Defense Secretary Seeks Deeper US Involvement in Yemen War

Defense Secretary James Mattis is said to be pushing for the White House to remove all restrictions, placed during the waning months of President Obama’s presidency, on US military support for the Saudi invasion of Yemen, seeking deeper direct US involvement in fighting the Yemeni Shi’ites.

Mattis is said to be pushing National Security Adviser HR McMaster to agree that US support would combat the “common threat” the US and Saudi Arabia face in Yemen, which appears to be continued Shi’ite autonomy in the northern half of the country.

The US, of course, has already been directly involved in the Saudi war in Yemen from the beginning, providing in-air refueling for Saudi warplanes and participating in a naval blockade that has caused massive food shortages across northern Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sec-Def Mattis, a word please: by participating in the Saudi genocide in Yemen, which has involved the assassination of wide swathes of civilians, including children; starving Yemeni children to death with malnutrition from the port blockades, and the poisoning of children in the womb through the Saudi's use of depleted uranium weapons, the United States government is complicit in its war crimes.

Mike and I are way too poor, and too old, to be accepted as a citizen of any other country at this stage in our lives; because right now, if Mike and I could, we would!

That being said, I find it morally reprehensible that both you, and President Trump, have absolutely no qualm of conscience about continuing to aid and abet these horrific acts on the part of the Saudi military.

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS GATHER IN MASSIVE PROTEST TO US SPONSORED SAUDI TERRORISM IN YEMEN

Sana’a, Yemen — Hundreds of thousands took to the streets in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a to protest the second anniversary of the invasion by Saudi Arabia, as well as the ongoing military offensive by the loosely U.S.-backed, Saudi-led coalition of nine nations attempting to crush the Shia Houthi rebellion.

“I participated in the protests against the aggression (by the Saudi-led coalition), maybe our voice will be heard by the world over to stop the war,” the Associated Press quoted protester, Ahmed Mohsen, who, along with war-weary throngs of others — participated to try to call attention to the U.S.’ other major conflict.

“Two years of wanton violence and bloodshed, thousands of deaths and millions of people desperate for their basic rights to food, water, health and security,” railed UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, “enough is enough.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Not only are the Saudi troops murdering and starving children in Yemen:

Images: wounded and killed children by Saudi bombing raids in Yemen

images: Yemeni children starving to death due to Saudi ports blockade

The Saudis are also poisoning the people of Yemen, and causing massive amounts of child deformities and deaths through the use of depleted uranium weapons.

Increase in infant deformities in Yemen suggest that the US/UK supplied Saudi Arabia with depleted uranium weapons

Media coverage of uranium weapons and the spiraling sickness has been meager. Malak Hamden said when she and colleagues published the 2010 Fallujah study, “CNN said something, but no newspapers touched the story.” A BBC reporter told Williams the public doesn’t want to know about uranium weapons. In the meantime, the United States continues to build them. Williams notes that U.S. Patent Office records show Lockheed Martin and Raytheon hold patents for enhanced bombs and cruise missile warheads that include uranium options. For Soldiers With Gulf War Illness, a Clue to the Mystery in Their Cells Today, with the U.S., Britain, France, Saudi Arabia and Russia bombing Syria, and with the Saudis bombing and the U.S. firing drones into Yemen—with some of the same kinds of weapons unleashed in Iraq—it is likely that the people living there, along with fleeing refugees, will suffer just as the Iraqis and veterans have. As Busby notes, uranium oxide dust is like a bomb that keeps going off. “People’s genes are damaged for generations. Scientists found this in 22 generations of mice, after Chernobyl. The only way mutated genes disappear is when carriers don’t have children.”

Warning: horrifically graphic video of Yemeni children born with severe birth defects, generated by Saudi Arabia's use of depleted uranium in Yemen.

Infant deformities in Yemen linked to Saudi-led bombardment (GRAPHIC VIDEO)

I think there must be a very special place in hell designated for the people who manufacture these weapons, sign off on the use of these weapons, and use weapons like this.

Poisoning children in the womb is one of the most morally vile, and reprehensible forms of child abuse I can imagine; it not only destroys the child and the child's family: it also destroys the future of a country, because it frightens young couples into not having children, because there is no remedy against this toxic substance, and the damage depleted uranium does to human DNA.

And if you look at the children in the video, you will see that the damage is very similar, or nearly identical to, the damage the US military created in the Iraqi town of Fallujah, where depleted uranium was also used.

WW3 FEARS: Global bid to BAN nuclear weapons over rising concerns at North Korea

MORE than 100 countries are to hold the first United Nations talks over a global nuclear weapons ban despite the major world powers objecting.

Although Britain, France, Israel, Russia and the United States voted no, while China, India and Pakistan abstained, 123 UN members said they would hold the conference to draw up a legally binding nuclear ban treaty.

Japan, which is the only country to have suffered atomic attacks, voted against the talks, saying the lack of consensus over the negotiations could undermine progress on effective nuclear disarmament.

The countries leading the effort include Austria, Ireland, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa and Sweden.

US Will Keep Ground Troops in Libya

In a press briefing at the Pentagon today, African Command leader Gen. Thomas Waldhauser announced that the US intends to keep ground troops in Libya for the foreseeable future to support “friendly forces,” and to “degrade” the ISIS forces that remain in the country.

Waldhauser did not specify how many US troops are in Libya now, or how many will stay, but did estimate that there were less than 200 ISIS fighters left in Libya. The US had announced the end of the anti-ISIS campaign in Libya back in December, but never fully withdrew from the country.

The US forces were in Libya trying to help the “unity” government defeat ISIS in the city of Sirte. US officials repeatedly claimed the city was totally surrounded, and that no ISIS fighters would get away, though when the fighting finally ended, a substantial number of ISIS fighters did in fact get away.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: this is "military-speak" for the reality that the US government is never leaving Libya because of the oil and the oil pipelines.

War on Terror Unites Trump and the Establishment

It’s conventional wisdom that Washington, DC is a city marked by gridlock. Republicans obstructed President Obama’s agenda on principle, as Democrats are attempting to do now with Donald Trump. To give even an inch is a sign of political weakness. Trump is, admittedly, a polarizing figure, and there is certainly plenty of dissent in today’s political environment on a host of issues. The War on Terror, though, continues the same trajectory it’s been on for the better part of this century. President Trump, like President Obama before him, has mainstream support for his terror policies and approach to the conflicts in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I had hoped that at least, in terms of foreign policy, a Trump Presidency would give our country, and the world, a more nuanced approach, featuring a real push in the direction of hard-won, moral negotiations and a return to something approximating true diplomacy.

Unfortunately, so far, it has been painfully apparent to anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together, that this is not happening, and that the US government's attempted, and unhinged, martial conquest of all the world's resources continues, unabated.

Infant deformities in Yemen linked to Saudi-led bombardment (GRAPHIC VIDEO)

Doctors in Yemen have reported an increase in children born with deformities as a result of the two-year war that has left the country on the brink of famine.
The al-Sabeen Maternity and Child Hospital in the capital, Sana’a, has seen an increase in babies being born prematurely and with deformities, which doctors say is a result of the war and the Saudi-led coalition’s bombs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Are these Saudi monsters, enabled by the US military, using DU weapons, like US forces did in Falujah, Iraq?!? The level, and nature of these deformities reminds me very much about what we saw after the American military used depleted uranium weapons in Iraq.

Now, I am going to guarantee you that this image of an Iraqi child, ravaged in the womb, by DU, looks identical to the image of the child you see in the article above:

Beware The Unmarked 18-Wheeler

If you do a lot of highway driving, you can’t help but see a lot of 18-wheelers. You see the big rigs with brand names splashed all over them. Walmart, Swift, Old Dominion, UPS, and hundreds more freight companies travel millions of miles per day along America’s highways. Have you ever noticed an 18-wheeler rolling along with no markings? If you do, give it some space, you might be surprised what that semi is carrying.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why doesn't the Office of Secure Transportation paint their trucks with logos to match the rest of the highway traffic? That surveillance van that was monitoring the 9-11 10th anniversary symposium was painted to look like a USP truck. Some of the trucks supporting the BLM's invasion of Bundy Ranch were painted to look like they were from retail stores. Even Spielberg showed this in "Close Encounters."

LAWSUIT: POLICE DESTROYED FARM HOUSE TO CAPTURE HOMELESS MAN ARMED WITH AN ICE CREAM BAR

Is it possible to arrest an unarmed homeless person without destroying the residence he's hiding in? To the Fresno County Sheriff's Department and Clovis PD (and far too many other law enforcement agencies), the question remains rhetorical.

David Jessen's farmhouse felt the full, combined force of two law enforcement agencies and all their toys last June. According to his lawsuit [PDF], a homeless man was rousted from a nearby vacant house after he was discovered sleeping in the closet. He left peacefully but was soon spotted by the construction crew breaking into Jessen's house. The construction worker, god bless him, called the police because he thought they could help.

Now, the officers might have been concerned the homeless person had armed himself with one of Jessen's weapons, despite his assurances they were well-hidden/unloaded. Even so, they had plenty of options available that didn't include doing all the things they did instead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was not about "to protect and serve'; this was about "to search and destroy with impunity", and it appeared that the local cops did this with the sure and certain knowledge that they had the right to create as much property damage as they possibly could.

If we're going to rule out negotiations with North Korea, we have to be ready for war

“Twenty years of talking has brought us to the point we are today,” Tillerson said at a news conference. “Talk is not going to change the situation.” If North Korea threatens South Korean or American forces or elevates the level of its weapons program, Tillerson warned, preemptive military action is “on the table.”

Tillerson’s comments did not come entirely out of left field. For months, Washington has been abuzz over the possibility that North Korea may successfully test an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of delivering a nuclear weapon to an American city. In a New Year’s address, North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un indicated such a test could come sooner than we think.

But Tillerson’s warning did signal that the Trump administration is taking U.S. policy toward North Korea in a new direction — that we may be serious about abandoning engagement and willing to pursue containment through military action.

DONALD TRUMP IS FILLING TOP PENTAGON AND HOMELAND SECURITY POSITIONS WITH DEFENSE CONTRACTORS

President Donald Trump has weaponized the revolving door by appointing defense contractors and their lobbyists to key government positions as he seeks to rapidly expand the military budget and homeland security programs.

Two Department of Homeland Security appointments Trump announced Tuesday morning are perfect examples.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am profoundly disappointed by these developments; we need people in these positions who insure, through an audit process, that all the money spent by the US government intelligently, and that the "bang" for its weapons development dollars is a profoundly positive one.

Throwing more money at a failed system will not fix the problems of a failed system, the corporate governance of which believes it is perfectly acceptable to deliver flawed, so late in delivery as to be obsolete, and vastly over-budget products.

The Pentagon: Americans Support Increasing Budget of Most Wasteful Federal Department

A Politico and Morning Consult poll, a scientific sampling of 1,992 registered American voters, which was first published on March 8th, asked «Here is a list of federal departments and agencies. For each of the following, please indicate if you think the department or agency should have its annual budget increased, decreased, or kept about the same». Here is what it found:

Webmaster's Commentary:

I do not believe in giving the DOD more money, when they cannot account for the money they have already been given, and they should have to process their spending through a strict audit structure which would make them accountable.

And secondly, the culture of our weapons manufacturers has to change.

That the CEOS of such companies believe it is perfectly acceptable to deliver products that are obsolete, compared to what Russian and Chinese weapons manufacturers are delivering to their countries; and that it is acceptable to deliver products with huge failure rates, which may never work as advertised (like the F-35); and that huge cost over-runs, coupled with horrifically late deliveries are standard operating procedures, can no longer be tolerated.

And instead of fines, when the above-mentioned happens, there needs to be hard jail time for those executives who signed off on those practices; this is the only way this corporate culture will be "inspired" to change, because everything else the US government has tried here, to accomplish this, has been an epic failure.

U.N. Nuclear Inspector: North Korea’s Capability Has Entered A ‘New Phase’

North Korea’s nuclear weapons program has entered a “new phase,” with the country having doubled the size of its uranium-enrichment facility in recent years, Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told The Wall Street Journal.

“The situation is very bad …. It has gone into a new phase,” Amano told the publication Monday. “All of the indications point to the fact that North Korea is making progress, as they declared.”

And while Amano believes a diplomatic solution, like the one he helped broker between world powers and Iran in 2015, is “essential,” he’s skeptical such an agreement can be reached with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his government.

“We don’t have the reason to be optimistic,” he told the Journal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, because "“We don’t have the reason to be optimistic”, is Amano "grooming" the US and the West for a war against Korea, and most probably China?!?

That would be a pure, utter catastrophe for the United States government right now, due to its military's lack of cost-effective, and militarily effective weaponry, compared to that of China and Russia; its lack of funds to pursue such a war; the lack of troop strength, compared to that of Russia and China; and a lack of domestic manufacturing.

To avoid such a war, negotiations present the only possible solution, with North Korea given full trade privileges, in exchange for abandoning its nuclear weapons program.

US and Russian Military Leaders Are Meeting Again, Breaking a Long and Dangerous Drought

The military leaders of the world’s most lethal nuclear-tipped states met in February, the first such meeting in three years. The two generals got together again earlier this month, once more in relative obscurity that belied their meetings’ tremendous importance.

Long projected, but politically and geographically difficult to finalize, the Feb. 16 meeting was a personal first for Gen. Joseph Dunford and Gen. Valery Gerasimov, respectively the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Russia’s chief of the General Staff. They met in Baku, Azerbaijan, and frankly but cordially discussed the overall diminished state of U.S. and Russian military relations, the need for better communications between key leaders, and ways to deconflict military activities that could inadvertently put both countries at risk.

THE CIA’S 60-YEAR HISTORY OF FAKE NEWS: HOW THE DEEP STATE CORRUPTED MANY AMERICAN WRITERS

In this week’s episode of “Scheer Intelligence,” Truthdig Editor in Chief Robert Scheer interviews Joel Whitney, author and co-founder of Guernica magazine.

Whitney’s new book, “Finks: How the C.I.A. Tricked the World’s Best Writers,” explores how the CIA influenced acclaimed writers and publications during the Cold War to produce subtly anti-communist material. During the interview, Scheer and Whitney discuss these manipulations and how the CIA controlled major news agencies and respected literary publications (such as the Paris Review).

Webmaster's Commentary:

The CIA has been bending the narrative to fit the American Deep State's agenda for years, no matter how badly the American people had to suffer for it, particularly in terms of wars the US government has fought - and continues to fight- to ultimately upgrade private corporate profits.

Tillerson Urges China to Refrain From Retaliation Against THAAD in S Korea

It isn't economic retaliation Tillerson is bleating about. China moved some heavy EW jammers up to where they can jam THAAD making it useless against an NK riposte!

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson urged China on Friday to refrain from creating economic policies which could hinder South Korea’s deployment of a US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-ballistic missile system.

"While we acknowledge China's opposition, its economic retaliation against South Korea is inappropriate and troubling. We ask China to refrain from such actions," Tillerson said during a press conference following his talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se.

Sirens blare as Japan, fearing North Korea, holds first missile drill

Sirens blared and loudspeakers broadcast warnings in Japan's first civilian missile evacuation drill on Friday, conducted in a fishing town by officials wary about the threat of North Korean missiles.

The exercise comes more than a week after North Korea launched four ballistic missiles into the sea off Japan's northwest coast, with one rocket landing about 200 km (124 miles)from the town of Oga.

Friday's drill played out a scenario in which North Korea had fired a ballistic missile on the Japanese islands.

"The missile is seen to have landed within a 20-km (12-mile) boundary west of the Oga peninsula," a speaker blared during the evacuation. "The government is currently examining the damage." (For a graphic on missile evacuation drill in Oga, Japan, click tmsnrt.rs/2ngq11y)

N. Korea blasts U.S. bombing drills in S. Korea

North Korea on Thursday condemned South Korea and the United States for "escalating nuclear attack threats," citing the participation of U.S. strategic bombers and the nuclear-powered USS Carl Vinson in joint military drills in South Korea.

North Korea's official news agency, KCNA, said a fleet of B-1B Lancer bombers from the Andersen air base on Guam made a stealth flight over the Sangdong firing range of South Korea on Monday for about an hour on a nuclear bomb-dropping drill aimed at making preemptive strikes at major targets of the DPRK. DPRK is an acronym for Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the North's official name.

The defense ministry didn't confirm the deployment of the U.S. strategic assets to the region, where tensions have increased in recent weeks with North Korea's missile launches and the killing of Kim Jong-un's half-brother in Malaysia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We'll have to read the tea leaves on this, When Rex Tillerson finishes his meetings with South Korea's Interim President tomorrow, but I would almost be willing to bet real money that we see military conflict with North Korea, and sooner rather that later.

But the big question I have to ask is, in light of the reality that China and North Korea have a mutual defense pact, what will the Chinese government do, if the US, Japan, and South Korea, attack North Korea?!?

The race to save footage of America's nuclear tests: Declassified clips of blasts put online as film found to be decomposing

Between 1945 and 1962, the United States conducted 210 atmospheric nuclear tests over remote sites in New Mexico, Nevada, and both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

With several cameras to capture each detonation, the tests yielded roughly 10,000 recordings which have since been left to be slowly decay in high-security vaults.

Now, researchers are working to scan the decomposing films so the footage can be reanalysed and declassified before it’s too late.

US deploying attack drones to South Korea

The United States has begun deploying attack drones to South Korea as tensions with North Korea remain high over Pyongyang’s persistence in its missile and nuclear program.

U.S. Forces Korea said Monday that the company of Gray Eagle Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) will be permanently stationed at Kunsan Air Base, about 150 miles south of Seoul.

“The stationing of this company, which will be assigned to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division, directly supports the U.S. Army’s strategic plan to add one Gray Eagle company to each division in the Army,” U.S. Forces Korea said in a press release.

“The UAS adds significant intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability to U.S. Forces Korea and our [Republic of Korea] partners.”

The timeline for the full deployment of the drone company is unclear.
The deployment comes as tensions on the peninsula remain fraught after North Korea’s latest missile test.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would suggest that this deployment will come sooner rather than later; it appears that all the pieces are being put into place for a war against North Korea.

North Korea and China do have a mutual defense pact:

Sino-North Korean Mutual Aid and Cooperation Friendship Treaty

So the question I hope keeps our senior lawmakers and military managers up at night is, how will China respond to a US/Japanese/South Korean attack on North Korea?!?

Living here on Oahu, such a question is very disturbing to contemplate.

Report: Trump Gives CIA Permission To Perform Drone Strikes

President Donald Trump has given the Central Intelligence Agency new authority to conduct drone attacks against suspected militants, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing U.S. officials.

The move would be a change from the policy of former President Barack Obama’s administration of limiting the CIA’s paramilitary role, the newspaper reported.

The White House, the U.S. Department of Defense and the CIA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Strikes by missile-armed Predator and Reaper drones against oversea targets began under former President George W. Bush and were expanded by Obama.

Critics of the targeted killing program question whether the strikes create more militants than they kill. They cite the spread of jihadist organizations and militant attacks throughout the world as evidence that targeted killings may be exacerbating the problem.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In a country which was engineered, legally, around the concept of due process, extrajudicial assassinations should have utterly no place in American war tactics, and work as marvelous tools of radicalization, inspiring aggrieved young men to seek the revenge of jihad.

These drone strikes are, very practically, a way to perpetuate wars, leaving utterly no chance for political solutions globally.

And given the "rogue agency" status, and capabilities, of the CIA, as witnessed by the Wickileaks "dump" of Vault 7 last week, I have to wonder; what will prevent the CIA from engaging in extrajudicial assassinations here in the US?!?

Unfortunately, the short answer is, not much!!

Thousands of Upcoming Nuclear Weapons Shipments During $1 Trillion Nuclear Arsenal Upgrade

The unmarked 18-wheelers ply the nation’s interstates and two-lane highways, logging 3 million miles a year hauling the most lethal cargo there is: nuclear bombs.

The covert fleet, which shuttles warheads from missile silos, bomber bases and submarine docks to nuclear weapons labs across the country, is operated by the Office of Secure Transportation, a troubled agency within the U.S. Department of Energy so cloaked in secrecy that few people outside the government know it exists.

The $237-million-a-year agency operates a fleet of 42 tractor-trailers, staffed by highly armed couriers, many of them veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, responsible for making sure nuclear weapons and components pass through foggy mountain passes and urban traffic jams without incident.

The Korean Crisis and the THAAD Missile Deployment: A Growing Tinderbox in the South

Objections to THAAD are not only coming from Pyongyang. Moscow and Beijing have both spoken up against the new missile system for reasons that are routinely ignored in US media discourse.

South Korea is hardly unprotected and alone. The United States already has 28,500 troops in South Korea. It also has F-16 fighter aircraft and A-10 bomber jets. South Korea’s military is also very well stocked, with F-35 Fighter Jets, Aegis Destroyers, and all kinds of military hardware purchased from the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This implementation of the THAAD system in South Korea is being constructed there for one reason, and one reason only; preparations for war against North Korea.

What President Trump could do to ratchet down the tensions here, would be to engage China to bring back North Korea to the bargaining table with the upcoming new South Korean President and government, and the US in order to hammer out an actual peace treaty to replace the armistice, with guarantees of free movement for North Korean goods, in exchange for North Korea's ending of it's nuclear weapons program.

Of course, that...would be logical.

U.S. forges ahead with South Korea missile defenses, despite upheaval

The U.S. military said on Friday it plans to forge ahead with building the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea, separating the issue from a political crisis in Seoul that saw President Park Geun-hye's removal from office on Friday.

The United States started deploying the first elements of its advanced anti-missile defense system in South Korea on Tuesday in response to North Korea's ballistic missile and nuclear tests.

Leading candidates to replace Park have split over THAAD. One prominent opposition candidate called for a review while another recently told Chinese media that THAAD deployment should be called off.

Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis described THAAD as something that had already been decided upon between both nations and which was fully justified by the North Korean threat. He declined to comment on internal politics in Seoul.

"Leaders change over time, that's not new," Davis told a news conference.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported at abc.com:

With Park now formally unseated, the country, by law, must hold a presidential by-election within 60 days. This means the vote will likely take place on May 9.

The winner of the election will be immediately sworn in as the country's leader, according to South Korea's National Election Commission.

Interesting timing; the US/South Korean military exercises, Operation Foal Eagle, end just before the election happens.

Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Made in Britain, Tested on Yemenis: The Reality of Working for the “Bomb-makers”

Jack sits down with his pint in the Fielden Arms in Mellor, and contemplates his latest shift making Typhoon warplanes for the Saudi air force.

Tucking into steak and chips, the 25-year-old talks of moving in with his girlfriend, his good pay at the nearby BAE factory – £40,000, almost twice the local average - and the security it brings.

And then he thinks of the people those planes will be sent to kill.

“You see the children in Yemen starving on the 10 o’clock news,” he tells Middle East Eye. “But you try to not pay attention and just get on with it.”

His friend, Harry, interjects: “It’s really weird and there is no way to describe it, because you are in essence building a weapon of mass destruction.”

So why don’t they quit? “Good pay and job security,” Jack responds, taking another sip of his beer. “If the military contracts go, 7,000 people go with them.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

These factory workers need to do what all the politicians in the UK have done, in signing off on BAE's production of their weapons for Saudi Arabia; have their conscience collectively surgically removed.

I mean, hell, what's all the fuss about being complicit to genocide in Yemen, when it's "money uber alles" that really matters, right?!?

Donald Trump set to send B-52 NUCLEAR BOMBERS to South Korea after North fires missiles at Japan and US warns of ‘overwhelming’ response

DONALD Trump is reportedly planning to send nuclear bombers to the Korean peninsula as tensions in the region reach breaking point.

North Korea and the US have been teetering on the brink of war for months after Kim Jong-un carried out a series of controversial missile launches.

Earlier this week, trigger-happy Kim pushed his luck once more when he fired off four ballistic missiles into the seas near Japan.

Now US military chiefs are reportedly planning to fly in B-1 and B-52 bombers – built to carry nuclear bombs – to show America has had enough, according to the Korea Times.

South Korea and the US have also started their annual Foal Eagle military exercise sending a strong warning to North Korea over its actions.

A military official said 300,000 South Korean troops and 15,000 US personnel are taking part in the operation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These military exercises are scheduled to last for two months, and have just begun. That's a lot of time for something to go "south", either in terms of an accidental blunder, or a deliberate"false flag", to be blamed on the North Korean government.

What would deescalate the situation would be if the US, Japan, South Korea, and China were to get North Korea back to the bargaining table, and replace the current armistice with an actual peace treaty with North Korea, with the caveat being, that in return for a legitimate peace treaty, North Korea would give up its nuclear weapons program.

Of course, THAT...would be logical.

HOUSE PASSES $578 BILLION MILITARY SPENDING BILL

The House of Representatives today voted 371-48, with massive majorities in both parties, in favor of another $578 billion military spending bill to cover the remainder of fiscal year 2017. The bill now moves on to the Senate, where it again is expected to easily pass.

The exact meaning of the figures is a little difficult to understand this time around, because Congress had already passed a military spending bill for fiscal year 2017 back in December, which was $611 billion. That bill was only ever intended to be a fraction of what was to be spent, aiming to give way to a second “emergency” bill before April, which is today’s bill, which would cover the rest of the year. That said, there is a lot of overlap between the two and the overall budget is not just a matter of adding the two together.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to President Trump and Congress: please spend this money more wisely than it has been spent in the past, particularly when it comes to America's weapons makers.

The practice of delivering weapons which are obsolete upon delivery; which do not perform as advertised; or have horrific cost over-runs cannot, and should not be tolerated by the US government or We the People.

Trump Invades Syria

Make no mistake: this is big news. And very bad news!

Although the Syrian army, with its ally Russia, has made significant gains against ISIS over the past week or so, the Washington Post is reporting tonight that President Trump has for the first time sent regular US military personnel into that country in combat positions.

This is an unprecedented escalation of US involvement in the Syrian war and it comes without Congressional authorization, without UN authorization, and without the authorization of the government of Syria. In short it is three ways illegal.

US Rejects Talks over North Korea, Declaring “All Options on Table”… Including War against the DPRK?

Amid sharply rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the Trump administration has flatly rejected a Chinese proposal for negotiations with North Korea despite warnings from the Chinese foreign minister, Wang Yi, that Washington and Pyongyang were on a collision course. A confrontation looms as huge South Korean-US military exercises are underway, involving over 300,000 troops backed by an US aircraft carrier strike group, stealth fighters and strategic bombers.

China is clearly alarmed at the prospect of war on its doorstep. Speaking in uncharacteristically blunt terms in Beijing yesterday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned:

“The two sides are like accelerating trains coming toward each other with neither side willing to give way,” he said. “The question is: Are the two sides really ready for a head-on collision? Our priority now is to flash the red light and apply the brakes on both trains.”

North Korea Warns Of ‘Actual War’ Over Military Exercises

North Korea said on Tuesday it would pursue its nuclear deterrent and weapons program as huge U.S.-South Korean joint military exercises it says model a “pre-emptive nuclear attack” against Pyongyang continued.

South Korea and the United States, which led condemnation of North Korea’s latest missile tests at the Conference on Disarmament, said their military drills were to test defensive readiness against possible aggression from the North.

North Korean diplomat Ju Yong Choi told the United Nations-backed forum that the allies’ annual exercises were “a major cause of escalation of tension that might turn into actual war”.

“The DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) is firm in its determination to further bolster its defense capabilities with a nuclear deterrent as a pivot so as to put an end to danger of nuclear war caused by the United States,” Ju said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported at the World Socialist Website this morning:

The missile launch took place amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula as the US and South Korean militaries started their annual Foal Eagle war games. The joint exercises over the next two months reportedly involve at least 320,000 South Korean and American military personnel backed by a US aircraft carrier and its strike group, and advanced US fighters and bombers.

OK, let me wrap my head around this: 320,000 troops?!? A US aircraft carrier and its strike group?!? Advanced fighters and bombers?!? In a military exercise set to last for 60 days, for Pete's sake?!?

It sure looks the heck to me that the US "deep state" and military, are spoiling for a war against North Korea.

And 60 days is one heck of a long time for a military exercise to carry forward, and long enough that a huge tactical, communications, or other kind of " mistake" (or false flag) to happen, leading to military confrontation between South Korea, the US government, and North Korea.

WEAPONRY, NOT IDEOLOGY, IS THE STRENGTH OF ISLAMIC STATE:

I think I might have serendipitously discovered the answer to this riddle in an unprecedented December 2013 news report [1] from a website affiliated with the UAE government which supports the Syrian opposition: it is clearly mentioned that along with AK-47s, RPGs and other military gear, the Saudi regime also provides machine gun-mounted Toyota pick-up trucks to every batch of five jihadists who have completed their training in the training camps located at the border regions of Jordan. Once those militants cross over to Daraa and Quneitra in southern Syria from the Jordan-Syria border then those Toyota pick-up trucks can easily travel all the way to Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor and thence to Mosul in Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Many, many years ago, I mentioned on this blog that the de-Baathification of the Iraqi military was, perhaps, the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could have done in Iraq. Unfortunately, time has proven this to be a correct assessment on this issue.

And note who is doing the actual training of these jihadis: the CIA in collaboration with the Turkish, Jordanian and Saudi intelligence agencies

Frankly, if this is not a "We have met the enemy, and he is us" moment for you, I don't know what can be.

The US government, in its lust to further destabilize the Middle East, and forcibly bend it to its will (according to Israel's desires), has created a world of hurt enabling it to expropriate resources to which it has no moral right; making sure the governments of those countries wind up western-centric, even if it has to destroy those countries to make that happen; and insure that those resources are only sold in US dollars.

The degree to which these activities by my government constitute war crimes, at this point in its history, is frightening and morally monstrous; there are moments when I wake up in the morning, and think I've awoken in the wrong country, but no.

I have awakened in what used to be the land of the free and the home of the brave; But in the last two decades, it has morphed into a thorough police state, where one is presumed guilty until proven innocent; surveilled every moment; and its people painfully exploited by the 1% who do not understand how angry the rest of us are.

As a Christian witness and Christian pacifist activist, I will never advocate violence; but I understand how violence can come about.

I am, however, advocating that all of the readers of this blog, and listeners to Mike's radio show,to quietly prepare themselves in terms of food; potable water; medication, and plans to reunite with their families, if they are separated if the excrement hits the ventilation system; 2017, at every level, may be a roller coaster ride of epic proportions.

According to the NATO treaty, “an armed attack against one or more [members] shall be considered an attack against them all,” and allies may use any action necessary for defense. In recent years, this has been expanded to include cyber attacks and hacking.

Now, the low key heartland state of Oklahoma is suddenly rivaling San Frascisco as the most earthquake-prone place in the United States.

Great Expectations

We all have great expectations, especially when we are young. Later in life, sunny skies often turn dark and by necessity we trim our sails.

So it is both refreshing and quite remarkable to encounter a 70-year old man whose life trajectory set him on the opposite course of continually enlarging his expectations, most especially when that man is the recently installed President of the United States.

Unfortunately, when a large dose of capriciousness worthy of a Boris Yeltsin, as a Russian editorialist recently noted, is added to those expectations, those of us who supported Donald Trump's presidential bid in hopes of an actual improvement in the U.S.-Russian relationship are feeling the sting of betrayal. (Any comparison to Boris Yeltsin is truly the kiss of death to 98% of Russians, and not one that should warm any American's heart.)

From the frying pan into the fire.

One does not have to look far to find the people who are heading up the war planning. Yesterday, President Trump appointed Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster, an army strategist, as his new national security advisor.

The selection of McMaster is broadly seen as a concession to Trump’s anti-Russia critics in the political and intelligence establishment. He is the leading figure in an Army project called the Russia New Generation Warfare study, whose participants have made repeated trips to the battlefields of eastern Ukraine to study Russia’s military capabilities and devise strategies and weapons systems to defeat them. McMaster has called on the US to prepare for high-intensity conventional war with Russia, involving not only long-range missile systems and stealth aircraft, but also “close” combat.

US Navy: Nuke-Capable Submarine Missiles Tested Successfully Off California Coast

Over the past week, the US Navy has revealed that they carried out four test fires in a matter of three days of Trident II nuclear-capable ICBM missiles off the course of California, insisting that all four launches were a success.

The missiles are submarine launched, and designed to carry up to eight nuclear warheads 4,000 nautical miles. The missiles, which were first deployed in 1989, are called Trident because they are meant to be part of a three-way nuclear capacity, including land, sea, and air nuclear weaponry.

Officials insisted, of course, that the missiles were not armed when they were fired, and were carried out at the usual Pacific Test Range. Ohio-class submarines are capable of firing 24 such missiles each, and officials say the tests are commonly conducted.

Breaking: Ballistic missile strikes Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

According to emerging reports from Yemen, a surface-to-surface missile fired by the Yemeni Army has hit Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

The missile was launched on Sunday evening, and sources in Yemen have described the missile test as successful. It is unclear exactly what missile was used, and casualty figures, if any, are yet to be reported.

Saudi Arabia militarily intervened in the Yemeni Conflict in 2015, leading a coalition of almost 10 Middle Eastern countries. In October 2016, a Yemeni activist warned that Riyadh was the next target for a Yemeni missile attack.

Update 1: More information has emerged, suggesting that the missile was a variant of a Russian Scud, known as the “Borkan” surface-to-surface missile.

Update 2: Sources indicate that the missile struck a military base West of Riyadh, in Mazahimiyah.

Update 3: On social media, a Saudi attempts to cover-up the attack, saying that the sound of the explosion in Riyadh was an earthquake or meteor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, the Yemen military appears to be blamed for this attack.

But who, in the Middle East, has some variation on the “Borkan” surface-to-surface missile?!"?

We need to be very, very careful about to whom we ascribe the blame in this attack.

The Houthi rebels are not precisely supported by people who have a lot of money to spend on this kind of technology, which means that most likely, Iran is going to be blamed for this attack.

Remember on Friday, when I mentioned on this blog, that something needed to happen, to "justify" the US military's further involvement in Yemen?!?

Unfortunately, that appeared to have just happened. Whether it was direct Israeli or American involvement here, in order to escalate the situation in Yemen, I do not know, but one thing I do intuit, is that something wicked this way comes, in terms of more intense US military action against Yemen.

I hope to heck I am mistaken, but given the intensity of the American "deep state" wish to regime change Tehran, I do not think that I am.

Our war with China another Vietnam War in the making

A disastrous, purposeless war with China to defend the global credibility of the United States is imminent. Only vocal citizen opposition to the war communicated to the Congress and the White House can prevent our self-ruination. It happened in 2013 to prevent President Obama from another trillion-dollar fool’s errand against Syria. The system still works, if citizens will use it.

Secretary of State-designate Rex Tillerson testified on Jan. 11, 2017, before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the United States would deny China access to islands in the South China Sea over which China claims sovereignty. (The artificial islands are thousands of miles from the continental United States and irrelevant to invincible self-defense). Mr. Tillerson declared that China’s building and militarization of the islands was “akin to Russia’s taking Crimea” from Ukraine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Now, bear in mind that this oculd be "Confirmation talk"; Tillerson telling the Senate Foreign Relations Committee what he thinks they want to hear!

But if not ...

An urgent, honest memo to Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson; your narrative on Crimea is so utterly, amazingly and stupidly incorrect as to have the US looking at war with both Russia and China, which would be a disastrous outcome for US foreign policy.

In 2014, we had the Soros/IMF/US-backed revolution which threw the duly elected Ukrainian Russian-centric president Yanukovich under the proverbial bus, and "anointed" Petro Poroshenko to take over, in an election more crooked than a dog's hind leg.

I would like to believe, sir, that you are aware that Victoria Nuland bragged, in a presentation, of how much money the US had spent to destabilize Ukraine, and you can, if you have not seen it, see it here, because there are too many private copies for America and the World to "unsee" this video:

Regime Change in Kiev

Victoria Nuland Admits: US Has Invested $5 Billion In The Development of Ukrainian, "Democratic Institutions"

When the Crimean government realized that there was no legitimate government in Kiev, due to the US-sponsored coup, they petitioned their people as to whether they wanted to stay with Ukraine, or join the Russian Federation. Overwhelmingly, the Crimean people, who were part of Russia before being annexed to Ukraine by Ukrainian USSR President Khrushchev, voted overwhelmingly to petition the Russian Federation to become a part of it, and the Russian Federation accepted.

There was utterly no "annexation" by Russia whatsoflippingever, and it very much concerns me that your perception is so far away from documented reality on this issue.

Has anyone happened to mention to you the history of these Islands in China, which were originally awarded to China after World War 2?!?!?

China Awarded the Islands in the South China Sea after World War 2, via the Cairo Agreement

Sir, forgive me, but if I understand this, as a private American citizen, I am very alarmed that you seem to not understand this at all.

And Secretary Tillerson, the US military is so not ready for a war against either China , and/or Russia. We don't have the money, the manufacturing, the troop strength, or the weaponry to insure a positive outcome to any kind of a war against these two countries.

When US weapons are delivered, they are sometimes so late as to be obsolete; they don't work as advertised, and are obscenely over-budget. The Chinese and Russian military are not spending any where near what the US government is spending for our weapons, but getting far more bank for their collective weapons buck.

Before you start making noises which may lead to war, Mr. Secretary, I think you need one hell of a good briefing from General Mattis about our military's general state of readiness, at all levels.

Please.

The fate of this country, and this world, depends upon your having a realistic and honest grasp of the scenarios generated by this country's "deep State", with a clear understanding of where these scenarios diverge from reality.

Also please remember; you have a war-skeptic, war-weary American population which remembers, very clearly, the lie that "Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction." The presstitutes and whorespondents ran with that lie, and far too much blood and money has been spent on wars.

And just so you have it straight, I am a Christian pacifist activist, who constantly exhorts her country to resolve its geopolitical differences in ways other than wars. I never advocate violence; only hard-won, good faith negotiations.

DEAL WITH IT!!

North Korea Restarts Plutonium Production Reactor

"Imagery from January 22 shows a water plume (most probably warm) originating from the cooling water outlet of the reactor, an indication that the reactor is very likely operating," the 38 North website reported Friday.

"Currently, most of the river is frozen over except where this water mixes with the river. Currents carry this mix downstream — visible as a plume of ice-free water. Without being able to measure the water temperature rise or water flow from the reactor, it is impossible to estimate at what power level the reactor is running, although it may be considerable," the North Korea watchdog said.

Trump Signs Order for ‘Great Rebuilding’ of US Military

During his first post-inauguration visit to the Pentagon, President Trump today signed an executive order for what he described as the start of a “great rebuilding of the Armed Forces,” seeking to increase the size of the US military, which already spends roughly as much as the eight next largest militaries in the world.

Trump promised the plan would include new warplanes, new ships, new resources, and in increase in the number of special forces. The order calls for the Pentagon and Office of Management and Budget to work jointly on increasing military spending in the next fiscal year, and in ways that will give the Pentagon chief more flexibility on spending.

TRUMP HAS OPPORTUNITY TO END OBAMA/CLINTON WEAPONS SALES TO ANTI-WOMAN TYRANTS

I attended the women’s rights rally in Portland, Oregon, today to support women worldwide and urge Trump to end Obama and Hillary Clinton’s record weapons deals with the most repressive state for women in the world, the totalitarian dictatorship of Saudi Arabia.

In 2010, the Clinton state department organized the biggest weapons sale in US history. The sale was to strongman Abdullah Abdullaziz, who had women executed as punishment for being raped. The Kerry state department followed the deal with a sale of almost a billion dollars worth of illegal cluster bombs to the dictator. Obama approved both deals.

Bloomberg reports Clinton’s weapons sales to woman-oppressing dictators increased dramatically after the tyrants ‘donated’ to what Harper’s magazine calls the Clintons’ ‘slush fund’, the Clinton Foundation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What a splendid idea; stop selling weapons to countries which oppress women, brilliant!

Unfortunately, however, these marches are really not about "women's issues" they are a pitiful attempt to delegitimize Trump by any means necessary.

Russian expert calls Trump’s statement on nuclear disarmament impromptu

According to Arbatov, Trump’s statement on disarmament "was an impromptu" one. "By the way, the new US administration does not know much about disarmament. "The future of the disarmament actually depends on Russia because no one in the incoming US administration is an expert in this sphere, moreover, they have never dealt with it. Russia can seize the initiative in the disarmament issues. This is one of the most important fields as far as our security is concerned. If Russia wishes, it can have a chance to put forward a package of realistic proposals on all issues which have remained ‘a bone of contention’ in Russian-US relations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am sure we all agree the world would be safer without these city-destroying weapons hanging over all of us like the sword of Damocles. However, after years of Russia bashing by US warhawks and the NATO buildup on the borders, tensions with Russia will not be switched off overnight.

While Russia understands that Trump is pro-peace-through-commerce, the President is still surrounded by a government full of "old guard" cold-war fossils who still dream of a global American empire, and Russia is probably looking at a phased stand down of the current tensions before talk of strategic weapons reductions can begin.

America’s scary new secret weapon could cripple an entire enemy city without any physical damage

HEAVY explosions and damaging gunfire are no longer the answer to modern warfare, with the armed forces developing a new weapon capable of crippling an entire enemy city.

The US Army is currently working on a non-explosive electromagnetic pulse artillery shell, which would be capable of rendering a wide range of electronics, critical infrastructure, and computer-based systems as useless.
A new army research proposal has detailed how America’s next secret weapon may be deployed.

“[This weapon] provides an alternative attack vector for the neutralisation of an adversary's underlying industrial, civil, and communications infrastructure without the destruction of the hardware associated with those systems,” the proposal read.
The army has a three phase plan for the development and deployment of the electronic warfare weapon.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I surely wish this government would be putting as much money, and skull sweat, into resolving its geopolitical issues through negotiations as it is in weapons development!!

Israel deploys 'Star Wars' missile killer system

Israel's upgraded ballistic missile shield became operational on Wednesday, in a "Star Wars"-like extension of its capabilities to outer space where incoming missiles can be safely destroyed.

The Defence Ministry said the U.S.-funded Arrow 3 system, jointly developed by state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries and U.S. firm Boeing Co. , was handed over the Israeli Air Force.

The Arrow 3, together with the Arrow 2, which has been operational since 2000, would "significantly reduce the possibilities of ballistic missiles" hitting Israel, the ministry said in a statement.

The Arrow 2 is designed to intercept projectiles high and low within the atmosphere. Arrow 3 missiles will fly into space, where their warheads detach to become "kamikaze" satellites that track and slam into their targets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A little logic here; why in heaven's name, would Iran attack Israel, understanding full well that such an attack would result in Iran's becoming a large puddle of molten glass from the US/Israeli counterstrike?!?

The short answer is, they wouldn't.

Descending on the Capital: “Inauguration Chaos, Protests And Checkpoints” Begin

As millions of people flock to D.C. to witness or take part in the inauguration of Donald J. Trump, many thousands of protesters will be denouncing the president-elect, and doing their damnedest to undermine his presidency before it starts.

A group known as #DisruptJ20, the most active in the day of disruption, have called for those opposed to Trump to join their “bold mobilization” in Washington, DC, described as an attempt to “shut down the Inauguration ceremonies and any related celebrations.”

A Likely Way that Trump Would Be Forced Out of Office

It is clear, from the overwhelming opposition to Donald Trump’s taking office on January 20th as the U.S. President, opposition on the part of the entire U.S. Establishment — the aristocrats and their agents in the government and media and think tanks — that any opportunity to replace Trump with the Democratic Party’s Establishment Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, or any other Establishmentarian, would be welcomed by the Establishment.

Trump has appointed, as being far over a majority of the principal officers of the executive departments — i.e., majority of his 15-person Cabinet — Establishment Republicans, who favor continuation of the Cold War against Russia.

But now, could come the tactic that actually has the highest likelihood of succeeding, and it would replace Trump with his own Establishment Republican Vice President, Mike Pence. Here’s how it would work:

Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution asserts:

F-35 in crisis as Pentagon tests find 276 different faults in $400bn jet's combat system and warn full tests might not even begin until 2019

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has been hailed as the 'most expensive weapon in history', costing $400bn.

It has been plagued with delays, prompting Donald Trump to describe it as 'out of control' and demanding a price cut from Lockheed Martin.

Now, a new Pentagon report has warned the jet still has hundreds of faults - and won't be ready to even begin full combat testing until 2019.

The crucial 'Initial Operational Test and Evaluation' tests were scheduled for August.
The deadline represents the latest in a series of pushed-back delivery milestones.

'The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program Office (JPO) acknowledged in 2016 that schedule pressure exists for completing System Development and Demonstration (SDD) and starting Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) by August 2017, the planned date in JPO's Integrated Master Schedule,' the report says.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Elect Trump should do more than demand a price cut from Lockheed-Martin on this absolutely fluster-clucked fighter jet; there should be a clause in every defense contract issued by the US government, that when time and costs spiral out of control, that the executives themselves are looking at hard jail time, for non-deliverance.

Yes, this is, admittedly, a draconian approach; that being said, however, I would almost bet that this will go a long way toward curing the problem.

Moscow Cautiously Reacts to Trump's Idea on Lifting Anti-Russian Sanctions

Trump is trying to use Obama's sanctions as a stick to get the Russians to sign an arms deal. Wont work. The Russians consider the sanctions undeserved and an insult to Russia as a whole. The Donald ain't so smart!

Russian officials commented on the proposal of US President-elect Donald Trump to lift sanctions against Russia in exchange for a bilateral agreement on the reduction of the nuclear arsenal, saying that Moscow is currently not considering the possibility of reducing its nuclear arsenal in exchange for a sanctions deal.

In interview with newspapers Das Bild and The Times, Trump suggested that the sanctions against Russia could be lifted if both countries sign a nuclear disarmament agreement. However, the proposal caused a cautious reaction in Moscow.

Can the great war be prevented …

The sheer size of the exercise and the chosen region might already be interpreted as a clear warning to the West not to lay undue strain on the question of the “annexation of the Crimea” and not to test the patience of Russia in the Donbass area unduly. At the same time, we are informed that a coastal defence is to be constructed on the outermost eastern tip of Russia by 2018. One week before the start of the “Caucasus 2016” exercise, the Russian defence minister Shoigu confirmed the plans for the establishment of a special troop unit in the Chukotka region. The decision to do so was made in 2015 and is “part of a plan for the establishment of a unified system of coastal defence from the Arctic in the north to the Premorja territory in the south”. This is intended to secure the Kuriles and the Bering Sea as well as cover the routes of the fleets in the Pacific, and thus also to increase the combat power of Russia’s nuclear-strategic naval forces.

China expert: Tillerson's plan for the South China Sea would 'certainly end up in a shooting war with China' Business Insider

(Kevin Lamarque/Reuters)
President-elect Donald Trump's secretary of state nominee, Rex Tillerson, made waves internationally on Thursday by suggesting that the US should "send China a clear signal that, first, the island-building stops, and second, your access to those islands also is not going to be allowed."
Suggesting China stop its building of artificial islands and militarizing them doesn't sharply break with the policy of President Barack Obama's administration, but suggesting a blockade — or forcefully stopping China from sailing to its land features in the South China Sea — does.
China's response, at first muted, has come back strong, with Chinese media saying that "unless Washington plans to wage a large-scale war in the South China Sea, any other approaches to prevent Chinese access to the islands will be foolish."

Is Trump Already Finished? — Paul Craig Roberts

Is Trump Already Finished?

Paul Craig Roberts

It did not take long before we knew there was no hope of change from President Obama. But at least he went into his inauguration with an unprecedented number of Americans on the Mall showing their support for the President of Change. Hope was abundant.

But with Trump, we are already losing faith, if not yet with him, at least with his choice of those who comprise his government even before Trump is inaugurated.

Trump’s choice for Secretary of State not only sounds like the neoconservatives in declaring Russia to be a threat to the United States and all of Europe, but also sounds like Hillary Clinton in declaring the South China Sea to be an area of US dominance. One would think that the chaiman of Exxon was not an idiot, but I am no longer sure. In his confirmation hearing, Rex Tillerson said that China’s access to its own South China Sea is “not going to be allowed.”

CONGRESSWOMAN SAYS US GOVERNMENT IS ARMING ISIS, INTRODUCES BILL TO STOP IT

Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has broken free of the corporate media’s narrative by accusing the United States of funding and arming terror groups al-Qaeda and ISIS.

“If you or I gave money, weapons or support to al-Qaeda or ISIS, we would be thrown in jail,” Gabbard tweeted on Saturday.

Most importantly, however, is her introduction of the “Stop Arming Terrorists Act,” which she presented last Thursday. In her presentation of the bill, Gabbard cited prominent publications such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal to show that the rebels the U.S. is supporting in Syria are aligned with al-Nusra (which is essentially al-Qaeda in Syria).

Trump to Keep Russia Sanctions ‘for Now’

Trump thinks he can get Putin to do good things for us by holding the sanctions over the man's head. This is Trump's first really big mistake. Trump just wrecked ANY chance for better relations with Russia! Trump is a Chump!

In particularly with respect to Russia, he appeared to be backing away from previous talks of quick normalization of ties.

US-NATO ‘Buildup on Russian Border Could Lead to Nuclear War’ – Nobel Laureate

On Thursday, US Secretary of Defense nominee James Mattis told a Senate committee in confirmation hearings that NATO must build capacity in eastern Europe to deter Russia’s alleged aggression. This came a day after Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson testified that the United States would defend NATO member states if Russia invaded.

“There is little or no evidence that Russia is being aggressive towards the NATO countries,” Caldicott, co-winner of the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize, told Sputnik. “That is a lie that the United States insists on maintaining.”

Caldicott pointed out, however, that it was the United States and NATO, not Russia, that was building up its armed forces to unprecedented levels in central and eastern Europe and exacerbating tensions in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Caldicott to whom this article refers, is Dr. Helen Caldicott, the founder of the organisation "Physicians for Social Responsibility",and a woman for whom I have the highest respect.

Coupled with NATO's and the US's encirclement of Russia, with troops and materials pouring on to Russia's border, I have that nasty taste in my mouth, indicating that we are getting psychologically "prepped" for a huge false flag to be blamed on Russia, and off we go to World War 3.

Oh, and if you haven't picked up on it, several American and NATO Generals gave a news conference today, and this was what they said:

The US is ready for war against Russia in Europe!!

Just thought you should know, as we are being distracted by various US agencies who are investigating the activities of other agencies regarding the investigations of the Clinton email scandal.

Just like right before we were misdirected ("Conditized") with all the focus on the terrible death of Chandra Levy, a Congressional aide to Gary Condit right before 9/11, we are now getting "Clintonized" to distract our attention from a coming war with Russia.

Folks, something wicked this way comes; please pay attention to what is going on out there.

No More Holiday Gifts for Repressive Regimes

While the world has been transfixed on the epic tragedy in Syria, another tragedy – a hidden one – has been consuming the children of Yemen.

Battered by the twin evils of war and hunger, every 10 minutes a child in Yemen dies from malnutrition, diarrhea, or respiratory-tract infections, UNICEF reports. And without immediate medical attention, over 400,000 kids suffering from severe acute malnutrition could die, too.

Why are so many of Yemen’s children going hungry and dying?

Since 2014, Yemen has been wracked by a civil war – a war that’s been exacerbated by intervention from Saudi Arabia, a U.S. ally. Since 2015, the Saudis have been pounding this nation, the poorest in the Middle East, with cluster bombs and explosives.

And the US has been helping, selling the Saudis advanced weapons and providing intelligence and logistical support.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I didn't think, when I was a kid growing up, that I would ever consider the government of my country complicit in war crimes; unfortunately, it is a well-documented reality right now. Obama’s drone war is a black mark on his legacy that cannot be ignored

President Obama’s last weeks in office have been marked by a series of exit interviews, conversations that are often as inherently fascinating as any discussion with a man soon to quit the most powerful job on the globe must be.

In one such interview, a thought-provoking piece from The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates, Obama raised the issue of drone warfare, which has become a signature policy of his administration:

“The truth is that this technology really began to take off right at the beginning of my presidency. And it wasn’t until about a year, year and a half in where I began to realize that the Pentagon and our national-security apparatus and the CIA were all getting too comfortable with the technology as a tool to fight terrorism, and not being mindful enough about how that technology is being used and the dangers of a form of warfare that is so detached from what is actually happening on the ground.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Extrajudicial assassinations cannot be tolerated or "normalized" by any civilized country, as a way to wage warfare, while simultaneously priding itself on being a country which is governed by the rule of law.

The two, rule of law, and extrajudicial assassinations, are mutually, and morally exclusive.

President Obama, of course, just doesn't want to see this, and has "lawyered up" with people who have been ordered to give him "legal cover" for these assassinations but what I am saying is the absolute, honest, if uncomfortable truth.

And in terms of practical effect, the consequences are that people who have their children, wives, moms, aunties and grandparents, murdered in this way, are going to find jihad against western assets and elements very attractive.

In fact, sometimes, I have to wonder if these extrajudicial assassinations are actually done simply to keep military conflicts in which the US military is enmeshed around the world, continuing and expanding, keeping the military-industrial complex happy.

U.S. was No. 1 worldwide in weapons sales in 2015 at $40B

The United States sold $40.2 billion worth of weapons in 2015 -- by far the most in the world, according to a new congressional study.

The figure represents 31 percent of all arms sales globally. France was far behind in second place at $15.2 billion, according to the "Conventional Arms Transfers to Developing Nations, 2008-2015," by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, a division of the Library of Congress.

The largest purchasers were developing nations at $65.2 billion -- 81.7 percent of the total $79.9 billion. Qatar's deals were worth $17.5 billion, and Egypt followed with $11.9 billion in arms and Saudi Arabia at $8.6 billion. Next were South Korea, Pakistan, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq.

The top arms sellers increased their sales in 2015. U.S. weapons sales increased by around $4 billion and France's deals increased by well over $9 billion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I find this set of statistics deliciously ironic, in light of the fact that the President of the United States, President Obama, is a Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

I would strongly suggest that some who were on the Nobel Peace Prize Commission which originally nominated him who may now be calling for that award to President Obama to be rescinded, looking at all the bloody wars in which the US has been complicit, under his watch.

Incredible moment USA came within 30 SECONDS of launching NUCLEAR strike on Russia

Secret documents have revealed more than 1,000 accidents involving nuclear weapon by bungling American servicemen - including fires, explosions and accidentally dropped bombs that nearly cost hundreds of millions of lives in the Seventies and Eighties.

During the close-call in 1979, defence chiefs at the North American Aerospace Defence Command in Colorado were told of a major, imminent attack by Soviet forces.

Computer screens at the top-secret base filled with images showing the early stages of an attack, and they prepared to retaliate.

It was only after a thorough investigation and a check of the back-up radar that a revenge strike was called off at the last minute.

Made-in-America Weapons, War Crimes, and the Outcry Over Yemen

As the US limits some arms sales to Saudi Arabia, human rights groups present 'overwhelming evidence' pointing back at Washington.

Yemen’s 21-month war has devastated the country and sparked a humanitarian catastrophe. The UN recorded 4,014 killed and thousands more injured by Saudi-led coalition air strikes between March 2015 and September 2016, carried out with the backing of the US and UK.

The war has displaced 2.2 million Yemenis, while an additional 180,000 have fled the country (refugees are so desperate, some are fleeing to Somalia). Yemen, already one of the poorest countries in the Middle East, was pulled into this crisis after Houthi rebels ousted President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi in early 2015. Alarmed by the Houthi rebel advances in Yemen, neighboring Saudi Arabia and its allies in the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council called for the United Nations to bring an end to the “coup” (pdf).

Webmaster's Commentary:

At this point, Saudi Arabia, The United States Government, the UK Government and (as reported at this blog yesterday) the Canadian government are neck deep in war crimes.

The House of Saud, apparently, believes that committing utterly genocidal war crimes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, killing scores of innocents n the process, is no big deal.

The Saudi military hits schools, hospitals, and open-air markets, all civilian targets, with impunity.

Their scorched earth approach to this campaign, against their brother and sister Muslims in Yemen, reminds me of what the Papal Legate, Pierre de Castelnau, said to his military in the church's persecution of French Cathars at the siege of Languedoc, upon hearing that women and children were also with the men who had taken refuge there.

And what was that infamous statement?

It was: "kill them all: God will find his own."

I don't quite know how this translates into Arabic, but you catch my drift.

However, the images I am about to share don't lie. And I will warn you: they are intensely graphic, so if you have a problem with real images of the war in Yemen, please go no further in reading this article.

And did I mention that the Saudi blockade of Yemeni ports, which means food cannot get into this country, has translated into starvation for thousands of Yemen's kids?!?

At this moment in history, my brother and sister Brits, Canadians, and Americans share more in common than our English heritage; we are all governed by administrations who are complicit in war crimes courtesy of these weapons sales, used for genocide in Yemen, to Saudi Arabia.

I don't know how it makes the rest of you feel; but right now, come January, I think that the citizens all these countries need to have a peaceful, focused dialogue with those who allegedly represent us, and let them know that these weapons sales cannot continue, because their use, in the Saudi war in Yemen, is obscenely immoral, and if they want another term in office, they will, collectively, stop this.

Canada Admits Weapons Sold to Riyadh May Have Been Used In Yemen

The Canadian government has admitted that weapons it sold to Saudi Arabia were used in Riyadh’s invasion of Yemen, even while denouncing the conflict publicly. Ottawa is being sued by Daniel Turp, a Universite de Montreal professor, alleging that Canada’s $15 billion weapons-export deal with the kingdom is assisting with its involvement in Sana’a.

In a Montreal federal court, Canada is contending that the authority to decide what constitutes a legal weapons sale lies not with the court, but with Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion. Ottawa maintains that this should be the case even if the country’s Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs) are used in a war responsible for the death of thousands of civilians.

In April, Dion admitted to pushing the Saudi weapons sale through, and told an editorial board that he acted with only one other minister and did not receive counsel from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau or other advisors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hey, Canadians; congrats for your country's government having become complicit in Saudi Arabia's genocidal war crimes in Yemen!

And just as with your corporate American brothers and sisters, it's "war profits uber alles!"

Doesn't it make you feel proud to be a Canadian?!?

The Saudi Arabian military has bombed marketplaces; schools; and hospitals with impunity, employing what may well be called a "scorched earth" approach.

It kind of reminds me of what the Catholic prelate said, during the siege of Montsegur in the campaign to exterminate the Cathars, when informed that there were women and children with the men who had taken refuge there.

And what he said was, "Kill them all; God will find his own."

And here is some of what the Canadian government's "contribution" to the Saudi war in Yemen may well have accomplished, and I warn you: these images are the most graphic you will see from this wretched generally unreported, war:

Images: Yemeni children wounded and killed by Saudi bombing

Images: Yemeni children starving to death due to the Saudi naval blockade

It is very much time for Canadian citizenry, as well as American citizenry, to have a peaceful, specific dialogue with your (alleged) representatives in Parliament or Congress, and telling them firmly that their governments have utterly no business, and no right, in partnering with countries which commit war crimes.

HOW THE MILITARY EXCLUDED THE WHITE HOUSE FROM INTERNATIONAL SYRIA NEGOTIATIONS

Russia kicked the U.S. out of any further talks about Syria after the U.S. blew a deal which, after long delaying negotiations, Kerry had made with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

In a recent interview Kerry admits that it was opposition from the Pentagon, not Moscow or Damascus, that had blown up his agreement with Russia over Syria:

More recently, he has clashed inside the administration with Defense Secretary Ashton Carter. Kerry negotiated an agreement with Russia to share joint military operations, but it fell apart.

“Unfortunately we had divisions within our own ranks that made the implementation of that extremely hard to accomplish,” Kerry said. “But I believe in it, I think it can work, could have worked."

Kerry's agreement with Russia did not just "fell apart". The Pentagon actively sabotaged it by intentionally and perfidiously attacking the Syrian army.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I seem to recall noting last June, that there seemed to be a war going on in Obama's administration between the Pentagon and the White House: this article certainly appears to confirm it.

A rogue US military is a very dangerous thing; and in this period of transition, I cannot foretell what the Pentagon, coupled with the US "deep state" has in mind, to insure that President-elect Trump has a hot war on his hands even before he takes the oath of office, as their "gift" to him.

However, in that leaked memo about Trump's defense priorities, it is very reassuring to know that Russia was not mentioned.

So a short memo to Russia's President Vladimir Putin: please hang in there until Trump assumes the Presidency of the United States.

I have a strong sense that the relationship between our two countries is about to become a lot less stressed after this happens.

IRAN IS NOT THE BIGGEST NUCLEAR CHEATER — GUESS WHO IS

If you think Iran presents the greatest danger of nuclear war today, think again.

It is none other than the United States that has consistently violated the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty—and it’s these violations that are one of the main drivers of the spread of nuclear weapons and the threat of nuclear war across the world.

While some worry about inspecting Iran’s nuclear facilities, Americans should be pushing first for inspecting something nearer to home: the embarrassing and dangerous record of nuclear treaty violations committed by the US and its fellow nuclear states.

And there’s something else that bears closer inspection: how the mainstream media’s misreporting about nuclear armaments played a key role in justifying the Iraq war and other recent conflicts.

US Press Silent as Syria Presents Evidence of US-Backed Rebels Using Mustard Gas on Civilians

***
In August, the United States tacitly admitted to supporting al-Nusra Front during an awkward press conference in which Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook evaded direct answers but hinted American forces might shoot down Russian or Syrian jets attempting to target al-Nusra fighters.

Then, the following month, al-Nusra commander Abu Al Ezz flatly told a German media outlet, “The Americans are on our side.”

Thus, U.S. support for anti-Syrian government rebels has by degrees included acceptance of the use of toxic chemical agents on civilians trapped in the morass — all because the goal of regime change has not been reconsidered.

For those unfamiliar with mustard gas, it can be horrifically harmful to humans.

BRITISH CLUSTER BOMBS USED IN SAUDI ARABIA’S YEMEN CAMPAIGN, RESEARCH FINDS

Despite strenuous denials, UK-made cluster bombs are indeed being used by Britain’s theocratic ally Saudi Arabia in its war on impoverished Yemen, according to the government’s own inquiries.

The new details have emerged through a leak to the Guardian from sources which claim that internal investigations support claims in the media that the outlawed munitions are in use.

The source said that the findings had been known by the government for up to a month.

However, the paper has also been told that Saudi Arabia – a major UK ally and one of its top arms customers – has not confirmed itself that the banned munitions are being used.

The revelations seem set to pile even more pressure on the UK to stop selling arms to the authoritarian regime.

The UK is a signatory to the 2010 treaty banning cluster munitions, which drop many tiny bomblets from the main device and can create what is in effect a minefield.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ah yes, cluster bombs: to little children, they look almost the same, and the coloration on them is identical, to that of humanitarian food packages. And when there is no adult around to tell them not to touch the bombs, they can shred curious children who touch them into almost non-recoverable bits.

images: cluster bombs and food aid packages

This is what cluster bombs have done to children in Yemen: (warning: this image is very graphic and disturbing, but needs to be shared)

Results of Saudi use of cluster bombs in Yemen

And a small memo to the UK's Prime Minister May; congratulations; the UK is now complicit in war crimes, just as are your American cousins in the US government!

I am certain you are quite proud of your arms industry, Prime Minister, and it is obvious that this illegal sale of cluster munitions made someone in the UK a killing; literally.

But hey, profits uber alles, right?!? No matter how many innocent children and non-combatants these weapons kill, that's the only thing which matters.

You and your predecessor, David Cameron, should be standing in the docks in Old Bailey for crimes against humanity here, in aiding and abetting the Saudi Government by having supplied them with these weapons; all the more so, because the UK is a signatory to the 2010 treaty, banning cluster munitions.

Unfortunately, this will only happen when pigs fly, because politically, power protects the criminals who have used it for ill purposes.

You might want to ask Bill Clinton about that, particularly with his little "runway encounter" with Loretta Lynch, to "persuade" her to not charge Hillary Clinton for having mishandled classified documents with her personal email server.

BREAKING: Syrian Government Gives Evidence of ‘Rebels’ Using Mustard Gas Against Civilians

Just when you thought things could not get any worse for the US State Dept’s dynamic trio of John Kerry, Samantha Power and John Kirby, and President Obama too – another damning piece of evidence surfaces which implicates Western and Gulf state-backed “moderate rebels” in Syria.

Documents containing evidence of chemical weapons use by ‘rebel’ terrorists have been handed over to the Technical Secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) international mission in Damascus.

The attack in question is said to have involved the use of Mustard Gas and took place near the village of Maarat Umm Hawsh village in Aleppo province back in September.

Did Satellites Expose A Secret American Drone Hangar In A Saudi Desert?

Buried deep in the heart of one of the most barren deserts in Saudi Arabia, and the entire planet for that matter, a commercial satellite happened upon what appears to be a very modern airport that suddenly appeared out of thin air from one year to the next. What makes the airport even more mysterious is the fact that there are no planes on site and no government claims ownership of the facility. So, is this airport a mere "Border Guard" facility, as Google Maps would suggest, or did this satellite just happen to reveal the location of a secret U.S. military airport used to conduct drone operations in Yemen?

And it does seem somewhat odd that such a massive airport, with 3 large hangars, would be required to conduct "border operations."

While we may never know the true owner/function of this mysterious facility, we're almost certain that Russia hackers are behind the leak of it's location.

Embarking on rare visit to Muslim countries, Netanyahu vaunts Israel’s popularity

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took off Tuesday morning for Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, pointing to his trip to the two Muslim countries as an indication that rather than being politically isolated, Israel is courted by countries around the world.

During his two-day visit, aimed at fostering security, economic, and diplomatic ties, Netanyahu will become the first sitting Israeli prime minister to visit the region in almost 25 years of diplomatic relations between Jerusalem and the former Soviet republics of Central Asia. Visits by Israeli leaders to non-Arab Muslim-majority countries are rare.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, the prime minister said the trip was a further indication of Israeli success in developing relationships with Muslim counties.

Webmaster's Commentary:

U.S. ready to confront Beijing on South China Sea: admiral

The United States is ready to confront China should it continue its overreaching maritime claims in the South China Sea, the head of the U.S. Pacific fleet said on Wednesday, comments that threaten to escalate tensions between the two global rivals.

China claims most of the resource-rich South China Sea through which about $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year. Neighbors Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also have claims.

The United States has called on China to respect the findings of the arbitration court in The Hague earlier this year which invalidated its vast territorial claims in the strategic waterway.

But Beijing continues to act in an "aggressive" manner, to which the United States stands ready to respond, Admiral Harry Harris, head of the U.S. Pacific Command, said in a speech in Sydney.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to Admiral Harris; although I am certain that these statements were crafted for your Sidney audience's consumption; however, the unfortunate unfortunately reality is that the US military is absolutely unready for even a conventional war against China, and/or Russia, because it does not have the weaponry; the money, the manufacturing, or the troop strength to do so.

Yes, China and Russia spend considerably less than does the US military for its weapons, but they get far more bang for their buck.

When weapons are deployed in the field, many times they are obsolete before delivery; do not at all function as promised, and come with huge cost over-rides; that is currently a fact of life for the US military.

Do I need to remind you of the debacle which has been the F-35, or the Navy's $480 million-per-ship littoral combat ships, which currently fall apart if you scowl at them?!?

Sir, this is absolutely not a way to run a weapons program, but I do have some suggestions for curing the problem.

With every weapon, ship, or munitions contract, if any of these are late, or do not perform as promised, that company gets fined within an inch of its financial life, and that requirement is clearly stipulated in the signed contract between the US military, and the manufacturing corporation.

And if there are problems with anything, that corporation will fix that problem at its own expense, NOT at the expense of We the People.

These actions by the US military should cause some re-thinking on the part of our defense corporations, and move them in a much better direction, and make what they produce infinitely more useable.

U.S. Continues Support For Saudi Arabia In Yemen While Halting Some Arms Sales

The United States has decided to limit military support to Saudi Arabia’s campaign in Yemen because of concerns over widespread civilian casualties and will halt a planned arms sale to the kingdom, U.S. officials told Reuters.

The United States will also revamp future training of the kingdom’s air force to focus on improving Saudi targeting practices, a persistent source of concern for Washington.

The decision reflects deep frustration within President Barack Obama’s government over Saudi Arabia’s practices in Yemen’s 20-month-old war, which has killed more than 10,000 people and sparked humanitarian crises, including chronic food shortages, in the poorest country in the Middle East.

It could also further strain ties between Washington and Riyadh in the remaining days of Obama’s administration and put the question of Saudi-U.S. relations squarely before the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to President Obama; Mr. President, in enabling the Saudi Government to buy their bombs from companies like General Dynamics, you, sir, have allowed this country's government to become complicit in Saudi war crimes in their "scorched earth" campaign in Yemen.

There is no polite way around this sir, and somewhere, in your heart of hearts, you know that this is true.

If gun manufacturers are to blame for gun crime, then the United States is responsible for the war crimes being committed in Yemen.

Saudis strike schools, hospitals, and open air market places with utter impunity; their actions in Yemen border on genocide.

(Warning: very graphic images follow)

dead and wounded Yemeni children, as a result of Saudi air strikes

Oh, and the blockade of Yemen's ports has meant that no food supplies can be delivered, which translates to children who are starving to death, slowly and painfully.

Images of Yemeni children, dying from starvation because of the Saudi blockade of Yemen's ports

When you kill or starve children to death, you take away the potential for a country's future, and it appears, even though you are a father yourself, that you are perfectly comfortable with this slaughter of Yemeni children.

That you use the starving children in Syria as "justification" to prolong that atrocity, is the rankest of hypocrisy.

But then, such an attitude, which dismisses these children as "merely collateral damage",is completely consistent with a sociopathic personality.

This military enabling of Saudi Arabia against the Houthis, rather than developing a strategy of engaging elements of both the Al Hadi government and the Houthi rebels in negotiations to end the bloodshed here, will go down as one of the worst, epic fails of your administrations, worse even than your attempt to keep the fighting in Syria going so you could "dump" your inability to regime-change Damascus on Trump.

History, sir, will not judge you kindly; and I can guarantee that it will judge you on the content of your character, and how that has been made evident by your failure to stop the wars you promised to stop; a further involvement in more wars; the embracing of the horribly immoral act of extrajudicial assassination; and your success at creating more wealth for the one percent, while leaving an economy in which 94 million American workers are not participating in the labor force.

As you strut around the country, and the world, on your "victory lap" before leaving office; please remember that the above is your "true legacy", both to Americans, and to the world.

German minister sparks outrage after REFUSING to wear hijab during Saudi Arabia visit

GERMANY’S defence minister has sparked fury in Saudi Arabia after she willingly refused to wear a hijab during an official visit to the Kingdom.

According to an Iranian newspaper, Von der Leyen said: “No woman in my delegation will be required to wear the abaya, as the right to choose one’s attire is a right shared by men and women equally.”

Shortly after her meeting with the Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al Saud, Saudis took to twitter to express their disdain for her actions.

Der Leyen wore a dark blue suit while donning the traditional ghutrah head covering.

Michael Ohnmacht, a German Embassy official, quickly tried to change the focus on the debate.

He said: “The talks between Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed and the German minister focused on ways and means to beef up Saudi German cooperation in different areas, including high-level exchanges, personally education and training, defence, mutual visits and security affairs."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The above is diplo-speak for the reality that Von der Leyen was most likely in Saudi Arabia to push weapons sales, now that Obama has denied the sales of some weapons to Saudi Arabia because of the war crimes they are committing with them in Yemen, and the reality that the Saudis funded approximately 20% of Clinton's campaign through the Foundation, and were expecting some quid pro quo, if she got elected.

Nature abhors a vacuum; that may well account for the timing of this visit.

Profits uber alles, right?!?

And please remember; back in March of this year, Germany sold choppers to Saudi Arabia.

Obama Halts Some Arms Sales To Saudi Arabia, Following Alleged "War Crimes" In Yemen

Whether it is retaliation for dumping Treasuries, blackmail to keep to OPEC production quotas, or - more likely - being implicated in war crimes for supporting a Saudi-led air campaign in Yemen that has killed thousands of civilians, President Obama has decided that after shipping billions in weapons to Saudi Arabia, Reuters reports it will halt a planned arms sale to The Kingdom.

As we detailed previously, citing government documents and the accounts of current and former officials, Reuters reveals that while the Obama administration and the Pentagon rail against Russian bombing in Syria, State Department officials have been skeptical - in private of course - of the Saudi military's ability to target Houthi militants without killing civilians and destroying "critical infrastructure" needed for Yemen to recover.

Webmaster's Commentary:

By selling the Saudis the weapons with which they are killing innocent civilians, the US government has absolutely been complicit in war crimes!!!

And don't think for one second that the Saudis didn't believe they were going to get an enormous "return" on their "investment" in Clinton's campaign!

I wonder if they are going to want their money back, now that Clinton has lost the election!! THIS...could get messy, indeed.

US Navy Refuses Pentagon Orders to Budget for Spending Cuts

With Congress having today passed the 2017 military spending bill, most of the Pentagon is hard at work preparing another massive military spending bill in 2018. That does not include the US Navy, however.

Ordered by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter to prepare a budget that incorporates $17 billion in cuts over the next five years, the Navy is outright refusing to do so, with Navy Secretary Ray Mabus declaring the cuts to be “intolerable.”

At the center of the issue is that the Pentagon wants the cuts to center on major new shipbuilding programs, while the Navy is determined to see the number of ships they are fielding at any given time grow. This eagerness for more ships has led the Navy toward programs like the Littoral Combat Ship, a small coastal ship that officials have argued is mostly useless, but does count as a ship in between its many breakdowns.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President-elect Trump has to crack down on fraud, and weapons, ships, and fighter jets which do not perform, and have to be refitted at staggering costs, when they break down.

And the contracts for these weapons systems should contain the rider that should these items fail, the contractor will be obligated to fix it at their own expense.

And if that is not enough, potentially hard jail time for the Presidents and Board members of those companies whose weapons chronically fail.

Yes, I know these measures sound quite draconian; but so help me, Hieronymus Bosch, they will cure the problem the US is having with equipment which fails consistently, and quickly.

PENTAGON’S BIZARRE FUTURE PLANS: MEGACITIES AND URBAN WARFARE

Megacities, climate change, living habitats, dysfunctional social functions and the “remaining 1% represents the threat of 100,000,” are the context of a pentagon sponsored video revealed by The Intercept. The narrator speaks of environments not yet experienced in city landscapes but that are inevitable, with the military requiring an adaptation of urban warfare and a willingness to “drain the swamp of non-combatants” to engage in a “high intensity conflict” with the remaining “adversaries” within.

“Social structures are dysfunctional,” and therefore, alternate forms of governance have taken control, according to the narrator. The military must adapt to the new ways of war and must work within these “ecosystems” with minimal disruption to the non-combatant.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have just finished watching this video; and although the footage used was from countries other than the US, I had to wonder...is the US military leadership predicting such an horrifically dark, dystopian future for the United States as well?!?

Mysterious “Thunderstorm Asthma” Now Strikes Kuwait – Hospitalizing Nearly A Thousand

Foreign Secretary: UK Supports Saudi Bombing of Yemen

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson sought to dismiss growing international criticism of British arms sales to Saudi Arabia amid a mounting number of civilians killed in Saudi airstrikes, insisting the UK remains “supportive” of Saudi Arabia and its bombing campaign.

Johnson goes on to insist that he doesn’t think Saudi Arabia has crossed “the threshold” for war crimes in the thousands of civilians killed i n Yemen airstrikes, though human rights groups appear more or less uniform in taking the opposite position, noting the Saudis appear to be deliberately attacking civilians across Yemen.

At the same time, Johnson sought to downplay the Britain’s direct involvement in the war, insisting that British forces are providing “general guidance” to the Saudis, but are not engaged in any involvement in picking specific targets for the Saudis to attack.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh, really, Foreign Secretary Johnson?!?

However much the UK's defense companies are paying you to vomit this codswallop, it cannot possibly be enough.

The US and UK are complicit in Saudi Arabia's war crimes, sir, by selling them the weapons with which civilians are assassinated; schools and hospitals are targeted; and children are slowly and painfully starving to death, courtesy of the Saudi blockade of all Yemeni port cities.

And you don't think think Saudi Arabia has crossed “the threshold” for war crimes in the thousands of civilians killed in Yemen airstrikes?!?!?

Allow me, sir, to disabuse you of that notion, and right the hell now:

Yemeni children killed and wounded in Saudi airstrikes, 2016

140 killed in a Saudi "double tap" strike at Yemeni funeral

Images: Yemeni children starving and dying, due to Saudi Arabia's bombings and naval blockade

If you are in any way a moral human being, you cannot, possibly, look at these images without a sense of disgust and disbelief; unfortunately, however, I have learned, over the years, that most politicians have their consciences surgically removed before holding office, so very possibly, you won't feel a thing, looking at these horrific images.

The numbers, in terms of civilian casualties, are right here:

As of September 2nd of this year, there have been 10,000 civilian casualties

There are also numbers on childhood malnutrition, via Voice of America:

320,000 children at risk of severe acute malnutrition.

How in the name of sanity can you possibly tell your brother and sister Brits, and the world, for that matter, with a straight face, that these numbers do not cross the "threshold" for war crimes?!?

So, congratulations are in order; you really "sold" this Saudi genocide of the Yemeni people to the British government, and I am sure that the British defense companies who fund you, overtly or covertly, are just delighted with you.

Because after all, in the UK, just as in the US, it's "profits uber alles", right?!? And we can't let a little thing like "war crimes" get in the way of profits, now, can we?!?

And by the way, how does it feel to be a war criminal, Foreign Secretary Johnson?!?

House Passes Massive $611 Billion New Military Spending Bill

In an overwhelming 375-34 vote, the House of Representatives today passed a massive $611 new military spending bill. Though presented as the National Defense Authorization Act for 2017, the bill is only a portion of what the US will ultimately spend on the military in fiscal 2017.

The bill includes bans on any closure of any military bases by the Pentagon, once again rejecting calls by the military leadership to get rid of costly, unwanted bases, and also forbids the closure of the detention center at Guantanamo Bay. It also forbids the Pentagon from going through with a plan to reduce the number of active duty soldiers,

Webmaster's Commentary:

Perhaps it is quixotic in the extreme, but I yearn for a day when the US government finally figures out how to resolve its geopolitical differences through hard-won, ethical negotiations, rather than through war.

Congress authorizes Trump to arm Syrian rebels with anti-aircraft missiles

The House voted for the first time today to explicitly authorize the incoming Donald Trump administration to arm vetted Syrian rebels with anti-aircraft missiles.

While the language in the annual defense bill also creates restrictions on the provision of the controversial weapons, it represents a win for Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., a fervent advocate of helping the rebels resist President Bashar al-Assad and his Russian and Iranian allies. The Senate is expected to pass the bill next week.

Until now, the transfer of man-portable air-defense systems, or MANPADs, had been implicitly authorized in the absence of an outright ban. Critics, however, view the new provision as tantamount to a policy recommendation for the president-elect.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If Trump is as smart as I think he is, he will veto this deal, and work with Russia to end this war, as quickly as possible.

I would like to politely point out to Senator McCain that continuing to do the same this, over and over (as in, sending weapons to allegedly "vetted, moderate" Rebels"), yet expecting a different outcome (their getting their collective backsides whipped by the Russians an Syrians) is a classic definition of insanity.

North Korea rejects U.N. resolution, vows stronger self-defense measures: KCNA

North Korea's foreign ministry said on Thursday it rejects the latest U.N. Security Council resolution imposing fresh sanctions against the country for its September nuclear test, saying it denied its sovereignty and right to survival.

The North's foreign ministry said in a statement that the country will be taking stronger self-defense measures in response to the resolution, the country's KCNA state news agency said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congrats, UN, for creating sanctions which are pushing North Korea into the polar opposite direction from where you say you want them to go!! Smooth move, there, folks!

What the UN, South Korea, Japan, China and US SHOULD be doing, at this juncture, is getting Kim Jung-Un and North Korea back to the negotiating table, and presenting a peace treaty to replace the existing armistice, which guarantees freedom of trade in exchange for North Korea stopping their nuclear weapons program, and becoming a signatory to the NNPT.

Unfortunately, however, it appears that this solution is....logical.

And I have learned, very painfully, that logic and the geopolitical process, are frequently mutually exclusive.

And, should North Korea accept such terms and conditions, it cannot be used as a "justification" for a US government's "back door war" against China.

EU Plans Big Military Spending Increase

The European Union today unveiled their “European Defense Action Plan,” which aims at a major military spending increase alliance-wide, with some $5.8 billion a year being set aside to acquire more weaponry, including attack helicopters and drones.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker argues that the spending is needed to ensure that Europe’s military industrial base remains “competitive” enough to give them strategic autonomy. Alliance-wide, the EU member nations spend over $210 billion on their military every year.

A lot of the effort seems focused not on building or buying equipment anyone actually wants, but rather in ensuring that EU-based companies have the capability of doing so, and funding research into more future weapons that they will also buy, but not actually want.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me for being a tad confused here, but... against what countries does EU President Junker believe he will be fighting with this EU Army?!?

Russia?!? Russia wants trade.

China?!? China wants trade.

Or, perhaps, is this EU Army being created to put down uppity nation-states who ultimately want out, because membership in the EU is not benefiting their citizens economically at all?

Syrian Rebels Show Off New Anti-Aircraft Missiles

After months of the US assisting weapons smuggling to rebels in Syria but also trying to keep anti-aircraft missiles out of the country, the US-backed rebels in the south, including Ansar al-Islam forces have issued a video of their fighters parading around with anti-aircraft weapons.

The weapons shown in the video were 9k32 Strela-2 missiles, a Soviet design from the late 1960s which remains a popular shoulder-mounted anti-aircraft missile across the world. It is unclear where the rebels got them, but they claimed to have a “good number” of them.

Saudi Arabia has been keen to get anti-aircraft missiles into the hands of rebels for years, but had so far been blocked by the US. It is possible they were finally able to do so, and while the Saudis aren’t themselves users of that particular design of missiles, they are common enough on the export market.

The U.S. Remains Deeply Complicit in the War on Yemen

The atrocious U.S.-backed war on Yemen hasn’t ended. The New York Times reports on the use of U.S. weapons sold to the Saudi-led coalition to attack critical infrastructure and purely civilian targets:

But instead of defeating the rebels, the campaign has sunk into a grinding stalemate, systematically obliterating Yemen’s already bare-bones economy. The coalition has destroyed a wide variety of civilian targets that critics say have no clear link to the rebels.

It has hit hospitals and schools. It has destroyed bridges, power stations, poultry farms, a key seaport and factories that produce yogurt, tea, tissues, ceramics, Coca-Cola and potato chips. It has bombed weddings and a funeral.

The bombing campaign has exacerbated a humanitarian crisis in the Arab world’s poorest country, where cholera is spreading, millions of people are struggling to get enough food, and malnourished babies are overwhelming hospitals, according to the United Nations.

With serious observers of this past year's increasing tensions between US and Russia openly worrying about a nuclear war breaking out, with some 300,000 NATO troops placed on Russia's border, with sanctions hurting average businesspersons on both sides, a normal person might look at the slight thaw in Cold War 2.0 as an early positive indicator of the end of the Obama Era.

Saudis Deliberately Targeting Civilian Infrastructure in Yemen War

Since the March 2015 Saudi invasion of Yemen, Saudi-coalition airstrikes have killed a preposterous number of civilian bystanders, and repeatedly hit places like schools and hospitals across the country. While the Saudis are forever downplaying such incidents, the reality of the Saudi air war is becoming increasingly apparent. It is a war not against the Shi’ite Houthi movement, but against Yemen’s population and economy.

Even sources like the New York Times are starting to take notice that this is less an anti-rebel campaign and instead a war of systematically obliterating Yemen’s already bare-bones economy, targeting anything and everything and claiming “suspicion” if asked about it.

Indeed, as much attention as blowing up a hospital gets, in many cases the more harmful strikes are against places like food processors and basic industries, whose destruction exacerbates chronic food shortages in the nation and ensures that any post-war reconstruction will be arduously slow.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to politely point out that what the NYT is just beginning to wrap its collective editorial head around, WRH has been covering, in terms of these war crimes, almost from the inception of this US government enabled Saudi attack against Yemen.

And apparently, our President, Barack Obama, a father himself, thinks that this horrific suffering, on the part of Yemen's kids, is a perfectly logical outcome of the Saudi attack against Yemen.

Would someone from the Nobel Prize Nominating Committee in Oslo, who has the "gonadal tissue" to do so, please rescind Obama's Nobel Peace Prize for allowing this to have happened?!?

Thank you very much.

NATO Panics As Putin Urges Trump To Force Alliance Withdrawal From Russian Border

While many in the media have speculated that the Kremlin had a hand in Wikileaks' procurement of hacked Podesta emails - something Julian Assange denied last week - and US intelligence services officially accused Russian government-supported hackers of interfering with the US election (providing zero proof for the allegation), the truth is that Vladimir Putin is delighted with the outcome from the US elections: not so much for Hillary's loss as that the sharp, neo-con wing in the Pentagon has been muted for the next four years.

Neocons Trying to Sneak Into Trump Administration

It’s a cliche to say that the cushiest positions of influence in any US administration go to figures who were seen to have brought something to the table during the campaign. Yet with the election of Donald Trump, a lot of high-ranking neoconservatives are expecting the exact opposite, figuring that they can step right into positions of power and influence despite openly campaigning against Trump.

Russian Navy will hit ISIS targets in Aleppo with cruise missiles within 24 hours as Putin moves to strike while US focusses on Presidential election

The Russian navy is planning a massive attack on Aleppo within the next 24 hours, according to a Ministry of Defence source.
A group of ships including an aircraft carrier, a nuclear power guided missile cruiser and two destroyers is reportedly ready to strike from the Mediterranean Sea.
But the Russian source insisted the missiles will aim for areas surrounding Aleppo to avoid harming the 200,000 civilians still living there.

The source added that the details of the strike are still being finalised as they navy zeros in on exact targets around the Syrian city.
The strikes could apparently include Kalibr cruise missiles, launched from a submarine.

It comes on the day of the US election, after American officials have condemned Russia's bombing campaign in Syria.

Secretary of state John Kerry has called on Russia, which supports dictator Bashar-al-Assad against rebel groups, to stop bombing civilians in what he described as the 'largest of humanitarian disasters'.

Defense Secretary: US ‘Can’t Wait Any Longer’ to Buy New Nukes: Says US Needs to Make Up for 'Decades of Under-investment'

Defense Secretary Ash Carter, delivering a speech at Strategic Command headquarters, has ratcheted up ongoing Pentagon calls for massive spending increases, particularly on the creation of new modern nuclear weapons, claiming the current arsenal is becoming “antiquated.”

Carter rattled off a list of potential nuclear “foes,” including Russia, China, North Korea, India, Pakistan, and Iran, insisting that while the US had “under-invested” in nuclear arms all those nations “consistently invested” in such weapons.

The Pentagon has been talking up this modernization scheme for years, and the estimated price tag has continued to rise precipitously throughout, with the plan likely to be well in excess of $1 trillion when all is said and done. Carter, like other Pentagon officials, mostly ignored the cost in his comments, insisting the program is vital.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported in thenation.com one year ago last September:

Start with this simple fact: the production, maintenance, and modernization of nuclear weapons are sources of super profits for what is, in essence, a cartel. They, of course, encounter no competition for contracts from offshore competitors, given that it’s the US nuclear arsenal we’re talking about, and the government contracts offered are screened from critical auditing under the guise of national security. Furthermore, the business model employed is “cost-plus,” which means that no matter how high cost overruns may be compared to original bids, contractors receive a guaranteed profit percentage above their costs. High profits are effectively guaranteed, no matter how inefficient or over-budget the project may become. In other words, there is no possibility of contractors losing money on their work, no matter how inefficient they may be (a far cry from a corporate free-market model of production). Those well-protected profits and the firms raking them in have become a major factor in the promotion of nuclear weapons development, undermining any efforts at nuclear disarmament of almost any sort. Part of this process should be familiar indeed, since it’s an extension of a classic Pentagon formula that Columbia University industrial economist Seymour Melman once described so strikingly in his books and articles, a formula that infamously produced $436 hammers and $6,322 coffee makers. Given the process and the profits, the weapons contractors have a vested interest in ensuring that the American public has a heightened sense of danger and insecurity (even as they themselves have become a leading source of such danger and insecurity). Recently, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) produced a striking report, “Don’t Bank on the Bomb,” documenting the major corporate contractors and their investors who will reap those mega-profits from the coming nuclear weapons upgrades. Given the penumbra of national security that envelops the country’s nuclear weapons programs, authentic audits of the contracts of these companies are not available to the public. However, at least the major corporations profiting from nuclear weapons contracts can now be identified. In the area of nuclear delivery systems—bombers, missiles, and submarines—these include a series of familiar corporate names: Boeing, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, GenCorp Aerojet, Huntington Ingalls, and Lockheed Martin. In other areas like nuclear design and production, the names at the top of the list will be less well known: Babcock & Wilcox, Bechtel, Honeywell International, and URS Corporation. When it comes to nuclear weapons testing and maintenance, contractors include Aecom, Flour, Jacobs Engineering, and SAIC; missile targeting and guidance firms include Alliant Techsystems and Rockwell Collins. To give a small sampling of the contracts: In 2014, Babcock & Wilcox was awarded $76.8 million for work on upgrading the Ohio class submarines. In January 2013, General Dynamics Electric Boat Division was awarded a $4.6 billion contract to design and develop a next-generation strategic deterrent submarine. More of what is known of such corporate weapons contracts can be found in the ICAN Report, which also identified banks and other financial institutions investing in the nuclear weapons corporations. Many Americans are unaware that much of the responsibility for nuclear weapons development, production, and maintenance lies not with the Pentagon but the Department of Energy (DOE), which spends more on nuclear weapons than it does on developing sustainable energy sources.

The process, as it stands now, for American nuclear weapons procurement, is dangerous for our men and women in uniform, because there is no real oversight, on either quality, or costs.

And if the US government had any clue as to the power of true, honest diplomacy, these weapons would never be used, period, end of discussion.
