National Security Advisor Suspects Canadian Politicians Are Under Foreign Control

Canada's National Security Advisor, Richard Fadden, has confirmed that various Canadian government officials are suspected of working under foreign influence. Large-scale military training exercise underway in Alberta – Canadian, U.S. and British personnel involved

Approximately 6,750 military personnel from the Canadian Army, the Royal Canadian Air Force, the United States and the United Kingdom are taking part in the largest Canadian Army exercise of the year at the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre at Wainwright, Alberta, until May 23, the Canadian military announced today.

Freak Cold Snap Destroys Millions of Seedlings for BC Reforestation

Provincial reforestation efforts will be delayed in southern B.C. this spring after more than 2 million seedlings were severely damaged by unpredictable weather.

According to government officials, approximately 2.5 million trees that were to be planted in the area were severely damaged by polar winds. That number represents about five per cent of the 50 million seedlings scheduled to be planted this spring by the B.C. government.

Supreme Court won’t hear appeal of group seeking to sue Ottawa over CWB

The Supreme Court of Canada said it will not hear an appeal from a farm group that wants to sue the federal government for billions of dollars over the Canadian Wheat Board. Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board filed a class-action lawsuit in 2012 over legislation that removed the marketing agency’s monopoly on western wheat and barley sales.

It sought leave to appeal after a lower court struck down the main parts of the class-action.

Canadian Wheat Board to be sold to Saudi-owned Global Grain Group

The federal government is privatizing the Canadian Wheat Board with a sale to a Saudi-owned company.

G3 Global Grain Group will get 50.1 per cent of the company in exchange for an investment of $250 million. The other 49.9 per cent will be kept in trust for farmers who deliver grain to the board.

Any farmer who does deliver will get $5 per tonne in equity in the organization. In seven years, G3 Global Grain Group has the option to buy back the shares from farmers at market value.

Bathurst shooting victim's widow will get names of officers involved

Annick Basque filed a motion with the Court of Queen's Bench on Feb. 12 over the death of Michel Vienneau, 51, of Tracadie-Sheila, and her arrest and detention immediately following the Jan. 12 shooting.

Vienneau was fatally shot by police outside the Bathurst Via Rail station, just after Basque says they were returning from watching a hockey game in Montreal.

Website calling for corporate tax increases deemed unfit by Alberta election laws

In a press release the Alberta Federation of Labour wrote that the campaign website gave Albertans the opportunity to "explore the various ways in which the provincial government has destroyed the revenue system, and given away billions of dollars to big corporations and to very wealthy individuals."

Or at least, that's what the website was intended to do, before it was shut down.

Since the election was officially announced on Tuesday, April 7, the website has been deemed to be in violation of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act (EFCDA), which regulates third-party spending during elections.

The Alberta Federation of Labour, which maintains the website, is not allowed to register as a third-party advertiser under these rules.

B.C. moves to eliminate court trials for traffic violations

The B.C. government is shifting traffic violations out of court in a move lawyers fear strips motorists of constitutional rights.

The Liberals are implementing amendments passed with no fanfare in 2012 to establish a new process for handling offences under the Motor Vehicle Act, similar to the paradigm shift made dealing with drunk drivers in 2010 when most impaired charges and trials were eliminated with a heavy-handed Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) regime.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Safety confirmed Tuesday that a two-stage rollout is planned to shift MVA violations from the criminal system.

Canadian jets conduct first operation in Syria

The aerial attack was conducted by two Canadian CF-18 Hornet fighter jets, with precision guided munitions. The target was said to be a former Syrian military installation near Raqqa, which lies 440 kilometers (273 miles) northeast of the Syrian capital, Damascus, and which had been taken over by ISIL extremists.

A total of 10 coalition aircraft, including six from the United States, were involved in the strike, according to Canada’s Department of National Defense.

“The CAF’s first airstrike against ISIL in Syria has been successfully completed,” Canada’s Chief of the Defense Staff General Tom Lawson said.

In 2008, Mr. Pinchuk made a five-year, $29 million commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative, a wing of the foundation that coordinates charitable projects and funding for them but doesn’t handle the money. The pledge was to fund a program to train future Ukrainian leaders and professionals “to modernize Ukraine,” according to the Clinton Foundation.

It said that if Mr. Pinchuk was lobbying the State Department about Ukraine, “this cannot be seen as anything but a good thing.”
