terrific thought; but unfortunately, the UN Security Council, which is bought and paid for by the US government, will never allow this to happen.

Once the port is overtaken, expect to see much more starvation, and death by disease in Yemen, because these war crimes are part and parcel of the US/ Saudi "Master Plan" for the country, when it ultimately gets completely overtaken by US/Saudi forces.

The introduction of starvation and disease, is one of the oldest tactics in the book, through which foreign governments wield their power against conquered nations.

According to the paper, “two things have happened in Jordan in recent days, the first was exempting Amman from an agreement between the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt on transferring the US embassy to Jerusalem, and the second is the protests in major cities against increasing oil and electricity prices and the new income tax project.

ISRAEL IS NOW HELPING SAUDI ARABIA DEVELOP NUCLEAR WEAPONS

The Israeli government has begun selling the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia information on how to develop nuclear weapons, according to a senior official at the Israeli military organization iHLS (Israel’s Homeland Security). In the Middle East, Putin Has a Lot to Thank Trump For

Vladimir Putin will have paid very close attention to the location of the Syrian artillery battery where four Russian soldiers lost their lives at the weekend. The desert around Deir ez-Zour remains a dangerous place – politically as well as physically – in which the Americans and Russians play an extremely risky game of war.

Putin still suspects the Americans helped the artillery guidance of a mortar battery which killed the commander of the Russian Far East 5th Army in Deir ez-Zour, lieutenant general Valery Asapov, less than a year ago. Was the mortar fired by pro-American Kurdish fighters? Or by Isis? The Russians say that Isis mobile attackers stormed the Syrian artillery position this weekend at night – the Islamists’ normal routine, streaming out of the desert wadis in suicide trucks and motorcycles – even though the little Syrian forts, hillocks of sand and cement strewn across the vast sand plateaus, are supposed to be invulnerable.

TOMMY ROBINSON: AN UNWELCOME DEVELOPMENT BEING GROOMED BY AN INCREASINGLY TOTALITARIAN STATE

In the same way – although I do see him more as a rabble-rouser than a racist fanatic – the bizarre denialism of the British Establishment in relation to the nature of Jihadist violence and cultural Islamic rape has helped build the high profile of former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson.

In case you didn’t know, by the way, Tommy Robinson is not his real name. He was born Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, and he has also had two other aliases, Andrew McMaster and Paul Harris. His family are themselves immigrants – from Eire.

The British Left denies the dysfunctionality of Islamic culture because the vast majority of such immigrants vote Labour. The Conservative Government denies the same thing because it does not wish to lose the disgusting arms trade it has with the unspeakably cruel Saudi royal family.

IRAN LISTS 7 CONDITIONS TO REMAIN IN NUCLEAR DEAL

In his first statement since Pompeo's Wednesday speech, Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei set 7 conditions for the European nations if they want Tehran to remain in the agreement.

Khamenei laid out the full list on Twitter on Trump's favorite social media network, remainder of continued on twitter where in a brief tweetstorm, he unveiled the following demands of Europe:

Over the course of 2 years, US violated #JCPOA, several times, while the Europeans remained silent. These 3 European countries should prove that they won’t be as dishonest & untrustworthy as they were during nuclear talks in 2004-2005. Europe needs to compensate for it:
The US has violated Resolution 2231. Europe must issue a resolution against US’s violation [of it].
Europe must guarantee it will not raise the issue of the Islamic Republic's missiles and regional affairs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation; Europe will not be allowed to acceed to Iran's demands by the US government, meaning that the Iranians will shortly go back to uranium enrichment, which will then be used as the "justification" for a war against it by the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

But this will not happen until Israel uncorks in Lebanon against Hezbullah, and accomplishes "regime change" there, to achieve a more "Israeli-centric" government in Beirut.

So we have, maybe, a couple of months or more, before that happens, and then, the major world war against Iran happens. Look at the attack against Lebanon to come either right before, or right after, the High Holy days in Israel, Rosh Hashana, and Yom Kippur, which are celebrated in September of this year.

June 1st is already upon us week; So watch for 3 months of intense demonisation of Lebanon; Iran, and Russia in the next three months, leading up to an Israeli first strike on Lebanon.

But the big issue in all of this, with Russia having historically claimed that it will defend Iran should it be attacked militarily, is, when Iran is attacked, what will Russia's Putin actually be willing to do to defend it?!?

And lastly, here is a link to Ynetnews.com, with an article which is more than a little unsettling:

TRUMP’S WAR AGAINST IRAN

Israel launched waves of air attacks and ground shelling on a score of alleged Iranian military positions in Syria this week. Was this a big step forward in the plan by Israel's leader Benjamin Netanyahu and his ally Donald Trump to provoke a major war with Iran? It certainly looks so ... Many of the same war party crowd that engineered the 2003 US invasion of Iraq are now running the Trump administration. Their goal is to cripple Iran and leave the Mideast to joint Saudi-Egyptian-Israeli control. Recall President George W. Bush's assertion that once he had crushed Iraq the next targets of US military intervention would be Lebanon, Syria, Iran and then Pakistan. Invading Iran would not be easy.
