Will Trump Go to War With Iran to Save the US Oil Industry?

It’s believed that a US-Iran war would disrupt the flow of Middle Eastern oil and, as such, should be avoided at all costs. With US oil futures trading in the negative, has the risk of such a war suddenly become attractive?

The Pandemic Comes To Yemen

Yemen was already the world’s worst humanitarian crisis for the last five years, and the arrival of coronavirus could make it much worse in the next few months.

The country has already been devastated by five years of war, pestilence, and famine, and last week there was a report of the first confirmed case of coronavirus there. Last month, the Trump administration had impeccably bad timing in suspending aid shipments to Houthi-controlled parts of the country because of Houthi interference with the delivery of aid. The humanitarian relief organization Oxfam warned that this suspension of aid comes at exactly the wrong time, and it leaves an already terribly weakened Yemen even more vulnerable to the ravages of the pandemic:

U.S. officer killed in ambush in eastern Syria: SANA

A U.S. officer, along with two Kurdish fighters, was killed on Monday in an ambush in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, state news agency SANA reported.

The ambush, carried out by an unknown group, targeted vehicles of the U.S.-led coalition and fighters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in the village of Sur in Deir al-Zour's countryside.

The slain U.S. officer was transported to the Shaddadi base, which is run by the U.S. forces, in the southern countryside of the northeastern province of Hasakah, SANA said, providing no further details.

The U.S. forces and Kurdish-led fighters control areas in Deir al-Zour and Hasakah after dislodging Islamic State (IS) militants in battles in 2018.

I am, frankly, very deeply concerned that the US military is in Syria at all, period, end of discussion....

Yemen Is Shattered And The U.S. Helped The Saudis Break It

Five years ago the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia invaded neighboring Yemen. The conflict was supposed to be quick and simple, over in a few weeks. Now the once-haughty Saudi royals have offered a ceasefire, after their opponents, Houthi irregulars, captured the province of al-Jawf.

The conflict has created a horrific humanitarian crisis. Yemen, which has long been divided, impoverished, and embattled, is wrecked, and is unlikely to emerge as one complete nation. The cost has been roughly 100,000 dead in combat (nearly 20,000 of them civilians); another 130,000 dead from the consequences of the conflict; a million people suffering from Cholera; 20 million Yemenis facing food insecurity; sixteen million regularly hungry; and ten million at risk of famine.

First NATO-ME War Overturns Regional Order

While Europeans and Arabs are being absorbed by the coronavirus, Anglo-Saxons are changing the world order. Under US command, the United Kingdom took control of the Red Sea entrance; the United Arab Emirates turned on Saudi Arabia and inflicted a bitter defeat on South Yemen, while the Houthis did the same in North Yemen. Yemen is now split into two separate states and the territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia is threatened.

Saudi Airstrikes Pound Yemeni Capital, Scores of Horses Killed

Looking to retaliate after Houthi missile fire into Saudi Arabia, Saudi warplanes carried out multiple airstrikes against different targets in the capital of Sanaa. hitting a presidential palace, a school, and an airbase, along with a military training site.

The coalition insisted that all of the targets hit were “legitimate military targets” that threaten civilians. Casualty reports suggest one person was killed in the strikes, along with about 70 horses who were kept at the military training site.

These are some of the biggest Saudi strikes in months, as both sides had dialed back the attacks to focus on possible peace talks. There is still no deal in sight, but escalations have led them to trade strikes on one another here and there.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When I think of the Saudi "justification" for strikes like this, which included horses and schools, I am very much reminded of the response given by Dominick Guzman, Papal Legate to the French province of Montsegur, to battle the Cathars, a Christian split-off group, with their own perspectives, and their own faith.

Upon being informed that women and children were also inside the siege site, his response was, "Kill them all; God will find His own."

The Catholic Church went on to canonize this guy, now known in Catholicism, as St. Dominic, so that he would go on to be revered as a saint, and not the mass murderer he actually was, in order to be rewarded for carrying out the Vatican's orders.

I would like to politely suggest to Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, that the judgment of history against him, will be negative in the extreme, as will history's judgement of the two US Presidents who have enabled him, and are enabling him and his troops' war crimes in Yemen, President Obama, and President Trump.

US Plans to Transfer Cargo to Syrian Militants Disguised as Aid for Refugees - Russian Military

he Rukban camp, which houses up to 25,000 refugees is located in the US-controlled zone around its unauthorised military base at Al-Tanf, making it almost impossible for humanitarian workers to access the area.

"The American side cynically seeks to take advantage of the situation concerning the spread of the coronavirus and is putting pressure on the UN leadership to bring 'humanitarian aid' to the Rukban refugee camp under the guise of diagnostic tools to feed controlled militants", the interagency coordinating headquarters of Russia and Syria said in a joint statement on Saturday.

The military stressed that the disastrous situation in the camp is a result of the illegal occupation of the area by American forces, noting that the refugees should be returned to their homes in the territory under the control of the Syrian government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would very much like to ask some Foggy Bottomites, very quietly and logically, what the hell we are doing in Syria, when we cannot save our own people from Covid 19?!?

Houthi rebels in Yemen over the weekend launched what's being described as among the largest assaults on Saudi Arabia since the start of the war five years ago.

Hand-washing: a luxury millions of Yemenis can't afford

Hand-washing to combat the spread of coronavirus is the order of the day, but it's an unaffordable luxury for millions in war-ravaged Yemen where clean water is dangerously scarce.

Yemen's broken healthcare system has yet to register any cases of the disease, but if the pandemic does hit, the impact will be unimaginable in a country where five years of conflict has created what the United Nations calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Five years after a Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen to support the government against the Iran-backed Huthi rebels, some 80 percent of the population is in need of aid.

- Cholera and disease -

Yemen suffered one of its worst ever outbreaks of cholera in 2017.

"Years of under-investment in public water and sanitation systems provided the foundations for this outbreak," Bismarck Swangin, UNICEF Yemen's chief of communications, told AFP.

"The risk still remains if access to water continues to be low."

Webmaster's Commentary:

What this article deliberately avoids naming and shaming, is the US military's having enabled Saudi destruction of Yemen, including live fire taking the lives of infants; toddlers; women, and the medically fragile elderly; they have enabled the complete destruction of water infrastructure, guaranteeing that the water will nearly certainly cause disease; and prevented aid ships from getting in to Yemen, to provide desperately needed food aid.

Don’t let the Saudis use coronavirus concerns to hide their crimes

Saudi Arabia has just offered to host a “Virtual” G20 summit, bringing the world’s leaders together to address the coronavirus pandemic. While the world absolutely needs much better international coordination in response to this catastrophic pandemic, Saudi Arabia’s ruling family is one of the last governments we should want convening a conversation on solving any humanitarian crisis, let alone a crisis of this magnitude.

Saudi Arabia’s ruling family has repeatedly demonstrated its opposition to the very principles that enable a successful response to a global pandemic. To successfully address a public health crisis, governments must embrace information transparency and a willingness to listen to independent voices who might challenge their preconceived notions. The Saudi dictatorship has consistently done the opposite, deploying brutal campaigns of internal repression and censorship to silence dissent.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No matter how you slice it, the Saudi "leadership" continues to be really bad news for the Middle East and beyond.

50,000 children die every year in Yemen: Ansarullah

Yemen’s Houthi Ansaruallh movement says the years-long Saudi-led war and blockade on the impoverished Arab country has increased the infant mortality rate alarmingly.

The Ansarullah said Thursday the ongoing Saudi military aggression against Yemen has fueled famine, poverty and diseases, resulting in the deaths of 50,000 children annually, many of whom are under a month old.

Saudi Arabia and its allies launched a deadly military aggression against Yemen in an attempt to reinstall a Riyadh-backed former regime and eliminate the Houthi movement, which has been defending the country along with the armed forces.

The Western-backed offensive, coupled with a naval blockade, has destroyed the country’s infrastructure.

‘Zionist’ Biden in His Own Words: ‘My Name is Joe Biden, and Everybody Knows I Love Israel’

“I am a Zionist. You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist,” current Democratic Presidential candidate, Joe Biden, said in April 2007, soon before he was chosen to be Barack Obama’s running mate in the 2008 elections.

Biden is, of course, correct, because Zionism is a political movement that is rooted in 20th century nationalism and fascism. Its use of religious dogmas is prompted by political expediency, not spirituality or faith.

Unlike US President, Donald Trump, or Bernie Sanders, Biden’s only serious opponent in the Democratic primaries, Biden’s stand on Israel is rarely examined.

Trump has made his support for Israel the cornerstone of his foreign policy agenda since his inauguration into the White House in January 2017. The American President has basically transformed into Israel’s political genie, granting Tel Aviv all of its wishes in complete defiance of international law.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Again, no matter who one votes for as President in November, US foreign policy toward Israel and the Middle East will not change to one of more even-handedness; fairness; and truly listening to the legitimate complaints of countries in the region against Israeli policies.

So, I have a caveat to share; no matter if Trump or Biden wins this election, be prepared to sacrifice your sons and daughters for more, endless wars in the Middle East, as the US government re-institutes the draft to secure Israel's position in the region.

As Coronvirus Grips the US, Americans Get a Taste of Life Under Sanctions

The crippling shortages, inability to move and the likely overwhelming of medical services will give Americans a taste of what it is like to live under sanctions that it imposes on a number of countries worldwide. U.S. sanctions on Venezuela, declared illegal and a “crime against humanity” by the United Nations, are conservatively estimated to have killed more than 40,000 people between 2017 and 2018 alone. Diabetics, for example, have been unable to get insulin because of the embargo, leading to mass deaths. The Cuban government estimates that the American embargo has cost it over $750 billion. Meanwhile, Iran, wracked by the virus that has caused more than 850 confirmed deaths, has been decimated by Trump’s increased sanctions.

The Forgotten Epidemic: Cholera in Yemen

The cholera outbreak started in Yemen in October 2016. The outbreak exploded in 2017 when the country saw over one million cases, the worst cholera epidemic since records started in 1949. In 2019, Yemen experienced the second-worst year, with over 860,000 suspected cases. 2020 is on track to be another bad year, with over 56,000 new suspected cases recorded in the first seven weeks. As of March 8th 2020, the World Health Organization has recorded 2,263,304 cholera cases in Yemen and 3,767 deaths related to the illness since 2017.

The international humanitarian organization Oxfam has warned the rainy season in Yemen will cause a spike in cholera cases, as it has in previous years. The rainy season starts in mid-April and lasts until August.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem is for me, as a 70 year old American, is the very unmistakable realization that, no matter who I vote for (and God knows, of the current batch of Candidates on the Democratic side of the Aisle, the only one looking half-way viable, is Tulsi Gabbard, the Representative from Hawaii, who has been marginalized out of both the debates, and out of running for President), I only have a choice for which war-monger in chief, and merchant of death in chief, is running the White House, and US foreign policy.

Our alleged "choices" for leadership every 4 years, only includes those warmongers fully capable of sating the military industrial complex's bloodlust, and that never augers well for world peace.

From my perspective, American elections are very much akin to Kabuki-like exercises in futility, where none of the choices of peace-centric Americans are ever honored, expect in the breach.

We have both President Trump and Vice-President Biden fulminating as to which of them will actually protect Israel better from the consequences of its own actions; the Middle East, and South America, have the oil; so the wars of destabilization will continue against them, and briskly.

We see "Rapture Ready" Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, actually make the statement on record with the BBC, that President Trump may have been put into office to save Israel from Iran.

Whatever battlefields will erupt, however, will have to do so quickly, and with a minimum of time before they cab take hold; the center cannot manage to stay together in this economy.

And as to the question about when we will get something better than "the lesser of two evils", I am hard-pressed to say, "Never!!" until this country's present state collapses, and we are either faced with martial law, the severity of which would make a Chinese politburo blush, or some kind of new orientation and system, we are going to be dealing with a "business as usual" which can never be "normal" again.

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a very tough state of affairs for this country, but that is precisely where we are right now.

Two Explosive-Laden Boats Launched by Houthis Destroyed by Saudi-Led Coalition

Yemen has been facing a severe humanitarian crisis since 2015, caused by the ongoing military conflict between the government headed by President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and the Houthi rebel movement, which controls the north of the country, including the capital of Sana'a.

The Saudi-led coalition has intercepted and destroyed two boats fitted with explosives launched by the Houthi rebels, Saudi state news agency SPA reported on Tuesday. According to the report, the Houthis dispatched the boats from the port city of Al Hudaydah.

US now openly admits its goal in Syria is to make it 'difficult' for Moscow and Damascus to defeat terrorists

The State Department’s special envoy for Syria has just admitted that the US aims to defend jihadist militants in Idlib against ‘Russian aggression,’ proving once again that the swamp in Foggy Bottom is alive and well.
Russia and the Syrian government “are out to get a military victory in all of Syria,” Ambassador James Jeffrey told reporters on a conference call out of Brussels on Tuesday.

Our goal is to make it very difficult for them to do that by a variety of diplomatic, military, and other actions.

To illustrate these methods, Jeffrey cited the US threat to respond “in a very savage military way” against any chemical attacks, which he described as “a favorite tactic of the Syrian regime in making advances.” This is factually untrue, since the alleged attacks always happen after Syrian Army victories, as a pretext for US intervention.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hearing the consistent hissings of US government lying is enough to make me physically ill; but Jeffries is near the competitive "gold" for describing the reality that the US hires, trains, arms, and funds terrorists, to keep the Russians and Syrian government from winning this war.

I would like to politely remind him, that payback for this kind of public lying, and the actions it can attempt to justify, can be a real bear.

US Nukes Reportedly Delivered To Poland

In order to prevent the conflict in the region to be nuclear, USA decided to take the nukes out of Turkey. The fact of taking the ammunition out of the country was widely discussed in Turkish media.

The media informed that five C-17A Globemasters III arrived to Incerlik AB from Ramstein Air Base and took the whole bulk of nukes out to Germany, Poland and one of the Baltic States.

An official in the Air Mobility Command who wished to remain anonymous said that the nuclear ammunition had already been delivered to Powidz, Poland in early March 2020.

In this way the tensions are to rise in Europe: the biggest US maneuvers in Europe, more nukes– that can provoke reactions from Russia.

Moscow has already warned that Russian government would take responsive measures to an upcoming, massive U.S. military deployment and U.S.-led exercises across multiple European states bordering Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, just because something is the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid thing the US government could ever do, is no guarantee that it will not do just that, which is one of the most frightening aspects of US foreign policy; and right now, looking at the Turkish and Russian positions in Syria, this could potentially devolve into all-out war, as both Turkey and the US are sister NATO countries, and the US (and Israel) want Al Assad's government crushed to smithereens in Damascus.

Mohammed bin Nayef had been crown prince before his title was taken away
King Salman put his son - Prince Mohammed bin Salman - first in line for throne.

The brother and nephew of Saudi Arabia's King Salman have been arrested over a plot to oust the king and his son, Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The detentions cast aside the last vestiges of potential opposition to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and come as the kingdom limits access to Islam's holiest sites in a highly sensitive move to contain the fast-spreading coronavirus.

Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, a brother of King Salman, and the monarch's nephew Prince Mohammed bin Nayef were accused of treason.

A Terrifying Scenario: Coronavirus in ‘Quarantined’ Gaza

What if the Coronavirus reaches the besieged Gaza Strip?

While the question carries great urgency for all Palestinians living under Israel’s military occupation, the Gaza situation is particularly complex and extremely worrying.

Nearly 50 countries have already reported cases of COVID-19 disease, one of several epidemics that are caused by the Coronavirus. If developed countries, such as Italy and South Korea, are struggling to contain the deadly virus, one can only imagine what occupied Palestinians would have to face should the virus strike.

In fact, according to official Palestinian reports, the Coronavirus has already reached Palestine following a visit by a South Korean delegation in the period between February 8 and 15, which included a tour in the major Palestinian cities of Jerusalem, Nablus, Jericho, Hebron, and Bethlehem.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF this plague hits Gaza, you can bet real money that instead of doing something concrete, top help victims heal, and minimize rates of infection, Israeli officials will "seal off" infected areas, and allow this potentially bioengineered disease to "run its course"; Mengele would have been SO PROUD of this Israeli policy!!

And hey, 30 Palestinian kids who have had to have limbs amputated, because IDF sharpshooters know just how, and where, to aim, to cause these horrendous injuries?!?

Empires of the Steppes Fuel Erdogan Khan’s DreamsAs Putin meeting looms, no one in Moscow believes any word, promise or cajoling from Erdogan anymore

“Idlib is mine”

So there is a link between the turcophone tribes of Central Asia from the 5th and 6thcenturies and the current Turkish nation. From the 6th to the 11th centuries they were set up as a confederation of big tribes. Then, going southwest, they founded states. Chinese sources document the first turkut (Turkish empires) as eastern Turks in Mongolia and western Turks in Turkestan.

They were followed by more or less ephemeral empires of the steppes such as the Uighurs in the 8th century (who, by the way, were originally Buddhists). It’s interesting that this original past of the Turks in Central Asia, before Islam, was somewhat elevated to mythic status by the Kemalists.

Ending the Myth that Trump Is Ending the Wars: Trump has sent more new troops to the Middle East than he’s bringing home from Afghanistan.

There was this moment during the State of the Union Address that I can’t stop thinking about.

When President Trump spoke to army wife Amy Wiliams during his speech and told her he’d arranged her husband’s return home from Afghanistan as a “special surprise,” it was difficult to watch.

Sgt. Townsend Williams then descended the stairs to reunite with his family after seven months of deployment. Congress cheered. A military family’s reunion — with its complicated feelings that are typically handled in private or on a base — was used for an applause line.

That gimmick was the only glimpse many Americans will get of the human reality of our wars overseas. There is no such window into the lives or suffering of people in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, or beyond.

That’s unacceptable. And so is the myth that Trump is actually ending the wars.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Given that many of the Trump-Centric Evangelicals in this country are also "End of Time Believers", who believe that it will be only after a massive world war (which humankind MUST bring about) that Jesus' "Second Coming" will happen, coupled with the push by the military industrial complex for wars and more wars, I see both the chances for bringing about the end of existing wars, and not bringing about new ones, is statistically very slight for this administration.

And the hell of it it is, once the Dementocrats finally have nailed down their choices for President and Vice President, whoever they may be, we are still looking at a party which will never "cross the line" in terms of questioning if such a war is necessary, and if there might possibly be other alternatives which would see the US get what it wanted to get, geopolitically, without firing a shot.

So, as usual, at the end of the day, the American voter has utterly zero choice in finding a non-warmonger as their presidential or vice-presidential candidate, because no matter who they vote for, every vote in this Kabuki-like charade, is a vote for more war.; it pains me to say this, but if people are honestly, dispassionately looking at the American Presidential political process, this is the butt-ugly truth, no matter how you describe it.

Turkish Army Posts in Syria’s Idlib Merge With Rebel Positions: Russia says Turkey is violating past deals on Idlib

Turkish-backed Islamist rebels in Northern Syria’s Idlib Province have been getting more and more aid from Turkey to fight against the Syrian government. They are looking for direct Turkish backing by embedding closer and closer to Turkish Army posts. At this point, they’ve effectively merged.

This makes sense for the rebels to do, because having Syria attack al-Qaeda doesn’t look like a problem, but having Syria attack the Turkish military does. Making it less clear which is which ensures that every Syrian military operation is vilified.

Russian officials were critical of this tactic, saying Turkey was violating obligations they’d established in previous deals over Idlib, particularly deals when all those Turkish Army posts were established. This was done specifically so Turkey didn’t do exactly what they’re doing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How ever this is happening, it does not auger well for peace; for the Syrian people, and for its government.

WATCH: Fistfight breaks out in Turkish parliament after lawmaker lashes out at Erdogan over Idlib soldier deaths

Turkey’s parliament descended into a chaotic fistfight after an opposition lawmaker accused President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an of disrespecting Turkish soldiers killed recently in Idlib, Syria.

During a closed session about the country’s operations in Idlib, opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) member Engin Ozkoc said Erdogan disrespected the dead troops and had also acted irresponsibly by sending them into conflict without air cover.

Russia says Turkey trying to push 130,000 refugees from Syria into Greece - Interfax

Russia on Tuesday said that Turkey was trying to push 130,000 refugees from Syria into Greece, the Interfax news agency cited the Defence Ministry as saying.

The two thirds of these refugees - that Turkey is pushing from temporary camps in Syria - are Afghans, Iraqis and Africans, not Syrians, it added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What Turkey is attempting to do here, is "weaponize" refugees by having them pour into Europe, as "blackmail" for NATO not supporting Turkish military misadventures in Syria; and NATO wants no part of a fight against Russia for Syrian territory.

Assad Joins Forces With Libya’s Hafter to Combat Turkey: East Libya govt will open embassy in Damascus

While recent generations have shown them reluctant to expand far beyond their borders, in the past few months Turkey has shown interest in overseas military engagements. Forces have been active in northern Syria with an eye toward regime change, and Turkey has also committed to military involvement in Libya.

That’s given Turkey two potential enemies to worry about, and given them each a potential new ally. The Syrian government and Libya’s self-proclaimed Libyan National Army (LNA) or Gen. Khalifa Haftar have agreed to cooperation, and a memorandum of understanding to confront Turkish aggression.

The LNA’s adjoining government, the eastern-based Tobruk Parliament, has confirmed it will be opening an embassy in Damascus. This will be the first Libyan embassy in Syria since the 2012 NATO-imposed regime change in Libya.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is one of the most significant developments regarding Libya, that you will almost never hear about, courtesy of the Corporate Presstitutes.

A very very curious, but astute, article appeared in mid-January of this year, from fp, and titled: Russia’s Role in the Libyan Civil War Gives It Leverage Over Europe

It then states that "recent joint Russian-Turkish summit in Moscow aimed at forging a cease-fire in Libya broke down after the Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar left without signing the proposed truce agreement. One of Haftar’s main backers is Russia, and his unwillingness to sign on to the deal raises important questions about not only the degree of influence Russia actually has in Libya, but also how serious it is about bringing an end to the conflict.

Russia first rose to prominence in Libya in September 2019 after it deployed mercenaries to the front lines of Tripoli to back Haftar, sparking concern in the United States and Europe that the Kremlin had finally thrown its hat into Libya’s civil war. Its presence in Libya was strikingly reminiscent of the decisive role it played in Syria, where it backed the regime of President Bashar al-Assad to brutal effect and essentially saved the regime from collapse."

but if Syria (and Russia) are bringing force to bear against the current UN/proxy military government in Tripoli, which Erdogan is claiming he is fighting to defend, we have a couple of potential outcomes, both lousy, for US involvement here.

The first is a triumphant Haftar, after taking Tripoli, and the rest of the country, calling for new elections, and throwing the delegitimized UN government out, and the question has to be asked; what is the US government actually willing to do to prevent this, in light of the fact that Russia is siding with Haftar?!?

The second is a prolonged US/NATO-led military against Haftar and the Russians, which could well turn Libya into another US Vietnam, with the same ultimate outcome as this war had.

And what concerns me, is that those in the Bowels of Power in this country appear to be sleepwalking into this trap, just as blissfully as did the US government in World War I.

One of the most brilliant films about war ever to have been made, is the 2nd Robert Downey Jr./Jude Law film about Sherlock Holmes; the title is "A Game of Shadows", and if you have not seen it, I urge you to do so, because it talks in very plain language, about just how regional wars like this get fanned, until they become world wars; this is the potential impact of Al Assad throwing his geopolitical fortunes with Russia, in supporting Haftar in Libya.

Erdogan’s Dance of Death With NATO

Although the evidence is murky, it appears that both Russian and Syrian jet fighters took part in the Feb. 27 attack on a Turkish mechanized infantry battalion consisting of roughly 400 soldiers. According to an account in Al-Monitor, two Syrian Sukhoi SU-22 pounded the convoy, forcing the troops to take cover. But then a pair of Russian Sukhoi SU-34s dropped advanced laser-guided bunker-buster bombs on two roadside buildings where Turkish forces had taken shelter, burying them in the rubble.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And the US government has responded accordingly, according to an article in msn.com, datelined today:U.S. promises Turkey ammunition for Syria's Idlib battle

The article goes on to state:

U.S. promises Turkey ammunition for Syria's Idlib battle

The United States is willing to give NATO ally Turkey ammunition alongside humanitarian assistance in northwestern Syria where Ankara is in a deepening standoff with Russia, the U.S. special representative for the region said on Tuesday. Lucy Fielder reports."

As I have mentioned on this site many times before, just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government can do, is no guarantee that it will not do it; I am very concerned that President Trump may well rue the day he and his Cabinet decided that this was the "right way" of handling Erdogan's "military misadventures" in Syria.

Iran steps up coronavirus efforts as 23 MPs said to be infected: Plans to mobilise 300,000 soldiers and volunteers as number of cases passes 2,000

Iran has announced plans to mobilise 300,000 soldiers and volunteers against the deadliest outbreak of the coronavirus outside China, as state television quoted an MP as saying 23 members of parliament were infected.

On Tuesday, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader, ordered the country’s armed forces to assist health officials in combating the outbreak.

“Whatever helps public health and prevents the spread of the disease is good and what helps to spread it is sin,” Khamenei said, as the deputy health minister, Alireza Raeisi, reported more infections and a death toll of 77.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I need to ask some painfully honest questions here; the populations hit the hardest by this pandemic, China, and Iran, are very prominent members of the US government and military's "regime change" targets.

Is it at all possible, that the Coronavirus was of US origin, and smuggled into China and Iran as "viral/biological WMDS" to attempt to make "regime change" in these two intractable nations become achieved more easily than it would have been through other methods, like massive wars against them?!?

And before people scream at me that the US government and military would "never do this", I would like to politely remind them that there were a wealth of diseases weaponized for World War II, and in its aftermath:

The United States biological weapons program began in 1943. It was replaced by the United States biological defense program.

Folks, the US government and military have been doing this for over 77 years; they have a lot of experience with this kind of work, and right now, I cannot bet against this possibility.

Bloomberg tells AIPAC he'll 'never impose conditions' on military aid to Israel

Former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg on Monday pledged to support Israel’s security and constrain Iran’s nuclear program at the annual pro-Israel AIPAC summit in Washington, while also criticizing Sen. Bernie Sanders for boycotting the annual event, which has been a lightning rod in the 2020 Democratic primary.

Bloomberg was the only 2020 Democratic presidential candidate to attend the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Conference in Washington, a move criticized by progressives and some Democrats not aligned with the group's views.

“I can’t tell you how glad I am to be at AIPAC,” he said. "Israel is small, we know, but resilient, and surrounded by adversaries. And if you caught the last couple of presidential debates you know that I can empathize."

MORE: Bloomberg criticizes Trump’s response to coronavirus as he launches campaign blitz ahead of Super Tuesday

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation from Bloombergese into English; "I will allow Israeli full, unfettered and free rein to "play picador" in the Middle East, until it gets into a fight it cannot win on its own, and then expend American troops to clean up after Israel, no matter the cost in blood and money!

And hey, invading Iran, even if Russia has pledged to support it in the case of a US invasion of it, Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If the U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Saysis no big deal!!"

Mayor Bloomberg, a word, please; there are moments when US and Israeli objectives align in the Middle East, and times when they most assuredly do NOT align; this last, and thoroughly irresponsible statement, indicates to both American voters, and the rest of the world, that you are hard-pressed to understand the difference here, and are infinitely more inclined to support Israel, no matter if it is completely wrong in its premise to wage whatever wars they feel are critical, at any given point in time, than supporting an even-handed approach to the region's politics.

Exit polls: 59 seats to Netanyahu's right-wing bloc

Highest turnout in 21 years appears to have worked in Netanyahu's favor as he claims right to form government; all three exit polls predict Gantz's Blue & White losing significant ground to ruling Likud
Ynet|
Updated: 03.03.20 , 02:08

Voting in Israel's Election Day ended at 10pm Tuesday with the three main television exit polls predicting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party will likely claim significantly more seats than Benny Gantz's Blue & White party but with the right-wing bloc still two seats short of a parliamentary majority.

An initial prediction from the three channels of 60 seats to the right-wing bloc was amended by all 59 seats as the night went on.
According to the public broadcaster KAN, Likud has won 36 seats, while the Blue & White has won 33 seats. Channel 12 (Keshet) had Likud on 37 seats and Blue & White on 32. According to Channel 13, Likud will win 37 seats and Blue & White 34 seats.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problems here are, that without some kind of coalition, and plurality with Gantz's"Blue & White Party", Netanyahu's win yesterday, makes Israel no more governable than before the election started, because the rivalry between Netanyahu's party, and Gantz's, never got resolved.

We will see if there is any resolution in the near future, but given both mens' penchants for hubris, you could see Israel at war with any of her regional neighbors in a heartbeat.

Turkey shoots down two Syrian war planes and destroys 100 tanks as it launches military offensive against Moscow-backed regime after airstrike that killed 34 of its soldiers

Turkish defence minister Hulusi Akar announced the operation - dubbed 'Spring Shield' - today and vowed that any attack on Turkish forces or observation posts in Idlib would be met with retaliation under the country's right to self defence.

Tensions between Ankara and Damascus were blown ski high on Thursday after the Assad regime targeted Turkish soldiers in Northern Syria. Turkey's relationship with Moscow was also strained today as three Russian journalists were detained in Istanbul.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the country had 'opened its doors', causing an estimated 76,000 migrants to head for its borders with the EU, on Friday after criticisms of Syria from its EU allies were not forthcoming. The US expressed concern and a NATO meeting was also called.

SYRIA - DEADLY BOMB STRIKE WARNS TURKEY TO END ITS ESCAPADES

SOURCE: MOON OF ALABAMA
The last three days of the Idleb campaign were quite eventful.

The Turkey supported Jihadis threw everything they had against Saraqib where the M4 and M5 highways join. This enabled the Syrian army to take some 40 towns and cities at the southern front. The whole Ghab plain is now in liberated and the frontline has been massively shortened.

Saraqib fell to the Jihadis but they paid a very bloody price for it as the Syrian and Russian air force continued to intensively bomb the approaches to the city. A new defensive line has now been established around Saraqib and the Syrian army is preparing to recover it.

To take the large area in the south in difficult terrain and against little resistance was more important than the temporary loss of Saraqib.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to hope and pray that someone besides Erdogan, in Ankara, is reading the tea leaves here, and understands - fully - what has to happen, which is a total and complete withdrawal of Turkish troops from Syria, and as immediately as humanly possible.

Angering Russia in this way was one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid things Erdogan could have done here, to the point where Moscow believed that the only remedy for Turkey's aggression, was a retaliation of this magnitude.

I would like to hope (and pray) that Edrogan is capable of learning from his mistakes, but am unsure how this will translate into Turkey's future policy on Syria and Russia.

Even NATO is unwilling to touch Turkey’s Idlib mess with a ten-foot pole

Having been hit by the Syrian Air Force in Idlib, Turkey has called on NATO’s protection, but as much as the alliance would like a fight with Assad and his ally Russia, it’s refused to back Ankara’s questionable adventure.
Turkey engaged NATO in Article 4 consultations, seeking help regarding the crisis in Syria. The meeting produced a statement from NATO condemning the actions of Russia and Syria and advocating for humanitarian assistance, but denying Turkey the assistance it sought.

A failed gamble

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is painfully obvious, that Erdogan did not due his "due dilligence" with NATO, of which Turkey is a member, to sound out potential support for this military misadventure, which is on track to be one of the most miserable epic fails in Turkey's contemporary history, before he decided to send in troops.

The next Turkish Parliamentary elections are scheduled in about 3 years from now. Turkish General Elections Scheduled for 2023.

IF Edrogan keeps writing geopolitical checks his military is unable to cash, this pathologically "bad behaviour" on his part may well sour the Turkish electorate on him; cause the voting public to go back to a Parliamentary system of elections; and find someone else who will care enough about the Turkish people and its military to not put them in harm's way like this.

And now, we have a related story, from rt.com, with the following headline:
Turkey & Syria on brink of WAR in Idlib: How did it come to this?

I am hoping (and praying) that Russia's collective general level head will continue to prevail, but it all depends on how hard Erdogan, and his military, are willing to push back here.

Erdogan has been very much behaving like the human version of a loose cannon, ever since the 2016 attempted coup in Turkey; I am seriously hoping that there has got to be a point, where he has to realize what harm he is bringing to both his people, and his military; but in looking at his current behaviour, relative to Syria, I am not so certain that we are going to see a change in the behaviour which brought Turkey into Syria in the first place.

European Nightmare As Turkey "Opens The Gates" On Refugees While Covid-19 Ravages Nearby Iran

As coronavirus ravages Iran and threatens to spread through the broader Middle East, potentially hitting refugee and war-torn populations hardest, it appears Erdogan is now making good on prior threats to "open the gates" of a flood of refugees on Europe. On Friday top Turkish officials were quoted as saying Turkey has no choice but to "loosen" its stance on the some 3.4 million refugees it is hosting.

This was the immediate, and perhaps predictable reaction, to Thursday's dramatic escalation involving the deaths of some 33 Turkish soldiers in Idlib via airstrike, in the single deadliest day for Turkey in Syria throughout the entirety of the war. Widespread early reports said it was a Russian strike, but in a sign that Ankara doesn't want to confront the more formidable Russian Air Force, it has blamed Syrian forces.

Turkey has announced it has opened its until now sealed border with Idlib for at least 72 hours, and will allow unhindered passage of refugees to Europe.

U.N.'s Bachelet urges Saudi to release women activists, uphold rights

- U.N. human rights chief Michelle Bachelet urged Saudi Arabia on Thursday to uphold freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly and review convictions of activists, religious leaders and journalists as it prepares to host a G20 summit this year.

Bachelet, in a speech to the U.N. Human Rights Council, called on Riyadh to release several Saudi women activists jailed for demanding “reforms of discriminatory policies”.

“I also call for full transparency in the ongoing judicial proceedings, and comprehensive accountability, regarding the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi,” she added, referring to the U.S.-based journalist killed by Saudi agents at its Istanbul consulate in October 2018

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good luck on THAT, my dear!

The only way this will change, is for all Saudi women for whom it is possible, to immigrate out of the country; cause birth rates to plunge; and cause men to be unable to find wives, at any possible bride price.

That ... is the only thing which may, over time, cause the Saudi stance on women to begin to soften somewhat.

Because right now, women are considered "useful", only as creators of children for their families; and do not get me wrong, this is vital if a society is going to grow, and prosper.

But that being said, if there was ever a country where a middle eastern version of "Stepford Wives" might be possibly and potentially, already in the works, it would be Saudi Arabia, because of their government's consistent denial of basic human rights for women.

Oh, and let's not forget the potential cloning of children here, when the birth rate plunges below zero; one has to wonder if Saudi Arabia has already borrowed a page from China's gene/birth manipulation process, to produce their own version of "super babies", because women do not want to bear children, given the unbelievably restrictive set of policies by the Saudi government against women Saudi nationals.

2,500 US Troops Now Stationed in Saudi Arabia to ‘Deter’ Iran

Al-Qaeda was very publicly using the presence of US ground troops in Saudi Arabia as a recruiting tool in the period around 9/11. Suggesting that many lessons have not been learned, some 2,500 US troops are back in the kingdom, and readying for a long stay.

Hype surrounding military tensions with Iran are driving this US deployment back into the region. More and more ground troops are being sent every time there is even a little tension, nominally to “deter” Iran from attacking the Saudi kingdom.

These deployments began in earnest when Yemen’s Houthis fired at missile at Saudi oil producing regions, and the Saudis blamed Iran for it. US military tensions in Iraq led to many more troops being sent, since Iraq made clear they didn’t want more US troops there, and the US wanted them somewhere near Iran.

US hostility toward Iran isn’t getting better, so a decision to leave seems unlikely.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please; the leadership of Iran may be many things, but one of them, sir, is NOT overtly stupid; they understand that any attack directly against Saudi Arabia will translate into a US attack against it which would leave the country a radioactive puddle of oozing glass and concrete.

So who, in the region, might be the likely culprit for a false flag attack against Saudi Arabia, to be blamed against Iran?!?

In a word sir, one of your BFFs in the Middle East, and the guy who is fighting back for his political life, struggling against corruption charges, and a new election next month; and yes, that person would be... (drum roll, please) none other than Bibi Netanyahu.

And if you think, for a millisecond, Mr. President, that Netanyahu would not order such a strike, to attempt to save his own skin, you are horrifically mistaken; Netanyahu, right now is, and has been, a geopolitically wounded animal, between the corruption charges, and twice having been unable to form a new government.

Geopolitically wounded candidates are the most dangerous.

And would he inform you about such a false flag strike before it happened?!?

Mr. President, in order to inflict maximum world geopolitical shock at such an act, to be blamed ultimately on Iran, I doubt like hell this is going to happen, and you have now positioned US troops in Saudi Arabia as absolute "sitting ducks" for such an attack.

Mr. President, I care about our troops; many of them come very much from families like mine - middle class, who believe that service to their country, is an honor, which I also believe.

But sir, Israeli elections will start to be held on this Monday, 2 March
.
Please keep a close eye on your BFF Netanyahu throughout this process; his internal polls may suggest that he needs something terrifying substantive to happen pull people together to support him, and an alleged Iranian attack against Saudi Arabia may just be what he chooses, to galvanize his base around him.

Russian Airstrikes Kill at Least 34 Turkish Soldiers in Syria

Weeks of threats by Turkish President Erdogan to retake Syria’s Idlib Province by force went extremely poorly on Thursday, when Turkish forces moved into an observation post south of Idlib City, and were immediately hammered by airstrikes from both Russia and Syria.

At least 34 Turkish soldiers were reported killed in this strike, a major number of casualties. Turkey’s Hatay Governor reported casualties were still flowing into his province from Idlib.

Turkey has put thousands of troops in Idlib recently, and Erdogan had promised to reclaim all 10 of the observation posts, while ultimately expelling Syria from Idlib. They negotiated with Russia on getting Syria to surrender, but that failed.

Turkey seemed to be under the assumption that they could overrun Syria’s military, still taxed by a long civil war, with little problem.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And we have a companion piece to this, also from antiwar.com, with the following headline: Turkey Set for Lone War as US Dismisses Idea of Reentry:
Esper: I don't see any likelihood that we would be back

The article goes on to state: "Turkey’s repeated escalations in Syria’s Idlib Province came at least in part with US officials endorsing them and the idea of confronting Russia. But as Turkey risks blowing this up into a whole new war, it’s a war that they’ll be fighting alone.

US officials are making clear they aren’t considering joining the war in any real way. Defense Secretary Mark Esper in particular said that 'I don’t see any likelihood that we would be back along the border.'

There were few reasons to think the US would want to get sucked back into a war in Syria, particularly one against Russia. This is likely informing Turkey, in the recent flare-up, were trying to play this up as a fight against the Assad government, and not Russia.

That makes sense, of course, because Turkey’s military is in a decent position to fight a one-on-one conflict with war-weary Syria over Idlib Province. Fighting Russia is something else entirely, especially with the US not interested in getting sucked in."

IF Edrogan thought for one second, that his position was secure in Syria, because the US military would be coming to his aid, he really mis-read the tea-leaves here, to the point of being utterly dead-wrong.

I hope that his supporters in Turkey understand that this hairbrained campaign was utterly not in their best interests, and although I do not believe that Turkish law has any equivalency to the US's 25th Amendment, I hope (and pray) that the Turkish people get disillusioned with their current national leadership in a way which will leave room for cooler heads to prevail on the stage of international geopolitics, the next time there is a national election.

Speaking at the Ma'ariv Business Conference 2030 in Herzliya, Lieberman said: "Gantz and Netanyahu together reached 65 seats [in the last election], and I told them to form a government, but they preferred to argue over who would be first and who would be second," Lieberman said.

"There is no more unity government. It's clear that nothing can be built with those two, so we're preparing ourselves," the former defense chief added. "We're ready for the day after the election. We will have 61 Knesset seats without Netanyahu, Dery and Litzman," referring to the heads of the two ultra-Orthodox parties, Shas and United Torah Judaism.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, come 2 March; but looking at how Netanyahu has positioned himself here, particularly with the approval of the E1 Settlement Netanyahu approves new settlement units in E1, one week before the election, I would not count him out just yet.

Erdogan Says Turkey Will Risk Everything to Expel Syria From Idlib: Says Syria will be ousted from Turkish posts this week

urkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised Turkey will risk “all kinds of sacrifices” in its upcoming military conflict with Syria, promising to see Syria ousted from Idlib Province, and not accepting the smallest step back.

Erdogan in particular is focusing on wanting to reclaim military posts ion Syrian territory, but it’s clear his war is going to go beyond that, as he’s repeatedly talked of retaking towns for the rebels.

Erdogan has said the offensive is still coming this week, with the goal of having all the posts reconquered by week’s end. That’s very ambitious, particularly with Russia backing Syria. Thousands of Turkish troops are in Idlib in anticipation of this fight.

A lot of this depends on how willing Turkey is to take this fight into a full-scale war, with the risk of Russian involvement looming large.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What Erdogan is threatening to do, is only completely in-your-face insane, if he doesn't have the covert, and full assurance of the Trump administration to support him in these efforts, as another ploy to regime change Damascus, and Turkish troops are now the US "proxies" in Syria for so doing, at least for the time being.

Just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government and military could do, is utterly no guarantee that they will not try to do it; a US war against Russia in Syria could well be one of the worst military catastrophes in which the US could find itself potentially enmeshed, and this may well be upon us, before some adults in the bowels of power in DC have the ability to prevent it.

Coronavirus in the Middle East: A country by country guide

Countries across the Middle East have begun recording more and more coronavirus cases, and scrambling for a response.

The outbreak of coronavirus - officially known as COVID-19 - originated in China in December, where it has reportedly killed more than 2,500 people.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) reported in February that 80 percent of COVID-19 cases report only mild, flu-like symptoms, and just 2 percent of cases have resulted in death. While COVID-19 has a much lower death rate than epidemics of similar viruses such as SARS or MERS, it has spread far wider.

Overt Trump Regime Support for Al-Qaeda Offshoots in Syria, ISIS-Daesh Et Al are Pentagon/CIA Proxies

Both right wings of the US war party support ISIS, Al-Qaeda, its offshoots, and likeminded terrorist groups in Syria and other countries where their fighters are deployed as Pentagon/CIA proxy troops.

Instead of explaining reality on the ground in US war theaters, establishment media blame nations victimized by its aggression for high crimes committed against them.

Syria is Exhibit A, US aggression ignored, government forces, greatly aided by Russian airpower, vilified for liberating cities, towns and villages from US-supported “jihadists” — what’s currently ongoing in Idlib province, the last stronghold in the country of these elements.

On Monday, Trump’s envoy for regime change in Syria James Jeffrey indirectly expressed support for Hayat Tahrir al-Sham — the al-Qaeda offshoot al-Nusra by another name.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Once you realize that this is all about fossil fuel; the control of it, and the selling of it only in American dollars, does the American position of utilizing terrorists to further their objectives in the region become crystal clear.

Musical Chairs in the White House

On the job training in the intelligence community.

Donald Trump’s latest appointment, guided purely by malevolence, is, however, in another category completely, even in an administration where bullheaded ignorance is considered a virtue. Rick Grenell, currently the United States Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, is completely unqualified to be Director of National Intelligence (DNI), where he would be the nominal head of the entire intelligence community (IC), 17 organizations including the Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency and National Reconnaissance Office.

USA IS PULLING NUKES OUT OF TURKEY

SOURCE: THE DURAN
As reported earlier, Air Mobility Command’s C-17A Globemaster III arrived at Incerlik AB, Turkey from Sicily, Italy on February, 20 as part of US-led exercise Defender Europe 2020, Air Mobility Command officials said.

Five more C-17A Globemasters III arrived to Incerlik AB from Ramstein Air Base on February, 21. Our sources at Incerlik AB confirm that the presence of five additional transport aircraft is a clear evidence of getting the whole bulk of nukes (that are currently stored at Incerlik AB amid tensions in Syria) out to Germany, Poland and one of the Baltic states. Five nuclear bombs are to be transported to Poland and one of the Baltic states accordingly with the rest of the stock to be delivered to Germany.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My question is, why now?!?

An attempted Turkish coup happened in 2016, and senior officials in the Obama White House knew... that the continued presence of these nuclear nuclear weapons, was going to be a problem, for the US and for NATO.

The Attempted Turkish Coup, 2016

I have to wonder just what the "quid pro quo" issue may have been, and what President Trump may have said to Erdogan, to get him to go along with this deal about removing those nuclear weaons; did he promise, after the ground work was laid, for a "larger Turkish military presence" be "tolerated" by the US in Syria?!? Did he promise that US forces would be fighting Russia and Syria over this contested area?!?

Only time will solve this mystery.

MAJOR: Saudis Transfer Hundreds Of Al-Qaeda Terrorists To Yemen

The Saudi-led coalition has transferred hundreds of al-Qaeda terrorists to Ma’arib province in northern Yemen as a desperate measure in an attempt to hold the area for as long as possible. The Wahhabi kingdom and its coalition partners have recently suffered a series of defeats in Yemen.

How the ‘Interpreter’ Scam Brought 75,000 Iraqis and Afghans to America

One fact about all empires. The Homeland becomes over run by foreigners. Happens to every empire and helps to destroy it.

The latest battle over Special Immigrant Visas pitted Stephen Miller, President Trump’s senior advisor, against the Pentagon. The military brass was lobbying for 6,000 special immigrant visas for Iraqis who worked for American forces in the country. These visas were once again billed as helping “interpreters”.

That’s a lot of interpreters considering that there were only 5,200 American troops in Iraq.

How could there be more Iraqi interpreters for American troops than there are troops?

(Russian?) Warplanes Drop Bombs Next to Turkish Column in Syria, Force It to Halt Advance

Most of the 7,000-strong Turkish force in al-Qaeda-held northwestern Syria is concentrated just to the east of Idlib city to block the advance of the Syrian army toward the biggest city (and only provincial capital) still in rebel hands.

Yesterday Turkey attempted to change that and dispatched a force southward, to try to establish a bigger presence in the southern part of the Idlib pocket, where the Syrians had just started the second phase of their offensive (and already took a couple of villages).

However, as the Turkish column was underway it came under attack — according to SOHR by “regime artillery fire”. Except that in the video of the incident you can clearly hear jets:

Turkey, So Much We Aren’t Being Told

Iran is deeply resentful of the US and the assassination of Soleimani, particularly since the New York Times article that has made the actions on the part of the US so much more serious than simply the murder of a high-ranking perceived enemy. From the New York Times, February 14, 2020:

“Washington ordered the assassination of top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani to sabotage de-escalation talks between Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates following a report by Israel’s Mossad spy agency, according to the New York Times.

The paper reported on Thursday that General Soleimani had been arranging talks in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates in order to de-escalate tensions with Tehran.

Saudi Arabia Says It Intercepted Several Missiles From Yemen

Saudi Arabia’s state media has reported that they intercepted several missiles Friday which were fired from northern Yemen. They say the missiles were deliberately aimed at civilians, accusing the Houthis of turning the Yemeni capital of Sanaa into a hub for missiles.

The Houthis confirmed their strikes, saying they hit targets in Saudi Arabia “with precision” and that Saudi Aramco was struck. Aramco made no comments on the incident, and Saudi reports similarly made no mention of them being hit.

In the past, successful Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have been blamed more or less entirely on Iran. Saudi coalition officials this time are trying to emphasize the Houthi “threat” to civilians to justify the ongoing war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Saudis need to stop attempting to position themselves as "a force for good" in Yemen, when they are methodically slaughtering infants; toddlers; children; women; and the medically fragile elderly, then attempting to blame the Houthis for these assassinations.

It's not working; even the American people are awake enough to understand who the "bad guy" is here, and that ... is saying something.

As Turkey Escalates Syria Fight, Growing Pressure for US to Get InvolvedTurkey wants US warplanes, Patriot missiles in Idlib

Turkey continues to step up fighting in northern Syria, running up against Russian forces, and giving the appearance of an imminent war in the Idlib Province. Turkey’s willingness to escalate seems to have been picked up by US encouragement, and now Turkey seems to be leading the call to get the US dragged into this conflict as well.

US interests in the Idlib Province are virtually non-existent. Any US-backed rebels that were once there have been wiped out, or aligned to some Islamist group long ago. Arguments for intervention are that Idlib is becoming a flashpoint between Russia and Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: Turkey, looking at its battered and flagging options in Syria, against Syrian and Russian military push-back, wants war between the US and Russia in Syria.

And we have a companion piece on this issue, also from anti-war.com,featuring the following headline: As Syria’s War Escalates, Growing Risks of Regional Turmoil:
Conflict increasingly centered around major foreign actors

The article goes on to state: "This week of fighting in northeastern Syria saw a disturbing escalation, with Turkey bringing itself more directly into the war, and several other foreign powers at risk of being dragged in as well.

Turkey’s commitment to prevent Syria from winning the war has threatened to turn this into a border war, and there are a lot of regional interests that could be involved. Russia has warned Turkey away and almost certainly is going to limit how far Turkey can go before they directly intervene to stop them.

That’s already a substantial fight, and with Turkey trying to get the US directly involved in this part of Syria, it could kick off direct military confrontation between the US and Russia. The US has been publicly endorsing Turkey’s action, but it remains to be seen if they’ll get themselves drawn into a war over it."

Unfortunately, just because something is the most monumentally ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government and military could possibly do, is utterly no guarantee that the US will not do it.

I am quite certain that one of the world's best "Trump Whisperers", Bibi Netanyahu, facing one of the most contentious political fights for his life, come the Israeli elections in early March, is "encouraging" Trump to take this idiotic step, toward "regime change" in Damascus, no matter even if it will mean war with Russia, even though the US military is woefully unprepared, under-staffed, and dealing with inferior weaponry, in attempting such a task.

Mr. President: I am respectfully requesting that you NOT commit to a war in Syria at this time. Our military is stretched to the limit with regard to personnel; there is no money, no manufacturing, and no real weaponry advantage we have over the Russian military at this time, and anyone with any horse-sense on this issue, will tell you so, no matter how angry that will probably make you at this time.

And if what I am telling you regarding the status of the US military is the butt-ugly truth right now, (and sir, forgive me, but it is), you have a national, and moral, obligation to fix it: please do so, and right the hell now.

You are welcome, Mr. President.
