Spam email with bomb threat sent to multiple Anchorage businesses, police say

A message containing terroristic threats has been sent to multiple Anchorage businesses, prompting evacuations in some cases. The Anchorage Police Department is investigating, but a spokesperson said the threat is not considered to be credible at this time.

The message, which APD spokesperson MJ Thim described as a spam email, was sent to a number of local businesses, including the Dimond Center Mall and others. For full disclosure, KTUU also received the threatening message on Thursday. Thim could not say exactly how many other businesses received the message.

Thim said that the threat went national, and that the origin of the message is currently unknown.

"Right now it is not thought to be a credible threat, but we are not taking chances, and investigating each threat thoroughly," Thim said.
