China and India Brawl at 14,000 Feet Along the Border

No shots have been fired, as the de facto border code dictates, but the soldiers have fought fiercely with rocks, wooden clubs and their hands in a handful of clashes. In one melee at the glacial lake Pangong Tso, several Indian troops were hurt badly enough that they had to be evacuated by helicopter, and Indian analysts said Chinese troops were injured as well.

Nobody thinks China and India are about to go to war. But the escalating buildup has turned into their most serious confrontation since 2017 and may be a sign of more trouble to come as the world’s two most populous countries increasingly bump up against each other in one of the bleakest and most remote borderlands on earth.

President Trump, unsolicited, stepped in on Wednesday, offering on Twitter to mediate what he called “a raging border dispute.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I can fully understand why both China and India are treating President Trump as though he were Kryptonite; because unfortunately, on both the national and international stages, he has been, throughout much of his first term as President.

But SOMEONE with some geopolitical integrity left (Sergei Lavrov, are you "feelin' me" this morning?!?) needs to be "working the phones" between Beijing and New Delhi, and ratcheting down the tension here, because one stupid blunder on either side could send this region into a smoldering "hot war" in a heartbeat.

Beijing Retaliates: Trade Deal On Verge Of Collapse As China Halts Some US Farm Imports

Veteran traders couldn't help but laugh when they checked US equity futures last night and saw that - as some probably had suspected they might - Dow futures were tracking for a 100-point jump at the open. With so much emergency liquidity still sloshing around the financial system, it seemed the most near-term risk many could fathom was a probable spike in new coronavirus infections in the coming weeks, hardly an imminent, overnight risk.

But as futures faded into the red around 6amET, a headline showing Beijing had just given the US-China 'Phase 1' trade deal - which has been essentially moribund for weeks now even though President Trump spared it on Friday - one more 'kick' seemed to remind investors where the real near-term macro risk lies: That is, the light-speed "decoupling" of the world's two largest economies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wow, that didn't take long, did it, President Trump?!?

Brilliant, sir; just brilliant; now what are farmers here in the heartland supposed to do with their abundance of crops originally intended for China, plow them under?!?

The margins, on small family farms, are already pinched horrifically, and credit is becoming even more and more expensive; what are you going to do for these people, Mr. President, just watch them and their kids starve to death?!?

Ancient Chinese Village of Long-Haired Rapunzels

There's an ancient settlement in Huangluo, China called the "Long Hair Village" and for the Yao minority women of the village, hair is their most prized possession.
They grow their hair up to 6.8 feet long, and manage to keep it healthy, strong and free of greys well into their old age. They consider their hair so sacred that until recently, no one was allowed to look at a woman’s loose locks except her husband and children.

China threatens to ATTACK Taiwan: One of Beijing's most senior generals warns the military will use force if there is no other way to stop island becoming independent

Li Zuocheng told Beijing's Great Hall of People today: 'The people's armed forces will take all necessary steps to resolutely smash any separatist plots or actions'

It is very rare for such a senior figure to make such a public threat against Taiwan

Beijing claims Taiwan, but the island democracy refutes it is part of China
It comes as China is cracking down on Hong Kong's democratic powers

China will attack Taiwan if there is no other way of stopping it from becoming independent, one of the country's most senior generals said today.

Li Zuocheng, chief of the Joint Staff Department and member of the Central Military Commission told Beijing's Great Hall of the People: 'If the possibility for peaceful reunification is lost, the people's armed forces will, with the whole nation, including the people of Taiwan, take all necessary steps to resolutely smash any separatist plots or actions.'

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a note of caution here; we do not have the troop strength; the weaponry; the money; or the manufacturing to achieve a positive outcome to a a potential war with China over Taiwan (or Hong Kong, for that matter).

Please; you have some intense domestic wounds to heal, both economically and societally, before you can even contemplate a war with China right now.

And I can guarantee you, sir, that doing so will NOT increase your chances for an electoral victory come this November; this country is too war-scarred, war-weary, and war-sceptical, to think that such a war would even be worth the effort right now, no matter how much China-bashing we see going on in the media today.

Trump the “Peace Candidate”: Contemplating War During Pandemic against Two Global Competitors. Nuclear Weapons “Tests” against China and Russia

The Pentagon and national security agencies directed by the White House have also been discussing the viability of engaging in war with those same two global competitors Russia and China, either individually or even simultaneously. Yes, it is true that many countries wargame certain scenarios that are unlikely ever to occur, but there is nevertheless a certain consistency in the bellicosity that comes like an endless stream out of the Trump White House.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I marginally supported President Trump over Hillary Clinton in 2016, because he did talk about ending the no-win wars in which the US government had enmeshed its military for years on end, with no resolution in sight.

And I am very supportive of his work to get US troops out of Afghanistan.

But that being said, I loathe it, that he believes that a "male member measuring contest" between himself, President Xi of China, and President Putin of Russia, through an atomic test, is an answer to US security right now, because it is not.

Worse still, such an act by the US may well be quite liable to start a nuclear arms race which could make the potential use of, let's say, a "tactical nuclear weapon" more "acceptible" to the American public, because they don't understand the utter devastation the use of such a weapon can wreak.

And that damage may be utterly unrecoverable.

How Far Will the Trump Regime and Congress Push China?

The US is waging undeclared war on China by other means.

Trump and congressional hardliners escalated things beyond where their predecessors went.

What’s going on is all about aiming to undermine China’s growing political, economic, financial, industrial, technological, and military development and prominence on the world stage.

It has nothing to do with a PRC military or other security threat. China is at peace with its neighbors and other nations.

On Thursday, Pompeo continued his war of words on China.

Falsely accusing Beijing of eroding Hong Kong’s liberties — a US specialty at home and abroad — he urged “decertification” of the city, saying:

“I can no longer certify that Hong Kong continues to warrant…deferential treatment under US law.”

He falsely claimed that China’s new national security law “contradicts the spirit (of) the one country, two systems framework.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unless some common sense steps are taken here, the new low in US/China relations is going to crash and hit the floor, leading for a potential escalation from a war of words and trade, to a shooting war.

So President Trump, a word here, please; we do not have the troop strength; the manufacturing; the weaponry; or the money to pick a military confrontation with China at this time.

Potentially, both countries need each other to both survive and prosper, economically.

US Free Speech, Meet Your Wealthy Chinese Fact Checker

The other day, I was asked by a friend to check out the Facebook fact checker that blocked the now banned YouTube video of two US doctors discussing the faulty predictive models that are being used to justify strict Covid-19 quarantines. The video is completely innocuous, two medical professionals going over publically available stats and discussing the pros and cons of lock downs and aggressive social distancing.

It turns out that the hitjob that led to blocking that video was done by Health Feedback, a unit within an organization called Science Feedback which itself is a Google/Facebook proxy established for the purpose of managing progressive medical related narratives. The following is the profile of one of one of these science censors who banned the video.

China Secures Brazilian Soy As Trade War Restart Appears Imminent

With a new round of trade war increasingly likely between the US and China, Beijing has been buying Brazilian soybeans in a sign the Asian nation may be looking to secure an alternative source of supplies. According to Bloomberg, the world’s top soybean importer purchased more than 10 cargoes in Brazil this week, despite higher prices. In a further sign that China appears to be distancing from the US, Bloomberg adds that while China bid for American soy on Tuesday, state-run buyers were absent from the market Wednesday, the people said.

"The US Is Bluffing": China Claims Trump Too "Weakened" By Pandemic To Intervene In Hong Kong

In his overnight market commentary, Rabobank's Michael Every laid out an interesting hypothesis why markets continue to fade the risk of a serious escalation in tensions between the US and China: "within serious HK money circles there is absolute certainty that the US is now an EU-style paper tiger and has no stomach for a real fight, and that Trump is so beholden to Wall Street that he won’t dare act."

And while Every himself disagrees with this sanguine assessment, saying this stance "captures the self-confidence in Beijing but utterly fails to capture the bipartisan anger in DC, or the fact that both sides are using Beijing as a stick to beat each other with in the 2020 presidential election, or that the US has financial weapons as fearsome as its military, or that the Fed is there to prop up the stock market anyway", he appears to have a point regarding China's "self-confidence."

Authored by James Rickards via The Daily Reckoning,Remember the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong against Chinese authoritarianism?

And U.S.-Chinese relations could get even worse than they are right now.

Are you prepared for a bumpy ride?

Let’s unpack this…

Last year’s protests came in response to a proposed law that would have allowed the extradition of Hong Kong residents to Beijing for trial on charges that arose in Hong Kong.

That would have deprived Hong Kong residents of legal protections in local law and subjected prisoners to torture and summary execution.

The legislation was proposed by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam, who many consider a puppet of Beijing.

The demonstrations grew exponentially, ultimately involving hundreds of thousands of protesters.

The list of demands also grew to include more democracy and freedom and adherence to Hong Kong’s rule of law.

Due to social media, these protests were seen around the world.

The proposed bill behind the original protests was scrapped last October, which was a victory for the pro-democracy protesters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please; there is nothing you can do directly to assist the people of Hong Kong.

Yes, we understand that you are waging an asymmetric war against China, encouraging separatist movements when you can to run counter to the Communist Party rule.

Xi Jing Pin has just encouraged his military to be ready to immediately "prepare for war" ‘Prepare for war’: China’s Xi Jinping tells army to thwart coronavirus impact on national security The article goes on to state: "Xi Jinping’s speech comes amid rising tension with the US, frequent references by local politicians and diplomats of reunifying Taiwan. Tension is also escalating with India with troops from the two countries clashing along different areas along the 3,488 kilometre-long disputed border."

Mr. President, this is a lousy time to escalate here; we don't have the weaponry; the troop strength; or the manufacturing, in this war-weary, war-skeptical nation. We need to focus on getting this economy opened up, and quickly, and taking care of the people here at home, many of whom have been thrown out of formerly secure work, while major executives have give themselves big bonuses before declaring corporate bankruptcy.

We need to focus on right here, and right now, for as long as you can.

Time To Learn 'Headology': "This Is Not Going To End Well"

Authored by Bill Blain via,

"Mumbled words and weird drawings in old books in the wrong hands is dangerous as hell, but not half as dangerous as they could be in the right hands...”

Sorry for being bit late this morning, but early morning call with Asia overran. HK is not going to end well.

I am watching the market moves and shaking my head. Up, Up, Down… The Dow broke 3000 on unconstrained optimism before Trump pulled it down with threats of China sanctions.. Shake it all about. Do the hokey cokey...

But, there are some particularly sickening stories out there – including Hertz executives paying themselves $16 mm in bonuses shortly before declaring bankruptcy and laying off 10,000 workers with minimum payments. I predict a series of political lynchings will shortly follow.. What next? Free cake on the dole queues? I suggest not.

Webmaster's Commentary:

People are angry and frustrated out there; as a Christian Pacifist Activist, I always counsel against violence, but can fully understand why it sometimes happens.

I am sure that the large heads of private companies going bankrupt right now, like Hertz, already have private protection in place.

"Polite Deflection Will No Longer Cut It" - US Pressures Israel To Sever Economic Ties With China

Since President Trump fired the first volley in the US-China trade war two years ago, tensions between the US and China have intensified to unprecedented levels, and the prospect of an armed confrontation between the world's two largest military and economic powers is becoming a tail risk worth considering, according to Wall Street luminaries like David Tepper.

Around that time, the State Department launched a quiet campaign to pressure America's allies, including the UK, Germany and Australia, to prohibit parts made by telecoms giant Huawei in their 5G networks, as evidence of "backdoors" in other Huawei products, and Chinese companies are often required to cooperate with state intelligence agencies. For what it's worth, Huawei has persistently denied cooperating with Beijing, and has offered to sign a "no spying" pledge. When the UK decided to allow some Huawei equipment in certain "non-essential" parts of the UK 5G network, he received a dressing-down from Trump.

China "Condemns Grave US Interference In China's Internal Affairs", Warns Of Consequences

While the market remains oblivious to pretty much any news, diplomatic relations between the US and China continue to deteriorate by the day if not by the hour.

Earlier today we reported that Secretary of State Michael Pompeo tweeted congratulations on Tuesday to Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen who was sworn in on Wednesday for a second presidential term, China promptly denounce Pompeo's message as "wrong and very dangerous", with the Ministry of National Defense releasing a statement Wednesday that said the People's Liberation Army (PLA) would "take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard" China's sovereignty, while the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs saying Pompeo's comments "seriously violated" the one-China principle.

This was followed moments ago by China's state-owned Global Times tweeting that China "urges" the US to:

Pompeo Accuses China Of Helping Iran's 'Gas For Gold' Sanctions-Busting In Venezuela

We predicted earlier that the United States is headed for another 'tanker war' with Iran, but unlike last summer this will take place far away from Persian Gulf and Mediterranean waters, instead in the Caribbean off Venezuela's coast, however unusual that scenario might be. Recall that Trump recently ordered a US naval build-up there to boot.

Currently there are five Iranian-flagged tankers transporting fuel to Venezuela across the Atlantic Ocean, with plans to break the American blockade on the Latin American country. Iran has warned that any US attempt at intercepting its fuel tankers "would have serious repercussions for the Trump administration ahead of the November elections."

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please; having this country participating in a full shooting war against Iran, China, and Venezuela, will not assist your chances for re-election, come November; rather, they will destroy them.

Your "grasp" (or lack thereof) regarding true, hard-won ethical negotiations with which to gain what the US government wants to see happen, geopolitically, reminds me of a Gandhi quip, when asked about what he thought about "western civilization"; he said, that it would be a great thing if they, Westerners, would try it (being civilized, that is.)

Right now, you, and your minions (like our "Rapture-Centric" Secretary of State Pompeo) need to be revising and stepping up your playbook, but not from a standpoint of bullying and slapping sanctions on every political system with which you do not agree, but from a standpoint of what you can do, peacefully, to achieve the Federal Government's geopolitical goals.

And Mr. President, for a 71 year old gal as I am, who has seen numerous US election cycles in her lifetime, it appears that you and your team are desperately trying "misdirection" against Iran, China, and Venezuela, because of the way in which you have handled the Covid-19 pandemic, and how this took an already shaky economy (for all those except the truly monied), and threw it under the proverbial bus.

The American people are angry, Mr. President, and feel they have no one but you and your administration to blame regarding the medical and fiscal crisis which have left many Americans homeless, and jobless; how, sir, are you going to respond, honestly, and honorably to this?!?

Create more wars?!? Mr. President, you are not an intellectually ungifted individual, and you have to know that the existing wars are bleeding this country to death, fiscally.

So were I you, I would pull US troops out of Yemen; Afghanistan; Iraq; Somalia; and in every other country in which US troops are occupiers right now.

OR, you can continue the current disastrous course of events, and hand the election, on a platter, to the serial sexual predator, and Artiste Extraordinaire of Dirty Deals (like the ousting of the Ukrainian judge investigating his son's tenure at Burisma) Joe Biden.

The choice is yours, sir; I sincerely hope you make the right one, and soon.

In Latest Escalation, President Trump Blames China For "Mass Worldwide Killing"

A day after the WHA approved a resolution authorizing a WHO-led investigation to the origins of the coronavirus in China, President Trump just lashed out at China's state-approved conspiracy-peddlers who are desperately trying to convince the Chinese people that the virus didn't come from China - but actually originated in the US.

He tweeted:

"Some wacko in China just released a statement blaming everybody other than China for the Virus which has now killed hundreds of thousands of people. Please explain to this dope that it was the “incompetence of China”, and nothing else, that did this mass Worldwide killing!"

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, please; this is not helping the situation; in fact, whether or not you are correct in your assessment (which I believe you very well may be), this response is coming off as more than a little unhinged, and not terribly statesperson-esque.

And sir, I would say to you with the utmost confidence right now, that the last thing you, or this country needs, in this election year, is a shooting war with China.

Stocks, Yuan Tick Lower As Senate Passes Bill That Could Force De-Listing Of Chinese Companies

Update (1240ET): As the Senate vote gets a broader airing on newswires, Chinese tech stocks - including Alibaba, Baidu & - are taking a beating.

Until very recently, analysts have mostly been in the lookout for signs that the administration was following through on threats to restrict portfolio investment flows into Chinese assets. But this bill - which now passes to the House - would almost be more extreme, if it had passed.

The CCP's leaders including President Xi are probably dedicating massive intelligence resources to try and discern how much of the White House's belligerent rhetoric toward China is just that - talk - and how much represents serious plans for action.

Well, after President Trump raised the prospect of delisting Chinese companies from US exchanges last week (around the time that Carson Block unveiled his latest bet against a "fraudulent" Chinese Co. trading in the US).

Webmaster's Commentary:

This situation is devolving very badly and very quickly; I would like to hope that President Trump is using every diplomatic possibility to change course here, because trade wars.... can very quickly turn into actual shooting wars.

US mulls paying companies, tax breaks to pull supply chains from China

US lawmakers and officials are drawing up proposals aimed at encouraging American companies to move operations or major suppliers out of China.

There are widespread discussions currently underway about the proposals which will include tax breaks, new rules, and carefully structured subsidies, Reuters reported Monday citing interviews with a dozen current and former government officials, industry executives and members of Congress.

The proposals, which also include the idea of a “reshoring fund” originally stocked with $25 billion, aim to push US companies to drastically revamp their relationship with China.

The funding would encourage companies that produce essential goods to move production home, making it possible to make products far down the supply chain domestically, according to two administration officials.

Can't Make This Up: Beijing Begins Construction Of A P-3 Biolab

As the new trade/tech/diplomatic/cultural (in fact, everything but kinetic) war between the US and China is heating up by the hour, one would think that China would do everything in its power to defuse one of the core accusations by the Trump administration, namely that the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China was the source of the global coronavirus pandemic (going so far as to spark unofficial demands for hundreds of billions in reparations from Beijing for its "criminal" actions), an allegation which Peter Navarro on Sunday expanded when he accused China of deliberately "seeding" the world with the "China virus":

"The Chinese behind the shield of the World Health Organization – for two months – hid the virus from the world and then sent hundreds of thousands of Chinese on aircraft to Milan, New York and around the world to seed that,” Navarro said on ABC. "They could have kept it in Wuhan. Instead it became a pandemic.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please; this country does not have the capability to prevail in a shooting war against China.

They conscript, we do not; they have some incredible weaponry, to which the US is simply having to play "catch-up" (and why, Mr. President, with all the money this country spends on weaponry, is the situation as it is, please?!?)

I would politely suggest that we really try something approximating true diplomacy here, and let China know that we are willing to work together with them, to discover both the origin of the virus, and a vaccine which works, but has utterly minimal bad side effects to those who receive it.

THAT, sir, would be statesmanship that is "both hat and cattle", on the world stage.

But your continued use of sanctions against any country you just don't like very much, rather reminds me of a little boy just given a hammer, so everything he sees just needs to be hammered down with intense enthusiasm.

I would, sir, strongly suggest you use the best diplomacy possible here, and before that becomes a completely unusable tool, due to the fact that we have already wound up at war with China.

While the rest of the world is tentatively coming out of lockdowns, China is taking advantage of the cheapest crude oil in years to stock up as demand is starting to return in the world’s largest oil importer, Bloomberg reported on Friday, citing tanker-tracking data it has compiled.

At present, a total of 117 very large crude carriers (VLCCs) – each capable of shipping 2 million barrels of oil – are traveling to China for unloading at its ports between the middle of May and the middle of August. If those supertankers transport standard-size crude oil cargoes, it could mean that China expects at least 230 million barrels of oil over the next three months, according to Bloomberg. The fleet en route to China could be the largest number of supertankers traveling to the world’s top oil importer at one time, ever, Bloomberg News’ Firat Kayakiran says.

World's Largest Contract Chipmaker Halts Deliveries To Huawei As New US Sanctions Bite

The Commerce Department's decision to tighten restrictions on Huawei announced a few days ago are already throwing a wrench in Huawei's supply chain, a sign that the US is no longer playing around, and is going all-in on bringing the Chinese telecom giant with strong links to the PLA to its knees.

As we reported on Friday, the Trump Administration reportedly blocked a shipment of American-made semiconductors that was headed to Huawei, eliciting a flurry of retaliatory threats, as Beijing via the mainland press promised to target Boeing, Apple and Qualcomm. Despite the seeming escalation in the US trade and tech wars with China, White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett told CNBC Monday morning that the 'Phase 1' trade deal appears to still be intact.

Despite years of aggressive intellectual technology theft coordinated by the Chinese government, Huawei remains surprisingly dependent on products and technology produced by American companies.

This is about to get really ugly.

China Slams US As "Perpetrator Of Largest Cyber-Theft Worldwide" As FBI Issues 'High Alert' For Virus Data Hacks

US federal agencies say they are on high alert for cyberattacks out of China targeting health research and pharmaceutical companies in efforts to steal coveted and valuable coronavirus data and possible breakthrough solutions to the pandemic, such as vaccines and experimental treatments.

The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI further have issued a "public service announcement" of what they called a "significant threat", saying health research sectors "working on a COVID-19 response should all be aware they are the prime targets of this activity and take the necessary steps to protect their systems."

While over the past month some international health bodies as well as US agencies have singled out Iran as a main perpetrator of COVID-19 related data theft and hacks, US officials threw the spotlight on Beijing this week.

Why China’s President Xi Won’t Repeat Ming Dynasty Mistakes

With hybrid warfare 2.0 against China reaching fever pitch, the New Silk Roads, or Belt and Road Initiative, will continue to be demonized 24/7 as the proverbial evil communist plot for economic and geopolitical domination of the “free” world, boosted by a sinister disinformation campaign.

It’s idle to discuss with simpletons. In the interest of an informed debate, what matters is to find the deeper roots of Beijing’s strategy – what the Chinese learned from their own rich history and how they are applying these lessons as a re-emerging major power in the young 21st century.

Let’s start with how East and West used to position themselves at the center of the world.

India Is Intensifying Its U.S. Backed Hybrid War on China

Whether it’s India’s latest clashes with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), its selective embrace of “economic nationalism” to “poach” foreign companies from the People’s Republic, or its forthcoming leadership of the World Health Assembly (WHA) where it might very well take Washington’s side in demanding an investigation into Beijing’s response to World War C, India is indisputably intensifying its American-backed Hybrid War on China as a sign of loyalty to its new ally.
