Theresa May calls for the Brexit transition to be extended indefinitely beyond December 2020

The UK government has called for the EU to discuss extending the Brexit transition period indefinitely beyond December 2020, in a move that is likely to enrage Conservative Brexiteers.

The EU has previously insisted that Britain must be fully out of the EU by December 31, 2020, meaning a transition period would not be able to go beyond 20 months.

However, the UK's Brexit transition guidelines leaked to Business Insider, calls on the EU to discuss leaving this end date open indefinitely.

Washington Delivers New Ultimatum on Iran

The US State Department has issued a fresh ultimatum on the Iran nuclear deal to Washington’s ostensible major allies in Europe, demanding that Germany, Britain and France commit themselves to altering the agreement along the lines demanded by President Donald Trump or face its unilateral abrogation by the US.

A secret State Department cable obtained by Reuters presents what are essentially the same demands made by Trump last January. At that time, he announced that he was prepared to relaunch all-out US economic warfare against Iran unless the European powers joined Washington in imposing a rewritten nuclear accord on Tehran, including provisions that the Iranian government cannot and will not accept.

Watch huge anti-NATO demonstration in Sweden: "Russian Aggression is a Big Big Lie"

Thousands of peace activists protested Saturday in Gothenburg against NATO, against its growth to Russia's borders and the ongoing "Aurora 17" military exercises of the Western military alliance. These are the largest military exercises in Sweden in the past 23 years. However, many of the demonstrators believe that the aggression and escalation are not by Russia but from NATO itself.

One participant stated, "Russia has an interest in defending itself too, but it is NATO and the US, moving closer and closer to Russia, and they are literally asking for war, and then they tell us every day How Dangerous Russia is and I think it's a big, big lie."

‘Polocaust museum’: Polish minister calls for commemoration of non-Jewish victims of WWII

Poland’s Deputy Minister of Culture has endorsed the creation of a special “Polocaust” museum to commemorate the non-Jews who died in Poland during World War II.

It is estimated that around three million ethnic Poles were among the six million people who were killed in Poland during the war. Minister Jaros?aw Sellin said in an interview on Poland’s Radio One that he regrets that Poland’s suffering isn’t more widely known around the world. He said it’s time “this terrible fate” was acknowledged.

Munich did nothing to appease Cold War 2.0 fears – Pepe Escobar

So, let Cold War 2.0 dissolve into what it should always have been – an empty shell.

The Munich Security Conference is supposed to be an annual lofty gathering of global politicians, and military and intelligence experts. Theoretically, they discuss serious security matters under a cool professional eye in an informed setting.

Yet, in these times of doom and gloom, what the 54th conference yielded was another Russophobia show – a direct connection to the “Russiagate” soap opera in Washington.

War Preparation: Romania Orders $1 Billion Of U.S. HIMARS Missile Launchers

Romania’s commitment to increase its defense budget to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) target of 2 percent of GDP has spurred the government to approve a $1 billion purchase of American-made M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System).

Webmaster's Commentary:

Against what other country is Romania planning to use these weapons?!?

Possibly in a US government/NATO jinned up war against Russia?!?

Because at the end of the day, folks, that is at least one of the wonderful, wacky little wars NATO and the US government have been concocting.

From last year, we have the following article by Paul Craig Roberts, talking about a very serious geopolitical "trajectory" moving forward in order to stop the ascent of the ruble and the yuan:

Washington Plans to Nuke Russia & China

Notice the uptick, in US "faux news", of the demonization of Russia?!?

Notice that this Russia demonization is coupled with both US and European sanctions against it?!?

These acts, when avaluated together, are most probably a very ugly prelude to an even uglier war.

Again, this appears to be a question of timing, and what NATO and the US government think they can use to "sell" the war to US and European citizens.

Dancing To Washington's Tune: NATO Creates Military Schengen, Launches Iraq Mission

The ministers said yes to the creation of military Schengen to ease forces movements across the Old Continent. NATO is to do away with the cumbersome and lingering bureaucratic procedures hindering transportation of troops and hardware through territories of member states. One of the solutions is a standardized form used by European allies and partner states for granting permission for movements. Germany has offered to host the command center to implement the concept of free transit zone in view of its vast experience in providing logistical support.

The decision is taken amid burgeoning preparations to boost military infrastructure near Russia’s borders.

To augment the forces in East Europe, the Black Sea, the Baltics and the Scandinavian Peninsula the bloc needs new logistic hubs. Unobstructed large-scale transport movements become top priority for implementation of the war plans, such as concentrating combat-ready stocks for a full US brigade in Poland.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Poland Is Exploiting Its American “Alliance” To Stand Up To “Israel”

Escalation in Syria – How Far Can the Russians be Pushed? - The Saker

A new US strategy in Syria: to punish the Russians as much as possible short of an overt US attack on Russian forces.

Events in Syria have recently clearly taken a turn for the worse and there is an increasing amount of evidence that the Russian task force in Syria is being targeted by a systematic campaign of “harassing attacks”.

First, there was the (relatively successful) drone and mortar attack on the Russian Aerospace base in Khmeimin. Then there was the shooting down of a Russian SU-25 over the city of Maasran in the Idlib province. Now we hear of Russian casualties in the US raid on a Syrian column (along with widely exaggerated claims of “hundreds” of killed Russians).

U.S. Warns Brussels Not to Threaten NATO with EU Army

Brussels must be careful not to weaken or undermine the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as it builds a supranational European Union (EU) Army, American military leaders have told their EU allies.

Last November, 25 EU states signed the Permanent Structured Cooperation on Security and Defence (PESCO), agreeing on a multi-billion-euro common defence fund and a shared military headquarters.

The European Commission’s president then demanded a “fully-fledged Defence Union” by 2025 before the bloc’s foreign minister revealed they were working at “full speed” to create a unified “defence force” on a “continental scale”.

U.S. leaders have now raised concerns that the EU Army could weaken the NATO defence alliance and block American military manufacturers from bidding on certain European projects at the Munich Security Conference on the weekend.

Brains for Brexit: UK Intellectuals Break Ranks with Pro-EU Academic Establishment

Some of the UK’s best and brightest have banded together to form a new pro-Brexit group to counteract the propaganda that Leave supporters are dim-witted, ‘low-information’ voters.

‘Briefings for Britain’, which has launched a new website, is backed by over 40 distinguished former civil servants, historians, legal professionals, philosophers, scientists, and others — and claims there are more like them who are still afraid to stick their heads above the parapet.

“They said, ‘I’d love to be part of your group but I haven’t got a proper job yet and I probably won’t if I’m identified’,” explained Dr. Graham Gudgin, an economist at the Centre for Business Research and Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, in comments to The Times.

Jews Collaborating With Nazis During the Holocaust is Confirmed Fact - Warsaw

The words of the Prime Minister of Poland that among the collaborators helping the Nazis during the Second World War were representatives of different nationalities, including Jews, have been confirmed by historical facts, the chief of the Polish Prime Minister's Chancellery Michal Dworczyk said on Polish television.

"Of course, the Prime Minister said that there were perpetrators both among the Polish people and among other nationalities who were living in Poland at that time, among Jewish people also, and this is a painful truth. Discussion on this topic is continuing in Israel and incites deep emotions," Michal Dworczyk said on Polish television.

Turkey Threatens To Invade Greece

In an incident that took place less than two weeks after the Greek Defense Ministry announced that Turkey had violated Greek airspace 138 times in a single day, a Turkish coast guard patrol boat on February 13 rammed a Greek coast guard vessel off the shore of Imia, one of many Greek islands over which Turkey claims sovereignty.

Most of the areas within modern Greece's current borders were under the occupation of the Ottoman Empire from the mid-15th century until the Greek War of Independence in 1821 and the establishment of the modern Greek state in 1832. The islands, however, like the rest of Greece, are legally and historically Greek, as their names indicate.

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), however, and even much of the opposition seem intent on, if not obsessed with, invading and conquering these Greek islands, on the grounds that they are actually Turkish territory.

Goofy Indictments Divert Attention from Criminal Abuses at the FBI and DOJ

All of these suspects will go uninvestigated, unindicted, and unpunished just like the perpetrators of the Iraq War, just like the perpetrators of the Financial Meltdown, and just like the perpetrators of all the major crimes against the American people.

The evidence that the FBI and DOJ “improperly obtained” FISA warrants to spy on Trump campaign affiliate, Carter Page, has now been overshadowed by the tragic massacre in Parkland, Florida and the obfuscating indictments of 13 Internet “trolls” who have not been linked to the Russian government and who are being used to conceal the fact that the 18 month-long witch hunt has not yet produced even one scintilla of hard evidence related to the original claims of “hacking or collusion”.

Hungary's Prime Minister has claimed that 'Christianity is Europe's last hope' after accusing politicians in Brussels, Berlin and Paris of causing the 'decline of Christian culture and the advance of Islam'.

New Austrian Foreign Minister Slams Merkel for Migrant Crisis, Demands Orban-Style Border Protection

Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl slammed German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her decision in 2015 to welcome migrants, saying it was a “pull factor”, and praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for working to secure the European border.

The new minister, who was nominated by the anti-mass migration Freedom Party (FPÖ) but is officially an independent, has been a vocal critic of pro-mass migration policies since the 2015 crisis. Ms. Kneissl said that the European Union needs “comprehensive reform of the entire asylum system and border management”, in an interview with German magazine Der Spiegel.

According to Kneissl, EU member states should be looking to Prime Minister Orbán and his work on preventing illegal migration and who she said was correct for wanting to tighten the borders.

Polish PM seeks dialogue with Israel on 'difficult history'

Poland's prime minister said Sunday that dialogue with Israel about the Holocaust is necessary and would serve as a warning to prevent such "exceptionally terrifying" crimes from happening again.

Mateusz Morawiecki tweeted his thoughts after a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The call was prompted by a comment the Polish politician made that equated Polish collaborators in the Holocaust to alleged "Jewish perpetrators."

The remark, given Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, reignited a weekslong diplomatic dispute over Poland's new law prohibiting some statements about the Holocaust. The law reflects the current Polish government's approach to World War II history, which focuses on Poland's suffering and heroism.

Mueller: No Collusion Between Trump and Putin, But the Russia Card Is Bigger Than Ever

Sheer hypocrisy and crass dishonesty incarnate.

Now, a few days later—and thirteen indictments from one of Mueller’s grand juries, announced by the very same Rosenstein, specifically against more “Russian players” who reportedly “meddled” in the 2016 American elections, but without any connivance by the Trump campaign—and Rosenstein is feted as a veritable savior of the republic by those same commenters. Those Neocons who now selectively support the president and those bitterly anti-Russian Fox pundits (with the possible exception of Tucker Carlson) are absolutely giddy with delight! For too long, in their defense of President Trump against the charge of collusion, they had found themselves in the extremely uncomfortable situation (for them) of having to mount an attempt to exculpate the Russians, or at least lessen their culpability.

Time for Turkey to return to the West

***
These contacts could ultimately result in an improvement in Turkey’s relations with the European Union as a whole. Within that framework, the Feb. 14-15 visit to Turkey by Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland was also probably important.

It is same for relations with the U.S., only much more complicated. Çavu?o?lu had said in advance of Tillerson’s visit that relations between the two countries could either get better or worse but not stay the same. Following a three-hour-plus meeting between Erdo?an, Tillerson and Çavu?o?lu on the evening of Feb. 15 - and a near two-hour meeting between Tillerson and Çavu?o?lu with their delegations on the morning of Feb. 16 - the joint declaration and joint press conference showed that Ankara-Washington ties are at least not going to get worse for the time
being.
***
But the main focus of the Tillerson visit was the Turkish-U.S. rift in Syria. It was interesting to see Tillerson saying the status of the town of Manbij was a priority, as Çavu?o?lu said Turkey wanted the U.S. to keep its promises and remove the People’s Protection Units (YPG) from Manbij to the east of Euphrates as a precondition for coordinating actions in Syria.

Sad Old Men Will Attack Russia at the Munich 'Security' Conference

The annual Munich Security Conference (MSC) will take place on February 16-18. No doubt the participants will paint Russia as a bully who is responsible for each and every thing that is going wrong, while the “innocent” West is calling for restraint and is ready to go to any length to preserve peace on earth.

The West is innocent? Russia is a bully and a threat? This is the right time to look at recent events to see what’s really happening. Russia deploys missiles on its own territory, NATO goes ballistic

Over the past few days, the "dispute" between NATO and Russia over the latter’s deployment of Iskander-M rockets in its own Kaliningrad region has heated up. In particular, on February 14th, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged Russia to be “transparent,” although he also admitted that Moscow had announced its missile deployments to its border region a few years ago. In other words, Stoltenberg’s recent statement on the matter bore no semblance of transparency.

Meanwhile, Russia is working to make this “issue” a transparent one. I believe it to be no coincidence that on last Sunday, February 11th, the popular program Voennaia priomka on the Zvezda TV channel of Russia’s Ministry of Defense, discussed in detail the tactical and technical characteristics of Iskander missile complexes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Undercover Israeli journalist travels to Germany as Syrian refugee to 'join' Islamists

Prominent Israeli journalist Zvi Jecheskeli, who went undercover as a devout Muslim, has revealed how easy it may be for Islamists to pass through Germany's borders and become a "Syrian refugee.”

Jecheskeli spent several years risking his life to film a documentary on the role and influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in the streets of Germany, France, Britain and Turkey. While the organization is legal in some countries and has affiliated political parties, its outlawed as a terrorist group in others, including Russia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Infiltrating the ranks of the Muslim Brotherhood is a challenge indeed, as the group is “known for its distrust” of outsiders, whom they would “never” allow a glimpse into their plans, Jecheskeli told Die Welt.

'Illegitimate': MEPs Slam Soros for Undue Influence on Eurozone Integration

The news comes amid ongoing controversy over the hedgefund billionaire's attempts to meddle in the United Kingdom's effort to leave the European Union.

A group of lawmakers from the European Parliament have accused billionaire financier George Soros of attempting to undermine European democracy via his recent closed-door meeting with a director of the European Central Bank.

EU Backs Down on Brexit Deal ‘Punishment Clause’ After Mogg Declares: ‘We Won’t Roll Over’

The European Union has backed down from its plans to insert a ‘punishment clause’ into its Brexit deal with the United Kingdom, after leading Leave campaigners including Jacob Rees-Mogg said the country would not “roll over” for Brussels.

The European Commission, led by President Jean-Claude Juncker, and chief negotiator Michel Barnier wanted Britain to agree to a sanctions mechanism throughout the so-called ‘transition’ period which will — assuming a deal is made — run for roughly two years after Britain’s formal exit from the EU in 2019.

The Commission’s draft proposals instructed Britain to “abstain, during the transition period, from any action or initiative which is likely to be prejudicial to the [European] Union’s interests”, and provided for the bloc to suspend Britain’s trade access without reference to the European Court of Justice in the interests of saving time.

‘European Politicians Won’t Accept Western World Is at War’: Czech Security Analyst

A military analyst has criticised EU leaders for failing to accept that “the Western world is at war” and warned that Europe will see worse terror attacks committed by Islamic extremists.

“Most politicians do not want to admit that the Western world is at war and should act accordingly… Policy responses are, in most cases, inadequate,” Lukáš Visingr told Czech news channel ?T24.

Mr. Visginr added that the recent period of calm – following the spate of Islamic extremist-inspired terror attacks that included the London Bridge, Manchester, Champs Elysees, Paris, and Barcelona attacks during the summer of 2017 – should not be taken as permanent.

“Informants warn that there are hundreds and thousands of well-trained jihadists in Europe who are ready to carry out attacks,” he said, noting that these Islamic State militants are returning from war zones in the Middle East after facing military defeat.

'Stop Soros' Anti-Immigration Bill Submitted to Hungarian Parliament

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s anti-immigration campaign takes aim at US billionaire George Soros, who has been pumping funds to boost “open-door” values in Eastern Europe.

Hungary’s government introduced a bill that would enable the Interior Minister to ban NGOs that back migration and jeopardize national security.
The proposed legislation will impose a 25 percent tax on foreign donations to NGOs supporting migration in Hungary, thus hindering the illegal immigration flow, which, according to Orban, undermines European stability and has been stoked in part by George Soros.

According to the bill, NGOs that "sponsor, organize or support the entry or stay of third-country citizens on Hungarian territory via a safe third country to extend international protection… qualify as organizations supporting migration."

Disgraced Dutch Foreign Minister Resigns After Admitting Lying About Putin's "Greater Russia" Comment

The Netherlands' foreign minister was facing a tough debate in Parliament Tuesday following his admission that he lied about attending a meeting hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin at his country retreat more than a decade ago.

But, Minister Zijlstra just confirmed he is stepping down at the beginning of the debate in the House of Representatives.

He called it "by far the biggest mistake of my political life, the Netherlands deserves a foreign minister who is beyond any doubt."

As FD.nl reports, on Monday, the coalition seemed to want to support Zijlstra. But that became difficult when the Volkskrant reported that Zijlstra not only lied about the source of Putin's message - not he, but then Shell CEO Jeroen van der Veer was present at the meeting - but that Zijlstra also misunderstood the content of the message interpreted.
