A Russian plane carrying more than 200 passengers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh has crashed in central Sinai, killing all of those on board, Egyptian officials have said.

The jet, operated by the Russian company Kogalymavia and branded as Metrojet, had initially been reported as being “completely destroyed with all on board likely to have died”, according to a security officer from the search and rescue team.

Destined for St Petersburg, the plane was carrying 224 people, including 17 children and seven crew members.

Northern Sinai is home to groups of Islamist militants, many affiliated to Islamic State, but there were no indications the plane was shot down, Egyptian security sources told Reuters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Even though the Egyptian authorities are saying there is no evidence of a shoot down, this article tries to imply a link with Islamic Jihadists, while known propaganda front Debkafile is already claiming the plane was shot down by a missile!

Here is a possibility we should consider. While the Egyptian authorities are saying there is no sign of an outside attack, it is too soon to rule out an on-board sabotage such as likely brought down Ron Brown's aircraft. The plane's flight path would have taken it over the eastern Mediterranean right off of the coast of Syria. Had the plane crashed there, it could have been blamed on Syria to strain relations between Damascus and Moscow. I wonder if this aircraft was delayed leaving the airport.
