One killed in Gaza by Egypt border guards: Sources

At least one Palestinian has been killed in the frontier town of Rafah in the besieged Gaza Strip by Egyptian soldiers firing from across the border, sources say.

"A Palestinian citizen, aged 23, was killed by Egyptian army fire on the Egyptian-Palestinian border and the security agencies are investigating the incident to find out the motives," Gaza's Interior Ministry spokesman Iyad al-Bazm said in a message on his Facebook page on Friday.

The Egyptian forces shot the unnamed man "in the back and the bullet settled in the heart. He died on the spot," Gaza’s emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.

On Tuesday, Egyptian authorities said they would double the width of a security buffer zone currently under construction along the Gaza border, claiming that the move will prevent Gazans from entering Egypt.
