Terrified Sana'a residents say: 'The bodies are starting to fill the streets'

Yemenis in Sana'a have taken to social media as the city comes under air strikes from Saudi Arabia and its anti-Houthi alliance allies.

Residents described a city that was not expecting conflict and has little infrastructure to deal with it, as bombs level houses and kill civilians on the ground.

They report long lines for fuel and the sound of gunfire, with one Twitter user @amera_al_5581, saying they received a text from a friend in Yemen, saying: "The sound of bullets can be heard clearly...[he says] bodies have started to fill the streets. Prayers for your brothers".

The Moderate Axis Attacking Axis of Resistance in Yemen

Saudi Arabia and four other Gulf states, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, together with Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Sudan launched a military operation against Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

Adel al-Jubair, Saudi ambassador to the US, said on Wednesday that a coalition consisting of 10 countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), had begun airstrikes at 7pm Eastern time.

Houthis captured city of Aden in the south after military confrontations with GCC-backed president Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who fled later on to Oman.

Top US diplomat "commended the work of the coalition taking military action against the Houthis" and noted Washington's support "including intelligence sharing, targeting assistance, and advisory and logistical support for strikes against Houthi targets," the State Department official said.

Saudi Arabia Imposes Naval Blockade On Red Sea Strait, Deploys 150,000 Troops As Iran Condemns Military Action

As noted earlier, the biggest significance of any Yemen conflict has little to do with its own domestic oil production, which at 133,000 bpd is negligible, but due to its location, which not only shares a border with Saudi Arabia, but more importantly due to the Bab el-Mandeb strait which connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden: it is the fourth-biggest shipping chokepoint in the world by volume (3.8 million barrels a day of oil and petroleum products flowed through it in 2013) and is just 18 miles wide at its narrowest point. It’s located between Yemen, Djibouti, and Eritrea, and connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. And since to Saudi Arabia preserving the logistics of oil supply is critical, it is hardly surprising that as Egypt's Ahram Gate reported earlier, the Saudi-led Firmness Storm coalition imposed a naval blockade on Bab El-Mandab strait earlier today. The Saudi navy's western fleet has also secured Yemen's main ports including Aden and Midi.

Bibi Wins with Racism and Revoked Promise

Reality crashed down on those who had hoped the March 17 Knesset elections might lead to a more moderate future Israeli leadership.

The election returns brought the news, Benjamin Netanyahu had won again.

He won in large part by revoking his earlier pledge to support a Palestinian state, and by using last-hour racist warnings to bring out hard right voters.

“Something like scales” must be made to fall from the eyes of the American public which has been endorsing, funding and supporting a brutal military occupation for almost five decades. How will that be accomplished?

OIL SURGES, GOLD AND SILVER SPIKE AS SAUDI ARABIA BOMBS YEMEN

Geopolitical tensions escalated dramatically over night as Saudi Arabia launched military operations including air strikes in Yemen. The Saudis claim the action is to counter Iran-allied forces besieging the southern city of Aden where the U.S. backed Yemeni president had taken refuge. Oil surged and gold rose nearly 2% following a sharp drop in stocks on Wall Street globally in response to the bombing in Yemen.

Conference Program to Scrutinize Israel Lobby on April 10 at National Press Club

Conference organizers are the American Educational Trust, publisher of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, and the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy.

This unprecedented gathering will focus on the Israel lobby in America. How big is it? How fast has it grown? How interconnected are the organizations and individuals? How much revenue does it raise and where does the money go? What are the common objectives of the lobby? What laws apply to lobbying to benefit a foreign government and are they vigorously enforced? Do coordinated campaign contributions cause American policymakers to act more on behalf of Israel than the United States? What fallacies underlie the assertions that U.S. and Israeli interests are the same? What are the Israel lobby’s public and private, short-and-medium-term policy objectives? And what can Americans who do not believe pro-Israel slogans, activities and policy objectives do?

The Roots of Netanyahu’s Electoral Victory: Colonial Expansion and Fascist Ideology

Netanyahu has established the fact that Israel and its people embrace a racist ideology and receive the endorsement of most Western leaders, and mass media and the unconditional support of its overseas fifth column.

There is no question that the majority of Israeli Jewish leaders and parties support Netanyahu’s racist pronouncements and ‘no-state’ solution and joined him in a coalition government. But the larger issue is the positive mass response to Netanyahu’s call to action. Nearly three quarters of the electorate turned out (73%) to elect him. Moreover, Netanyahu has been elected prime minister for four terms: between 1996-99 and more recently 2009-20.

What is more, the opposition has not differed from the Netanyahu coalition regime’s Judeo-centric policies and pronouncements. In other words, ‘racist’ ideology per se is not what drives the Israeli majority to repeatedly support Netanyahu.

Cracks in US-Israel alliance revealed

Is this the week that the US-Israeli relationship began to implode?

On Monday, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough threw down the gauntlet: “An occupation that has lasted for almost 50 years must end.” The statement was a pointed rebuke to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who won re-election last week running on a no-Palestinian-state platform. McDonough added that Netanyahu's obstructionism was "so very troubling."

Bibi vows to prevent Iran-West nuclear agreement

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again vowed to do his utmost to prevent a nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

On Wednesday, Netanyahu reiterated his earlier claims about the ongoing negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear work.

“We will continue to act to prevent the emerging [nuclear] agreement with Iran -- an agreement which will endanger us, our neighbors and the world," said the Israeli premier after meeting with the regime’s president, Reuven Rivlin.

This is while a new round of ministerial talks over Iran's nuclear program is scheduled to kick off on March 26 in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

Breaking News - Saudi Arabia starts bombing Yemen - envoy

Saudi Arabian forces, joined by nine other countries, have launched a military operation in Yemen against Shiite Houthi rebels, the Saudi ambassador to the US said. The offensive, which started with airstrikes, will also involve “other military assets.”

According to Ambassador Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, the military operation in Yemen started at 7 p.m. EST (11 p.m. GMT). The US is not participating in the operation, the envoy stressed.

Al Arabiya reported that warplanes of the Royal Saudi Air Force bombed positions of Yemen’s Houthi militia, targeting their air defenses.

Another Middle East War Breaks Out: US-Supported Saudi Arabia Begins Bombing Yemen

UPDATE: US providing support to Saudi Arabia - US Official (so US weapons are being used on both sides)

Earlier today we reported that, on very short notice, Saudi Arabia had moved heavy military equipment including artillery to areas near its border with Yemen, "raising the risk that the Middle East’s top oil power will be drawn into the worsening Yemeni conflict." In other words, Saudi Arabia was preparing for war. Moments ago all these warnings were borne out when Al-Arabiya reported that the latest middle-east war is now official after Saudi Arabia and Arab Gulf States had launched a bombing campaign against Yemen.

Bibi Wins with Racism and Revoked Promise

He won in large part by revoking his earlier pledge to support a Palestinian state, and by using last-hour racist warnings to bring out hard right voters.

Because Netanyahu’s Likud party won the largest number of seats (30) in the new Israeli parliament (120 total), he will play the major role in organizing the next government.

Even liberal Zionist Thomas Friedman had to acknowledge that Netanyahu won with “dirty” politics and the use of “dog-whistle” language. Friedman wrote in his New York Times column that “You cannot win that dirty and just walk away like nothing has happened”.

Is Netanyahu Behind the Massacre in Tunis?

Is Israeli intelligence behind the massacre in Tunis? Ask yourself, why would Tunisians commit such a monstrous atrocity that harms no one - but Tunisia? Cui bono?

The senseless terrorist attack on innocent civilians at the Bardo Museum in Tunis, in fact, bolstered no one except Benjamin Netanyahu, whose duplicity had been utterly exposed the day before the attack - when he was re-elected to head the Zionist state that occupies Palestine.

No group had even claimed responsibility for the murderous attack on tourists visiting the Bardo National Museum in Tunis until the Israeli website, SITE Intelligence Group, "interpreted" the terrorist attack for the Western media - and blamed Islamic State - the following day.

The Israeli interpretation, from Mossad's SITE, of the attack in Tunis could have come straight out of one of Netanyahu's books from the 1980s about "Fighting Terrorism."

Cuba – Between a Rock and a Hard Place

On 17 December 2014, President Obama declared that 55 years of embargo didn’t work in bringing ‘freedom’ to Cuba. He proposed reestablishing diplomatic relations with the southern neighbor. An emotion of joy shook the world, especially Latin America. Raul Castro received wires and calls of congratulations. Cubans cheered “we won, we won!” – The US Congress right wing was not quite ready for this initiative and, indeed, there was no concrete mention of how and when the ‘blockade’ would be lifted.

Two days after Obama’s bold initiative, on 19 December 2015, he went to the Washington Press Club to tell a horde of puppet journalists, conservative politicians and onlookers that soft measures, like reestablishing diplomatic relations with Havana might be more successful in bringing the desired regime change to Cuba than more years of isolation. He couldn’t have been more direct and more honest about his intention. The Cuban Government and whoever else listened didn’t miss the point.

The Iron Law of Oligarchy Returns

The death of Danny Schechter, “the News Dissector,” at age 72 from cancer marks a sad moment for independent journalism. Schechter’s was a strong voice against the empty platitudes and blatant hypocrisies that have come to define modern American media and politics, as he explained in an article last year.

The word “Oligarchy” has finally come home. For years, it was a term only used in connection with those big bad and sleazy Mafioso-type businessmen in Russia. Russia had Oligarchs; we didn’t. That became a big difference between the official narrative of what separated our “land of the free and the home of the brave” from “them” in the post-Soviet period.

Operation Rent Seeking How the war on terrorism became a business model.

The syndrome the Bush administration created in Iraq was what former Pentagon critic Chuck Spinney has called a “self-licking ice cream cone”: the measures to fight the war on terrorism guaranteed more terrorists, which in turn guaranteed the agencies more money to fight the war on terrorism. It is a great business model for contractors and bureaucratic empire builders, but far less favorable as a national survival strategy.

One searches in vain for any detailed and highly competent writings or speeches on foreign policy, given by Obama, that go beyond idealistic platitudes, ever how souring the rhetoric.

Do not expect any significant progress engendered by the Obama administration for the rest of his term.

If there is to be any change in the configuration between the Palestinians and the Israelis, it will emanate from the International Court of Justice.

Netanyahu Unmasks Israel

For years, U.S. politicians have rejected allegations of Israeli racism and excused mistreatment of the Palestinians as a temporary necessity that would be fixed by a two-state solution. But Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has destroyed those arguments in his panic to keep his job, reports Robert Parry.

The Saker interviews Gilad Atzmon

It has been already 6 years since I interviewed Gilad for the first time and when a friend recently suggested that it was time for a new conversation, I immediately agreed, as did Gilad who, in spite of his over-booked and hectic lifestyle took the time to reply to my questions. Gilad is, in my opinion, not only the most original and talented jazz musician currently composing and playing (make sure to get his latest CD “The Whistle Blower“), he is also an extremely profound philosopher who has the amazing courage not only to ask the key questions, but to also answer them. His book “The Wandering Who” is, I strongly believe, a must read for anybody wanting to see through the “fog” of modern “Jewish anti-Zionism”. As somebody who has gotten his share of hate mail, I can only begin to imagine the kind of hate-filled poison which Gilad has had to put up with for his courage and even though he will not speak about it, I will say that it takes exceptional courage and moral strength to do what Gilad did and is still doing.

The Rats are POURING out of DC’s Sinking Ship

As many here know, the East has been trying to formulate its banking alternatives for its member states these past several years. This is of monumental importance to Eurasian alliances, because without a network of lending institutions of their own, they’ve often been at the (lack of) mercy of the Western banking powers. For several years now, Eastern alliances such as the BRICS, have made a great deal of progress on this front.

That progress has been met with fear and loathing from DC and London, as previously, they’ve enjoyed the perks from being the world’s predatory lender through institutions like the World Bank and IMF.

During the last week however, while many of us weren’t looking, some very interesting developments have been taking place on the “grand chessboard”!

Israel likely headed toward conflict, isolation

Benjamin Netanyahu’s apparent re-election puts Israel on a course toward ever deeper confrontation with the world. To govern, his Likud Party would need to depend on ultranationalists – a recipe for neither stability nor bold moves toward Middle East peace.

White House pushes Palestinian statehood in face of Netanyahu win

The White House says that a two-state solution is still the best way to resolve the dispute in the Middle East, Israeli Prime Minister’s Benjamin Netanyahu promise this week to prevent further establishment of a Palestinian state notwithstanding.

“A two-state solution is the best way to address this conflict,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters aboard Air Force One on Wednesday, according to USA Today.

Netanyahu said earlier this week on Monday that he would fend off efforts to create a Palestinian state if he’s re-elected as prime minister of Israel. On Wednesday, the leader declared himself victorious following a narrow win against challenger Isaac Herzog of the center-left Zionist Union.

Breaking the Resistance with US Sponsored Terrorism and Proxy Wars

With the situation in the Middle East seemingly spinning out of control, many political observers are left wondering what it all means. The war in Syria has been at the forefront of the news since 2011, and rightly so, as Syria has become the epicenter of a larger regional conflict, particularly with the ascendance of ISIS in the last year.

Flashback 2014 - Have We Been Deceived About What Happened on 9/11? - Christopher Bollyn

A lecture by Christopher Bollyn that took place the 25th of May 2014 in Gothenburg Sweden.

Christopher Bollyn is an American journalist who has investigated the events of 9-11. He helped Professor Steven E. Jones in the spring and summer of 2006, when Jones found solid evidence of Thermite in the dust of the Twin Towers. The discovery and discussion of Thermite in the demolition of the World Trade Center led to serious trouble for both Jones and Bollyn. In the end Bollyn had to go into exile.

Christopher Bollyn has written several book on the subject, for example "Solving 9-11: The Deception that Changed the World".

The lecture was arranged by the Cui Bono Association.

Critics banned, Islamophobes welcomed at “We Believe in Israel” UK conference

Organizers of a major pro-Israel conference taking place in London this weekend have been vetting the political views of those registered to attend.

I know since, as a researcher examining the pro-Israel lobby in the UK, I signed up to attend, making no attempt to conceal my identity.

But those behind the 22 March “We Believe in Israel” conference, staged by a body of the same name which declares itself the “grassroots” arm of the UK’s major pro-Israel lobby group BICOM (the Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre), wrote to me to say my “application” to attend had not been accepted.

Conversely, organizations with links to the transnational Islamophobia industry appear to have been welcomed with open arms.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bahraini Activist: Al Khalifa Implementing Saudi Plans to Confront Bahrain's Revolution

"The Al Khalifa regime is trying to derail Bahrain's Revolution to a direction that is favored by the US and its regional allies," Ebrahim al-Ghoreifi told FNA on Monday.

He, however, noted that the people of Bahrain are vigilant and hold rallies everyday demanding the overthrow of the Al Khalifa regime.

"The Al Khalifa regime has committed big crimes against the Bahraini nation and it has violated their sovereignty and territorial integrity by allowing the occupying Saudi troops into their country …," Al-Ghoreifi said.

In a relevant development on Friday, Bahraini regime forces attacked protesters marking the fourth anniversary of Saudi Arabia’s military intervention to crush the uprising in the Persian Gulf country.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of al-Daih, al-Musalla, Bilad al-Qadeem, and Diraz to denounce the occupation of Bahraini land by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Note that you have most probably not seen any whisper of this conflict on any of the talking heads shows, chaired by commercial media's presstitutes.

But this is an explosion/revolution waiting to happen, unless the Al-Khalifa monarchy bends a little, and when the situation here does explode, it will be monumental in scope and breadth.

The largely Shiite population of Bahrain wants to see the country move into the present by creating a Constitutional Monarchy, with rights and privileges, including the right to petition the government.

Even the peaceful protesters were shot, beaten, and then the first responders who treated them were imprisoned, and tortured to confess to whatever narrative the Al-Khalifa monarchy wished them to. These people were also jailed and tortured.

And here is where the situation gets ugly/nasty for the US government.

The US government has been supporting both the Saudi and Bahraini government, because the US, ultimately, needs Saudi oil, and the US Navy's 5th fleet is hosted by Bahrain. Both governments have been brutally oppressive to their own people.

IF there is a revolution in Bahrain which spills over into Saudi Arabia (and although there has been little talk of it in the US press, there have been demonstrations in Saudi Arabia against the government), it is very likely that Saudi's oil may not be "available" for the US government, and will be purchased for other than the US dollar.

And in Bahrain, if a revolution is successful there, I would not bet against the US Navy being "uninvited" from its base in that kingdom.

So what does this government do?!?! Double down heavily on the side of two oppressive monarchies, because it is the geopolitically expedient thing to do, and democracy be DAMNED!!

Bad US foreign policy decisions are pushing the world to new heights of instability; and if you don't believe me, look how hard we are pushing Ukraine to go to war with Russia, and look at the failed state nation of Yemen.

It appears to me to be painfully clear that, within the last two administrations, absolutely no one in government had the ability to think a scenario through to its logical conclusion.

BEX Alert!!! - "Bolton: Obama deal with Iran ‘fundamentally flawed’"

Former US ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton has attacked US President Barack Obama for planning to sign a “flawed” nuclear agreement with Iran.

Speaking at the South Carolina National Security Action Summit in West Columbia, SC, the potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate said the US president is negotiating “an unprecedented act of surrender” with Iran.

“This deal is fundamentally flawed,” he said on Saturday. “There really is no deal I’d trust Iran with.”

Bolton also defended 47 Republican senators, who sent a warning letter to Iran, claiming Obama’s possible nuclear agreement with Iran is a “mere executive agreement” that could be revoked “with the stroke of a pen and future Congresses could modify the terms of the agreement at any time.”

BEX Alert - War with Iran is probably our best option

The logical flaw in the indictment of a looming “very bad” nuclear deal with Iran that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered before Congress this month was his claim that we could secure a “good deal” by calling Iran’s bluff and imposing tougher sanctions. The Iranian regime that Netanyahu described so vividly — violent, rapacious, devious and redolent with hatred for Israel and the United States — is bound to continue its quest for nuclear weapons by refusing any “good deal” or by cheating. . .

. . . Does this mean that our only option is war? Yes, although an air campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure would entail less need for boots on the ground than the war Obama is waging against the Islamic State, which poses far smaller a threat than Iran does.

C.I.A. Funds Found Their Way Into Qaeda Coffers: The United States has financed the very militants it is fighting as it spends hundreds of billions of dollars in Iraq

C.I.A. Cash Ended Up in Coffers of Al Qaeda: They first turned to a secret fund that the Central Intelligence Agency bankrolled with monthly cash deliveries to the presidential palace in Kabul, according to several Afghan officials involved in the episode. The Afghan government, they said, had already squirreled away about $1 million from that fund.

Within weeks, that money and $4 million more provided from other countries was handed over to Al Qaeda, replenishing its coffers after a relentless C.I.A. campaign of drone strikes in Pakistan had decimated the militant network’s upper ranks.

“God blessed us with a good amount of money this month,” Atiyah Abd al-Rahman, the group’s general manager, wrote in a letter to Osama bin Laden in June 2010, noting that the cash would be used for weapons and other operational needs.

US says UN will approve final nuclear deal between Iran, P5+1

US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki has said that the United Nations Security Council would endorse any final nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group.

"We would anticipate that, if we're able to reach a joint comprehensive Plan of Action between the P5+1 and Iran, an endorsement vote would be held by the UN Security Council," Psaki told reporters on Friday.

She added that Washington’s unilateral restrictions imposed against Tehran would be in place, even if the UN Security Council decides to ease its sanctions on the country.

Iran and the P5+1 group -- the US, Britain, France, China, Russia, and Germany -- are currently working to complete the outlines of a nuclear deal by the end of March after they reached an interim agreement in November 2013.

The two sides have by the end of June to clinch a final agreement.
