Hurricane Lane scoots closer to Oahu, while ‘catastrophic flooding’ hits Hawaii’s Big Island

The Category 2 hurricane, packing winds of 110 mph, is positioned about 180 miles southwest of Honolulu and is crawling to the north around 5 mph. The peak winds are on a down trend which is expected to continue. Rain – more than wind – has proven to be the storm’s greatest menace.
