Afghanistan will need support from the West for up to 15 years, President Hamid Karzai warned Thursday ahead of a major international conference on his strife-torn country in London.
Translation: this will give Karzai and his cronies enough time and money to get their nest eggs in order, and leave on the lam to enjoy a quiet life in some far off shangri-la.
Meanwhile, the poorest of the poor in Afghanistan will most probably get nothing from Western aid money, and life will go on without any substantive improvement in their lives.
And the Taliban, come to the conference table?!? They don't have to!
We're barely able to hold on to Kabul, and the Taliban has developed parallel governmental structures to that of Karzai's government, and they are actually working.
