The Franklin Scandal

Webmaster's Commentary:

On one thing I will agree with the Catholics. Child sexual abuse is not confined to religion, but seems to be an epiphenomenon linked to every part of society that involves great wealth and power over others. Power attracts the very sort of people who should never have it, and perhaps that sort inevitably includes those who see children as fodder for their personal sexual sicknesses. Right there is a good reason to abandon large national and global governments and return to the states as the dominant mode of social organization.

But the anger with the church is not just over the child sexual abuse but at the exposure that the church that claimed to be a moral light to the world and the direct line to the ruler of the universe is just a bunch of dirty old con-men steeped in 2000 years of blood and semen.

"What profit has not that fable of Christ brought us!"
Pope Leo X (As attributed by John Bale, Bishop of Ossory, in The Pageant of Popes, p. 179, 1574)
