Zuckbook: Surveys Of Users Will Determine Which News is 'Trustworthy,' Results Will Be Kept Secret

Mark Zuckerberg is planning to battle "fake news" on Facebook by surveying users to determine which news sources are "broadly trusted," in other words the news you'll see will based on a popularity contest.

By using such a methodology, we can assume sites which report uncomfortable, politically incorrect truths will be demoted, while sites which reprint popular, politically correct lies and tell people what they want to hear will be promoted.

BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT MOBILIZES FEDERAL POLICE TO HANDLE 'FAKE NEWS' PROBLEM

Hot-button topic "fake news" is going to be the downfall of the internet. All over the world, governments are trying to tackle the non-issue by introducing harmful legislation that will only result in increased direct control of the press by the governments passing these bills. "Fake news" defies definition. It could be read to encompass satire and parody. It could also cover legitimate news that deals with subject matter certain people don't like. That's pretty much how it's been defined by the party in power here: whatever Donald Trump doesn't like is deemed "fake news" by the Commander in Chief, even if the news is based on factual events and credible statements.

Vice Loses Major $100 Million Investment, Forces Television Channel Off Air

Canadian media conglomerate Rogers Communications is pulling Viceland Canada off the air after it terminated its $100 million deal with the millennial digital media company, citing poor ratings and massive revenue loss.

Viceland Canada lost $2.49 million before taxes in 2016, part of an overall 14.1 percent revenue fall since 2015, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. Vice signed the three-year production and distribution deal with Rogers Communications in 2014. The channel will go off air March 31.

“In this crowded content universe and as audience habits change, we continue to evolve our strategy to deliver unique content to Canadians,” Rogers Communications told The Reporter Monday.

Viceland’s American cable channel is also suffering from poor ratings. Since replacing H2 in 2015 — a History Channel sister — it has performed considerably worse, despite its apparent millennial appeal.

How ex-congresswoman helped squelch reports of secret government surveillance

When two New York Times reporters learned in 2004 that the George W. Bush administration was secretly wiretapping Americans, and collecting their phone and email records, the reporters’ attempt to publish their findings were thwarted by the administration’s intense and successful lobbying of their editors.

“There are times when classified materials must be protected,” she told The Chronicle.

Details of the far-reaching, legally unauthorized surveillance program remained secret until the Times published the article in late 2005, more than a year after Bush was narrowly elected to a second term.

Turkey ‘will not take a step back’ in Afrin operation: Erdo?an

Turkey will “not take a step back” from its operation into Afrin and has an agreement with Russia regarding its military offensive against the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the northwestern Syrian city, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said on Jan. 22.

He was speaking on the third day of “Operation Olive Branch,” during which one civilian in the southern province of Hatay was killed as a result of rocket fire from YPG militants across the border in Afrin.

“The Afrin issue will be resolved. There will be no step back. We have discussed it with the Russians and we have an agreement with them,” Erdo?an told businesspeople gathered for an award ceremony in the capital Ankara.

He reiterated that Turkey’s offensive into Afrin will only be over once objectives are accomplished in the field, “just like the Euphrates Shield Operation” in mid-2016.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Note that Edrogan states that " We have discussed it with the Russians and we have an agreement with them.”

Very few US news outlets, even blogs, are discussing this, and there is no mention on the corpratized US presstitute media, and I will go into the reasons for this a little later in this article.

I am going to be linking to several articles which appear today at http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com, a Turkish daily blog in English which has a number of news/op-ed pieces which, I believe, all thinking Americans should be reading.

Turkey, Russia, and Iran agree on 1600 Attendees list for Sochi Meeting

This meeting is will be dedicated to creating a peaceful, stable situation in Syria, where the voices of minorities can get heard.

Turkey was infuriated by unilateral US actions in Syria-Lavrov

This article goes on to state that:

"Unilateral U.S. actions in Syria infuriated Turkey, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said, adding that Washington’s bid to cooperate with the People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara sees as a terrorist group, is a misunderstanding if not a provocation.

“Either it is a misunderstanding of the whole situation, or a deliberate provocation,” Anadolu Agency quoted Lavrov as saying at a press conference in Moscow on Jan. 22.

“We have already drawn attention to the fact that the U.S. have embarked on the creation of alternative authorities in large parts of Syrian territory,” Lavrov said.

“In Syria, Washington supplies arms both openly and discreetly to groups that cooperate with them, especially the SDF,” he said referring to the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is largely dominated by the YPG.

“The U.S. has announced the creation of certain ‘border forces’ in Syria. Clumsy denials followed. But the fact is they are still trying to control the border,” Lavrov said.

The reason yhou have barely heard a thing from the corporatized presstitutes on this issue, is that the on-going Turkish invasion of Syria represents a staggering "epic fail" of American foreign policy in the Middle East, but right now, without declaring (or NOT declaring a war, but acting covertly) against Syria; Turkey; or Russia, the US government is thoroughly impotent of doing anything about it, other than issue "milk toast", boiler-plate stements calling for "restraint"

THAT is why you are seeing, ad nauseum, images of a thouroghy disfunctional Congress, trying to figure out how to get back to working (allegedly) for We the People!

I even doubt that the adroitly skilled and nuanced Sarah Saunders, White House Press Secretary, will be able to put a positive spin on this Turkish invasion of Syria. No matter how she tries to slice and dice it, the neon red, flashing optics are officially horrible, with regard to US foreign policy.

THANKS TO "CONSENT" BURIED DEEP IN SALES AGREEMENTS, CAR MANUFACTURERS ARE TRACKING TENS OF MILLIONS OF US CARS

Millions of new cars sold in the US and Europe are "connected," having some mechanism for exchanging data with their manufacturers after the cars are sold; these cars stream or batch-upload location data and other telemetry to their manufacturers, who argue that they are allowed to do virtually anything they want with this data, thanks to the "explicit consent" of the car owners -- who signed a lengthy contract at purchase time that contained a vague and misleading clause deep in its fine-print.

Car manufacturers are mostly warehousing this data (leaving it vulnerable to leaks and breaches, search-warrants, government hacking and unethical employee snooping), and can't articulate why they're saving it or how they use it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Given the way new cars can gather and transmit data to who knows where, I think that Mike and I, in our pilgrimage to find a newer car than our 18 year old Crudmobile, will be looking at a classic from the 50s, and adopt a Cuban mechanic!!

NY Times: Kushner received “$30M From Israeli Firm”

Russiagate smells like a rotten corpse

Jared Kushner has been strengthening Israelgate. According to the New York Times itself, he received at least $30 million “from Menora Mivtachim—one of Israel’s largest financial institutions—just before he accompanied Trump on his first diplomatic trip to Israel last year.”[1] The New York Times admitted:

The deal, which was not made public, pumped significant new equity into 10 Maryland apartment complexes controlled by Mr. Kushner’s firm. While Mr. Kushner has sold parts of his business since taking a White House job last year, he still has stakes in most of the family empire—including the apartment buildings in and around Baltimore.”[2]

Journalist Glen Greenwald knocks Kushner out by saying that he is “the worst and most oppressive kind of slum lord. Are you comfortable with having Jared Kushner be the beneficiary of huge amounts of Israeli financing at the same time he’s overseeing U.S. foreign policy on Israel?”[3]

No, I don’t. The interesting thing is that the New York Times and the entire Zionist outlet cannot draw the logical deduction that this covert enterprise by Kushner is an indication of what one ought to call Israelgate.>>>>

NSA/ FBI AND DOJ Explosive Findings – Paul Craig Roberts

We have treason committed at the highest levels of the FBI and Department of Justice and the Democratic National Committee. The main function of the National Security Administration is to collect the dirt on members of the house and senate, the staffs, principal contributors, and federal judges. The dirt is used to enforce silence about the crimes of the security agencies.

The blackmail mechanism was put into gear the minute the news reported that the House Intelligence Committee had assembled proof that the FBI, DOJ, and DNC created Russiagate as a conspiracy to unseat President Trump.

Washington's well-funded web of interventionist elites is quietly populating the president's national security circle, again.

Many of them had taken a pass on “Never Trumping” publicly, and are now popping up at the elbows of top cabinet officials.

Is the American Press the Enemy of the People?

The reason why people these days are being forced to confront the title question is that Donald Trump has resoundingly asserted that the blackguards are, indeed, guilty as charged. Our bellicose and rather crude and inarticulate president would probably be surprised to learn that what he has discovered was observed more than a half-century ago in numerous writings by the extraordinarily well-spoken, anti-war Roman Catholic monk, Thomas Merton:

Nine tenths of the news, as printed in the papers, is pseudo-news, manufactured events. Some days ten tenths. The ritual morning trance, in which one scans columns of newsprint, creates a peculiar form of generalized pseudo-attention to a pseudo-reality. This experience is taken seriously. It is one’s daily immersion in “reality.”

Fusion GPS Founder Admits: Couldn’t Confirm Dossier Allegations, Spread Them To Media Anyway

usion GPS founder Glenn Simpson made a surprising if not damning admission in his interview with the House Intelligence Committee in November.

According to a transcript of his interview, released late Thursday, Simpson acknowledged that he “will never” be able to confirm a key allegation made in the infamous Steele dossier about Carter Page, the former Trump campaign adviser.

The admission is significant because of the likelihood that the FBI and Justice Department relied on allegations made about Page in the dossier to obtain a surveillance warrant against him prior to the 2016 election.

#ReleaseTheMemo goes viral as America demands to see bombshell details of the secret FISA warrant… “s**t is about to hit the fan”

While the entire legacy media is running a complete news blackout on this exploding scandal — now shaping up to be the most horrific political crime in the history of this nation — Americans are demanding federal officials #ReleaseTheMemo so that people can see for themselves what really happened.

The magnitude of this scandal is off the charts. It makes Watergate look like child’s play. According to numerous sources (see below), this scandal reveals how Obama, the DOJ, the FBI and the Clinton campaign all conspired to fabricate false “intel” to justify illegal spying on their political enemies (the Trump campaign). In other words, the U.S. intelligence community tried to steal an election but failed, and now they’re all about to be exposed (and go to jail).

“You Are Now Entering the American Sector” (Will Syria Be Partitioned?)

Do not take your eyes off the ball, remember that all this delicate pussyfooting is about power.

Russia avoided the Syrian quagmire despite dire predictions. Putin minimised his footprint, his war is almost over, ISIL has been defeated. Trump could also exclaim “Mission is completed!” – and fly home.

But, it seems he is eager to rush in where angels fear to tread. Trump does not mind doing for the Israeli Prime Minister what his predecessors, whether Democrats or Republicans, refused, namely, fighting Israel’s war by indefinitely extending the hostile and illegal occupation of Syria.

Why Is Putin “Allowing” Israel to Bomb Syria? The Saker

The truth is that “the Russians are *not* coming”. The key for Putin is to do what needs to be done to advance Russian interests but without triggering an internal or external political crisis.

Trying to reason with the Israelis or get them to listen to the UN has been tried by many countries for decades and if there is one thing which is beyond doubt is that the Israelis don’t give a damn about what anybody has to say. So talking to them is just a waste of oxygen. What about threatening them? Actually, I think that this could work, but at what risk and price?

Facebook and Google Outline Unprecedented Mass Censorship at US Senate Hearing

Behind the backs of the US and world populations, social media companies have built up a massive censorship apparatus staffed by an army of “content reviewers” capable of seamlessly monitoring, tracking, and blocking millions of pieces of content.

The character of this apparatus was detailed in testimony Wednesday from representatives of Facebook, Twitter, and Google’s YouTube before the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, chaired by South Dakota Republican John Thune.

The hearing was called to review what technology companies are doing to shut down the communications of oppositional political organizations. It represented a significant escalation of the campaign, supported by both Democrats and Republicans, to establish unprecedented levels of censorship and control over the Internet.

Former Today Show co-host Ann Curry dropped the bombshell Wednesday with the admission that there was a “climate” of sexual harassment during her years at NBC News. She agreed that this climate of sexual harassment was “pervasive,” and ended her answer with a definitive “Yes. Period.”

However, the accuracy of many of the claims has been widely disputed, with Wolff admitting early on that “looseness with the truth” is an “elemental thread of the book.”

A password for the Hawaii emergency agency was hiding in a public photo, written on a Post-it note

On Saturday, people in Hawaii were awakened by a terrifying false alert about an inbound missile. Hawaii's Emergency Management Agency has said a worker clicked the wrong item in a drop-down menu and sent it, and that its system was not hacked.

But an Associated Press photo from July that recently resurfaced on Twitter has raised questions about the agency's cybersecurity practices.

In it, the agency's operations officer poses in front of a battery of screens. Attached to one is a password written on a Post-it note.

In a direct reversal with the recently disclosed official White House policy, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the U.S. rejects a 'freeze for freeze' approach that would pause joint U.S./South Korean military drills in exchange for a pause to North Korea's nuclear program.

Speaking in Vancouver at a meeting with foreign ministers, Tillerson said that "we reject a 'freeze for freeze' approach, in which legitimate defensive military exercises are placed on the same level as the DPRK’s unlawful actions. Trust in news media takes a hit during Trump presidency

When truck driver Chris Gromek wants to know what’s really going on in Washington, he scans the internet and satellite radio. He no longer flips TV channels because networks such as Fox News and MSNBC deliver conflicting accounts tainted by politics, he says.

“Where is the truth?” asks the 47-year-old North Carolina resident.

Answering that question accurately is a cornerstone of any functioning democracy, according to none other than Thomas Jefferson. But a year into Donald Trump’s fact-bending, media-bashing presidency, Americans are increasingly confused about who can be trusted to tell them reliably what their government and their commander in chief are doing.

Interviews across the polarized country as well as polling from Trump’s first year suggest people seek out various outlets of information, including Trump’s Twitter account, and trust none in particular.
